I wanted to drop in here and see if any of you know anything about cassette to mp3 players. I am really wanting to get one because I have like 3 or 4 huge boxes of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie concerts that I would like to transfer some of them to the computer. I thought if I could find someone who already has one that might be best. Although I have been looking on the internet for info. So if anyone knows anything about them I would appreciate any info you might have. Thanks

I bought one 2 years ago and was so excited because I grew up with cassettes. The sound quality upon transfer records too low to achieve any good sound. A waste of $36.00

I have my own setup.I dubbed about 120 plus hours of my cassettes that I recorded from the 1970's and the 1980's .I still have 100's of hours more to do.

The setup is simple.

I used my digital recorder which is the Roland Edirol HR9 recorder

Set it to wave for the master copy.later I use a MP3 convertor to make MP3's

For copying mono tapes .For a cassette player .I use a good working portable cassette recorder hooked to patch cord with a sound level reducer to match the digital recorders aux input from the cassette earphone output.

For stereo tapes I use a good working stereo deck hooked right to the digital recorders aux input .

For vinyl I use a good working turntable hooked to my JVC stereo then output it from the tape output to the aux input of the digital recorder.

After the tapes or records are copied into the digital recorder.I take the SD card and transfer the wav files into the computer and use Cool Edit Pro to clean up the sound .

I use my sound mixer and pro decks for quality transfers like Stevie and FM shows. .

I agree Viv.Those Ion cassette/turntables are great for the average person that wants to get a quick copy of their favorite tapes/vinyl to their iPod.

I rather have control of the sound levels and trust the equipment that those priceless cassettes go into without getting them chewed up in the mechanism .

OK Sorry I understand it.

I'm just saying the average Joe would not care how his tapes sound would use one of those Ion products.

I know someone else who was disappointed in one of the cassette to MP3 packages around. Myself I just plug a cassette deck into a DVD recorder with RCA cables and record onto an audio CD, great sound, and then onto the computer in wav format with minimal editing/breaking up into tracks/volume adjest via Nero Express (and I then reburn to CD-R). I've done many live tapes.

Yes .That can be done too.Thats how I get my old camcorder videos onto the computer for editing.I just transfer the camcorder DV tape to the DVD recorder and rip the DVD onto the computer hard drive and edit with my video editing program.

I do want to get a new digital camcorder that dumps the video on a SD card.
