I was just perusing the Discography section of Stevie's Wikipedia page, specifically the "singles" section with chart positions. I found some interesting info and chart positions for random songs and albums in other countries.

Some interesting things I discovered...

1. "Timespace" peaked at #30 in the US, but went all the way to #1 in New Zealand.

2. Three "non-singles" from "The Wild Heart" charted in the US Rock Category. "I Will Run To You" peaked at #35, "Enchanted" at #12 and "Nothing Ever Changes" at #19.

3. "Imperial Hotel" just barely got into the Top 100 charts in Australia, peaking at #99.

4. Both "Two Kinds Of Love" and "Blue Denim" failed to chart in any country.

5. Stevie hasn't charted at all in the US Top 100 in the last 20 years since "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" in 1994.

6. Stevie's music has now been relegated to charting in the US Adult Contemporary Category since 1994, with "Everyday" peaking at #17, "Sorcerer" at #21, "Secret Love" at #20 and "For What It's Worth" at #25. With Fleetwood Mac, "Silver Springs" from the Dance peaked at #5, "Landslide" at #10 and "Say You Will" at #17.

It is pretty apparent that after the 1980s that Stevie and Fleetwood Mac were goners on the pop singles charts. The final top 40 pop showing by any of them was Save Me in 1990 coming in at a disappointing #30 where Fleetwood Mac's preceding studio album had produced 4 top twenty hit singles 2 of them hitting the top 5 plus hitting big on the singles charts all over the world.

Lindsey left the group and his production was responsible for 70 percent of the groups success.

I think the new album is going to be HUGE. It will be like when the Dance was released.

Landslide from The Dance reached NO.51 in August 1998 and Peacekeeper in 2003 reached No.80 on the Hot 100 Pop Charts. Don't know the numbers, but probably placed high on the adult charts of the time.

It will be interesting to see, when Fleetwood Mac finally releases another album, how they will fare on the charts. I suspect upon initial release, the album will shoot up to the upper registers. But I wonder how the singles will do. I hope a solid Christine penned song gives them a top ten hit.

But at this stage in their career, just releasing a good album should be considered a success. They realistically can't compete with today's youth-based, targeted markets, nor should they try. Stylistically and otherwise, they are from a different world.

I've been a subscriber to Rolling Stone since the late seventies. I look at the charts now and the top 40 albums, and most of it is unknown to me. I might find one or two current artists on there that I follow (The Black Keys, for example), but most are just vaguely familiar or just outright unheard of.

Partly it's generational thing. Yet, as a child of the seventies, I was mostly intrigued and focused on the music of the sixties! There's good and bad music to be discovered in every generation. And some exclusive artists and bands transcend those generations. Fortunately, Fleetwood Mac is one of those bands.

yes. i think that the question how will the album fair on the charts will largely depend on how good or crappy is their PR for it. it is entirely possible that it does pretty good, if placed and advertised right, and that would be nice to see.

as a comparison, when 2013 tour was announced they did that whole day of filmed interviews and it didn't do nearly as much for them as just one well-placed Today show interview did for the "reunion" tour.

for the EP, we know there was no advertising whatsoever. it did ok in the first few days just because it was featured as like a 3rd header/banner on the itunes. once when it was gone from the banner, plus with all the reviewer's complaints that it's not worth listening because there's barely any Stevie on it, it was all downhill. so if they do the same thing again (no advertising and depending on a word of mouth which can go either way), the results will probably be the same.

regarding the "singles," i don't see them getting a "radio play" or charting on any regular hot pop charts. they might on rock or [sadly] adult contemporary, but i'd be shocked if they have charting singles on the hot pop charts. i would be surprised if they expect it either, frankly. they don't need that anyway.

I don't consider that under-cooked EP as anything significant. It was just a throw-away digital blip, made with very little effort. As such, those songs will disappear from memory and be buried in their history. It's mostly just a Lindsey project. Only Sad Angel has any redeeming quality.
The marketing of their upcoming album will be taken more seriously, and on a much larger scale in comparison to a rudimentary, rushed, under-produced four song digital compilation. Why did they even consider doing this? Were they pushed into it by their managers, or were they finally self aware enough to know that another oldies tour without anything new to offer made them look old, stale, stagnant and irrelevant?

The effort failed. They should have cleaned up and sweetened the the original demo recording of Without You. If they were fully committed, a new version would have been fine. Instead, a tepid, second-rate version of the song was hastily recorded for the world to compare to the original. It's not a flattering comparison.

I don't really see any singles charting - the Eagles had a GREAT selling album a few years back, but I'm pretty sure none of the tracks charted on the pop charts.

yes, that was the point. Lindsey wanted new album out, same as now, since he wanted FM to stay relevant, show they still have something to say. when he couldn't get everybody in the band on that page, he wanted to have at least some new music out. his intentions seemed crystal clear from his little speech introducing Sad Angel during the tour. my suspicion is that EP ended undercooked and half-hearted effort because the whole band (managers too?) was not completely on board. other than various fan speculations, there is really nothing to tell us the whole band will be on board for the upcoming album, yet, either.

agree. i would expect the same to be the best case scenario for any upcoming FM album.

I just read today that at 57,000 copies sold in its first week, Mariah Carey's new album is considered a flop. If she can't have success, FM's chances are pretty slim.

Hi Viv! Don't count them out yet!

Let us hope the album will be an artistic achievement. Given the age of the band, and the state the music industry, I would hope they will have reasonable expectations about how the record will perform. The world/music business has changed so drastically since their heydays. I think they realize the reality of that.

The record will get a lot of media attention, if only for the fact the Christine is back. Unless Lindsey drags it down to the level of the EP, I bet the album will sell far beyond Mariah's dismal, initial release sales. (Do you always trust your first/initial feelings?)

Where do we find the special knowledge? I heard it holds truth! And bares believing.

other than various fan speculations, there is really nothing to tell us the whole band will be on board for the upcoming album, yet, either.

Lindsey stated that, after the tour, they're going to go back into the studio -- with Stevie -- to finish the album.

That came directly from the horse's mouth, so I believe we can all rest assured that it's more than just fan speculation that the whole band is on board.

I think that Stevie is going to step up to the plate and be fully involved in the creation of the album. Though I feared a Tango In The Night scenario, I'm hopeful she will fully collaborate on it. She's very happy to have Christine back in the fray. It's no longer a boys club. I can't imagine she wouldn't want to spend time working with Christine again.

The only kink was Christine's surprise rejoin; Stevie already had a solo album in the works. She waited 10 years to make another solo album, so everyone was a little blind-sided when, just 3 years later, we find out she's making another solo album. That's lightening speed, given the lethargic pace of the last twenty years.

forgot another thing - the new music FM was originally planning to put out right before 2013 tour was supposed to be just a 2 song download - Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy were the songs we were hearing about from the band at the time.

then all of the sudden right before the tour started, at the last minute they decided to go with the EP instead, and add a BN/SN song for which they went back and forth whether should be put out as a BN or FM song. so it seems that when they were recorded, those 3 songs were not supposed to go on the same release.

why the decision to put out an EP and why 4 songs instead of 2, whether that was the compromise of different band members or different managers pulling each to a different side or a result of something else, is anybody's guess. and as i said above, does not seem very clear at all that something like that will not happen again when the time [finally] comes to put out a whole album.

also, although that should be pretty clear, when talking about "on board" i'm talking about really, enthusiastically in, as opposed to being dragged into the project and agreeing halfheartedly. you know, being happy about it "like a pig in the poo" or whatever Christine said. :)

I don't believe Stevie and Lindsey ever went back and forth to discuss whether a song should be released as a Buckingham Nicks song or a Fleetwood Mac song.

Is this your own assumption? The Buckingham Nicks brand has been defunct since 1974! That wasn't the issue at all.

The band was launching their second tour without any new music. Not sure of the accurate motivation, but Lindsey took the initiative to write a few new songs. Stevie was largely absent from the process.

Eventually she showed up to sing on Sad Angel. Wanting to be represented on the EP, instead of bringing a new song, she reached into her so called vault via the internet. Of course this half-ass version pales in comparison to the original demo.

Let's not forget that Stevie's solo album sold over 52,000 copies in the first week of sale just 3 years ago and has since sold approximately 200,000 copies. Also, the music business has not changed very much since then. The FM album will hopefully be heavily promoted and will hopefully have a similar success that we saw previously with 'The Dance'. It obviously won't sell 5 million copies like 'The Dance' did, but it should eventually sell above 300,000 in the U.S. and having been a follower of the U.K charts for some time now, it will definitely sell well there as in the last year they haven't had a week where they haven't had an album within the top 100 which is not really seen with any other artists. I predict a #1 placing in the U.K. and a top 3 placing in the U.S. depending on the release date and the success of the tour and Stevie's album. If there is good promotion and Stevie's album does well (top 10) I have no doubt that it would make the #1 spot in the U.S.

In the same interview I referenced above, Lindsey also said (in regards to finishing this tour, finishing the album and then touring again), "So it becomes sort of a long-term plan, so we're all very excited about that."

He didn't say a few of them. He didn't say some of them. He said they are all excited.

Stevie may have been reluctant to record as a foursome, but we really have no reason to assume she's still reluctant now that Christine is back.

As PenguinHead pointed out, Christine re-joining seems to have come as a surprise to all of them. And Lindsey's comments (as well as comments from both Mick & Christine) imply that this is not just going to be a one-off reunion. They have longterm plans.

So it seems that Stevie had solo obligations she needed to focus on this year, in order to make herself available for everything else that's still to come with Fleetwood Mac. I think the way '24 Karat Gold' was fast-tracked, is a good example that she's committed to doing that.

Agreed. I see no reason why Stevie would fast-track 24 Karat Gold if she were not planning a long-term commitment to Fleetwood Mac over the next several years.

Why are people saying that 'Silver Springs' reached #41 on the Hot 100? It only ever reached #5 on the 'Adult Contemporary' chart and #22 on the 'Adult Pop Songs' chart. That is on Billboard.com so that should be accurate. If somebody thinks that it did, please provide evidence because I am very interested in chart info.

 yeah, i don't necessarily believe it either, but that's what they said at the time, in some of their interviews . if you want to know more i'm sure you can find that info by some googling or a search here.

anyway, it's interesting to see this old chart info of their more recent releases. i do hope you and all the optimists here are right, and we will get a nice coherent FM album some time soon, with all band members firmly behind it.

personally, i choose to set my expectations low, which means i will probably in the end be happier with the results than most of you. :D (same as i love many of the SYW and EP tracks, and that's enough for me. ;)) from all we know so far, there will probably be at least 2 if not 3 different producers involved in the new album, for tracks recordings spread over at least 2-3 years - Mitchell Froom for Lindsey's 2012 tracks, Lindsey for Christine's tracks they worked on March-April 2014, and we have no idea who will produce Stevie's tracks. so i don't see any indication that the new album will be any more cohesive than the albums people are so critical of - SYW or EP, both of which were recorded in several separate sessions, with several different producers.
