View Full Version : Favoite Stevie lyric lines that stick....
Here are three of my favorite lines from Stevie songs that have always stuck with me to chant.....
If I live to see the seven womders...
You will never get away, never get away.....
You said even if I.......
And the lady is feeling just like the moon that she loves / Don't you know that the stars are a part of us
I don't know why exactly, but this part of the song is absolute magic to me. I am almost physically incapable of not singing this line out loud when I listen to it. To the dismay of all around me.

This is my favorite line from the song Outside The Rain. Great writing!
Love is a word that some entertain
If you find it, you have won the game
Somebody said... outside in the rain....

There are so many, but I love the lyrics:
And the days go by
like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own
I begin again.

And to those that I love like a ghost through a fog, like a charmed hour and a haunted song and the angel of my dreams...I think that's my favorite. :)

There are angels here on Earth. Angels sent from God.
Don't ever dance with the devil. He will burn you down.
Take on the situation, not the torment. Now you know its not as bad as it seems.
Even when you feel like your life is fading, I know that you'll go on forever cuz you're that good
Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind

Oh yeah! I love:
No love's that hard to find / And I'm tired of, and I'm tired of trying
Also, from No Spoken Word:
Well I play too hard / Still I'm not tough enough
That one gets a good work out in my car.
And from That's Alright:
I've been waiting, and I'm through waiting for you / The train sings the same kind of blues
and
I never did believe in time / Changing anybody's mind
And, well, pretty much all of it. I love the BN version to bits.

Yes I've been listening to that quite a bit lately, and I really love those lines.
There are so many Stevie lyrics that I love, but to start with...
So I close my eyes softly
'till I become that part of the wind
that we all long for sometimes....
To the gypsy that remains faces freedom with a little fear
I have no fear, I have only love
And if I was a child
And the child was enough
Enough for me to love
Enough to love
^^^(I chanted this to myself regularly for a while, and it seemed to have a miraculous effect)
And we listen to their voices

I've been hooked on That's Alright for months now. It's one ear worm I don't want to shake. One of my favourite lines: "Now, I can't define love like it should be, that's alright."
"Some people walk down that darkened street / with the faith of a child / and so go the faithless" and "Let's make a deal here" from No Spoken Word.

What you did was,
You saved my life
I won't forget it
I'd just broken up with someone when IYD was released. Those lines made me cry for about a month when I'd hear them.

So many for me, but this one really hits close to home
You love somebody
Save their soul
Tie them to your Heaven
Erase their Hell
Love the lifestyle
If you feel it
Don't try to change them
You never will

Wow, so many to choose from, okay here it goes.
From The Charmed Ones (City Of Hope)
Nothing…could ever hurt me like this again
And you know
In that very statement
You’re giving up
A little bit
Of your child-like nature
Blue Water (pretty much the whole lyrics to this)
And I stare at the sea
And the sea smiles for me
And the sea
Is as moving
As a lover

And when you hold yourself and know
That there were two
Now only you remain
The Tower
I'm sure it is about coming to terms with terminating a pregnancy (to Don?)
While I'm at it
All I ever wanted
Was to know
That you were dreaming
There's a heartbeat
And it never really died
Again, an elegy for the baby that wasn't to be.

Oh, where to start, there's so many great lyrical moments and she really shines with metaphor and falls down sometimes with too many wells and shes (except Rhiannon and Silver Springs of course ....:)
Mine are:
"Timeless in your finery is a high price for your luxury"
"Tell me is it over now, do you know how, to pick up the pieces and go home"
"My body tries to cry"
"Can I sail through the changing ocean tides"

"As the moon rolls over the mountain/And you are lost in your dreaming
Where is the wild white rose"
"And it brings up the wind and it rises around you/In pillars of colour"

Last year I had a little bit (well actually a BIG) problem with a guy and I was having a hell of a time trying to decide which was the right decision and so Battle of the Dragon has really stuck to me ever since as that song. Not only because I was listening so much to it then but also because in my mind it fit the situation.
"This was not pre-planned but after some calls I decided to go to the other side of the world....
I see myself remaining when all of you are gone...
No one walks away from this battle, from the power. It's so strong like a fury. Keep that fury deep inside you and wish it to end.
And when your friends start asking you why, you just say nothing"

"I said, 'It's been so long since I've been held', he said, 'I could hold you for days'. He made love to me with his eyes especially. I smiled to know I'd finally found a place, I'm going home."
"But never have I been a blue calm sea, I have always been a storm."
"I guess we tried to close our eyes but we are not children, though we try. You are not old, I am not wise. But when it was, it was fine, it was fine."
"I never did love easily but I easily loved you. And I loved with such intensity as the sea moves with the moon."
"I look at you, and I know you have not changed, still in my dreams, and still they're all the same. I had to let you go, they say all the doors are shut. But in my heart, I will never give you up."
"Don't say that she's pretty, and did you say that she loved you? Baby, I don't wanna know."
"Sometimes I feel I was always on call. Sometimes even I am allowed to fall."
"I bite my lip.. Can you send me away? You touch, I have no choice. I have to stay." (and also the way she says "I wish that you were mine" breaks my heart too)
"Faith is a hard thing to hold onto. Something inside you says "I don't have to". You're not like other people You do what you want to."
"And the lady's feeling just like the moon that she loved. Don't you know that the stars are a part of us? Oh and the lady's feeling like the moon that she loved.
And you say...well, I never thought it could... Bella donna... Come in out of the darkness..."
I used to love you, see the light inside of you. I used to dream that you were an angel. You were an angel. And I was a starving child. And we were magic."
I used to love you, see the light inside of you. I used to dream that you were an angel. You were an angel. And I was a starving child. And we were magic."
Definitely this one, yes. This is another must-sing-aloud music moment for me.

from the book Songwriters On Songwriting by Paul Zollo:
Paul Zollo: "Were you thinking of the band with the line 'never break the chain'?"
Lindsey: "You'd have to ask Stevie. For all I know I think she was talking about me."
Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
If you don't love me now you will never love me again
I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain
Wake up in the morning, see your sunrise loves to go down
Lousy lovers pick their prey but they never cry out loud
Rulers make bad lovers (particularly great line)
You better put your kingdom up for sale
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love?
And is it over now, do you know how?
To pick up the pieces and go home

Where to start? Indeed!
I have always loved her voice on......"well", so..... many songs, but one of my favourites is:
"Forest of The Black Roses", when she sings..
"And she walked into..the Forest Of the Black Roses,
Stood for everything she'd ever love,
And she asked herself well how much shall/can I give away,
Anything/everything..I love him that much,
Anything/everything..I love him that much,
Anything/everything..I love..him..that..mu...ch."

Have you come to see that my face is not seen
Ooh outside my frost-covered windows
And just how deep do you hold that dream
In your hands each night?
If not at least within
The touch of my fingers
It was close to being
In heaven
I have changed, oh but you, you remain ageless
My mind won't rest and I don't sleep
Not even in my dreams
