I'm glad that FM picked up Standback as a live tune.
I wish for a cleaner dressingroom Wildheart demo vid will show up somewhere.

I picked it up because I had heard Stand Back on radio and thought it sounded more interesting than the stuff on BD, which had turned me off Stevie two years earlier. While IMHO really uneven in quality overall, the Wild Heart album gave me Nightbird and BATB, still two of my all-time faves.

Ultimate Classic Rock 30 Years Ago: Stevie Nicks Releases ‘The Wild Heart’
by Nick DeRiso June 10, 2013 2:49 PM
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/stevie-nicks-the-wild-heart/
Released June 10, 1983, Stevie Nicks’ ‘The Wild Heart’ featured an appropriately named song: ‘Nothing Ever Changes.’ On her second solo album, the Fleetwood Mac chanteuse played to her strengths — and, in keeping with her status as one of the ’80s biggest stars, she sold millions.
The songs, as on her 1981 solo debut ‘Bella Donna,’ were largely straight-forward and pop chart-friendly, without the quirky mannerisms that often surrounded her work with Fleetwood Mac. So, we have a reference to that familiar white-winged dove from ‘Edge of Seventeen,’ this time on the Top 40 hit ‘Nightbird’; and a song that will remind diehards of her 1982 Mac hit ‘Gypsy’ in ‘Sable on Blond.’ She once again asks a series of famous friends over to contribute, too — from Tom Petty (‘I Will Run to You’) and Mick Fleetwood (‘Sable’), from the Eagles’ Don Felder (‘Nothing Ever Changes’) to David Foster (‘Nightbird’).
But ‘The Wild Heart’ was then, and is now, defined by its biggest hit — and it biggest risk: Her No. 5 hit ‘Stand Back,’ with its pulsing, stunningly disco-fied cadence, additional guitar work from Toto’s Steve Lukather and uncredited appearance (both as impetus and as sideman) from Prince, would eventually chart for a total of 19 weeks, and sat in the Top 10 for six of them. The song even provides a kind of road map for Nicks’ lyrics, which were becoming ever more oblique and difficult to interpret. “No one knows how I feel, what I say,” Nicks sings on ‘Stand Back,’ “unless you read between my lines.” That’s good advice when sorting through stanzas like this one: “There is a gate; it can be guarded. Well, it is not heaven, and it has a garden. So, to the red rose goes the passion.”
‘Stand Back’ was so inventive, and so monolithic, that it made all of that witchy-woman mysticism — and even the underrated “If Anyone Falls,” a No. 14 hit that explores the billowing emotions surrounding an unrequited love — sound positively pedestrian. Of course, that’s thanks in part to a groove that Nicks said was inspired by Prince’s ‘Little Red Corvette,’ but it’s also powered along by one of her most fearless vocals. In keeping, ‘Stand Back’ would become a staple of Nicks’ solo concerts; it’s been part and parcel of Fleetwood Mac’s setlists since 1987, as well. By then, ‘The Wild Heart’ — which went to No. 5 on the Billboard charts in the summer of 1983 — was well on its way to double-platinum status.

I'm pretty sure this was the first Stevie album I bought. I know I had a couple of the BellaDonna singles, but I can't remember when I got the album. Anyway, this totally reminds me of my "wonder years." I would just lie on the bed staring at the front and back cover and the liner notes, only getting up to turn the record over (how archaic, LOL). I was really into MTV, Solid Gold, American Top 40 with Casey Kasem, and Billboard magazine. I was 14 when this album was released, which is really a special time of life, and I'm so happy in coincided with the period when Stevie was at her zenith as pop culture's It Girl.

I had my friend do this pic montage video for me so that I could play it at this year's NOTS but, it didn't quite fit into my set. But here it is now, in celebration of this classic album. "Nothing Ever Changes" has always been a favorite of mine. Her voice soars!!!!

I'm glad they are rerunning the classic Casey Kasem 1970's and 1980's shows on the radio.I've been taping them for about the last 5 plus years or so.
I will be putting a collection of Stevie/FM hits together as they peak on the hot 100 chart.
To bad that MTV went to the trashcan.

I only get the reruns from the 70s. I wish they would start doing the 80s too.

The Wild Heart is still #2 for me. But it's in dire need of remastering.

Thank Daniel for that note.Yes I agree with the WildHeart being number 2 on my Stevie faves list.

I love this album.....either Wild Heart or TISL is my favorite Stevie solo album, I can never decide which.
The first side of the Wild Heart LP is just beautiful....flows so well. And Sable On Blonde is an underappreciated gem....
I'm paraphrasing, but Stevie once said "On the Wild Heart tour, everyone was either falling in love, falling out of love, getting married, getting divorced..." How appropriate for an album like the emotional, romantic Wild Heart.

The same goes for NightBird.

Thank you for this info. I will check out some of those 80s stations. I heard the one where "Dreams" hit Number 1. They made a big deal of the fact that a band had to wait 10 years after forming before getting their first Number 1 hit.

Shoot, I got my info from Allmusic...lol. I agree, a remaster with demos (All the Beautiful Worlds, please!!) would be wonderful, but it's probably never going to happen :(. Anyways, I have always said before that Bella Donna is my favorite Stevie album and The Wild Heart is a close second, but I'm really not sure any more. The first four tracks on The Wild Heart are the songs I always turn to if I'm in a bad mood, so The Wild Heart is very powerful for me. If Anyone Falls is just so darn catchy, and I am a shameless Gate and Garden fan as well. I love when synthesizers are used tastefully, as they are in If Anyone Falls and Stand Back, because the energy level just skyrockets. Nightbird is a beautiful sister song to Edge of Seventeen, and I love Lori's solo. Stand Back has become a classic, and still works well live (obviously). I enjoy I Will Run to You at least as much as Stop Draggin' My Heart around. The vocal on Nothing Ever Changes is really playful and dynamic, and it's just a rocking song. For me, the two weakest songs are last. I actually really like most of the lyrics and the melody to Sable on Blond, but I don't like all the voices (the "ooh"s) at the beginning, and I don't really understand the premise behind "sable on blond"--seems like too obscure of a reference to be used as the title. Beauty and the Beast seems overwrought to me, and I always skip it.
