Fleetwood Mac: The Story Behind Christine’s Live Return
Lindsey Buckingham nearly blocked last night’s onstage reunion, reveals Stevie Nicks in MOJO scoop.
By ANDREW MALE SEPTEMBER 26, 2013
Stevie Nicks has talked to MOJO about Christine McVie’s on-stage return to Fleetwood Mac last night at London’s O2 Arena.
Speaking in an interview to be published in MOJO 241 (UK shelf date October 29) the diminutive Mac singer confirmed that while McVie, who left the group in 1998, has “just returned to do one song” it could have been “a few songs” if it hadn’t been for one particular stumbling block.
“Lindsey [Buckingham] is very funny about that,” Nicks told MOJO’s James McNair. “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. Much as Lindsey adores her; and he does – she’s the only one in Fleetwood Mac he was ever willing to listen to – he doesn’t want the first night reviews to be all about Christine’s one song, rather than the set we rehearsed for two months.”
McVie was met with rapturous applause last night when she joined her old band to play keyboards and sing Don’t Stop, and she will be appearing with the group again at their final O2 show tomorrow. But, while the route to the stage hasn’t necessarily been a smooth one, Nicks also added that “it will be wonderful to have her back up there with us. And from there who knows.”
In a candid, funny and emotional interview, Nicks goes on to discuss her childhood, her solo career (“Fleetwood Mac weren’t that impressed”) the “unresolved” aspects of her and Buckingham’s relationship, and the bizarre night she slept on the floor of Prince’s purple kitchen.

I realize Lindsey is a perfectionist & an uncompromising idealist... but come on. Christine was in Fleetwood Mac before he joined. She remained in Fleetwood Mac after he left. She was married to John for many years. She is in the rock & roll hall of fame along with Lindsey. The woman should have a right to step on a Fleetwood Mac stage any time she damn well pleases.
You'd think Mick, John, and Stevie would have ganged up and put Lindsey in his place on this. Surely they all know how badly us fans have been aching for this for the past 15 years. And how we'd love to hear more than 1 song, too. Not to mention, I'm quite certain Mick, John, and Stevie are probably hoping for Christine's return even more than the rest of us. Plus, it's the digital age... regardless of Christine performing 1 song or 12, it'd be out there on the internet for posterity.

As I've said in the Christine in London thread, it's all about the ego.

Shoot, then he'd probably do something dramatic, like leave the band again...I mean, be a little gracious for one of the people who built the foundation of the band you're living off of...

Lindsey does have a point on not wanting the first night to be about "the Christine McVie show", but I wish he let her perform a few more songs on the second two nights, at least.

Heck, I don't even see why it shouldn't be the Christine McVie show! I do understand the idea that all of the other band members have spent months rehearsing and then on the road, but still, if she has the skill to just jump right in, then why not?...I'm just frustrated.

I feel your frustration, my friend. I love the guy and respect his talents, but he can be a little [CENSORED] sometimes. Besides, it's only two nights.

Lindsey needs to grow the F up!! Come on. It's two nights out of the entire tour. He can read through glowing reviews of every show they've played and will continue to play for rest of the tour if he needs his ego stroked that badly. This really, really surprises me and somewhat reduces my respect for Lindsey. To me, his attitude is petty, childish and yes, ego driven. He, of all people, should try to have a little empathy and understanding of Christine - her reasons for leaving in the first place and her desire to return to the stage. And yes, Lindsey, she can "just come and go" because ultimately it's not up to you. Her fans have given her that right. Her fans say it's OK and that's all that matters.

It's not that Lindsey's concerns aren't valid - they are, and it makes sense. It's just that it seems a bit ridiculous at this point in the game. Fleetwood Mac doesn't have anything to prove. They're going to have glowing reviews whether or not Christine is there.

Oh my lord. This is why I need to check before posting and not write late at night. I don't think you can change thread titles can you? Off to go hide in shame for the misspelling of Chris' surname. Oops, my apologies...
I think there are some complexities to the situation that need to be acknowledged. I'm sure Lindsey has a very big ego and has enjoyed having to share less musical space post-Christine and all that, yes, but there are other things at play here. Christine changes the dynamic of the band completely. It is something of a different band with her, and adjustments are made when she's there vs. when she's absent. I think the idea that she could potentially flit in and out of it as she sees fit could be very frustrating indeed, given that, and I can see Lindsey's trepidation.
Yes, it's only one song for two nights. That's why he agreed to it. But I imagine he'd want to avoid setting a precedent for having a "part-time" member of the band who's only there when it suits her. I'm not saying Christine would've become that, in fact I'm sure she wouldn't, and she probably only really wanted to do one song anyway. But I do think he just wanted to draw a line. I can understand why he'd want to be cautious. It all seems fair enough, to me.
The outrage here would be more warranted if the article said that Christine was planning on playing with the band and then Lindsey stepped in and said "no", so she didn't. But that isn't what happened.

Obviously a line has to be drawn somewhere, but if, hypothetically, she is to rejoin, I don't see Christine as the type who would just go in and out as she sees fit. A more likely scenario is that she gives her terms, they work with it and try to compromise, after which she's in for the long haul. What, IMO, is frustrating for many people is how Lindsey saw performing a few more songs on the London shows as her "coming and going"

But we need to keep in mind that the quotes from this article are taken out of context from a conversation that Lindsey had with Stevie. And the analysis written is all based on speculation on her part. Christine isn't the type who would just "come and go", but Stevie would probably be on board with such a scenario if it were to come up, and it's Stevie that Lindsey was responding to. We don't know the whole conversation that Lindsey and Stevie had, but these quotes are not necessarily Lindsey's complete feelings on the entire situation.

This is why we need Lindsey's, and if we can, Christine's sides of the story. Hopefully they both give their POV so we get a grasp of the full context of this whole "Prodigal Pianist" saga.

I'm with the majority here - Lindsey's concerns are null and void. We're talking about a band that only does the nostalgia circuit. A band that has little to no interest in performing new material. A band that shows little to no interest in even *recording* new material.
Given those circumstance, and given that Christine can probably play these songs with one eye closed, one hand behind her back, and half awake while drunk, she should absolutley be able to come and go as she pleases on stage.
If this were a young band with a long future ahead of them, or even a band that is actively recording and defining their current 'sound' and touring to promote that material, then I'd be on the other side.

Lindsey doesn't see it that way. Most of us see it that way. Stevie probably sees it that way. But I don't think Lindsey does. I think he fights the nostalgia-act label to the best of his ability. After all, he wanted to a release a new Mac album this year, he recorded many songs for it, and an EP was released instead as a compromise on his part. And out of the 4 new songs they released this year, two of them are being performed on tour.
But yes, those who look at it differently are no doubt much more relaxed about the whole idea.

Right. I don't mean to bash Lindsey's concerns or his work making this four-piece work. It's just that he's only one....and as much as I believe he wants to make FM work, and as much as I believe he wants to record more and tour more and play new songs...I just don't see it happening without concessions being made for Christine.
And how weird is it that they have held on to these new songs the whole tour? I'm pretty sure many of us expected them to be dropped four or five shows in.

I think it's great. Both songs work really well live, and Sad Angel especially fits into the Mac canon with ease. You'd never know it wasn't a minor hit from days gone by. That they haven't been dropped is a pleasant surprise to me. And I pretty much hated the whole EP release. ;)

Same. He genuinely wants to keep the band together (perhaps the only one who want that more than he does is Mick), but while I'm glad he's starting to mellow out and improving the attitude, he's still got a long way to go. Deep down, they all know they need Christine (and Christine needs them). They all just need to sit down and communicate all these concerns after the tour.
Perhaps, if all goes well, they can leverage the Vegas gig as a way of fully welcoming her back into the fold, but that's just me. Just like The Dance was for Lindsey.
And yes, it's a wonder they held out those songs for so long. Not really digging the EP either.

If he actually wanted a new album, he could easily get one by working with Christine. WB would back that and Stevie would back that and I think Christine would agree and would have agreed in SYW, if she didn't have to tour. If he's not interested, well no album. He can stop talking about it wistfully then.
He wants an album with him and Stevie, but fans don't want that and neither does Stevie from what I can see. He actually got his way more with Christine in the band, because she actually sides with him, increasing his leverage. If he hasn't realized that in all this time, I guess he never will.
As far as his comments about this tour appearance, it's true we haven't heard his side of it and we haven't even heard all of Stevie's side. Maybe she will elaborate more in Mojo. Also, I don't even know why she's saying this to Mojo. I question her motives. But I have feared what she said in my mind ever since she said Christine would only be doing one song two nights.
I suspected Lindsey was the reason and it troubled me. I've been troubled all along. There was one interview months back, after Hawaii, where Lindsey said Christine was never returning to the band Christine but could come up and do one song or whatever she wanted and I thought "aha" because I wanted that comment to be true. I wanted her to have carte blanche to do whatever she wanted in London (not come and go the whole tour) and I was afraid he wouldn't allow that and I thought, "Oh I will hold you to that, LB." What she did in Hawaii showed me she was game to do more with FM, since she did more with Mick's own band, who she hadn't worked with during her pinnacle years.
I don't trust most of what Stevie says and hardly think she can explain Lindsey's rationalization without getting some things wrong, but if she's correct, Christine wasn't going to change his stupid setlist. She could just sit in on the songs. She could just do World Turning and then play unobtrusively on his and Stevie's songs.
By her not performing the first night, then all the reviews would be about him and Stevie anyway. All Christine would do the second and third nights is give them another burst of publicity, which her appearance last night IS doing.
For BTM, he came and did Landslide, GYOW and even Tear it Up with the boys, Rick and Billy, who had more to complain about him being there than he has to complain about Christine being there. There are five of them in the eyes and ears of most of the world. He can't live long enough to change that.

Well what gets me if he really did say... "She can't just come and go as she pleases"
Really? Does that sound like Christine McVie??
I mean that indicates to me that Christine somehow suggested that she:
A. Wants back in. or B. Was going to tag along like a full time member in London. or C. Mick and Stevie are suggesting Christine gets carte blanche.
He made the comment a while back that Christine's songs didn't come off well live. I couldn't disagree more especially after watching this youtube. I think her voice sounded fantastic, and the keyboards were that quirky sound that I love. Her Mirage stuff didn't come off very well live, but how many Lindsey Mirage songs do they do? Eyes of the World...
I think and still believe today that LB is finally running what's left of FMac, and enjoying being looked upon as male and doesn't want to battle with female. He has never really liked sharing the spotlight with 2 women and probably never will. To him, I think it doesn't matter that he himself has left the band too, it makes no matter that he himself joined them on stage after he left the band, and it doesn't matter that he rejoined FM and has done mostly nostalgia music with them in the last 15 years.
But.... I also believe that deep down inside he loved seeing Christine there as much as we did. Don't worry Lindsey, you have 48 out of 50 dates to shine and get your ya ya's out. :)

I think Lindsey got to do what he wanted during most of FM. As Christine said in the Best Buy interview, they all form a bed on which Lindsey can roll around and do what he likes. So, I don't think he had to battle with her that much when she was there. I think he was upset that she left, didn't think she would stay away when they started doing SYW and kind of had an attitude of, "Well if she wants to be out of the band, that's what she gets" after that.
In fact, Stevie actually said that in one interview, "If that's what Christine wants, that what she's going to get" and I think it was a verbal expression of Lindsey's viewpoint. Stevie said it, but it sounded like Lindsey to me. Like Christine made her exit and now she's going to lie in it.
If she wanted to come back touring and recording, then I think he would want that. But I don't think he wants anything less and would rather continue with what he and Stevie have carved out in the interim years without Christine.
I feel he's shooting himself in the foot.

A. Lindsey is such a dick for doing that
B. Stevie is almost as bad for revealing this at least so soon. Painting lindsey in such a bad public light.
I don't know how many breaking bad fans there are on the ledge, but for those who are you know how one of the main on going arcs is the relationship between Walt and Jesse going back and forth and every season there's that one event that severs the 2 of them from each other and turns them into enemies, well this article is that moment that I believe will be reversing the recent Stevie/Lindsey reconciliation.

It just smells of a bit of hypocrisy. Especially since they had the Tango tour booked and he backed out. And then after they worked on BTM, he came and guested. (Remember the reviews all talked about his appearance.)
I understand his reasons and I was glad back then that FM continued on without him. I think he is shooting himself in the foot too. He needs a breath of fresh keyboards and vocals. In my opinion, that EP sounds tired.

Um, I don't know what to say, because I don't know if either Walt or Jesse will kill each other -- if Jesse's already dead, don't tell me. IDWTK. Anyway, I hope we've gotten past the point where Stevie and Lindsey will murder one another. In fact, they acknowledged that in their SYW Mojo interview that it was a relief (and a surprise) to not have murdered.
I'm behind on Breaking Bad. I can't catch up before the finale and I don't see how I can stop myself from being spoiled. You can't even go to a restaurant without hearing someone discuss the show and the internet is completely awash in it.

I don't think Stevie painted him in a bad public light at all and I don't think she or he would interpret it that way just because he didn't feel it was ok for Christine to play more than the one song as a special guest. Christine may have not wanted to infringe either if she had been asked to do more.
The only people who are making LB out to be a bad guy here are the fans. His opinion and reasons were viable. It's just that everyone really misses Christine.

I think he will interpret it as her complaining about him. But even though he probably won't repeat what she said, when asked he is going to say something negative himself, being the "she burned her bridges" fiend that he is.
No his opinion and reasons are not viable. She's Christine freaking mcvie. She was in the band long before Lindsey and her presence would not distract from this magic set you rehearsed for 2 months. It would only enhance it. And since when does Lindsey give a crap about reviews anyways.

“Lindsey is very funny about that,” Nicks told MOJO’s James McNair. “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. Much as Lindsey adores her; and he does – she’s the only one in Fleetwood Mac he was ever willing to listen to – [B]he doesn’t want the first night reviews to be all about Christine’s one song, rather than the set we rehearsed for two months.”
What's the difference what night it is? It'll be the highlight of any of the reviews. And didn't the shows sell out? What does Lindsey care about the reviews?
Seems weird to me... I'm not even sure this interview took place...

It's illogical. It's like the whole, "Well, if she recorded with us and her song became a hit and she wasn't there to play it in concert, the world is going to end." It's a stupid excuse for .... I don't know for what. For his position that, "if she is not going to be in the band full time, recording and touring, then I don't want her."
It's such an incomprehensible stance to take. RECORD with her. She doesn't want to tour. He can tour all by himself with Stevie. FM albums will sell better if she records with them and then he can be alone with Stevie on the road with no keyboard and extra testicles. How is that not a win-win for everyone?

Well, the interview took place and I guess we'll get the full blast of it very shortly. But maybe there will be more context. Wildhearted was just lamenting the fact that the media just took Stevie's comment about Reese Witherspoon being too old and ran with it, when that's not exactly what she said.
Maybe Stevie said something different and even if she didn't, it's not what Lindsey himself said, but I know Lindsey is not going to say anything better than what Stevie said, even if it's different, because he's a nut on his own.
He's lucky that I don't wait until the quiet time in Say Goodbye and yell, "She CAN just come and go, Buster."
Anyway, on Friday, Stevie can you please stop Buck-blocking? Stop cornering Christine on the side with your hugs. Lindsey walk across the stage closer to Christine. Christine hug him back immediately. Everyone just make things right.

It's just that everyone really misses Christine.
I don't doubt for one second that Lindsey misses her either. We've seen over the years how much of a blast Christine and Lindsey had jamming with eachother (very noticeable on the Mirage video) and I think they have a lot of mutual respect for eachother as musicians.
From what Stevie said, I didn't interpret that as Chris not being welcome back. I read it as "ok, Christine is going to come and do Don't Stop, and that's brilliant, but we've put all this hard work into this show for 48 dates so far and did all the promotion, preparation etc for it so it will only be for Don't Stop"..I mean, the tour sold out before any mention of Christine's name - that hype only started after her appearance in Maui. So if Chris wanted to come back, she's welcome to, but she'd have to work hard like the others did. Last night's show was like a fine tuned machine, it ran perfectly and was absolutely amazing - I can understand why Lindsey would not want to disturb that as they've fine tuned it to perfection.
If Christine had been on board from the very beginning for the whole tour, it would be a different story.
It's illogical. It's like the whole, "Well, if she recorded with us and her song became a hit and she wasn't there to play it in concert, the world is going to end." It's a stupid excuse for .... I agree completely. Lindsey is acting a little bit too much like Fleetwood Mac is HIS. Which it isn't. At all. And if anything, Christine has far more right to be on that stage under the name "Fleetwood Mac" than Lindsey does, having been associated with the group since 1968.

Why on earth would Buckingham begrudge Chris's returning? The only affect it would have is to strengthen the band.
Maybe he feels the rest of them have put in all the work over the last 10+ years, and have been successful without her... still, whatever way he is thinking about it, it seems wrong. Especially hearing the comment about her not being able to come and go. I would welcome her back with open arms.

Sharing a mic for World Turning with her maracas would not upset anything. Brett and Neale could just carry on as usual. She wouldn't play.
Christine, if you want to do this, just do it. You don't need his permission. Just walk out there. It's your place.
Of course, she doesn't want to. She's not that type. But I'm just stating what my feelings are.

ok, peeps, untwist your panties.
this is a teaser meant to create commotion and interest for the upcoming article. she never said anything like the title - same as she never said that she had a candid 90 mins phone call with LB in that earlier article.
look at the words that SN actually said, vs what the author of the text implied:
while McVie, who left the group in 1998, has “just returned to do one song” it could have been “a few songs” if it hadn’t been for one particular stumbling block.
“Lindsey [Buckingham] is very funny about that,” Nicks told MOJO’s James McNair. “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. she talks about the first night. so her whole statement may have been about why 2nd and 3rd but not 1st night, and not about the number of songs.
we have no idea what "she can't just come and go" is about.
although, when i first saw the headline, i did feel exactly the same as Hawkeye, thinking that even if LB privately said to her exactly what the article implies, why on earth, during these days of exuberance and happiness for both the band and the fans that CM is back at least for a little bit, would SN want to put a damper on all that?????

well, i'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, before i see the whole article.
if she actually did paint LB as an a**hole who tried to keep Chris away, taken together with her hogging Christine on the stage yesterday, all the recent sisterhood stories, and implying she has some share in all Mick's hard work to actually make Chris thing happen... well maybe she did have some ulterior motif in revealing all this to the press. we'll see when we get the whole article.

I pulled this comment off of Fleetwood Mac News. This is another aspect of Chris joining the band that I had not though of and it can complicate things a little.
Anonymous said...
When Christine first left the band, she sold all of her rights to Fleetwood mac. Unfortunately under law, she cannot rejoin the band. Lindsey was very displeased when she sold her rights, as I would be too. Don't get me wrong, I love Christine to death, but she never should have sold her rights. Lindsey is watching out for the Mac so they do not get sued.

Interesting point about the complications over the sold rights impacting the practicalities of performing the classics onstage. Surely she could compose new songs and perform them under a new copyright (the old ones were Gentoo and Fleetwood Mac Music), but we know that's not going to happen. My gut tells me that whoever holds the rights to Christine's song would be willing to license them back to her to perform on tour (which we know won't happen), because the publicity would add value to the catalogue.

I know Stevie has not mentioned it, but this must be something the band has discussed as it has to do with how much money each member makes. However, "Don't Stop" is Chris's song, so I would assume that the band is having to pay whoever owns the song for the right to use it on the tour. I don't think publishing could/should not stop her from coming back to the band. The main problem would be the more of Chris's old songs they use the more money they have to pay someone for the privilege of using them.

Yes, there are different song rights. Christine sold hers, but FM also owns the songs that she made with them and she couldn't sell that ownership and control.
Take that horse commercial, FM gave permission for Everywhere to be used. The money Christine gets as a songwriter is the only right she can sell and that money is the same amount whether she's collecting it or someone else is.

If Lindsey said what Stevie is telling Mojo, then he has a smaller d...k than I thought.
However, even if she is accurately quoting him, I don't think it helps to publicize this. We're all on the high of Christine's appearance and learning this just sours the experience.
I want Christine to do another album on her own. On her own terms. Hope her recent restlessness spurs her on.

Well, is maybe where I am misunderstanding the comments then.I though if Chris owned the songs and went on tour with the band, regardless of how many of her song's they played Chris would get her cut of the profits after the tour was over like any member. And any royalty's she received from the songs would come from radio play or commercial rights.
However, If she does not own the songs and she goes on tour with the band, then again she will get her cut from the profits of the tour like the reset of the band, but since she doesn't own the song rights anymore the band has to pay song royalty's to whomever owns them now and that takes a deeper cut out of the profits.

The band doesn't pay more money to use Don't Stop on stage if Christine is with them than if she is not.
However, your point that there is money involved in their politics is a good one. If she recorded an album and toured they'd be splitting profits five ways rather than 4. The fact that they might make more money, might make up for the fact that they had to split it between more people, though.

It just smells of a bit of hypocrisy. Especially since they had the Tango tour booked and he backed out. And then after they worked on BTM, he came and guested. (Remember the reviews all talked about his appearance.)

someone said in that SN vs LB thread something about maybe there are such warring factions of fans b/c SN and LB themselves are fanning that. if she really said what is implied in mojo teaser, Stevie's comments to that magazine are exactly the example of that - this teaser single-handedly stopped the lovefest while completely trashing Lindsey. majority jumped on the bandwagon without much further thought on whether he actually said any of the stuff attributed to him. frankly, i don't think he has that much power in FM. if Stevie and Mick wanted Christine to do a number of songs, if Christine wanted that also, you all think Lindsey could have stopped it? be real!

A good part of the factions can be directly attributed to an endless number of interview comments made over a period of decades that spark polarity. The fans may have come to hate each other independently -- they always do. I'm sure Spock and Kirk fans hate each other somewhere. But in FM's case, statements by the persons involved have always been made to spur and reinforce the antagonism. In fact, we're actually living in an age where the negative comments are fewer now than they have been in the past. So, enjoy it.

I mean, I don't think he needs to say, "that hair clip is stupid" either. [Although Christine would probably say that to him]. Still, it's kind of an insult, so if he said it, he shouldn't and if he said it, Stevie shouldn't tell Mojo he did.

I'm inclined to think he did (and a huge drama queen too, like Stevie) especially during their heyday. He uses it less now, though he still has his moments.
Still want to meet him personally, though. The difference could be night and day.

i wish i wasn't constantly prompted into battle. :distress:
I don't like battles when he's not doing anything. Like when he was sitting around minding his own business and Wendy says someone kept Bob out of the Hall of Fame and everyone started thinking it was Lindsey, until she finally said it was Christine. That kind of stuff drives me CRAZY, because what rationale would Lindsey have for doing that. Indeed, Wendy identified him as the one member who supported her.
I also don't like the, Lindsey made Stevie wear a granny sweater attitude just because she said that Lindsey asked couldn't she wear something different. Lindsey always has something to say. That doesn't dictate her clothing choices. But she says he said that and then either she was forced to do it by him or she graciously did it so that her bosom wouldn't upstage him and his poor little ego. That kind of thinking was the reason for my stay in the mental institution that summer.
He gets blamed for everything. John can't have indigestion without it being his fault. So, I don't like the anti-Lindsey rush to judgment. But when it comes to Christine, I think the Mojo blurb just put my own secret fears into print.

With the Hall of Fame thing, I always thought it was either Mick, John, or Christine. While I'm saddened to hear that Chris was indeed the culprit, it didn't surprise me at all as she does come across as someone who takes a long time to forgive. The lawsuit hit her the most because she was his closest collaborator.
Okay, I'm not very familiar with the whole granny sweater thing, so no comment on that one. His personality makes him an easy target, though.

I don't think he has a particular ego about Christine coming on stage and stealing his ISA thunder. I mean, mainly because she never intruded on his stage antics in the first place (although because more of her songs were used, he obviously had less stage time for his own songs, but he could still do a NTF that never ended). Also, recall that it was not Christine's idea to do Songbird on stage alone anyway. She said the boys, including Lindsey, prodded her into doing that.
So, I don't think he has the sort of ego where he was jealous of the attention she was getting on stage for this cameo appearance. I just think he doesn't seem open to her working with FM on some things and not on others, like recording and not touring.
In that respect, I can definitely imagine him saying that "she can't just come and go". And my answer to that is why would he even care if she doesn't tour. Why not just record with her, as the easiest way to get new FM music?

I actually believe those exact words probably came out of Lindsey's mouth and they probably came out of his mouth during SYW too. And I'm usually not one to take Lindsey's side, but I have to agree with him on this one. Her leaving the band sucked for us, but imagine being in that band and finally making your comeback and then a key player saying she's done. It changed their dynamic, it changed their future, and her choice to leave the band affected all of them artistically, emotionally, and financially. I think Lindsey adores Chris and would gladly welcome her back to the band any day, but he doesn't want her to just "come and go" without putting some skin in the game and actually being in the band. If she is done, she needs to be done. She can't record SYW with them and then not tour, she can't do full shows in London but not any other city, and Fleetwood Mac can't cater to someone who is no longer part of the band. If she wants to do anything more than a few appearances during Don't Stop then she needs to actually rejoin the band and be in the band. And I think Chris feels the exact same way. It was probably Stevie (and also Mick) saying, "Oh let's have her do the whole show!!" and Lindsey keeping them in check. I love Chris and would love any involvement she has with the Mac in the future, but I can see why Lindsey isn't so open to it.

Or create a compromise and not do a mammoth-sized tour behind a hypothetical new album. Just some arena residencies in major cities, perhaps a few smaller venue shows, then release one of the shows on DVD. That would be very lucrative, plus they can focus on putting on quality shows AND not overwhelm Christine so much.
And my answer to that is why would he even care if she doesn't tour. Why not just record with her, as the easiest way to get new FM music?

Wait, I've got this...
1. Chris and Lindsey start the Buckingham Perfect train and record some things.
2. Ask Mick to play drums on couple of songs.
3. Chris and Lindsey debate on who gets to play bass. They especially avoid to bring up John.
4. They bring John along anyway.
5. They play together, realizing that they're breathing the same oxygen again.
6. Stevie finds out, and chugs along.
The events unfold 'organically' and voila, new FM album.

Lindsey, not again. When will he learn?....most of the fans aren't there for him. It makes me sad to say it, but it's true. No Stevie, no visibility and rock persona. No Christine, no pop hits. I don't know whose side to back since we all know how often Stevie gets things wrong, but it would be a shame if Lindsey precluded Chris from playing more songs. Especially if that meant performances of songs we haven't heard in years: Everywhere, Little Lies, You Make Loving Fun, Say You Love Me, and of course Songbird.
I love Breaking Bad. What a tv show. It made me so happy to read comments of other people touched by the show. It has been so good from the very first season, and the quality never really waver. I wouldn't equate Stevie vs. Lindsey to Walt and Jesse's relationship though, that one made me laugh.

Really? This again? I know plenty of fans who are there for him, or Mick, or even John. Yes, we all know Stevie has a larger fan base but she's not playing these huge arenas on her own so I'm not sure how you can say most people are not there for Lindsey and imply they are there for Stevie. If anything, I'd say most fans are there for the combination of Lindsey, Stevie, Mick and John. There have been plenty of reviews that have said Lindsey stole the show, so I doubt the tour would be as successful without him.
As for the article, I don't think there is enough information to start jumping all over Lindsey. There are no direct quotes from Stevie saying Lindsey said what the article implies. The magazine(?) is trying to create buzz and interest in their article, which appears to have worked. And since when did Lindsey have so much power in the band? He wasn't the reason they toured this year instead of last and he wasn't the reason they didn't record a full length album. If the others wanted Christine to do more there is plenty of pull between the three of them to make that happen.

But she wouldn't. They outnumber Lindsey, but if he was resistant, I think she would back off pretty fast. The other 3 can outvote Lindsey, but if he wanted her to do it, I think she would (just based on her unexpected level of participation in Hawaii) and if he wasn't open -- or she thought he wasn't -- then I don't think she would, no matter what the other three were begging. I'm not saying the other three were begging, but I do think it wouldn't matter if they all wanted her to do more songs, if she knew Lindsey might not want that. I do think his preference has weight with her. More than Stevie's? Yes, as far as Chris is concerned. She would defer. If he felt that way -- I hope he didn't.
But in the contract negotiating world does Lindsey have more weight than Stevie in the band? No, not at all. I agree with the argument that he doesn't have the power in that respect.

Or more likely, Mick gets them to talk.

 And Chris is the perfect person to do that. She lost some of her upper range (she failed to hit the high note during the "I'm not bound..." part of the song), but her voice is the most intact among the three. Just needs to adjust to it again because a full show would probably strain her.

[I]Lindsey Buckingham nearly blocked last night’s onstage reunion, reveals Stevie Nicks in MOJO scoop.
That seems like an intentionally alarmist comment intended to generate readership to me.
There's a lot of context here that I don't think we're getting, maybe intentionally, maybe Stevie wasn't being entirely clear. The whole statement comes out as Lindsey wouldn't let Christine do more songs (from their current set) with them, giving it a sense of friction between the two. However, if dissected a bit, one comment makes it sound like Christine would have done more songs, and another makes it sound like she would have done all three nights in London. In both of those instances, Lindsey has a point and is not slighting Christine. Christine's not in the band anymore, and should be a special guest, not the primary focus.
I think it's fair that Lindsey insisted the first London show be about the group that's been touring. It's not a slight against Christine. If she decided to come back full time, and it meant that there would be more in the way of Fleetwood Mac albums and tours, I think Lindsey would be all for it at this point. However, that's not the case, and it seems entirely appropriate that the current Fleetwood Mac have one show to themselves. That's what the primary focus should be.
"A few songs," could just mean the additions of SYLM, YMLF, Songbird, and/or Everywhere. In THAT context, "she can't just come and go" could mean "we're not going to rehearse more songs that will only get played on few nights" which also makes sense and is also not a slight against Christine. It's their tour, and she's the special guest.
I mean, it would be totally cool if Lindsey were like Stevie and didn't care about that, but he's not necessarily wrong or being a jerk because he does. They've had to work hard to establish that the band is a quartet now, that Christine's gone.
At this point, I take every interview with a grain of salt, and this one is no exception.

first, we don't really know what she said.
second, read all the comments all over the board from people saying how he's a dick etc... so even if you may not see it, other people do.
frankly, if what the article implies is in fact true, i too will jump onboard with others thinking he's a dick, and not very smart either.
OK..Here I go because I always have to take up for the underdog and on this board Lindsey IS the underdog. If you guy were shredding Stevie(or any other member of the band) I would be taking up for them too.
First, your right we don't really know what she said, nor do we know what question she was asked. But I do tend to believe the quote was used correctly. Why? Well it does sound like a Lindsey comment (the guy needs to remember when he's talking to Stevie, he might as well be talking to the press a lot of the time (not always) but a lot).
Secondly, I was kinda surprised too (thought not sure why?) at how nasty the comments were about Lindsey, and how fast the crucify Lindsey train started to move. It went from 0-60 mph in only a few minutes.
Lastly, as much as I love Christine and would love her to join Fleetwood Mac, I totally get Lindsey problem with her coming and going. If you worked your butt off rehearsing for a show for months trying to make sure the music sounds great, the stage lighting and special effects looked good and coordinated with the music etc... (and Stevie has said that Lindsey is the one that's in charge of all of that). Imagine how you would feel if a beloved band member made or started to make special appearances with the band. The show then becomes ALL about Christine's special appearances and all your hard work, as well as the music is pushed to the side.
The publicity over the last few weeks about "will Christine play or not play" has been enormous (and with good reason as she's not played with the band in 15 years) but it completely overshadowed the September 25, 2013 show, and now everyone is waiting to see if Christine will play in tomorrows show or not. All the hard work Lindsey has put in to make the show great has/is being over shadowed by Christine showing up and playing a song or two (or she could play the whole show it would have the same effect).
You can call it petty or egotistical (and it actually is) but I know a lot of people that would be just as ticked off for working really hard on a show and then having that work be virtually ignored because a coworker showed up and stole the show. And you have to remember that to Lindsey, Christine is a COWORKER/FRIEND. To us the fan she's much, much more, but not to Lindsey. Bottom line is when you do a good job, you want that work to be recognized and if someone comes in from time to time and steals your thunder, I can see how ANYONE (not just Lindsey) would/could get upset about it.

If you worked your butt of rehearsing for a show for months trying to make sure the music sounds great, the stage lighting and special effects looked good and coordinated with the music etc...
Thank you for that
All of it.
At this point, I take every interview with a grain of salt, and this one is no exception.
I mean, it would be totally cool if Lindsey were like Stevie and didn't care about that, but he's not necessarily wrong or being a jerk because he does. They've had to work hard to establish that the band is a quartet now, that Christine's gone.
yeah b/c we know Stevie never wants to rehearse stuff to death. ;)
remember this is a woman who picked the band to do crossroads with and then picked their songs she liked, learned them all on her own, before spending time rehearsing them with that band.
in contrast, Lindsey had no clue what songs the band he was asked to do crossroads with even had, showed up in nashville, tried a few songs for a couple of hours, and completely rocked out jamming on their songs for the recording.

since Michele said it was not like that during the rest of the show, i have to think it was excitement of the moment making him hoarse.
I can't promise that Lindsey wasn't hoarse during WT, but I can say he wasn't hoarse all night. If it didn't happen during Don't Stop, then it didn't happen long before it.

i do believe you are right (or whoever said that) about lighting etc. you could see in vids from yesterday how lighting and big screen was showing Chris a lot, at the right places. so they had to set that up. and yes, LB is making sure all that works out, he was already talking about FM lighting guy towards the end of his solo tour last year and starting to set it up.

This is professional and respectful behavior in the world of music (and theatre, and dance, etc). You come to practices and performances prepared. Rehearsals are for rehearsing, not learning. It sucks having to waste time to teach someone something they should have already known before they got there.

I'm not against a little Lindsey crucifixion. I'll hold one hand and put a nail in the other.
But as far as changing what they've worked on for 47 shows the least, realistically all Christine could have done easily was World Turning. No playing (let Brett handle that like always), just harmonize with Lindsey and shake the maracas. That could have been incorporated into the existing set. And World Turning segues into Don't Stop, so I think that can work nicely.
Oh, in my fantasy she could also come out and play the accordion on Tusk without disrupting what everyone else has been doing since April, but I know that's stretching things. Also, it would be silly to have her out for Tusk, then disappear and come out again later. Can't COME AND GO. But just trying to think of what she could do without a lot of shake up.
Most easily it would be World Turning and then Don't Stop.

I know. As I've said so many times, the Chain sounded better with Little Big Town than it ever has vocally with FM, since Christine has been gone. She adds something there that Lori and Sharon (and Jana) have never touched.
But if we were trying to not upset the structure the band has built for this tour in Christine's absence, in keeping with comments A Perfect Lie, Deeshere and Steve have made, then Christine coming on during the first part of the show and then going away and coming back again might be distracting.
As far as the first show thing goes, well it saved me money not to have her for the first show. Shorter hotel stay and no need to buy a ticket for opening night. But as for the reviews and the attention she is getting for three shows out of 100, I just say "suck it up." The eclipse is just a temporary one. And Ringo if you want to go do three shows on McCartney's tour and perform on SEVERAL songs each night, you go right along and do that too, buddy.

Speaking in an interview to be published in MOJO...“just returned to do one song” it could have been “a few songs” if it hadn’t been for one particular stumbling block.
“Lindsey [Buckingham] is very funny about that,” “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. – he doesn’t want the first night reviews to be all about Christine’s one song, rather than the set we rehearsed for two months.”
Stevie needs to learn to keep her big pie hole shut.
If she said this at all, does she ever have an interview
where she doesn't take a jab at Lindsey? Sure he does
some the same to her (and the others). But she complains
so much, and passes the buck - I'd be sick of working with
her if I were them.
If Lindsey honestly felt that way about Christine performing
with them, I've got to say I understand. If the Great Lindso

willing to bet he'd say good-bye.

There could be a lot of things. I think of all I've done in the past few years as a roadie/assistant, and I could easily imagine on a tour of that magnitude everybody needing somebody to help them out. Ray Lindsay was often called an "assistant" generally, guitar work included but not exclusive, while Stan's job is listed as "LB guitar technician." Michele
In my opinion, Stevie has the strongest (remaining) singing voice of the three, but she is also (vocally) the laziest. Boring, egotistical and a pain in the arse. Christine and Lindsey are decent human beings with a grip on reality.

Hi Ice, how's it going...
First, I don't think Stevie meant to stir up a huge sh*t storm. She's been talking about her personal life (as well as the life of everyone she comes in contact with) for so long, it's now become second nature to her. I also don't think she was trying to take jab at Lindsey this time either, she's just so use to not censoring herself that I really don't think she realizes that what she saying is going to make a lot of fans mad at Lindsey.
In the past I would agree with you that if Lindsey (or anyone in the band for that matter) could make a lot of money going solo he might not (I can't definitely say never) come back to Fleetwood Mac, but now I think he's actually enjoying being with the band (or as he's called them his extended family).
I just hope he and Stevie can get past whatever fallout they had while making the SYW CD, so we can finally get a whole new Fleetwood Mac CD soon.

I'm glad you said this, a few pages back. Christine had lost a little bit of the top of her range back in 1997-8. Recorded footage of "Oh Daddy" from The Dance Tour is a good example and available on YouTube. You can hear most clearly in the refrain: "Everything you do is just alright." I could tell from "Don't Stop" in London that her range has gotten smaller (and she did do a trick or two in there to hide not being able to hit a few notes), but understandably we only have one small verse from one song to look at today, and without several songs to get her voice going and properly warmed up. I know it doesn't get mentioned as much in discussions of why Christine left, but maybe she never wanted to get to the point when she couldn't sing her songs the same and had to fake her way through them. Tina Turner had a really emotional interview with Oprah a few weeks ago and discussed that feeling, how devastating it was when she had to resort to tricks to hit the notes she could once hit effortlessly, how she relied on certain songs to build her stamina for certain hits. It got me thinking a bit, for comparison with Stevie, who also has a legendary voice, which had a peak period much much briefer than Tina's. We've all seen how Stevie has changed "Gypsy" and relies on her background singers to quietly drop out of "Dreams." The natural aging process on the voice is sad. And for some people they mature much earlier than others, certainly the effects of substance abuse and alcohol consumption. I wonder if Christine would be comfortable singing songs like "Songbird" or even "You Make Loving Fun," for the fear that she wouldn't be able to capture what she once could to the songs.

The bottom part of her range seemed to have expanded since then, though, based on what I've heard on ITM, but that's almost 10 years ago. But knowing Christine's vices (especially since she's probably the most hardened smoker among them), I'm surprised it held up like that. She could've sounded worse.
The good news is that she could probably sing Morning Rain and Spare Me A Little in the original key comfortably now.

Right. John and Mick supposedly got less and Stevie was said to have gotten more than Lindsey, but I think if Christine was there, her, Stevie and Lindsey would pretty much have to get equal. I don't know.
Michele
Around SYW, someone in the know, posted that the breakdown for SYW Tour, was
Stevie 40%
Lindsey 30%
J&M 15% each.
And those figures would make economic sense.
IF IF IF Chris came back, I would suspect it would go to something like:
Stevie, Lindsey, and Chris 25% each
and J&M 12.5% each.
And the funny thing is, I think that Stevie would WELCOME that breakdown, given how it would ease things for her.
God, just let it happen!

I'm not criticizing Christine at all. It just got me thinking of how differently her songs could potentially sound. That was something I naively hadn't considered at all in following her return to the stage. Listen for "about" the next time you listen to the London "Don't Stop" in Chris' verse. Sometimes singers won't pronounce loudly their first sound or sing away from the mic, and then have an easier time reaching the note on a more severe sound, in this case the "bout." I don't know if I'm right, just something I noticed and will listen for tomorrow night.

The autotune, I figured out a long time ago. There's something different when she holds her notes in the later years, though. Her voice quality's amazing (and quite remarkable for someone of her age and with the vices she has), but it's not as effortless as it used to be. You could tell aging plus the alcohol and the ciggies started to catch up on her. I did know they lowered the key for her performances in Maui as they sound deeper than usual. That said, it helps that Christine's vocal strengths are mainly 1. her distinct tone and 2. the lower part of her range (both of which she retained). What helped in keeping them intact is that she sings properly (if I'm not mistaken, Lindsey has brought this up at one point, saying that she sings from the diaphragm as opposed to her throat like he and Stevie did and how it helped form her vocals), and does not try to oversing. Call it playing safe, but then she isn't known for her adventurous antics unlike her two cohorts.
Meanwhile, her playing looks as sharp and effortless as ever. I think she could still play most of the set with her eyes closed.

That's okay, I didn't take it that way. Just want to know what to look for in the song because again, I have no musical background aside from compulsory music classes in elementary and high school (and a bucketload of music to listen to). I'll take another (of many) listens and look for it.
EDIT: Manage to catch that part you were talking about. She did the same thing on Oh Daddy in the Landover boot from The Dance.

I think he was upset that she left, didn't think she would stay away when they started doing SYW and kind of had an attitude of, "Well if she wants to be out of the band, that's what she gets" after that.
If she wanted to come back touring and recording, then I think he would want that. But I don't think he wants anything less and would rather continue with what he and Stevie have carved out in the interim years without Christine.

Lindsey could be Angel Bunny, if we're talking finicky. Maybe Mick is like Celestia, what with trying to bring together the elements of harmony, but more concerned with money, and not as wise. I'm waiting for someone to pop in here and be like "What the HELL are those two talking about?"

 Actually the whole band saga is basically one huge Discord-ruled universe. I think the Mac can represent the Elements of Harmony. Stevie is Laughter, John is Loyalty, Chris is Honesty, Mick is Kindness, Lindsey is Generosity, and the chemistry they share together is the Element of Magic. :D
Meanwhile, back to the topic on hand. Where are we again?

I know, but do you think the show could really continue with Mick having one hand broken, even with the back up Steve Rinkov?
Rinkov reminds me, in looking at the tour program I was surprised to see John had an assistant. John, what is Mr. Bunker assisting you to do? Everyone has an assistant except Lindsey, now.
Michele
This surprised me too, yet the name looked familiar--John Bunker has been an assistant tour manager for FM previously and he's FB friends with band related personnel. I think he may have been on a post recently about a bass giveaway JM did for Carvin.
Anyway, maybe it's a way to keep a tour regular on the tour or maybe JM needed the extra help since he's had family along.

Hi Ice, how's it going...
First, I don't think Stevie meant to stir up a huge sh*t storm.
I just hope he and Stevie can get past whatever fallout they had while making the SYW CD, so we can finally get a whole new Fleetwood Mac CD soon.
I'm chilled to the bone baby.
As airy-fairy as she come across,

Getting past the "fallout" from making

My god I can't believe the huge stir up this article has caused!
I think everyone on here has a valid point about several things..it's so interesting to hear from everyone.
This is just my lil old opinion, but I feel like there are so many things we don't know or aren't taking into account. To me it makes no sense for Christine's first show to be in Dublin. Isn't she from London? Didn't Fleetwood Mac pretty much start there? Naturally it would make sense for her to show up there first.
Also, think about the set list for a minute. Don't stop is her big song, so having her first come out to World Turning is a little strange...could they have done it? Yes, but it wouldn't have quite the same effect. FM is pretty scripted and by the book when it comes to the tours so you knew you weren't gonna get any big surprise or anything out of order. Also, what would she do for Say Goodbye? Just awkwardly stand there while Linds and Stevie sing to each other?
I don't think Chris has any intentions of recording or touring with them again. If she did, then they probably would have been willing to do more, possibly add a song or keep her there for the 2nd encore. That would have been a great segway to a new album. But if she doesn't, than it doesn't really matter.
I also think things may have been different is she was willing to come to the US and do something. If she comes to the Vegas show, that might be a good time to throw in another song or two, since that appears to be the last show of this tour. Then they can play around with it and make it special.
Lindsey is protective and defensive about Fleetwood Mac and has admitted several times how pushy and intense he can be...so even if there's truth to the article, I don't think its a "wow Lindsey's an ass" situation. I think he just goes about it with more thought and detail than the others do. Stevie and Mick are probably thinking "who cares! let her do whatever". LB doesn't think that way and never really has.
Ok sorry....I'm done lol

The thing is that she rehearsed with the band in Dublin. If that's the case, why would it hurt to have her perform in one of the Dublin dates (most likely the second) as a sort of warm-up for the London shows?
I have to disagree on WT. Since it's a Christine/Lindsey tune, I think it would make perfect sense for her to join in that, even just singing and shaking those maracas. That would make a transition from that to Don't Stop a bit more seamless without messing up the setlist. As for Say Goodbye, I don't really have any idea myself so I'll probably agree with you on that one.
As for intentions to record/tour, based on little tidbits of information (Mick's confirmation that she's writing new music, her comments on being "rather lonely" in Kent, her contribution to Jenny Boyd's book), it looks like she's taking baby steps for another return to the whole music shebang, regardless if solo or with the band. Personally, as long as she releases new music, I'll be a happy camper. Actually, I thought about Vegas a while back. It's a perfect opportunity to reintroduce Christine back to the fold (if that's the case), and ridiculously lucrative, to boot. I dream that she does a full set for Vegas, but I doubt that would happen, realistically speaking.
With regards to Lindsey, he does have a point with his comments. Even Christine's approach to things appears to be closer to how Lindsey goes about things in that aspect, which could explain why he has more leverage with Christine there than her not being there. Most of the comments about that are about how fans were cheated on seeing even just a bit more of Chris.

I agree! That makes more sense to me.. and if that is the last show of the tour and she was willing to come to Vegas, it would be amazing for them to end the year with that surprise. They may be more apt to change things up and go out with a bang knowing that they don't have to do 10 more shows with the same lineup. I have a feeling the Vegas show is just going to be wild anyway. That would be ideal!

Ireland isn't part of the UK and the UK has always had the biggest music scene along with the US. Making it big in either the UK, US or both is always seen as THE achievement to make. Therefore, "Christine McVie rejoins Fleetwood Mac on stage in London" has FAR greater impact and will generate more press and hype than "Christine McVie rejoins Fleetwood Mac on stage in Dublin". When a big act like Fleetwood Mac sells out 3 nights at the o2 arena, the whole UK music industry is watching. Christine joining the band in Dublin would have really only created hype amongst the Irish music industry and the die hard fans like us. Christine in joining the band in the UK makes HUGE splashes in the press and within the music industry - it's currently all over every music website over here, which certainly didn't happen for Maui.
If Chris was going to rejoin the Mac, it had to be in a major city which would generate hype and no offense to the Irish, but London is a far more important city musically than Dublin.

I have to agree I don't think Chris will be at the Vegas show either. Because I don't think she wants to be a full member of the band again. It does seem like she's maybe wanting to record again and might do a little touring to promote it, but I don't think she really wants to make a full commitment to be in the FM army again.
Their touring scheduled is crazy. Chris has not done any heavy touring since..uh..mmm...1990? I know she did "The Dance" tour back in 1997, but that was only for about 6 months and for a band like Fleetwood Mac that's like a warm up tour. Also she's 70 years old and I can see that having to make that kinda of long term commitment with the band may not be very attractive to her anymore.
The reason I think she might have been willing to do some off and on date's with the band, goes back to Lindsey's statement that "she can't just come and go". Obviously, that could be a response to the question of if she could come and play a few shows with the band in London. But like you said since Chris does seem to be taking baby steps toward a possible return to music it and she did play with the band in London it seems that she might be willing to do some possible dates with the band here and there, but again she most likely would not want to make a full commitment to rejoin.

I don't know if Lindsey kiboshed Christine doing any shows in Ireland, but he really has a lot more power in the band than you are giving him credit for.
I do believe that most of the decisions in the band are divided 4 ways, but no one in the band wants to make him so mad he refuses to tour (I doubt he would quit again, even now he just says he took a long break from the band). And like I said before, he's the band's musical and lighting director, lead guitarist and jack of all trades now. I could be wrong, but I think when they are touring the rest of the band pretty much just shows up, rehearses and does interviews (except for John).
That being said it's a pretty sweet deal if you can get it, and even if it is 3 against 1(that Christine be allow back in the band part time) I doubt John or Mick (Stevie can go back to her solo work if she wants to) would want to force Lindsey into a corner because you never know what he will do.

Irrelevant. The UK still has the largest music industry in Europe, so without Christine traveling to the states and performing there, London was the only choice.
Incidentally, the tour was launched in Vancouver. Your point is invalid. No offense intended, I am half Irish so I do have some right to make the point I made.

She's definitely done with the mammoth-sized tours (as you said, she's 70 years old and if it wasn't appealing to her then, it certainly wouldn't be now), but she might have agreed to a shorter tour (maybe arena residencies in a few key cities as well). Though knowing how much money whores they all are, they're not gonna be willing to shorten the tour. Unless they could be persuaded to come up with a tour short enough to get Chris on board full-time, but long enough for a big payday. But if a DVD of, let's say, 2-3 full shows of that shorter tour with different setlists, were to be released with all 5 onboard, that can counteract the smaller revenue from the tours. But that's just how I see it. I'm sure the inner workings of the situation is more complicated than that.
On the other hand, if she does not rejoin (a more likely scenario), all I want is for her to release new music. Something like how In the Meantime worked for her, except that I would love her to do a few live performances in small venues in the UK where she could head home to bed right after. With the help of a few people, another suggestion is to do a live stream of said performances on YouTube so other people who otherwise wouldn't be able to come to the shows can still watch in the comfort of their own home or wherever they are.

Well, if it's important for any reason, it's because it's Christine's home. She didn't have to travel and it's also a momentous return for the longer term Macsters. So, I can understand an argument that that's where it had to be.

Unfortunately, I don't think a shorter tour will help either, because Chris has a fear of flying. So unless the band is willing to take a bus from city to city or schedule the shows with enough time in between for Chis to take a bus or maybe a train to the next city, I don't think she will be able to tour with the band for any significant period of time. That she was willing to fly from London to Maui to LA is pretty significant in itself. Maybe she's getting professional help with overcoming the fear of flying, but who knows? I think some members would be willing to travel by bus (maybe one could accompany her?), but some aren't.

We've already talked about the remedy
for this. The Griswold Station wagon.
It could be the European Vacation Tour.

But not everyone goes to the LB board, so not everyone saw that. But yes, that's a great idea

Speaking of which, someone on Twitter dubbed Chris as the Helen Mirren of Rock and Roll. I did like the cami Chris wore in the IYD premiere but I wouldn't go for a neckline lower than that.

Wouldn't it be a laugh to see all 5 members
get out of that old car to do a show. I guess
Stevie could ride on top.
I didn't see the premiere cami. But I've got
to say in my most politically incorrect fashion,
that Helen Mirren is the oldest woman I've ever
been attracted to. What a woman. No offense
to Stevie or Christine.

That's easy...Christine. Who's more use to
driving on the wrong side of the road?
Helen Mirren is one hot mamacita.

 then while she plays her choice of music in the car, the adult children (Lindsey, Stevie, Mick) whine about her choices while John simply does not give a f*ck
Lindsey: Chris, can you just--
Christine: Shut up, Lindsey. It's your own fault you forgot to bring your headphones.

Irrelevant. The UK still has the largest music industry in Europe, so without Christine traveling to the states and performing there, London was the only choice.
Incidentally, the tour was launched in Vancouver. Your point is invalid. No offense intended, I am half Irish so I do have some right to make the point I made.
It's a forum, anyone can chip in, and all points are relevant and valid. And you know I'm referring to the tour:European leg -was launched in Dublin, as Stevie herself even said “I think Dublin is the best place to start up again after 47 shows in the US''. You could have quarter, fifth, half, tenth nationalities it doesn't give you a magic right to piss all over a city's musical importance. Spent much time in Dublin have you? Probably not.

. Spent much time in Dublin have you? Probably not.
I have actually, but that's hardly the point. London has far greater musical impact. I can't quite remember who the quote came from - I think it may have been Bjorn from Abba that once said "if you make in the UK, you've made it!". The UK and US charts have far more impact than any other and as such, the music industry in both is bigger and has more cultural impact than any other. The UK press would've gone more wild over Chris performing in London than they would Dublin, regardless of the internet.
Plus, as someone has already pointed out, London is where Fleetwood Mac started and it's Christine's local gig.
For all of those reasons, it made far more sense for her to perform in London rather than Dublin.

Hey, I'm from Yorkshire. Up here, we have ZERO musical importance. Chris appearing in Manchester wouldn't have had as big of an impact as it did with London. London has HUGE musical buzz. Sorry, but a fact is a fact - no other European city has the same musical impact as London. Sure, cities have their own music circuit and culture, but not on such a huge scale. A big musical event in London has an impact that is felt in the music industry and music press all over Europe, whereas no other city really has that effect.

As nice as it is for Christine to perform in the Dublin shows as sort of a warm-up (large crowds, but smaller fanfare) and I still wish she did, London does have a far greater musical impact than other European cities.
Okay, I'm going slightly off topic here, but I wish Christine would get a Twitter account, if only as a means to give her something to do plus a means to connect to people. She sounds like someone who would benefit from it and has the resiliency to withstand criticism. Then again, she probably wouldn't give a flying f**k.

But isn't a large part of the problem her fear of flying and she'd have to fly...it's also a really long flight or at the very least a lot of flying!

She flew to Maui and LA this year.
She did fly and Mick said he was going to hold her hand the whole way (and I'm sure the poor girl had to white knuckle it all the way to Maui). She flying to Maui, then LA, then back to England, that would equal 4 times that she flew over the course of..I think about a month? (I thought she was going to stay with Mick about 3-4 weeks and then head to L.A to see Stevie and be there for about 1 week, but she could have been in L.A. longer). Obviously, what that means is that from time to time she can still handle it if she wants or needs to.
However, that is completely different than when the band is touring. Even if she was to appear in 25-30 shows, that can equate to 20-25 flights (I'm guessing in some of the city's they might have 2 shows instead of 1 so that would lower the number of flights she would have to take). That's a lot of flying time you are asking her to do, that's why I said either she would have to get her fear of flying under control or the band would have to schedule the tour with the shows spaced far enough out that she could take a bus from city to city.

The good part is that the fear ain't as bad as it used to.
Another option for the tour is to arrange the itinerary is such a way that it won't take too long to travel by land. Like for the american leg, all east coast shows first, then the central and southern part of the country, then west coast. At least to minimize travel time. Apparently most of Europe is reachable by land. Don't know about Australia.
And give us Asians a bone too. Definitely gonna have to fly though.
Or they need ways to keep Christine entertained.
