This just breaks my heart. No amount of money can justify this.
Essentially, there's an auction for a license to hunt and kill an endangered rhino. The auction proceeds will, ironically, be donated to rhino conservation efforts.

Doesn't anybody look forward? How can this be acceptable? Death threats are not the answer, but what kind of monster, or 'human being' thinks it's ok to kill these very rare animals just because he or she paid for it?

That's a big thing here in Texas, especially in the Hill Country region between Austin & San Antonio. Ranch owners specialize in rearing endangered, exotic animals... then charge hunters large fees to hunt those very animals on their ranches. All in the name of "conservation funding." Seems like an ass backwards way of doing things, but that's Texas 'logic' for you.
Frankly, I'm quite amazed this group got the Namibian government to play along with them... but I guess all they see are dollar signs. And mark my words, this will raise a massive amount of money if it's allowed to go through. This media attention has undoubtedly stirred a hornets nest of gun rights, property rights, and anti-government people. They will bring out their checkbooks in force.
The thing I worry about though, is this is setting a dangerous precedent. How many times will rhinos be allowed to be culled? What trophy species is next? Not just that, but by playing God & culling male rhinos, are they doing the species a disservice? Part of the toughness & survivability of rhinos has to come from these inter-male death fights. If the males are culled to a point where there is no competition between them, will the gene pool of rhinos degrade? Will this in turn expedite the extinction of the species?

This is f***ing awful. I can't believe I'm reading it. Surely this can not go ahead. And they are trying to justify themselves by saying that rhinos are killed in fighting - there are only 4000 of the poor creatures left in the world for gods sake! I really hope this doesn't happen.
And why is the man so surprised by the death threats?
"I've had death threats against my family and to members of my staff," Carter told NBC News. "A number of the emails said, 'For every rhino you kill, we will kill a member of the club.' It is some pretty crazy stuff."
Well this is just as crazy: the auction, which starts Thursday and will give one person the opportunity to hunt one of the rare beasts in Namibia.

This is awful .
I never was a fan of hunting as my step father and my late sisters boyfriend was.
I hope that again Bob Barker will lend a hand by making videos on fighting this rhino-hunt auction going on there.
