I'm not the biggest Crow fan. Why? Because I think of her as a great imitator, not an original. However, I will say that I really like her new album. The first single Easy is a decent country song. There are a couple other songs like that but the real gems are:
1. Waterproof Mascara (song about being a single mother, tearjerker and very simple.)
2. Homecoming Queen
3. Crazy Ain't Original
4. Stay at Home Mother
5. Give it to Me
These are small songs gems reminiscent of Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and Dolly and they are good. They are more country than what is played on the radio today.
I give the album 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Did anyone else buy this? What are your thoughts?

I actually gave it 4 stars on Amazon but I would agree with 3.5..It is not my favorite of hers but it is solid and consistent..I do like Waterproof Mascara and it did remind me of Tammy but of course it doesn't come close to what Tammy was capable of..That lady was one for the ages.

There is also some Bobbie Gentry (Ode to Billie Joe) feel to some of these songs.
I'm very surprised that I continue to listen to this album. The little story songs ring true.

Have you heard her version of that song?

I think a long time ago, I know she was infatuated with it and used the guy who did the strings on it on one of her songs.

My favorite is Loretta Lynn. She is country to me. Followed by Dolly, Patsy and then Tammy. Tammy had a lot of weird things going on in her life. The TV movie they did on her SUCKED.

Tammy was a dear lady who was controlled by her 5th husband. He was a major jerk and I say that from first hand experience. Her daughters are sweet people though.
Love Loretta & Dolly. :)

They did a movie on Tammy's life and it sucked. It was not in the same league at all as Coal Miner's Daughter. I thought Annette O'Toole blew the role, but it was written one note.

Yeah, it did. But, I still liked it in all it's cheesy glory. Another thing to blame on Richey.

Hrmm, I have to say, to me "Homecoming Queen" is kinda uninspired and trite, lyrically. "Waterproof Mascara" to me feels a little too thin in the chorus but I like it a bit better.
I was a huge fan of Sheryl Crow's first three albums when I was a kid/teenager, I agree she wasn't as original as like a Kate Bush or Bjork of course but she was kinda one of those "right time right place" artists for me. After that though there are only a few songs per album that I really like as much as her early ones. I do like her country side, but the lyrics have to be a little stronger for me.

she got a decent debut with this cd but i would love for her to put out something like the globe sessions again. i think that was her best work.
The sixth, and final, arrival in the Billboard's top 10 is Sheryl Crow's "Feels Like Home." The set, which is the singer/songwriter's first country effort, bows at No. 7 with 36,000. On the Top Country Albums chart, it opens at No. 3 behind Urban and Bryan, respectively.
On the Billboard 200, "Feels Like Home" marks Crow's ninth top 10 album, and all eight of her studio efforts have reached the top 10. (She also scored a top 10 title with her 2004 greatest-hits album, "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow.")

The Globe Sessions was so great, probably my favorite too. Sheryl Crow was a little funkier but the songs on The Globe Sessions felt more personal and real. Being 14 would've never been the same without it for me, heheh.

totally agree with you that is what i loved so much about the cd. it was more raw and not as slick as her other stuff but yet it was so personal. ahh i was 21 at the time and going to college and that cd got me through some long car rides to and from school everyday. i think i need to get that cd out and listen to it tomorrow at work!

I liked the Globe Sessions. In my opinion it contains her best song ever, The Difficult Kind.

Well these songs aren't 5 or 6 minutes and they get to the point. They are small and heartfealt and that is what I love about them. I was listening to Ode To Billie Joe the other day and I noticed that Bobbie Gentry never did say why he jumped off the Tallahassee bridge. The song is just about finding out that someone jumped off a bridge. In a small town that is a HUGE thing, but to some poeple that might seem small or thin. Compared to today's half-ass country, these songs are great.

Yes, Easy is a decent country hit so far, in the top 20. That's really good. Country is really popular now.
