The news is official, Stevie Nicks' "24 Karat Gold--Songs From The Vault" will be released in conjunction with the Fleetwood Mac Tour "On With The Show".

QUESTION: Do you think Fleetwood Mac will be performing songs from Stevie's NEW SOLO ALBUM in the set list? If not, why? If so, HOW MANY tracks from "24 Karat Gold" will The Mac perform? Does this mean that Stevie's signature solo standard "Stand Back" will be dropped from the Mac set list to make room for "24 Karat" songs? What are you thoughts, Ledgies?;)

If she replaces Stand Back with a new song then yes, absolutely. (I love SB) The reason why they are even touring is because of her. She had this project planned for song time. She changed her plans to suit the band because Christine unexpectedly rejoined (I'm very happy about that). So hey it's give and take. She should also introduce a new song * briefly* not a 10 minute rant like she did with that horrible new old song last year. The best part about the song was her rant.
Besides, Lindsey has mentioned his solo career and played solo songs with the band.

I sincerely do hope Stand Back is dropped, even though it is a good song to have in the setlist since it's high energy. Solo songs just don't belong in Fleetwood Mac. That includes songs from Stevie's 24k Gold album, and as much as I hate it, Lindsey's acoustic Go Insane. The Mac has such a tremendous back catalog. Pull out some lesser know tracks, or some of the freshly recorded MAC songs instead of solo works.

24 Karat Gold songs at a Fleetwood mac concert??? I say yes...
Fleetwood Mac WILL be promoting 24 Karat Gold (Songs From The Vault) in one way or another weather they like it or not...Why??? Because the boys knew Stevie would be making a record in 2014 before they decided on Christine returning to FM not to mention the fact that Stevie moved Heaven and earth to have 24 Karat done in time for FM rehearsals she easily could have told FM we can tour after I'm done with my solo project and tour which probably would have happened in 2015 if Stevie had not been rushed because Christine decided she wanted back in the band...It seems only fair that FM help promote "24 K" since they infringed on her plans and Stevie went way out of her way so this fall FM tour could happen...I know a lot of "Non-Stevie" FM fans are not crazy about this but look at it this way if FM stands behind Stevie in terms of promotion for "24K" and sales are good combine that with CM's return they could generate a lot of interest in the band for 2015...

Exactly...If Stevie just laid back the way John does between FM tours (No solo anything ) no guest appearances, no interviews where would the band be???

So given the circumstances a few 24K songs are allowed...

Perhaps one song from her new album will be included in the set. Fleetwood Mac is not promoting her album, nor should they be expected to - Stevie would just be taking the opportunity to promote her album.

I agree with that in part. As you say, they should take stock and mine their own catalog of songs, especially songs never performed before. I thin it's kind of cool if they add a solo song from Lindsey, Stevie or Christine every once in a while, just don't make it a staple song like Stand Back has become. Pick songs that are more identifiable and Mac oriented. Stand Back is so emblematic as a Stevie solo song, one that bears little resemblance to the band's style/vibe.

Yay! Thank you for good news! 😘 Get outta here with your solo stuff.

It may happen or not. I hope the show will focus more on Christine's music which we have not heard in ages. This is a special tour with all 5 members of the Rumours era are together.

It would be nice if Stevie breaks out with a song from her upcoming album.
Personally I rather see her promote this new album with a solo tour where she can focus on a handful of tunes from the new album like she did with her IYD album.

i really don't care much what Stevie songs they do, except i want to hear GDW, SOTM (which i'm sure won't happen again!), and Silver Springs. so personally any change from the stale versions of her old hits would be welcome as far as i'm concerned.

however, i really can't see how FM can promote a solo album from just one of their songwriters (e.g., eagles perform past solo hits but i think they are somewhat equally distributed among songwriters). especially any "new" album (even if the songs are all decades old), when that same songwriter has placed several different versions of the Mac new album on hold, starting from 2010.

i also don't see the reasoning some fans here like to espouse about FM interfering with one or the other songwriter's solo plans. however much i personally want LB solo, he is usually claiming that the band comes first, then solo (and he asks the band to give him a few years when he feels he needs it for solo). SN also claims that the band comes first, and solo is just for extra songs she can't put out with the band. so the logic that FM is interfering with someone's solo plans does not make sense, unless these fans are claiming that SN is lying when she says that FM comes first, and that she actually thinks FM is just a vehicle to promote herself solo.

Now a days FWM uses Stevie to promote themselves. It's a symbiotic relationship. They wouldn't and couldn't tour as often and as big with out her. The most Lindsey would do would be to release a few indie albums and do a handful of low key theater shows for 10 people. As much as I love Christine, her return to the band would go un noticed if Stevie wasn't still in the band. Sorry wake up and smell the coffee. Sorry. Tunnel vision for some folks

This band barely ever likes performing new songs from their own catalogue. They like to play hits that get a strong audience response (hence why Stand Back has endured over many actual FM songs). Coupled with the fact that they're having to re-fit a bunch of Christine songs into the set, I see absolutely zero reason to expect to hear any 24 Karat Gold songs on this tour.

Could you be more condescending? Most of the news surrounding the new tour have been interviews with only Christine and Lindsey. But you're right about the tunnel vision, when you think it's all about Stevie somehow.

i don't think anybody is disputing that SN is the most commercially successful of the 3 current FM songwriters.

now, when Christine returned and they officially announced it plus new tour on Today Show, that seemed to have been all the advertising they needed to practically sell-out that exorbitantly priced tour... there's probably a good reason both Mick and Stevie are getting out their new projects concomitantly with the Mac playing the Today Show.

it would be really interesting to see whether all the claims of CM-LB fronted FM as possibly less commercial than SN-LB fronted FM would pan out, but it seems we are destined to just forever speculate. although i tend to agree with you that it would be less commercial, and probably most of the people think the same.

artistically, CM-LB fronted FM looks like they would have several more albums in them, while CM-SN-LB fronted FM unfortunately seems to be in some kind of artistic stand-still, forever waiting for SN for one or the other reason.

Even without Stevie's solo album there will be plenty of interest in FM in 2015.

Spoken from a true insider.

The reason why they are even touring is because of her.(Stevie)

Wrong. They are touring because of Christine's sudden return and are capitalizing on that all the way to the largest arenas and their collective bank accounts.(LOL)

Do you really believe this mumbo jumbo? FM as a whole always sells more tickets than Stevie solo.Cutting down Lindsey's abilities to command a paying audience to prove your point is not a welcome reasoning on this board.Yes, Stevie is my favorite singer but even she tells young musicians to never leave your band because you never know when you'll need them in the long run.

I don't think "Stand Back" will be dropped because it has been in every concert set list since 1987. Dropping the Extended Play songs for new material seems like a stronger possibility.

No way that any new solo Stevie stuff will be in this set list. Stevie can promote/tour for 24K after the FM shows.

Didn't Mick, Christine & Lindsey all show up at Stevie's album's sessions here & there? I think since they were involved (even ever so minimally), there IS a chance that a song or two will make it into the set. Especially, since there is a familiarity to most (& for some of us, all) of the songs on this upcoming album, I think they'd be less hesitant to include some of them than they would had the album been of all recently written material. Even some of the songs had their fetal beginnings in Fleetwood Mac sessions, so there's also THAT as a reason for including them.

Being that Christine is returning, most of her penned material will (or "should") feel fresh again...so the "staleness" factor of the set list of the past couple of tours should be somewhat fixed. I'm pretty sure that we're NOT going to be hearing any material from the Extended Play or Say You Will on this upcoming tour; and, I would be VERY surprised if we did.

While I can totally understand not promoting a solo album during a Fleetwood Mac tour, I am surprised at how many people seem offended by even the notion, given that the single biggest complaint here on The Ledge (and we have many) is their stagnant set lists.

When we were all debating the On With the Show set list, I never posted my guess, but I think The Dance set list would get you 95% of the way there. The only thing to figure out is which four songs will replace the four that were new for The Dance. For Stevie, it probably means playing both "Sara" and "Gypsy" instead of having to choose one or the other.

I don't know, but I tend to think that something that has its primary existence as a solo number and that hasn't or isn't going to have a band studio release shouldn't be aired at a band gig - and that goes for Buckingham Nicks stuff as well (save Crystal, by my own logic!). With so much great material that needs to be re-aired, it strikes me as a little self-indulgent. I always get this feeling when Stand Back gets played every tour (Lindsey's miming during that isn't he?).

Having said all that and given the egos involved, I'm kind of surprised that the solo numbers that have found their way into various sets over the years are relatively few and I'm grateful for that....

NOOOOO

Please not, first, it's a Fleetwood Mac tour, not Stevie Nicks featuring Fleetwood Mac

Second, there LOT of good Mac songs never played live. It would be so unfair if they include any solo song (Stevie, Lindsey or Chris) instead of those songs.

You singled "Go Insane" out, but if that's the case "Big Love" belongs in the same category. Even though "Big Love" is a FM song originally I don't really see a different between him playing that solo or "Go Insane". It's still Lindsey solo.

Once again, I'm not advocating for solo songs in the setlist, but I think the "band" vs. "solo" label means a lot more to us than to them. We know Mick enjoys playing Stand Back; I think it may have even been his idea to include it in the set originally. I don't think he cares that 30 years ago, he spent a few minutes laying down drum tracks for Gypsy but not for Stand Back. He's happy to play both, and why shouldn't he be?

If those 5 people play something new for us this fall (which they won't), shouldn't we just be happy about it? Or do we have to know whose album it will be on before we decide how we feel about it?

Yes, Fleetwood Mac will perform one or two songs from 24 Karat Gold - Songs from the Vault.

"Stand Back" will never be dropped from Fleetwood Mac's set list. It is a standard among "Rhiannon," "Landslide," "Dreams," "Gold Dust Woman," "Silver Springs," "Sara" and "Gypsy."

Therein lies the problem- Your standards total 8 songs. Assuming each of Stevie, Christine and Lindsey are allowed an equal share of the setlist then you'd have 24 songs plus The Chain (plus World Turning?). 25/26 songs is already too many.

There wouldn't be space for 24KG songs without compromising a couple of the standards. To include one or two you'd take out Stand Back and one of either Silver Springs/Sara/Gypsy.

I so agree with you.

If she performs a song from her album, I think it they/Stevie won't make a big deal about it. It could be announced as a song that almost made it on Fleetwood Mac album. It won't matter much, because Christine is going to steal the show anyway.

I completely agree. I love Stand Back, but all the solo songs need to go by the wayside with Christine back. The only way I would accept them is everyone had one solo song, and they all sang on each. They definitely need to do Without You with Christine, though. I thought it was a pretty great performance as a duet, but even better with Chris's contributions.

I think people are slightly missing the point here...

Stevie planned on taking the usual break for solo work after the FM tour and made plans
one of them being making a record "24K"(which we now know
she was under contract with WB to get done) and one would imagine
a tour in support of the new record...
Stevie's fans have had this opportunity stolen from them...
Stevie's fans have waited as long time for
her to do something like this and now it (24 Karat Gold) is going to get
inadequate & limited promotion and NO TOUR!

This isn't about Stevie turning FM into a Stevie Nicks concert it's about compromise...
Stevie made a huge compromise when she told the band that she would tour with
FM instead of(compromise ) a solo tour in support of her new
record...
Stevie very easily could have told the band "You know what everyone
knows I have a contract and need to record an album for WB so I absolutely
have to get the album done and then I'm going to do a tour for it and once
I'm done with that we can do FM" but that's not what she did Stevie
compromised so FM could have their "Reunion Tour" sooner rather than later...

Since Stevie went way out of her way so this reunion tour could happen and
gave up (compromise) a promotional tour for 24K just so the
FM fans could have what they have been waiting for is it to much to ask
that she be able to sing 1 or 2 of her new songs?

Mick, Lindsey and Christine all get to showcase their talents with a "solo"
why can't Stevie's little solo portion of the show be a song or two from her
new album?

But FM recognizes much stronger lines of demarcation.

And no, the fans that want FM to shake things up in their setlist are mostly fans that want deeper FM cuts. They just don't want new songs just for the sake of new songs. Otherwise, they'd be advocating that FM start doing covers in their sets and very few focused fans want that.

I tend to agree with this statement and it makes sense. If "24 Karat Gold" had already been planned for release, why not let Stevie tour this fall to promote the solo record (while also laying down some vocal tracks for the new Mac album in between). The Mac tour seems a bit rushed. Why not finish the Mac record for a Summer 2015 release and schedule the "On With The Show" Tour for Fall of 2015 with some new music to promote? There is a conflict of interest going on here and I'm afraid that "24 Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault" is not going to receive the promotion it deserves, meaning a solo tour. While I AM more in favor of The Mac record with Christine McVie back in the fold, I feel that it could have waited until Stevie's solo project was properly promoted and the shelf life had run its course (next year).

Moreover, I'm also wondering if this will be Stevie's last record for Warner/Reprise and this solo album is being released to fulfill her contractual obligation. Did Warner/Reprise give Stevie a deadline to turn in the solo record?

Nonetheless, kudos to Stevie for trying to be "flexible" and work with the band in light of Christine's sudden whim to return. Consequently, I have no problem with songs from Stevie's NEW SOLO RECORD (24 Karat) being playing in the Fleetwood Mac set list this Fall. In addition, I feel that some of these new tracks would fit the Fleetwood Mac vibe a lot better than "Stand Back", which is very out of place in a MAC set list. So, bring on the "24 Karat" songs in "On With The Show".

Fair enough, but if they wanted really strong lines of demarcation, they wouldn't play Stand Back either. There are other ways to keep audience interest. There's always at least one Stevie-sung FM hit that goes unplayed while SB remains in the set. Also, I would be curious what the rationale is for including Go Insane . Does it serve a function that other Lindsey songs do not?

And no, the fans that want FM to shake things up in their setlist are mostly fans that want deeper FM cuts. They just don't want new songs just for the sake of new songs. Otherwise, they'd be advocating that FM start doing covers in their sets and very few focused fans want that.

Oh, I know the preference is for FM deep cuts, and as I said I wasn't necessarily advocating for solo songs. But I personally wouldn't equate solo songs with covers. Maybe some Ledgies would, but I would much rather hear a fresh solo hit by any of them than a cover of another band's song.

I for one would be shocked if the band did one of Stevie's "new" songs at a FM show. Won't happen.

Yeah, that's not a possibility. Something to argue about, I suppose, but nothing that's going to happen.

FM doesn't have a lot of dance songs, especially not ones that people know. I would be fine if they used EFO, but the bulk of the audience would not. They don't see another way to keep the audience interest other than Stand Back. They think smacking it together with two Lindsey songs creates a huge reaction.

As for Go Insane, the rationale was that Lindsey put Big Love and Go Insane together in his solo set and it got a big reaction, so he strung them together for FM, figuring if it's not broke, don't fix it. He put those together with Sardonic World, because he was satisfied with the way it all went together solo, but FM dropped Go Insane years ago and I don't anticipate them bringing it back. So, it seems like a moot issue.

I kinda wish they'd do Hypnotized with Stevie singing. I know that'll probably never happen, but it seems like it could be an appropriate tribute to Bob Welch, and Lindsey does a version of Oh Well sometimes, so why not? My feeling is it would be better than another jesus-kabillion renditions of Landslide. I would at least approve of a small shakeup of the setlist, doesn't have to necessarily include anything from the new (or an old) Stevie solo record.

Mick, Lindsey and Christine all get to showcase their talents with a "solo"
why can't Stevie's little solo portion of the show be a song or two from her
new album?

Great points, Blue Denim! At the very least Stand Back can stand back for this tour, in favor of a new/old song. Despite the "energy" factor many cite as a justification for it to stay in the set, as to imply all their shows prior to the inclusion of Stand Back were somehow lacking, well that's a bunch of bull sh*t. Fleetwood Mac shows were just fine long before Stand Back ever existed. No one is going to miss it. It's alright, It's alright.

Excellent post BlueDenim, but I have mixed feelings about this whole FM vs.Stevie tour.I think Stevie was under alot of pressure from both sides, and throw in her business woman self.I mean, she is the first one to say that FM should wait about 3 years between tours because if they just did a tour,no one would really miss them yet. However, she knows that she will capitalize much more on a FM tour due to the anticipation of Chris's return.I guess I feel this way because of her comments about how unhappy she was when "In Your Dreams" sold (in her eyes and mind) so little. In a nutshell I'm thinking that Stevie would much rather be touring to promote "24 Karat" but she knows a FM tour will satisfy her more financially.I know we all love her and see her as a rock queen, but she really is a savvy business woman too.

Great points, Blue Denim! At the very least Stand Back can stand back in the middle, beginning and end of this tour, in favor of a new song. Stevie might miss it. She wants her share of songs in the set that bring that kind of reaction. She had Rhiannon in the old days, but that exorcism Rhiannon cost her long term and it's not the same triumph today when it's performed. So, now the song she has that makes people leap up at the opening note and still has them fanning themselves after it's over are Stand Back and GDW. Solo, she also has Edge too, but with FM she doesn't have the equivalent. I think she likes keeping a hot dance number in her selections.

She has other songs that the audience might also like. Seven Wonders might get enhanced attention after AHS, especially. But to keep a balance in the songs we get from her, so there's an even representation of soft, sultry, fast and loud, I think Stand Back is the only thing that works. The old SOTM would work too, but not the version we got on the last tour.

There's Landslide on one side of the scale, causing the audience to sway in unison. What's on the other? Aside from Edge, I don't think she has another song that can be her Don't Stop or GYOW.

I wouldn't care if Stand Back wasn't in the setlist. But I understand the needs that keep the band from dropping it. Michele

Very reasonable and insightful assessment! Wouldn't it be wonderful if Stevie writes and performs a new song for Fleetwood Mac, on par with Go Your Own Way or Don't Stop; one that rivals the impact of Stand Back. Then she can drop Stand Back!;)

It's not so much Stevie writing a song like that it's convincing the band that they should record / perform it...

Stevie hasn't written a dance song on par with Stand Back for her solo career, so I don't think she's had any trouble convincing FM to let her do one. I would say GAG comes closest. Some people like FFG, but I don't. I like the lyrics and the swell of emotion in it, but I don't really like the music and while I applaud the fact that she kept it in her setlist longer than I thought she would, I was glad for GAG to come along as the new rocker.

Of course, in this day and age, even if she had a better song than Stand Back, it would never have the same level of audience recognition and would never get the airplay and circulation that was available to FM in the eighties, so they are never going to have equivalent songs in terms of popularity, even if they surpass the old ones in terms of craft and quality.

Without You is strictly a Buckingham Nicks two -part harmony demo, which was far better than their recorded EP version. They should just remixed the original demo for release. And their live performance of it was lackluster. Not sure Christine would even consider singing it. I think it was a one tour song, much like most of the songs on Say You Will.

If they wanted to drop "Stand Back" for a very FM-ish song the Buckingham/Nicks tune "Let Me Down Again" might not be a bad choice...

They tried that. Failed. I honestly don't think it was as good as Without You, but the audience might have responded better to it, if it had had an intro. A short one, not a 9 minute one. But a 2 minute intro might have sparked the audience and, in turn, made Lindsey and Stevie more animated about it as well.

Hilarious that they also performed the song right after Lindsey left the band, a nice message to him, but I don't even know if he realized it was in their setlist.

Is there any possibility that Stevie will open for FM? I mean maybe she can do a short solo set of a couple of 24 Karat Gold songs (and maybe EO17 and SB). Is that why her solo band members were just recently at her house? It could have been a compromise that she made with FM to go on tour with them while still being able to promote her new album. At least on the US leg of the tour.

I don't think it's a possibility for many, many reasons, but one of them is that I doubt that Stevie would want to be on stage that long. She wouldn't want to do a 45-60 minute set as the opener and then come out and play 2.5 hours with FM.

You're probably right but with Christine back there is less burden on Stevie during the FM set - she can also be off stage for a while if they bunch a few Lindsey and Chris songs together (their deeper cuts where she's not needed). But I'm sure the FM politics will preclude this from happening.

I see what you mean about burden. Yes, there's another person there, but she still has to sing background on all of Christine's songs, except Songbird. Singing background is not as vocally tiring as singing lead, but you're still standing there and singing, so it's not like resting. They would consider the audience as well. There is a limit to how long the SN fans in the audience would want her off stage, so it's not like she can be gone for more than a couple of songs, even if the band has plenty of songs they could play in her absence. She's already gone for Big Love, much of World Turning and ISA (and I am pretty sure that Christine will sing on ISA with Lindsey), with Christine there or not, she's not going to be able to be off stage for much more than that, because the audience wouldn't like it, even if the band thought it made sense.

It would also be hard to even explain to casual concert-goers what was going on. Fleetwood Mac, with Stevie Nicks opening. How can you be the opening act and the headliner? Does this mean she is not in the band? Who exactly will we be seeing after Stevie? If Stevie's not in FM, will she do any FM songs? Will FM do her songs? Sounds silly to Ledgies, but think about how many people go to shows and don't even know what the band's hits are until they start playing them.

It was on the Best Buy CD, with SYHA, Temporary One, etc. It would not be the most outrageous thing to happen for FM to perform it.

Being 24 Karat Gold's first single, how likely would "The Dealer" be performed?

It would be a pipe dream, but "If You Were My Love" would be great live.

I don't think it does. I think it means a fair amount to them and I don't think Mick was just happy to play on Stand Back. I think he recognized that his set needed the boost. I think it was a strategic decision to try to keep audience interest. When he's in his own band Mick plays anything. He'll play solo songs from his bandmates. He'll play FM. He doesn't care.

Michele

Wasn't Lindsey the one who wanted Stand Back included in the set on the last tour? I thought I read that somewhere...
