OK, I'm lost, what is the story behind the cover art on the GH album.

The picture is of an orange blossom. Christine's Mother was reputed to be a psychic. She stated that Christine/Fleetwood Mac would find success in the music business in a place that is surrounded by orange groves. Apparently the area of Southern California where the band met up with Stevie & Lindsey was known for it's orange groves.

Wow, interesting, thanks. Knew it'd get a quick answer here.

Stevie and Lindsey lived on Orange Grove. It was one of the intersections where there place was.

Your life will be ruined on Orange Grove, Christine. It's like turning over the Ace of Spades and knowing death is around the corner.

Did her mother say this to her? Or are you being facetious about the cover art?

Her mother didn't say her life would be ruined. Her mother just said "you will find it on Orange Grove" according to Stevie. And Stevie said Christine thought she'd be going to Florida where there were beautiful orange groves or something. Instead, she just got Stevie and Lindsey who lived on ... I think Fair Oaks and Orange Grove.

Didn't Dennis Dunstan create that image?

Yes, he told me he did. He said that design at the top of this page is his.

What's interesting is that he seems to have taken that design from amongst the Japanese culture. I was watching Hara-Kiri (Death of a Samurai) by Takaashi Miike and that specific flower is featured prominently in the film.

On Rockline in 1988, this question was asked. Nobody in the band had any input into the cover art and they discussed their individual speculations. This is when they mentioned the things about the orange grove, Orange St., etc.
How can nobody have say on their own album art???

Most all greatest hits compilations are assembled exclusively by record companies, and the artists themselves are rarely involved with them. Many artists object to them, in fact... but most record label contracts contain clauses for the record company to assemble & release greatest hits packages at will. Lindsey alluded to this regarding the the Very Best of Fleetwood Mac back when it dropped.

Stevie alluded to the same thing at a Crystal Visions show I attended.

I love it too! I'm using the flower for another site I'm designing.

I remember Christine saying, "The Orange Grove represents Stevie and Lindsey. And they all started laughing. I believe this was on Rockline as well.

It only took us a little over five years.

I believe it was Fairfax and Orange Grove that Stevie said she and Lindsey lived on.

Interesting, I did not know the story behind that icon.

There is an alternate cover also, that features a Dance-era shot of the band.
