*No New Album
*No OFFICIAL NAME for the "Tour"
*A stage show and set list that (with the exception of the remarkable "Sisters" and two new songs) has been REHASHED for the past 20 years
Call me crazy, but I'm a bit UNDERWHELMED by the whole "effort" (or lack thereof). I have WORSHIPPED Fleetwood Mac since 1977. I have bought EVERYTHING they've ever done and attended EVERY TOUR (and ALL solo member tours, including Chris McVie's only solo tour in 1984). But, I'm on the verge of losing interest.
Artists like Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Tom Petty have made some of the best music of their careers AFTER the age of 50 or 60. NOTE TO FLEETWOOD MAC: You can still save this sinking vessel. Get Christine McVie to give up gardening and come back ONE MORE TIME. Hire an amazing producer like Rick Rubin, Ethan Johns, Mitchell Fromme or T-Bone Burnett and get back into the studio to make the greatest ART of your life (like you once did with "RUMOURS" and "TUSK, two of the greatest masterpieces in music history). Who gives a crap about TOP 40 hits or record sales? It's not going to happen anyway. Do you think Dylan and Springsteen are sitting around worrying about getting a TOP 40 RADIO HIT in 2013's market? Then, go out on the road with a revamped show (including the new music) and become ARTISTS again. You might even get critical acclaim and win a GRAMMY.......(RESPECT???)
BUT, I guess you're too busy trying to fill corporate rock arenas with the same tired casual fans and the same set list you've been playing for years. I did enjoy "SAY YOU WILL". While not perfect, it was a FINE EFFORT and you at least tried something different. Keep moving in that direction and I'll be the first to jump on board. For the first time in 35 years, I am considering NOT attending a Fleetwood Mac Tour. Why would I shell out 300 dollars plus parking and 15 dollar drinks to see the same show that I've been watching for years just to keep Mick from going broke for the 10th time. It seems to me that you're not really concerned with exploring the artistic future of this band, but rather just biding time to fill your retirement accounts. If not with the band, let Stevie and Lindsey go back to solo projects where THEY DO try to make some new and interesting art (SEEDS WE SOW & IN YOUR DREAMS). You are considered Rock N Roll Royalty by many and you CAN do whatever the hell you want. In the twilight of your career, why not try to be GREAT again? You are all truly gifted artists, just put it down on paper.

I'm in the same boat - i've seen every tour since Tusk in 79. And I was underwhelmed with the shows I saw during the Dance and Say You Will tours. But that's just me.
I like the old school FM without all the back up musicians and singers.
Unfortunately they won't see this post and they aren't Springsteen or Dylan, etc.
And I doubt Lindsey would have the patience to work with Rick Ruben or Ethan Johns.
T Bone Burnett would be interesting...
One thing I do love and have always loved about this band.
Love them or hate them, people always pay attention to what they're doing. And I think that's great.

You have a point, Lindsey would have issues working with an outside producer. Bring back Caillet and Dashut.....throw us a bone.
I was excited with THE DANCE TOUR because we had Lindsey back after years of absence and that dreaded BEHIND THE MASK NUMBER. THE DANCE was at least reason to celebrate.
With the SAY YOU WILL TOUR, at least we got some brand new material, even if we didn't have Chris.
This whole UNLEASHED and NO NAME 2013 TOUR has got me falling asleep. Honey, put the LEASH back on.....it feels as if you been tied up for years.

I don't mind the no name tour with no album.
The Grateful Dead did that a lot - as have the Heartbreakers and Bob Dylan.
These guys just want to play (and I can promise you none of them are doing it for the money).

I find myself losing fanhood too, as well as three friends, all of us longtime diehard fans. We have greeted the current tour with a collective shrug although there are 3 shows within driving distance. Unleashed was a lukewarm experience and now, years later, still the same old.
Too many years of nothing new or creative, and the endless oldies show. FM make it too hard to be a fan.

Im kinda tired of all the negative people on these boards, im suprised i still read the crap after all my 12+ years being a lurker here! I saw opening night columbus, i live n ohio...and the last 4 years its been nicks, nicks, nicks, mac in 09' and im just grateful! This tour is amazing becuz there all actually happy to be onstage together, unlike Say You Will when Stevie coulda gave 2 Shi*s if she was there.....the vocals show it and this was 10 years ago. Stevie Nicks has been reborn somehow and i luv it as i prefer her over all the other members....i come to the shows to see her! So all u negative people take it somewhere else....Im a happy 28 year old fan and love anything i can get....and ill b n cleveland june 15th for the same show i cant wait to see....the countdown begins!

I'm on this side.
I disagree, I was at MSG the other night and I had a great time. Seeing the close to sell out crowd on their feet all night, listening to 65 year olds rocking out a 23 song 2 1/2 set. I will appreciate anything they do in their age.
I'm loving Fleetwood Mac Live 2013, cant wait 'till April 24th at Newark, NJ Prudential Center!!

Well said, she is definitely more on board and putting more effort in than she was with SYW, and I am PUMPED to see them in Detroit in June! And the ending to Sisters of the Moon at MSG...WoW.

:xoxo: We most certainly don't! Not everyone has been to every tour since 1979 and I've never understood why so many people that feel a band going out on tour is always and only a cash grab. They can get paid, and still enjoy what they do, and right now, they appear to be having a great time  Regardless of their reasons, because I love the music, and the band, I'm going to love every second of this tour.

Yeah, kinda weird for a fan board! We don't have to be happy with everything they do, but it does get old listening to all the negative comments since the tour was announced.

I was there opening night, and at MSG too, and both were electric :blob1: I haven't visited here at all until today, as I didn't want to risk ruining the high I get from the concerts. The Mac are amazing for a band of any age, and I'm so freakin' happy to see them my concert high is still intact, despite the haters

Well that's true too. There are some of us fans who (like me) agree and disagree with the original poster. Depends on what day of the week it is. ;) That said, I don't stay up at night pining over the fact that Fleetwood Mac hasn't put out new music in 10 years. But... if I'm in a place like this where there's other fans to share and discuss... I can be honest and say, yeah... it does kinda suck what they're doing. Especially since they've all been kinda saying since "The Dance" that they are a band again and with Buckingham back it doesn't really make much sense that they are not putting out new material. Are they basing it purely in terms of SYW sales? Probably so. Why get on that horse when you don't need to? But even still... we know what the band is capable of. Lindsey in particular has been very prolific over the last 7 years. So yeah, it does kinda sting a little when the band you love so much goes on tour and just "plays it safe"... but hey, I know that we're lucky to still have them around.

Completely agree with everything you said. Sometimes I almost feel like FM should just disband and Lindsey and Stevie should carry on with their solo ventures, which still have actual artistic value.

As a long time fan...(been going to FM shows and Stevie shows since the late 70's)...I can see both sides of this topic...while I am glad they are going on tour and, being a New Orleanian, I get my dream of seeing them at Jazzfest!!! this year...I am thrilled to see them in my home town at an outdoor festival for the first time since 1977. And while I am happy that the setlist contains some gems that I will always love....I wish they would include some older Fleetwood Mac songs from before the LB/Stevie era...I daydreamed of them performing *Hypnotized*, which was the cool FM song we listened to as teens before the Rumours era...and what about another song from Mirage, like Straight Back or Empire State? And Tango in The Night/Say You Will get NO play at all...I also thought it would be cool to hear Stevie do her cover of *Note Fade Away* with The Mac...
But having said all of that, I am happy they are making a stop in my town even though the setlist isn't my dream setlist...I also realize that as I get older...they are even older than me...and getting older by the day...So at this point I am just happy to be able to have the FM experience at least one more time...reading some of the ideas and posts on here, sometimes I think us fans could do a better job managing the band than the actual managers!

Wow, such vitriole from a supposed fan. If you want to get really brutally honest, one could really say that Fleetwood Mac essentially ceased to be an "artistic outlet" after Tusk; that's when everyone seemed to focus their artistic mojo onto their respective solo careers. Since Tusk, it seems that every subsequent reconvening of the "fab five/four" has been a forced affair that seemed to arise only because arms were twisted or political pressure was applied and NOT due to some magnetic artistic chemistry that compelled them to work together. Rather than approaching each new album as a means of exorcising musical/interpersonal demons, everything from Mirage onward seemed to be a deliberate, calculated affair that carried the baggage of hyper-stardom as well as conflicting priorities.
The "Fleetwood Mac" that you pine for disbanded over thirty years ago. And you know what? It's all good. Time marches forward. People change. Music evolves. They are still a great band, albeit, in a different way. This is clearly a group of people (specifically Lindsey and Stevie) who grew sick of working with each other in the studio and who has now figured out a way to stay together while enjoying themselves- touring. Of course the alternative would be to have Fleetwood Mac disbanded once and for all, which would be a crying shame. For me, an appreciation for FM isn't about charting new artistic ground or taking edgy, bold chances; in fact, I think you are following the wrong band if you are all about the new and edgy! It's all about chemistry and being in the music in the moment as it happens. Yes, most of the songs are old and they have played them a gazillion times, but there is a brilliant shimmery electricity that hangs in the air when they are up on stage, together, doing what they do best. It isn't something that can be captured on crappy audience recordings or shaky/blurry/tinny-sounding clips on YouTube.
Yes, a new FM studio album would be a dream come true, and yes, I would love it if they would play nothing but deep cuts in concert. But what we have in 2013 is a band that is realistically in its twilight. I don't hold them up to the level of scrutiny that I did 30 years ago; nobody is the same after 30 years. They certainly don't need to do this for the money, and they could certainly be doing things that are more personally gratifying (solo careers). And they have certainly earned the right to look back on an extraordinary body of work. If you don't agree, then simply don't patronize their shows. But why does one feel the need to come on here to pi$$ on them and everyone else who just wants to enjoy some good f***ing music?
Josh2003

I certainly understand the frustration. I didn't go to one Stevie show between 2005 and 2011 because I didn't want to spend the money to hear LITERALLY the same set list that she'd been doing for years, with the inclusion of a few covers as her idea of shaking things up.
However, I've come to accept, as has Mr. Buckingham, that Fleetwood Mac is the BIG MACHINE. We're not going to get the "riskier" set lists that we would love, or that LB (and to some extent in recent years, Stevie) might be willing to do on a solo tour.
It boggles my mind when people seriously suggest that FM do a set that contains "Seven Wonders," "Can't Go Back," "Crystal," "Walk a Thin Line," "Angel," and "Tango in the Night." Might we get 2-3 of those songs on a tour? Possibly. And we did on this tour! Two new songs, "Sisters," "Say Goodbye," "Not That Funny" (which hadn't been done in FIFTEEN YEARS...to put that in perspective, that's the same length of time between Mirage and The Dance, and remember how big of a deal that was?).
But this has never, ever, ever been a band that really shakes up its set list. Take a look at their sets from the Tusk tour on. They'll play a handful of tunes from whatever album they're promoting, and then stick to the hits.
Would I love a tour where half the set is songs they haven't done in 10+ years, or ever? ABSOLUTELY. Am I happy with this current tour's set? ABSOLUTELY.

Yeah, kinda weird for a fan board! We don't have to be happy with everything they do, but it does get old listening to all the negative comments since the tour was announced.
Indeed. But isn't that more a function of the contempt the band shows for fans than fans just looking for something to pick on?
If FM wants to be a band -- and I would be fine with them just packing it in at this point because they are so stale -- then they should have new music. Ten years and counting since the last studio album. In the meantime, the two songwriters of the band have been producing new music. They are so prolific now that there's just no excuse.
Really, this band has been taking fans for a ride since the mid 1990s, when it looked like they might actually do something cool and meaningful. Instead we got one decent, but not great, studio album, a bunch of retreads and a couple of live recordings.
Compare that measly output -- even going back to 1977 -- to some of the more prolific bands of the 1990s, like Counting Crows, Cracker, Dave Mathews or Sheryl Crow, and you can see how pathetic FM really has been. They simply don't deserve the adoration they get here.
I'm sorry if that offends some fans, but it's true. They are a washed-up musical collaboration that really can't collaborate. They would be better off retiring the band and going off on their own. But they know that as long as they feed people little drabs here and there, go on tour with their rickety tired old show, and continue to play up the Stevie-Lindsey thing, some people are still going to fall for it.
Sad to say, FM has become precisely the thing that Lindsey fought so hard against for son long. Now he wants to justify it with the big machine/small machine stuff, but it must be killing him inside. Ten years or so ago he was still talking about artistic integrity. Do those words even pass his lips anymore?

This shows they are only touring for the money cause royalties of there catalog are slim so they need to make more money so they come out and pretend its artistic reasons to tour and your really can see it's just another reason for them to make a big bank roll.
That goes to my point of how pathetic their output has been. This is a band with an embarrassingly thin catalog, when you think about it. Compare it to Sheryl Crow's or Dave Matthews' or Counting Crows', none of which were even around before the 1990s.
As a band, they should bow, not after the show, but in shame.

If you don't like the band, don't respect them, and feel they should retire...why don't you just step away from a message board...for FM fans? Seriously, if the glory years of FM are behind them and you feel you aren't getting what you need (which, I would imagine 90% of the thousands of people in the audiene would disagree with) ... abandon ship already!
And, really, judging something you haven't seen is not really going to pursuade those of us who have seen the show that we should send them potted plants in the Retired Rockers home.

I just wanted to say, I love this. Kudos to you - it is perfectly stated, and it could not have been said better. Some will attack you and question your status as a fan because they can't bear to hear their idols criticized, but I know that the truth is not always kind or generous; despite this, it always needs to be said.

This whole thread is so typical of this message board. I love all the loyalty to the Mac and its members that i am seeing from many of you here. I know that they are human and are not without fault, but they are 65 years old and have NEVER been ones to put a lot of consecutive albums out or be spontaneous or anything like that. Why is this such a newsflash to people?
To me, the negativity in this thread is why I dont post here much. I mostly dont consider this a FAN board...I consider this a place to come if you want to be picked apart down to your bones. While those who feel negatively about this tour may disagree, many years of being a member here has proven this over and over to me.

Ditto! Give them a chance....jeez.
They Are FLEETWOOD MAC.
The thing is, they've had 26 years of chances. If you don't count Behind The Mask and Time, they've had one album in the last 26 years - and four - FOUR - tours. Granted, for 10 of those 26 years, Lindsey and Stevie were not working together, so let's be fair about it and say they've had one album in 16 years, and FOUR TOURS. Four tours that made them millions. It's a joke, really.

And nothing since. How many chances are we supposed to give them?
I love Fleetwood Mac's music. Even without Christine, I think this lineup is capable of making timeless and classic music. They just don't care enough to do it, and why should they when there are fans willing to fork out thousands and thousands of dollars to hear the same old song and dance?

Oh please. We're fans of a band, not Stepford wives. It's ok to be honest, critical, and engage in debate.

I'm sorry your first response to someone you disagree with is to tell them to leave. I don't expect you have the right to tell anyone here to stop posting, and I don't believe that kind of attitude gets one too far in life.
And, frankly, I don't post here -- which is actually rather rare -- to "persuade" anyone but to express my views. And if my views of the band at this moment in time happen to be negative, that is what I have to offer. No one is forced to read anything.

Agreed! I understand wanting more from the band - I want more from the band, too. However, I don't understand the attitude that they are completely worthless because they're not releasing enough new music or doing enough deep tracks live. Are they reaching their full potential? No. Are they still an incredible band with terrific music who rock the house? Yes.
LONG LIVE FLEETWOOD MAC.

I'm glad they are still touring.
None of these older bands cant compete with new music on the radio with todays young artists.
I have to say this.I agree with them .Why bother recording new tunes that will not sell in this day in age.
Yes only us fans will buy the new stuff and which does not add up to make it worthwhile to record the new tunes.
I'm glad that SYW had a great outing 10 years ago. Also it got good radio airplay.

I guess so. I tend to be rather literal.
As far as the OP and differing points of view:
I'm trying to think about this in a different perspective, and I think this difference in opinion among fans comes down to two different consumer types. I'll use an analogy: your favorite movie. I have a favorite movie, or a few, as most people do. While I can listen to the same songs over and over, I rarely will ever watch a movie twice. I think of a tour, a live show, as being more like a movie and less like a song.
I don't buy copies of movies, and I'd bet I'm not the only one. I see no point in spending money to own a copy of it when I've already seen it, and I certainly will not be paying to see it again in the theatre. I probably won't even watch it for free on TV, unless it's been so long that I've forgotten most of the story. A concert is like a movie to me, it's a visual representation or display of a band's songs. it's like a play or theatre production, for music.
There's little point, from my perspective, in seeing that show twice. As it is now, Fleetwood Mac has taken the same show (or movie) out on the road three times now, and all they've done is *slightly* rearrange the order of the scenes and show us a few more from the cutting room floor. It hasn't been long enough for me to forget the story, so it feels redundant *to me*. When movie-makers want to engage us in more of the same, they make a sequel - what Fleetwood Mac needs is a sequel. The same characters, with a very different story. When movie sequels are obvious replays of the original, they get panned by critics. A fan is pretty much a critic, and this critic is panning this tour, because it's just the same show rehashed.
Now, because I'm unhappy with the setlist, or feeling malcontent about no new album, or just because I complain about the tour, or I (and others) agree with a post that is critical of the band/tour/setlist *does not* mean that we hate Fleetwood Mac, or that we think they suck, or that we wish they were dead, or that we're ungrateful they're alive and working, or that we want them to not tour at all. It just means we're not satisfied, and we're not giving them our money this time, and we're talking about it, and that's OK.

I really liked what HejiraNYC said. See for me...I was not around for the "heyday". I was born in 1978, and all I recall is the songs I heard in the 80s on the radio. In 1997, I was aware of The Dance because of my best friend. I was a little curious about it, but did not get to go to those concerts because I wasn't really a "FAN fan" yet, if you know what I mean.
In 1998, I started to "get it." Stevie Nicks toured in June 1998 in NJ, and I got to see that and was SO excited to see a legend. I thought this might be her last time! I had NO idea that in the 2000s she would tour almost EVERY YEAR!
When 2003 came, and "Say You Will" came out, I was in love. I couldn't believe I got to hear new music from a band who was legendary and before my time in a way. I considered myself SO lucky. It was 18 songs of sheer bliss for me. I usually do NOT like an "older legendary" band's new output when compared to their older stuff, but in this case I really got INTO this album. When they toured with it, and had THREE legs in my hometown area, I jumped aboard for a great ride, never knowing if this would be the end or not.
2009 Unleashed came. I was excited, but longed for more new stuff.
I've had almost every year since of solo Stevie and Lindsey tours to satisfy me. But when they are together and Fleetwood Mac is on that stage, well it IS true -- it's about CHEMISTRY and hearing those great songs, because one day there will be fans who come here, who right now are only 10 years old, but in ten years they will be 20 and coming here for the first time, and guess what...they will be envious of us, and they'll be wanting to hear the stories of when they toured, because FM probably won't be touring in 2023! You know? So, it's not that I am drinking the Kool-Aid, or falling for some scheme of theirs to tour for the wrong reasons, and I'm not against ever hearing criticism for my favorite band. What I AM....is grateful no matter what, because even though I am a latecomer fan in Fleetwood Mac's career, I STILL got to see them LIVE in my lifetime. We are lucky we have that because not everyone will. Even if I didn't see the rockin' bangin' kick-ass FM of 1979, and even though I missed Sisters Of The Moon in 1982 etc....I got to SEE them, in some form, perform this great music. I was a part of something. In my lifetime. In THEIR lifetime.
Youtube videos and cell phone clips and even any recording I may have captured WON'T show all of that magic to you skeptics. To someone who wasn't there, maybe it would sound stale to your ears, maybe it looks lacklustre to your eyes. But if you were THERE....you know why it was so important and you appreciate the magnitude of what you witnessed.
I'm grateful for the esacapism I got last weekend. Fleetwood Mac gave that to me. Moments of my life where all I felt was a tingle in my gut from the electric anxiety of seeing them live. Where all I felt was happiness. That's what they gave to me.

I literally can't get enough and I get so freaking excited everytime they tour and while I would love for them to add some different stuff in their set I am still so unbelievable happy to hear Dreams for the 10th time live. If someone has seen the show and wants to complain that's fine. But if they haven't seen it and are just going by what they remember from 2009, 2003 or 1997 or 1982 I don't consider the opinion valid anyway. I've seen them every tour since 1979 and, except for Time, I've seen them multiple times every tour (well, I haven't seen this one multiple times yet, but if I live long enough . . .) and I've never seen the same show twice.
And no, I'm not given to watching the same thing over and over again. Although I do think I've seen Purple Rain 15 times and I've seen I Want to Believe and Fight the Future many times as well. But those are exceptions. Usually I don't repeat. Anyway . . .
On the other hand, I don't agree with the "and you call yourself" a fan attitude. I see no reason to be gushy and gooey about anything too long. I would never belong to a fan site where all people do is sit around and sprout googly-eyed praise incessantly. I LOVE to complain. I will complain about anything. I don't want to be happy. I never will be. Maybe I'm not a Fleetwood Mac fan. Maybe I'm a detractor. Detractors need somewhere to post too. Fans should probably go some place where there's lots of love all around and Mary Tyler Moore is throwing her hat up in the air.

*****
I think it's funny that, over the years, we've discussed so many aspects of the band on this board, with nearly gleeful abandon. Drug use, affairs, and infidelity. We've talked about how much we hate Stevie's shoes or her dress. How ridiculous Lindsey can be in interviews with his talk of 'cycles'. How much of a moocher Mick is. We've talked about how certain albums or songs are terrible, we've criticized lyrics, shamed them for not recording the demos we like, or for changing a song we liked into something we don't. We talk sh*t about how Judy Wong was treated, about Lindsey being an abusive jerk, about Stevie being a clueless narcissistic primadona. About Stevie putting cocaine in her butt, or having abortions. We've talked about who was screwing around with who and what a good or bad person they are because so-and-so was married. We routinely play games where we vote away songs we don't like. We've discussed songs that we wish had never been! Producers have been trashed - we've even said some admittedly terrible things about members of Stevie's family and Lindsey's wife.
But a tour setlist is off the table? A tour setlist is *too much*. Talking about the lack of an album or releasing new music? Over. The. Line. Not wanting to fork out money to see, essentially, the same tour as before, and before that - that is the final straw? That's SO NEGATIVE that it's enough to bring into question just how much of a fan one really is? Trashing Mick for greed, shaming Stevie for her footwear, publicly dicussing whose hotel room Lindsey was in - these are all ok, but the tour is off limits. Whatever.
For those who don't know or weren't around, this happens for every tour - solo or together as a band. There are always those who aren't content, and they talk about it, and inevitably there are those who just can't stand to read anything critical of Fleetwood Mac (or especially Stevie) when it comes to touring, and will point fingers and call you names for not being a yes-man.

I was unhappy with the setlist in 2009, But I saw them twice, and, as a fan since the mid seventies, they blew my socks off. They never do what I want, and they always overwhelm me anyway. It's that electricity, and the combination of a priceless rythmsection with a sharp and endless energetic guitargod with this untouchable charismatic girlsinger, that somehow, when experienced live, always touch my soul. Whatever dumb choices they make, when you see them live, you just break at the anckles. (Dutch expression. Eh.. Mine anyway).

If someone has seen the show and wants to complain that's fine. But if they haven't seen it and are just going by what they remember from 2009, 2003 or 1997 or 1982 I don't consider the opinion valid anyway.
Michele
Yes, that bugs me the most. I didn't go online after the Columbus show, but some friends were reading out loud, some of the Ledgie reviews, and it drives me nuts. Go see 'em first, for cryin' out loud!

BOOM! With millions of fans it's unlikely any of us will get everything we want. I wanted more from Tusk this year, and I did get more, but not the songs I wanted most. But they were so good, it didn't matter in the least! I was joking with some friends that I didn't even notice until three songs in, that Lindsey wasn't wearing a different color shirt :p (like I wanted), because I was so immediately taken by the music, and the show, and just being there with awesome friends...at Fleetwood f'ing Mac!!!!

I like Abbi's post! I have similar story-but have been into them heavy duty since 82. For me, first show in 87-Tango, then SN/FM/LB everytime ever since! It wasn't until 2003 that I started REALLY seeing similarities at shows. I'd go see Stevie here and there for a 2 night stint and get that it would virtually be the same show, but w/ the SYW tour-I realized down to the talk between songs...it was the same thing over and over. Thing is OMFG, I was able to see FM, not once, twice but over a dozen times. Then the luxery/ability to see SN several times on one tour. Even as it was dawning on me that I am going to see the SAME thing night after night, city after city, for me, it's always been about the experience, friends made, and memories.
I too wish there would be some varience, and kinda kick myself in the ass when I go tour to tour knowing what I'm going to get. BUT I KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO GET, and if I didn't want that "menu" I wouldn't pay the money. I am blessed at opportunities to see Stevie, Lindsey, or FM. Yea, often times at ridiculous financial cost (ticket, travel, hotel), but I make that choice. (And yea, I get it...if we all got together and went on strike, maybe they woudn't come out w/ same stuff due to patrons like me...good luck with that :p)
Anyway, same w/ the board negativity-don't wanna hear people piss and moan, skip to next topic. It's all how we define our love for the band. Not a one of us can be completely happy, but when seeing them live, or constantly shelling out for the "new" Rumours, it kind of is what it is.

Oh gosh. I recall some discussion - I think it must have been around the time of the SYW tour, and there were people who swear they saw Lindsey going to the hotel Stevie was in instead of the hotel he was supposedly staying in, or some such shipper nonsense. There was much drama and speculation and moral preaching about what Lindsey was doing, he's a role model, blah blah blah and I could swear there were Ledgie witnesses who saw him picking up a woman in a hotel bar when he was already married to Kristin. It was so long ago, I really don't remember the details, but it was heavily discussed. I want to say Strand would remember, but it was long before I even signed on here, back when I used to post only on BN.net, while lurking here.

Completely agree with everything you said. Sometimes I almost feel like FM should just disband and Lindsey and Stevie should carry on with their solo ventures, which still have actual artistic value.
Too bad that didn't happen in '81.
We most likely would've had a consistently working Fleetwood Mac ever since. ANNNNND, the occasional Nicks & Buckingham albums, too.

Fleetwood Mac, as a band, or as individuals, do not owe us anything. They are artists, and yes, they are a business as well. If they want to go out on the road and tour behind a 105 minute version of 'When I See You Again' (complete with never before heard intonations of 'Whasamadda Baby?') that is their choice.
I am a fan of Fleetwood Mac. I do not owe them anything either. I buy the music I want to, I go to the tours I want to see. It is a symbiotic relationship. I give them money when they make me happy. The great thing is that I will always have their music to cheer me up, console me, drive me, and keep me company on days I am lonely, even when they aren't putting out new music.
If you are not happy with the current direction of the band, the set list, or whatever, that's fine. Don't spend the money on it.
I realize places like this are great for venting frustration and what not in an anonymous fashion, but there is no reason to degenerate anyone, and that's what your Open Letter is, or at least that's how it reads. By all means, say that you are unhappy, but have some respect for the band, and some for yourself, for that matter.

Whatever.
This makes it sound like everybody is always perfectly cool with us talking about all those controversial topics that you list in the first paragraph above. However, back when I posted here and on BN.net regularly from about 2001-2005, I remember there being just as much - if not MORE - drama and outrage in discussions on some of those topics than there is about the setlist/new music in these few threads! Methinks you're wearing some rose-colored glasses looking back on those old days, my friend, if you think "over the years" only these few tour threads have garnered such reactions.
And the closest thing I remember to a "Lindsey doing something naughty" moment back then was our discussion about Lindsey and a Cheetah Girl at the Four Seasons in Atlanta 2003.

Its very simple. Don't go to the concerts.
I agree with all of you on the stale setlist and no new tunes up to now.
I'll still go even if they play Dreams and Landslide for 2 hour in 20 different versions.LOL I know that will be boring for some of you but I would love to hear them sing the tune in different styles.
I would love to hear FM tunes in Bluegrass or countrified. LOL
I'm getting older .They are getting older.I want to continue to go as much as possible.
I've been on the FM bandwagon since the 1980's.I enjoyed every tour.

My open letter to the Mac:
Dear Fleetwood Mac,
You are my heart & soul. Since I was 5 I've been rocking out to your album "The Dance." Your music has touched me in ways nothing else has, ever. Long before I expanded my Fleetwood Mac catalogue, "The Dance'' was there for me. My lullaby.
I am so very thrilled you are doing this tour. This is the first time in my life I will be able to see you. #CanadaProbz. Stevie, you look smoking hot. Lindsey, you seem to be on fire. I don't need new music - I don't need a fancy tour name - I could listen to your voices and art all day and it could even be stand up comedy, for all I care.
When I first started listening to Fleetwood Mac, I thought you were a much bigger band than you are. I heard the marching band in "Don't Stop," and "Tusk," and believed all those players were FLEETWOOD MAC as well. I didn't realize that you were much smaller in the amount of members, but you'd be much larger in importance and significance of my life.
Thank you for doing what you do, tour after tour, for your fans. I'm elated I'm finally going to be able to see you, in only 7 days! :]

I don't know if this was mentioned already--I apologize if it was-- but the artists mentioned in bold are all essentially solo artists with good backing bands. Dylan, Springsteen, and Petty (well, and Cash) are the unquestionable lead singers and front men of their respective bands. Without the front men, I doubt the bands would make a killing on their own merits. Whereas Fleetwood Mac, as we are all well aware of, has three songwriters who can easily stand on their own, which makes it that much easier for any of them to leave when they are the least bit frustrated with the group dynamic. With groups, as in any group projects (work, school, etc.), more time is needed to get important work done, especially when each individual is essentially represented by a different manager hoping to keep that individual's best interests in mind, both aside from the band and as part of the band (but only when sales are good for the band and worse for the individual). Given the circumstances, I don't know if I could ask for more aside from a few setlist changes. On the other hand, The Eagles: 7 studio albums (none in the '80s or '90s); The Mamas & the Papas: 5; The Velvet Underground: 5..try to think of some other bands with 2+ singer-songwriters that lasted while producing albums prolifically.

Being new to the board, I am surprised at some reactions here. There seems to be a vibe that if you don't go see the shows, you should just shut up. I haven't seen a show and don't plan to. I can fire up my DVD player and watch practically the same show with "Live in Boston." And in the process I save a couple hundred bucks and avoid the crowds.
I have been careful, however, not comment directly on the shows because I haven't seen one, but I stand by my comments that FM is a musical collaboration that can't collaborate and that the band has grown stale. I also stand by comments I have made about the new songs. Granted, I may love them when I hear a studio recording, but what I have heard from the live recordings has been less than impressive. Sure, I wasn't there, but I can comment on what I've seen and heard on the Web, can't I? Or is that not valid?

For those who don't know or weren't around, this happens for every tour - solo or together as a band. There are always those who aren't content, and they talk about it, and inevitably there are those who just can't stand to read anything critical of Fleetwood Mac (or especially Stevie) when it comes to touring, and will point fingers and call you names for not being a yes-man.
Those were the good ol days!! How my 20 something self misses it, but my late 30 something self doesn't care for all the negativity anymore. I still troll here from time to time, though. Not pointing fingers at anyone, at all, but it is what it is... Their set list has to cater to the masses, and not a smaller group of diehards. I still love their shows. My daughter is 14 now and was finally able to join me tonight and she had an absolute blast! Because.... Their set list caters to the masses! She could sing along!

i feel the same as previous posts. it becomes tiresome to hear the CONSTANT complaints. is this a "fan" forum , or a "b*tch about their song/performance/records" forum. they are doing what they want. personally, i'm impressed with people in their 60's trecking out on a 50+ date tour, and i'm happy they are still at it. do we expect 64 yo Stevie to recapture a coke-addled 34 yo performance?
would promoters book a tour of b-sides, unrelesed tracks, and deep album cuts from a nostalgia act?
i'm certain they have to clear the set with promoters.

Dido! That said, although I was entirely ambivalent about their last tour, and felt no need to go, I am attending a show on this tour. You never know when the group could abruptly come to an end. But it's very disappointing that, at this later stage of their career, they are still playing it so safe and not taking the opportunities they have now to give life-long fans an entirely fresh show. But I understand there are certain constraints and conditions they have to abide by. However, it seems some bands have the freedom and a particular demographic/fan base that allows them to be very fluid with their set lists, where there are no expectations or limits.

I fully understand the sentiment that it is great they are still going in their 60's, they don't owe us anything, they are no more stale than any of their contemporaies, etc. It is all true. But for me, they are teetering on the brink of irrelevancy even though I have been a fan for my adult life and I am now in my 50's.
My problem is likely common to many fans and casual fans:
!. I have all the music they have created in various formats.
2. There is no new music for many years.
3. My attention strays, there is nothing to look forward to.
4. I start not caring.
5. I become cynical about tours like the current one.

you have to remember that most people going to the shows are not hardcore fans - they grew up with fleetwood mac and just mainly want to hear the greatest hits.
thats all most fans of old groups want.
i bet if you went into a arena and asked all of the people in there how many owned 'Say you Will' album from 2004 - it wouldnt be a large number.
also everything is about the $$$ nowadays. We are all capitialists.
as long as they get get people to spend $$$$ on tickets to go see them then maybe they dont have to try as hard, eg, new music, new photoshoots, etc, etc.
i am not saying it right but what can ya do?
you can vote with your feet and not go and see the new tour.
other then than there is not much you can do.

Despite the different thoughts around the negativity, we wouldn't be here if we weren't a hardcore fan, I have better things to do with my time, but the music of this band is a big part of my life so I choose to take part. Believe you me, it took me years to see the band through anything but my rose coloured glasses and music I thought was good in the 80's I now see for the sub-standard mess that it is, no apologies. There is nothing wrong with levelling criticism where it is due, even back in the day the band received some pretty scathing reviews and we still loved them. I think this article sums things up pretty well and reflects my message to the band that there are plenty of options to stay relevant other than these endless, stale, too-Rumours-heavy concert setlists designed to dig deep into our pockets. My view is that if I am to shell out that kind of cash, I want excitement!:
Fleetwood Mac Revamp — Five ways the iconic band could reignite the flame
http://www.suntimes.com/entertainmen...the-flame.html
By THOMAS CONNER
[email protected] April 10, 2013 1:54PM, chicago sun times
The classic rock institution that is Fleetwood Mac has embarked on its umpteenth reunion tour this spring. The band isn’t supporting a new album.
Nevertheless, despite saying never many times, they’re going back again — and again and again, with 66 arena concerts scheduled around the world this year.
It’s hard to get excited about this go-round — even for me, a lifelong Mac addict undeterred even by the “Time” album. The biggest news out of the tour so far is that the band plans to perform “Sisters of the Moon,” a 33-year-old “Tusk” track.
Yawn.
The last time Fleetwood Mac toured the tambourines and scarves, in 2009, singer-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham told me that, even after all these years, it felt like “a proving ground.” But this time, even the band doesn’t seem exactly juiced about their jaunt.
“We know we’re going to do certain songs,” namesake drummer Mick Fleetwood said in a recent online interview, “and if we don’t do them, the audience will shoot us.”
“We always have to play ‘Dreams,’ ‘Rhiannon,’ ‘Don’t Stop,’ ‘Tusk,’ ‘Big Love,’ ‘Landslide’ and all our most famous songs,” Lindsey Buckingham told Rolling Stone. “For now, I have no particular vision of what this tour is going to be.”
Actually, guys, you don’t have to.
In fact, I call upon all Fleetwood Mac fans to join me in declaring: Lindsey, Stevie, John, Mick — we release you! Whatever social-setlist contract you think exists between us is officially now and forever nullified, voided, torn asunder. You are pardoned.
Please: Play whatever you want. Forgo the hits, play the misses. Play jazz, play bluegrass. Throw out the setlist altogether. Try improvising. Try failing.
Anything but this put-upon resignation to the slavish “demands” of your fans — because, frankly, it makes us all sound like jerks.
“2013 is going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac,” Nicks told Rolling Stone.
Here are five ways the Fleetwood Mac crew could announce a tour that would actually make a dent in the absurdity of that statement and once again activate my salivary glands:
1. Record a real Fleetwood
Mac album
“Say You Will,” the most recent Mac album, already is a decade old. The last new record the band actually wrote and recorded while generally in the same room with each other was “Mirage” in 1982. Since then, it’s been hijacked Buckingham solo projects (“Tango in the Night,” “Say You Will”), misfired lineups (“Behind the Mask,” “Time”) and greatest hits. The recently announced EP (due any day now) smacks of merch, not creativity.
Y’all need to hole up and jam. Not just the requisite two new songs (such as “Sad Angel” and “Miss Fantasy”), not another dredged-up B-side turned into a new A-side (“Silver Springs”), not a 37th anniversary repackage of “Rumours” — but a full studio set. If the members of this corporate board have the time for 66 unasked-for shows, you can stare at each other over a sound board again.
2. Scale it down
We get it, you’re huge. Every tour is an arena tour. The music has echoed around so much steel and concrete it’s stopped being songs and just devolved into mere momentary memory cues. Why not bring it down, focus the attention — play theaters?
Sure, you’ll boost the ticket price, but you can also loosen things up to make it worthwhile. Setlists could change up. (The play-an-entire-album trope might work here.) Unscripted banter could break out. (Maybe even a long-simmering argument.) Most of your fans could see you in the flesh, rather than on a video screen. (You’re not computer projections yet, are you?)
3. Bribe Christine
Christine McVie packed it in after the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and though she’s attended a few Mac concerts since then she hasn’t joined the band on stage. Given the tone of comments from her mates — Nicks said the chances of Christine returning to the band were equal to an asteroid collision — we understand she’s probably a write-off. Retirement from rock should be respected and, in so many cases, encouraged.
But there’s hope. First, an asteroid did nearly plow into the planet a few weeks ago. Second, McVie actually joined Fleetwood and former Mac guitarist Rick Vito (and, for some reason, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler) on stage in Maui just last February for a sporting run through “Don’t Stop,” playing keys and singing.
She’s this band’s leavening agent. Privately, you guys need her. Musically, so do we. To get just one more ridiculously great song out of her (even a “Temporary One”!), give her the moon to get her back.
4. Reboot Buckingham Nicks
The musical and certainly the personal dynamic between Buckingham and Nicks first clarified on the 1973 pre-Mac album as a duo; the “Buckingham Nicks” LP is now an industry legend, having never been reissued digitally. (Still no straight answer about why that is.) But for at least a decade now, both have been hinting at the desire to record again and tour just as the pair.
“We had already started our second Buckingham Nicks record,” Nicks reiterated in an interview last month at SXSW, describing the project that was dropped when Fleetwood Mac discovered her and then-boyfriend Buckingham and brought them into the band. Buckingham recently and repeatedly has voiced his interest in rebooting that aborted sophomore album — even saying late last year that some sessions had begun with producer Mitchell Froom.
So . . . do it already. Go even more intimate with the resulting tour (clubs!) to highlight your own unique bond. Two people, two guitars, no fuss.
5. An ‘us’ festival
Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players concert in March at SXSW was an enjoyable enough rock and roll revue, spanning generations. Nicks’ performance — dueting with Grohl and backed by the Foo Fighters — was surprisingly great. The Mac songs didn’t sound stale in a modern setting, and Nicks was more than capable of leading the bashing hard rock band with witchy panache.
So go the Ringo all-stars route — but with a larger scope and fewer track suits. Keep Grohl on board, call it Fleetwood Fighters & the Rolling Thunder Always Happens Revue! A half dozen shows across the country, on the Sound City Players model. It could be part reunion (guest turns from Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Billy Burnette, Rick Vito, Bekka Bramlett, Dave Mason), part intergenerational parade of pals (Tom Petty, Don Henley, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Matthew Sweet), part torch-passing (Buckingham can show off his new song with Delta Rae, Best Coast can roar through their magnificent cover of “Rhiannon”), part vaudeville (I’m seeing Chevy Chase on drums for “Holiday Road”). That’s almost enough all for everyone.

I think this article sums things up pretty well and reflects my message to the band that there are plenty of options to stay relevant other than these endless, stale, too-Rumours-heavy concert setlists designed to dig deep into our pockets.
Great post. It certainly confirms that the views of those of us who are frustrated with the band aren't so outlandish after all -- not that we really needed confirmation.
I've already commented about the embarrassingly thin catalog and other problems, so I won't repeat myself. But it strikes me that FM and its fans have a bit of a battered wife syndrome going on. "Sure he beats me, but he is a good provider."
With the band, it goes like this, "Sure they disappoint the fans, take us for granted and blame us for their lack of commercial success, but they are still so great. They have the best 40-song catalog ever and, you know, they've had their own problems."
Some folks seem blown away that 60-plus rockers can still tour. No one's ever done it before apparently -- not the Rolling Stones, B.B. King and a long line of blues players. Not Clapton, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Aerosmith. Not Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen or Paul McCartney or ... or. Well, no one really! No one has ever rocked so hard into their 60s, or even 70s, as Fleetwood Mac.
Take the Stones. As old and crusty as they are, when they have toured in recent years, they still leave everything on stage. They change up the setlist, dig up old gems that we haven't heard in years, play covers, and Mick still shakes his ass on stage like there's no tomorrow while Keith, as he stands there doing his trademark drunk man guitar playing, still gets a huge kick out of watching Mick.
Sorry, folks this willingness to accept too little, and this attitude that "they don't owe the fans anything" (Wrong, they owe us EVERYTHING), is why I say the hardcore fans are like a battered wife.
Someone said FM is no longer relevant musically. Agreed. Someone else said maybe they should have packed up and shacked up in 1980 and be done with it. I am starting to agree with that too.

First of all, comparing fans to battered wives is insensitive and crass.
Second of all, they don't 'owe' us anything, and that mentality reads like the fans 'own' the band. It's a little 'Misery' to say the least. Artists of any medium need only to create, and they do that when they want to. We as a public have the right to patronize artists we choose to. I own albums, books, films, artwork that few others do because it's not popular. But it speaks to me. I also own albums, books, films, and artwork that is incredibly popular. It's Mass Entertainment, but it speaks to me as well.
I love Fleetwood Mac's music, and I would love for them to do a new album, and to tour behind it with a totally revamped setlist. However, if they choose not to, I do not feel betrayed by them. I just listen to the music I have and cherish the tours I went to. The only way to tell the band how I feel in a constructive way is to 'Vote With My Dollar.' I chose to sit this tour out because I just couldn't see paying the price they were asking for tickets. It doens't mean I don't like Fleetwood Mac anymore, and I'll be the first in line for the EP, and if they tour again, I may go.
But to say they 'owe' us anything is just plain unhealthy.

I'm usually complaining, too, but it does not matter really after all. When I see them in concert, I'm exited, I love everything they play, find each of them endlessly interesting to watch, love how they interact and basically worship the ground they walk on.
2003 was a bad year for me, but the FM concert, when I saw them again after 13 years made it so much better.
Today was my fathers funeral and I just know that in retrospect they will make the mess that is my 2013 by now better again.
So, if it is the same old setlist - then play on.

I certainly never remember anyone saying "you're a terrible fan" or "if you hate them so much why don't you go away" in any of those discussions. But it *always* comes up in setlist and tour discussions. You might be right about the rose colored glasses though, because, I tend to not actually participate in any sort of drama, once I realize there *is* drama.
Ah yes, Cheetah Girl. That's the one. Those were fun threads to read.

and what you wrote is more-less exactly how i feel. i was really disappointed in Columbus when i learned what the setlist was. but then i heard Sad Angel... and how good Not That Funny sounded... and was terribly disappointed by barely any guitar on SOTM ... and was exhilarated by the performances with all the jumbo-tron backgrounds and the way they used those. and how good they still sound, and how happy that they are doing this they all seem, even though i really think they should change it up a bit more - especially Lindsey, should jazz up some of his guitar on SOTM and GDW for example. he looks bored out of his mind on those 2 songs... although i guess the man needs a bit of a break sometime during the show too.

I agree with most of what is said, but atleast they are still touring and sounding great. Iam only 25 and missed out on thier hey day. Isn't paying for Mick's Meet and Greet, or talking to Lindsey at a concert 'Voting With Your Dollar?' You have to pay for that kind of access, even if it is front row seast at a show.

I, personally, chose not to attend this tour because they had not (and still have not) released any new music, much less a new album. I guess that is just a quality that makes me feel invested in an artist.
I have not doubt that I missed a great show that I would have treasured. But I don't regret it at all.

The only reason for what I could write a letter to the Mac, is just to know why they never came at least once to South America.
What's the matter with us? Here's some very loyal fans!
A new album could be great, but I read your comments about what happened with the Dance tour, the Say You Will tour and Unleashed. With new songs only is enough? I really don't know...
And, "The No-Name Tour" sounds very original, really!

 well, in my experience you can pay face value for 10th or 20th row seat, and run really fast as the show is starting, to make it to the stage. ;)
i'm merely pointing out some holes in your statement that "the only way" to convey your message to the band is to not go to their shows. they will not notice whether you or i or other 100-200 huge fans are at their shows, since there are plenty of people who will go and pay, and are not even casual fans. it's pretty easy to see this during their shows, and which songs get the most aroused response. so if we are talking about voting with dollars, they will keep on touring greatest hits, since that's what gives them the biggest bang for their buck.

That's really right where I am at as well, and even then, the Denver show is still selling tickets so I could, presumably, change my mind, but probably won't. I know from past shows that this one will be great, I know I'd have fun, but I'd rather spend that concert money on another act that will be more memorable or more entertaining.

I suppose I'm not understanding the thought process here. You know it will be great and you know you will have fun. Is it the price? Are you standing on principle? Do you think anyone will notice that you are boycotting the tour because of your convictions? Why do you deprive yourself of something that you may later regret not partaking?

I know it will be great, and I know I'd have fun. But it's not an exclusive experience - it's one I've had before, so it's not new or different enough *to me* to make it worth the time or expense. The price...doesn't really bother me...I'm impulsive with money, and don't believe it has any value until it's used...so standing on principle might be a fitting description for how I feel about skipping the tour. I don't feel I'm boycotting the tour, but rather just not interested enough to actually be there in person - and no one needs to notice because it's only about me and not them. I'm just not the type to regret missing out on something, especially if it was my choice to do so. As a result, I don't feel that I'm depriving myself of anything.
Even if this is the last Fleetwood Mac tour, I'm ok with missing it. I feel like I've seen it already.
On the flip side, if the setlist had at least 9-12 songs that were never-before-performed material - either new or old - I'd feel very differently. That would be a show I could not miss. That would be a show I'd forever regret not going to.

I am mixed on going its still a maybe it really the price factor on my part cause the show is expensive and is this there last tour together too or is there another tour coming in a few more years I know they are really numbered and just don't know if it's going to be there last.I have to say I thought the unleashed tour 2009 was going to be there last. tickets are pricey at mohegan sun $150 and $175 includes fee's and everything. Most of the arena is $175
so I am like a see saw on this tour I want to go and then change my mind cause of the cost just wish there was like a cheaper seat. The economy is not great or getting an better either.

And does anyone think that would do any good?
I'm going to a M&G in May, and I am definitely going to say how I want new music. And my friends who are my age (early 20's) want new music. And that there are lots of other people who will buy new music.

I don't mind the no name tour with no album.
The Grateful Dead did that a lot - as have the Heartbreakers and Bob Dylan.
These guys just want to play (and I can promise you none of them are doing it for the money).
I assume your last sentence was in reference to The Dead, The Heartbreakers, and Dylan because the members of Fleetwood Mac are pretty damn mercenary when it comes to performing. If big money were not in the equation the band would not tour. As a band. This doesn't apply to some of the solo activity and side projects.
Nostalgia can be great, and I think it's cool FM have introduced their (same old) music to younger fans. But 1997-98 should have marked a rebirth of the band not only as a touring entity but as recording artists who would make new, relevant music. One album since then is not cool. They're all getting old but are still pretty resilient, so I'd beg them to please make one more meaty album WITH Christine. It's the obvious thing to do.
Will they? Or will they continue to rerelease Rumours and the farts that were caught on the master tapes?

Artists of any medium need only to create, and they do that when they want to. We as a public have the right to patronize artists we choose to.
Ah... but we agree, after all. Artists need to create. When that need goes away, can they truly be called artists anymore? Can someone be called an artist who dangles a carrot to the fans and says, "You have to love this one song if you want us to give you more new music?" An artist creates for the sake of creating, not as some sort of emotional blackmail with the fans. Folks have suggested here that the current relationship between the band with its stale, washed-up offering comes down to a commercial transaction with the fans. If that's the case, they are only business people, are they not?

I was at the show in Columbus and while the setlist was not very original or fresh, I still enjoyed the show allot. I heard 4 songs I have not heard before.
What bothers me is that certain songs have become stale yet they seem intent on playing every tour. Like Big Love and I'm So Afraid were great showstoppers in their day and while Lindsey still plays the hell out of them the novelty has worn off. He needs to do something different. Same goes for Gold Dust Woman, Rhiannon, Landslide etc. The problem is people still go to the shows and in some cases they go more then one and as long as that continues the band will not change up the show.
This topic has come up on the Melissa Etheridge board where people (including me) have questioned why she won't change up her show. There are people there who fly all over the world to see her no matter what she is doing or where she is playing. How many times do you need to hear the same songs?
If anyone meets Mick at his Meet and Greets why not ask him why they won't put out a new album or change the show? If I was meeting him I would certainly bring it up in a polite way.

see i completely disagree with what you are saying about Big Love and So Afraid. they ARE showstoppers, not they were. especially on this tour, where the effect of his playing is augmented with those jumbotrons. it works really really well! read any review from any of their shows so far. look behind you at the see of people and standing Os. and ISA is actually different almost every tour (although his stage moves are the same :p:D). these 2 songs are absolute showstoppers and he has to do them.
same with Landslide, the whole audience sings that one, she doesn't even have to sing it, it's like a Rod Stewart singalong.
i do agree that Gold Dust Woman, although definitely a must in the set, is very stale the way they do it. they can easily cut the last 3-4 minutes of pure boredom, musically. and Lindsey should jazz it up like he did at the European leg of Unleashed. he also needs to jazz back up SOTM, a lot.

I certainly can understand why people still enjoy the FM shows. They are a great band, after all. I've just never really enjoyed live performances as much as a well-produced, nicely crafted studio song, which is why I hardly ever listen to live albums. I used to love going to shows but just find them a big hassle now. And if all a band has to offer is the same setlist for 16 years, with a couple of minor tweaks, it simply doesn't interest me.
My favorite band, aside from FM and Lindsey, plays without a setlist. Whatever the lead singer calls out is what they play next. When I buy a ticket to a show, I know I am going to get something different from all the other shows I have seen. And that's a show still worth going to.

Philly was sold out, and you could get tickets at the box office couple of hours before the show.
Does that mean the shows really aren't sold out then?
did you get your ticket or are you waiting to the night of the show to see if they release any seats at the last minute.
I never know until the day of a show if I am going or not. Last time I didn't find out until just a few hours before showtime. LOL
