Pick 3 songs that you would like to see Fleetwood Mac open with. The tunes don't have to be realistic. (Especially after you see mine. :D)
1. Child of Mine
2. I Don't Wanna Know
3. Wrong

Open with a Chris tune would be great.
1) The Chain
2) Warm Ways
3) World Turning
This is my choice at the moment....but could change for sure .

I still think The Chain is the best opener they've ever had. It starts off eerie, sets the mood, and gradually ramps up to a tour de force. It's perfect.
I think Sisters Of The Moon could really be a great opener if they made it more powerful again. And I'm not talking about Stevie pulling out a Mirage style vocal- we all know that's not possible. But juice up the electric guitar, crank up Mick's drums. Get Stevie to stop chanting "sister, sister..." and showcase the rocking music. Fleetwood Mac has never opened with a Stevie song. Maybe it's time?
Say You Love Me could be a great way to showcase that Chris is back.
Tusk could be fun.
Over and Over or Love In Store would make me very happy. But it should be a Christine song, for sure.
Over And Over or Love in Store would make me very, very happy. But it should be a Christine song, for sure.

I would love to hear something that they haven't opened with before. The problem is trying to think of something that would work. While I think SYLM is the one I think they will do as a way to welcome back Chris I wouldn't mind hearing Hold Me as an opener. It would certainly be a real treat and I think the audience would be pleasantly surprised.

If they broke out Over & Over as the opener I would keel over with happiness. Though the beginning of the song is just so quiet for an opener. I'm not sure how well that would work. But it turns into such a beast later, so it could be awesome.

I was ready to discount it as well. But that ending is so sublime it might feed right into, The Chain.

^ I agree with the above comment that The Chain is probably the best opener they have had although it also fits nicely as the 2nd song of the set.
I also would love them to open with Think About Me or Say You Love Me. Not sure how You Make Loving Fun would be for an opener but it is one of my favs from Christine.

I listed the songs in the order of importance to the energy of the set:
1. Blue Letter (I think they should start the show with a fast number to get the audience up)
2. Second Hand News (I think after Blue Letter, they should immediately follow with this song. I liked this opening Tour 2013)
3. The Chain (This should be the third song of the set. As an opener, it's engaging but I think it's more effective when it follows a faster number like it did in 2013 (Second Hand News into The Chain)

Over and Over would be just delicious as an opener as would Think About Me, but I'm thinking they'll go with Say You Love Me as it has worked well as an opener before and people would be more familiar than TAM. I can't seem them doing a Stevie opening song, especially something she hasn't done in a while or never done. As great as I Don't Want to Know would be it's not going to happen I don't think.

1. Love In Store. This song is catchy and upbeat!
2. Think About Me. A nice groovy rocker.
3. The Chain done differently;
It would start off as the Rumours Deluxe demo version up until the 2:04 mark, the lights go out and then Mick starts in with the drums and the band goes into regular album version.

PLEASE! Anything but The Chain. Yes, it's a great opener, but so damn predictable, like seeing the same movie over and over and over again, as if there are no other options. You know what's coming. This isn't a ****ing church service.
Don't you want it to be fresh, to be surprised? Isn't it enough that we going to get the same songs they've driven into the ground, for the most part, in the last twenty years, with Dreams following The Chain, (which I always thought sucked the energy out of the room after such a rousing opener.).
A long shot for sure, but what if Christine came out with the song she performed as an opener early on when Lindsey and Stevie just joined the band - Get Like You Used to Be? (the sentiment being very appropriate considering her long absence from being in the band).
A previous poster suggested Blue Letter! Great call! I always thought that would be a great opener since I saw them perform it on the Mirage tour.

I'm not going to see FM anytime soon, but I picked The Chain for a third option and gave it a twist just in case the band decides to go with the same old stand-by. You know.... mix it up a little. Which they probably won't do.
But I really hope they pick a Chris song as an opener.
In my opinion, they just shouldn't do any solo songs. I mean they have three singers again and alot of other songs to choose from.

The only sure thing is that THEY MUST OPEN WITH A CHRISTINE MCVIE song. We have missed our English Songbird and it would really get the crowd going. My guess is that they'll open with "Say You Love Me" with the SECOND song being "The Chain". Fleetwood Mac is usually very predictable with their set lists.
I would really like to see them open with:

Think About Me (three part harmony)
Hold Me

I hope you could tell I wasn't serious. I 100% agree that Stand Back shouldn't be in the setlist. It's the only recognizable Stevie song I could see potentially starting a show. Gold Dust Woman has the fantastic, moody opening but usually runs too long for an opener.
My biggest suggestion a few weeks back in the setlist thread was Tusk. I loved how that song was deconstructed in the pilot of The Americans and could be a great opening song, building from instrumental only and then picking up tempo. Plus, it's never been an opener before. Second Hand News was fantastic last year and gave the beginning of the concert so much life...much more successful than Monday Morning, which isn't as exciting, as fast, nor the jolt you need to start a show.
I don't see a Christine song for the opener, as they might want to properly introduce her, welcome her back to the band before she goes into Say You Love Me as her first song.

Well, I wouldn't open with the Chain just because I don't think the first song gets full attention. That's why I like it second. During the first song the audience is just happy to see you. They're screaming and reacting, not focusing, so the first minute or so of the opening just gets swallowed up in audience enthusiasm. I'd put a song up front that I don't mind not relishing in its entirety. But it has to be exciting too. Unfortunately, Monday Morning wasn't exciting the last time it was used, so I wouldn't use that again, BUT it does fit my criteria of being a song that I can afford to be a partial "throw away."
I understand there is a reason when Letterman does his Top Ten list that he never has the best joke at #1. I've never actually heard that reason explained, but I assumed that I knew already. The audience is all set to clap at the end, no matter what he says. The segment is wrapping up and a part of them is already distracted and has stopped concentrating on the humor. So, they don't want to waste a good joke at the end when no one will fully appreciate it. That's my guess. That's how I feel about the opening song too.
Now, for the video, it's great to open with The Chain or some other really hot number on dvd, if not in real life.

I think for the first show they should open with a Christine song, and I know this won't happen, but I'd love it to be Oh Daddy. That would really be amazing.
For the rest of the tour, I think they'll go with something fast to get the crowd going.
Monday Morning hasn't been great when they've tried that, so why not stick with last years.
1. Oh Daddy/Second Hand News
2. Say You Love Me

^It would actually be great if they opened with IDWTK, but so funny. After all of the years that Lindsey and Stevie didn't do it as a duet, if they pulled it out with Christine back that would be so backwards and hilarious.
Also, it's upbeat, an energetic way to kick things off, but not a fan favorite, so it won't get wasted in the clamor of them first taking the stage, since no one would pay that much attention to it anyway.
It's just right. You know it if you have Rumours, as millions of people do, but you aren't familiar with it from the radio, so it's like something that casual and focused fans can both appreciate a bit, without being a "hit" that needs to be reserved for a special place in the set.

Ooooh, very interesting. I never considered Oh Daddy for an opener. That would be so fascinating, to start with a wonderfully atmospheric song. So many opportunities for cool staging and lighting (though Fleetwood Mac never tends to pay too much mind to that stuff, unfortunately). And then crank it up with Second Hand News or The Chain. Begin slow with a relatively short song, and then ending with a slow song, sending the audience out all mushy mushy.

Also, I should add if they chose to start that way (with an Oh Daddy type song), I don't know if the song wouldn't get full (or close to full) attention. In that case, if done correctly, it could be absolutely captivating, with the audience completely absorbed. I've seen some musicians (stars usually) do this, where they have the entire audience in their hand and raise the drama in the first number before going into a more upbeat song.

From seeing other concerts and bands, I think a slow open only works when the song is relatively quick---and it has to be staged correctly to be effective. I wish Fleetwood Mac cared more about stage design, lighting, staging, the works, etc. What they could do (but never would), is play a few bars of a slow song (Oh Daddy, for instance--the first two verses and refrain) and then go right into something more up beat as the rest of the band joins in, makes their appearances, the spots come on them for dramatic effect. This could really highlight voice and really could captivate an audience.

I think it could be great if done right....just extend that intro part, the synth or whatever it is right before the vocal starts and build up momentum and then Lindsey starts singing, and then BOOM, the concert is off to a rocking start...and totally different than anything they've done before. I wish they were more creative and had confidence that their audience wouldn't abandon them for playing something different.
I always thought, if there was a proper Tango tour, Tango in the Night/Isn't it Midnight/Seven Wonders would have been a great trio to open with!

Totally agree here too...how about start the encore section (after GYOW, which will never, ever, ever move) with The Chain?
They love to rehash Rumours ad nauseum...so close the show out with The Chain/Silver Springs/Don't Stop/Songbird. I'd honestly rather have an all-Rumours encore section than have World Turning in that spot yet again.

I cant see anything other than Second Hand News, Monday Morning or The Chain. However, if they really fancied something a bit different they should open with a full band version of Big Love (that could have opened in 87-88). That would free up the chance for a reworked Christine song for the acoustic section alongside Landslide and NGBA.

They aren't going to risk anything with the opening song. (They haven't before, at least since '90 when they opened with "In The Back Of My Mind", so what makes you think they'll do it this coming tour?)
But, if somebody were to check their egos & make me Musical Director, I would have them run the first four songs together (like side 2 of Abbey Road, the last chord of the song is the first chord of the next one)...

Recently I've been listening quite a bit to the FM albums that feature Christine before Stevie and Lindsey joined... Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, Mystery To Me and Heroes Are Hard to Find.
I keep thinking how appropriate it would be to open this year's shows with Christine's "Remember Me" from Penguin. It's a terrific, upbeat song.
My other two choices: "I Don't Want To Know" or "Love In Store".
Ideally, for this tour, I'd love for them to open with "Say You Love Me". It's a great uptempo song to start the concert with and a very fitting way to welcome Chris back. I'd want to hear the plugged in version though, not the acoustic Dance one.

I can't remember which thread I posted my proposed setlist, but I buried "The Chain." The song is amazing, but they need to keep people, especially the die-hard fans, on their toes. In it, I think I had the original/Rosebud version of "You Make Lovin' Fun" as the opener. As many have said, it needs to be a Christine song, although there was a good point made about the lack of a Stevie opener. That would be ironic.

Some of Christine's greatest work is during the Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch eras. There definitely should be one of those songs - "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" - in the list, but I doubt they'd be willing to make one of those tunes the opener.
Oh! And I found my list:
I've made significant changes to the main form of the setlist they play, alongside new selections.
1. Monday Morning
2. You Make Lovin’ Fun
3. Gypsy
4. Bleed To Love Her
5. Angel (or Freedom)
6. Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
7. I’d Rather Go Blind
8. Hypnotized
9. Tusk
10. Rhiannon
11. Say You Love Me
12. Eyes Of The World
13. Dreams
14. Little Lies
15. Big Love (Acoustic)
16. Without You
17. World Turning
18. Oh Well
19. The Chain
Encore
20. Landslide or Silver Springs – varies per show
21. Don’t Stop
22. Go Your Own Way
23. Songbird
As you can see, my idea buries The Chain and Landslide deep into the setlist because they pretty much always are placed in the same spot. This'll make people want them more. And it'll make Landslide more special for this tour if it's alternated with Silver Springs.
I'd Rather Go Blind - yes, a bit of a solo tune - is in here as a dedication to Christine and Fleetwood Mac's blues roots, and Spare Me... and Hypnotized for the Bob Welch era - I'm surprised, despite all that happened, they haven't played one of his songs already. Can anyone shed light on if they ever said anything about losing Bob on the 2013 tour?
Freedom could be an alternate for Angel, but it's faster than everything around it, so if it *were* used, the setlist would have to move around a bit.
For You Make Lovin' Fun, the alternate/Rosebud arrangement would be played.
Without You would be sung by all three! How amazing would that be?!

To my knowledge there were some statements in the press from Stevie and Mick. I was surprised that the day it was announced Lindsey played Ithaca NY and didn't mention it. I thought he might have said something during the show since Bob's leaving was the reason he and Stevie got to join the band in the first place. I had thought of asking him during the meet and greet about Bob but I thought it might make for awkward conversation.

I 100% agree that Landslide needs to come at the very end of the concert. It should be one of the encores, if not the very last song if Songbird's location changes. People are looking for this song...in my experience going to rock concerts it's always good to keep them waiting. Once again I was only joking about Stand Back(!!!); it's the only possible Stevie opener I could think of. Here was a recent setlist configuration I finagled:

Say You Love Me

Sorry, no Say You Will Songs or new songs. I'd have liked to put Thrown Down and Fireflies, but I just don't feel like they are very likely. Plus, would Stevie actually drop Gold Dust Woman or Rhiannon or Dreams? Bleed to Love Her is probably the most likely this time around. Really, they shouldn't be too restrictive with their set, as they did just tour a year ago and people (fans and casual concert goers alike) want a different show. (Good) music critics should want a different show too. I think this setlist has 18 different songs from last time (counting a different arrangement for Gypsy). 27-28 may sound like a lot, but Beyonce and Jay-Z just announced a 42 song setlist!

They are somewhat in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situation.
On one hand, there are those who to expect hear all well-know songs performed - the hits and the other concert staples; there's comfort in the familiarity of the songs and sequencing. Yet, even though Christine's old classics will be reintroduced into the set, many fans might feel that the band's choices and approaches will still be bit stale, rote, safe and overdone.
On the other hand, what if they delivered a fresh, surprising and innovative set that not only includes some essential hits, but also unexpected songs -- deep tracks, never-performed and obscure songs, some with different arrangements, and radically sequenced? If it deviates to much from the standard fare, some attendees might feel slighted.
Some bands don't feel the constrictions to conform to a set-in-stone set list that just panders to the masses. With Fleetwood Mac, having multiple hits from three writers, is a blessing and a curse. It just makes forming a viable set list much more complex.

They are somewhat in a "damned if we do. damned if we don't" situation.
If it deviates to much from the standard fare, some attendees might feel slighted - not enjoying unfamiliar songs -despite them being fantastic songs/greatly performed.

1. My Little Demon
2. Love in Store
3. Eyes of the World
4. Isn't it Midnight
5. (and here's one for the long, longshot wish) Station Man
Anyone of these songs would be a great way to start. Get them up and running with a fast tune and some ripping guitar.
Monday Morning and Say You Love Me are both fine openers that have been done to death.
I would have typed in Sisters of the Moon, too, but after hearing Stevie's vocals on it from the previous tour the song might best be retired.

Matt
Thanks, Matt. That is rather depressing, to be honest. I think I remember Stevie's and Mick's comments. Hopefully something will be said/done on this tour.
Also, I now realize I forgot Gold Dust Woman in my set. For now, it would go between Dreams and Little Lies.

So how about this for the concert opening? Great, energy-filled, fast, amazing sounds. Love this version. This is what I want from a first song. Then, we can launch into Say You Love Me.

That would be funny, and so unexpected! But despite being a nice song, Everywhere is such a lightweight tune. It would be an underwhelming concert opener, but a great second song, unseating Dreams to another place in the set, which would be a refreshing change.
It was very surprising when they opened their shows with Second Hand News. I thought that was a great choice.

I like this idea a lot. There are a lot of mellow Christine songs that would sound good as part of the acoustic section of the show. Never Make Me Cry is one that comes to my mind. And a full band version of Big Love would be a welcome change of pace.
In my fantasies, in the middle of their set, how cool it would be if they just stripped down to the five of them (no back up singers/musicians), and perform an intimate acoustic set of three or four songs.
Never Make Me Cry is a perfect choice, or perhaps Honey Hi, which lends itself to more group interaction. For example, Lindsey could perform Save Me a Place, and Stevie could perform Goodbye Baby. I hope their shows will have some unexpected/inspired moments; something out of left field that departs from their standard routines.

Everywhere is a perfect second or third song. I wonder if she'll play it this time out. I also wonder how true to Christine's word the band will be to reimagining their songs and set.
Could Oh Daddy work as an acoustic/no backgrounds? I think it'll be in. I'd be so happy if the Gypsy acoustic version re-emerged.

Early on, they did perform Oh Daddy on the Rumours tour with background vocals similar to the recorded version. But I think, in most future performances, it was just a Christine's solo vocal performance. Correct me if I am amiss.

She did perform the song on The Dance tour too. That's what I thought, and why I could figure it into a pared down acoustic section of the concert, that it was just a solo vocal. This is what I'd like to see/what we're most likely to see from Christine:
Not going anywhere:
You Make Loving Fun
Songbird
Say You Love Me
Very Likely
Oh Daddy - this seems to be a band sentimental favorite, all but confirmed
Brown Eyes - the only song we know for sure is in the set, confirmed by Christine; I think this will be her sole representation from Tusk (sorry Think About Me...if Stevie does Angel, Think About Me sounds very similar)
2 Tango Songs - I'd rank in this order of my preference:
Little Lies
Isn't It Midnight
(Everywhere)
1 Mirage Song -
Love In Store
(Hold Me)
Pre-1975 Song
Why
Possible Alternate for Any Above
Over My Head
Not counting Don't Stop, since I see it like The Chain as a "band" song.

I posted the Boston version from 2004 above. If they play it fast like that, with the short cymbals intro and the driving drums, it would be perfect!!

Someone mentioned how great it would be to have a little acoustic set, something I've always felt could work really well and show off the harmonies between Lindsey, Christine and Stevie again. They could perhaps perform four tracks like Honey Hi, Save Me a Place, Crystal and Landslide, maybe even throw a surprise in there and perform Twisted.

I wonder if Oh Daddy counts as acoustic. Anyone know who saw it performed back in 1997? I've only seen the video on YouTube and it's hard to tell. I definitely feel this song will be performed, based on what Christine said recently and the overall sentiment with which the band seems to regard it.
Imagine Hold Me or something completely unexpected for an acoustic version. Like Gypsy back at the Phoenix tribute, which came completely unannounced? People would go crazy, should a new version appear of Little Lies (maybe Anna Ternheim inspired?) that the band is happy with. Crystal was always one I never understood why they don't play. It's a really nice song and seems to be largely forgotten for the same old standards. Put that one in an acoustic set and move Landslide to encore status, where it belongs at the very end.
I feel a more upbeat song works better for an opener....so I'm not in favor of Say You Love Me if they play it like they did for The Dance. I love this 2004 version of Tusk, with a cymbal opening and then those driving drum beats (might be the fastest they've played it). Would be a killer first song played this way and not slow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajh-mwr8tHA

I agree. I think you should start off with a bang and transmit the kind of energy the band will be generating for much of the next two hours.
When Lindsey started his solo sets off with a slow song, it put the crowd in a more contemplative mood and maybe made them attentive from the get go, quiet enough to hear a pin drop. And that's fine if you're going to be doing mostly acoustic songs, but if you're going to rock out ... set the tone from the opening number and let the slow songs be a breather, rather than a trendsetter.

If it's going to be a Christine hit I would love "You Make Loving Fun", it's funky and fun and higher energy than "Over My Head" or "Say You Love Me", which I always think makes for a nice break between angstier songs. While I'm not very fond of "Hold Me" or "Everywhere" I have to admit that they'd probably work well to reintroduce her. I like "Think About Me" better than either of those two songs though.
My favorite idea in this thread so far is "Station Man" though.

I think YMLF would be a great opener, because the crowd would love it, Lindsey and Christine really get into it and, selfishly, I am not thrilled with it, so I don't mind being distracted by the initial furor while the song is being performed.
I wouldn't want a song I love to be swallowed up in the opening clamor.

Though it is far from my favourite FM song, I think 'Love In Store' would make a great opener with Lindsey's guitar and Mick's drums beginning followed by Christine's vocals and John's bass followed by Stevie's harmonies. A really great opener I think.

From recent tours, I actually think Monday Morning worked fantastic not only as an opener but it was also a great lead in for The Chain which somehow was a perfect follow up to it. That combination worked better for me than Second Hand News into The Chain.
But I also believe Everywhere would be a perfect opener celebrating Christine's return - to combat the minute or two distracted audience syndrome, they could just lengthen the intro before jumping into the main riff.
For that matter, I also believe Over My Head would work if they did it with the longer intro and in the style of the Rumours Tour version.
I agree if they played Say You Love Me as the opener that they do NOT do that horrid banjo version but do it like the White tour.
As for a possible Stevie opener, I think Seven Wonders would be awesome with those opening chords repeated over and build it louder each time for a minute or 2 before jumping into the song.
Rhiannon would have been a great opener if Stevie could pull off an intense vocal.
Besides Monday Morning, for a Lindsey opener, I do think a studio version of Big Love a la Tango would be killer as well. Similarly, I think Miranda would be great.
Speaking of Say You Will songs, I would hope they do Steal Your Heart Away since that has Christine on the harmonies.
Would also love Say You Will the song.

I agree, it would be great to hear something other than "say goodbye". I have feeling we won't get any Syw songs n the tour. 1 since it was sans Christine and 2 the band doesn't seem to like it. It's sad the tours following the Syw tour the only time we have gotten to hear material from this album is through Lindsey solo shows.

Why has The Chain permanently become the requisite second song in the set list? It's just too predictable; it's been in that slot for decades. And following it with Dreams is a huge a buzz kill. Make it the opener, make it the closer, or second to last, or in the middle of the show. When things becomes too familiar, it just becomes stale and redundant, like a broken record.
I agree with other Ledgies that Monday Morning is a good opener, as would be Say You Will (My long shot choice would be Get Like You Used to Be). I few there are very few Christine songs that would make a good show opener. And, given the unusual circumstances of her return to the band after so many years, putting her out front at the get go of the show immediately squanders the anticipation and excitement. It's like, "here is the return of our old and beloved zoo attraction, so we will waste no time pushing her out front for public consumption."

I don't think Monday Morning or Say You Will quite have enough energy. They're both more middle ground. Second Hand News is fast, plus a guitar solo, and brought so much excitement to the arena last year.
I'm wholly behind moving The Chain. When I made a setlist, I put The Chain as one of the final songs of the concert--it's just fitting to be the final, definitive statement from the band, their last full 5-member song:
Encore 1
Don't Stop
Landslide
Encore 2
The Chain
Songbird

There is something to be said for not starting the bar level at 10. Where do you go from there? Sometimes it's good to start in the middle and build up the energy from there. It's not as if Fleetwood Mac has to hype up their audience from the start. A large percent of the audience are already in that state, especially knowing that Christine is on stage.
I think the opener should be a mid tempo starter. My vote;
Say You Love Me
Monday Morning
The Chain
Gold Dust Woman
Love In Store
Seven Wonders
Everywhere

My vote's for Tusk. I want to hear Mick use the cymbals to build suspense (they always seem to do a little percussion intro after the crickets and prior to the song starting) before launching into the pounding opening drums in the dark in the faster, 2004 version.

Landslide needs to come at the end. It would be most effective in that position, when people are wondering when they will play it and may be most emotionally connected to the song. And like I said about The Chain, I just like the idea that as this group comes together again after 16 years apart that this is their final joint statement to the audience. Through thick and thin, extended periods away from the band, retirements, sicknesses, aging, the chain will keep us together.
I wonder, though, for anyone who remembers seeing Songbird, did it lose some of its potency as the final song if people were already exiting the arena? Maybe that's why Stevie never does Landslide as an encore?

Yes! Good call. Landslide would be a great closer, but that doesn't mean the exclusion of Songbird, which could be performed somewhere else, like in the fan proposed "acoustic set." Just because Landslide, like many other songs, has never been a closing song, why assume it's not a possibility? Walk outs during the last song at a show isn't an issue at all. The majority stays to very end, enthralled! For the the handful of those who leave before the show ends, it has little-to-none impact among thousands of rabid fans who forked out hundreds of dollars to experience the ride of their life until the end.
Imagine people wanting to walk out of a great movie, and missing the ending because they want to beat the crowds and get to the parking lot first. Those aren't fans, they are a small minority, usually with tired/sick kids, or have a babysitter and they don't want to pay them overtime...scenarios and reasons similar to that, or they just idiots who aren't die-hard fans, and don't have the patience to deal with a crowd.
Believe me, the times I've seen Christine close a show with Songbird , or even they when closed the Say You Will show with Goodbye Baby, no one walks away. It's like church (but I'm not religious). All things music and Fleetwood Mac is my church, and The Ledge is my place of worship. (Though I do stray to countless other sects aka bands/artists.) God help me...organize all of my media, and the thousands of downloads on my external hard drive.
