I do not have a M&G. In fact I JUST got my tickets, and we have Row 11 Lindsey side, which is where I have been twice before. Not complaining! But can't seem to do better. Sunday I saw Row 1 Lindsey side, but by the wall, and I also didn't know if i was coming alone so i had to let those go. I've learned now what to do:)

I will be wearing my black SYW Tour shirt, and I'll be with Janet who used to moderate here years ago, some of you old skool Ledgies may remember her. We are both quite tall, so if you see a tall blonde and tall redhead, please come say hello!!! Would love to join up. How will I know who is who in the Fire & ice longe thing? LOL

Yes, Abs, price do drop as showtime approaches. The lowers on Lindsey's side in section 9 are now below cost, i.e between $94 & $189. I'm waiting to see if the tix in the first 4 rows of sections A & B get to that level before 6PM, which is when we would have to leave for the show.

True. But I thought she was getting pretty into it in the vids I saw, with the 'Give me just a chance's and the 'was I such a fool's.

I am guessing it was skipped rather than dropped. I was there tonight and it was obvious that Stevie's voice wasn't 100%. Some notes that she went for when I saw her at MSG on the 8th, she made simpler tonight. She struggled through some songs and ultimately just sounded like her voice was a bit tired. But otherwise, GREAT SHOW!!!! LOVED IT! more in-depth review tomorrow

but..... Great moment was before last encore when Lindsey took a large buckingham nicks vinyl case from a fan and signed it and then made stevie signed it. that was great

Just got in from the show...my third this tour. Excellent as always, very high energy. Stevie is suffering from a cold or something. Her voice was noticeably deeper/raspy and she didn't go for the higher notes on some of the songs (Without You, for example, she yielded to Lindsey for some of the notes). Silver Springs was dropped for that reason -- she mouthed "I just can't" to a fan who yelled for the song when Lindsey began talking about Say Goodbye. Best moment of the night -- someone gave them a vinyl copy of Buckingham Nicks when they came out for the second encore. They held it up, laughed about it, and then both signed it and handed it back to the fan. I hope someone got pics of this.

Just got home from the show!

This is my 4th time seeing The Mac (3 times in '09), first time for this tour. So, I was thrilled and excited that "Silver Springs" was on the set list because it's probably one of my top favorites.

This was the only time I was going to get to see the 2013 Tour, they've been keeping the song in the show and I made the comment to a friend of mine "Watch, it'll get dropped at the show I go to"...IT GOT DROPPED!!

I could tell Stevie wasn't 100% vocally, but nonetheless she was still great and seemed 100% more into the show than when I saw Unleashed. After "Don't Stop" and just Lindsey & Stevie came my heart sank because I knew no "Silver Springs". I was so disappointed, but was glad I was able to see them again.

I thought it was awesome that they signed the "Buckingham Nicks" album!

I took some pics, will go through them and hopefully will post some tomorrow :)

Ps...I wore my Stevie owl shirt from the "In Your Dreams" Tour and I got sooooo many compliments from people at the show! That made my night haha.

Totally loved the show! Yes, Stevie was under the weather and her voice wasn't at it's peak, but still, she rocked it out. Lindsay was PHENOMENAL throughout the show and Mick and John were, of course, the best rhythm section on earth. Loved that Sharonna and Lori were there, again. I think my favorite song of the night was Sara - it was done so beautifully, and I felt that they almost hit a 'silver springs' type of vibe with it. Speaking of SS, of course, i was utterly disappointed by the lack of, but I kind of figured it had something to do with her voice, as confirmed in some of the earlier posts.
Go Your Own Way was totally awesome, as was The Chain, Gold Dust Woman & Never Going Back Again...
The Buckingham Nicks signing made me bitterly jealous :) But I loved it! And I loved how The two of them were so happy - lots of laughing and chatter. And each time they came out together it was like 'rock's reigning power couple together again' or something...cracked me up! I forget the song ... maybe it was GYOW? When they did the circles around the stage together? I freaking loved that!! And I quite enjoyed the ice bar :blob1:

Someone asked me to transcribe the Without You intro, so I figured I might as well post it up here in case anyone else was having trouble deciphering it. Here it is in all of it's rambling glory.

This next song was written - well, we have a little disagreement on when it was written. I think it was a poem that was written in probably 1970 before we moved to Los Angelos in San Francisco. Lindsey thinks it was written in 1974 right after our Buckingham Nicks album came out and was dumped, and we were like, completely like.. we didn't know what to do. So we started another Buckingham Nicks album. So, together, we both think that this was the first song that we probably were making for the next Buckingham Nicks album. Anyway, this is the nicest... (to Lindsey) Are you there, Lindsey? I'm not seeing you. Lindsey? Aha! There you are. You were hiding from me! (to audience) Anyway, so Lindsey and I both agree that this is the nicest, most beautiful song ever written. (to Lindsey) And I have to give you some credit, because you did put it together and produce it and make it into a song. (to audience) All I did was write the little poem and write the little Landslide thing - dun dun dun dun dun dun - that I do when I write every single song I write. He is the one who takes it and makes it into something really beautiful. So the song itself was a really pretty poem about how amazing our relationship was and how much fun we were having and how crazy - you know, we were in love and we were young and it was fantastic. So this song is that first song. Well, we lost this song and then we found it again in 2010 on - oh yes, you guessed it, my favorite thing - Youtube! There it was. The lost song. Ta-da! So we found it, I brought it to Lindsey and I said, "Listen to this!" And he listens to it, and we like both went, "We know this song and we know it so well that we don't even have to practice it!" So we're gonna sing this song. And I have to always be reminded by my friend Mick Fleetwood here that these were the voices and the phrasings that attracted him to us. Besides, Lindsey's a fantastic guitar player, they needed that. On the other side of that, the voices and the phrasing is what he really loved when he heard us. So thank you Mick, so much, for pulling me away from being a waitress. (to Lindsey) He did. (Lindsey: "He did.") (to audience) We're going to sing this song for you now and it's called "Without You."

Whew.

He was standing at his mic the whole time cause i was standing right under him. Pretty sure he was cracking up during that whole thing. I should have filmed him! But the spot was out over his head till she made it clear she was seeking him out. So so adorable.

EVERYONE going to these shows -- if you are filming and are into the interaction, PLEASE try to capture before/after Landslide, after NGBA (before Without You) and then when band is walking out for the two encores. Heck, I'll throw before Sad Angel in their too cause Lindsey is actually doing that one off the top of his head each night. These are the parts that have been the most priceless so far. IMO. Hello my blossoms,

Sorry I don't post very often anymore.

I took 15 videos of the show last night at Prudential, of partial songs, on my iPhone. I think they came out pretty well, esp. the audio.

I did get part of the intro to "Without You" and the song in its entirety, though! And kudos to whoever it was who performed the Herculean feat of transcribing the intro.
Will post the videos to YouTube later and provide links.

Got in for $40 and seat-surfed my way down to a VIP section on the Stevie side, 10 rows from the stage, and directly behind Liz Rosenberg and her 'bunny ears'.

And kudos to the anonymous woman who saw me cringe when an usher came by, and said, 'I own the last three empty seats in this row. If anyone gives you any $h*t, you move down here with us.'

I heart you.

I'm rather late with any thoughts about last night's show, but work has been busy today and I've just had no time.

Anyway, the main points have been discussed already:

1) Silver Springs was cut (even though in NYC they did it in the second encore before Say Goodbye, all hope was lost when Lindsey announced it would be there final song)

2) The Buckingham Nicks record signing. Adorable to witness.

3) Video showing when Stevie says to the audience "This is all your fault" about how we keep this going for them.

4) Lindsey annoucing the iTunes EP release, and the FOUR songs.

5) Extra long "Without You" intro speech with Stevie being so adorable.

One thing I wanted to mention was that they did not address the city or even "Jersey" when they spoke. I thought they personalized each show by mentioning something, whether it be the city name, or the venue.

This was my 3rd show and possibly my last of the tour (or forever??:()
But each time something was mentioned at the shows I went to. Philly was addressed as being the 2nd stop etc, NYC got the whole "Madison Square Garden is the dream" speech. Boston of course got special mention. Unless i didn't hear and they did address the city/state.

I'd like to mention too that security was much tighter on the floor. From what I saw, when the time comes to go to the front at Go Your Own way, the guy simply kept sending people back to wherever they came from. Which meant no one went to the front until after the first encore was over. And since there was only Say Goodbye left to be done, a lot of people made it to the front just for the one song.

It was a very cool night though. I couldn't believe it had been 10 years since Janet and I saw all the SYW Tours shows that we did.

One thing I wanted to mention was that they did not address the city or even "Jersey" when they spoke. I thought they personalized each show by mentioning something, whether it be the city name, or the venue.

Without You (with a rather amusing intro)

Stevie: "Anyway, this is the nicest.... are you there, Lindsey? I'm not seeing you. Lindsey? Aha, there you are. You're hiding from me! Anyway, so Lindsey and I both believe this is the nicest, most beautiful song ever written."

IMO. Aside from some of the outstanding musical performances. :)

I agree. I go to see the performances, but the ad libs, song intros, band intros, and when they say goodnight are just as entertaining. I even love when the song ends, to hear the roar of the crowd. To me, that is just as powerful. Like Stevie says, they throw it out, and we throw it back. So loving this tour. Big time!!!!

Fleetwood Mac Concert Review 2013 – VIP Experience With Mick FleetwoodPosted on April 26, 2013 by Terry Makedon
April 24 2013 – Tonight T-Mak World saw Fleetwood Mac perform at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This was a very special experience and and one that we wish to share in great detail, if that sounds interesting then read on dear fans of good music…

Warning: If you want a generic Fleetwood Mac concert review, go to the website of the daily newspaper of any city the band played in so far and you can read dozens of similar stories. If you instead prefer a more in-depth look of Fleetwood Mac’s 2013 tour from a fan’s perspective – you came to the right place. The following article is presented in 2 parts; the Mick Fleetwood VIP event (this story), and the actual concert review from Newark New Jersey on April 24 2013 (which is coming shortly), we recommend reading them both in order for full enjoyment.

Mick Fleetwood VIP Event.

Let’s rewind to the juicy beginning. While searching for tickets for Fleetwood Mac’s 2013 tour I got an alert from Mick Fleetwood‘s email list. Fleetwood (the man) in association with a company called ground(ctrl) were offering VIP packages in the first 5 rows at one of the upcoming Fleetwood Mac (the band) shows. Being used to the overpriced offerings from Live Nation I almost didn’t pay attention to the information I had in front of me. What appeared to be too good to be true? Well $425 got you a pre-concert Q&A with Mick Fleetwood, as well as a photo with him, but most importantly a seat in the first 5 rows. The best part was, unlike Live Nation’s VIP Nation, you actually know where you will be sitting before you purchased. I scoured all the show offerings with one thing in mind – front row center. After having seen hundreds of concerts I always had a desire to have a ticket in row 1 (or row A) and to my surprise a couple of tour stops had them available. Newark, NJ was the closest so I pulled the trigger and decided I would fly across the border for a chance to see Fleetwood Mac from the most sacred of thrones in any arena show.

Mick Fleetwood During Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
The VIP experience began with an email 2 days before the show that read simply:

“This a one-time informational email for the upcoming Mick Fleetwood VIP event taking place at Prudential Center on 04/24/13.

Please make sure to bring your photo ID and meet at the box office at 5:30pm. The VIP Coordinator will then check you in and bring you inside the building for your meet and greet. If you do not show up at the time listed above, we cannot guarantee that you will be granted admission into the VIP event.”

At 5:30 p.m. off to the box office and pick up the ticket. Right in front of the box office was our Coordinator (Don) who checked off names on a list and handed a lanyard with a 3D image of Mick with big VIP letters on it. All in all I would say there were about 30-35 people that purchased the VIP package.

Just after 6 p.m. we wer still in the box office area which is adjacent to the back of the floors section at the Pru and we begin to hear Fleetwood Mac kick off their sound check. Standing close to the door of the floors it was pretty obvious they were playing Second Hand News as their one and only sound check tune. The rules were repeated a couple of times “No cameras, no texting, no touching anything on stage. You will be asked to leave immediately if you break the rules”. We were also told we can ask Fleetwood anything but he may refuse to answer or answer with “it was the 70’s, I don’t remember”.
Eventually at 6:15 we were let in and were escorted to the first three rows on stage right (Stevie’s side). Within a couple of minutes Fleetwood walks in and tells everyone to get up on stage! All VIP members get up on stage and form a semi-circle around Fleetwood who is standing between where Nicks and McVie would play from.

Fleetwood tells people to watch the end of the stage and kicks off with jokes about the guy from Nirvana that would dive off the stage and how he might be a bit too old to do that. He mentions that this is the beginning of the tour (10th date tonight) and that “it’s a rallying of the gang”. Fleetwood Mac get together to do these tours when the time is right and everyone else has finished whatever it is they are doing. He speaks about the band doing what they like to do best and gives insight on how the new lights malfunctioned the first few shows and that now are no longer part of the set. He jokes saying “McVie who is very thrifty said – great we just saved 300 grand”. After 5 minutes he thanks everyone for coming and says “welcome to our world”. He then tells everyone to get lined up to take a picture with him. Fleetwood spoke with authority, good humour, and a confident voice.

Mick Fleetwood During Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
The picture portion is very rushed and everyone gets about 5 seconds with Fleetwood in front of his drumkit and Don (the ControlAlt coordinator) takes a couple of quick snaps. A quick hello nice to meet you is pretty much all anyone has time to say, but the picture does capture a great memory.

Once everyone finishes their pictures they go back to their seat and wait for Fleetwood to come down. He ends up standing up down in front of the stage. Questions are shouted out and as that happens Don gathers one item from each person which gets passed to Fleetwood to autograph them as they come to him )as he is talking to answer questions).

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours LP with Mick Fleetwood Autograph

I got to ask the first question (since Fleetwood was right in front of me), and it was “Can we expect a new record?”. Fleetwood answers with “We hope so, we are putting out an EP within hours or days on iTunes and eventually will release 4 new songs. We only found out this was going to happen just 2 weeks ago. Then it will go to other formats after iTunes. We hope that that in some shape or form – Lindsey, John and myself got in the studio to record some songs and we left areas for Stevie to sing. It will hopefully become something that will grow out of the EP, and I hope during the breaks on this long tour we can work on the potential of Stevie’s 3 or 4 tracks that could be made into an album. If not I am just very glad we have something new out, while we are doing this. Stevie had a really busy 2 years that meant it was not possible for her to join what we were doing and sadly she lost her mom and it wasn’t speakable until now. Before we went on the road she went in and did some singing so it’s the beginning of something that we hope will happen.”

Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood During Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
The next question was about Christine McVie joining on stage in London and which show. Fleetwood states that he does not know which show but the best would be to go to both shows at the O2 shows to be sure. (At this point I had flashbacks of being at the O2 for Roger Waters and not knowing which show David Gilmour would show up to play Comfortably Numb on The Wall tour – I was there that lucky night and you can read about that here if interested). Fleetwood also claims that McVie is willing to do this in exchange for a trip to Hawaii with him. He says “we all hope she at least starts writing music again” and that she claims that she doesn’t miss music. Fleetwood claimed he is skeptical about that though. He wants to see how she feels stepping on stage again and see what she is missing.

Mick Fleetwood During Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
The next question is about Fleetwood’s winemaking which he answers with pride. He says he has been doing wine for about 12 years now and it is a lot of work. The wine business is way worse than the music business he claims and involves a lot of “back-handers” and “playing the game”. He says it is available in Mauii and jokes how bad would it be to travel all the way there to try the wine and it tastes like crap.

The next question is about the setlist and if they will play older tracks. Fleetwood says no with authority as the old songs are really from a different band and a different time era.He does reveal though that in Europe they will play Peter Green’s Oh Well (a Fleetwood Mac song from 1969) he says which is great news for the people there.

Mick Fleetwood During Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
Next someone asks about the bracelets he is wearing and Fleetwood states it’s the hippy in him and was given to him from his ex-wife Sarah. She had one made and he copied them with gold or silver. He offers to sell off one of them as a joke.

Fleetwood spends a little time talking about himself and his nonmusical endeavors. Particularly his car racing and some races he ran at 130 miles per hour as well as his acting career and admits to have anxiety for remembering lines but it was fun to do The Running Man. He also made terrible B movies and some children’s films and 15 years ago he gave up on that. Last but not least he talks about using a cane as a walking stick while climbing up mountains in Mauii which is where he lives and runs a restaurant which is actually a lot of work but a lot of fun. He claims he runs a restaurant because he loves to interact with people and the restaurant is part of his grand plan for when he stops touring with Fleetwood Mac. The people on the island call him Uncle Mick which he says is kinda cool! He also tells us his Mom lives with him and he will go back on the tour break to see her and his girlfriend.

Fleetwood Mac World Tour 2013
He finishes by stating that he will have a drum solo tonight and he does still get nervous before going on stage. He truly thanks everyone for coming out for this and if it wasn’t for the fans they (Fleetwood Mac) would be having to play in their living rooms.

Roughly 40 minutes after we walked to the empty Prudential Center we are finished and walk back out to join the growing crowds for tonight’s show. Truly a very cool experience and one that surely will be remembered for a long time from everyone that was there. Mick Fleetwood is as a down to earth guy you have ever met and it would be phenomenal to hang out with him for an hour or two and listen to him tell stories of a rock star’s life while drinking a bottle of his wine with him. You can read part 2 of this story here (coming very soon) (this is the actual concert review as seen from front row center).

Verdict: 5 out of 5 – A once in a lifetime experience to get great insight from a rock and roll legend. The laws of supply and demand dictate the price of such a VIP experience, but I must say this is one of the most reasonably priced packages available to concert goers. Kudos to ground(ctrl) for a job very well done.

They are just being so freaking cute this tour. I can totally see that if Fleetwood Mac had not worked out and they had gotten married and had kids and were now members of AARP that Linds would totally be that husband that just says "yes Dear" all the time and hides in the garage working on a Mustang restoration while Stevie is out antiquing and knitting granny sweaters. It looks like they are at the point now only Rock Stars. Oh, and not married. But since old people dont even sleep in the same room or bed usually at that age its just as well Linds is married to someone else.

Fleetwood Mac at Prudential Center is enjoyable, but...

By Tris McCall/The Star-Ledger on April 25, 2013 at 11:58 PM,
http://www.nj.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2013/04/fleetwood_mac_at_prudential_ce.html

Last year, Hear Music -- that's the label run by Starbucks -- released a tribute disc to Fleetwood Mac. There wasn't a single cover of a Christine McVie song on the collection. Maybe she gave the okay for that, and maybe she didn't want to negotiate with Hear; in any case, it felt like she'd been written of a story in which she's a central character.

Last night, the Mac held the stage at the Prudential Center for nearly two and a half hours. There was only a single Christine McVie song on the setlist -- "Don't Stop," which is mostly sung by Lindsey Buckingham. McVie wasn't present for the concert, which is nothing new: She hasn't been performing with the group in more than a decade. Mick Fleetwood mentioned in an interview that the door is always open, and he'd love it if she'd walk through. Some fans have high hopes for the upcoming London gig; in Newark on Wednesday, she didn't walk through.

I love Lindsey Buckingham. He's something of an onstage megalomaniac, and he'll solo all night and day if you let him, but he's endearing, he's a magnetic frontman and a dexterous guitarist, and his restlessness and taste for experimentation was put to good use by the rest of the group. I love Stevie Nicks, too; her songs are smart, tough, and intoxicating, and get her going in an extended outro and she's likely to guide you to places that few singers ever visit. John McVie and Mick Fleetwood are the rare rhythm players with indelible personalities; push play on a Fleetwood Mac recording and within seconds, you'll know it's them. There are days on which I am convinced that there has never been a greater British-born rock group than Fleetwood Mac -- not the Beatles, not the Kinks, not Led Zeppelin, not the Attractions, nor any of the other boys', boys', boys' bands who never seemed to want to let the girls get a word in.

But that version of Fleetwood Mac is impossible without Christine McVie. She provided the serenity that made Buckingham's frenetic approach palatable, the earthiness that kept Nicks grounded, and the trancelike electric piano parts that added mystic resonance to the thump and throb of the rhythm section. Most of all, she added terrific songs to the repertoire: songs of romance and warmth, stories that added to that distinctive Fleetwood Mac feeling of men and women in conversation. She did not demonstrate Buckingham's imagination or Nicks' urgency. But no songwriter in a band of great songwriters understood the architecture of pop melody better than she did.

Years before Mick Fleetwood had the bright idea of enlisting Buckingham and Nicks, Christine McVie was writing and singing great songs for Fleetwood Mac. She was writing good songs when she was still Christine Perfect, singer and pianist for British blues act Chicken Shack. After "Rumours" became a smash hit, pre-Buckingham-Nicks material dropped out of setlists, and because of that, an unfair percentage of Christine McVie's finest work has gotten lost in the Dark Ages of Mac history. She joined the group in 1971 (she'd drawn the children's book-like cover for the "Kiln House" set the year before) and immediately became a major contributor. "Believe Me," the leadoff cut from the 1973 album "Mystery to Me," is first-rate Fleetwood Mac and as delicious as anything on "Rumours." "Come a Little Bit Closer," from 1974's "Heroes Are Hard to Find," anticipated the major-league pop moves the band would make a year later. Once the band hit the big time, she kept right on penning hits: "You Make Loving Fun," "Think About Me," "Hold Me," "Say You Love Me." (Her album cuts were just as good.)

I'll have my review of this show in Saturday's paper, but I'll give you the short version here: Fleetwood Mac is always something great to behold, but I missed Christine McVie like a jeweled ring I'd dropped down the drain. I want her back, badly, and I'll bet her former bandmates do, too. The setlist is below, but before we even get to that, here's a sensational version of the Mac performing "World Turning" in 1976. Notice there is no bandleader -- just men and women standing shoulder to shoulder, singing in harmony and in dialogue.

This is an interesting thought. That when Fleetwood Mac is put alongside the greatest bands not a single one has a lead female singer, let along two female songwriters. And the core Fleetwood Mac rhythm section Mick and John certainly stacks up very very well against that of the Beatles and the Stones. Greatest band conversations can get very intense very quickly, but the Fleetwood Mac sound certainly stands out as it should.

Well just that they are overly affectionate. Hugs, hand holding, kisses. You don't normally see that type of behavior between two people when one is married to someone else. I mean...hugs are normal but...Anyway, I think it's all an act. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong going on, it just seems weird to me when I see it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lindsey and Stevie have shared more than just the same hotel... They spend a year on the road together every four or so years. I'm sure there have been more than a few 'flings' following Rumours in 1977. And in recent years, maybe tours provide the only chance to be together?? hmm some reigniting, some bonding takes place, that is, before they go into the studio again and Lindsey is back to criticizing Stevie's lyrics.

My view is that the possibility of romance was gone by the TITN era. When they did The Dance it's possible that might have re-ignited, but I get the impression that whatever might have been fizzled out quickly. Since then, no way. I see a staged performance for the shows in 03 and 09 which, for me, grated. On this tour, maybe, I think it's more genuine but I still think after encores they couldn't much care about each other.

True. I think they're just friendly with each other and in a good place right now.
And yeah, it's an act and the crowd is eating it up :)

Still restless, Fleetwood Mac goes deep at Prudential Center

Tris McCall/The Star-Ledger on April 27, 2013

http://www.nj.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2013/04/still_restless_fleetwood_mac_g.html

Guitar in hand, Lindsey Buckingham crouched as he walked, approaching the microphone like a cat on the prowl. Mick Fleetwood gave him a heavy downbeat on a tom and he pounced, barking out the verse to “Not That Funny,” an abrasive deep cut from “Tusk,” the 1979 experimental-pop double album on which he spent the capital Fleetwood Mac had earned with the blockbuster “Rumours.”

Fleetwood Mac has frequently been a band of complementary voices without a clear leader. But “Tusk” was Buckingham’s baby, and the Mac set at the Prudential Center in Newark on Wednesday felt very much like Buckingham’s show.

The band is famous for interplay between huge personalities. Christine McVie, the electric pianist and songwriter who acted as a serene counterbalance to Buckingham’s spastic energy, has spent the last decade in retirement from the group, and wasn’t present. Stevie Nicks remains a commanding onstage force, but her voice is diminished — she no longer tries to reach high notes that once seemed to come effortlessly to her. Bassist John McVie is dedicated to self-effacement; drummer Mick Fleetwood remains a powerhouse, but pointedly called Buckingham the band’s musical mentor. Funny, that: it was Fleetwood who, in 1974, invited Buckingham and Nicks to join a group half-named after him, and whose thunderous backbeat holds the group together.

Fleetwood Mac is celebrating the 35th anniversary of “Rumours” with a reissue and a tour. The band played seven of its cuts, and each one drew an ecstatic response from the packed house. But the group seemed more energized by other material.

Buckingham introduced four straight songs from “Tusk” with fighting words about artistic independence and the importance of creativity. Later, he held the stage alone for his flashy solo reading of the 1987 hit “Big Love,” and closed the evening with the quiet, acoustic “Say Goodbye.” He took some chances with the “Rumours” material, too, slowing down “Never Going Back Again” to a crawl, and punking up “Go Your Own Way.” “I’m So Afraid,” the brooding final cut on the band’s self-titled 1975 album, became a launching pad for a guitar solo that, while spectacular in its dexterity, flirted with self-indulgence.

Buckingham and Nicks dissolved their romantic partnership more than 30 years ago — yet the concert kept reminding us of it. The stars emerged hand in hand, beaming like a presidential couple getting off Air Force One, for the encore set. Earlier in the show, Nicks concluded “Sara” with a turn at Buckingham’s microphone and a sweetly flirtatious dance with him. “Without You,” a love song from the pair’s early years as Buckingham Nicks, was presented as evidence of their initial romantic illusions.

A cynic, or even a passionate fan, might reasonably ask why the two continue to poke the embers of a relationship that cooled ages ago, and if that is threatening to eclipse the manifold dimensions of one of rock’s most fascinating groups.

In the late ’70s, Fleetwood Mac was singular. Here was a successful rock band where men and women engaged in musical and lyrical dialogue on equal footing; their stories of love and betrayal bore a stamp of authority that comes from lived experience and mutual respect between romantic partners. Christine McVie’s work was an indispensable part of that dialogue. It is a testament to the depth and quality of the Fleetwood Mac catalog that the band could play for nearly 2½ hours while swerving around McVie’s rapturous songwriting. Nevertheless, she was missed like a lost limb.

The band did not lack energy. Stevie Nicks took a few songs to warm up, and her performances thereafter were often inexact, but when she lost herself in an outro, as she did during a strong reading of “Gypsy,” she rode the wind like a kite. “Stand Back,” a lively but mechanical Nicks solo hit from the ’80s, was made organic by McVie’s bass and Fleetwood’s fills.

The drummer was a marvel throughout the show: His martial intro to “Eyes of the World,” steady stomp during “Tusk” and dramatic build-up before the climax of “Sisters of the Moon” added drama to songs that might otherwise have flatlined. He is the rapid, healthy pulse of a group that, 50 years into its run, remains restless.

Verdict: 5 out of 5 – A once in a lifetime experience to get great insight from a rock and roll legend.

An absolutely fantastic review that totally made me feel like I was there.

I better call Oscar Goldman for a tune up.;)

Wrong guy. Tuneup's are the job of Dr. Rudy Wells.

I know. I think maybe you put your car on a ferry and swim across. It's very daunting to think about, if you aren't familiar with the logistics.

Michele

In all honesty, I have had more trouble with Jones Beach than with any other venue. Luckily, I've had rides at least one way for each of the concerts I've been to...but, even that hasn't been easy since we were once in this detour from hell that brought us back to the "Welcome to Jones Beach" sign for over an hour. The one time I went there with public transportation...it was difficult. And the last time I looked (which was going on last year's schedule) the bus to the train station didn't stop in front of the venue any more but somewhere by the bath houses. Not sure whose lame brain idea that was. And, another problem is, if you don't have a car, I'm pretty sure you'd have to arrange a car service to a hotel. I don't think there are any within walking distance.

Oh no. I'm sure it's a beautiful place to experience a concert, but it sounds like quite a travail for anyone but the locals. When you described the circles you went in even in a car, that told me everything. Michele
