Christine McVie joined her old band Fleetwood Mac onstage earlier this evening (September 25) at London's O2 Arena.

Receiving a rapturous reception, she sang 'Don't Stop' with the group on the second of their three nights at the venue on their current tour of the UK. Another former bandmember, Peter Green - who left the group in 1970 - was in the crowd for the show, and Stevie Nicks dedicated the song 'Landslide' to the founding member of Fleetwood Mac.

Promoters Live Nation tweeted a picture of McVie with the band, playing keyboards and singing.

Stevie Nicks has said that Christine McVie will be appearing with Fleetwood Mac again at their final London show on September 27. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour earlier this month, she commented: "She is going to come and do a song on the second two shows." The band are set to play Birmingham LG Arena, Manchester Arena and Glasgow's Hydro after the London gigs. See below for information about their remaining gigs.

Fleetwood Mac will play:

London O2 Arena (27 September)
Birmingham LG Arena (29)
Manchester Arena (October 1)
Glasgow The Hydro (3)

And suddenly everything seems right in the world again. Even if it's just for another EP, even one song, I hope there's more from her in the future than a twice-off appearance. They really should just let her be in the band but not tour at the same time. Realistically speaking, it's not like the band has much further to go anyway due to ages, how long of breaks they take in between, so a final musical project feature the five would be one hell of a send-off for such an amazing band.

But dropping that for the moment, I'm going to open a bottle of champagne, put on my Rumours vinyl and enjoy the rest of my night waiting for the youtube videos to appear. Such an occasion!

And I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before. Like never before.

I have never been so happy in my entire life. Well, I was this happy in December 1990, but that was 23 years ago.

All evening I kept waiting for a clue that she was coming out. The fact that Stevie dedicated Landslide to Peter Green and didn't mention Christine was a clue, but Brett's piano set up didn't look any different. So, I was apprehensive.

I saw some flowers offstage to the side, could they be intended as a present for Christine.

Then, finally after World Turning, crew members brought a Yamaha keyboard onto the stage and I almost flipped out. I screamed and jumped like a school girl.

The band acted like they didn't know what the keyboard was for. "What's this," Mick wondered. Lindsey said: "I must say that set up looks familiar."

Stevie went over to it and pantomimed playing it with her gloved hands. Maybe it was for her her use??

Mick rose and said "Our own songbird" was there. Christine came out from backstage looking absolutely gorgeous with a leather jacket (coordinating with LB, huh), sparkling top and tight, black embroidered jeans.

She hugged Stevie. Lindsey walked over. "Christine," he said.

They hugged. She went over to the Yamaha and, in my opinion, played the demons out of it. She sounded beautiful vocally and, I'm no musician, but her playing seemed strong, fast and fierce.

Lindsey stood back from his mic and looked into her eyes. I was in front of her and could only see her profile. I don't know if she was looking back. I hope so.

Stevie was in the center of it all. Exuberant.

After the song, bows and hugs all around.

Then, following Say Goodbye she came back out. It looked to me that she sort of peeked around the corner when she came from backstage, to see if it was all right. They took a group bow. Such elation.

After everyone else left the stage Stevie said that "our sister, my sister" was there and it was magnificent that she performed a song with them. She said that she got so emotional that she felt that she was almost going to mess up the whole thing. Then, she said she has become what she is, a girl from Arizona and gave the dream catcher speech.

I've been jumping out of my skin ever since it happened.

My crummy photos and remaining review to follow.

Such a beautiful band and a beautiful night.

@lynseyshev: Stevie just dedicated landslide to Peter Green. He's in the audience. I almost cried #fleetwoodmac

Mixed emotions. Glad that Peter was in attendance and getting credit for starting this whole juggernaut and such heartfelt words from Stevie. However, the way she set up the introduction and the fact that she said she was choked up and there was water in her eyes, I was SURE she was introducing Christine. And I thought, "If Christine is in the audience, she won't be on the stage." So, then when she said Peter Green, my knees weakened with relief and I was more certain than ever that it would happen.

Right in the beginning of the introduction, Stevie started it so earnestly but then interrupted herself to talk to Lindsey. "I just wanted to make sure you knew I was here," she said to him. He was like "what??" She then made kissing noises at him and continued her intro.

Too funny.

Coming out of retirement for a moment (like Christine), I have to say this was one of the most magical experiences I've ever witnessed. I basically travelled to London for this, and I must say that my stomach sank a little bit after the encores when Christine wasn't announced. But all of the sudden, they quickly set up a keyboard and mic about 10 feet away (I was at my usual station between Stevie's monitors). To say that I flipped my wig would have been an understatement. And that huge arena, perhaps larger than any other arena I've seen them at, literally erupted when Christine walked onstage from where Stevie and Lindsey usually enter. She was dressed in black skinny jeans, a black jacket and a sparkly black cami underneath with magenta suede boots with little wedge heels. Her hair was stick straight and adorned with a little clip. She looked flawless. Amidst the commotion, I suspect she was terrified. He didn't smile because she was concentrating and making eye contact. She definitely didn't carry herself like a 70-year-old woman, and she still has that sleek grace about her. It's almost as if time stood still since The Dance.

Anyway, as for the performance itself... It's a blur. I don't remember much except for the killer piano solo she did, which was amplified higher than usual. In a flash it was over, and then the five of them were doing a group hug after the song. I only remember Christine's eyes and the fact that my iPhone battery finally died at that moment.

For me, the fab five Rumours lineup performances were only something I could appreciate in past videos, recorded professionally or through concertgoers--- I've never seen Christine play with Fleetwood Mac, but to me she's always been vital to the sound of the band and has written some of my favorite songs. To see her together with Mick, Lindsey, John, and Stevie, taking their bows together, was an amazing feeling. To see that keyboard where it should be, stage right, WOW...it finally filled the space that has been empty for over 15 years; it's never been the same without her. I can only imagine how it must've been to see in person, up close. Thanks to those who shared their experiences of the concert tonight. I can't wait to hear how tomorrow night goes. With Peter Green in the audience and Christine performing with her band, I hope Fleetwood Mac continues to hit everything out of the park. This concert tour has been a HUGE success all around, and has really raised the band's profile and has fans around the world ecstatic and reinvigorated. Now if they can play Glastonbury next year (!!!) and have a killer 50th anniversary concert, with songs from throughout the band's history...you know what, I don't think they are that far out of the question. Stevie was right: "2013 will be the year of Fleetwood Mac!"

WOW, Christine really does add so much to the sound of the band. I have always loved her voice, but you can really hear how much her voice and piano playing add an extra layer to the bands sound.

When she leaves again the band is going to once again sound incomplete. :distress::distress:

I didn't know how much I missed her until I heard that.

That was such an awesome moment. Thank you all for sharing. I have goosebumps all over and had to wipe away a few tears. The arena exploded when she came on. Stevie couldn't stop looking at her. Pure awesomeness!!!

Thank God we at least have photos and video.

Just back from the O2. A tad mind blown, so please bare with me. A few points about tonight's show from me:

Second Hand News is a much better opener than Monday Morning

Without You is FAR better live.

Gypsy was better with Mick's little drum kit than it was on Unleashed with the full set.

World Turning was tighter and smoother than I've ever heard it

Gold Dust Woman was out of this world. She did the full wail and it was FIERCE.

I could've lived without Not That Funny and Never Going Back Again.

VERY emotional. Lots of love, Stevie said some lovely things about Peter Green who was in the audience and dedicated "Landslide" to him.

Stand Back stuck out like a sore thumb. I love it, but it didn't work as part of that set and the crowd didn't really get into it.

Sara was a bit slower than it usually is. More like the HBO special version.

Oh yeh, and Christine was there ;)

Overall an amazing show. A lot of love on stage tonight, lots of banter and smiles and laughter from S, L & M. John was making "sleepy" mimes during the Without You story and smiling, which I've never seen him do anything like that before - even Johnny was feeling the love tonight.

Don’t you look back? That’s all I’ll be doing for the next 10 years: looking back on this incredible evening and wishing it hadn’t ended so soon.

Of course, there’s Friday night too, but the uncertainty and hope that led to exhilaration and triumph won’t be repeated. I knew she would be there, but feared she wouldn’t. The anxiety gave way to pleasure and once I saw them carrying that Yamaha onto the stage, she couldn’t get there fast enough. She couldn’t stay long enough.

Things started with a bang. Before Dreams, Stevie said that they’d done 47 shows and had 9 weeks off and she was very happy to bring these English people back here. She and Lindsey were very happy to bring these English people back to where it all began.

Later Mick also mentioned that they’d done 47 shows and said that they were in the middle of their tour, the half way point. So, does that mean there are 47 more shows to come or is he as bad at math as Stevie is. I expect 94 shows after tonight, Mick. Holding you to that.

Lindsey ends Sad Angel with a resounding “Oh yeah.” Stevie runs off stage to get dressed for Rhiannon and is late getting back, hurrying to her mic just before it’s time for her to sing.

When he starts talking about the Tusk album and the crowd cheers, Lindsey laughs and makes a “gimme gimme” gesture with his hands, encouraging them to applaud Tusk even louder.

For Landslide Stevie said she had an very special dedication to give to the song. She loves it when she’s in a place and can dedicate it to someone she knows – that doesn’t mean that when she’s in a place and doesn’t no anyone that the song isn’t special but ...she says that she’s starting to get emotional. She stops to talk to Lindsey. He doesn’t know what she is saying. She says that she just wants him to know that she is there. He looks quizzical and she then makes kissy noises at him.

She returns to her introduction and reveals that Peter Green is in the audience and she never got the chance to share a stage with him, but when she and Lindsey joined the band, she looked at all the old videos of Peter and saw [that’s probably not true] and saw how talented and gorgeous [don’t hit on the man] he was. It was “Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac” and she says that not a day goes by in her life when she’s not grateful to him for making it possible for her to be there.

For Sara I notice how she pats her hip to accentuate the “heartbeat” that never dies. When she sings into his mic, Then, when she turns around to hug Lindsey, it looks like she mouths the lyrics again into his ear: “all I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming.”

She says that people are taking bets on when the last time was that she sung that song onstage. She said first she said 1979, but she was wrong. Then she said 1981, but that was wrong too. Now she has the definitive answer. She assures us that 1980 was the last time they performed that song on stage. You know, in the beginning, I thought the year was inconsequential, but now I agree with those who say that because it CAN be verified and is not something that they have to guess it, I just think this is ridiculous.

Also, what did she check, who did she ask, to make sure that now there is no doubt that the last time it was performed was 1980? It sounds like it’s new info. Did Christine tell her that when they were reminiscing? Well, Christine is 70 so... don’t make her your fact checker.

Lindsey introduces Big Love and when he says “Tango in the Night” that album gets a loud round of applause too. It was big in the UK and I assume the band knows this. Even the phrase “looking out for love” makes the crowd cheer heartily. Lindsey says he was not looking for love. He was pushing back and defending against it.

There is no tapestry dropped down from the ceiling for the song. But the video screen gives us a nice black and white backdrop for his performance.

When she begins to introduce Without You, Stevie says that it is the comedy bit of the night. She says she will try to shorten it. Mick says, “Noooo. Noooo.” Stevie says, “Why, Thank you Mick.” Then she tells the audience, “he doesn’t mean it.”

She says she’s not going to shorten the song. She just wants to keep it within the confines where it will allow them to do three extra songs in the time it takes her to tell that one.

I notice that John just sits down during this intro. I hadn’t seen him do that before.

She says that WY is the nicest, most loving, no-egoed out song that she’s written about anyone and she wrote it about Lindsey, which means it’s somewhat about her too. .

She says when she found the song, she said to him that she thinks he must have helped her with it, because she doesn’t think she can play the guitar that well. He just raises his brow. She says it was lost and then she found it and played it for Lindsey and he said, “where has it been?”

She looks at Lindsey as she continues and says, “Why are you sweating?” He says, “I’m getting nervous.” She says, “I know you are,” laughing.

Stevie quotes what Mick said to her and she says that she is giving her Shakespearean performance.

When she turns the story over to Lindsey, he (fake) blusters and finally says that when Mick called him he said that he wouldn’t come without his girlfriend because he loved her that much. She bows to him. Then he adds, “And look where that got me.” Stevie howls, “No you DIDN’T just say that?!”

Lindsey scurries to Mick’s side and Stevie says he is hiding behind Mick. She advises Mick to just hit Lindsey with the sticks. She thanks Lindsey for bringing her with him into FM, because he didn’t have to. She thanks Mick and “Johnny Mac.” After her story is over she says to the audience, “thank you for your patience.”

For Gold Dust Woman at the end when she says, “You can’t fix this. You wish you could fix this, but you can’t fix this.” She cries “Noooo!” And repeats “you can’t save me. You can’t do it. You just can’t do it” She begins to hitch up her skirt, pulling it up her leg [Hey lady, this isn’t “Crash”] and she ends the song with “nooooo.” That’s a little twist from the last time I’d heard it.

So, Mick went through his band intros and since the next song was Don’t Stop, it was do or die. Now or never. Crew members scurried onto the stage with the Yamaha and a bench. Mick looked befuddled. ‘What’s that for? Hmmm. What’s going on?’ Lindsey mischievously says, “I must say that the set up looks very familiar,” but I guess he can’t quite place it.

Stevie goes over and pretends that SHE might play it. Christine emerges. She looks business like, rather than playful. I bet she’s nervous. I don’t remember all Mick said to introduce her, but he called her “our very own Songbird.”

Hearing her count down to the start of her own [I]Don’t Stop was incredible. 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4.

I hate Brett’s playful moment when he plays the keyboards with his elbows. It just seems silly to me. There was no tomfoolery tonight. Christine pounded those keys like a yeoman and was somehow forceful and effortless at the same time. I know she could have set out there through half of their set without missing a beat. Her piano solo made Lindsey’s guitar chiming in afterwards sound all the more powerful. I’m from Detroit, where cars are made and we celebrate their pistons churning up and down like a well-oiled machine.

That’s what Fleetwood Mac is. History, beauty, chemistry. Power. You don’t know what it is, until you lose it.

After Silver Springs and Say Goodbye, Christine comes back for the final bow. Five fireflies. Tonight and Friday, one last time.

Michele

I'm so glad I was able to go to London and the O2 tonight. I've never seen Christine and thought this is probably my last chance. When Mick announced her I literally was jumping up and down and screaming like a four year old. Some pics I took:

Doing it all over on Friday.

Lindsey's voice is hoarse. It wasn't like that all night.

Michele

yeah Lindsey's voice seems completely gone and hoarse during the whole song, interesting.

love the two videos posted so far and curious to see more - each has different angle that's so nice to see. loved watching Lindsey in that first video above, how he was totally singing and performing the whole song to/with Christine, all the parts he normally directs and performs to the audience, it was so nice to see him so happy and enjoying the moment. when the song started even listening to the video sound somehow sounds fuller, more complete, but maybe i'm just imagining that looking at the pic of all 5 on the stage.

thanks for all the great reviews! and thanks for sharing your gorgeous gorgeous photos, Erin! glad to see you made it Ed, and that you all managed to get upfront. :)

can't wait to see pics and videos of the final final bows!

Christine McVie joins Fleetwood Mac onstage at London's O2 Arena for 'Don't Stop' Fleetwood Mac Tickets

Stevie Nicks also dedicates 'Landslide' to founding bandmember Peter Green, who was in the crowd

We all wondered why do 2 nights and not all 3. Do you think it could be it's because the first night is the one where all the critics attend and give their reviews? Maybe they didn't want that pressure. The second 2 nights, the word of mouth would come from the fans, not the press. I was just considering that as a reason they might have done it, now that I'm reading all the first night reviews.

In the Without You intro, when Stevie told Lindsey that he didn't have to bring her into the band with him, he said, "I think it was our destiny."

I loved that line from him, especially on this night. Stevie said it was their destiny, but she said she was also tired of being a waitress and Lindsey knew that too.

Applebucked is right. Believe me, I felt the same way when Lindsey showed up after leaving the band. That would be an understatement, actually. I was crazed about Lindsey. I haven't gotten over him leaving. Luckily, Stevie has never left -- well, she was gone, for the Time tour, but ...

I've likened Christine's recent buzz to the prodigal son returning. The father wanted to celebrate and kill the fatted cow. The son who had never left felt a little outdone, but TOUGH.

Christine showed up at the end of the night. They had the rest of the evening and the last 15 years to themselves. Everywhere raced back up to the top of the charts in the UK this year. Her music is still helping them, from the White album to today. She deserves the attention. However, brief.

I wish she was more than just a guest, but I don't think it's possible to make too much of her. She's got 1/3 of my heart. She can have at least 1/3 of the attention right now.

Yeah I was thinking of the prodigal son too. In fact, that was a reading at church last week or the week before. It was recent though. It's appropriate. It fits. The father tells the offended son that everything he owns is his, but now is the time to celebrate the brother's return. He was dead and and now he's alive.

After all the non-musical stuff I’ve learned about this band since I really began following them in 2009…you know - the drama, vanities, mistakes, drinks thrown, punches thrown, money made and blown, accusations, secrets and spite and spit and screaming …..this event tonight was so unbelievable, so unlikely – absolutely epic. It’s not about ‘hey, there she is, but she only played one song?! It’s that she’s there at all, and that they’re all there together, after all that, and after all this time. And still getting the crowd on their feet for these great timeless songs. And those of us who are moved, I think, are thinking not just of how it makes us feel but also – wow, what must the others on stage be feeling? I can’t even imagine – I don’t care how ‘professional’ or jaded they are. It’s Christine – she’s here! With us – like no time has passed! After almost 20 years! Who would believe we are still doing this after 40 – 40! years…to packed crowds in enormo arenas! It’s gotta be so emotional, thrilling, validating, I don’t know…it’s just pretty damn amazing. And it also paid respect to the importance and influence of Christine to this band, whether she did one song or the whole set. I’m also mainly a BN person, but this made me tear up a bit too. And Peter Green? Geez, what must Mick and John be feeling?? Full circle – it couldn’t get any better for Papa Mick tonight, I don’t think-
To me, I witnessed (well, electronically anyway) just a little piece of rock history. It was strangely calming (??)– when they took their bows especially – what a great moment. Lucky those in attendance. Loved it-thanks for sharing videos, pics and reviews:D:D:D:D:D

Fascinating to see how the band is carrying Christine around on stage. Stevie going over, holding her from behind for the applause, then guides her to the bows, with Lindsey taking her from Stevies hand, backed up from John, taking care, too. The light is probably blinding when you are not used ot be on such a big stage and everyone makes sure that Christine is safe and orientated. It's just lovely to see how they care for her.

Fascinating to see how the band is carrying Christine around on stage. I know. It's like they know that she had to adjust after so long. They really still cared for her like they did all those years ago.

Did everyone who went enjoy last night?

Was magic wasn't it?

Did the meet and greet with mick. We checked in at 5pm but didn't get to meet mick until 6pm as there was a technical issue with one of Stevies' songs.

I have never done a meet and greet before but it was well worth the money. We spent 45 minutes with him.

One guy had already done the meet and greet 4 times already as Mick said about it when he saw him. Wow.

Spoiler: he said straight away that Christine was playing tonight and she playing Friday too.

They did almost 3 hours. Well worth the money.

Before the gig started the stewards said people on the end rows couldn't stand in the gang way but when the lights dimmed loads of people from behind as charged towards the front of the stage and was allowed to stay there so we went down the front too.

Lindsey likes the young women: dirty beast!! Noticed him eying up a couple of pretty young women: filth!!! Made me laugh :-)

Yep Peter Green was in the audience somewhere and when Christine came on stage everyone went mental: shame it was just one song.

I wonder if Christine knows how much she is lived by the band and fans alike?

So lucky to have seen her perform. Must have been daunting for her coming back on stage with them after all these years.

Well worth the money and I took some pics which I can post later if anyone wants to see them.

I'm crying, too. The Fleetwood Mac that I know and love, and grew up with, and has been the soundtrack to my life, was together on stage tonight.

God I wish she'd come back for good. Or an album. Or at least do one full concert, and let us have it on DVD.

And probably no one but musicians would notice, but Don't Stop was back in it's original key, of E. Stevie and Lindsey now do it in D, and strangely, they played it in D also, when Chris sat in with Mick's band in Hawaii.

You know, having seen the video, I couldn't agree more.

I don't think I have seen Stevie smiling on stage with FM like that in a loooong time. It looks to me to be a smile of pure joy; no facade, nothing half-cut about it.

McVie guests with Mac in London

Christine McVie guested with Fleetwood Mac at London’s O2 Arena last night for the first time since retiring in 1998.

Fellow former member Peter Green was in the audience as she rejoined for a rendition of classic track Don’t Stop at the end of the band’s second encore.

Fans hadn’t been certain which of Mac’s UK shows McVie was planning to take part in, although Stevie Nicks had confirmed she would appear at two of the five.

Drummer Mick Fleetwood couldn’t hold his emotions back and threw both arms in the air, whooping with joy, as the ex-member appeared on stage to an equally energetic audience response. But McVie herself showed a little more decorum as the waved her thanks for the welcome, hugged Nicks then moved to her keyboard to lead the track.

Following the performance she shared a brief conversation with Nicks before the band lined up to take a bow. They returned for a second encore without McVie, who’s expected to appear at the second London shows tomorrow. Mac also place Birmingham LG Arena (Sep 29), Manchester Arena (Oct 1) and Glasgow Hydro (Oct 3).

Earlier in the set Nicks dedicated the track Landslide to Green.

I'm so glad I was able to go to London and the O2 tonight. I've never seen Christine and thought this is probably my last chance. When Mick announced her I literally was jumping up and down and screaming like a four year old. Some pics I took:

Sorry I can't figure out how to embed with Google+ photos.

Doing it all over on Friday.

Thank you so much Erin for an absolutely stunning set of photos. I don't mind admitting I almost cried when I saw the clip of Christine back where she belongs. For me, Fleetwood Mac just isn't Fleetwood Mac without her, and although she only played the one song, I just wish I could have been there. Any chance of her recording with the band again? We can dream...

Fleetwood Mac: The Story Behind Christine’s Live Return

Lindsey Buckingham nearly blocked last night’s onstage reunion, reveals Stevie Nicks in MOJO scoop.

By Andrew Male September 26, 2013

Stevie Nicks has talked to MOJO about Christine McVie’s on-stage return to Fleetwood Mac last night at London’s O2 Arena.

Speaking in an interview to be published in MOJO 241 (UK shelf date October 29) the diminutive Mac singer confirmed that while McVie, who left the group in 1998, has “just returned to do one song” it could have been “a few songs” if it hadn’t been for one particular stumbling block.

“Lindsey [Buckingham] is very funny about that,” Nicks told MOJO’s James McNair. “I think his words were ‘She can’t just come and go’. That’s important to him, but it’s not quite so important to me. Much as Lindsey adores her; and he does – she’s the only one in Fleetwood Mac he was ever willing to listen to – he doesn’t want the first night reviews to be all about Christine’s one song, rather than the set we rehearsed for two months.”

McVie was met with rapturous applause last night when she joined her old band to play keyboards and sing Don’t Stop, and she will be appearing with the group again at their final O2 show tomorrow. But, while the route to the stage hasn’t necessarily been a smooth one, Nicks also added that “it will be wonderful to have her back up there with us. And from there who knows.”

In a candid, funny and emotional interview, Nicks goes on to discuss her childhood, her solo career (“Fleetwood Mac weren’t that impressed”) the “unresolved” aspects of her and Buckingham’s relationship, and the bizarre night she slept on the floor of Prince’s purple kitchen.

Here’s a grab from last night’s performance…

I just wanted to say that it's wonderful to see you post again. The Ledge just isn't the same without your insight.

I suspected this all along. And he was right, that moment took over almost the entire evening. The crowd went ballistic. I'm so glad it happened however, and hope it does lead to more from her.

Lindsey ONLY has to share the spotlight with Stevie now and he is still loving that. I don't see him wanting to share the spotlight with the beloved Christine AND the beloved Stevie. He really is running the show music-wise now. Sadly, I think he needs the magic of the 3 songwriters. The EP to me is lifeless and boring.

Maybe she burned a bridge with him personally. I've always believed they were very close musically, and like brother and sister before she left. Anyway, this article does not surprise me in the least.

I suspected as much. I see both sides of it (tho I sympathise with Chris rather than Lindsey), though I of course wish Christine had been allowed to do more than just Don't Stop!

Or maybe Mick and Stevie talked her into it without letting Lindsey in on the conversation.

I don't necessarily think she wants to work with them again. I think she's been asked by Mick and Stevie and agreed to do so. And then Lindsey balked at the idea because it takes away from what they've created over the last 15 years.

I have to agree, without that keyboard (stage right) it looks and sounds a bit bare. I'm sure he doesn't want that to be the contrast to the music and rehearsals that they've had. Everyone and their mother knows that they are better with her. Even he does.

interesting.

i saw the opposite from you all, and remember, i focus on Lindsey when watching these vids:

he was annoyed waiting to get his hug from Chris when she first came out b/c Stevie would not let her go.

then he was annoyed again when Don't Stop was over b/c again Stevie was holding Chris in the corner by the keyboards instead of letting her get over to the middle so they can all have the moment together instead of just Stevie and Chris.

he was BEAMING during the bows and kept catching Chris' eyes and then finally blew her a kiss as John was hugging her.

what i saw was extremely happy (and choked up, during the song!) Linds that she was there.

all we have to go on saying that he didn't want Christine there is Stevie's words. and you all keep telling me how consistent and believable her words are.

I see a mixture of both these sentiments from Lindsey. He's happy that Chris is there, as we can see on how he just looked at her for most of the song, and I think the peck on the cheek was very genuine. But at the same time, his ego kicks in with not wanting her to hog all the spotlight, which he should've expected even for just one song.

But I still suspect that there is still some tension between the two of them. Which is why a long talk is in order.

Yeah. I was looking for all the grumpy Old-Man-Lindsey moments and body language, and I just couldn't pick any of that out of the videos. I think people are projecting a bit of their preconceived notions, here. I do think it's pretty reasonable to believe that Lindsey had a lot of trepidation about having Christine back with them, though. But the idea that Chris may have done more than one song with them if it weren't for Lindsey may be just Stevie living in a dream world.

Regardless, this thread has made me forget that I actively dislike Don't Stop. So that is one hell of an artistic achievement.

Interestingly, the people who see the "bitter Lindsey" body language are the hardcore Chris fans. Maybe we're the bitter ones.

(As for me, I don't exactly see it as bitterness. More like annoyance in the lines of 'come on. bring whatever you're having there over here'.)

Oh I've always been a huge fan of Stevie and Chris' relationship *points to signature*. That made me very happy as well.

i saw the opposite from you all, and remember, i focus on Lindsey when watching these vids:

he was annoyed waiting to get his hug from Chris when she first came out b/c Stevie would not let her go.

then he was annoyed again when Don't Stop was over b/c again Stevie was holding Chris in the corner by the keyboards instead of letting her get over to the middle so they can all have the moment together instead of just Stevie and Chris.

he was BEAMING during the bows and kept catching Chris' eyes and then finally blew her a kiss as John was hugging her.

what i saw was extremely happy (and choked up, during the song!) Linds that she was there.

all we have to go on saying that he didn't want Christine there is Stevie's words. and you all keep telling me how consistent and believable her words are.

Interesting take.. and dammit to hell if you're not right about Stevie's words...

I think there's some truth to this. Stevie probably had to talk Lindsey into it with Mick doing a tag. Also, there's been all this talk lately of LB & Chris as a musical team. Stevie says that LB would listen to her, I believe that. So, it had to feel good to him to once again be at the helm completely and not have to rely on Chris and feeling probably a bit insecure at her music education that he didn't have. I don't think Lindsey disregards her at all, but it has to be a least a little bit of a kick to the ego to think fans think they are better with her than without her.

interesting.

i saw the opposite from you all, and remember, i focus on Lindsey when watching these vids:

Um, I was focusing on Lindsey in order to make my observation.

he was annoyed waiting to get his hug from Chris when she first came out b/c Stevie would not let her go.

He was annoyed because he wanted to get on with it.

then he was annoyed again when Don't Stop was over b/c again Stevie was holding Chris in the corner by the keyboards instead of letting her get over to the middle so they can all have the moment together instead of just Stevie and Chris.

I think what was going on here was they (and Stevie was head cheerleader) were trying to get Chris to come over and bow and maybe she was hedging. It looks to me Stevie kept nodding at her and telling her yes. Lindsey had waved her over and then did this:

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn92/trufan70/LB92513_zpsa61e7001.png (http://s302.photobucket.com/user/trufan70/media/LB92513_zpsa61e7001.png.html)

He held that stance for 8 seconds. This is annoyed/almost pissed off Lindsey. Mick went by him and is waving them over too, trying to move it along.

he was BEAMING during the bows and kept catching Chris' eyes and then finally blew her a kiss as John was hugging her.

Lindsey was the least happy, but I'm sure he was happy to have allowed the experience and happy his bandmates were so ecstatic.

all we have to go on saying that he didn't want Christine there is Stevie's words. and you all keep telling me how consistent and believable her words are.

The problem with your interpretation of Stevie is that you try to make it consistently one way. It's not. She's consistently inconsistent, meaning she is truthful and she is not and sometimes she's just mixed up. On this, she was telling the truth. She never said he didn't want Christine there per se, it's about the set list and the overshadowing her presence would do to his work. You should appreciate that. They worked hard to make this work without her. Unless she's really coming back (and we know she's not) then he probably sees it as a little bit of a threat. Also, he's finally got Stevie to a point where she is ok without her and maybe this could make her waffle on him again.

There's truth in this.

But I still suspect that there is still some tension between the two of them.

Could be.

Yeah. I was looking for all the grumpy Old-Man-Lindsey moments and body language, and I just couldn't pick any of that out of the videos. I think people are projecting a bit of their preconceived notions, here.

I don't have any preconceived notions about their situation. I don't know what went down, but I think the body language is telling. Lindsey was annoyed. What he was annoyed about, I don't know for sure, of course.

I do think it's pretty reasonable to believe that Lindsey had a lot of trepidation about having Christine back with them, though. But the idea that Chris may have done more than one song with them if it weren't for Lindsey may be just Stevie living in a dream world.

Stevie has as big of a say in the set. I don't think she really would have agreed to more than one either. It made sense for it to be DS.

Interestingly, the people who see the "bitter Lindsey" body language are the hardcore Chris fans. Maybe we're the bitter ones.

(As for me, I don't exactly see it as bitterness. More like annoyance in the lines of 'come on. bring whatever you're having there over here'.)

I agree, I don't see a bitterness. But, I do think he was in a hurry to get the whole thing over with.

Final note for all the Lindsey / Christine collaboration supporters: There is and has been nothing stopping this from happening except the two of them. So, for everyone who thinks that Lindsey should dump Stevie and go do something with Christine -why hasn't he? He does what he wants to. Frankly, I'm glad he wants to and chooses to work with Stevie.

You have to blame Elle and myself for bringing the LB/CM musical team thing (maybe that would get the ball rolling). IMO, it's Lindsey's ego talking here (the whole thing with Chris, I mean). and we all know how his ego is. As for the last statement, he should also know that things weren't exactly right when he was the one who left.

And Lindsey doesn't have to dump Stevie to work with Chris. I see it as a project on the side, like his solo career was (but knowing FM, it could turn into a FM album). But I still think the idea has crossed either of their minds.

That part was meant to be a little tongue-in-cheek. :p Yes, Lindsey and Christine thrive with each other, especially musically. And all I'm hoping is that this won't be the last we see of Christine, and hopefully we get the possibility of new material with her on board in any configuration (FM, that LB/CM musical team, solo, whatever as long as she's there).

Maybe they should record in the UK (London or Kent, perhaps), or even Hawaii. Might take some work (and it may not be the best situation for everyone), but it would be nice. Hell, why not get all of them in Christine's house (if in the UK) or Mick's place (if in Hawaii) to cut costs? Schedule recording in the summer so Lindsey's family can come along. You have two people who can actually cook (Chris and John) so there won't exactly be shortage of food either.

It's gonna be Benifold all over again.

Yep Peter Green was in the audience somewhere and when Christine came on stage everyone went mental: shame it was just one song.

Stevie said some really lovely things about Peter before Landslide, it was very sweet.

And, yeah, I'm beside myself that Christine hit the stage with them. I really am. Magical moment. But, there's sub-text (to borrow a Lindsey-ism) and extenuating circumstances that piss me off.

Peter Green is in the audience. Sure, Stevie's token "Landslide" dedication...they couldn't bring themselves to insert one of HIS songs into the set and dedicate it to him (especially THE ONE that has spanned every incarnation of the band since it's creation: "Oh Well")?? Granted he probably wouldn't have joined them on stage to play with them, but, they couldn't bring themselves to AT THE VERY LEAST invite him on-stage for final bows (even unannounced)?

They're already on my sh**list for totally ignoring Bob Welch's passing as if he never existed. (another case of them not bringing themselves to insert AT LEAST "Hypnotized" back into the set just for this tour since God-forbid they play a song that didn't have "Buckingham", "Nicks" or "McVie" as its composer). Almost Stalin-istic of them to ignore history. And, pretty much brings to light the REAL people "behind the mask"

I know. Christine and Lindsey are so far apart on stage that it's hard to watch both of them at the same time, but so worth it to try.

Christine is the type of person where ... it's never about her anyway, even on her OWN songs. And all night I was thinking, "oh she is here. She could come out and play the accordion on Tusk. She could share his mic on World Turning. She could play the intro on Silver Springs. She can only make everything better. She detracts from nothing. She distracts from nothing.

She's playing her heart out on keyboards, he starts grooving harder on guitar. Few things in life are better than that.

I thought about John last night. I wonder how that felt for him. Beyond imagining.

Oh yes. When the other guys were playing around doing their, "why did that keyboard just appear on the stage" routine, it looked like John was almost in pain to me. He wasn't smiling at the charade. Then when they left the stage he held her so protectively, as if to keep her from falling -- which she was not in danger of doing anyway.

So, for everyone who thinks that Lindsey should dump Stevie and go do something with Christine -why hasn't he? He does what he wants to. This is true. Lindsey could have worked with Christine doing the SYW album. I think he didn't want to if she wouldn't tour. Yes, he wants to work with Stevie, but he could actually do more of that working with Christine.

But the argument amuses me because I've thought the exact same thing in a different context. I think the comment is true of the so-called Lindsey and Stevie romance. Until Lindsey actually became a father, there has been nothing stopping Lindsey and Stevie from being together romantically except the two of them. They may have had some physical dalliances since then, but they obviously aren't compatible as long term romantic partners, or they would have been and would have been so monogamously at some point in these many, many decades.

I agree with you Elle as to what Lindsey was annoyed about. When Christine first came out Stevie had her and Lindsey walked over and waited for them to finish hugging. He had his arm outstretched and he wanted in on the embrace and enthusiasm. He was standing there a little on the outside and had to say "Christine" to break her and Stevie up. Then, he and Christine hugged too. He was not trying to rush the hug, he was trying to be part of it. Now you can say he could just wait his turn to be hugged, but in the past he never had to wait.

I got the impression that if he hadn't intervened, Christine might not have hugged him at all and he minded that. I honestly felt worse about her coldness towards him after the show than when I got home and looked at pictures, where I saw moments that captured their bond. I mean, who hugs whom seems like a childish thing, but when I think of the past, during the first part of the Dance tour when they gathered for the last bow, Christine would sometimes leave her piano and walk across the stage straight into Lindsey's arms. That's what I was hoping to see again. Maybe I didn't because she was mad (hurt, a little offended) at Lindsey and for good reason. I'm mad at him too.

But I don't think he was trying to rush anything along. I think there was a time when he was actually more physically demonstrative with Christine than Stevie was and, now, he was like a third wheel. Based on what I saw between the 3 when Christine first took the stage, before Don't Stop, I think that's what bothered him at the end when Christine came back for the last and second bow. Stevie was approaching Christine as soon as she emerged from back stage and then as soon as Don't Stop was over. She started hugging her again. John had an opportunity to move in himself but he kind of made a gesture as if Christine should enjoy the crowd's applause alone and bask in it by herself for a second. But Stevie didn't hold back, she just HUGGED and basically detained Christine on the one side of the stage. Instead of letting her walk to the middle. I think he felt left out that first time and that changed his manner when she returned after Say Goodbye. He had walked over before, but when he'd done that, he wasn't let in on the hug immediately, so I think pride kept him from walking over again. That's why he waved for them to come center stage.

Now, I DO think that there was a little tension. Lindsey has never done it during Don't Stop before, but he can actually walk right over and be a lot closer to Christine if he wants (after the vocals are done and he no longer needs his mic). He could play by her piano. He's done it before on other songs. He could meet her halfway. Christine and LB have had a lot more physical contact in the past than they had last night and I do think there was a reason. Of course, I keep in mind, that's not the first time he saw her. He saw her in Dublin. He saw her backstage. Maybe they had a lovefest offstage. But onstage, I felt that he felt the coolness and minded it and wanted to get in on the hugging action more, but did not feel welcome and maybe there was less action because of his dictate that she only perform on one song the last two nights.

They're already on my sh**list for totally ignoring Bob Welch's passing as if he never existed.

I do admit to wincing slightly when Stevie, in her Without You "comedy" ramble said that Fleetwood Mac's guitarist had left without even mentioning his name. I also thought Peter Green didn't get quite the ovation he deserved from the crowd- I sensed that knowledge about the band before Year Zero wasn't exactly spread equally around the O2.

You're right, though. As she acknowledged, Stevie's ramble cost the show three songs, and sometimes she doesn't quite know when she's losing her audience. Oh Well, or my own private fantasy, the re-emergence of the Green Manalishi would have been superb. Odd that on the only tour of the last three that they played Oh Well, Peter didn't turn up, or at least he wasn't acknowledged if he was there.

And what happened to Albatross? It was played on the PA after the end of the show on the SYW tour, but never since.

The whole, "this is a sisterhood" theme is actually a fallacy. I don't think that Stevie and Christine have had that kind of closeness since their condo days during the recording of one album. And I do think Stevie was monopolizing Christine a bit and prolonging the photo opps between them. I think Christine even thought it a bit much the way she quickly patted Stevie's hands when Stevie came up behind and hugged her.

I mean, Stevie is very genuine. I will never forget when Lindsey came onstage for Landslide during the BTM shows, obviously it was Stevie's time to shine with Lindsey in the spotlight, but she made it a point to acknowledge Christine over at the piano in the musical break during Landslide when she was not singing. Stevie made that reunion a threesome. So, Stevie is always going to be effusive over Christine and it's heartfelt enthusiasm, but last night I got the vibe that Lindsey felt it was exclusive and that Stevie kind of cornered Chris, making it less of a band reunion than a Christine/Stevie one.

Actually, I think a nervous Christine would have been much happier going to the piano and getting Don't Stop knocked out first and then embracing everyone afterwards, once those jitters were over.

Fleetwood Mac's sprawling 2013 tour just touched down in Europe, and the band marked the occasion with a very special guest during their gig at London's O2 Arena last night: Christine McVie. The keyboardist walked on stage to a wave of exuberant cheers – plus the hooting and hollering of Mick Fleetwood – and assisted her former bandmates in a full-on attack of one of her most important contributions to their catalog, "Don't Stop." Luckily, some well-placed fan captured a very good quality video of the performance.

Fleetwood Mac Talk Reissuing 'Rumours' and Making New Music

McVie left the band in 1998, and just last year, Stevie Nicks said she thought there was close to no chance for a full-fledged Fleetwood Mac reunion. Last night's gig, as Nicks recently promised, was the first of two shows that will feature McVie.

The timing of McVie's brief reunion worked out well, too: Fleetwood Mac's classic line-up is celebrating the 35th anniversary of their classic LP Rumours, which they just reissued. Fleetwood Mac also recently released a four track EP, titled Extended Play, their first collection of new tunes since 2003's Say You Will.

yeah that was the feeling i was getting watching those 3 videos and all pics that were posted: like Stevie was working really hard to show everyone how much she just loves loves loves that Christine is there, to the point of hogging Christine's limelight, and not allowing anybody else to show how happy they were. i mean, Mick?? come on! the man worked for at least a year to make this happen but did he get to hug Christine on stage?

i didn't sense Christine being cold towards anybody, from what i've seen in videos, but i was not there so couldn't get the vibe.

Well, she wasn't cold exactly. I should describe it in a better way. I guess, I got the feeling that she might not have hugged him, if he hadn't pressed it. Obviously, I couldn't hear what was said between them, but he said "Christine" loudly enough that I did hear it all the way over and it was like he had to really butt into things and initiate their exchange, when normally I would not have expected that. You know how someone might not notice you were going to give them a high five and you're left hanging? That's what I thought was about to happen, that she might have just not connected with him physically at all, but he didn't let that transpire.

I think it would normally have been a more reciprocal thing, with her also reaching out. But once they did interact, it was more than sweet and special.

Holy posts.

I think is more of being 'reserved' than being 'cold' with Christine. Agree that had Lindsey not pressed for it, he would've not have gotten physical contact with her in the first place.
Gotta love how he was looking at Chris for most of the song, though.

Also, this is only the first night. Maybe things would be somewhat different tomorrow.

Yes, but she usually isn't that reserved with Lindsey. But hey, it's been 15 years.

I hope things will be a little different. I mean Wednesday was fantastic though, but I think what would help is, just let Christine walk out, either she will just do the song and hug afterwards or if she wants to hug first let her get center stage and then every man for himself. Just everyone can grab a waist, an arm, a hair clip, a breast, whatever they want ... I don't care, but let her get kind of within grabbing distance of everyone, then hands on. Don't ambush over to one side.

I mean, Stevie is Stevie. I don't forget AHI when Lindsey came out. She was like, "What can I say...can I say it yet?" She was anxious for him to get across the stage and she had to run over and check because he wasn't coming. That's how she is.

Anyway, if I changed anything, I would change that, also I would want Lindsey to come over to Christine after the singing is over and they're bringing the instrumental end of Don't Stop to a close. He can be right up at her piano actually. I would love it.

But I was ecstatic with yesterday too, just on edge.

As a Christine/Lindsey fan, I did expect more PDA from them, so I know where you're coming from. Yes, everyone should be withing grabbing distance from her. Let Mick stand up from the drums, for chrissakes! And to more Lindsey/Christine physical contact.

I don't think the "sisterhood" thing is a farce. Stevie and Chris might not have been as close as they were in the 70s by the time the 90s rolled around and Chris left.. but all we've heard since SYW is how much Stevie misses Chris (and not just from Stevie - from the others, as well) and how different the dynamic is without her there and how hard it was for Stevie to get used to it. Just because they weren't best friends doesn't mean the lack of her presence didn't upset Stevie and it doesn't mean Stevie wasn't overjoyed to have her back even for one song.

By all accounts, Stevie's a touchy feely kind of gal. I think the combination of being happy Chris was there, wanting to make Chris feel welcome on stage, and having emotions (good and bad) running high just brought it out all the more in her. And it wasn't as if Christine wasn't reciprocating. She held onto Stevie's arm throughout her hug with Lindsey.

I don't know, I hug a lot. So it never seems as weird or excessive to me as it does to other people when hugging occurs. I'd be the girl chasing people down for hugs at the end of the school year and attempting to never let them go.

Haha! Stevie was being extra clingy with Chris, but you could tell it was just because she was so happy she was there. And, Stevie obviously has always admired her. I'm not sure it was because they ever hung out but Christine probably made the "workplace" a lot more fun with her sense of humor and her way of cutting through the bull.

Stevie just couldn't help herself she was so excited. If you look back at photos from the Christine era you can see that Stevie and Chris have always klung to each other...their arms around each others waist or hand holding walking accross the stage. Yes, Stevie was hogging Chris ....she was giddy and loving having her back....

i don't know Stevie.

what i can say is, that when i saw her on stage, at several concerts i attended, she didn't seem nearly as annoying as when just reading stuff about her. she seemed amused, happy and curious. she looked sad during Silver Springs while looking straight at me and my little 10yo enjoying the show together.

there was only one show i saw where she did come off as somewhat annoying.

but frankly, i can't really say because i really don't look at her much during shows.

I think people read way too much into their body language. Remember, in addition to hear dislike of hotel rooms and flying, Christine also cited stage fright as a reason for her retirement, so given that it had been over fifteen years since she last played to that type of crowd, I would imagine she was all nerves and had no intention of snubbing anybody. As for Stevie-sisterhood-hogging-Christine thing, remember, Stevie also nearly refused to tour without another woman in the group, almost leading to Sheryl Crow.

It was cool that Christine did it, and I’m really curious as to why she’s suddenly flying to Hawaii and getting talked into performing by Steven Tyler, and why she’s offering to play with Fleetwood Mac, at least on a very limited basis. Maybe we’re all reading way too much into it, but it is curious.

As cool as it was to see Christine again and have “Landslide” dedicated to Peter, it would have been even cooler if they would/could have brought Christine and Peter up and done “Get Like You Used To Be” and “Stop Messin’ Round” as a quartet, then bring up Stevie and Lindsey and do “Oh Well,” and finish with the “Rumours” band doing “World Turning” and “Don’t Stop.”

I don't think the "sisterhood" thing is a farce.

I didn't say it was a farce -- as if to imply it was fake. I said it was a fallacy and just meant that I think that there is a belief that they are closer than they really are.

I think they are all close, having spent so many formative (career) years together. But I don't think Stevie and Christine have a lot in common, which is why they haven't often been in touch over the last 15 years until now.

As for the hugging, I think it's natural. I just would have thought it would be more evenly distributed.

Love is in the air for return of the Fleetwood Mac: Adrian Thrills gives his review as band tour Britain

By Adrian Thrills PUBLISHED: 01:51, 27 September 2013

Rock’s greatest soap opera rolled into London this week as Fleetwood Mac began their UK tour with a marathon concert dominated by the hits of the Seventies. Emotional punch was added by the presence of two ex-members who were major players in the Anglo-American group’s chequered history.

For a rollicking encore of Don’t Stop, the band were joined at the O2 Arena by keyboardist Christine McVie — onstage with them for the first time in 15 years.

Earlier, singer Stevie Nicks dedicated a poignant Landslide to original Sixties guitarist Peter Green, who was watching from the wings.

As a generation-spanning audience demonstrated, our love for Fleetwood Mac shows little sign of abating, partly because their biggest hits are still so intertwined with their love lives.

The classic 1977 album Rumours was made amid drug-fuelled excess and personal turmoil, with drummer Mick Fleetwood in the throes of a divorce, the marriage of bassist John and keyboardist Christine McVie on the rocks, and the romance between singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham in meltdown.

To complicate matters, Nicks and Fleetwood later had their own two-year affair.

As the return, albeit for just one song, of Christine McVie confirmed, everyone is the best of friends these days, although the sexual tensions of old lingered in songs like Don’t Stop (Christine’s kiss-off to John) and Go Your Own Way (Lindsey’s bitter adios to Stevie).

The Buckingham-Nicks relationship was also played out for theatrical effect onstage. The former couple, a formidable creative double-act, hugged each other and slow danced during Sara, and walked on holding hands before the encores. At one point, Lindsey — to loud cheers — gave Stevie a gentlemanly kiss on the hand.

Having played 47 American shows in 2013, the band were perfectly cooked. With McVie and Fleetwood providing a fluent rhythmic backbone, Buckingham drove the show musically, setting the tempo with some impressive soloing in the Rumours-era opening salvo of Second Hand News, The Chain and Dreams.

But it is Nicks who gives the group their charisma. Teetering around in black stiletto boots, her microphone stand draped in hippy beads and scarves, she was mesmerising on Rhiannon and Landslide, the latter an acoustic duet with Buckingham.

Alongside the enduring excellence of their songs, it is also the presence of Nicks that connects the band — now all in their 60s — with a younger crowd. Most of the junior members of this audience were female, and it is no coincidence that the new acts most obviously influenced by the group’s classic hooks and harmonies are girl bands like The Pierces and Haim.

Fleetwood Mac’s ongoing appeal also says a lot about the value of experience. From the Stones at Glastonbury to Rod Stewart and Springsteen, many of this year’s best gigs have been played by the veterans, and there was certainly an impressive level of artistry on display here.

As Mick Fleetwood bellowed from his drumkit as the 11 o’clock curfew beckoned: ‘The Mac are back!’ Indeed they are.

Wow, is SN hitting that low 'D' note (i think it's a D) at the end of GDW. Love it if she is. Screw the high notes, love hearing her taking chances in the bottom end of her range. I bet she can go about 3 tones lower, too.

Wow! I still can't believe it. Some of the scathing reviews of this Fabulous Band on YTube about them being “Commercial” BS after 75. Just look up “Behind the Music”. Some here may agree about this, but I have to disagree. Yes we have Stevie who wrote romantic poetry and LB that perfected her songs in music and publishing to the ionosphere (is that even a word?) LOL..

What drew me to FM in the first place was the obscure lyrics of SN, then the collaboration of ALL the members. I fell immediately in love with Chris, Lindsey and the “bass” boys on ALL of their songs! What A Fu@&ing band that rivals NO ONE!

Don't even get me started on the Harmony of these perfect lyricists. Pure Perfection driven by McVie, herself. She is a soother....the cool water beneath the fiery tones of Buck and Nicks. Reviewing the recent articles about CM joining on stage with the MAC has brought me to a teary-eyed conclusion. Not the Actual Event itself. It was great to see her perform again.

The point of this post is that FM is NOT Commercial BS fodder! From their very beginning, Stevie, Chris, and MICK (overall) saw something Different Than The Norm. And I celebrate that initial thought with every performance since 1969? I love every incarnation of the band, commercial success or not and am NOT ashamed to admit it....What a Fu@&ing Legacy to uphold Mick, You Are the Man!
Now could we persuade Chris in doing one more final tour? Even live on DVD would be GOOD! All Is Good!

I'm with you! I wish everyone who made fun of how commercial the band is had heard their entire catalog. I'm not saying that would change everyone's mind, but it would certainly surprise quite a few people who have no idea of what kind of depth, complexity and meaning the group's music has, despite the pop appeal that took them to the heights of fame.

fleetwood mac live in london

recently at work (i work in the music industry) we were asked to name our top five artists for a battle of the bands competition. i could only name one, and so was disqualified. that band was fleetwood mac. if you ever read my m is for music post (when the pictures still existed), then you will be somewhat familiar with my fleetwood mac appreciation. if not, it goes like this; they're amazing. the end.

so, a hundred years ago when the rumours began about them headlining glasto, i was preparing for my first camping festival. then, amidst the second hand news of their u.s tour going ahead, i braced myself for the news that dreams are made of; they had confirmed uk dates. come the morning of the pre-sale, nic - another macophile and friend from work, and i sat at our computers at 9am knowing if we didn't secure our tickets that day that we'd never be going back again.

well, we didn't. it sold out in minutes, so we had to wait like mugs for the general sale the following day. stuck and work and with little faith of our own, nic had given her mum strict instructions to "don't stop refreshing the site" until the tickets were ours. we waited with baited breath... "if they've sold out again, i don't wanna know" i'd said to nic, fully preparing myself for the worst. minutes later i got the call i'd been nervously anticipating all morning; we'd got the tickets! and the cheaper end of the scale too! "oh daddy!" i cried down the phone to nic, all the while praising that gold dust woman in my head, mentally adding her to my christmas card list and preparing to name my first born after her too.

months passed, and although it was always in my mind, i'd basically forgotten about it until the week of the gig. between packing for our holiday, planning birthday catch-ups and dealing with my pulled neck muscle, it wasn't high on the agenda! come wednesday morning though, things were different. like the songbird i am, i was humming mac tunes all day, and nic, amy (another macophile at work), and i couldn't contain our excitement at work. everyone knew where we going that night. nic and i had planned to meet her mum for dinner before the show, and naturally, invited amy along. "you gonna go your own way?" we'd asked - not knowing she was meeting her boyfriend there later, so instead planned to meet her in the sky bar before the show.

at 5pm, i unshackled the chain around my desk and and swanned out the door, bound for north greenwich. there, we met nic's mum at wagamama, and indulged in some delicious pre-show japanese before indulging in the glamour of the sky backstage bar - again, thanks to nic's mum's sky package! this woman, i tell you what. she sure does make loving fun! ten minutes before show time, we took our seats... in the front half of the arena, at ground level! we had amazing seats! we weren't sure we were in the right place, but a quick check with the usher revealed that we defnitely were. excited to the point of peeing, we waited... and then...

i watched, wide eyed, as one of my favourite bands of all time played their classics, their hits, some new tracks, acoustic and electric tracks, and even some of their solo tracks, for the next three hours. three hours. and, as if that wasn't enough, during the encore, christine mcvie came out and joined the others in stage for "don't stop", for the first time since 1998 when they were inducted into the music hall of fame. it was totes emosh; seeing lindsay and stevie hug and kiss each other, and knowing all about their history was just... epic. nic and i caught each other well up during the poignant speeches, and go giddy during lindsay's multiple orgasms guitar solos. it was just... amazing. i have no words; nothing can describe what happened on stage.

when we left, i literally couldn't wipe the smile off my face. it was the gig of a lifetime (have had a few of those in london), and i simply cannot believe that i've seen fleetwood mac live. like literally, cannot believe it. it still hasn't sunk in. my life is now complete.

have you ever been to a gig that made you feel that way?

(you should be impressed that i fit the whole 'rumours' track list in this post. i'm not even sorry.)

Christine McVie joins Fleetwood Mac in London concerts

For the first time since pretty much retiring from music in 1998 (her Mac swan song was at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), singer-songwriter-keyboardist Christine McVie, now 70, performed with the band, reports Britain’s Express. She joined the band at the final two of their three songs at London’s 20,000-seat O2 Arena.

Looking slim, trim, happy and relaxed, the blond songstress, dressed in black jeans and black leather jacket, came onstage each night to deafening applause. She then sang lead on the final song of the concerts, her biggest hit, “Don’t Stop.” Afterward, she joined the band as they took their bows.

Will she join the band again either in concert or in the studio?

Fleetwood Mac Live at The O2

They’ve never been less than enduringly popular, especially in this neck of the woods where sell-out shows are the norm. But for some reason, Fleetwood Mac have suddenly become hip with a much younger audience. In fact, a sizeable contingent of the crowd tonight weren’t even born when the band’s 40 million-selling 1977 opus Rumours was released.

In truth, it’s not difficult to work out why they’re so acclaimed after all these years. As well as being a formidable hit-making machine, the ‘Mac has a lot going for it, not least the bewitching stage presence and voice of Stevie Nicks and the guitar playing and songwriting genius that is Lindsey Buckingham (looking impossibly fit and healthy).

Meanwhile, the founding members – drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie – hold their own as one of the finest rhythm sections in rock history.

Opening with a powerhouse trio of tracks from the aforementioned Rumours in the form of ‘Second Hand News’, ‘The Chain’ and ‘Dreams’ makes for a high-octane start to what is a lengthy two-and-a-half-hour show.

The hits keep on coming, with early highlights including a seductive ‘Rhiannon’, the haunting ‘Gypsy’ and the hypnotic ‘Gold Dust Woman’.

There is room, too, for a new song – ‘Sad Angel’. It is a surprisingly meaty but melodic rocker. A trio from Tusk includes the title track and the lovely ‘Sara’. The star of the show and the one who keeps it all together is undoubtedly Lindsey Buckingham; his electric and acoustic strumming is, as Dave Fanning comments after the show, nothing short of astonishing. A solo version of ‘Big Love’ sees Buckingham display some incredible fretwork gymnastics, as does ‘Never Going Back Again’, while a lovely acoustic duet on ‘Landslide’ with Nicks was another memorable moment.

However, it is the mega hits that have the packed arena on its feet with ‘Go Your Own Way’, and ‘Don’t Stop’ eliciting ecstatic responses. The encore ballad ‘Silver Springs’, a Rumours out-take, has become a deserved live favourite take. The hoped-for appearance by former member Christine McVie, who was said to be rehearsing with the band in Dublin, proves unfounded. But no-one is complaining.

Christine McVie and me at the O2 by ALANA DIXON

But, despite an ever-burgeoning passport, a self-satisfying list of European sights and South American escapades, and mastering the art of slipping through the masses to score the last empty seat on the Tube, I've struggled to think of another moment to top my list of moments since setting off on the Big OE.

Yes, folks, you might have tickets to Vector Arena but I defy you to trump seeing Fleetwood Mac belt out folksy rock jam after jam at London's O2 Arena.

The evening did not start off the way I hoped.

After making the mistake of first heading to a bar in the Square Mile for some pre-show drinks (oh sure, I'll pay [PndStlg]19 for a shared cocktail that arrives in a miniature bathtub filled mainly of ice- cubes not booze, and, oh sure, I'd love to be surrounded by Hooray Henrys loudly discussing how many zeros are in their salaries! That doesn't sound irritating at all) we came to our senses and decided to venture to the surely packed-to-the-brim bars around the stadium.

From there the night was on a steady, skyrocketing improve.

In a moment of sheer brilliance, a consensus to buy some cheap Sav at a mini Tesco was reached so, upon arrival in Greenwich, we joined the troupe of concert-goers lounging around the concrete, supping in both London's tacit approval of public drinking and the surprisingly balmy autumn evening.

(The evening's warm-up entertainment: peering at the group of people taking part in the newest craze for London singletons, a group blind-date version of Up At the O2 - getting strapped into a harness and venturing out onto the 52m-high walkway, in the dark no less, is one way to sort the men from the boys, I s'pose.)

Then it was time for the night to reach what I thought would be its pinnacle - hours of live Fleetwood Mac listening pleasure.

There aren't many bands that sound as good live as they do on their polished- to-perfection iTunes downloads. Even fewer that can make that claim, when the average age of its five "classic" members clocks in at 66.4 years.

Fleetwood Mac is not one of those bands.

Ignoring the buzz-kills who seem to crop up at every concert - I kid you not, the guy next to me had his fingers in his ears the whole time - and the burning in my heel-clad feet, I was one of those who defied the posse of lemony ladies, and the security guards they tried to enlist, who kept insisting everybody "sit down".

At. A. Concert.

Most people have one act that serves as their happy place.

For me, that's Fleetwood Mac, who have been a constant presence during summers in Wanaka, house parties, and road trips since ages ago.

So to be in the audience at the O2 - a venue that would be hard to beat, no matter who you're listening to - was magic.

To be in the audience to witness Christine McVie - arguably the band's most underrated member - perform with them since the Nineties, was even better.

That, my friends, was the pinnacle.

(Of the night, and possibly also my life.)

The only disappointment, apres- concert, was watching the video clips I somehow managed to shoot, and being confronted with now-irrefutable proof my alleged singing is actually more like tone-deaf warbling.

Once, I made a special point to thank Mum in public for teaching me all the words to Fleetwood Mac.

I'm not sure the people around me would agree - and maybe that explains the dude next to me - but what I said then still stands.

Wow...this is a great version of the story. Couple of observations.

Lindsey: He called me up and said...Lindsey would you like to join Fleetwood Mac...and I said...(turns to Stevie) because I love you so much...I said Mick if you take me...you gotta take my girlfriend too...

Lindsey: And where did that get me? ... (What did you say Lindsey?!?!..Do we really need to explain it to you??..does anyone else have a video of this part of the shows that shows what Stevie did in response to Lindsey saying that?...I'm dying to see Stevies response..)

Lindsey: I think it was our destiny (wow Stevie got Lindsey to believe in destiny)
