View Full Version : What would you like Stevie do in the new year?

Apparently, as she recently quoted, Stevie is excited for the new year, but doesn't know why, despite not having any plans.

Surely this would be the place for her to get some ideas.

I suggest she records an album with Fleetwood Mac, while also putting together a companion compilation to the Enchanted box. It could feature material that was overlooked, her random released new recordings, as well as demos and unreleased stuff from her "vault."

Stevie needs to get working on her next solo record and not wait for FM to decide what if anything they are going to do...This is just my take on things but I don't think anything regarding any future FM project with or without CM is in the works just yet...It all just seems to be a lot of he said she said rumours speculation and a lot of wish full thinking...Stevie should start her next record and if FM decides to record LB can send Stevie some tracks like Mike Campbell or Dave did and have Stevie write some lyrics and put some vocals on the tracks and send them back to FM...

+1 on that.

A new Mac album would be lovely, but I'm kind of scared of Lindsey's production these days. I haven't really truly enjoyed (as opposed to just respecting aspects of) a studio album of his since UTS, and his production on the EP was just blechy, to these ears. I'm hoping the band will have a bit more outside input if they attempt to release more new material.

I'd be happy with a solo album, too. I loved IYD. Although I do think solo-Steive could benefit from some outside input regarding some of her lyrics, but that's probably a bit pie-in-the-sky like at this point. It'd be fun to see her find another collaborator that she'd be as excited about as Dave Stewart, but another album with him involved would suit me fine too.

Anyway, yeah, releasing new material is my highly original suggestion for Stevie this year. ;)

Get back to basics and record, record, record and release. That's what I want Stevie to do in 2014.

No touring - no matter what.

I feel like a huge reason for there being so few Stevie Nicks and/or Fleetwood Mac albums is that they have some weird compulsion to tour after every single one. it's almost an *excuse* to not record new music.

A Fleetwood Mac album, with Christine. A new solo album from Stevie. A new compilation or box set would also be great. Reissues of her back catalog. Reissues of Mirage.

All of this is possible, if they wanted it.

Well it looks like Stevie is planning on working on the "Rhiannon project" again...

The iconic performer is getting ready to revisit her long-gestating "Rhiannon" project.

"I already have some friends that are working with me and we are really starting to put it into shape and form. I may never have four or five months off again in my life and I have it right now, so I’m going to do that," she reveals, noting she'd prefer to produce the entry as a feature film.

"I also think it would be an amazing miniseries because it's long. It’s a lot of stories that are all connected and all amazing," Nicks says. "It couldn’t just be one movie and if it can’t be what I want, then I won’t do it. So I’m just going to work on it for a couple months and see how it comes out."

When pressed if she'd be open for another reunion with Murphy to produce the project, she laughs before getting serious. "That's a very good idea," she says.

In Your Dreams was dazzling- probably the highest quality album of Stevie's solo career. However, now it's time for the Mac's return to form. I think Christine's reunion with the band will remedy any warts that Extended Play and even Say You Will exhibited. Christine has never made a bad studio album... with or without Fleetwood Mac (and yes, I'm counting the Pre-1975 years). It's not just that she's a talented artist- I think she demands a certain quality from everyone she works with. We haven't had a studio album from our 5 Fireflies in 27 years. I need just one more.

All that being said, if Christine doesn't return to the band in a recording capacity, Stevie & Lindsey should just go back to their solo careers. Extended Play was plain abysmal. Yet, I think Seeds We Sow & In Your Dreams are career highlights for these two. So if they can't mesh together anymore, then let them go back to being brilliant separately. :)

In most of her AHS interviews, Stevie has mentioned being off for 5 months (to work on her Rhiannon film, of course), that makes me think there are a few possibilities:
1. Fleetwood Mac will tour in the Summer with or without Christine. Probability: High
2. Fleetwood Mac will return to the studio with Christine to record a new album. Probability: Moderate
3. Stevie will tour by herself this Summer. Probability: Very High
4. Stevie will return to the studio to record a solo album. Probability: Low
5. RavenOfRhiannon does not know what the frack he's talking about. Probability: Extremely High

I really want Stevie to do it all but I am a realist. I expect touring either with FM or alone, which to me distracts from making music as time runs out.

I want a new FM album with Christine. fast. A long album like SYW with like six stellar Stevie songs "overproduced" as only Lindsey can do it. To me that would be paradise. Alongside this, a new box set of Stevie's work since "Enchanted" including soundtrack things and so on.

I want a new solo album full of moody tearjerkers, preferably without Dave Stewart's songwriting but with his production.

And WTF is the Rhiannon film project and how can it be done in 4-5 months?

Right? It takes YEARS for films to come together even if they have major endorsers like Spielberg behind them. I can't imagine Stevie has any big industry folks backing her on this. After all, the target audience would be so small.

Someone should put togehter a timeline of the Rhiannon project, complete with all the press mentions and Stevie mentions. Hell, while we're at it, throw in the demos that we THINK are part of the song cycle.

To be fair, she didn't say she intended to finish it in 5 months -- only that she's taking this opportunity to "shape" and "form" it.

I think it's cool that she's still passionate about this project after all of these years. Despite the extremely long gestation, maybe it really will see the light of day in the future.

As for what I'd like to see Stevie do this year....

I previously had little interest in a new Fleetwood Mac album, if it were only going to be Stevie & Lindsey. I'd much rather Stevie focus on a new solo album, in that case. But, if Christine really does return to the fold, then I would love for a new studio album to come to fruition this year. Or for the band to at least begin recording.

Beyond that, expanded/remastered editions of Stevie's solo albums would be fantastic, as would a collection of demos & outtakes.

The one thing that I don't want Stevie to do this year, either solo or with FM, is more touring. There are so many better ways for her to make use of her time, IMO.

Great thread, PenguinHead!

I SO agree! "Extended Play" was bland & forgettable, instead of it making me want more, it just confirmed to me that Stevie was spot on in her trepidation about recording with Lindsey again in Fleetwood Mac as a foursome on a full length project. Besides the material being at best, middle of the road, I was also extremely disappointed with the production, having had high hopes with the addition of Mitchell Froom. However, I don't think he's to blame for "Without You" and it's abysmal & overbearing guitar mix. That, I believe, was produced by Stevie & Lindsey.

Anyway, so unless Stevie is being deliberately canny and throwing the media off saying she "may" concentrate on her "Rhiannon" project in the next 5 months to side step any mention or rumors/predictions about Christine re-joining the band, I find her comment about focusing on her "Rhiannon" project completely disingenuous. Besides, if she really were to focus on this project, she'd be more in it for 1-2 years!

I believe it's too soon to even mention to the press the possibility of Christine's return - John hasn't even recovered from his "tiny" operation and announced a full recovery yet. So even though Christine may have sent over material to Lindsey, I really don't believe anything has been set in stone, nothing will be decided until John's health is fully restored. Stevie very possibly may also have sent demos over to Lindsey as well. She reportedly has recorded some stuff/demos w/Dave Stewart in 2012, possibly for another solo project or whatever.

What I want for 2014 is a solid 12 song FM record (4 from each songwriter) with Christine, produced by an amazing producer & sound engineer (not Lindsey). If not, then I wish for all 3 to concentrate on solo projects (period!) and hopefully if FM tours in 2014, it's just to make up the Australian/New Zealand leg - yeah, I know, wishful thinking!!

New solo album or tour dates. Whichever she's comfortable with. New Mac album would probably take waaay too long to record, with or without Chris. I can just imagine the fights and disagreements about every little thing. Remember "Destiny Rules"? And given how subpar "Extended Play" was, forget it.

This!

I loved the backdrops when Stevie started using them after the 2005 Vegas shows, but they don't work too well at Red Rocks which is where I usally see her.
