Thanks for the post!
What's more, the second season of Oprah's Master Class will showcase still more household names, including Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Nicks, Diahann Carroll and Susan Sarandon, music mogul Berry Gordy, supermodel Cindy Crawford and journalist Tom Brokaw. New episodes of Oprah: Where Are They Now? will focus on Apprentice alum Omarosa, rapper Bow Wow, Octomom Nadya Suleman, Dennis Rodman, Gennifer Flowers, Heidi Fleiss and Columbine Families. Both programs will return in March.
It says Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Nicks... does that mean we'll get half an hour Kravitz and half an hour Stevie??? Kind of confusing

I think they've grouped the various "types" of people together.
Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Nicks - musicians
Diahann Caroll and Susan Sarandon - actresses
Berry Gordy - music mogul
Cindy Crawford - supermodel
Tom Brokaw - journalist
But, it could also be that the ones who have no comma separating them are part of the same show. Either or.

Looks to me like Stevie has her own episode. Season 3, episode 3, is labelled only 'Stevie Nicks'.
I'm pretty excited for this by the way. I like the idea of Stevie telling us stories from her life and lessons she's learned. Stevie is literally what inspired me to go to rehab and get clean off opiates and coke. I always tell people that she saved my life.

Cool, but what is this program, exactly? A kind of interview thing with Oprah, where one discusses one's career and success and struggles and so on?

If it's like the other Master Classes, it's a first person account basically of their lives... It's an interesting concept and the few I've seen were cool to watch. For instance here's Jon Bon Jovi. Oprah narrates the set up then lets the artist take off speaking... You don't hear the questions being asked to prompt them to speak about themselves, they just speak.

i've never watched Oprah's Master Class before, so i've been going through some clips from Goldie Hawn's episode. i really like the format, but it made me wonder...do you think this will bring forth any new information we don't already know? it does seem quite the different show; i can see the potential for some new insights.

Somehow I have a feeling it will be a lot of the same stories we've heard throughout the years. But hopefully a few new things.
And if nothing else, I'm sure there will be a few nuances in her retellings that will be fun to pick apart & analyze

I think we might learn one or two new things. She'll probably show us a few pics we've never seen before from her childhood and we might get to see a few snippets of some great live performances from the 1970's that we'll be begging to see the whole of, but they will never be revealed again, anywhere. I sound so optimistic, don't I?

ah well, that just comes with the territory :xoxo:
i hope she can open up a bit more - like i said, i was watching goldie hawn, and when she was talking it felt so real, like she wasn't putting on a show. i'm not saying stevie isn't honest, i just think she can come across as being a bit more performative in recent years. maybe since there will be no audience we'll get something more real, if that makes sense

Well, you know how she talks so much to Jim Ladd. I was thinking that she may be prompted to go into stream of consciousness like that by this format. But, of course, the presence of the cameras may make her more aware that she's doing this for an audience and cause her to be more restrained.

Oprah and Stevie always seem like such a mismatch to me. Oprah is so cut-to-the-chase, tell-it-like-it-is/was kinda person, no sugar coating, and Stevie is just the opposite... filter everything thru rose-colored glasses and make even the really sh&ttiest stuff sound romantic. Plus Oprah likes to get right to it and Stevie tells such long, meandering stories. it could make for some very interesting television.

Oh, Oprah can make Stevie get pretty concise. "What? Oh Christine and I always had bodyguards. We never did anything on the road. We couldn't go out. We never saw a man. And I always took my make up off before going to bed."

I think this interview took something like 6 hours. The folks at Oprah edit it to one hour for air of course. She was very excited to do it though. And no, Oprah doesn't do the interviews for Masterclass. The questions are all asked off camera, via satellite I think. The series is very well done.

Wonder if Stevie and her team got the editorial review/control that they have demanded (and gotten) the last however many years... the right to see the final product and approve before broadcast or ask for deletions/changes. I would be disappointed if Oprah gave anyone that kind of control.
Not sure who got editorial control but SN seemed pleased with the experience. I think the stories will depend on the questions asked. I know she was asked a lot about her family because she provided lots of old photos.

This would be neat. I haven't been watching much Oprah in a while, but I watched when she interviewed Steven Tyler. I like when she goes to the person's house and walks around, and all that. I hope that is how the Stevie show is, and that Stevie gets a full hour to herself. Of course, she SHOULD get two full hours. I mean, she is much more interesting than Lance Armstrong, lol! And please, please, let Sheryl Crow NOT be there. However, Lori and Sharon, that would be cool. Ending with a little acapella song. We can dream, right? ;)

I believe that the "Oprah's Next Chapter" show is where Oprah goes to the person's house and does an hour or so long interview.... "Oprah's Master Class" is pretty much the person talks directly to camera with a black backdrop and shares insight from where they've learned their greatest lessons in life....
SN's promo clip was her saying how you better have an extra $50,000 if you decide to do coke, cuz that's how much rehab is....

I'm already annoyed with the quick camera switching plus the background music.
Is this normal on Oprah 's shows.
This is why I cant stand watching any programs on Home and Garden channel and some other cable channels with their sloppy productions.
Anyway I just cant wait to see if she says anything new.

The show is an hour long. After commercials it'll probably be about 37 minutes. After all the previews we've gotten it should run about 32 min. I just hope it all doesn't take place in this darkened room she's sitting in.

Stevie Nicks - Stevie Nicks Wonders What Life Would Be Like If She Turned Down Fleetwood Mac
22 March 2013
Rocker Stevie Nicks fears Fleetwood Mac drove a wedge between her and ex-lover and bandmate Lindsey Buckingham, and they could have enjoyed a lasting romance with kids had she not convinced her boyfriend to join the group.
In a candid new interview with Oprah Winfrey for her Master Class Tv series, the Landslide singer admits she still considers what might have been if she had decided not to become a member of the supergroup.
She tells Winfrey that Buckingham has always blamed the tensions within Fleetwood Mac for the couple's bitter break-up, and she's beginning to think he may be right.
Nicks says, "Had we not joined Fleetwood Mac we would've continued on with our music but we probably would've gotten married, and we probably would've had a child. It would've been a different life and it's very possible that we might have gotten married, had a family, and still done our music. You know, we were still young enough then that destiny could've taken us another way but destiny did not take us that way. Destiny took us straight into Fleetwood Mac.
"Mick (Fleetwood) called on New Year's Eve and I went down to Tower Records and I bought, like, all their records... and I went home, and I listened to all of them, twice. And, at the end of listening to these records, I said, 'I think that we can add to this band... I think they have a real kind of witchy side that would appeal to us. And I think we can add to this band. And we can make some money, Lindsey, so we should join this band.' And he's like, 'I don't know... I'm really loving this record that we're making.'
"Of course, I'm, at this point, after I've already thought about maybe going back to school, I'm like, 'Listen, I'm tired of being a waitress. I don't want to do that anymore. So we need to join the band.' And he said Ok and that was it, and we went into rehearsal a couple days later."
But she still has no regrets about joining the group, even though it's often tough to work in the studio and onstage with a former soulmate: "It's really hard, you know, when you break up with somebody or somebody breaks up with you and you're in this band, and you have to see them the next day in the hotel... And guess who you get to go onstage with tomorrow night?"

Singer says Buckingham always blamed the band for their break-up
Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks has opened up about her break-up with fellow bandmate Lindsey Buckingham.
Speaking in an interview on Oprah's Master Class on Saturday (March 24) the singer opens up about breaking up with Buckingham, which famously happened when the group began work on their seminal 1977 album 'Rumours'. The album was recorded at California's now-defunct Sound City studios – and features in Dave Grohl's new documentary Sound City.
"The band was way more important than each separate person's problems," Nicks says in a video teaser for the interview, which you can watch below. "And we knew that. So we never, ever, with everything that happened to us, ever, let love affairs break Fleetwood Mac up. But Lindsey always blamed Fleetwood Mac for the loss of me. Had we not joined Fleetwood Mac we would've continued on with our music but we probably would've gotten married, and we probably would've had a child."
Fleetwood Mac are set to come to the UK as part of a forthcoming world tour. Speaking about UK tour dates, drummer Mick Fleetwood recently said: "We're doing a big world tour that starts in April. We're coming here [the UK] in September, October and maybe a bit longer. We're doing a lot of work here so we are coming." The drummer also revealed that there is a new Fleetwood Mac album in the pipeline and that new songs will be released online in the coming months.
The band were rumored to be making their debut appearance on the Pyramid Stage at this years' Glastonbury Festival, however a string of US dates announced over the same weekend makes this seem unlikely.

Stevie Nicks: 'I carried a gram of cocaine in my boot at all times'

During an interview for Oprah Winfrey's Master Class series, the Fleetwood Mac star said that it took a visit to a plastic surgeon for her to realize the damage she was doing to her body.
I carried a gram of cocaine in my boot at all times," she confessed.
"I went to a plastic surgeon and he looked in my nose and said, 'You have a really big hole in your nose; it's very dangerous... Your next hit of coke could be your last hit of anything'.
According to Khon2, Nicks referred to cocaine as a "stupid drug" and said that anyone who currently takes it had better start saving up for treatment.

Stevie Nicks Opens Up On Cocaine Use And Her Affair With Mick Fleetwood
In early 1975, when Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, she was more into music than drugs. But by 1977, going into the making of Fleetwood Mac’s "Rumors" album, Nicks had gone from being aware of cocaine to buying and using it regularly. In a new episode of “Oprah’s Master Class,” airing on Sunday, March 24, at 10 p.m. ET on OWN, the singer opens up about her drug addiction, how it led to a reckless affair with bandmate Mick Fleetwood and what years of cocaine use did to her body.
In this clip from the episode, Nicks looks back on her cocaine use, saying, “I can remember thinking to myself at that point, ‘Wow. Who knew four years ago that I would even be a part of anything that was this stupid?’”
Part of that stupidity, Nicks says, was spending so much money on cocaine. “Two weeks’ worth of cocaine could have paid our rent for six months,” she observes. Perhaps even worse than spending money so wildly was how the dangerous drug changed Nicks and the people around her.
“It turned people into nutcases,” she says in the clip. “Mick and I never would have had an affair had we not had a party and all been completely drunk, messed up and coked out. [We] ended up being the last two people at the party. So guess what? It’s not hard to figure out what happened -- and what happened wasn’t a good thing. It was doomed. It was a doomed thing, caused a lot of pain for everybody, led to nothing. I’m like, ‘Gee, could you have just laid off the brandy and the coke and the pot for two days?’”
It was an unattractive side of Nicks’ that she now recognizes, even though she (and many others) thought she looked beautiful at the time. “You didn’t look beautiful,” Nicks says now to her younger self. “You looked high. And unattractive. So unattractive.”
In the clip, Nicks reveals how a plastic surgeon’s harsh words to her after a visit in 1986 -- "Your last hit of coke could be your last hit of anything. This hole in your nose… could kill you” -- helped drive her to rehab. She also shares her advice for those who might be struggling with addiction today.
Watch the full interview with Stevie Nicks on “Oprah’s Master Class” on Sunday, March 24, at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.

Maybe it was because of this post that I had it rolling around in the back of my head.
It came from a brief discussion in the "If You Could Ask Stevie One Question" thread. My question was, are you in touch with Robyn's son."

Still with the "breakfast room" after all these years.
I thought the show was really good and we did get new details even about the stories we already knew.
I wondered how she thought she would have so much time with Barbara left when Barbara fundraised for AHI due to her heart problem, also had ephysema for years and was in her eighties. So, how could she think she would have her around forever?? But then she said that the women in her family live so long, so maybe that's why. I know my mother is in her seventies and I always worry about her mortality. I guess since my father and grandmother died, I think about it more than I would have before.
Anyway, I wondeer if the women in Stevie's family are mentally sound in their own age.
To be poor, it sounded like Lindsey and Stevie rented a pretty big place in their youth. I mean, it had a basement.
I like her mentioning her dad liked DLMDA and it being in the letter she wrote to them back home.

I cried when she talked about her marriage to Kim and trying to raise Matthew. At the time when it happened, I always thought how crazy that Stevie would do that. I know she has explained it in a few other interviews, but I never got it. Last night, I got it. She was trying to do what she thought was best for Matthew. Stevie was raised with "rules" and wanted a stable family life for him, but they were too crazy and drugged out for that to happen. It was a very emotional moment. I felt bad for her.

I still think she's had an easy life. Drug taking is a choice. I watched it with my mother, brother and sister in law. It was the usual exagerations and little white lies and it focused wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much on her drug problems. She told all the same stories I've heard a million times and each time she tells them she changes the story a little bit. I did tear up when she was tearing up about Robin but then I caught my SIL lookin' at me at that moment out of the corner of my eye.
The lighting was terrible. Stevie looks so much better than that in person. You don't have to be an alcoholic to go to AA. I got clean in AA. My drug of choice was marijuana but I went to AA at first because it was a Gay AA and they have the same 12 step program of N/A. She's still blaming the Doctor for her addiction.

Yes I agree with the drug and booze problems.
Yes I did tear up when she was talking about Robin and her son Matt.It was nice to she the photo with Stevie and Matt.
Yes They should of done the interview outside in the sun or something better then that video. I looked great when I was on the news last week because I was outside.I know I needed a shave but my face did not look bad on Hi def TV.
The background music was annoying and also the quick camera angle changes were making me dizzy .Thats normal for cable TV productions these days.Just watch some Home and Garden Network shows. You feel like you been on a roller coaster ride while sitting in your favorite seat in front of your tele.

I completely disagree. Addiction of any kind is not a choice. Take it for the first time was a choice and that is the only point we can truly debate. One side would argue that in that timeframe, ignorance was prevailing and everyone thought it was recreational. You could still judge her for that if you choose but that is no different in thought than you thinking you can break the speed limit by 5mph. It's a choice that you don't believe will have consequences. However, when it turned from recreational use to dependence, that was not her choice and it's incredibly hard to kick. I'm amazed she kicked it with one trip to rehab per drug. Unlike a Lindsey Lohan, Robert Downey, etc - those people needed multiple treatments.
It looks like she had an easy life to some - but that is perception and easy to say when we did not live it. Our reality is completely different. I commend her for the message she delivers to people. We need more of this type of person in the world.

Thank you!
There wasn't a lot of new info (for die hard fans) but it was still very interesting. The part about Robin was the most poignant, I almost started crying with her! The personal pictures where very nice, I finally know what Matthew looks like and those "new" Fritz and BN pics were pretty damn cool (the other pics were a little bit dissapointing, all generic Gettyimages and Corbis stuff).
Oh, I liked the pictures too. You know we've all seen shots of Lindsey holding both Christine and Stevie's necks in the crooks of his elbow, but the one they showed last night seemed different. The look on Christine's face seemed so relaxed as she leaned back into him. It struck me. I've seen the photos where they looked like they were gagging, but in that one last night Christine looked kind of blissed.

Of course nobody voluntarily enlists for an addiction to drugs. That's just like voluntarily driving a speeding car into a brick wall. But, like you said, in Stevie's case, it seemed to stem from a sense of infallibility/immortality, which thereby led her to ignore the possible consequences of her actions. Such willful ignorance is a choice. She absolutely knew what she was getting into.
Has she been through a lot in her life? Absolutely. Was it a rough life? I think you should ask someone who has genuinely had a rough life- poverty, broken homes, major health issues, family tragedy, violence, physical abuse, etc.- all things that are noticeably absent from the narrative of Stevie's life.

I loved the show...
Wanted to chime in on the drug use.
You would have had to have lived in the 60's and 70's to understand the ignorance that went along with most all drug use. "The Man" told horror stories of what would happen, and nobody young listened to "the man." There's nothing to compare it to today that I can see. It was such a different time. Sort of like smoking in the 20's and 30's.
The doc that prescribed her benzo's should have had his license revoked. He would today I'm sure.
Benzo's are the absolute hardest drug to get off. Harder than coke, heroin, cigs, etc. You absolutely CAN DIE. I'm very very surprised that she could kick it in 47 days. You have to taper and it's HELL. The after effects can last up to 3 years and are not pleasant. As far as realizing what was happening, how could she? Those drugs purposely give you a feeling of well being. It's not until it's too late that you might realize there's a problem.
Just my 2.5 cents. Sorry for the book. It's a subject I have some passion for.
Long live Stevie and all of us fantastic fans! ;)

I liked the show. A bit more detail, some new pics. I felt that she was a lot more open & honest than in the past, and definitely more emotional. And I thought she looked great - the way a beautiful 64 year old woman should! No fuzzy lenses, no camera trickery.

I'm not going to begrudge Stevie for the fortunes she has had in life (and some of those "fortunes" are simply the lack of some misfortune that others may have faced). That doesn't mean she hasn't been through hard times. She's been blessed beyond belief, for sure, in her career and in her finances, but aside from that how much can we really judge? We will never know because we will never live what she lived. And I'd venture to say that there's plenty of things that have happened that she chooses not to talk about. She continually talks about things that are already public knowledge for a reason.
I really enjoyed this interview and found it very insightful. It was interesting hearing things told in this sort of a setting without an interviewer interrupting and trying to push questions on her.

I respect your opinion but let me tell you that I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I remember in Elementary school we were shown films about the dangers of drug use. PCP was one particular drug they told us about that scared the crap outta me. This film was shown to me in 1973. I definately listened to 'the man.' Another complaint I have about Stevie is that, yes she was an alcoholic. She was drunk every day for many years. Even relying on a shot of tequila before going onstage makes you an alcoholic. I never believed her when she said she took a shot because someone who had spent as many years as she had drinking would need a heck of a lot more than a shot to calm ones nerves.
While I'm on my tangent, I was mad they used a Tusk Stevie photo when referencing the Buck/Nicks/Fritz days and I only saw about 5 pics I'd never seen before.

I remember when I was crying when Stevie went through the bout with the Betty Ford Clinic,I was so upset and scared about losing her .
Drugs and booze hit to close to home here.My mother and step dad has a problem with the booze and in which I think it contribute to their health issues later in their life and lost both of them in their 70's.
I've lost close friends do to drugs and booze. Some were killed driving while drunk.
Others died just so young.
My close friend got hooked on booze and drugs in while in school and later in the 1980's .He went through the dry out center a few times. He is the same age as me and I known him since we were born.He doing better now.
I'm glad I was not dragged into the bit do to peer pressure .
On Stevie's case .I think some of it had to do with peer pressure with the part of being in the music biz were artists have the cash and easy to get.
As the ole saying Sex/Drugs and Rock and roll.
Or it does not matter what kind of music.
The police cant hide out at all the recording studios and watch for staggering artists walking out and into the studios.
I'm so proud of her getting out of those habits and got healthier.
Ok .No Problem guys .I love sharing videos and audio tracks with all of you.Enjoy them.

I thought she looked fabulous in all the candid photos of her with her brother and her mom. Those were really recent and she looked AMAZING in some of them and like she was 35-- and they were candid shots, not professionally done. She looked younger in those than in the show.
I thought it was very interesting that she said, in talking about Matthew , "I just wanted to get my hands on that baby". I've read several different interviews with people around her where those very words were used "she really just wanted to get her hands on that baby". I think it was a time when Stevie was still on some level dealing with children she didn't have (not to bring up a controversial subject) and on some twisted level (not evil twisted, just drug-fueled fantasy twisted) she felt like this baby was brought into her life to, I don't know, maybe compensate for all that. I don't think it was so much about creating a home for the kid as it was more about her trying to fulfill a need of her own. I suspect the realities of a baby and childrearing opened her eyes pretty quickly.... Still, I thought it was honest of her to use those words.
I *did* wonder though about her reference to her relationship with Mick-- is she pissed at him for something? Usually she says "I loved Mick and Mick loved me but it couldn't work so we ended it" (though really he ended it by going off with Sara, but I digress...) But she was very unromantic about it on this show... drugs were to blame, it hurt a lot of people and for what.... "it led to nothing". Just a quite different tone than she usually takes about that whole relationship.

I'll help: She's rich and famous.
And even before she became rich and famous, apparently she grew up in a loving family with supportive parents. She grew up with affluent parents. She was pretty blessed even before she became a star. Many people in showbusiness have escaped horrible pasts and that's what fueled their ambition and drive -- and substance use. As far as we know, Stevie didn't have to do that, so that gave her a leg up even before worldwide success came.
For years, Siskel & Ebert used to praise this "Up" series that looked at the same set of children from different backgrounds starting at age 7 and then continuing every 7 years to see how their lives had changed. The documentary began in 1964 and they've just released their newest installment where those 7 year old kids are now 56! I didn't watch it when I first heard about it, but because I wanted to see 56 up, I caught up on all the old ones and it's just amazing how much of these children's lives were shaped from age 7, just based on the families that they were born into. The majority of them became what life had mapped out for them to become at birth.
Now, there are always exceptions. That's the American success story (the Up kids are British), where you come from humble beginnings and evolve into a self-made millionaire, but that's very rare. That's why it remains the "dream."
If your origins begin well, if you don't face abuse and hardship (emotional or financial) early on, then that's the beginning of blessings that often just snowball. I think they did for Stevie.
I mean, listening to her talk about her struggling years last night, when they barely had enough food, we know very well that even those weren't all that bad. I mean, if you call Dad from Aspen for an emergency plane ticket to get back to Los Angeles because you have fought with your fiery boyfriend who drove off in a huff (because you told him your dad was the vice president of Greyhound and you didn't need a car) and took your dog with him and your dad sends you that plane ticket, even though he is disapproving, then you know good and well Dad will also send you food money, when it comes right down to it.
Plus, your boyfriend who lived in the same nice gated community that you lived in also has parents who will probably send him money too, if he kind of begs.
Even her down and out years weren't the downest and outest.

..I don't get this new trend of blessed everyone is so blessed i see it all over twitter and facebook
that's not "BLESSED" that is usually the result of hard work , but in her case luck , Money make things easier both good things and bad . and fame is not all it's cracked up to be , people who crave it usually have a reason a need to feel loved .she's more tragic she gave up a man she loved for a career , she gave up any children for a career drugs almost took the career and her life she's lucky she had a man who took her with him fleetwood mac did not want her she survived drug addition twice and she still has a viable career that's luck and determination

I think the way the word blessed has been used, it's interchangeable with the word "lucky." I mean, it's just a word choice, maybe it has to do with religious upbringing or maybe it doesn't, but basically they words are synonymous, used this way. If I narrowly escape getting hit by a train I might say I was blessed or I might say I was lucky, but I'd mean the same thing.

I recall in a 2003 audio interview she basically said what she said in this interview. She called it a stupid mistake.
I don't think that her perception of him as one of her great loves necessarily has much to do with the affair at all, honestly. I think she might consider him one even if that whole disaster had never happened.

I was going to pull out a few things that I agree with and highlight them, but reread the post and realized, I agree 100% with your entire thought process here.
I highlighted your comment about filling her own need because I thought the same thing. Grief is very tricky and can warp your reality when you're stable, but throw in the drugs and perhaps even a maternal instint that was flickering and I can see this playing out.
I highlighted the "it led to nothing" comment of Stevie's because I personally detected "a woman scorned" when she said it. It was a quick and slightly bitter response (in my opinion)
She also said the only reason "it" happened was because they were the last two left standing at the end of the night . . . yet some days he's the love of her life. Maybe only when she's not pissed at him, lol.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who heard the Mick comment and detected an undercurrent of.... something.
Though if as someone said she described the relationship in a similar fashion as far back as 2003, maybe it isn't about anything recent but about something else. SYW was in 2003, wasn't it? Would she have been miffed at him for something related to that whole deal? I guess we'll never know. Maybe it's just time and age changing one's perspective on various relationships (Joe, Mick, etc...)

Another complaint I have about Stevie is that, yes she was an alcoholic. She was drunk every day for many years. Even relying on a shot of tequila before going onstage makes you an alcoholic. I never believed her when she said she took a shot because someone who had spent as many years as she had drinking would need a heck of a lot more than a shot to calm ones nerves.
I know Stevie liked brandy, but I've never heard that she was "drunk every day for many years." I'm not sure what you're basing your diagnosis on, having no real personal knowledge of Stevie's life. How do you know how much she was drinking each day, and for what period of time?
Addictive personality? Yes. Drug addict? Absolutely. Alcoholic? I don't know about that...
And having a shot before a show is hardly a reliance on alcohol. Much more likely it was more of a tradition, or it was in her head that she needed it before going on.
It's true. She told us the doctor just started her on a couple of blue pills and then she built up to more gradually. Giving that all to Glen for the first time really could have done him some serious damage.

As someone else mentioned, she was blessed to grow up with a loving & supportive family who cared for her & supported her. Family members were all healthy & happy according to all accounts. She was blessed with intelligence & talent as well.
What do YOU qualify as "blessed?"

I think Stevie thinks she had a rough life. She was used to food on the table, she never had to worry about gas money or having money period. But than she lives with Lindsey and all of a sudden she has to work to make rent, food, gas etc. For a rich girl that's rough. I'm sure both families supported them but they had to ask for it and that was rough. As someone pointed out (I think it was Ed) she never had to deal with a broken home, violence, emotional/physical abuse (that we know of) or real poverty. For some people having a slice of pizza or a hotdog for dinner is a feast, for her it was a sign of poverty. So in her mind she had it rough.
As for the addiction, speaking as an addict myself, it's not a choice. The very first time you take drugs or alcohol or whatever it is, it triggers something inside you never knew existed and you become addicted to that feeling. As I understand it, coke makes you feel you're on top of the world, you can do anything you want to, all your insecurities are gone. I've never used it myself but I've listened to people who did and they all say the same thing: you feel like you're the bomb. It's basically the same thing for me with alcohol. It made me feel like I was this awesome, funny party girl who just did crazy things when she was a little buzzed (when in actual fact I was drunk out of my mind , not awesome and funny at all and I made huge mistakes, mistakes I still regret even though I made them 25 years ago). For me it's easy to understand why she got addicted to coke and applaud her, she went to rehab once and that was it. It took me several times to finally say:"Enough". And the Klonopin.... I get the addiction to it but what I don't get is why she never sued that doctor. Or made his name public. This dr. should have his licence revoked, he's a danger to his patients.

I respect your opinion as well, but I've never known a true alcoholic to go from a drunk to a social drinker. I shouldn't have made a blanket statement that nobody listened. Of course not everyone was doing drugs, although at times it was hard to tell! ;)
Edit: Wow!! I've been here for almost four years and only have 83 posts??

Right ..alcoholism is a progressive disease. One does not go from a dysfunctional drinker that drinks to intoxication every time they drink to suddenly being able to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with dinner and have no further incidences of binges..It just does not happen.

Yes, and they've all been relatively blessed in life as well. You can have hardships AND be blessed. One doesn't negate the other.
And for the record, I've met Honey Boo Boo and her family and they were WONDERFUL people. Kind and genuine when they didn't need to be. I don't believe they've thrown away their self-respect - rather, they respect themselves enough to be proud of their lifestyle regardless of how the general public perceives it. But that's a discussion for another thread.

I do take away how pleased she must have been when asked to do a Master Class though....
Every chance she's had, SN has said she always wanted to teach... Be it thru her music and/or her life stories... So for that alone, good for her

I was thinking more about this interview today and decided I've been too harsh. Overall it was a good interview. I liked the way Stevie was allowed to tell her story to the camera, to the world, and Oprah's people edited it down to make a good story. We all know how much Stevie loves to gab. They probably have another two hours of film we'll never see. When she talked about her mom and her eyes teared, those were def. real tears. I might suggest that if Stevie wants to know more about her mom's life that she just ask all of her mom's friend's to share their Barbara stories.

She and Lindsey have both alluded in the past that their break-up was a gradual thing that wasn't exactly cut and dry. Lindsey once said quite bluntly that there were times when they weren't "together" but were still sleeping with each other. It's very possible the actual process of breaking up was going on all through the recording of Rumours but the final say in the matter didn't happen until the end.

Yeah, Lindsey said in 1997 - “Christine and John were breaking up. Stevie and I were breaking up, although in a more drawn-out, ambiguous way than Christine and John. With Christine and John it was over really quick. Whereas Stevie and I were more like, 'Well I don’t know…' There were times when we were sleeping together and times when we were officially something else. But there was definitely a moving apart.”

OK I watched it as well and some parts were interesting and sad. When Stevie spoke about her mom this made me really sad. With the health issues my mom herself has been in for the last 2 1/2 yrs (2 back surgeries etc) its not been easy but she is doing better now after the 2nd back surgery last Sept. So that made me tear up a lot --I guess it was more personal than even about her marriage to Kim Anderson. I did feel sad about Robin too. That was her best friend. Some of the info wasn't really new. This was the first time I'd watched one of these Oprah Master class things. I actually thought Oprah would be there and ask her questions which I think would've made it more interesting and walking around Stevie's home etc. I like those kinda interviews better. I think I did see one of Oprah with Paula Deen and it was interesting and cool!!! I guess no interview will ever be totally cool without cool stuff in it etc. I guess I appreciate it for what it was cause I guess it maybe the best we'll ever get from Stevie. It would be nice if she'd have one made up at the end of her 'career' for all us fans and show us rare items and tell us wonderful stories. This would be different than the IYD Doc. If that ever does come to pass ? Anyway , it was nice but I guess to me it could've always been better though.:D

I'm not interested in jumping into the "is she or isn't Stevie blessed" debate because frankly I can see both sides of the coin and believe there are equal merits & truths to both sides of the argument. I do, however, feel it is just a bit narrow-minded and even offensive to equate a comfortable financial situation and time in the lime light to a blessed existence. There are all kinds of hardships in the world...some of which all the money in the world can't help and existing under the microscope of intense public attention and expectations just makes all the more uncomfortable. I had a cousin who's mother adored him. He was given most everything ever wanted in life from the time he could talk. From the outside looking in, he led a charmed life...up until the day he hung himself. Believe me, there were plenty of blessings that he turned his back on and more torment than I care to think about. But to stand outside and assume one knows the content of another's heart and the weight of their trials...

Those shots in the Master Class show? I wonder if those are real - all those shots seemed staged to me. Or do you mean there are old pics somwhere of her pill bottles? I'd be interested to know if the docs are still practicing.
Here's the thing - was it a bad idea for Stevie to take Klonopin? Yes. Was it illegal? Nope. Was it unethical? The doctor could claim that it was necessary for her mental state at the time. If she was put on it as a mood stabilizer or to combat anxiety, it was being used correctly, at least at first. Lots of people become addicted to prescription drugs - sometimes the physician is partially at fault, sometimes he/she is not.

My mom is on klonopin for her panic attacks and stuff. She's been on it for years and rarely acted the way Stevie had acted when she was on it. The pill bottles they used for Master Class were definitely new/modern looking, so they were either "staged" props, or were actual prescription bottles for a current prescription she's on (possible, but not very likely).
They definitely did not look like they came from 1987-1993.

Definitely fake. Said "Nicks, Stevie" on it. And I have 4 pics of the real bottles and they all say her actual name, "Nicks, Stephanie". Just like when I saw some old anti-depressants Dolly Parton was prescribed, and they say "Dean, Dolly" since that's her real legal name (she got married 46 yrs ago and changed her last name to her husband's). And the way Marilyn Monroe's pill bottles say "Mrs. Miller" only on it (as she was married to Arthur Miller at the time). They wouldn't put Stevie's nickname/stage-name on a pill bottle.
Also, whatever the mg number was on it ended in 5. Meaning it was 5mg or .5mg. 5mg of klonopin doesnt exist. 2mg is the highest one can get. And she was on exactly that towards the end.
So the verdict is the bottles were stage props

You know, I've thought about this since the show aired, and I have to agree with you. Especially when you consider that this guy, Glenn, is the one who just recently lost his son to some kind of drug/alcohol overdose. It's just not funny to joke about getting high and mixing drugs and passing out, regardless of the fact that in this case she was talking about prescription drugs (tho mixed with pot and alcohol). I don't want to start a big flame war or anything, but it realllly makes me wonder about some of these people's parenting choices and what some of these kids in this circle of people have been exposed to (unnecessarily). It made me think how smart Lori was to give up her career and raise her kid full-time and keep her eye on what she got exposed to. YMMV

Well, it's funny, I was thinking about this last night too. I was thinking that Glenn certainly DID dance with the devil.
Marie Osmond was telling a story about her son that committed suicide and she said his problems started when he and his teenaged friends would just get all the drugs (prescription) out of their parents' medicine cabinets and throw them in a pile and then take turns taking the drugs, just to see what happened. They didn't even pay attention to what the drugs were. I think Marie said this "game" had a name. I don't remember what it was, but ... russian roulette, baby.
But there was something cute I forgot to mention about the interview. Stevie said that in Lindsey's version of the story she kissed him after California Dreaming. I have heard Lindsey describe their meeting, but he didn't throw in that part. I think he says all of their early encounters ended with a kiss just to get her goat sometimes:nod:. Very precious.

Terrified enough without the red wine and a joint.
Even scarier, the klono appears to be prescribed "as needed," while the Lortab is to be taken "as directed." When she was talking about all the different pill combos, was she including the lortab? That sounded like a lot for her body. It would kill her before it made her lethargic!

And it looks like he's mentioned in the TOSOTM liner notes, being thanked for his "extraordinary compassion."
OMG I never noticed that! Someone should ask Stevie about that. Was that her naivety speaking? The drugs? Or did she really feel the Klonopin helped at first?

This might be alittle off topic. A few years ago As was a Saturday emergency call to My Dentist .For the weekend .My dentist put me on Vicodin for a tooth infection along with antibiotics. I was worried about getting hooked on Vicodin like some people do..I took about 3 of them as directed for the weekend and end up sleeping and feeling odd with no freaking mouth pain.By Sunday night the Vicodin faded away the pain was very little and I said that it for taking the Vicodin .On Monday I stop by his office and let him check things out which were good news as the infection went away.
After dealing with that .I can understand how people get hooked on meds.
I'm Glad that Stevie over powered herself to get off these meds .I'm proud of her doing so and lend a helping hand out to people in need.
Thank You Stevie. I don't know what to do without you.

Even scarier, the klono appears to be prescribed "as needed," while the Lortab is to be taken "as directed."

No Lisa, you got that wrong. Look at the pic you posted. It clearly shows "as directed" for the klono.

Not at all pleased that Oprah took a segment from the IYD doc and passed it off as part of her Stevie story telling session.

I don't think she could do that without permission, so Stevie and/or Stevie's people must have been ok with it.

I know permission was given. I have a problem with that because Oprah's editor probably had 2 hours of Stevie talking to choose from and didn't have to take time from another piece of film to do it.

I wish that Oprah and Stevie plugged the Docu more on Masterclass.
It would make screenings sellout altogether for Stevie and Dave.
