Why?
First of all, the parent is playing psychological games with the child. Intentionally setting up the child to lie. Making the child come up with excuse after excuse, digging himself deeper and deeper in lies (which surely causes anxiety). Only to then reveal that she (the presumed mother) knew the whole time he was lying but wanted to show him that she enjoys making him squirm. This can establish very dangerous psychological processes that could be ruinous for the child's maturation. One might say that's just bad parenting.
Then it goes into full-blown abuse by virtue of putting this sick mind game on the internet! for others to see!! I can't even imagine how that might further impact this child already caught in a horrible cycle of unhealthy responses to power figures. Totally exploitative and disgusting. I hope someone with sense in the family or a family friend or spiritual adviser intervenes.

Oh good grief, you are ridiculous.
Send the video to authorities with your complaint - I'm sure they'll have a hearty laugh.

I never said anything about the incident being illegal. I said that I wished a friend of the family would intervene. If I were such a person, I certainly would. That you find my concern ridiculous couldn't mean less to me.

I too felt really uncomfortable watching how the mother spoke to the child, but I am particularly sensitive about this kind of thing. I hate seeing parents speaking down to a child in a condescending way, so I really felt for this kid. Its interesting to hear other peoples reactions.

Totally. Today, I found Prince's SIGN O THE TIMES movie (the best movie of 1987) on the web. And there are lots of other movies not available on DVD that I've found online. Also someday I plan on watching all the Barbara Parkins Peyton Place clips on YouTube.

Yeah. I definitely think our society has to set up some ground rules for putting children doing funny things out there on the internet unbeknownst to them. We're just not there yet unfortunately, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I guess we need some of these kids to grow up and speak their own minds about it. Personally I get irked whenever my mum shows a picture of me doing something a bit odd when I was a kid to others. So I can't imagine what I'd think of something like this happening to me.
I do think "child abuse" is a pretty extreme and basically inaccurate assessment. But I can certainly see where TrueFaith's concern stems from.
To add to this thread, though. my favourite thing on youtube is Miranda Sings
