The Green raises the bar for Local Reggae
BY JON WOODHOUSE
Chatting after performing at Willie K's BBQ Blues Festival, Mick Fleetwood confirmed the rumor that Christine McVie will rejoin Fleetwood Mac. Already composing new songs, McVie will begin recording with most of the band members in March. Mick indicated that Christine's rapturously received appearance with the Fleetwood Blues Band in the Castle Theater early last year opened the door for her return. The Mac will head out on the road again in the fall. No word yet if Hawaii is on the radar for shows.

It could mean everybody but John, this time.
Stevie's not doing anything right now. She's not on tour and not making an album. There's no reason why she can't be there.

Michelle, when you say "It could mean everybody but John, this time," do you mean to say that you believe he won't record or tour with them, or just not then because he might have treatments?

I somehow doubt that's the case. Stevie hasn't really been a part of Fleetwood Mac's recording sessions since "Tusk," though I'll give you that's mostly true of John, too.
I think it's the four players starting the session, and Stevie will come in (again) when they're doing the vocal overdubs. I bet John wants to do ANYTHING but being sick, and getting back with Mick and Chris, and Lindsey, is just what the doctor ordered.

Oahu-based reggae band The Green came up with a novel way to open their latest album, "Hawaii '13," - by recording a group of school students performing a Hawaiian chant.
"We wanted to bless everybody who had the album and everybody who worked on the album and give respect to all the forces that made it possible," The Green's JP Kennedy explains. "It was an opening ceremony kind of thing. It was an original chant written by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, a teacher at a Hawaiian immersion school in Honolulu. We were going to go there to do the last track, 'Hawaii Aloha,' with the kids, and then we thought about a chant and she had one. We try our best to express our love for Hawaii, its people and its culture. Reggae isn't Hawaiian music, so we have to try and fit ourselves in somehow."
These rising stars in the world of reggae music made history when they became the first local reggae group to reach Billboard's major mainstream charts, with "Hawaii '13" placing in both the Top 200 albums chart and Hot 100 Singles chart, besides debuting at No. 1 on the reggae chart.
Fans in the islands and beyond are especially attracted to The Green's music for the positive vibes. You just feel good listening to their catchy songs.
"The whole point of reggae music is the uplifting spirit, and being in Hawaii, it's what we grew up feeling," Kennedy says.
On tunes like "Power in the Words," they remind folks "to think about what you say" and avoid negative communication, while the rootsy "Stand and Rise" affirms better times ahead.
With four of the musicians sharing lead vocals, Kennedy, Caleb Keolanui, Ikaika Antone and Zion Thompson, the band also comprises bassist Brad "BW" Watanabe and drummer Jordan Espinoza.
Raising the bar for local reggae bands, along with creating infectious reggae grooves, they demonstrate a gift for crafting beautiful romantic ballads with the track "Chocolate and Roses," which recalls the impassioned work of Frank Ocean.
"We've been waiting to release it for a while," Kennedy notes. "We knew it had great potential, but it's so different. It's one of Caleb's masterpieces. I think you'll see more of that in the future, music that's not totally reggae."
Sometimes described as Hawaii's version of Third World, they reflect the spirited energy of Britain's Steel Pulse, to these ears.
"We're huge fans of both bands and grew up listening to those guys," says Kennedy. "My number one reggae band is Aswad, and I'm a huge fan of Jr. Gong Marley."
Since their days in high school, the members of The Green have relished playing music. "Most of us grew up around musical families," Kennedy explains. "Performing arts from a Hawaiian standpoint is everywhere with hula, luau, all kinds stuff, so we got into playing music with friends in school and forming little bands. A couple of the guys were in a band on the other side of the island and we ended up seeing each other at the weekends in high school. That had a lot to do with us realizing our dreams early on. We were part of a scene already so we could start our careers in a way."
Both Kennedy and Keolanui are nephews of Manao Co. cofounder Danny Kennedy. "So even before we started jamming with friends, we would go to gigs with the uncles and hang out with them and try and get in the studio with them," he continues. "After graduating from high school, I had a little studio set up in my room, and Ikaika and Caleb and Zion would come over, and different bands would be in my house. Then 2010 came, and it was, 'OK, we (got to) do something for real,' and we finished the (first) album."
So what was it about reggae that hooked them? "We were all into it. It was the genre we knew most about, and we weren't supermusicians who could play all kinds of stuff, we were playing reggae. We were getting respect and recognition from our peers, so we were validated in a way. People were always encouraging us. It's only now that we're getting really interested in other genres and doing other things. Back in the day, it was live and die reggae. Now we realize we're fans of all kinds of stuff: James Taylor, country, Etta James, C&K and Kalapana. But when the reggae music hit us, we were in love."
Right after releasing their debut album, The Green went out on tour with Maui's Anuhea. "She got us to open her tour," he recalls. "It was insane, 40 cities across the country. It was the hardest thing ever. We had on average about 10 to 20 people coming to see us. It was rough, and we lost a bunch of money."
After strategizing with their management, they began an intense regime of touring, which gradually increased their exposure and fan base on the Mainland. "We toured for two years straight," he says. "Our fans that we made stayed with us. And we had the opportunity to open for bigger bands. We did four shows with Damian Marley and his brothers. It was unreal. We opened for him in Hawaii a couple of times, but to have him ask us out on the West Coast was sick."
For the future, it looks like The Green's star power will continue to rise. "We're trying to keep on improving," Kennedy concludes. "We're going on the road with Rebelution in the summer, and we're going to do some stuff in Abu Dhabi with the armed forces, and we will head to New Zealand again. South America is a big market we've been trying to get into, so we might be there this year. A lot of offers are showing up."

Multi-Na Hoku Award-winning duo Hapa returns to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center to play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Yokouchi Pavilion.
Successive recording has cemented Hapa's reputation for crafting superlative contemporary Hawaiian music. Among their recent works, "Uakoko" was dedicated to the late chanter Charles Ka'upu. And in December, the popular duo of Barry Flanagan and Ron Kuala'au released new CD, "Tuahine," which includes covers of Matisyahu's "One Day" and the instrumental "What I Love" from the movie "Just Go With It."
Tickets are $30 standard and $45 for premium seating; visit www.mauiarts.org for details.

Blending Hawaiian chant and English lyrics with hip-hop's gritty dance beat, Sudden Rush made their debut in the mid-'90s, creating a polished, urban sound on songs that explored topical Hawaiian issues like sovereignty, drug use and cultural pride. Guests on their brilliant 'Ku'e" album included Keali'i Reichel, Willie K and John Cruz.
The Hilo-based band will make a rare Maui appearance Friday, playing LuLu's Lahaina. See Events for details.

But Stevie doesn't have a reason to be gone this time. Tom Petty and Bob Dylan don't want her to tour with them. She's not on the TISL tour. She's not in rehab. Why would she sit home playing with Sulamith when she could be hanging out with Christine and the boys?

I thought he was done with treatment but was just waiting for surgery. The problem is, we don't have enough to form an informed opinion on this. All we can do is speculate. Hell, we don't even know the nature of John's cancer or surgery.
I just wonder what stage of production there in. If it's the preproduction stage, where they go into a studio and work out songs, then yeah, I agree McVie might not be there. But if it's the actual production, then I'm sure he will be there.

Because she doesn't necessarily enjoy being in the studio with the band. She's had 15 years to be in the studio with the boys. I don't think Christine coming back necessarily changes her feelings for being in the studio. I think it does change how she feels about making another Fleetwood mac album, but I suspect she still doesn't like actually being in the studio while that is being done. Again, the same is true for John.

I don't think she likes it, but I don't think she finds it as easy to just not show up the way John does. They just say he's on the boat and shrug. With Stevie, I think she has to have a reason to offer them, or she gets more flack for not being there.
I mean, I think more than just being completely absent, she's more likely to show up late and leave early, rather than not come. And when she's there and they're working on music, she'll find the equivalent of Sly Stone's room to go do her thing in.

As she should. She's a songwriter. She's the one who has said that her songs are like her children. AND she's the one who's most likely to piss and moan about an album she doesn't like. At some point, it's put up or shut up. At least McVie has given us the courtesy of silence.

Great news! I wish there was a bit more confirmation of this. But still, great news.
We can count on Christine, Lindsey, and Mick in the room. Not sure whether John or Stevie will be there. But still, this is a very good sign! It suggests that the three of them are going to build the new album up together, as a group effort--as in their heyday.

Although I would be thrilled to have a new collection of songs on my stereo, I'm cringing a bit to think of Stevie dashing in near the end of the sessions. It just doesn't work that well when she's out of the loop. Either all in or all out really at this point, otherwise why bother?

I'm not sure she needs a reason. I seriously doubt any of the old patterns will be broken. She will pull five or six songs together, send them in, complain that the band is only using three, and then complain about the production when it's all done.

With any other band, this could happen. With this band, don't expect anything till the end of the year. I'll bet they will start the tour before the album is released.
On the other hand, if Lindsey doesn't tinker too much, and considering he has a few songs already finished, it could happen. I just worry that the songs he has completed are as unappealing as the stuff on the EP.

The difference this time—a big enough difference to change old habits and proclivities—is that a long-absent idol of Stevie's will be there, altering the emotional landscape. I think Stevie will hang out wherever Christine is hanging out.
In fact, I'm already wondering when Christine will move back to California. It's possible that, while she has changed her mind about working in music, she hasn't changed her mind about disliking California. But it's also possible that she wants to live where the living are living once again. I see a possibility that two unattached senior women might even consider living in the same (large) abode together.
Maybe this coming album's wonderful musical pairing won't be Lindsey and Chris; it'll be Stevie and Chris!
Another thought: Maybe the slight consternation we heard in Stevie's and Lindsey's comments last year about Christine's return comes down to embarrassment. They'd both been saying we'd see peace in the Middle East before Christine would ever return to the band. And what happens? Christine returns to the band! It probably made them both feel (through no fault of their own) that they had stuck their foot in their mouth. That's how I would have felt, and that's how I would have reacted after all that time.

I agree! Everybody is getting their panties in a knot about this or that based upon a little blurb this interviewer got from Mick back on January 11th. If anyone was being honest with themselves, they'd presume that Fleetwood Mac's "pushing boundaries" days are over! SYW nailed that coffin. Christine's return alone all but signals the classic sound will likely be intact. Besides, this is not an official annoucement from the whole band. I suspect things are still being hammered out behind the scenes, more specifically, do they have a record deal? Where are they recording at?? Personally, I'll be waiting for a more official PR annoucement before jumping to any conclusions about where & when Stevie joins the band in the studio. For goodness sakes, they haven't officially even annouced Johns full recovery yet.

For me, just keeping it too safe would seem like a sell out. A La the Eagles. I still think these folks have something to say artistically. Lindsey's still making sonically interesting music. Christine pushed her own boundaries on In The Meantime with it's often-dark/angry lyrics. Stevie still dabbles in electronica, country, and pop as a solo artist. There's nothing to say they can't mix up the sound of this Mac record. After all, look what a massive departure Tango was from Mirage. And Tusk from Rumours. They've done it before. I'm not opposed to this album being a classic sounding Fleetwood Mac record... I'd just like some dash of spice to let us know they still give a damn about art, you know? Just look at Johnny Cash. His last albums when he was in his 80s on his deathbed were downright gritty & raw. Wanda Jackson, the Queen Of Rockabilly, is in her later 70s & has had a recent album produced by Jack White, and it was fantastic. Classic yet retains an edge. There's a line Fleetwood Mac can still very much walk between familiar sound, and artistic integrity.

You're probably right. Though like I pointed out in my previous post, each of the songwriters still made departures & statements with their last solo albums, so why not with Fleetwood Mac?

That's why I didn't initially respond to this thread. I have no doubt Mick is telling the truth. But it doesn't seem like anything is set in stone yet, either. There is still a chance the house of cards may collapse.
The logistics are the biggest head scratcher for me as well. Where will they record? LA, Hawaii, or England? LA seems the most likely. But where will Mick, John, and Christine stay while in town? I don't know that any of them own homes there, anymore. I suppose Mick & Chris could bunk at Stevie's mansion while she hangs out in her condo.
I have a feeling the reason we've not heard anything terribly official is because they're probably making their rounds to find a record deal/acceptable deal, too. I'm sure they'll land back at Warner/Reprise, but I sure as hell wish they wouldn't.
For goodness sakes, they haven't officially even annouced Johns full recovery yet.
Do they even tell people they're cured of cancer anymore? I have several relatives who have been dealing with cancer the past few years. Even when my partner's Dad's cancer didn't show up anymore on xrays, his doctors refused to use any words like recovery, remission, cured, etc. I guess maybe medical lawsuits have dictated this change.

I think that if Christine is bringing the "FM", then Lindsey will feel freed up to push boundaries. When it was just Stevie this last time, he tried to be more conventional with his songs (and I like Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy and think they are more interesting than, say, Did You Miss Me) for two reasons:
1. Stevie doesn't like the weird stuff and he was trying to cajole her into an album, so he was on his good behavior.
2. FM needed to maintain their "pop" cred.
Now, Christine is back. She can do the mainstream and he can play around. In fact, he doesn't have to do anything mass appealing with his own music, as long as Stevie and Christine's songs fill that bill.

I think March is a great time table. If it takes 120-180 days to make the album, then they have August/September to rehearse.
This new album would also mean the set-list would have about 3-6 new songs. I find that exciting.
I really hope it's a full Fleetwood Mac album, like Mirage or Tango.

Yep. I thought both of those were good for The Dance era and SYHA, too.
I'd also welcome two songs as strong as most of the SWS and GOS selections.

But I don't think he will record a lot of other LB songs than are already there, and those songs were written with "cajoling Stevie into an album' - vibe. So I think it will be very poppy and safe.

I think March is a great time table. If it takes 120-180 days to make the album, then they have August/September to rehearse.
This new album would also mean the set-list would have about 3-6 new songs. I find that exciting.
I really hope it's a full Fleetwood Mac album, like Mirage or Tango.

It's very exciting! :)
It sounds like it's going to be a full album. I think that they'll be able to get it done fairly quickly. My guess is that Stevie will probably use some of the leftover material from In Your Dreams, songs that she's already worked on with Dave Stewart. And since Lindsey's songs are already done, just needing some overdubs, they may only really need to work on Christine's songs.

No point in speculating, especially if your just going to be negative. we just have to wait and see. And why would Stevie be n the studio as much as everyone else? She's not a musician. But I don't think he will record a lot of other LB songs than are already there, and those songs were written with "cajoling Stevie into an album' - vibe. So I think it will be very poppy and safe.
He will have his hands full with arranging and recording Stevie's songs, recording and 'maccing' Christine's songs and the overall production of the entity.
I totally agree. :)

I'm hoping they go balls-to-the-wall and give us an old-school double album, Stevie be damned. 8 tracks from each songwriter would be glorious. They could even split it into two album releases a few months apart, like Justin Timberlake did with his 20/20 release, and also sell them together as a deluxe box set.
And I want a vinyl release, and I hope that it comes with the CD or HD download so I don't feel compelled to buy both.
If there is a vinyl release, it would be an ideal time to reissue Say You Will on vinyl, so they can sit on display, side by side. This can only help push SYW sales, and is a common marketing strategy with vinyl.

A few people have said they think Stevie will only have two or three songs. I don't get it. I think the two or three songs per album were mostly due to the limited space available on vinyl records ending after the Tango in the Night days. She had four songs on Behind the Mask (a LP/CD album) due to Lindsey's departure. The only other full studio album was Say You Will, and of course, she had plenty of songs on that CD. The EP, well, that was a whole other matter. I'm hoping for an equal number of tracks from all three.

Quite a bit of negativity in this thread in general. Why keep predicting that new music is going to be awful?
We can only go by the last stuff they did. Lindsey had an excellent album with SWS but the EP was awful. Stevie's IYD was the best she's done since The Wild Heart, in my view, so that's good, though her SYW contributions were inconsistent and WY is uninspired. Christine's ITM was just kind of blah. Unless they have a brilliant infusion of creativity working together, there really isn't much to hope for here.

If you are going to wait for an official announcement with this band, you'll get it after the CD is out. This is how FM works.

I agree. Of the new songs on The Dance, they were definitely the standouts. With two songs, Lindsey once again proved his range, from the ethereal to the delightfully weird. That's what he's about and that's what we expect from him, not the beige-colored oatmeal he fed us with the EP.

Ik mean that she hasn't written anything exciting since that time. I don't like TITN. Because of aweful songs of all three. Stevie's are the worst, Lindsey has big love and the titletrack and the rest is rubbish, Christine had a decent mediocre song called Isn't it midnight, and some good ironinghousemotherpop. No depth, no substance, just diddies.
And then ofcourse she wrote the sole song that almost made me burn my fleetwood mac collection, called little lies.

i agree with all that, and especially with your SA/MF vs DYMM comparison. great point!! i just can't see how people who are asking for pushing boundaries can ever see DYMM as better than those 2 EP songs (needless to say, i can't stand DYMM. not as bad as Trouble, but why Lindsey, why?).
i am also very much with you on both your points 1 & 2, and why he was going for FM-y songs, as he was describing them.
but i don't see why would he now waste his time to replace those with new, edgier stuff, that average FM fan would just spit on anyway?? just look at various SYW threads and average opinions about his edgy stuff on SYW. he tried it with Mac once (Tusk), twice (SYW), and he seems to be tired of it. he can do edgy stuff solo, those same fans loving it and asking for it with the Mac will buy his solo albums anyway.
plus, i want to hear whatever they recorded last year. i want to have it. i don't want it being thrown in the trash and replaced. i want to hear everything and anything he has recorded, and have the opportunity to decide on my own whether i like it or not.
I find them so boring. But then they're better than the EP.

I think this is great news! And fascinating too.....
When LB and SN joined FM, it only took them - what was it... 3 or 4 months to do the 1975 album? They had songs ready to go and they were all excited to work together....
Now.... We've have essentially had the Buckingham Nicks band for awhile... And LB and SN are all on a lovefest and working well together....
and Christine is the one walking in this time with songs - sort of a little role reversal.... And They are all excited to work together again....
I'm hoping that we get a fantastic album and that FM can come full circle with this line-up....

I find that an interesting comment too because BTLH was one of the most "classic" sounding Fleetwood Mac songs on Say You Will, with even Christine McVie singing on it! My only criticism of the studio version is that it runs too long at the end. I would have preferred the cold stop ending like on The Dance.

it's definitely not as out there as Come or Red Rover or Murrow. but it is also a "classic" LB, especially what he's been doing in his more recent work. maybe one can fit it into what people here seem to describe as his classic sound but with an interesting/edgy twist in it.

I love that everyone is jumping all over something Mick said in passing to a so-called journalist from the world-renowned Maui News, of all things. (Jon Woodhouse, please pardon my slight sarcasm.) Over the last 35 years, I've read and heard so many speculative things about this band that never did come true, regarding recording, tours and collaborations with other artists. However, with Christine's return, I'm hopeful and optimistic. I'm hopeful that the five of them will somehow get together in a meaningful way in the studio, and I'm optimistic that they will produce some good material. Maybe the fact that they are older and have been through so much will give them some perspective that this may be their last chance to achieve something as a band in the "classic" lineup. Maybe John's illness has awakened something in them. On the other hand, I'm not going to hold my breath, I'll be checking this forum on occasion, I'll hold a little smile in the back of my mind, thinking that the five of them will be the best people they can be and do the best that they can.

but i don't see why would he now waste his time to replace those with new, edgier stuff, that average FM fan would just spit on anyway??
He should go through the trouble because everyone should be bringing their stellar material to the table for this FM album. What does he care what the average FM fan wants? He can just read the critical reviews and get his fulfillment that way.
I know his solo fans are more appreciative, but I don't think he should be making album song selections with that in mind. With FM his work is going to get more attention and more ears than with a solo album. So, if he has songs that he thinks are good, if he's written songs since the tour ended or during the end of the tour, he should put them out. There's no point in saving the good stuff for his solo work when no one's ever going to hear it. He needs to put it out with FM and if it's good it will generate ink. It will be heard and talked about in places where LB isn't usually noticed. It will attract more solo fans the next time he goes out alone. This is the best advertising he is going to have for the next decade. I hope he takes advantage of it.
If he's got another GYOW or Ledge up his sleeve, then I want it released on this FM album. Let him save the next Brother and Sister he has waiting in the wings, for his solo album.
I'm not for throwing pablum that's already been recorded out there under the FM banner, just so I can hear it. My curiousity isn't enough reason to fill the limited FM album slots up with second best. I want his premium stuff for this FM album.
Sure, I hope everything that he recorded with John and Mick gets out there but I'd just as soon have it leaked, rather than have it commercially released if it's not outstanding.
If it's unique, astounding and great, then I want it on this FM album. I need to be amazed and within FM is the place I want it. Michele

nobody knows SYW songs either. other than Peacekeeper, maybe. or The Ledge and non-hit Tusk songs. or Mirage or Tango songs that were not hits. just look at how many music journalists thought that Eyes was one of the new songs on the last tour. the last album that people really know is the dance.

Yes, absolutely. Another Tusk, GYOW, Ledge or even Eyes of the World (with better lyrics preferably). Another Save Me a Place. He's got it in him, but the question is whether he will bring that kind of material to the table or more Sad Angels.

it just shows you how diverse his catalog is, that 2 people who are both huge fans of his work can apparently have a completely different taste in which songs they like or dislike.

considering their output in the last 35 years, having an EP out in 2013 and potentially a full-length album in 2014, seems pretty amazing.

Maybe! The tour they're planning this year is already proof that they're playing by different rules. I have no doubt that they are trying to accelerate things. So, I don't view this album as a swan song at all and I would not bet money against your 2015 conjecture -- well, I'd say 2016. I definitely think they have two more albums in them. LB and SN live in LA and JM is having his treatments in LA, from what was in the news. so that's 3 out of 5.
Men of Mac recorded 8 songs in LB's studio (what's cheaper than free? :D), and SN and LB recorded WY in his home studio, too.

The studio that was being built in Destiny Rules was at Lindsey's previous house in Bel Air. Lindsey's current home studio is under the garage of his Brentwood home. Fleetwood Mac recording an entire album in a garage basement just doesn't seem too likely to me. Christine is the game changer in this situation... I just see recording an album with the classic Mac lineup will demand something a bit grander, I guess. I suspect Stevie has offered up her Pacific Palisades home since she recorded her last solo album there, and she doesn't actually live in that house. But I have a feeling politics would prevent that. Since Stevie wields the most power in the band these days, I don't see the band recording on her home turf, too. So who knows. :p
I think this new disc can be done and released by late summer. Having tracks by the boys already pretty much done and Christine's contributions submitted to Buckingham its very possible. I'm sure Lindsey and Stevie have worked out some things also. So when March rolls along and they get together they can still build together what has already been worked. (Much like the 1975 release) I have a feeling this is going to be big. I think it will explode just like 1997 and the Dance. Lindsey has said there are more chapters to write in Fleetwood Mac and this is the next one. So Excited!

yeah hard to tell with them and their politics.
i don't think we know whether a studio that was incorporated into a Bel Air house was bigger or better than the new one which is in it's own building under the garage? i would think each studio he built would draw on whatever he learned from the previous effort, so would actually be better? but he may have downsized it too, idk. i think i do remember him talking about the huge soundboard and how soundproof and nicely separated from the house the new studio is.

I would like to hear "It Takes Time" with Christine on piano.
I'm optimistic about the new album. IMO, Lindsey has written and recorded some of his very best work 1997-onwards. Imagine if Christine brings a few pop songs the quality of "Friend" (a song that was just dying to be a FM song anyway) to the table. In Your Dreams was a good effort from Stevie. I'm thinking it will be an improvement over SYW, which had some great work from Lindsey, but Stevie was hit and miss.

I concur! That might take the bit of generic out of it. Leave the cheesy synth strings out too.
I really doubt any of the EP tracks will be on the new disc. It wouldn't make any sense to re record these with Christine. There is no way Lindsey would re work It Takes Time with Christine playing keys.I also feel as much as we would like to hear Freind redone with the MAC it's not happening.

I agree. Although, I think the EP songs could be added on as bonus tracks for a deluxe addition. Which, for me, is sad. I really, REALLY want them to redo "Miss Fantasy" with Christine, although it probably won't happen. The best we can hope for is for them doing that on tour, and even then I'm not optimistic.

For me, Lindsey has become the biggest wildcard. I've only truly enjoyed a little more than a third of the music he's released over the past decade, after having loved all but a few of his songs from the three prior decades.
That said, I trust that they'll all rise to the occasion and bring their best material to the table. I couldn't be more excited about this.

I wouldn't break out the champagne yet. Mick has been known to leak stuff over the years that turns out either totally wrong or wishful thinking.
I met Mick Back in 1996 right before the release of Twisted and he gave me the 411 on that track and a dinner the 5 had and how something BIG was coming down the pike. I think Mick clears it with the band before he makes such announcements.

For me, Lindsey has become the biggest wildcard. I've only truly enjoyed a little more than a third of the music he's released over the past decade, after having loved all but a few of his songs from the three prior decades. Hi, Brian—it's been so long, but glad to see you back!
That said, I trust that they'll all rise to the occasion and bring their best material to the table. If you'll pardon my quoting you (but you sum up these notions so well verbally), but I can't help thinking this idea (expressed so often) that the songwriters will (or should) bring their "best work" to the new sessions sort of goes in circles and doesn't really resolve. You and I, for example, might hope that Lindsey brings his best songs to the table, and when we hear those songs and think they're the same misfires we've been hearing on his solo albums, we'll be disappointed and say, "He didn't bring his best material in." But these are subjective responses from us, and our conclusions are randomly generated. In Lindsey's eyes, he may be completely convinced that he brought his best material in, and other listeners might think so, too.
You can't really take these statements about "best material" and put them on solid ground—all you can do is hope that the music you hear this year or next year is music you like. I don't think there's a single Fleetwood Mac song that all us listeners are unified in thinking is either a good or a bad song. We have group proclivities where the majority thinks this or that—almost everyone seems to think "One More Night" stinks—but even majority opinion doesn't settle the matter of concluding one song is or isn't the writer's best material. Besides, majority opinion shifts, too—individuals have changed their minds about Say You Will over the years, I've been told. I happen to love "One More Night," and if I'd never heard it before but it was recorded this year, I'd think it was one of the better Fleetwood Mac songs since Danny Kirwan's day, and I'd say with much assurance that Christine had brought in some of her best material (and others would think I was nuts).

You've made an excellent point. "Best material" really is entirely subjective and is going to vary wildly from one fan to another. Each of us, individually, is hoping to thoroughly love the album -- yet there's no way that could collectively happen with such disparate tastes. Ultimately, some of us will love it, some of us will think it has its moments, and some of us will think they embarrassed themselves.

That's what I was trying to get at though, when I told Elle I would rather she take the 5 recorded songs and (Monty Hall) I'd like to have what's in the unseen Box #3, for Fleetwood Mac.
In Lindsey's eyes, I don't think the tracks he has already recorded with John and Mick are his "best." He had a goal for those songs and I don't think the goal was to present his best material. When he toured and introduced Did You Miss Me as the first single, he scoffed at it. It's a song that he seemed to think belonged more to the records executives than to him. Clearly, he was prouder of other material on his new album. True, the songs he likes best may not be the ones that fans like best, but I'd like to think that he thinks his "A" material is on the new album, not his appeasement material.

Not to be flippant, but Lindsey has said this almost every time he has recorded something new in the last couple of decades. But he's not singular in this, of course. There is a saying among songwriters that, "The song I just wrote is my best one."

Michele
Lindsey does distinguish between Fleetwood Mac material and solo material though. His whole big machine/small machine thing. He knows Fleetwood Mac is more mainstream and he can stretch out a bit on his solo albums. I remember him saying one time a long time ago, but after SYW that he had a song that he was saving for FM because it was a perfect song for the band. I don't know if that song ever got released because I don't know what song he was referring to. But it shows that he's not just putting out whatever he's got onto whatever project he's currently working on.

I thought he had, but I could be misremembering. By the time Sheryl announced she was joining the band, the word had been out as a possibility, and I thought that had come from Mick. Mick did something similar after the '09 tour saying the band would be getting together in early 2010 while hinting at the promise of a new album and tour...While there was a new album & tour it was Stevie solo and not FM...This time things are a little different with Liz also saying CM will be returning to FM...Stevie and Lindsey were both at last night's Grammys show so if there is any validity to Mick saying FM will be
"recording & touring"in 2014 it would be a perfect opportunity for SN/LB to say something about it...

And as funny as it sounds now, I remember him saying that he could actually be more mainstream on Law and Order, because within FM he felt he had to be kind of out there, to counter the other songwriters, but on an entire solo album, he felt he could be more traditional, because he was not trying to contrast his tracks from anyone else's. He felt his role in FM was to be avant garde, but on his own he wouldn't have to do that.
Now, I don't think Law and Order reflects that kind of thinking at all, but I do recall the interview where he said it. It struck me as kind of the reverse of what I thought he would try to achieve on a solo album.
But he might have just said it because he didn't want to alienate potential buyers of his solo album by letting them assume that it would be ALL Tusky. Michele

It sounds to me like she's going to do a short solo tour and then another Fleetwood Mac tour. Which, if that's the case, she'll be minimally involved in any Fleetwood Mac studio recording again.

However, we do know that there are still five unreleased songs by the boys and that Christine has sent a batch of songs to Lindsey. Lindsey's the one who told the press about the songs he did with Mick and John, in the hopes of making another Fleetwood Mac album. Christine's the one who said of some songs she had recently written: ‘I sent them to Lindsey and he loved them...You could hear his mind whirring, figuring how he could improve them, Mac them up.’

My gut feeling is that they'll do some recording in the next few months (probably Lindsey, Chris and Mick), then once John is good to go, they'll do a small tour, just to wet their feet, so to speak. After that, they'll come back and finish the album ~ Stevie included !~ then they'll shop it around, with plans for a release and major tour next year in honor the 40th anniversary of the white album and this line-up!

I just can't fathom how they could repackage their back catalogue yet again. Unless they do a new box set since the old one has been OOP for so long. God, I hope that doesn't happen. :distress:
I think everything will depend on how they work together in the studio. They're probably not sure yet what course collaboration will take. It's possible we'll get a full album but it's just as possible we'll get a few tracks packaged as a digital EP.
I really doubt we will get another EP. That was something that was a quick release to put out adding Stevie to some already recorded music.
I don't know, Stevie and Lindsey have both cited releasing a small number of songs on iTunes as a sensible way to release new music in today's world. It depends on the volume of work they produce that they'll consider good enough, and we aren't going to know that for a while.

I'd say this is a realistic possibility. "Albums" are kind of an old concept. Unfortunately with this band, it's not like they'll keep recording a couple songs here or there and keep going… if they don't sit in the studio and do it another 10 years will go by.

I think they were contemplating another EP (if that's all they could get), before they knew Christine was returning. Now, that she's there, I don't think an EP is going to cut it. I mean, I know they only did a few songs for The Dance, but this time it just seems like they already have an album worth of songs and, not that we want them with WB, but they want to be with a record company.
Now, it will be easy to get studio backing for the "reunion", so their perspective has changed. I just don't think an EP will cut it any longer.

Now, it will be easy to get studio backing for the "reunion", so their perspective has changed. I just don't think an EP will cut it any longer.
Michele
Yeah, Christine hasn't recorded a studio album with the Mac in 20 years. It's been 10 years since her last solo album. She's spoken several times in the past year about all the new material she has, and how proud she is of it. We know Lindsey still has a stack of ready material, too. Stevie's the wildcard here, but it seems like Chris & Lindsey are more than ready to do a full album. And I doubt Stevie would pass on this chance to reunite with her best musical friend. Not to mention I still have the feeling her displeasure with Say You Will will prompt her to make one last Mac album, too.

Sometimes I think that any one of us Ledgies would make better producers. We know all the things us fans actually want to hear!
"Stevie! STFU and stop your complaining. Fix these lyrics, I don't care about Bob Dylan! this song is at 95% and i want it at 100%"
"Stevie, that vocal SUCKED. It needs more high notes. It wont kill you to sing in falsetto. I dont care if you dont sing it that way live or not, I just want a great vocal that is interesting!"
"Lindsey, that guitar amp is perfectly fine sounding as it is, stop messing with it!"
"Lindsey, there is nothing wrong with a fine acoustic guitar or banjo with no effects!"
"Christine, no songs about Daddies! Please! We don't want to know about what a 70 year old woman thinks of as a Daddy!"
"Stevie, you will report for work EVERY day and add input to every song on this album. Either harmony, tambourine, maracas, or belching in the background. I don't want to hear any betching about anything that you didnt like unless you had direct feedback on it!"
"Lindsey and Stevie, I don't care if it kills you, SING pretty harmonies on this Chris song!"
"Stevie, get over yourself and write some lyrics over this Lindsey instrumental If you can do it for other people you can do it for Lindsey"
"Lindsey, get over yourself and stop making guitar lines that are heavy on the Bass note. that is why we have a bass player!"
'Lindsey, bring your A game to this Stevie arrangement. I don't care what she says"
"Mick, stop spending money on crap you don't need!"
"Mick, no more wine!"
"Chris, Stevie and Lindsey... you are NOT leaving this room until you write a song together!"
"Stevie, no cigarettes. EVER"
"All five of you are staying in this room without food or water until you JAM around these demos and random lyrics you bring and make a song out of it. We will repeat this exercise every day till we have one slow song, one mid temp song, one dark song, one peppy upbeat song and one bluesy song"
"We will record songs until we have enough for a album. Then we will polish those songs until every single one is radio ready. Then we will play them LIVE and then do overdubs."
"Ken Caillat WILL be the sound engineer and mixer of this album. No discussion"
"Whatever songs do not make it on the album will go on another followup album NEXT year, during which time we will continue to polish them"

Good points across the board! Plus, spoken or unspoken, I still think it bugs everyone that the last Eagles album did 4 million, while SYW didn't even break a million! This band wants to go out on top!

Did Stevie actually bring in 4 new songs after her break?
The first new songs she brought in were "Destiny Rules", "Silver Girl", "Illume", "Say You Will" and "Thrown Down" - only 1 of which was an old song from the TISL sessions. These are the songs were hear demo's of in Destiny Rules when Stevie first shows up and the first set of songs we see being worked on.
Seems to me Stevie spent a month in Phoenix rumaging through the vault and brought in "Smile At You", "Running Through The Garden" and "Goodbye Baby" (all old songs) plus 1 new song, "Everybody Finds Out".

Stevie was still on tour when they started work on SYW, so she sent them the old stuff first. My guess is that she had those old songs in mind and then asked Lori or Karen to rummage through the vault to find them. (Based on how "Secret Love" emerged, it seems to be the way Stevie does things.)

She says she brought 4 in the documentary. She walks into the house they recorded in and says she got no rest but she wrote 4 songs. I didn't say they recorded all 4, but she clearly says she's brought them 4 songs.
Prior to that she had given them a bunch of her old stuff but then decided she didn't want to only bring in old stuff, so asked them for an extra month ostensibly to rest after her solo tour, but she ended up working on new material.

Not all the songs Stevie left with the band while she was on tour promoting TISL were ancient. We know that she pulled "Thrown Down" from TISL, because it was on a late 2000 TISL acetate, which had begun circulating among Stevie fans. The "Thrown Down" recording, commonly referred as the "wall of sound" version featuring Lindsey, came directly from that acetate. Also, Stevie was rumored to have recorded "Everybody Finds Out", along with "Smile At You" & "Goodbye Baby" @1999-2000 during the TISL sessions, because Stevie updated the copyright on these tunes, which most usually corrolates to recording a new version. So when Stevie referred to preferring her demos to the SYW final versions, she is probably referring to these TISL outtakes. "Illume", "Say You Will", Silver Girl", & "Destiny Rules" were specifically written for SYW, after Stevie finished her TISL tour.

I do like the Thrown Down on SYW but wall of sound is far superior and in the "killer tune" category. I prefer Lindsey's vocal on the Wall of the Sound version. The line "about just how much he never really told her" is so passionate and committed. It's incredible. I think the song would have made a bigger impact on TISL, if it had been placed right after Planets of the Universe.
My dream TISL tracklist:

I think the version ON SYW fits the overall sound of the ALBUM better, but the TISL outtake version would've made a GREAT pre-album release single and had "radio airplay" written all over it. No crime in having two separate versions of the song...allows for "bonus tracks" when they release "Deluxe Edition" versions of the album 20 years down the road.

Agreed. I like both versions; they each have different strengths and weaknesses, but both work well overall. There is no question in my mind that either incarnation is superior to the title track which they chose to release as the single. Heck, "Thrown Down" would have made a better album title, too. Yes. What a missed opportunity. And use supine images on the album cover like we have, but maybe not have them look quite so tranquil lying there. Hint at something tumultuous.
I guess back then they did not know how well they'd be accepted after Christine, so they were trying to let everyone know that they still had what Christine offers. Bad approach.

Here is the TISL outtake of Thrown Down, also known as the 'wall of sound' version, used in some terrible soap-opera clip compilation. If you don't know, 'wall of sound' refers to a production technique originated by Phil Spector.
From wikipedia: Spector created a dense, layered, reverberant sound that came across well on AM radio and jukeboxes popular in the era. He created this sound by having a number of electric and acoustic guitarists perform the same parts in unison, adding musical arrangements for large groups of musicians up to the size of orchestras, then recording the sound using an echo chamber.
It has so much energy, it rocks, it pulses, it's exciting - whereas the SYW version sounds like Stevie got reprimanded before recording the vocal.

Do we have any true verification that the Wall of Sound version of Thrown Down is from the TISL sessions? It just sounds more Fleetwood Mac - Lindsey guitar playing. I always thought of it as an early arrangement and mix from the SYW sessions that obviously got re-worked later with Chris Lord-Alge got a hold of it
Yes StevieNicksfann, the "Wall Of Sound" version of Thrown Down was most definitely recorded for the TISL album and was included on the pre-release acetate cd that was issued in September 2000. I believe the track was produced by Sheryl Crow in December 1998 and that Lindsey attended the recording session, hence the Fleetwood Mac vibe.

well also, in the Destiny Rules documentary when the band goes in and hears Mark Needham's mix he was the one who pulled out various pieces (albeit ones produced/played by LB) and created that mix... things like the "together, together, together" vocal in conjunction with the acoustic guitar twanging (my technical term lol) and LB was like "oh wow I like how you put those together" and how Mark mixed the tracks (like this song and I'm sure others) in ways that he hadn't thought of nor would (according to LB) any one else (not forgetting his rip on Chris Lord-Alge).
So I think the SYW version is a combo of how LB chose to record different tracks for the song and then how Mark Needham heard all the raw tracks and chose to blend them together. LB clearly loved the mix and Stevie clearly didn't and went into the whole thing of getting Chris to mix a few key songs so they could compare.
Seems like in the end perhaps Stevie "went along to get along" which is a shame. If you think your music doesn't sound as good as you want it too, fight for it dammit! I know it gets ugly sometimes between her and LB but why let crap go out over and over again?? May explain her reluctance/resistance to giving them songs for the EP??

Does anyone have a scan of the acetate to share? I don't doubt it exists because those outtakes had to come from somewhere. I've seen the acetate for the TISL demos and the 5-track sampler, but never the 16-tracker. The unconfirmed story is that "certain people" received them at the 2000 AHI Benefit. Anyone?

That's right. Stevie's well known for handing out unfinished stuff. That's why we have so many demo's and outtakes available now, because she'd go a party coked up to hell and say "oh, listen to this and tell me what you think" and before you knew it, the cassettes were circulating.
I do wish somebody would tell Stevie this, I get annoyed at her complaining about people "stealing" her songs when she's the one that was handing them out.
Anyway, back to the point, the TISL acetate also contains the the TISL version of "My Heart" (which is, IMO, FAR superior to the IYD version), alternate mixes of "Too Far From Texas" and "Bombay Saphires" and (I *think*, correct me if I'm wrong), "Space Needle".

Me too. Although that earlier version has something the SYWversion lacks and vice versa. But it is bull to state that he ruïned the song, in my world.
I agree with that completely. Also, I would argue that no version of Thrown Down was going to be a big hit in 2003. People who keep seeing phantom hits in FM songs from the last decade are still stuck in the band's heyday, much like a couple of the band members seem to be. Accept it: There will be no more FM hits.
Thanks for posting this! Very interesting to hear. I still MUCH prefer the SYW version, as this one sounds bland, the drums sort of bombastic, a little too middle-of-the-road sounding -- although I do like how prominent Lindsey's vocals are in it.

I had to listen to this "Wall of Sound" version again because it had been a long time since I heard it. The SYW version is superior, in my humble opinion. Everything is a little more subtle, and the guitar that starts the song immediately identifies the track as a FM song. Yeah, I think they made the right choice here. The only thing I would have changed is the space-age synthesizer riff panned right on the chorus. I would have changed it to a less spacey keyboard sound or to a guitar -- or, or, or... a cello. Now that would have been cool!

The sarcasm is pardoned. Mick is obviously excited about heading back to the studio, as, it sounds like, is Christine. They have a few tracks in the works. As to an actual album we can only hope. I just thought it was so cool that Christine's surprise (amazing) appearance in concert with Mick last year on Maui thrilled her enough to want to return to the stage!
I would really love the new album to open up with a Christine McVie track with some great harmonizing with Lindsey and Stevie. Love in Store comes to mind. I love that track as an opener. Never take your love away.........Great tune!

I'd never really thought about it before, but most post '75 Mac albums had Lindsey openers: White Album, Rumours, Tango, Say You Will. None of them had much Mac harmony, either. I love the idea of a Chris opener. It would be a wonderful way to mark her return, and the return of the full classic Mac lineup.

Blechhhhh! "Over & Over" was the WORST choice for an opener. Even "Honey Hi" would've been a massive improvement.

Regarding Thrown Down, I prefer the SYW version. In Destiny Rules, the demo Stevie is playing when discussing vocal parts has those awesome falsetto answer parts. Thrown down (thrown down) Like a barricade (like a barricade). I wish they'd gone with Stevie's vocal arrangement, to flesh out the chorus.
Also, I wish the "la la la" from her Say You Will demo was used in the final version between chorus and verse. It's a catchy little extra hook that would have given the song a bit more room to breathe. About three less repeats of the chorus at the end, while I'm improving the song.

You're one of the reasons I don't post here much anymore... because you always say what I'm thinking anyway, making me redundant :p
The SYW version has a better arrangement but the WoS version has a better Lindsey vocal performance IMO. Combine them and it'd be perfect.
I'm excited about the prospect of a new album. I want Lindsey to have at least one song that's just a rocker with Mick and John somewhere. It can either be a Murrow/ISA-type brooding guitar track or it can be a madcap uptempo thing like Gift of Screws. Maybe one of each

I'd love THAT!!! Actually, kind of hoping that "Gift Of Screws" would've made the final SYW track list.
Which is kind of what I did for my iPod SYW tracklist...swap out other Lindsey tunes in place of the ones I didn't care for. (ditto with a leftover TISL tune from Stevie) Made the album a little more commercial sounding without losing Lindsey's quirkiness.
Disc 1:
Say You Will
Bleed To Love Her
Destiny Rules
She Smiled Sweetly
Smile At You
Try For The Sun
Thrown Down
Steal Your Heart Away
Not Make Believe
Disc 2:
Gift Of Screws
Touched By An Angel
What's The World Coming To
Illume
Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
Everybody Finds Out
The Right Place To Fade
Goodbye Baby

What about the album's producer? Any speculation?
As much as I adore Lindsey, I think someone else needs to produce it this time around. I loved Lindsey's production on Tusk for it being so raw and forward thinking, but over the last 10-15 years his songs are sounding way too over-produced for my liking. It's really hard on my ears (and sounds cheesy too). The raw playing of each of these phenomenal musicians should be showcased. God forbid we get another "Without You"...
The Mac with some fresh production would be fantastic! I'm excited for this album!

Think About Me would have been a great opener. Though Tusk was meant to have an incongruous sound and feel (right?) so using a ballad as an opener works in that sense.
Anyway -
When I read that during their last show, the band announced plans to tour in the summer of 2014, occasionally I would pretend that they meant Australian/New Zealand summer and that they would come play here in February/March. The Australian leg of the Say You Will Tour was in February 2004. Knew that there was zero chance of them making up their cancelled dates that soon, but it's nice to pretend sometimes. :p
Lots of Ledgies appear to be of the opinion that Say You Will is sub-par, I don't know how it was received at the time of its release. [Correct me if I'm wrong] It's not uncommon for people to say in retrospect that the Say You Will and Unleashed tours (especially the 2009 tour) were sub-standard, but at the time people actually had fun at the shows and enjoyed the music. Maybe part of why Fleetwood Mac's latest efforts seem poorer than their earlier work is just the tendency to overanalyse them as the years go by with no new Mac release to keep fans engaged.
I don't mind if Lindsey produces the next album. Maybe they could bring in a co-producer from one of their earlier albums to act as a mediator. Would be great to see them all in the studio together at the same time and bringing fresh songs to the table (Lord knows Stevie's reverse burglar has revealed far too many of her demos to the world already - with vocals far superior to what SN is capable of today). I remember someone writing on this board that a Stevie/Christine collaboration would be very interesting - I'd like to hear that too. Maybe Stevie and Lindsey could even co-write a song together (yeah right) or perform an original duet. I think take full advantage of all Christine's new songs and have her keyboards (some accordion playing would be awesome actually) and vocal interplay with Stevie and Lindsey as an integral part to other songs on the album. There's another thread here about the tempo of more recent recordings being a touch too slow - that could be improved, definitely.
Really hope the Mac come to Australia with Christine too!

I'm happy with Lindsey producing it but I'd like them to get in an engineer with golden ears. The one thing I feel is lacking from Lindsey's more recent solo recordings is the audio fidelity that was on his earliest albums. It works for the aesthetic he goes for on his solo albums but I don't think it would work for the Mac. And I think it's more to do with engineering than production.

I agree with this 100%!!! He is a genius, but you can't do it all sometimes. It's hard to step back when your are so engrossed with writing, singing, playing, recording, producing, mastering etc.

Fleetwood Mac ready to begin recording?

Newly reunited with Christine McVie, the group are already composing new songs according to a report in Maui News
Fleetwood Mac‘s classic line-up is reportedly set to begin recording together for the first time in 27 years. Newly reunited with Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and John McVie are purportedly working on a new album.

Word of the studio reunion emerged through a tiny item in Maui News (via Stereogum), following Mick Fleetwood’s 11 January gig at a small festival in Wailuku, Hawaii. “Chatting after performing at Willie K’s BBQ Blues Festival, Mick Fleetwood confirmed the rumour that Christine McVie will rejoin Fleetwood Mac,” wrote columnist Jon Woodhouse. “Already composing new songs, McVie will begin recording with most of the band members in March … [and] the Mac will head out on the road again in the fall.”
Although the return of Christine McVie has been corroborated elsewhere, this is the first indication that Fleetwood Mac are making a record together. When the group last convened for an album, 2003′s Say You Will, Christine McVie didn’t write any songs. Her only contributions were borrowed from aborted sessions for a Lindsey Buckingham solo album.
When asked about a new album, last September, Lindsey Buckingham said the decision was up to Stevie Nicks. “Stevie needs to come to the table with some material,” he said. “She has to want to do it … [And] she’s probably thinking, ‘If I have to write five new songs, do I want to give them to Fleetwood Mac?’”
Buckingham was part of Sunday night’s Grammys gala, performing in a closing jam with Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. Due to time restrictions, producers cut to a commercial before the performance was finished. “Music’s biggest night… to be disrespected,” Reznor tweeted. “A heartfelt FU*K YOU guys.”

Nothing new here it's just a rework of the Maui news piece...The interesting thing is that when Mick put it out there that CM was returning to FM Liz was quick with a confirmation but with Mick's "recording in March & tour in the fall" statement everyone else seems to be avoiding it...Stevie & Lindsey both were in the position to say something at the Grammys and Stevie is interviewed regularly...You would think that since Mick has put it out there Lindsey would mention recording and Stevie even if she isn't thrilled about recording would at least mention some new FM shows...

Lindsey was not interviewed at the grammys - he didn't walk the red carpet, he just performed and was seen in the audience several times.
also, with being burned so many times since Unleashed and being on the record that he wants new FM album, maybe he'd avoid saying much more. he did say in that radio interview that with Christine possibly coming back that opens up some great new possibilities, about which he doesn't want to say anything more so not to jinx it.

But didn't Stevie mention touring? I thought she did say they might do more shows, but that she just didn't mention recording.
if Stevie is mad at Lindsey she might not mention recording, to make him wonder. It's not that she's not going to do it, she will. But she doesn't want to say it. It's like in DR she was saying she might not do a long tour. She had every intention of a full tour, but it was her leverage to get him to stop with the double album.

she said in Vegas, at the end of the FM show, that they'll be back next year (2014). so i see no reason to think she will not be touring with FM this fall.
she never said she'll be recording with FM though, and in that new interview she said she has no plans for another solo album any time soon and definitely not in the same house she recorded her last solo album. so i guess whether or not she'll be recording with FM this year may be open to speculations.

It seems to me that Stevie is deliberately being coy to the media about specifics regarding any FM plans. There must be a reason behind this because she's usually effusive about any upcoming projects!?! And with Liz's official announcement that Christine is definitely back in the group (this being all Stevie ever wanted) you'd think she'd be drooling to the press about it.
Something is definitely up, be it contract's still being ironed out, record company, & band politics playing out behind the scenes (which is the most likely scenerio.) If there is a FM record being planned, Stevie would be straight up stupid not to be involved, because it would draw a lot of unattractive & unwanted attention about why she would not participate in the press (casting a stark dark shadow over any FM record and their upcoming tour.) So I think she ultimately will contribute one way or another. But behind the scenes right now there must be a battle underway!
And no way do I believe Stevie will embark on a solo tour this year (unless it's corporate shows & perhaps casino one-offs) They're (concert promoters) not going to want Stevie to saturate any markets that FM may potentially play, so I'm not reading too much into her one off comment about 2 tours happening in 2014 to that interviewer at the Grammy's, unless she's referring to two FM legs before years end, which makes sense if they're not hitting the road until late summer, early fall.

I doubt seriously that a Stevie solo tour would have any impact on a Fleetwood Mac tour, especially with Christine back. There's a lot more to market with a Fleetwood Mac "reunion".

This reminds me of the 1982 FM Record Magazine cover story all over again - The Trouble With Stevie. I don't think she'll come in at the end this time. I think she'll be there from the beginning. If it were just John, Mick and Lindsey, then yes she wouldn't be there from the start. This is different and certainly as momentous as any short tour she could do with Grohl.
I don't think she'll be there just because she likes Christine. She'll be there because it's historic and she wants to be part of it and the memories. First time since 1998. It's certainly as memorable as the Clinton inauguration. When they go into the studio. She'll be there.

I agree. She'll be there. She may not be mentioning it because she doesn't know the details. It's not that much of a stretch to figure that Stevie is usually unclear of what's actually going to happen and when. She's already mentioned two tours coming this year, or then one fall tour, a recording, a new house if she does another solo album and 5-7 years left of music. She's all over the place again.

Which is basically what happened during "Mirage" & "Tango".
This reminds me of the 1982 FM Record Magazine cover story all over again - The Trouble With Stevie. The article - "Where's Stevie?" was a propaganda piece full of spin by writer David Gans, who apparently held a hostile view of Stevie and set out to write a hit piece on her simply because she declined to be interviewed. La, la, la-la, la, la, laaaa

I remember that article. It was conspicuously mean spirited. Either Gans took band comments out of context or Mick, Christine, and Lindsey were in a "Let's bash Stevie" mood. Ironically, John wasn't present either and did not get flak from anyone.

I'm just happy they're doing SOMETHING new, even if it's only a limited EP, rather than just straight touring only.
I think Extended Play was received well last year. For artists spending more time touring and brief periods in the studio recording, EPs are quick for releasing music.
I do not know how many songs Lindsey, Stevie and Christine have to record.
