I'm sure that most of us have been listening to a lot more unreleased stevie music since it was announced that the new album will rely almost solely on unreleased songs that we have access to.
I. Personally thought I had heard 90 percent of what's out there, but was really wrong. As people were making their lists for my contest or just randomly mentioning titles in other threads I realized it was more like I only knew half!
So what songs have some of you just recently discovered due to all the recent demos buzz. The one that blew me away the most was You Like Me. I've listened to that probably 20 times in the past week. It's such a kick ass song. So weird that we all cry when there's a lack of new music sometimes, and here's one of my now all time favorite songs and I just chose not to listen to it. We all have just chosen not to hear a lot of new songs when you think about it.
And what's weirder about you like me is it was actually officially released by some other random group. But that doesn't disqualify it from the new album since the same thing happened with sorcerer

The Williams Brothers. They wrote Some Become Strangers, and in turn Stevie gave them You Like Me.

Wow! I'd never heard the Williams Brothers version. As a huge fan of that 80's sound, I love this! I think I might even like it better than Stevie's.

I don't know HOW I missed this one in the past...but The Chain (Demo version) that has completely different verses sung by Stevie. I am totally in love with this song!

Nah, I definitely like Stevie's better.
And none of us had access to that version of the chain until that new rerelease came out last year.

Another thing I've realized very recently is just how many of these out takes are RAL era. I never thought of the RAL sessions being as creative as they actually were. There was a lot of incredible stuff being recorded in 1984. Not just unreleased stuff. Half of street angle originates from the rock a little sessions plus running thru the garden. Rock a Little could've REALLY lived up to its name and been her most straight up rocking album ever. It should've been 10 hard rocking songs with HAEWAFY there to close it gently. There was too much greatness in these sessions for middle of the road crap like if I were you and I sing for the things to have made the actual album. And while I guess it rocks, sister honey made it over you like me, love is like a river, something exquisite, Chanel Chanel, Rutgers etc.

I LOVED Marilyn Martin's version of "Sorcerer". I actually heard that version in 1984 before I ever knew Stevie's version existed. I also LOVED Stevie's background vocals on Marilyn's version. Stevie ROCKS those background vocals!!!!

I also love Marilyn's "Sorcerer". Interestingly enough, this version isn't the one that ended up in the movie for some reason.
"Sorcerer" appears in Streets Of Fire as a music video for Diane Lane's character. The song is completely different than the Marilyn Martin version ~ Guitar driven. No piano. Very dark. It's actually really cool. The woman credited for singing the vocal in this version (as well as the rest of Diane's character's songs) is Laurie Sargent.
Anyone know whether this version (the complete song) is available or even exists anymore?

Yes - this is why, I think, so many fans including myself are a little obsessed over the discarded Mirror Mirror album. It would have been dark, rocky, and stormy, like her working relationship with Jimmy Iovine at the time.

I have been listening to all of the old demos the past week....rotating the entire list constantly. I can't even pick a favorite, I love almost all of them. It has been a decade since I really listened to the lot of them. I really enjoy the few acapella versions of some of the demos that are out there...
This whole demo listening experience has been very good for me.....my house hasn't had any music playing in it for many many years...I went from living in absolute silence (I even removed all tv's years ago) to rocking out the central music system. I am coming back to life. For that I am thankful to the music gods (and Stevie).

I wish I could get rid of the TVs. My husband is a news/politics JUNKIE and also watches too much reality TV when he should be actively engaging in home ownership by cleaning out the gutters or finishing one of the dozen projects he started, but left me to finish.
I hate TV, really. What a life-sucking contraption.
But the music never stops in my home. I have two stereo's on different levels of the house and I want music everywhere I go.
