Currently I am listening to:

Mirror
Bella Donna
Street Angel

What are your top 3 Stevie album picks? Don't hate on my list, it's just how I currently feel. What gets you through tough times? Curious if others choose darker, out-there Stevie albums to listen to.

My top 3 albums would be RAL, TOSOTM and TISL, I think. There are lots of things on each album I like, much that I am indifferent to, and several things I adore. I would rank BD and SA at the very bottom, in any case.

I have not been listening to a lot of Stevie recently, though I've been thinking about her music a lot. Right now, my top picks would be Rock A Little and Street Angel and Trouble In Shangri La. Whenever I haven't listened to Stevie in a long time, these three albums are the ones I gravitate towards.

I did put Crystal Visions (vinyl) on the stereo this weekend and really enjoyed hearing Planets of the Universe and Sorcerer on vinyl - Planets in particular sounded *amazing*, with little blips and beeps and strums that I hadn't heard on the CD before, most likely because the CD is mastered so loud that the more subtle instrumentation is overwhelmed.

it depends on my mood. I recently revisited TISL, which has never been one of my favorites but I found a new appreciation for it. RAL and WH are always my top two so I guess the number 3 spot is a wild card.

LOL, I'm guessing that (since) the few posts that were immediatley erased...mybe those felt disreggaded or (unhappy) with their curent picks.

Thank you all that replied....although....RAL would have been my last pic...LOL....don't get me wrong (as I have stated numerous time) RAL was the 1st CD/Album that introduced me to Stevie/FM......to this day I STILL think it is her Most Bland! Blah....really.

But, we all have our own choices....And We "Listen to those Voices" The diversity within her/FM material is probably what I cherish most.

Happy listening, thx all!

Yes, we are all goofs....me especially for my misspellings LOL! (Note to Self): Don't drink and post :]

Street Angel is actually an Excellent album if you are listening to the Poetry in the Lyrics. No, I AM Not on Drugs! (but I can wish)

What's the line from Stevie, something like "You can't tell Dylan that he can't write that?" That's how I have come to accept and even apprieciate SA. In fact, I did long before that (mis)quote. ;)

TISL is a superb album. Definitely the one I go back to the most.

Other than that, Bella Donna's definitely there. I can't really choose between IYD and WH for the third.

The other three are very enjoyable to me if I tweak their tracklistings here and there. But I listen to them far less often than the above four.

I recently tried to revisit Trouble In Shangri La & it just sounded so dated. Not only that, it just sounded so bland... middle of the road pop music. I adored TISL when it came out, but it's really showing it's age.

The only Stevie album I really listen to these days is In Your Dreams. That being said, I really don't listen to entire albums at all anymore. I cue up a variety of songs & artists and stream them together; or I simply stream Pandora radio.

I don't get this at all. But then, I think much of my favourite music comes from that period, so perhaps what you hear as "dated" I just hear as "totally awesomeballs"

It's interesting. I am very much an album-listener when it comes to singer/songwriters. When it comes to Stevie and Lindsey solo I listen to the albums solidly more often than not, and I prefer most of those songs within the context of the album. Fleetwood Mac, on the other hand, is a completely different story. I'm very much a song-by-song listener of the band. Or if I'm lazy I just throw on whatever greatest hits package/playlist is most convenient at the moment. I don't think I could even tell you the tracklisting of Rumours without looking it up. I've never been able to pinpoint exactly why, but I'm just never inclined to listen to those albums as albums.

I'm just the opposite. In fact, after being being an iTunes and MP3 fanboy for nearly a decade, I am giving up the portable format alltogether. My 160GB iPod has not been used, charged or even synced in over a year. I only listen to actual CDs and records, and usually play an entire album or record side before switching.

It's all part of my "I just turned 40" slow-down.

But seriously, I'm enjoying my music so much more since I quit using it as background filler. I remember being younger, like even only 10 years ago, and listening to music was a social activity. I'm trying to bring that back!

Ang I agree with you - TISL does sound a bit dated, but I don't mind.

Bella Donna (will always be in my top 3 no matter my mood)
Trouble in Shangri-La
Rock a Little

I also don't mind if TISL sounds late 90's Sheryl-dated at all....Still to me the music and Lyrics (most-of-all) are relevant.

Anything is better than the horrid dated sound of RAL...:sorry: RAL fans.

TISL is heart-felt and well thought out, not like most todays "Muzak" that is all about catchy phrases and titles that cash in on the Next best thing to catch listeners' interest.

Like Most of SN albums....it is about an original artist writing and recording Original songs from the heart. TISL Rocks!

I just can't pick! It changes with time and my mood. I know the 3rd disc of Enchanted is always up there though. The problem with her solo albums is that they always seem to have the same theme/mood through out the whole album. It's very unique, but by the time you finish it, I don't want to hear it the whole way through for a long while. I agree with who ever said listing to FWM is more of a song by song experience. With 3 different artist, it makes since. Except for Tusk, there aren't many cohesive albums. Just my opinion. Also, I was 15 when TISL came out. Loved it then, but it's just ok now. Kind of boring as a whole. Still love IYD!

Yes, we are all goofs...

Street Angel is actually an Excellent album if...

Me, a goof?

Street Angel, excellent??? You're doing more than drinking.

Here we go:

1. Wild Heart (Simply the best).

2. Bella Donna (So good, but not The Wild Heart).

3. Rock A Little (Like it, but something's amiss).

4. The Other Side Of The Mirror (Houston we have a problem - I still like it though).

5. Street Angel (Sad, depressing, the singing zombie).

6. Trouble In Shangri-La (It took her seven years to put these songs on an album?).

7. In Your Dreams (Ten years, this is it? Oh well - at least she tried).

Compilations, greatest hits and live albums don't count.

My 2 faves are:

Rock A Little
In Your Dreams

The third spot is difficult because a 3-way tie exists between

Wild Heart
OSOTM
TISL

Bella Donna is solidly next

and Street Angel definitely last

I actually found Trouble in Shangri-La more disappointing in the early 2000's than now, I guess I've "learned" how to listen to it (aka ignore what used to bother me, or just ... not care, I dunno). Not that I ever found it a bad album, just one that I wanted more from. I still think it could've been better but it's among my favorite Stevie albums, along with Bella Donna. Some of the 80's ones are too 80's for me in sound though there are lots of good songs. Dunno which I'd pick for a third.

For many years my favourite Stevie album was Bella Donna, but over the last couple of years or so Rock a Little has continually grown on me to the point that it's now my favourite. I like that there's a dance/pop vibe on some songs (Sister Honey, If I Were You, The Nightmare) and a somewhat dark, wild and frenzied sound on others. I find it to be a wonderfully moody and atmospheric album. I also think it contains some of the best songs never released as singles, No Spoken Word being a prime example.

My top 3 picks:

Rock a Little
Bella Donna
The Wild Heart

The Other Side of the Mirror is an album with some great songs (Rooms on Fire, Ooh My Love, Long Way to Go, Cry Wolf) in amongst some average ones (Whole Lotta Trouble, Doing the Best I Can, Juliet) and some awful ones (Two Kinds of Love, I Still Miss Someone, Alice). Even Street Angel has a few great tracks on it like Kick It, Rose Garden, Blue Denim and Love Is Like a River. I've always had a soft spot for Trouble in Shangri-La as it was the first Stevie album I ever bought but it does have few songs I don't care for - I Miss You, Love Changes and That Made Me Stronger.

Despite always listing TISL as one of my favorite albums, I realized the other day it's probably been about a year since I've listened from beginning to end. You're right, it's starting to sound dated.

And while I was never big on "TMMS" and "TFFT" to begin with, I skipped them after the first chorus. I feel like the album starts off and ends on strong notes, but there's this lull in the middle that I never really noticed before...

The Wild Heart
Bella Donna
In Your Dreams

TISL is a very close contender though. The other three have moments that I like, even love, but I've never felt they clicked together as an album. Rock A Little is the most frustrating in that regard. So many flashes of brilliance, so little cohesion.
