Stevie Nicks praises Miley Cyrus: 'She has the ability to be great'

Stevie Nicks has praised Miley Cyrus, predicting that she will have a long and successful career.

The Fleetwood Mac star told the Loose Women panel that the 'Wrecking Ball' singer has the ability to become a "great songwriter".

Asked what advice she would give to young talent going off the rails, Nicks said: "I think that people will be sorry. I am going to use Miley Cyrus as an example as I happen to really like her.

"I happen to think that she - unlike some of the other rock and roll 'slash' actresses that we are really worried about - has the possibility and the ability to be a great actress, a great singer and probably a great songwriter and go on until she's my age.
"I think that she will not be very happy with what just went down two weeks ago. When you're really young, you don't think about even ten years from now or five years.
"I actually didn't either. I was really focused. I was really focused on who I wanted to be and what I wanted to be and I knew I was going to be in this business for a long time."

Cyrus has caused controversy in recent weeks with a provocative performance at the MTV VMAs and by going naked in her new music video.

I don't know- I think Miley knows exactly what she's doing. She's breaking free from the mould of being a child star, and is forging her own identity. She's not doing anything more provocative than Madonna has been continually doing for the past 30 years. I think it's only mildly shocking (to some people) in Miley's case because she is a former wholesome Disney child star. In reality, by being so outlandish, Miley is laying the foundations for her career as an adult.

I do think Stevie's right in one regard, though: Miley will be around for the long haul. She seems exceedingly bright, and I can tell she actually has some talent, too. People like Britney Spears who have come from a similar background have faded because they don't have any substance behind their antics. I think Miley does. And unlike Lindsay Lohan, she seems to be centered enough to not spin out of control. It'll be interesting to see what she has to say now that she's garnering the world's attention.

If what Miley had done had been mature, sensual or sexy, I might agree with you that it cast her into a new, adult light. But it just seemed stupid and juvenile to me. Maybe without the tongue.

I think she and Robin made themselves seem more like jokes than the appealing artists they can be.

But I agree that she has talent. She could easily carry the lead in a romantic comedy. It might be because she has a deep voice, but I've always thought her advanced for her age and she has true comedic skill. On Hannah Montana her dad looked lame in comparison to her.

Britney Spears hasn't faded. Wasn't her last single with Will I Am number one? And her last album was a huge success... I mean, it's not 1998. But it's not as if she has faded into obscurity.

I think Miley knows what she's doing but I don't think she realizes the majority of the general public is laughing at her. I think she is bright but unfortunately I don't think she is all that self-aware, probably due to having been surrounded by yes men from the age of what, 11? And I say this as someone who has been a huge fan of Miley (actually, I worked on a set with her years ago.)

It's when you dance or move around in a manner so that your posterior protrudes. In Miley's case, Robin Thicke was on the receiving end of the protruding posterior.

I know the definition says "to dance" but, it's not actually dancing. Twerking is an old stripper move, that became main stream a few years ago. You bend over, place your hands on the floor, put you behind in the air and shake it for all it's worth. :lol:

Well, the tongue is the thing. That was just -- it was Three Stooges. I mean, the tongue didn't say, "I'm all grown up now." It said the exact opposite. And I don't think anyone was turned on by that. I mean, Gene Simmons' tongue throes are sexier than that. I know she was being playful and going for a feline kind of groove, but if your cat kept doing that with its tongue, you'd take it to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

I'm glad Stevie commented, because when I saw Miley I thought of Stevie anyway. We know what she said about Madonna kissing Britney and Christina all those years ago, so I knew she would be disapproving and I was hoping we'd get some words from her on the subject.

I know. It's become the norm over many, many decades -- nay, centuries.

On that night though, Robin was packing some pounds. So, I'm not surprised he was fully, fully clothed. His stomach was protruding.

Well, in our case, at least we've kept some balance. Remember in the seventies, Lindsey was the one running around in that half vest thing, with his back and chest out. The women were dressed. :lol:

I was watching Entertainment Tonight tonight . Sir Elton John commented on Miley could be the next melt down like the others have had.

I sorta agree with him on that statement.

I guess thats what the artists do these days to get attention.
