Not sure if anyone noticed this. From the video's I've seen of the tour so far, Stevie has been doing a lower, longer Gold Dust Woman wail. Both nights in London so far, she absolutely went for the full thing.

That was amazing. She not only went for it - she nailed it.
You guys
Stevie is completely awesome

She really ripped it up. Really blew me away. Last night, during the last half of the song after the wail, she was almost floating around the stage with her eyes closed, like she was on air. Amazing!!

I'm sorry. What?
This is not The Dance wail. She is still going low at the actual wail. She did go up high on "home", which was really great.
But, it's not this (at 3:19):

There's always one, isn't there...
That was 16 years ago, get over it. It's only natural for her voice to deteriorate with age so for her to be able to belt it out like she did on stage in London these past 2 nights at 65 is something rather incredible indeed.
Also, just for the record, I actually prefer the Soundstage version of "Gold Dust Woman" over The Dance.

Hey, it's ok... I never said I thought she should be able to do it. It's just not "THE" wail.
I like it. It's good. I've listened to it throughout all the recent tours. The fact that she's still doing some kind of wail at all is fantastic. Sorry for raining on your parade there. Carry on. :)

YES!!!
Gypsy seems to be the one song for me that has never been as good on stage as it is on the album. Everything else is as good or better live, apart from that.

Yeah, I guess it does fall a little flat. And, I love that song. It's one of my all time favorites, especially of the singles.

It's the wail that she does on the album version of the song, she's just changed the rhythm of the last few notes. The pitches are the same. I'm at school so I can't listen to The Dance version but I'm certain the one she did in London the same as the album version.

Ditto. The lady of my life is named after it ;)

Gotcha. Well, God only knows how long it's been since I actually listened to that!
I think of "The Dance" version wail as trumping them all. To me.

Aww, cute! I was going to name a dog that once. I didn't keep it though.

Actually I prefer any band's live version of GDW over FM's live version from any tour but the Rumours tour in 1977. FM's just gets so boring the way it just kind of drags and takes forever to die out quietly after the "she's a dragon... Gold... Dust ... Woman..." part. It's like they don't play the whole second part of the song. They just ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist; it annoys me as much as it would if they were to stop "The Chain" at the last note of John's solo. It's like "where's the rest of the song?, where's the intensity that builds to a second climax? (the first being the Stevie wail). The Sound City Players seem to be the most faithful to the album version and effectively build that intensity in the second part of the song.

you know, Gold Dust Woman on this tour continues to blow me away because they keep getting better and better and better. I was watching this one and thinking that I never thought this song could ever be this good on stage...that they just didn't have this kind of magic left in them but clearly I was wrong. Stevie said this tour was going to be very different from Unleashed and she was right.

It seems as if with every passing year, it sounds more and more like "pick up the pizzas." Cowabunga, dudes.

I love GDW (as you might have guessed from my username)... and I love the live versions too... but what I really don't like is Stevie's odd 'dancing' towards the end of the song. Seriously, what the...?! It's just become too weird and ruins the performance for me. Is it just me?

I love it. Very dramatic.
I love it too. It's weird, but I like Stevie best when she's at her weirdest. It just feels honest, and you get the impression she's really into what she's doing, which isn't something we always get from her anymore.

I thought it was great. I wanted to go up there and zombie dance with her.

Just me then...
I liked it in the earlier live performances, especially her WWD concert, there's a video on YT somewhere and she does it then but it's more... I dunno, subtle? The phrase less is more comes to mind and I feel that way when it comes to GDW.

No I don't really like what she does either. Kinda looks like she's having a seizure. But I get what other people are saying that at least she looks into it and not going thru the motions.

To me it does look forced. That's the problem. It just doesn't look natural in my opinion. I wish she would get into the songs like she used to... but she's doing good for 65 so I shouldn't complain really.

I also am not a big fan of the interpretive dance bit.
Every once in a while, it lands, but not very often.
Good performance OP, thanks for the link.
