I know I'm not the only one.

What are you hunting? What is your most recent aquisition? Do you listen, or only collect? Tell us all about it.

Today in the mail it arrived. The fifth studio album by Siouxsie & The Banshees, in all of it's glorious original UK packaging - A Kiss In The Dreamhouse. I can't wait to get home, open it, clean it to a glossy shine and give it a spin.

I love listening, but I need to update my needle and clean the dust off of some of my records, which I haven't gotten around to in a while- so I have just been collecting lately, but the intent is always (eventually) to listen. I am looking for Maria Mckee's High Dive and Life is Sweet (if these are even issued on LP, otherwise I would be thrilled to find CDs for a reasonable price), and I'm always keeping my eye out for Cher and Nicolette Larson LPs. Basically, I look for out of print albums at good prices, rather than going through amazon or something and paying $25 for a freaking CD. My most recent acquisition is Maria Mckee-- great condition for $2 at Amoeba in L.A.!

My most wanted at the moment is a folk-rock LP by The Honeydew on Argo circa 1970-71. I recently checked one obscure Welsh folk-rock LP off of my list at not too high a price, but having only heard one track from it before was a bit disappointed in it. Also keep hoping to find a rare Canadian Bonnie Dobson single.

I love shiny new reissues as well, have gotten a few this year from Sundazed and a couple from Dutch labels, all '60s stuff, and when somebody like the Green Pajamas, Paul Messis or The Kaisers releases new vinyl.

You have to realize I have always had loads of '70s-'80s vinyl around (brother was a mobile DJ) so the thrill isn't quite there for me with that I do still need one U.K. Boomtown Rats LP though, but have all the Greg Kihn, Blondie, early Queen LPs.

In the last year I must of picked up approx 750 albums from a friend up the street. And they are still coming.

Classical to rock to country to Christmas to disco to 90's dance mixes and so on.

Vinyl is the still the way to go here.

Yeah, I was very impressed- it's the only Amoeba I've been to, and it was so huge!

I'm sure most know about it, but if not, Discogs is a huge source of information for any music collector.

Another Maria fan! Good luck finding Life Is Sweet and High Dive at reasonable prices. I've looked for ages too and haven't had much luck. I love Maria McKee and You Gotta Sin To Get Saved too.

Nicolette Larson - now there's someone I haven't heard anyone else mention for a long time! I have a couple of her albums on vinyl - Nicolette and Radioland - do you have those?

Proud vinyl geek here too! The ones I'm always on the hunt for are Counting Crows Recovering the Satellites (double vinyl, always major £!), Lindsey Buckingham Out Of The Cradle (of course!) any Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris (although I have most of theirs now) Karen Carpenter (1996, recorded 1982) if it ever got released on vinyl and just loads more really!

Love records, love to talk about them.
@ KarmaK, I just recently got a SATB Tinderbox interview promo vinyl. That's been about it for SATB, although I did find a dupe of The Creatures Fury Eyes. Need it?? Cover and record are in B+ish condition.
I love the 80's so am always finding dance mix singles. I got a really nice Tina Turner "Private Dance" remix EP from Japan. Also a Police remix from Germany. Sadly the Police one skips on one song, but the Turner one is fantastic. I also got this weird little 12" that has remixes of Genius of Love, Let's Dance, She Drives Me Crazy and some other song I didn't know-but what's funny about it is that the cover sports Cyndi Lauper from the She's So Unusual cover. Like a painted pic of it-but Lauper is not on the album. I paid $6 for it at a record store in Portland, and it's in such great condition.
I am ALWAYS on ebay hunting high and low for new FM/SN 45's that I don't have. My FM 45 collection is so far past the 300 mark, I've lost count. Have been trying to make a new Excel list, but haven't had the time. Vinyl rules. From the sound, to the cover art to the all around nostalgia-I loves it!!!

Also, meant to mention, that my friend took me to see McKee. She was really awesome. We met her and she was so nice. Sadly, I just haven't gotten crazy into her. I have her December CD signed and I have a copy of You Gotta Sin To Get Saved on CD if anyone is searching for it. Tonight, I will put both on and give them another spin. Perhaps I just wasn't all the way converted like I was supposed to! lol

I may just have to cave and get Life is Sweet and High Dive from Amazon...and I agree, Maria Mckee and You Gotta Sin to Get Saved are my favorite of her solo albums (although I haven't heard Life is Sweet or High Dive yet.

I adore Nicolette's music- unfortunately, her releases were mostly covers, in the tradition of Ronstadt, and I believe she would have been just as famous if Ronstadt if she had come first. However, most of Larson's albums, although well done, were behind the trends at the time they were released. If evaluated out of the context of the late '70s and '80s, Larson's albums are nearly as good as Ronstadt's in my opinion. I have Radioland, Nicolette, and In the Nick of Time.

WOW, I would die to see McKee live...that voice is just otherworldly and seemingly effortless. If you want to get into McKee, I'd recommend starting with Lone Justice and then Maria Mckee-- it may take a few listens, but it will grow on you.

Ooohh that's a toughie. I'm most keen on her classic period - from Don't Cry Now to Simple Dreams. They're all pretty solid but right now I keepo coming back to Prisoner In Disguise, if only for Hey Mister, That's Me Up On The Jokebox and especially You Tell Me That I'm Falling Down (LOVE that one_. Then again, Hasten Down The Wind has Lose Again.... see too many to pick!]

For more recent Linda albums you should check out We Ran (1998) and her beautiful collaborative album with Emmylou Harris - Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions.

I like Linda's classic period best as well, and Prisoner in Disguise is my absolute favorite too. I had picked it up at an antique shop in a little town near my family's cottage, and the first time I listened to it was on a record player and a portable stereo set up on on a hill overlooking the lake at night, so that memory is a big reason why I don't hesitate to say Prisoner is my favorite. Heart Like a Wheel, Hasten Down the Wind, and Simple Dreams are all really close, though. I haven't really made an honest attempt at her later stuff, but I will try We Ran! I've never really been a fan of Emmylou, but I'll give Western Wall a listen as well (or is it hard to find?).

I agree, I could take or leave Shelter, but the first Lone Justice album is outstanding. It's funny you prefer "This Property" and "Drinkin,'" because those are two I often skip:sorry:. But it is a wonderful album, for sure! My favorites are "Am I the Only One" and "Nobody's Child." I'd also highly recommend Maria McKee: Live at the BBC.

I'm really getting into vinyl lately. Not technically for the first time but beyond buying a used copy of Rumours at least a decade ago I've never bought vinyl until now. I did have the coolest giant stereo growing up that was a turntable/ 5 disc CD changer/ dual cassette player deal but I just borrowed my parents vinyl. Now I'm borrowing not only their vinyl but their record player too. They weren't using it but my mom especially was so amazingly protective of her vinyl (and repeatedly has begged me to take care of it!) so many of the albums I have from her are in excellent condition.

I'm listening to Christine's self titled solo album right now. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I got it out of a 94 cent "satisfaction not guaranteed" pile and having my first listen right now. Case is a mess but the LP itself looks and so far sounds to be in good shape. There's a questionable spot on the b side that I haven't gotten to yet but I'm poor so it was a great deal for me.

I've recently bought- Stevie's Wild Heart, FM self titled, Mirage, Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark, The Carpenter's Now and Then, the Yentl soundtrack, Caberet soundtrack (my favorite movie of all times), and hmm might be forgetting a few. Oh and scored a 70s female Israeli singer named Ilanit's album (all in Hebrew. I have a big Israeli cd collection too...).

Not at all impressive I know though the LPs from my parents likely have some great gems (heavy on country- Loretta Lynn, Dolly, Johnny Cash, Elvis, etc). But I am really really enjoying listening to vinyl and collecting it. I'm mostly into vinyl for the listening pleasure and the experience of it (I really live the sound and I think Fleetwood Mac in particular truly does sound so much better on vinyl and the copy of Rumours I picked up so long ago is in really great condition so its my favorite of all) but I'm absolutely collecting Fleetwood Mac. I want all the LPs produced from all eras and all the solo albums that are on vinyl.

So I hope you guys don't mind but I have a few newbie questions.

How is pricing determined? As in how do I know if I'm getting ripped off? I have at least a dozen record shops I've been exploring within about a half hour or so from me so I'm seeing a wide range of prices for things. I think I may have overpaid on some of my Mac but then the album covers look better than the Mirage album I got for half the price of the there but Mirage plays just as well and possibly better so... I'm just wondering. I mean I've also frequented these shops for used CDs and know certain stores have ridiculous new and used CD prices in particular if an artist is popular. So if I'm say looking for more Mac and Stevie and Lindsey what kind of price range sounds right?

Also, was Stevie's Trouble in Shangri-La released on vinyl at any point?

What do you use to clean your records? What would you recommend and how often do you clean them?

Have you had good experience buying off eBay? I'm dying to get my hands on Buckingham Nicks and while I might call a few especially good shops that I have seen harder to find Mac stuff at to see if they have a copy I've seen endless options on eBay so I'm guessing that's my best bet? Unless there's some even better record selling website around? Prices were wildly variable on eBay too. What would you pay for a good copy of BN? I'm definitely willing to pay more for all FM stuff but almost would want two copies then because I'm afraid to actually play say the $45 reissues I've seen of Rumours!

I'm so so new to actually buying vinyl so I hope you don't mind the questions. I'm falling in love with music in general all over again and its just so much fun to go spend hours in a record shop!

Ebay is buyer beware land for vinyl. I always check to see if they sell records often and the feedback they get, but even then might buy if i want something badly enough. I have gotten burned on Ebay a few times but also had some very nice surprises. I have also bought vinyl through Gemm and Musicstack sites. Of course the best deal is a dollar bin in a shop... I got John Stewart's Bombs Away LP for a dollar in very clean shape (with lots of contributions from Mr. Buckingham and a little Stevie as well on it), and most of the singles I didn't have from when they originally came out have been discount bin type finds (so few shops still want to be bothered and price all singles at some standard price). Fireflies with photo sleeve for $1.50 at a Half Price Books!

The main thing with buying vinyl by mail is to always tell them to put the vinyl outside the sleeve, unless it's a new or sealed copy anyway. It's amazing what some sliding around inside paper sleeves can do damage-wise. And that they should wrap the whole thing in plastic, saran wrap if need be, or you can get water-damage, or again the sliding around. Don't feel bad telling them, if they already know that they will not be rude about it but understand.

I have no idea about what prices should be, it's what you can find something for and get it at for anybody. Other than the original Buckingham-Nicks LP I don't think any are in very short supply, and even that one isn't all that scarce being on a big label like Polydor. Always see if the inserts are there that are supposed to be there. I know there is a lyric sheet insert with the original 1975 LP and a foldout photo montage and lyrics with Rumours. Mirage and Belladonna's inner sleeves have lyrics/photos on as do Walter Egan's first two LPs with Buckingham and Nicks appearing.

I've never really been a fan of Emmylou, but I'll give Western Wall a listen as well (or is it hard to find?).

See, I love Emmy! Western Wall is superb, a proper duets album. It was released in 1999, no vinyl release, but widely avaiable on cd. Not hard to find at all.

So I hope you guys don't mind but I have a few newbie questions.

How is pricing determined? As in how do I know if I'm getting ripped off? So if I'm say looking for more Mac and Stevie and Lindsey what kind of price range sounds right?

Honestly - this is a personal judgment call. If the price feel good, go for it. Research ebay prices as well - they tend to be high, but will give you a good idea of what stuff should cost, on average. Remember that many factors affect price - scratches, gloss, sleeve condition, surface marks, pops, skips, edge-wear, absence of original inserts, etc...

Also, was Stevie's Trouble in Shangri-La released on vinyl at any point?

No. ):

What do you use to clean your records? What would you recommend and how often do you clean them?

For wet cleaning, which I only do when the record is dirty or smudged, I use a brush that looks like Corduroy fabric, sold at most record stores. The solution I use is custom-made at the store I shop at, but there are commercial cleaning solvents out there. I also use a carbon-fiber brush for dry cleaning, before every single play. I also use a carbon-fiber needle brush to clean the stylus before every play.

Have you had good experience buying off eBay?

I've been buying records on eBay since 1999. I've had hundreds of great experiences, where I got exactly what I wanted for the right price. All I can say is buying from eBay requires research. Look at many copies, read the seller notes, get a feel for the grading system ( Mint-, VG+, etc.) and know what they mean.

Be wary of the mob-mentality when it comes to pricing. I see this too often - one person overprices an item, and then all the other sellers overprice it as well. If you wanted a particular record - let's say, Mirage, and all the copies were $35 or higher, move on and cross Mirage off your list for now. Give it 6 months and the prices will change. Some items are worth a lot of course, but most aren't worth the prices being asked.

I often spend weeks looking at what I want before buying it, trying to find the exact copy I want for the best price possible. I'm ok paying more when it's deserved, but the most expensive price doesn't mean it's any better than the cheap ones, which is why you need to be familiar with sellers and grades and be sure to read their descriptions.

Prepare to be disappointed - it happens sometimes.

I wouldn't pay more than $15-25 dollar for a minty copy of BN.

No matter what a record costs, PLAY IT! That $45 dollar copy of Rumours is supposed to sound great, so make sure it does!

Lastly, even sealed records almost never sound good without a proper cleaning first. Older sealed albums are the worst - I've recenly opened a sealed Mirage that I've had for about 10 years and it was a totally filthy record. You may wonder how they get dirty when they are sealed - it's residue from the pressing machines.

How do you recommend cleaning them? I'm looking for a cheap/easy way, because I've got a LOT of records that need cleaning.

What I've been doing is wet-cleaning each one before I play it, using a kit similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/Crosley-167805-Record-Cleaning-Kit/dp/B001ASADNU

I put the record on the turntable, and spin it with my finger, pressing lightly on the grooves with the brush, rocking it back and forth gently. My turntable doesn't spin unless it's playing, so that's why I spin the table with my finger, on the lable of the record.

That will remove grime, fingerprints, oil and dried-on-yuck. After that, I use this item before every play to keep the record free of dust:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/zQO4iPJYLwE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

They go back into the sleeve cleaned, so the next time I want to play them I only use the carbon fiber brush.

Some record stores have these devices, and will clean a large quantity of albums for a fee; it's a machine I certainly can't afford, but if I wanted to clean hundreds of albums I might consider it.

http://www.soundstagedirect.com/vpi-industries-16.5-record-cleaning-machine-with-mofi-vinyl-accessories.shtml?gclid=CL3LjuC0krgCFdFDMgode2oA7g

Of course, then there's this technique, which looks crazy but is incredibly effective for filthy albums.

On the day of the Jones Beach FM show I had to pickup another batch of vinyl from my friend,That batch has some country artists like Conway Twitty,Hank Snow and those country collections then some Jim Croce ,Bobby Vinton To some 12 inch dance singles to holiday music collections.

I have him keeping an eye open for Stevie and FM records that come his way for me.

I'm glad to see some artists release their tunes on vinyl.

Maybe FM should release their EP on vinyl.

With much excitement to hear this incredible album in glorious analog sound quality, I opened it up....only to discover that I had two copies of Side 1 and 2.

No Side 3 or 4. And I can't return it!

I have 3rd on double LP - and it's very nice. The gatefold photo really fits the music.

Most from the 1980's and 1990's.

Now I probably can get back into DJing again like I used to do in the 1980's and dance my fat a$$ off.

I started collecting vinyl back in 2011, and so far own some Kate Bush albums and a couple of singles and 12"'s of hers, some Carpenters LPs, all of the Buckingham Nicks FM albums, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells album and two Judy Garland records. Been wanting to get some Blondie albums as well as extend my father's Siouxse & The Banshees albums (he only has the first, second and fourth albums on vinyl).

Newest acquisition! Since release I've only had the iTunes version - hearing this amazing album on vinyl is surely going to be great. Tracey's voice could soothe rabid sharks.

Those Banshees LPs are not cheap, like, ever.

I've got A Kiss In The Dreamhouse, Tinderbox and The Rapture on vinyl, but that's it for Banshee albums. I've been meaning to get the others, but they're always so damned expensive. I've been emailing Rhino Records begging them about Banshee reissues - if I'm going to pay $50 bucks for an LP. I'd prefer it be NEW.

^^Here, here!^^ SATB records are very expensive. Better off finding them in record stores off the beaten path that prolly don't even KNOW they have SATB stuff in stock! Even I don't have all the LP's anymore and replacing them is SO expensive. I've been trying to cut down on reg LP's and update my CD, 45 & 12" single collection.
Blondie as well is hit and miss. Later DH stuff can be found at a decent price still. I'll see if I have anything SATB or Blondie dupe. Might only be like 1 or 2 small things.

I know! I have The Scream, Join Hands and Juju; my father happened to have The Scream and Juju already after buying them when they first came out, and they're still in pretty good shape. I usually buy my vinyl from MusicStack, as I usually get quality service from the sellers there and everything I buy from there is in near perfect condition. Looking for Kaleidoscope has been hell, if I want it in at least decent condition, it'll cost me at least £12-20!

Coming on 180g vinyl: Natalie Merchant's Motherland

Natalie Merchant Motherland on Limited Edition 180g Import LP

By 1992, 10,000 Maniacs had been with the Elektra family for some eight years, and had recorded four highly successful albums for the label (preceded by two indie releases). Vocalist/songwriter Natalie Merchant, who had co-founded the band when she was 17, was about to turn 30, and she decided the time had come to set off on her own. Although the band enjoyed their greatest sales success with 1993’s triple-platinum MTV Unplugged, Merchant had already announced she was leaving the group.

Two years later, Merchant re-emerged with her acclaimed solo debut. Tigerlily was an artistic triumph and a commercial smash, surpassing 10,000 Maniacs on the sales front and certified 5-times platinum. The album, whose first single was “Carnival,” was entirely written and produced by Merchant, a clear break from her band identity that found one of modern music’s most distinctive voices expressing a need to “project further,” as she said at the time.

Tigerlily was followed in 1998 by Ophelia, which coincided with her participation in the second Lilith Fair tour. She released a live album in 1999, and concluded her Elektra contract in 2001 with her third solo album Motherland. Co-produced with T-Bone Burnett and featuring the rhythm section of Graham Maby (Joe Jackson) and Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos) along with a guest appearance by Mavis Staples, the atmospheric 12-song set was completed two days before the 9/11 attacks and is dedicated to the victims.

Natalie Merchant Motherland Track Listing:

1. The House Is On Fire
2. Motherland
3. Saint Judas
4. Put The Law On You
5. Build A Levee
6. Golden Boy
7. The Ballad Of Henry Darger
8. The Worst Thing
9. Tell Yourself
10. Just Can't Last
11. Not In This Life
12. I'm Not Gonna Beg

Which Carpenters albums do you have? I love them and have everything they've put out on CD and have picked up some on vinyl too. I'd love to have them all on both formats. On vinyl I have Ticket To Ride, Close To You, Now and Then, Horizon, Singles 69-73, Voice Of The Heart.

Of course the Holy Grail is a vinyl copy of Offering (the first album before it was re-issued as Ticket To Ride) - good luck!

Not sure I ought to share this but we had Offering and other early Carpenters records as kids and they all got trashed. It could have been a discarded radio station promo, we had a lot of them, but I know it was Offering unfortunately because I was shocked later to find out it was rare. :(

I would have liked to have it now, and not to sell. Karen Carpenter's voice always makes me go all misty. I do remember thinking they were a married couple from the old LP covers though!

Some records were Canadian editions that were different, different photos or different track orders, sometimes different takes. I just found out a Canadian Beatles single is valuable, but we played the crap out of it even if it were still kicking around. It's the things like Grandpa Jones' Yodelling favorites which survived in pristine condition wouldn't you know!

Yeah, the marketing of the Carpenters was absolutely ridiculous. A&M have since said that they screwed it up. Richard has particular distaste for the hideous Close To You cover. On rocks in the rain, in formal evening wear, and Karen's dress is falling down!

If it was a discarded radio station promo then sorry to say that it may be worth even more :( lol

Oh man, I don't recall what year we met her. Maybe 2007?? Was at a bar/restaurant where they had the last Bella Donna Ball in SF, so double win. She had her little dogs with her, and they were making a fuss in the back. The place was so small you could hear them, and she kept apologizing about it. She gave a great set-and was VERY gracious after the show, seemingly at a loss for anyone wishing to meet her, get autograph or have a picture taken with her. I was totally impressed. We also mentioned our love for Stevie, and Maria went on about how awesome SN is!! As a last SN/FM tie in, the guy that opened for her is part of Cake, CVB (they did their own version of Tusk) & Cracker. Can't recall his name, but he was one cool dude too! Quite the musician!! And my mistake, getting my foods all mixed up. lol Session player that opened is in CVB & Cracker (not Cake) and I think I am right about his role in both bands, but that's a sordid mixed up family CVB, so I could also be wrong. Victor Krummenacher, and he was promoting The Cock Crows At Sunrise...which came out in 2007, so I do believe that was when I met Maria. OK, so it was bothering me, so I had to find out and share w/ all of you. lmao.

Any other fans here of 10,000 Maniacs or Natalie Merchant?I love Natalie Merchant too esp. the Ophelia lp/cd , I'd say the first 3 are really great but after that it kind of trailed off someplace different. She has other priorities. She is married and has a little girl so having hit records and LP's I guess isn't her focus anymore. It's a bummer because I think she could've been more successful. I do have the 'Sleep' cd but not listened to it yet. I like it when she writes her own songs. I also liked her with the Maniac's too. Her Ophelia cd will always be awesome though. To me, her 10,000 Manaics material is very much like her solo material, as she was typically the primary songwriter for the band. I would check out Our Time In Eden, if you're looking for an intro to 10,000 Maniacs material. it was the last album they made with Natalie.

I love Natalie Merchant too esp. the Ophelia lp/cd , I'd say the first 3 are really great but after that it kind of trailed off someplace different. She has other priorities. I might need this...

http://www.rhinorecords.com/article/eagles-studio-albums-vinyl-box-set-for-release-on-october-29

The Eagles' original Asylum Records studio albums, including each of the chart-topping albums the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers released between 1972 and 1979, will be released on 180-gram vinyl in THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1972-1979, a limited-edition, six-LP boxed set available October 29.

THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1972-1979 includes each of the six Eagles albums that defined an era. Each LP features replicas of the original album packaging with two special artwork upgrades - the sleeve of the debut album, EAGLES, will finally be released as the band originally intended, with no glue flaps, so the cover folds out into a poster, as described in this year's acclaimed documentary History of the Eagles. HOTEL CALIFORNIA will include a replica of the poster from the original issue with band photos by Norman Seeff in full color, for the first time. THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1972-1979 is limited to 5,000 copies and comes housed in an individually numbered slipcase with a gold foil stamp of the band's logo.

THE STUDIO ALBUMS kicks off with the band's eponymous 1972 debut, the first of two Eagles albums produced by Glyn Johns. The disc spawned the hits "Witchy Woman," "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and is followed by the band's second album, DESPERADO, which features the iconic title track and "Tequila Sunrise."

Remembered for the hits "Already Gone" and "Best Of My Love," which was the band's first No. 1 single, 1974's ON THE BORDER follows. That album was the precursor to the Eagles' first No. 1 album, 1975's Grammy®-winning ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, featuring the smash hits "Take It To The Limit," the title track, and "Lyin' Eyes."

Additionally, THE STUDIO ALBUMS includes 1976's HOTEL CALIFORNIA, the album that immortalized the band with the unforgettable title song as well as the hits "Life In The Fast Lane" and "New Kid In Town." HOTEL CALIFORNIA was followed up in 1979 by the band's third consecutive No. 1, THE LONG RUN, yet another multi-platinum effort made famous for the title track, plus "I Can't Tell You Why" and the No. 1 hit "Heartache Tonight."

With lineups that included Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Don Felder, Timothy B. Schmit, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, and Don Felder, the Eagles are one of the most successful bands in history, having sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earning five No. 1 U.S. singles and six GRAMMY® Awards. The band's EAGLES - THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975 album is the best-selling record of all time, with more than 29 million copies sold.

I have been on the hunt for Fleetwood Mac's 7" singles: Over My Head/I'm So Afraid, Say You Love Me/Monday Morning, and Love In Store/Can't Go Back. I've tried Amazon, GEMM, eBay, and Discogs without any luck  I'm mostly looking for the picture sleeves.
Anyone know of some other online stores? Or if those singles even come with the picture sleeves?

I think it's just going to take time, but eventually these things will turn up on eBay.

I'm planning on collecting the Tango 12" singles, but haven't started yet.

Very true, those are the last three I need. I have all the BN era 7" singles (US releases only).

You're interested in the Tango 12" singles? I saw some NM or M- copies of Family Man on Discogs the other day.
Here's the link, if you're interested: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=1318802&ev=rb

Remember those days of Crazy Eddie if you lived in NYC and the tri-state area.

You can buy FM Mirage for $5.99.

Yesterday my sister and my brother in-law gave me their album collection since they have everything on CD's and their Ipods.

A plastic box full with about 50 plus albums.

They like the same music that I like from the 70's and 1980's.

They surprised me with Stevie's Belladonna album and FM Mirage album which are in mint condition as the rest of the albums are in.

The others are.

Huey Lewis and the news
Grateful Dead .still sealed
Led Zep.
Quarterflash another underrated band
Dan Fogelberg
Bee Gees
Black Sabbath
Ozzy Osbourne
Cars
Motels
Jackson Browne
John Denver Christmas
Linda Ronstadt
Rod Stewart
Cat Stevens
Elvis Presley Christmas
Reader Digest and Time Life Christmas collections
Ted Nugent
J Giels Band
K C Sunshine Band

and others.

I have some earlier Fat Albert stuff and it's pretty cool. I remember reading someplace about who all actually made the recordings and wrote the songs and they had genuine cred! It looks like maybe they discoed it up for that later LP though, I'd be a bit nervous about that.

The Banana Splits LP has some cool r&b type stuff with Barry White involved. I used to lust over that vintage LP until they put out a more affordable CD collection with lots of extras (same with the original Josie & The Pussycats LP). Oh yeah, and the Groovie Goolies and Catanooga Cats LPs are other five stars out of fivers if you're into the quality saturday morning bubblegum pop beloved of readers of Scram. Happiness is finding a new rare LP with cartoons on the sleeve?

All those old Paramount 78s are pretty rare in decent condition. I've only ever seen one in person. Black Patti discs are even rarer.

Tommy Johnson is the guy who supposedly sold his soul at the crossroads, he was the idol of Robert Johnson who is often misidentified as the origin of that story. If you've seen O Brother Where Art Thou, that is Tommy they pick up with his guitar and take into the recording shack.

Since this is related to records.I just want to make note that I just got bad news that my late neighbors wife just passed away from having breast cancer. She was in her late 60's.

They ran a small record shop in town back in the mid 1970's to 1980's and it was that shop I discovered Fleetwood Mac and later Stevie's solo work. And also other artists too.

I got most of my record collection from their shop.

RIP Tony and Diane P.

^Sorry to hear that. Long live the small record shop and those that ran them. I didn't start finding record shops other than major chains until my 20's, but oh how strong the love is!!

Yes I agree. What killed my neighbors record shop in the early 1980's was competition from big discount stores like Kmart,Sears,Caldor's Bradlees, Kings dept stores and another record store moved in town called Merle's Record Rack which put the final nail in the coffin.

At that time there was no internet and Walmart,Target and those electronics box stores like Best Buy and PC Richards plus others.

Now my vinyl sources are the fleamarket and my friend down the street.

I find it sort of sad that I can go to Amazon UK, and purchase vinyl records imported from the U.S., and with shipping, they are cheaper than the very same items on Amazon US.

Totally makes no sense at all.

Did anyone go to a Black Friday Record Store Day event? The only thing I wanted was the Lady Gaga 'Applause' remixes picture disc, but I wasn't lucky.

A friend of mine really wanted the new live Grateful Dead thing on vinyl but neither of us could get one on the big day. The guy behind 'discovering' it lives here though, maybe that was why! I hate how much I want to hear this now, but I loved the roots music period of the Grateful Dead (Workingman's Dead and American Beauty). Thank you for that link!!!!

I think Rumours era Mac fans would really dig them from that era as well! I'm no Deadhead but that material and their earliest most accessible stuff is great music by very unique and talented guys.

Mostly though the limited edition aspect annoys me... although often it's small companies making something out of their being only able to finance more limited runs anyway.

http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/5855151/justin-timberlakes-2020-2013s-best-selling-album-blurred-lines-top-song

For the sixth straight year, more vinyl albums were sold than in any other year since SoundScan launched in 1991. In 2013, 6.1 million vinyl LPs were sold -- up 33% compared to 2012's haul of 4.55 million. 64% of all vinyl albums sold in 2012 were purchased at an independent music store (3% less than compared to indie stores' share in 2012). Notably -- and not surprisingly -- 75% of all vinyl albums sold in 2013 were rock albums.

The top selling vinyl album of 2013 was Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories," having sold 49,000 last year. Vampire Weekend's "Modern Vampires of the City" was in second place with 34,000. (A year ago, the top selling vinyl album was Jack White's "Blunderbuss" with 34,000 LPs sold.)
