I wish all superstars were this cool."

[photos and captions are great, the only thing is, his hero's name is spelled Lindsey]

maybe EOTS are actually working on a new album now? in this RS article it seemed to have been unclear few months ago http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/empire-of-the-sun-say-new-album-is-on-gods-timetable-20140408
or maybe LB was just over there jamming and hanging out. who knows.

Is that William on his left side? ( for us right)
Could it be one of his favorite bands?

is it me or does Linds just look so much smaller these days?? In the old days (70s for sure) he seemed like such a big guy-- not husky but TALL… he'd stand next to Mick and not seem much shorter and Mick is well over 6 feet. Maybe it was all that hair then, and his platform sandals and all? But even in the Tusk era, with the hair shorn off, he still seemed tall. Nowadays he seems much shorter and even in this pic it's like his shoulders seem small and perhaps even a little frail. If that's his son on his left, the kid looks a lot bigger than LB. Ah, age gets us all.

Lindsey's shoulders are a problem. The concave, sunken aspect ages him, in still photos like this. In concert when he's moving around, it's not an issue. His shoulders are older than 64.

He's a pretty average-height but very thin man. In person he seems so much smaller in every way. But I say average height because he has sort of a little slouch/stoop that might make him seem shorter. But I'm pretty certain his son is larger than him. And even when Linds was younger and on the swim team, he may have been more buff than now but he was still a pretty slender guy.
Will must take after Lindsey's dad. I've seen pics of him and he seemed more large/buff. Well, more than Lindsey for sure.

It caught me off guard one time when he didn't have a jacket on. This was probably a year ago. So I just started keeping an eye on any pics of him that came up. In every photo, he has a jacket on. I noticed it again when watching the video of him with his dogs, on his bed. You can see it a bit there. It's not a bad thing at all, and doesn't change my thoughts of him at all (I would not be offended if he arrived naked in my bedroom, for instance), but I started wondering if that was why he ALWAYS wears a jacket.

yeah, he used to always take off his jacket for the encores during his solo shows. not so the last 2 tours (except that one time in Seattle when he was in a t-shirt the whole show (really skinny!). so i was wondering the same - what's with the jacket, and people kept yelling at shows to take it off, and he'd throw back remarks about sweating even naked.
i'm assuming this is what you are referring to:

You're right, I had exactly the same thought on why he sweats to death but leaves the jacket on. I think it must be an aging thing, I've noticed it on other once-buff older men.

What I noticed is his stomach when his t-shirt comes up. His stomach is not fat by any means, but it's a little more fleshy than you'd expect, since he's small and so active. But I guess he doesn't do any ab exercises. As for breasts, it doesn't look to me like I could pinch an inch.

yeah he's average height, about 5'10"-5'11" maybe, but a pretty tiny, skinny guy. he seems in a really good shape, but unlike many younger guys i can't imagine he'd be doing something like lifting weights - which his kid might easily be doing.

I remember Vanessa Carlton thanked Lindsey on her one album and mentioned something about him being a yogi. So perhaps that is one of his exercises of choice, aside from swimming and being a complete non-stop machine on stage. So he has that long/leaner physique that I always associate with people who do yoga and/or swim.

It does fit like a nightgown in that particular photo. The way the sweat makes it cling there is unfortunate. But overall, I don't think it was bad. It's just a normal t=shirt, no special cut and no tailored waist or bodice:laugh: . The only bad part was that he wore it the whole tour and considered it a "costume" (as revealed when he talked about SNL). It would have been nice if he had switched up.
Michele
Ok I will admit these visuals aren't the most flattering of Linds, but I feel like it's all relative in photograph. Lindsey is such an angular, small-built guy that any extra pound is probably noticeable- particularly when he chooses to wear these basic-looking, loose-fitting/non-fitted items. I have expressed for years how I feel about his fashion choices. Shoot, I even made a thread on it somewhere (though most of my little pictures disappeared).
I feel deeply that Lindsey is such a singular, epic talent that his looks and/or style are so superfluous to what matters most. But the fact that he's such a handsome guy and could do SO much better in his outfit choices but seems to have an undying affection for Hanes, well, I get a little sad.
Bruce Springsteen is the same age as him and Bruce just gets it with his style. But you can't win them all I guess...
Lindsey is still an amazingly good-looking old git and powerful in ever way on that stage. So he can get it regardless of his fashion fails.

you know it's funny, I was watching an interview recently with Paul Stanley (from Kiss..he's hyping a book) and he said something like "make no mistake about it, guys on stage in torn jeans and teeshirts are wearing a costume just as much as I am" and explained that you know, they are rich and make millions and live in mansions but are perpetuating the myth that they are still the same struggling musicians they were before. That it's all about a deliberate creation of an image.

Seinfeld often remarked that the others got into wardrobe for the show and he did too. He took off his own jeans, sneakers and sweater and put on another set of almost identical jeans, sneakers and sweater. He couldn't explain fully why he bothered to change, but it was part of the process of performing.
Of course, the problem in FM is Lindsey doesn't bother to change enough.

And it's kind of funny considering just HOW much money he has. Didn't Stevie once say he made the most because he got a producer's cut? (now that might mean he made most on FM albums; one would have to think she's made more overall due to the success of her solo career. Still, he ain't hurting. Buy a new freaking shirt)

i do think he swims in money... but i wonder how can someone get a producer's cut if they are not listed as a producer? you don't get the cut just because everybody says you were de facto producer. their biggest selling album by far was Rumours and he was not listed as a producer there, it was the whole band so they'd all get the same cut, right?
i guess he was listed as a producer on Mirage, Tango and SYW?
then, there are royalty cuts songwriters get. i'm guessing there SN must have made by far the most with Landslide. although Don't Stop must have made tons for Christine, as well as her Tango hits. GYOW probably made tons for LB, as well as HR.

and he seems not to have blown (no pun intended) as much on coke as Stevie, or Mick. And his grasp of the business side of show business seems pretty good, and likely he has maximized his income and his investments over the years (sold that house for almost 20 million!!). You could say that about Stevie too. At some point in her progression she became allergic to color. How many versions of black dresses can you have? Her minimal varients are almost as limited as Linsdey's white tee-shirts. Only on a rare occasion, like a sighting of Big Foot, does she bust out a dress that isn't black. I still can't over the fact that she chose to wear a white, bride-like dress to Mick Fleetwood's wedding. What the hell was she thinking?
That is why I love photos from the era 1975-1982. Their clothes were visually more diverse and interesting, with much more color and style.
Look at the recent photo in the promotion for their upcoming tour. All of them are dressed in black! They almost look an old biker gang. It's harsh and overdone.

I think it says something along the lines of "Produced by Ken Caillat, Richard Dashut and Fleetwood Mac, with special thanks to Lindsey Buckingham" on the earlier albums, so he might get a cut for that?

I always think of what Cory said about having to tape up his boots. He goes on the road with 20 guitars and no spare shoes. Even when I'm not traveling, I keep both a pair of flats and a spare pair of heels at the office, just in case.

well, they are still - and over and over :p - making the most money off of Rumours though, where he was not officially a producer or even getting "special thanks".

yeah but he does have different shoes (or slip-ons, flip-flops, or whatever) for walking around when he's off the stage that you see in all the candids people post. just his "stage boots" had broken zipper... guess they are a part of the "costume" but i would also think important to be comfortable with all that running around he does on the stage. as soon as he's off the stage, i think even maybe for after show m&gs, he immediately has different shoes on.

You'd think he'd have a back up costume boot as well. Alternate them so that both (or all) pairs get broken in and are comfortable.
Think of Tusk as his compensation for Rumours and be happy.
Despite the conflicts, Buckingham was the major force behind "Rumours." "His contribution to the album was tremendous," confirms Richard Dashut. "If any one person had the most to do with the production and the arranging and the inspiration, it was Lindsey." Although Fleetwood Mac is listed as the producer, along with Dashut, Ken Caillat and Cris Morris, Buckingham now says, "I can't figure out why I didn't ask for production credit."

Carol said she got $2000 a month for three years. She said she signed away her rights to a fortune -- which is untrue. She wasn't getting half of his wealth if you look at what happened in the Michelle Triola Marvin case for precedent. The common law wife thing doesn't work in California. So, she could have sued him all she wanted and come up with nothing.
But Lindsey deeded houses to Cheri and to his family members, like Daryl, his brother's widow, and his mom.

That was funny in Destiny Rules when Lindsey is rhapsodizing about -- [was it Ridley Scott?? or another filmmaker] -- Ridley Scott's austerity and Mick says nothing and then when Lindsey leaves the room Mick mocks Lindsey to Ray and says, Lindsey knows that Lindsey won't ever have to live in a two room apartment. Ray kind of laughs.

LB referenced Todd Solondz and said his work wasn't going to make millions but it was adding more to the artistic world than say Ridley Scott ever would.
I love that Mick called him out (indirectly) by saying LB most certainly *would* be devastated if the Mac album only sold a few hundred thousand, and that Lindsey could talk about a guy living in a tiny apartment in Pocoima because Lindsey won't ever and knows he won't ever have to live in such a place. Which I think is very true-- Lindsey romanticizes the whole 'artist sacrificing commerce for art' yet has untold millions in the bank and will never really have to put his money where his mouth is.

I think it says something along the lines of "Produced by Ken Caillat, Richard Dashut and Fleetwood Mac, with special thanks to Lindsey Buckingham" on the earlier albums, so he might get a cut for that?
the band being listed as producers means they all got a cut. The special thanks may or may not mean that LB got a different percentage than the rest of the band. Though from past comments by LB he may well not have-- he has commented about begin rather pissed by the "special thanks" and not a full production credit.

And she said he spent a lot less too than they did. As Mick said, Lindsey only needs a nice car and some jeans. But that was before he had a family. Kristen and the kids' expenses probably make up for the years he didn't spend anything.

yes, I think we've discussed this on a past thread once-- all that living at the Four Seasons with the wife and kid adds up. And building that big ass new house on the hill. And financing the wife's decorating business. And paying (I'm assuming) the tuition for nieces and nephews and such...

I always think of what Cory said about having to tape up his boots. He goes on the road with 20 guitars and no spare shoes. Even when I'm not traveling, I keep both a pair of flats and a spare pair of heels at the office, just in case.

Maybe he's superstitious about his road costume.. like baseball players and the like who, when on a winning streak, never change their socks or wash their shirts and all that sort of silliness.
Sorry, I would have put all of these comments into one reply if I were talented enough to know how to do multiple quotes in one reply. Yikes. :(

i do think he swims in money... but i wonder how can someone get a producer's cut if they are not listed as a producer? you don't get the cut just because everybody says you were de facto producer. their biggest selling album by far was Rumours and he was not listed as a producer there, it was the whole band so they'd all get the same cut, right?
i guess he was listed as a producer on Mirage, Tango and SYW?
then, there are royalty cuts songwriters get. i'm guessing there SN must have made by far the most with Landslide. although Don't Stop must have made tons for Christine, as well as her Tango hits. GYOW probably made tons for LB, as well as HR.
The producer's cut does tend to follow whoever is named as the producer, but ultimately it follows whatever the contract says in terms of the appropriation of "points." Points can be appropriated to whomever and in whatever amounts that the interested parties are willing to accept.
There's a very interesting and very brief video done by the late "Left Eye" of TLC in which she explains how a bad contract can leave an artist broke even after selling 10 million+ albums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E92q9pYnaYo
Lindsey received 100% of the writers cut for GYOW, Big Love, Tusk, Oh Diane, Trouble and Peacekeeper, 50% of the writers cut for Family Man, and 20% of the writers cut for The Chain, along with all of the non single cuts that inevitably got a fair amount of airplay. Remember as well that he got all royalties from the licensing of any of his songs, including recent projects like two songs being used in Elizabethtown and three songs being used in This Is 40. It adds up.

I once read that Steve Jobs wore the same thing everyday so he could focus on more important things. Not sure that is necessary to preserve "brain power," but that could be the justification. I actually like that he wears a different "uniform" for each tour - it is usually easy to pinpoint what tour a photo is from by the outfit he is wearing. Although there are only so many shades of black (or is that gray?).

Yes, it's easy to tell what tour it was, but hard to tell one tour date from the other, within a single tour. All of the pictures look identical. But that's not just Lindsey. It's all of them. Even if John and Mick changed things up, it would help us to say what date it was, when we looked at the group bows.
