My unability to write in english kills me again, I'm trying, really.
It was a magic night, at least for 3 people, Alex, Andrea and me. We are friends since a FM concert in 1990 (Essen, Germany), we met there. Alex actually lives in Cologne, Andrea drove 2 hours to visit me the day before, we went to Cologne by train for an hour. We are long distance friends for life. :)
Alex had a rather good ticket, 13th row, but due to bad luck and circumstances (When tickets went on sale, I was stuck in a youth hostel with 60 children, no internet and no means to just GET A FREAKIN' TICKET, which drove me crazy back then) Andrea and me ended with rather depressing seats back, high up. When we arrived at our seats, we saw how far away the stage was, we were really depressed.
You know, I AM middle-aged, but in contrast to every other middle-aged person around me, I'm also a fan for 34 years now, not someone who randomly went there, alot of the people looked rather bored already. I felt that I deserved the best seats in the house. Andrea felt the same and without more talking, we just went down to the ground floor. A steward asked for my ticket, I just kept walking as if I did not hear him, Andrea was an upright woman on her way to her legit place, too. He let us path without controlling our tickets. Yesss!
Down in the area, we met Alex, she decided that we had to be procative, went and found a "good witch" (her own words), who upgraded our tickets to that part of the venue. Bad seats, far far back but anyway. Yesss! again. Andrea and me then got quite bold. On our way to the concert, we had passed by some people who sold good tickets for a high price in front of the venue. We thought that probably not all of this tickets would be sold and went to first row, in front of Stevies mike and just sat down on 2 empty seats. We were so nervous that someone would just shoo us away. Minutes went by, noone requested the seats. Alex found another free seat in front row. Lights went out 10 minutes late and we actually HAD the best seats in the house.
We just stood up, walked 3 meters and stood where we had to be, Andrea and me in front of Stevie, Alex between Stevie and Lindsey. For 20 minutes into the concert, we just couldn't believe that our stunt had really worked out that well. We had the best seats in the house, but we did not even need them :). The concert was the best of the ones we saw (1990, 2003, 2009). I cannot imagine how frustrating sitting back up would have been.
Andrea and Alex made tons of close up videos and photos, Alex' camera did not record good sound, I will try to "uprade" them when I got them (by post), Andrea made soe really good videos that we will post later. Then with an actual concert review.
Let me just say that "Sisters of the Moon" was a standout but GDW had our jaws drop. I have not seen what Stevie did with that song in any clip I saw so far, that were 12 minutes that knocked everyone out.
Thanks for reading my ramblings, will be back when Andrea and me worked up a coherent review.

Sometimes you just deserve such a thing. Cool to see did you succeed! I did kinda the same back in 2009 in Antwerp as well as at a U2 concert a few years ago.
Luckily most (of not all) rock-concerts in Holland are general admission in the centre field (the way a rock concert imho is supposed to be...come on who needs chairs to rock! ?), so I might be able to get upfront tonite in Amsterdam as well (will be stuck at work tilll at least 3 and the a 1h trainride), so I might not get at the Ziggodome early enough.

Fleetwood Mac convince the tour opener in Cologne
By Mark Ludwig, dpa
Cologne (AP) - It took only a few drums - and the fans of the rock band Fleetwood Mac felt the Germany tour kick-off on Sunday night at the sold-out Lanxess Arena transported to another time.
"Second Hand News," the song that opens the legendary 1977 released album "Rumours" was the start of a journey into the pop and rock world of the 1970s.
However, about two and a half hour show had no means dust. On the contrary, Fleetwood Mac showed that their power is by no means exhausted. Even with the fans, the band founded in 1967, has apparently still not lost their appeal. About 15 000 listeners had come to the concert in Cologne.
In London as a surprise as the former band member Christine McVie came on stage for a song, it was not though. But singer Stevie Nicks, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass - both belong since its founding in 1967 on the band - made it even live to elicit their songs the atmospheric density and brittleness, which they so special titles making.
Whether "Rhiannon," "Go Your Own Way," "Gypsy" or "Do not Stop" as an encore - almost all the major hits of the band was inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame» 1998, to hear . The focus was mainly the songs from the album "Rumours", which is around 40 million copies sold worldwide as one of the most successful albums in pop history.
In addition, the fans were excited about several songs from the 1979 released album "Tusk". Thus, as Buckingham, you have shown that you sometimes had to prevail against the record labels - and not always allowed to continue only that, what is going well.
Besides the big hits, there were also pieces of its new, digitally released 4-song EP, "Extended Play". Two songs the band has recorded over the course of the tour program. "Sad Angels" proved to be a rousing and catchy pop tune. "Without You", however, is a newly discovered piece which Buckingham and Nicks in 1974, recordings as a demo version.
The audience, many of them between 50 and 60 years old, Fleetwood Mac elicited with long applause finally four encores. With the delicate "Say Goodbye" the British-American band released the fans into the night. Fleetwood Mac is still in Stuttgart (October 14) and Berlin (16 October) to live.

Fleetwood Mac - just do not stop!
07.10.2013 19:33 | Clock
Cologne., The band 15 000 enthusiastic fans at the start of the short tour of Germany in the sold out arena Cologne. It was the evening of Lindsey Buckingham, of the masses brought his guitar to cheer. At the end there were two and a half hours of great concert - and an elixir for four warriors of rock.
Lindsey Buckingham vibrates alternately Beanstalk his legs in the air. He pounds out of his mind one of his guitar. He touches her, hopelessly out of breath, his heart and lets hope that it is the jubelschäumende applause that because it goes to the heart and not some evil Kasper 15 000 people.
In moments like these, not only the flawless joint work of cosmetic surgeons and make-up artists from Stevie Nicks unimportant, but their idiotic decision, with 65 to wobble even on platform soles on the stage. Since Fleetwood Mac is more than a beautiful reminder of times of "Rumours" and "Tusk", since there is a unheard-present live band. Having the right level of routine, based on the still ravishing each evening concert.
A band also that, crazy enough, is named after its solid rhythm section of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie - where it still smoke delicate melancholiegetränkte voice of Mrs. Nicks is a pound of the band, whose "Do not Stop" megahit a Bill Clinton chose his campaign anthem.
And the second is the grenades guitarist, the evening belongs to the sold-out Cologne Arena: Lindsey Buckingham. Whether "Second Hand News" or the new, trendy propulsive "Sad Angel": The man plays in its own league on the strings - as if he wanted to win the world championships in fretboard tightrope, including B-Note.
Even after five encores they hardly want from the stage
The perfect duet song of the two, which one could listen endlessly, is supported by a lot of echo and a little reverb through the arena, it remains at just two, three mixing periods. Stevie Nicks afraid of heights a little, because although they get there still. "Sara," "Gypsy," "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk," "Second Hand News" and "Big Love" (Buckingham's star attraction in the brilliant acoustic version!) - The hit album is well arranged in this short two and a half hours, which experienced only by the occasional hard-talks a little break.
These speeches reveal all that performances in which the band will reluctantly left after five encores from stage form, also for four veteran rock stretching a true elixir of life. No wonder they are so grateful to their fans, which in turn regret nothing. Not even if they have forked out more than 200 euros for the "platinum" tickets ..

Hi there,
the concert was awesome - some people were surprised that it started around 7.10 pm, as normally concerts start around 8 pm. So, during the first two, three tracks there was a lot of traffic inside the arena. Nevertheless the band played on and it was fantastic. Normally you expect to stand during such a concert but unfortunately it was all seated - and the people remained seated during most of time. Only Lindsey received standing ovations for Big Love and I'm So Afraid.
Stevie dedicated Landslide to all of us Cologne-people, as she doesn't know anybody here. One funny thing about Stevie - first she regretted not to speak German and that she wanna learn it someday (ha ha :)), then it seemed that she spoke slow, so that the continental Europeans would understand most of it :) And she announced to cut the introduction speech of Without You short, as nobody wanted to get a lecture from her. In the end she spoke for ca. 8 minutes :) It was fun to hear this story (the song was there, it got lost, it was found again, got lost again, etc...) and Lindsey's memories about the time, Mick called him to join Fleetwood Mac.
At the very end it seemed, they didn't wanna leave the stage - Stevie stood there after Say Goodbye and gave us the warmest farewell words. After that, Mick came one last time on stage - The Mac is back :)
Ok, that's it from me - sorry for the bad English. Greetings from Germany

I went to Cologne with my mum to see the show. Just as we got there we found out that the biggest food festival in the world was taking place on the day of the concert, and the next couple of days. We ended up spending a ridiculous amount of money for a hotel room, but we had a blast. Finally, after fifteen years of fandom, I saw the band for the first time. My mom, a Lindsey fan, was blown away by Stevie. SOTM and GDW were simply incredible. Our seats were pretty decent, but not that close to the stage, so during the second encore, when some people left to avoid the crowd, we managed to move just like 8 ft from Stevie. I was DYING!!! I wish i could see them again on this tour, but I don’t think I can afford it. Anyway, I’v got a pretty great audio recording of GDW. I wish I recorded the entire show, but I was so excited to be there, I could barely pull myself together for that one lol. I hope a complete bootleg of the show surfaces soon. For me, this was a dream come through.

This is a good point and I have to applaud your mom. I would probably like Lindsey less, if I had not seen him live.
When I first saw FM in 1979, he really was the last thing on my mind when I went to the show. If I knew his songs, they are not the ones that stood out to me. So, his music, playing and production talent had not yet sealed the deal. It was seeing him in concert that sparked my interest and then he retained that interest.

Exactly my take, StreetAngel86!! Elle, I wish you would try to give Stevie half a chance, but if you can't, I am asking you to please try not to bad mouth her at every turn, ok? It always makes me feel a little bad because, of course, I love her and although I know she has her quirks (understatement) does she really deserve that? May I ask why you dislike her so I can try to understand where you're coming from?
When I first came back to The Ledge, I made a few not so nice remarks about Lindsey and you called me out. I stopped making unnecessary snide remarks about him because I realized that it bothered you. You convinced me to listen to all of Lindsey's music from OOTC on. I already knew how extraordinary it was! Never cared much for the man but amazing talent is amazing talent. And, people change so I gave THE MAN another chance too. I still find him to be a bit of a diva but I also find him changed and have come to enjoy him. What do you say? :xoxo:

It was just wonderful seeing my mom go completely insane during GDW. She is not a big fan of female vocalists, and on the way back from the concert she kept saying how good Stevie sounds live, and how she knew they would be good live, but never expected they would be that good. I loved them both. I loved the whole band. Its been four days since I saw them, and I am still full of happiness.

Anyway, I’v got a pretty great audio recording of GDW. I wish I recorded the entire show, but I was so excited to be there, I could barely pull myself together for that one lol. I hope a complete bootleg of the show surfaces soon. For me, this was a dream come through.
GDW: http://www.fileswap.com/dl/z8oPD0zk1/
That is a great recording, thank you very much. I don't want to compare the cologne version to others right now, I felt that this one was special, both Alex and Andrea felt that too, we were in awe. Charismatic, hypnotic, totally crazy and totally professional. Stevie has her moments. We also found Sisters of the moon fantastic, but GDW was another level.
My friends did do photos and videos, but so far, they have difficulties to make them public. I don't like recording in a concert much, it distracts you from the experience.
I just stood there, trying to absorb it all and to be absorbed by it all, if that makes any sense. First time in months that I was really just happy, being in the moment. I'm not there still, but I know that somehow the concert will make my horrible year okay for me in retrospect. And that's not because I made a good video :).

I'm glad you DIDN'T record the whole show! You got to experience it fully and give the band some energy back with your rapt attention. Awesome.
That is so true. This may be the only time I got to see them live, and I really wanted to experience it without any pressure of holding any kind of recording device. I just hope a bootleg appears soon, and if not, I am really happy with just being able to see them.
He's saying his mother is a Bucky fan and as a Bucky fan, was blown away by Stevie; she hadn't expected to be. (?????)
It's like being a Stevie fan and going to a FM show and being blown away by Bucky even though you're there to stare at Stevie
i understand that, i guess i'm just so used to see the reaction you describe here than the other way around. :)
It's not like he is touring all over Europe all the time, so no, she's never seen him live. Basically this ↓↓↓
true! and that's why i was so surprised, although you didn't say whether she was blown away by his performance too or he left her cold.
Michele
yep, again reaction that you usually see or hear about. :)
Exactly my take, StreetAngel86!! Elle, I wish you would try to give Stevie half a chance, but if you can't, I am asking you to please try not to bad mouth her at every turn, ok?
huh? i wasn't even talking about Stevie. i was surprised that there was no reaction from a bucky fan seeing him live for the first time. maybe there was a reaction but golddustboy was more interested and happy about his mom's reaction to SN who is his preferred performer, and that's why he described that.
you can read into others' posts what you want, it's your prerogative, but try not putting words in my mouth. i'm talking about music and a performance, you are talking about character of a person you don't know. big difference. if i don't like someone's music or performance, i have the right to say it. that is not bad-mouthing them, that's just an opinion on the work they do.
that said, honestly i think Stevie has been performing much much better on this tour than from what i've heard of the previous 2 FM tours. that still doesn't mean that i have to like most of her songs or her slow slow twirls that for some reason drive others delirious (while at the same time LB is doing amazing guitar solo that those people don''t even notice b/c they are so mesmerized by the slowed down twirls). i'm pleasantly surprised by European audiences choosing guitar solos over slow twirls. but whatever makes people happy, it's all good. it's entertainment, taking you away from your everyday problems!
It was just wonderful seeing my mom go completely insane during GDW. She is not a big fan of female vocalists, and on the way back from the concert she kept saying how good Stevie sounds live, and how she knew they would be good live, but never expected they would be that good. I loved them both. I loved the whole band. [B]Its been four days since I saw them, and I am still full of happiness.
i know the feeling! happy you had such great time and that you managed to come down close.
btw, Stevie has recently started to interact with the audience a little too, it was nice and surprising to see!

During the ISA solo, she was the first to stand up from her seat, and burst into a raging applause before the song was over  and it certainly was one of the highlights of the show, beside GDW. I love LB. He is a fantastic guitarist and most of the time, a great producer. I am a highly trained classical musician (opera singer-vocal coach), and as one, I have a great appreciation for flawless technical performance and execution of a musical piece, but something I appreciate above anything else is the artists ability to preserve, express and transfer the emotion through their art. Stevie is no instrumental virtuoso, but she is certainly capable of doing that through songwriting eons better then Linds, even if her songs are sometimes rudimentary as Linds once said. What she lacks in the technical part, she compensates with the ability to force you feel exactly the way she felt creating her art, and relive it through your eyes. Isn't that the sole purpose of art in general? Don't get me wrong, I don't find you a bad, irritating person at all. Quite contrary. I just don't understand your need to overanalyze everything Stevie does, so you can criticize her later every time you mention her name, and all that in front of a group of people that obviously mostly adore her. It would be much easier for you to enjoy her work with FM that you can put up with, and ignore the rest. And no, I am not one of the fans who faints of excitement every time she twirls, and wears platform boots. I am one of those fans that loves her for who she is as an artist.

see, i don't get emotion from Stevie like you do. i get emotion and intensity from Lindsey. his performances provide something that you can get lost in, for me. so when someone says SN can express emotions through music "eons better than him" as an absolute truth like you did here, well... we all have different things that move us, and the right to our opinions, no? i don't feel what you do, and you don't feel what i do.

wow. when did we switch to personal attacks just because we like different kind of music? it's always good to have a balance. most people don't like to hear opinions that differ from theirs. but it should be healthy discussion, not jumping down people's throats, and calling them "bad" people b/c they don't like the same artist.
it would be much easier for me if LB stays solo, period.

So, not considering you a bad, irritating person, and having an absolutely opposite opinion about you is a personal attack? Having many laughs (in a good way) reading your posts, while many people on his board would obviously disagree is switching to a personal attack? Lady, be aware of the fact that if i wanted to verbally attack you, you, and every other member of this board would be very aware of that. :nod:You constantly belittle Stevie's work, indirectly belittling the musical taste and opinion of the majority members of this board, you find your part a "healthy discussion" , but me calling you not bad and irritating is a major case of personal attacking? Now that's a strange approach to logic and balance... Read my post a few more times if necessary. I hope you realize I never jumped down your throat calling you bad. Quite the opposite. And stop twisting my words.

We are not discussing the laws of physics here, so I never mentioned nothing similar to "absolute truth", but her music does have the ability to reach much more people of different profiles. I seems you only feel we all have the right of different opinions, as long as they are close to yours. I love Lindsey, but that doesn't seem enough for you . I don't frantically follow musicians I despise, so I can trash mouth them in every given opportunity. I see no point in that. To be able to have a "healthy discussion" with you, I guess I would have to imagine her burning live on a stake every night before I go to sleep with a smile on my face. Oh, and STOP TWISTING MY WORDS.

that still doesn't mean that i have to like most of her songs or her slow slow twirls that for some reason drive others delirious (while at the same time LB is doing amazing guitar solo that those people don''t even notice b/c they are so mesmerized by the slowed down twirls). i'm pleasantly surprised by European audiences choosing guitar solos over slow twirls.
 I would say that even when Stevie was young and amazingly swift in her high heeled boots, I was not a fan of the (then) fast twirls or the high kicks.
I like her music in and of itself. In concert, I like her in the context of Fleetwood Mac shows the best. In her solo shows my favorite songs are the ones that have an edge like, well, EDGE, Sorcerer, Stand Back and GDW, because sometimes Waddy's arrangement has rocked that song harder than FM does over the years.
I would say I have been kind of mesmerized by the way she could run and jump about in the past, but the high point for me was never anything she was doing physically (although I am fascinated with what she and Lindsey and Christine do to each other physically), but it's mostly for me when her words are strange, intense and emotional like her panting, "I'm tired, I'm thirsty, I'm wild-eyed in my misery ..." that's the kind of thing that awes me, when the song delivery joins with the unique, odd emotion and message of the lyric -- which is why I always enjoy the ending of GDW. It's not the odd gyrations she does that I like, but I do enjoy the "you can't feel me. You can't see me. You can't fix me" riff.
So, I appreciate the way words join with delirious delivery. But Lindsey does it too, for instance, with Go Insane.
Christine's lyrics aren't odd like theirs can be, so it's not exactly the same. Her words don't make me think, "In one sentence you have captured a feeling that I could never articulate before." But the way Chris sings simple things does tap into feelings that I can't voice sometimes too, but in concert I think I need her with FM to get real pleasure from her live performances. I can't say that for sure though, because I did not see her solo in 1984. But I am one of those people who when attending a show nearly faint over SYLM and Over My Head and feel really nothing for Songbird and I just hate Oh Daddy live, so I definitely have those concert moments when the whole audience is into it and I'm thinking, "well, when will this be over."

It's funny how differently people can see/experience things, because Stevie songs leave me colder than a dead fish while Lindsey songs convey a lot more emotion and feeling and make me think about the lyrics and relate them to my own life and experiences.
And will someone please explain why twirls are so fascinating? Isn't it something most able bodied people can do?

Dead fish? Wow... you may get more out of LB's songs personally, but no one could ever accuse Stevie of lacking in the emotional lyric department. I mean, come on - that woman is one big giant mess of emotion.
She's a performance artist. The twirls are just part of that. Same as LB's expressions and movements.
I don't get the division people. Seriously. Lindsey vs. Stevie, Stevie vs. Lindsey. Good grief.

Yes, dead fish. I don't get anything out of her songs. The way she words things and the flowery language don't do anything for me. And the music/melodies don't appeal to me to me either. This isn't a Lindsey vs. Stevie thing, I would feel the same way if I didn't know who Lindsey was. I'm more of a realist than a romantic, so I'm sure that plays a large part of it.
And the twirls, to each their own I guess. I just don't get it. And that's fine, not for me to understand I suppose.

It comes off that way because everyone splinters into these "Stevie" or "Lindsey" groups and compares them - ie: Stevie leaves me like a cold dead fish but Lindsey doesn't.... It's apples to oranges anyway as far as their solo stuff goes. I happen to really enjoy both, myself.
I don't even know how people can like one or the other and then be a Fleetwood Mac fan. (Unless you only like Christine).

I consider myself a Lindsey solo fan, not a Fleetwood Mac fan. As far as Fleetwood Mac goes, I like the Lindsey songs, some of the Stevie songs from Tusk and earlier, and maybe three Christine songs. But it makes sense to me that you can be a Fleetwood Mac fan and only like one or the other, or neither since there are so many incarnations of the band. There are plenty of people that just like the Peter Green era or Bob Welch. That's really the best thing about Fleetwood Mac is that no matter what your tastes are, there is probably an era or songwriter that you can enjoy. Being a Fleetwood Mac fan doesn't mean you have to enjoy every person that's ever been in that band.

True. I was really being specific to the Stevie and Lindsey era. I guess I think if you're a Lindsey fan you would at least appreciate his contribution and production on Stevie's songs, even if it's not your thing lyrically. I tend to look at Fleetwood Mac music as it was meant to be - the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, to borrow LB's favorite phrase. For example, there are a lot of "Buckingham Nicks" songs that I appreciate Christine's presence on, even if I thought they were really great with only Buckingham Nicks. I mean to dislike Stevie means you don't listen to Dreams, Rhiannon, Sara, Gypsy, Landslide, Gold Dust Woman.... these are all songs synonymous with Fleetwood Mac. I don't see what kind of fandom is left if you're not into that. I mean I like Paul McCartney better than John Lennon, but without him there is no Beatles. It's the same school of thought the Christine fans have -- that it's not Fleetwood Mac without her. I can understand that because it's the meshing of the members that made up the thing to begin with. Otherwise, they would just be solo artists or not artists at all.

That's completely normal and fine. What I find ridiculous and illogical is obsessing over somebody you don't like, following their every move, and constantly ****ting on everything they do, and all that in front of a group of people who happen to love that person. Yeah well, it goes both way. I see plenty of ****ting on Lindsey. And I don't see anyone following Stevie around and obsessing over her just to **** on her. I listen to Dreams and GDW. I don't enjoy the rest of the songs you listed and I don't think it ruins any fandom I have. I do fine with Tusk, GYOW, SMAP, ISA, Big Love, The Ledge, Not That Funny, etc. I will say that Stevie's songs seemed to greatly benefit from Lindsey's help but in the end they are still her lyrics/melodies and I just don't enjoy her music at the end of the day. I do appreciate Lindsey's guitar parts of those songs, especially Gypsy, but that's really not enough for me to want to listen to them. But I also have no problem if they were to just become solo artists and in fact I would prefer it. Yes FM is what first made them popular and why we know them today and I'm grateful for that but that doesn't mean I have to like Stevie's music. Everyone takes something different from music and has different tastes, I don't know why not enjoying the same arbitrary parts of the music you think are essential makes them any less of a fan.
I mean I like Paul McCartney better than John Lennon
That explains a lot.

I can see liking Fleetwood Mac and not liking Lindsey, Stevie or Christine. That's why I always laugh when someone says, "and you call yourself a fan." I always think, "No, I really don't or at least I don't call myself the same sort of fan that you obviously are."

Yeah?
Fleetwood Mac. Love that band, but I can't stand any of the members.:shrug:

Saying you can't stand one person, either Christine, Lindsey or Stevie is not saying that you can't stand "any of the members."
I don't see what's so odd about that. You don't like one out of the five. So what?

People actually just like bass & drums and not any other part of the music - lyrics, keyboards, lead guitar or harmonies?
What's the point?

I was talking about four out of the five, not disliking all 3 singers. You can dislike either Christine, Lindsey and Stevie, but like the other 4 just fine.
And as far as your comment "what's the point" what is the point of ANY likes or dislikes? Personal preferences don't follow a rule book.
I will tell you, I was a huge Sonny and Cher fan for my entire childhood and beyond and I never really liked Cher. I have old schoolbooks and you can look in them or on any of my old records (including some FM records) and you will see I have scribbled my special "Sonny and Cher" insignia on everything. It was on everything I owned. Still, I was not a Cher fan, per se.

yes, there are some songs where I JUST like the bass line. Not FM songs, but there are some songs. You know, I am not into The Cure. That is so not my thing, but I love their Lovesong only for the bass line. It's not really that hard a concept to fathom in my mind.
I didn't buy the Time album for anyone except Christine. Christine wasn't on the tour, but I had to go see it once, just for Mick and John and NO ONE ELSE. I felt I had to, because I was a Fleetwood Mac fan. You may say a real Fleetwood Mac fan would have loved Bekka and Dave and Billy too. So be it. Maybe I wasn't a "real" Fleetwood Mac fan. But that was the kind of FM fan I was.

Well, I didn't get that you meant Christine OR Lindsey OR Stevie, I thought you meant someone could dislike all of them, but still label themselves as a FM fan.
My comment was referring to that, I wouldn't understand what the point of being only a Mick or John fan would be. But, I guess if you're a bass player or a drummer, then you may be inclined to listen to the music from that perspective and not into the song lyrics per se.
I agree that personal preferences are just that and leaning toward one member over another is perfectly understandable and normal. The problem that was being discussed here was the tearing down and bashing that goes on (and on and on) and just really drives people away.

But everyone's view of what is bashing is different anyway. It depends on your perspective as to what's going to discourage and irritate you. I could say something about Christine that would not bother a person, but it would rattle them if I said the exact same thing about Stevie or Lindsey.
People should leave because of the bashing that annoys them, whatever kind it is. I totally get it. I wasn't on this website myself for a number of years because I didn't like it. I went over to FM Legacy. So, I completely understand driving people away and being driven away myself.

Yeah, I see your point.
Yeah well, it goes both way. I see plenty of ****ting on Lindsey. And I don't see anyone following Stevie around and obsessing over her just to **** on her. If you follow Lindsey, she's there sometimes whether you like it or not. I didn't think this was the Stevie forum anyway? The only people I see obsessing over Stevie are the Stevie fans, isn't that as it should be?

You know I'm 100% behind you on this. I don't get the bashing either. You don't have to like ALL the members of the band. You can like Stevie, or Lindsey, or John, or Mick or any combination of the current 4 members (+ Christine), but just because you dislike a certain member of the band and someone else likes them, does not give you the right to bash that members views or that member personally.
It also doesn't give you the right to gather your friends up and have a party tearing someone else down. I hate to see new people post questions or make a observations (not understanding the unwritten rules on this board) only to get run off by someone they accidentally completely unintentionally upset.
I get that a lot of members on this board are personally invested in certain members of the band, and feel like it's their duty (as a friend/fan) to defend that member to the death. It's an admirable quality (loyalty) to have. However, I can't imagine anyone in the band being happy to see the fan's fighting amongst themselves and splintering the fandom apart. Remember Mick, John and especially Lindsey want to see Fleetwood Mac keep going. (Stevie's still thinking about it)
You don't have to like or agree with everything someone says and you can disagree with the views of anyone on this board (including me), but disagreeing and bashing are very different things and it really needs to stop.

That's why this place doesn't appeal to everyone. I would say it's not really a place for passionate Stevie or Lindsey fans. I wish that wasn't the case, but it's the truth.
If I want to say that Stevie's twirls are more comical than exciting, I will. If I want to say Lindsey's OMS was the worst tour he's ever done and that it hurts me that he ruined ISA, I will.
If I want to say I will burn all his records if he sends my dame back to Cumbria with a corncob (er, hair clip) in her hand, I will.
I don't see any point in praising everyone to death and there's no one I like enough to praise all the time anyway.
But that kind of commentary whether you mean it in a mean way, a humorous one or just an irreverent one is ALWAYS going to upset someone either way. That's why people are not happy here and it's best that they go to places where people don't talk like that and agree with them.

I agree with you. You should be able to say if you like or don't like something, without having someone else attack you for your views. No one's going to agree with everyone all the time because we are all different people with different points of view, likes and dislikes etc... It's not the fact that anyone on this board disagrees with anyone else on this board that's a problem. It's the fact that sometimes the disagreements become personal or a member is mocked for their point of view or for asking questions that's a problem.
I doubt that most of the members on this board would stand by and watch a kid or a group of kids bully another kid and not say something to try and stop it, and just because this is a message board and not a school playground does not change the fact that it still bulling and very distasteful.
If my being nice to you and trying to complement you upsets you, I will quit. Why do I do it? Oh I don't know....maybe because it appears that you are in a bad mood and I'm trying to make you feel better or maybe because I know attacking you will not endear me to you and I am trying to be your friend. However, either way I know it's hard to attack someone when they are trying to be nice to you, so I will stop.

Yes, bullying is bad, but like "rape" I think the term gets misused and diminished. Of course, the definition or recognition of what is bullying varies from person to person and depends on if you are the one saying something that the other person disagrees with or if it's vice versa. When I was in school I couldn't leave a cliquish, hostile environment. At work, you can't always do it as fast as you'd like to either. Luckily online -- at least on a music forum like this -- we can go and don't have to put up with rudeness and ostracism. We can find a place that not only suits our interests, but temperament too. I know I've done that, not only with Fleetwood Mac, but in the old days with The X-Files too.
Today, I don't do Facebook for Fleetwood Mac, but I certainly see the appeal that the different Facebook pages have to offer. Everyone can kind of seek out what works best for them and pick and choose or "friend" those who are most companionable. We may not have all the website options we used to have like Seven Wonders, etc., but social media gives us many more options than we had even 5 years ago. At least that's something to celebrate.

OK...just to clarify what I think your are saying is this. It's OK to attack another member on this board if you don't like his/her views or what they say, because if they don't like it, can't or won't fight back they can always leave this board and go somewhere else where someone will either not attack for their views/comments or might agree with them and maybe "friend" them.
Is that right or am I miss understanding what you mean? Because I am not talking about disagreeing with someone over a point of view or a comment that's made. I'm talking about nasty, sarcastic attacks that can and sometimes does happen when a member(s) doesn't/don't like what someone else says.

No, I'm not saying it's ok to attack other members. In fact, I think this is a heavily moderated board that expressly discourages personal attacks. And I know it is not the flame-war laden attack mob that it was several years ago.
But people don't agree on what is an attack or what is not. When a person is sarcastic or mocking themselves they think that's dandy. When they're on the receiving end of it, it's bullying.
Talking about Stevie's twirls is not bullying. I don't care if that interferes with someone else's enjoyment of Stevie. The other day, when Gold Dust Boy posted about his concert experience, I didn't know why Elle asked him about his mother's view of Lindsey. I can certainly understand why he reacted the way he did and there was back and forth and I don't think there was anything wrong with that. Later, today, there were posts that took a different turn and discussed obsession, jealousy and personal motivations which were removed from this board for being out of line. And posts like that will be removed in the future.
But obviously, not everyone will agree with what is and what is not out of line in their book. So, yes if someone feels the atmosphere here is always oppressive, it's not going to change. You're not going to be happy here. And why stay in a place where you're unhappy and feel victimized when there are so many other alternatives.

I'm happy that you can take the verbal punches members lobby at you and not be offended. I honestly don't want to argue with anyone, I much prefer peace to war. However, I can't see that it's OK to make nasty viscous attacks on anyone, just because you can or that the other person can leave if they don't want to fight back. I mean what's the point? You not changing the other persons point of view by attacking him/her. It seems the only reason to do it is for pure malicious pleasure and making you feel better about yourself at the expense of another persons pride. And the fact that it's prevalent on other boards and accepted does not make it OK. It simply proves that there are a lot of angry people in the world taking that anger out on someone weaker and no one there to stop them.

And for the record, I haven't read every post in this

I usually don't get offended if the insults are directed

OK, I'm glad I asked you to clarify what you meant, because I understand what your are saying now and I actually agree with you.
Different people have different levels of sensitivity. I can see making a remark sarcastic or otherwise and someone being extremely sensitive feeling like they are being attacked, when the remark was not even intended to be personal. I mean I have a pretty dry sense of humor myself,so I can see giving a flippant response to someone and catching hell for being mean.
Those types of situation can't be helped because there are so many different people with different personalities on the same board. And so in those situations I agree with you, if someone is offended by what's been said they can leave and join a site where the other members sense of humor or views matches their own.
Yes, completely agree.
This is my take on what happened in this thread:
There are many people who don’t like to see their favorite performer being criticized, understandably (I’m guilty of that with Lindsey, definitely!). Fans of each of the 3 songwriters in the Rumours-era Mac seem to especially strongly react to their favorite being criticized, while they are completely fine or oblivious when one of the other 2 songwriters (or Mick or John, for that matter) is criticized the same way or worse. When their favorite is criticized, that seems to be defined as “bashing”. When other band members are criticized, that seems to be defined as “being fair and balanced”. ;)
Some think that because there is not enough indiscriminate lovey-dovey-ness of a specific band member, especially the most popular one, this drives away other posters. (Judging by the number of posts and views in the threads where people fight and argue, this may be flawed assumption.)
People get annoyed with the person(s) criticizing their favorite, and decide to take back and forth discussion on another level and personally attack whoever’s posts they don’t like, making up some sick stuff about that person (I guess to discredit them? Drive them away? Not sure why really.).
Moderators step in and remove the most offending posts, declaring there should be no personal attacks on other board members. Criticism of the band members is allowed, since this is discussion board about them, not about the members who post on the board.
On a personal note, I am on these boards because I love Lindsey’s music. I try to provide info about projects he is involved with, and learn from others about the stuff I don’t know. I enjoy many of our discussions, especially banter and humor of many members. If I feel LB is being unfairly criticized (and yes, I feel there's plenty of that!) I try to provide counter-argument.
However, none of us are here to discuss anything about me personally, so that’s why I did and will choose to ignore posts where people are trying to get a response by making up stuff about me.

Risking to have another post deleted (third in a row), I will try o explain my opinion in the most subtle way I can. I don't mind criticism towards my favorite artists, in this case Stevie Nicks. i don't consider her to be a flawless supreme being. I myself criticise her whenever I feel a need to do that, and boy, there were many occasions. What I don't understand is somebody trying to set global standards whats right, and wrong in music in a group of people with different standards and tastes. Music is an art people emotionally connect to, and identify with. There are no rights of wrongs in that. By ridiculing art many people find so close to their hearts, you are indirectly ridiculing their emotions. Giving instructions how one should feel attending a live show is preposterous. My opinion is that this should be a place to share positive experiences about a band we all obviously love, instead of competing who is right, and who is wrong. I am sorry if I offended anyone on this board, but I don't think this is a place where fans should compete in superiority of their favorite members. I waited since my teens to see my favorite band, and instead of sharing my experience with people who can truly understand that fantastic feeling, I got caught in the middle of a Stevie vs Lindsey fight. I don't address anyone specific, but hey people, cant we just enjoy what we have and love, rather then spit venom at each other. Shouldn't that be the purpose of this thread.
P.S. I am asking the moderator to leave my comment, because i really don't think its offensive to anyone. I am just trying to calm a situation that's getting uglier, and uglier...

You are most welcome. I love the view from this person's camera. The closeness of the audience and the lighting on the stage floor remind me of an old Beatles concert bootleg video that my brother owns.
yes, great view plus it's interesting to watch all their audience interactions during band intros.

That one was great!
Would have been a heck of a lot more enjoyable if she or someone around here weren't singing along as well. It is so distracting.

The sound is not that good, but it is filmed from right before the stage in front of Stevie and has some really nice closeups.
