Hi guys

Does anyone know if this is happening? It's only on US itunes which I find pretty annoying/unfair! Or does anyone know how I can get US itunes purchases from the UK?

Thanks.

Frustrating isn't it?! I know that some people from outside the US have bought an iTunes giftcard and then signed up for a US iTunes account. You are then able to purchase the documentary using the gift card as payment. This will be my back up plan. I'm going to hold out a little longer and hope that we get a UK release. To be honest, I don't really understand why it's not available on iTunes the world over. I'd understand more if it was a physical dvd release perhaps, but a download.....can't be that hard to make it available to all

Another example of Stevie/record label etc ignoring other fans. Should be used to it I suppose but yes, it's INCREDIBLY frustrating!

Would it be worthwhile tweeting Dave about it? I know he's responded to questions about the documentary before, but I don't know if it's out of his hands now that they've found a distributor...

I wondered about this. I'm not on Twitter though so can't do that. Anyoen else. feel free though! I thought it would get a UK release actually, since Dave is involved.

I wouldn't be overly concerned, you're not missing anything. It's truly an atrocious documentary and you'll just end up despising Stevie after viewing it. Best avoided.

I don't think the documentary offers any surprises regarding Stevie's personality. It portrays her as warm, funny, and quite arrogant. None of this is exactly news to Stevie fandom.

The documentary is flawed but charming, and definitely worth seeing to make up your own mind about. :) As said, getting a US iTunes account and gift card seems to be the way to go if you're up for the hassle. But the cynical side of me thinks that someone just forgot to flick a switch somewhere, so to speak, and it should hit UK iTunes as soon as the matter is brought to the right person's attention.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. It's not like it's a physical release which might involve getting a separate UK distributor, so I think it'll be available at some point over here.
I tweeted Dave about it yesterday, but I haven't heard anything back, so who knows?

Funnily enough Dex, I was surprised... We must be at odds with one another because none of Stevie's behaviour struck me as being warm or amusing - in fact, her utterly charmless arrogance, occasional rudeness and extreme obtuseness just left me cold. I knew she was flawed as as person, but after seeing this documentary, I would go as far to say that I actually detest the woman. She is simply awful in every sense, to the point of churning my stomach.

Having said that, I agree with you that one must make up their own mind about these things. It would seem that I'm in the minority regarding my opinion of the film, but I would suggest that if you wish to remain a fan of Stevie's, approach this latest outing with absolute caution.

Yeah, I always appreciate someone who's willing to throw a bit of a wrench into the general loveydovey fanworks, but honestly none of that makes any sense to me. I was actually surprised at how much I kind of wanted to hang out with her. I wasn't expecting her to seem nearly as fun. And for me, actually, the arrogance was more apparent in the choices she made as a co-director than in the actual footage of her (starting the film with a montage of people talking about how lifechanging Stevie is and how much they love her, for example). Yes, she was shown taking herself too seriously, and in my view overstated the "importance" of her work, but she's always done those things. I honestly can't really think of anything else to cringe over.

Oh that. I hated it. It reminds me of Michael Jackson. If he produced a 90 minute documentary on his work, you can bet that at least 40 minutes of it would be footage of fans saying how wonderful he was or scenes of them swooning and screaming in the audience during a performance. Made me want to . . . anesthetize him. It drove me crazy and was self-indulgent to say the least, so it was unfortunate that IYD went that route.

Generally I agree with you. She acted like herself, to me. There were no surprises. If you loved her before, I think you'll love her. If you hated her, there's plenty here to exacerbate that dislike in IYD.

What I enjoy is her acerbic wit. I loved the Crystal Visions commentary and I was hoping for more of the same self-aware, sharp and funny observations here. Maybe I didn't get as many of those as I expected. But I liked seeing her home, the view from her Hawaii bedroom, the places where she feels she thrives. And, of course, I liked the photographs from her past. It's nice to add those to the collection.

I'm not really into the "make my dog talk" moments, but the FWIW insight was great. I mean, we interpreted the song here, but I loved hearing her words. How he told her that even if he came to be with her after the tour, that's not what she really wanted. I felt that was real and even if this is not something I want to rewatch many times, it's something I certainly want in my collection.

You certainly have a point there. Whilst the album is better than I expected from that stage of her career, it was not a great work of art, despite what she might have you believe. To dissect and discuss these songs to the extent that she did truly diminished them for me. Consequently, I do not wish to hear this album again.

Perhaps I was on the cusp of already thoroughly disliking the woman? That must be it...

All I can say is that everything about this film annoyed me, particularly the tone of Stevie's speaking voice - so flat and monotone, to the point of sounding completely disinterested in anyone, but herself.

Ok but the point is that fans outside the US should be able to make that decision for themselves and actually see the thing!

Yes I agree. I live in Australia and had to access Itunes in the USA to purchase the documentary because I was intrigued. For me, it was a waste of time. For you, it may be otherwise.

Does anyone know if it's available to watch in the UK? I've searched torrent sites but surprisingly no one's uploaded it
