If any of ya'll watched it, what was your opinion of it?
I enjoyed it. It was almost as good as the movie. Nobody beats Christopher Plumber (sp?) and Julie Andrews, imo.

I came on specifically to see if anyone had commented on this--I am curious.

it was ok the acting was not outstanding , the sound was bad a hiss though out the whole show it was ok the singing was good and I am not a fan of the movie and had never heard Carrie Underwood sing let alone knew she was an american idol winner until last night .
Based on the clips I've seen, Carrie Underwood can sing very well. She just can't act. This was sort of an awkward gig for her.
It's fair to say that her voice doesn't really have the charm of Julie Andrews', but I think the people's strongly negative reactions are a little unfair. Especially given that we are comparing a studio recording of Julie to a live performance from Carrie.
But I was never a big Sound of Music fan in the first place, so maybe I just don't get the reverence for the original version. I always thought the Von Trapps were a little creepy.

Thank you for saying that, lol I've been screaming that. It was great too see this particular version on screen. Carrie was ok. The surrounding cast was way better, lol

Saw it on hulu. Horrible. Yet I still cried when Capt von Trapp's heart melts over "The Sound of Music." Then I re-watched the Julie Andrews film version--delightful.

Carrie just didn't fit the bill, honestly.
She's a fabulous singer for country/pop and even probably for more contemporary musical theatre. But for a show like this, you really need someone with a little more of a classical aire to their voice and more control over their chest/head.
She was also an absolutely AWFUL actress.
It didn't help that she was surrounded by, for the most part, well-versed broadway veterans.

NBC will do a show next year this time around and Peter Pan is tops on the list.
Who will play Peter Pan?

I love to see Stevie in place of Carrie on TSFM.
Since she's starting to enjoy acting. I think she would be great.

I'm going to disagree for a number of reasons.
For one, Stevie's about 35 years too old to play Maria. She most certainly doesn't have a soprano range anymore. Even if she did, her voice wouldn't be any more suited for the part than Carrie's was as Stevie has no musical theatre training and a very, very distinct tone. I'll reserve judgement until after AHS airs, I suppose, but I've never been overly impressed by any of Stevie's bit-acting parts in the past, and based on that I'm not sure she could believably carry a lead role (by her own admission: she's not an actress, so I wouldn't expect her to be able to).
And perhaps most importantly: Maria doesn't wear platform boots.

The show whoever the star is not my cup of tea.
But, is there a more gorgeous woman on earth
than Carrie? Not counting the 1983 version of
Stephanie Nicks of course.

Yes I see what you mean.I cant wait until see her on AHS.She could get a Emmy nod for guess star role.LOL...
I still got to watch Carrie's version some night this week since its on my hard drive.
I guess NBC had good ratings on Carrie's TSOM airing and they are going to do these classic remakes yearly now on for the holidays.

And you know she'd embellish everything. We'd still be there. "And welll, I said, deep in the middle of the night baybay, could you hear that sound? That sound of that music? With songs that I have sung... I have given that to you!"

I probably end up watching Rodolph on CBS.
P.S. Due to the snow storm we having tonight . The local stations screwed up the viewing tonight with their annoying break ins and a bull crap scroll at the bottom of the screen so I said screw TV tonight and I will watch the video online later.
What the heck. They think its the end of the world every time there is a storm here.

I watched Rudolph too. It's my number 1 Christmas show.
Followed by The Grinch and Frosty. And of course Charlie
Brown.
It's funny how much criticism Carrie has received from
starring in this show. I think she was brave just to try it.
