View Full Version : Stevie is @ the Grammy's

Nancy O'Dell just talked to her on the Red Carpet from the Grammy's. Stevie said that she didn't know she was coming until two days ago! I didn't catch who she said she was with though. I was shocked, wasn't expecting that! A good shocked though.:]

Yeah, isn't that her tour outfit?

Remember those beautiful gowns she wore for the Walden Woods concerts, or the elegant clothes she wore when she attended those horse races in Australia? You're at the Grammy's, Stevie, don't you want to look smashing and turn heads?

I agree, I feel like someone should say to her before she walks out of the house "stevie, really, take a minute to care". I think it just became too much effort to look like a goddess. Also, I am so sick of those stupid aviator glasses. They are horrible and someone needs to tell her she looks "special needs" when she wears them. (Not to offend anyone who may be special needs, but seriously she looks the part). I keep hoping someone loves her enough to tell her instead of listening to Karen who probably tells her she looks smashing in them.

Stevie isn't seated with her. Lindsey is performing with Dave Grohl, so more than likely she is there with them.

I'm pretty sure she's sitting behind Lindsey.

Apparently she came as Doug Morris' date.

He is, as of a year or two ago. But he used to work with Atlantic records and then Warner and also Universal.

I have little interest in clothes/fashion. But seeing Stevie at the Grammy award show essentially in her stage outfit is rather alarming. Does that not seem just a tad odd? She has always been an eccentric, but wtf? I wish she would drop the all-black/leather/dominatrix garb, and those ridiculous glasses. It's tired, overdone and not attractive anymore. Is she allergic to color?

It's funny how out of touch the media is when they describe her image, clothes and style. They are unaware that the image of Stevie they are talking about hasn't existed for years. I would describe her style as lazy monotone black drab. I'm calling the fashion police and have Stevie arrested for violations to her image.

I wouldn't mind if she wore her Rhiannon dress or something. In fact I would LOVE it if she'd wear the dress from The Dance special. But she's just wearing her interview clothes over, and Over, and OVER AGAIN!
And this shirt has to be the worst she's ever picked. I'm sorry but it does ZERO for her figure.:distress: Her arms look huge in it, it flattens her chest, and it makes her almost look pregnant.
Stevie honey, if you're watching this, I love you like a sister. I think you're the most beautiful talented singer on the face of the planet. But PLEASE! CHANGE YOUR WARDROBE!:sorry:

Can't embed right now but one of Stevie's red carpet interviews turned up on YouTube awhile ago: http://youtu.be/eG-ymkK2ko0

She covers;
- FM touring to begin end of summer
- Looking forward to AHS finale and TWO tours next year
- Spending next four months doing 'different stuff' (as opposed to touring, in context)
- Dancing down the hall in the morning and having no one to see her but her dog who's going 'Go, Mom!'
- Raving about Dave Grohl and possibility of doing short tour with him and his grunge band at some point in future

Just out of curiosity, have any of y'all seen Stevie in these outfits in person? I have, and she's quite stunning in them. I was probably 10 feet away from her at South by Southwest here in Austin, and let me tell you, she looked hotter than women 1/3 her age. I love the shoulder cutouts... it's a very sensual look. The rouched pants look better with her rouched shirt/skirt she wore at SXSW, but it's still a nice combo here. I actually think she looks better in these getups than anything she's worn onstage in the past 15 years. To me, it's her stage attire that's hopelessly awful. :(

Regarding the aviators... they look really good in person, but awful in pictures. She needs to ditch them for sure. I'm ok with the leather & chain gloves for the Grammy's, though... they're very rock & roll. :D

She looks great for any age. She's a stunning beauty. And I agree about her wearing black. She's Stevie Nicks. She's worn mostly nothing but black for the past 4 decades. It's very much a part of her image & persona. The whole witchy woman thing. She looks silly in creams & pastels. Bring on the black!

I'm so used to seeing Stevie in black, pants or otherwise, it doesn't really matter to me. As long as she's comfortable. You see these celebrities sometimes in these skin-tight outfits & you think yeah, they look nice, but that can't be comfortable. How do they sit down? But I did like Katie Perry's dress, not a big fan of hers, but I did like the dress.

I think she looks amazing. Right before The Grammys aired, AXS TV was airing the Live in Boston concert. My partner (who is not into Stevie/Mac) looked at the pictures of Stevie at The Grammys and mentioned how much better she looked than she did on the concert broadcast. He totally did not believe me when I told him the concert was 10 years ago.
(and I really dig the aviators. I think it looks really old school rock and roll.)

This reminds me of watching Stevie and Lady Antebellum. My friend was saying how much hotter Stevie looked than Hillary Scott. Now, I realize that Hillary was pregnant at the time, so it wasn't quite fair and he said, "I know. That's why I'm not judging Hillary's body, but even Stevie's face looks so much better than Hillary's and Stevie is 30 years older."

Perry, who is nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Roar," said her performance tonight was inspired by a certain musical icon and current guest star of FX's American Horror Story: Coven.

"I was hanging out with Stevie Nicks, that's why I was late," she told Ryan. "Actually my performance is kind of inspired by her. Let's just say one of my favorite lines, ‘Which witch is which?' It's very spooky. It's very dark."

I gotta agree with this. The top minimizes her bustline and makes her look like she's got a big stomach..like she's got that classic "apple" shape. She doesn't. Not sure about the sleeves... as we age we want to hide our flabby upper arms but I think the sleeve fails her in this. She's still amazing for 65. The thing with the glasses is it seems like the bridge of the nose is too wide so that when you look at her her eyes (the pupils) are too much in the inner corner of each lense rather than more in the middle. She's petite and those frames look made for a bigger face. (clearly with how much she wears them now they're not just a fashion accessory, she needs them to see).

Doug Morris was one of what she's referred to as her "champions" in the whole Warners' organization since her solo days.

I'm sure designers would kill to dress Stevie. But Stevie doesn't like to change, you know that. The black chiffon is comfortable, elastic, and slimming. I think in this respect Stevie probably wishes she were more like the men, not having to worry about being judged by her clothes and appearance.

If she wore that same top with a beautiful long chiffon skirt (which she has hundreds of) I think the whole thing would flow better and look more graceful. But,yes, she still looks amazing at 65 and I'm very glad she's out and about. Her comments about the upcoming year are intriguing. I wonder what she'll be up to.

Stevie has dressed better than this in practically every public appearance she made in 2013. Just close your eyes and pick one at random and her outfit looked loads better than that top from last night does.

So, I don't say her entire wardrobe needs an overhaul. I know she has some great pieces in it. Just that particular blouse needs to be thrown out.

Not to be off topic, but I honestly didn't see anything remotely similar to Stevie Nicks in Katy's grammy performance. Lmao since when has Stevie Nicks ever wore something "appropriate' for the Grammys or any other public appearance? She is Stevie Nicks, she sure as hell didn't get where she is by wearing what everyone else thought she should wear. She doesn't need some Gucci get up to get her noticed or give her stature. I dont get the E channel no more .I would like to hear the comments from the E channels Fashion Police have to say about Stevie.

Is Joan Rivers and her daughter still doing the show?

Yes, Joan Rivers does the show with 3 co-hosts and Melissa produces it. It's on for an hour tonight, but I don't think they will mention Stevie.

That wouldn't really work, imo, because then she'd really have no shape. If you're wearing a long flowy skirt, you can't also wear a long flowy skirt.. you have to have something sinched in at the waist (like her old leotards, or now her corsets I guess) w/ a skirt like that, and you have to have something tight on the legs with a shirt like that (like her leggings). Otherwise you just look like a blob.

Not to be off topic, but I honestly didn't see anything remotely similar to Stevie Nicks in Katy's grammy performance. Her performance was really dark and sorta sacrilege-like with the red cross and stuff.:sorry: The whole thing seemed more like Ozzy Osbourne. Whereas Stevie always has beautiful fairytale imagery. It actually seemed to be the opposite of Stevie Nicks.

Well, I agree with you... but most people just associate Stevie with witches in general. If it's witchy and black and flowy, it's Stevie Nicks.

However, to Katy's credit, she did have on very Rhiannon-esque chiffon long sleeves in the beginning which she later removed.

I got curious about Doug Morris and did a quick Google search.

Found this interesting article that talks to and about Stevie a little bit. How he nurtured her through the making of Bella Donna, Jimmy Iovine, and how to get the album from #3 to #1 on Billboard he pimped her out one night. Ok, I exaggerate that part, but it does say the album was #3 and he took her to dinner with a writer from Billboard and then, whaddayaknow, her album went to #1. The author of *this* article clearly implies that Morris knew that would do the trick.

In 1980, Morris was named president of Atlantic. He applied his new skills to stars like Nicks, whom he signed as a solo artist. He called her every day as she was recording Bella Donna, her first record. When things didn’t go well with her producer, Morris recruited 26-year-old Jimmy Iovine, who’d worked on records with Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. Nicks was ecstatic when Bella Donna reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts. “In numerology, three is the number of the creative, of the beginning, the child,” she says. It wasn’t enough for Morris, though. He took Nicks, possibly the most alluring woman in rock ’n’ roll at the time, out to dinner with a writer from Billboard. One week later, her album went to No. 1.

I've heard this story before, but I wonder how many people actually believe it. Billboard magazine is the top trade publication in the industry, and its credibility is critical for the business. It's been reporting on radio and music since the 1920s (after being founded in the 1890s ), and if this sort of thing really went on, well....I would expect there would be other stories besides Stevie's 1981 album. Has anyone else heard any?

Yes, you can't just falsify sales and radio airplay results to put whatever you want at #1. This writer had bosses he had to report to, didn't he? Also, a writer probably worked in an entirely different department than the people in charge of Billboard chart stats .

It would make more sense to say people bribed radio station execs and djs (which we know did happen in the past) or, later, bribed the person in charge of rotation at MTV to help their album sales, but I honestly don't think a Billboard writer could get you number one on the charts.

She can wear the same clothes she wore yesterday and still have everyone on the red carpet in the palm of her hand because she's just that damn good.

I wouldn't suggest Gucci , but a younger designer with a fresh approach to her ,maybe just to dress up the "KARL LAGERFELD" fingerless gloves

The magazine has regained its mojo in the last five years. It went through a period where it lost some credibility because of the silly rules they were making up (e.g. a song can't chart without a commercial single, a rule that existed for 10 years and then was abandoned). They were also very late to start tracking sales from digital media.

Yes. The comparison to Stevie was lazy, IMO. And probably prompted more by how many times people read her being described as "witchy" than any actual consideration of her body of work. Although I find Ozzy/Marilyn comparisons problematic in about the same way. To me it was just kind of a "meh" performance all around, but I enjoyed the spectacle. I think Katy was just trying to invoke Stevie to be friendly, but it was a bit forced.

Out of pure curiosity, why is a red cross sacrelige? I'm a nonreligious person and just honestly didn't know it was.

As for the outfit, she looks fine. Not great. But it was obvious she had short notice and really just wanted to project her persona at a mainstream event, rather than do anything fashion-forward or particularly exciting. I don't really see the big deal, but I appreciate the fans desire to have her always look amazing/interesting. It's just not particularly important to me, as someone who plans his outfits about 2 minutes before going anywhere.

Why do we need Stevie to share our opinions on everything? She has historically liked all kinds of things that I consider crap. Has anyone actually sat down and watched that old Beauty and the Beast film, or Wide Sargasso Sea? Or slept with Joe Walsh? I don't see why our differing opinions on these things should bother me as a fan.

Regarding the state of the music industry today vs. yesteryear, that's difficult to quantify. We have selective memories that can deceive us. IMO the music industry has been full of insubstantial crap since it became an "industry" in the first place.

yay! I think her outfits really suit her and are flattering. She wears what she feels comfortable in, and doesn't give a f*ck what people think. Black might seem boring, but it seems to suit her and takes years off her. She looks incredible for 65! :woohoo:

I totally agree that she looks stunning and she's glowing.

On one hand I think it is so cool that she doesn't care the least what others think or wear, she does her own thing and it works perfectly for her. She seems comfortable and that adds to her beauty opposed to feeling uncomfortable in something that is not "her".

On the other hand it would be nice to see her in something else that we have not seen her wear 25 times before. I think she looks great in the dress she's wearing on the cover of the IYD album. I also like the black dress she had own while touring with Tom Petty.

I know that she is super loyal to her people and would probably not ask anyone but Margie to design clothes for her, but I would LOVE to see someone like Elie Saab design something for her. Something black, something lace, something chic yet rock n' roll and I bet it would be something that would definately flatter her figure.

Its hard to explain. One of the things is that she's wearing it over a somewhat revealing outfit. The other thing people are saying is that it resembles the cross of the Knights Templar, a group of nights who protected the Holy Land during the Crusades. But some say they secretly worshipped demons and did sacrilegious acts. I don't believe they did, but interpreting a group with that kind o history is.. well...

Illuminati symbolism everywhere ... horrible.

You're joking right?

Even if you're not, I'm laughing.

The state of the music industry today is the worst it has ever been.

See, now that's funny, because at age 40, I'm hearing - and buying - some of the best music that I think has ever been recorded during my lifetime. I would say that while sales are at the lowest they've been, it's because of technology that can never be reversed and because of poor promotional decisions (like streaming albums before they are released - or streaming them *at all*). It has nothing to do with the quality of the music or the state of the industry.

That anyone cares about the Knights Templar, depite being a defunct organization for 700 years, is plain silly. There are so many *real* issues in our world that need to be addressed - things that actually matter - the color of an outfit or the symbols on it or the superstitions people have about them don't matter. It's 2014. Hunger, pollution, poverty, privacy - these things matter.

The Knights were slandered. All those rumours about them were concocted by the King of France because the Knights refused to give him a loan. His nation was broke from too many wars. The Knights were a rich organization, indeed. He got permission from the Pope to disband the Knights and confiscate their property. 702 years ago.

The only thing about the Knights that is still relevant, and always will be, is the age old truth that if if someone has money, there's always going to be someone else who wants it.

Just me?

I've not played it. But I like fantasy games with knights and swords.

While I find conspiracies fascinating, people watching the Grammy's for signs of Illuminati or Knights Templar seems like a ludicrous hobby.

Click here for laughs. http://gawker.com/5886988/a-comprehensive-guide-to-the-illuminati-the-conspiracy-theory-that-connects-jay+z-and-queen-elizabeth

Because of course, anyone rich must be in the same private club. Satanic rich folk like Madonna, The Pope, George Bush, Obama, Beyonce and the Anti-Christ. Yes - the Pope and The Anti-Christ are in the same secret handshake club  And Stevie Nicks, obviously, must also be an Illuminati since her and Katy are new BFFs. :p

A hilarious excerpt:

But how will the Illuminati possibly pull off their plan for secret world domination if they're constantly advertising their own existence?
Hey! Did I tell you about Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show?
Ooh, no, tell me.
It was obviously a Satantic ritual. The color scheme was red and black. She had horns on her helmet. The show happened within 48 hours of the full moon. Her male dancers formed a pyramid, a Masonic symbol. It ended with the phrase "World Peace" — as in, "New World Order Peace." And LMFAO was there.
LMFAO is Illuminati?
Can you think of any other reason for their success?
But why would the Illuminati hold a Satanic ritual during the biggest television even of the year?
To celebrate the upcoming assassination of Whitney Houston.
The Illuminati killed Whitney Houston? But... why?
For two reasons: one, to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, and two, to make room in the Illuminati for Blue Ivy Carter.

Where are the Saudi Princes? Bill Gates? The *real* wealthy and powerful? That French woman who heads up the IMF? I have a hard time believing that any organization which controls the world would include Rihanna in their ranks, but not Oprah Winfrey.

I also wonder why, if Madonna is a member, she has not used that power and influence to get her songs played on the radio since 2003.

70′s icon Stevie Nicks looking very casual and very coven at the grammy’s! I wish she used her magic spells to spruce herself a bit for the occasion.

So besides the Stevie thing, did any of you guys make a good discovery from the Grammys. I did KACEY MUSGRAVES. I downloaded her album and love it. SAME TRAILER, DIFFERENT PARK. And Merry Go Round is a great country song.

Downloaded Queens of the Stone Age latest- Like Clockwork.. also, I think I love Josh Homme.

I wish she would stop with the face stuff. :distress:

I understand the pressure celebrity women face to stay youthful, but I always hoped Madonna would be immune to that pressure.

After Tori Amos destroyed her own face, I just can't see these procedures in a good way.

I was hoping that Madonna, being that punk girl at heart, would scoff at ever getting work done. But it seems pretty apparent these days. The sad thing is that the plastic surgery that people have done early in their career only becomes more apparent as they get older. The face naturally changes shape as you get older so the plastic surgery only intensifies that effect. The pressure to stay young in Hollywood must be something that you can only truly appreciate if you're in that industry.

I think Stevie looked great, and what she wore was fine. She's never been a 'red carpet' kind of star, and when has she ever been the type to wear pretentious and sparkly over-priced designer gowns? Never that I can remember. As well, she would have looked ridiculous had she shown up in any of her more elaborate stage clothes.

I know some are tired of her look, but Stevie strikes me as the type to put comfort over glamour, and frankly I get it. If I were going to the Grammy awards, and I was told I had to wear a suit - forget it - I'd rather not go than be stuffed into some uncomfortable getup that I'd never choose to wear. Give me jeans and a hoodie, and I'm there. Clearly, what we see Stevie wearing so often is her version of jeans and a hoodie.

You're joking right?

Even if you're not, I'm laughing.

Hi Karma,

I know it's easy to assume that I was referring to Beyonce's performance when I said "Illuminati symbolism everywhere." I actually didn't mean her particular performance at the Grammy's, I meant the bulk of the music videos and performances I've seen the past few years. I was just blowing off steam at how disgusted I am with commercial / mainstream music today. I don't profess to know all there is to know about why these artists are using these symbols but, there is no denying that they are. There are people that buy into conspiracies, and some that roll their eyes at it. The only reason why conspiracy theories even come into play is that, question go unanswered. So again, there is no denying that many of the artist today are using these symbols in their artwork and videos, and the question is, why? If it doesn't mean what a lot of people think it means, then why all of a sudden has their been a surge? They are doing it for a reason. Heck, even Celine Dion is doing it. Just look at her official lyric video for "Loved Me Back To Life", it is there. So every time I read someone say there is no conspiracy, next thing I see is yet another new video or song with these symbolism's.

Also, if you are buying some of the best music that you feel is being made in your lifetime, please share who they are, because the bulk of what is played on the radio are Pitbull, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, LG, etc ... I'd like to know who you are buying. Seriously, I'm curious.

I know this question wasn't asked of me but just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. There is a ton of new music released this Century that I love immensely. So many songs to love. But it's all a matter of taste. I grew up on classic rock but I don't want to listen to music from 30 years ago on a daily basis. I want music that is new. NEW NEW NEW!!!!

No problem Viv ... I asked Karma because I really am curious. I'm probably missing out on some great music so I'd like to know who people are listening to. As a DJ, I love club music but, not what is being promoted today. What the "kids" want to hear are the same thing they can hear anytime on the radio. If I never play another Beyonce, LG, KP, Bruno video/song again, it will be too soon. However, there is some wonderful house music being made today that still retains that soulful, joyous and vibrant sound that I loved so much in the 90's. I don't want to be stuck in the past but, the house music that came from that era is the best so, I'm glad to know that there are DJ's (old and new) still making that kind of music.

-Miguel Migs
-Steve "Silk" Hurley
-Myles Bigelow
-Sean McCable
-Joey Negro

Just to name a few. That is the music I prefer to play.

I also agree with a comment that Sinead O'Connor made recently about, rock and roll being dead. "They are murdering rock and roll. The power to move people and to change things is dying." I don't think she means just the rock and roll genre, but any type of music that comes from an organic place. You just don't hear a lot of that anymore. Back in the 70's and 80's, we knew who the singer songwriters were and we knew who the "fluff" artists were. Today, almost any artists that comes out is promoted as a true talent. Everyone is a signer / songwriter now. Not!

Thanks for replying. I actually *love* conspiracies, so I wasn't making fun of you. Some of them are laughable, but still fun! The Illuminati is particualr are interesting because of the vast reach of membership, depending on who you talk to. It's hilarious to me that The Pope and Rihanna would be in the same secret-organization-that-controls-the-world.

Radio really blows, for sure. Bruno Mars isn't terrible, but I don't have any of his music. I really wish some billionaire would start up a new radio station in a huge market and show everyone that music doesn't really suck.

I know everyone has varying tastes, but some of the artists that I'm really into right now (when I'm not listening to Madonna, who I've been obsessed with out of the blue) are Vampire Weekend, Franz Ferdinand, Neko Case, Kid Cudi, Kasabian, James Morrison, Haim, The Limousines, The Black Keys, Gin Wigmore, San Cisco - I don't hear any of these artists on the radio, at least not on any of the Denver market stations, and it makes me feel that radio is pretty gross and very misleading when it comes to representing the quality of pop music today. There's really a lot of great stuff out there, and I can't understand why everytime I turn on the radio, I'm hearing what is, arguably, some of the least interesting music I've ever heard - *especially* in the Dance genre. It's gotta be hard to DJ in a club right now.

Not to say that it's *all bad*. P!nk is a favorite of mine, and she gets very good radio exposure. Even Katy Perry isn't awful, but she is vastly over-represented in the radio market. Who decides these things? The best thing that could happen to music, and especially radio right now, is to hire actual DJs again, and allow them to choose what they play. Until that happens, and as long as radio is only playing the same Corp. playlists nationwide, the perception that pop music has nothing interesting to offer will persist.

Edit: Also, I would suggest you check out the Steve Hoffman record forums. http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/forums/music-corner.2/ It has hundreds of very active posters who love to talk about any and every genre of music. Everytime I think I've heard it all, there's someone else listing off a dozen of their favorites I've never even heard of.

Something Else Reviews January 30, 2014

http://somethingelsereviews.com/2014/01/30/one-of-the-best-times-of-my-life-fleetwood-macs-stevie-nicks-is-hoping-to-tour-with-dave-grohl/

Stevie Nicks’ plate, already filled with Fleetwood Mac, solo projects and an acting job on American Horror Story, would be piled still higher if she had her way. Nicks says she’d love to play some concerts with Dave Grohl.

Nicks appeared in the 2013 Sound City documentary, and has occasionally sat in with Grohl as part of his Sound City Players supergroup. Performances included some late-night television stops and a few dates in conjunction with the film.

“I’m hoping that, at some point, that Dave Grohl and his grunge army, I’m hoping that maybe we can go and do a small tour — because we had so much fun when we went out and did all of the film festivals,” Nicks tells CBS’ Chris Booker. “We did five shows, and it was just fantastic. It was one of the best times of my life.”

The always-working Nicks also confirms not one, but two different tours planned for the coming year. One, presumably, would involve Fleetwood Mac, which is getting together with Christine McVie again after a 15-year haitus. Apart from that five-person reunion jaunt, another Nicks tour would perhaps involve some solo shows.

How does Nicks keep it up, more than four decades into her career?

“If I was doing something else that I didn’t love, I think I would be a lot older,” Nick says. “If you find that passion, I can pretty much guarantee you that you can be 65, and still have that passion. You’ll still have a reason to dance out of bed and down the hall every morning — and I do, every morning. Thank God there’s nobody seeing this, except my dog.”

Since Ellen tagged Pharrell in the video — as well as famed DJ Samantha Ronson and Hollywood hairstylist Carla Gentry Osorio — we’re assuming she attended at the same after-party he hit up: the Sony Music Entertainment Post-Grammy Reception at the Palm. Also in attendance? John Legend, Katy Perry, and even music legend Stevie Nicks. Sounds like Ellen had an amazing night!

Have you watched that video? She is just using "illuminati" as an example of a secret society, and she it feels like she was brought into one working on AHS and having to keep mum about it. She could've said Knights Templar or The Orisha Priesthood or whatever and meant the same thing.

And just about everything seems to be linkable to Illuminati hysteria. A website said that the Taco Bell sign has a secret "6" in it, and the logo is put on three sides of every TB, ergo "666" ergo Illuminati!!! ZOMG!

And the "O" sign people make with their index finger and thumb is apparently one too. Which also means "everything is a-ok" according to my primary school teachers, and "take it up the ass" in Italy. Is every aggressive Italian driver a member of the Illuminati too? I guess we can't prove they're not. But it does make you wonder, right? (No it doesn't.)

I also cover one of my eyes in the palm of my hand whenever I'm feeling tired/stressed. But I am definitely part of a secret elite society so that's probably not an example I should bring up for the case I'm making.
