No joke, Belinda Carlisle's solo albums are being reissued in deluxe format with 2 CDs and a DVD for each.

I just don't understand why Stevie hasn't been able to get the same treatment. Some of these reissues I see blow my mind - even a one-hit-wonder band like Incubus had their entire catalog reissued on vinyl only a couple months ago.

Wow! As much as I do like Belinda, this just makes me sad. Why on earth Stevie hasn't had her albums remastered before her is just beyond me??

No offense to Belinda is intended. Just to be clear on that. And I'm happy for her fans.
But Stevie said this was happening back in 2004, and still there's nothing, 9 years later.

But Stevie said this was happening back in 2004, and still there's nothing, 9 years later.Unfortunately, for us fans Stevie tells us many things will happen than they never seem to. Its kind of sad. I agree at least her first 4 solo LP's/cds should've been reissued with extra tracks. Most of us have the outtakes etc. Someone will make $$ off of it one day. Sad they don't realize that day is NOW not later. Later I may not care than. So much could be released Stevie and Mac its not even funny. Bella Donna alone could be what 5 or 6 cds with DVD's added for extra measure. The only one that would be kind of short would be WH because they didn't record for long. But there are outtake photos and I'm sure DVD material. RAL there are ton's of outtakes/extended versions/UNR songs etc. Mirror, SA , TISL not sure so much about the newer IYD's one though. Outtake photos tons of those. I guess I'm happy for what I do have cause it probably won't see the light of day. So sad really.:D

Ummm, Runaway Horses is a really good solo album. I remember purchasing it about the same time of the Other Side of Mirror. I listened to it constantly for about 2 months. They had the same producer but he shined on Belinda's album. Stevie didn't have strong enough material and the production was not right for her album.

It is indeed - I've been thinking that I might buy the reissue. I played the hell out of that album back in high school!

I've talked to the guys who do a lot of these reissues (I'm helping with some right now that haven't been announced yet ;) )
Basically, record companies are happy to license out the rights to companies specialising in reissues for artists where they don't think there is much money left to be made out of them - but they're happy for someone else to do the work and produce the reissues. For someone of Stevie's stature, Warner still see they can make some money out of her, so they want to do them in-house BUT no-one ever actually gets around to it. It's a sort of inverted compliment that they won't license out Stevie.
having said that, none of us would be happy with Stevie reissues done by these companies, as they wouldn't be able to use all the demos that we would expect with proper 2CD reissues.

That's because Incubus has had three #2 albums, one #1 album, 2 Gold albums, 1 Platinum album, and 2 2x Platinum albums. All of which occurred during the Napster craze and without having the luxury of having people buy their album on vinyl and then rebuying it on cassette and then rebuying it on CD. Though they have only had one extremely successful single, they are still quite a successful band with a large fanbase and they are still relevant and releasing music. Stevie could snag one of these deals, but her and her management don't seem to want to try.

So...it's just typical record label BS. Stevie's stature is high enough that nothing gets done.

Speaking for myself, I don't want that many demos released, and certainly no more than one version of any given song. For example a Bella Donna with three versions of The Dealer would be total overkill. Bella Donna with 8-10 demos on one CD would be perfect, and they should be chosen by Stevie.
I think 2CD versions would be great, but they have to be planned carefully. 1 disc with the album, 7" & single remixes, and b-sides. 1 disc with previously unreleased material. Thankfully Stevie is very lacking in the 7"/12"/remix/b-side department, so all of that would fit on one CD with no problems, leaving the entire 2nd disc for extras.
I understand we can't have it *all*, and I would be happy with any deluxe reissues if Stevie had input in the project.

From the same label doing the Belinda Carlisle reissues comes the first 6 Bananarama albums, also 2CD & 1DVD:

Maybe they can get the license for Stevie...

We can only hope. Warner Bros. rarely licenses (if ever) Stevie/Fleetwood Mac recordings to independent labels. If there are reissues of any kind, Warner Bros. will be the ones putting them together. These independent reissue labels usually specialize in artists whose commercial viability has largely passed, focusing on limited runs. Stevie/Fleetwood Mac can still sell a few hundred thousand copies of anything they release today, so Warner Bros. is highly unlikely to give up any of those profits to a smaller label.

Warner can still sell a few hundred thousand reissues of Stevie's albums...but only if they actually reissue them!
And besides, Warner's reissues suck hard. Look at their remastered versions of Madonna's first three albums - only two bonus tracks per album, super compressed and no vinyl. The best hope we have for Warner reissues would be that they let Rhino do it, unfettered (Rhino being a Warner label), like the Rumours boxes.
And besides - didn't Stevie purchase all the rights to her solo albums when she bought out her Modern/Atco/Atlantic contract before the release of Enchanted? I know I'm shaky with the facts of that deal but I was sure that Stevie owned all of her pre-TISL solo material. Wouldn't that give her the licensing rights?

That is quite true. But they probably just want ultimate control of her catalog, saving it for a rainy day. I think her reissues are generally a low priority for them. They have many other artists who sell better. Bella Donna would have the best shot of someday getting reissued, being her bestseller.

They were pretty lackluster, given the number of remixes that were done for these albums. I'd imagine that Madonna didn't have a lot of input and probably didn't really care what they put on them. She approved the tracklisting and was done with it. Madonna doesn't strike me as a nostalgic artist.

Rhino handles most of their reissues, but it's ultimately Warner Bros.' decision to do them at all.

Stevie chose not to resign with Atlantic but didn't purchase the rights to those recordings. They are still manufactured and distributed by Atlantic. Stevie owns the rights to Buckingham Nicks with Lindsey and, I think, Keith Olsen.

Thanks, Daniel. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and of course, I e-mail Rhino about once a month asking them to take this project on.

Yes, Rhino would be the label if something is not just Warner's, but maybe there are extra snags/stakeholders with the Modern label stuff?

Rhino reminds me of Ktel back in the 1970's with their TV commercials.
Which reminds me that not much of FM and Stevie music were not on those music collection albums.
