@ south by south west. Attended the documentary screening, was great, a little bummed that only one question was allowed. I was all set to ask her if she would ever release a collection of the piano demos and about remastered, expanded solo albums. Anyway, @ the interview in the convention center now, shes still talking as I type.. She was talking about getting ready for the tour and said "you're the first to hear this, but we're doing SISTERS OF THE MOON"...!!!
Also mentioned they're working on 24 songs in the set right now. Exciting news! Back to the interview. More to come later!

that's great news.
working on 24 is disappointing, that means they'll be down to 22 by the time tour starts. if they stay at 24 that's a bit better but still not 26. :distress:

SOTM! This is a coup. Fans have wanted this for years and the fact that FM knows this is how it came to be in the setlist. Very excited to hear it.
And be prepared for it to not sound fantastic at first. As the tour goes on, I'm sure it will become phenomenal.
Thanks so much for the report.

Not necessarily...24 could be their goal number, and they're currently working on 30ish to find the "right" 24 to bring to Columbus.

Agreed. I may have to break my word and go see this tour now.

Storms definitely got better as the Unleashed tour progressed & Stevie figured out how to best perform the song live. But when I saw the Mac during the Say You Will tour, the newly rocking version of Silvers Springs got progressively worse as Stevie's voice wore down from the extensive touring. So it really could go either way. It'll be interesting to see how Sisters has evolved since it's heyday. It'll be a different animal for sure, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing at all. :D

i like your optimistic view much better than my realistic/pessimistic one. :D
maybe they pleasantly surprise us and if they are working on 30 songs with a goal of 24 they can't decide which ones to weed out and so try out 26 in Columbus!? :p

Was right behind the last girl in line who got to ask a question. Teenager who saw me headed for the line and sped up and basically cut in front of me. Verry annoying. And such dumb questions. Oy. I was so ready to ask about remasters, and if she had ever put any thought into releasing a piano demo collection. For the next time I'm in a small room w Stevie Nicks, I guess.. Oh wait..

That's awesome. I wonder how the 2013 version will sound. Hopefully, it won't get dropped by the fourth show. It's funny. My first reaction to this news was, "It'd better not be like "Smile at You" was to Say You Will, limp."

Bugger, I mentioned on another thread that this is the one song I'd love to see them do live again and I haven't got a ticket for this tour:distress:
Still I'm glad others will get to see it. This was the highlight of the Mirage tour video for me, hope they film a show for a DVD release.

well, i don't remember about Smile at You since SYW version was so blah i mostly skipped it, but SOTM has some great guitar parts which i'm sure won't disappoint!! :]
Lets all remember we are talking a 65 year old Nicks not a 35 year old. It will be and should be taken based on her current range and energy. I think Lindsey's guitar will be amazing and will exceed our expectations. I Can't Wait.

I'm laughing already because I know you guys are going to accuse Lindsey of screaming his velvet line or something. You'll be saying he was Taylor Swifting Stevie.
I'm amused in anticipation, because even though Lindsey loves to whisper, he probably won't for some unknown reason. He'll be wrapping her and wondering if anyone knows her name loudly or strangely. I can imagine the stuff I'll be reading about it already.

Right with ya there. And I love the song itself, don't get all the hate. Its one of the most perfect songs on SYW imo. Lindsey is hands down the perfect producer for Stevie. He "gets" her. He gets what she's going for, be it mystical, dark, old fashioned rock n roll. Smile At You is one of his most interesting, beautiful arrangements of a Stevie song, ecspecially on SYW.

Not alone Steve....it was brilliant bass work from John and a definite highlight of Say You Will and stands up to any of the consistently stellar work this man has brought to the band. I also thought Stevie did a great job of the vocal, I was glad to hear that she didn't change the key...(here). No pun intended.

Am I the only one here with high hopes for this tour?! Not high expectations but a great feeling. After the incredible past "3 years " the members have been having...I think they are in an awesome place to deliver a steller tour. And seeng Stevie's recents sets with sound city players I know she has the goods left to crush Sisters of the Moon...not mirage era but I was 2 then! I can't wait to see the staples too as this will only be my second Mac show (say you will tour)! And with 13th row seats this promises to be a great moment for me!!

I'm excited, for me it'll be my first chance to see them so even a tried and true set list would be nice as long as their hearts were in it. What I dread is half-hearted performances that bespeak rushed rehearsals and BTS hostilities.

This is either going to be absolutely amazing, and produce a load of "why the hell did they ever take it out of their set in the first place?!" posts.
Or it's gonna suck. I'm hoping for the former, I can totally picture Stevie rocking it even with her modern voice.

I think Sisters Of The Moon is going to evolve in the vein that Gold Dust Woman evolved. Gold Dust Woman is far more vocally chaste & restrained these days, but it's still a highlight of any Mac/Stevie show. The delivery of the song is totally different each tour, but the impact doesn't change. It's still dark, dramatic, atmospheric, & spooky. I love every iteration of Gold Dust Woman, and I expect to feel the same way about Sisters Of The Moon.

I'm totally with you on that. The weird thing is, that people over here blame Lindsey for ruining SMile At You. I don't understand that. He chose for a light- dense guitararrangement, with lots of room for basslines. And they KILL. ofcourse that's all Johns achievement, but It's the arranger that let him have his Spotlight. I think the whole approach adds to the song. If it sounds colder than the pianodemo, then that is due to production, playing AND singing. She doesn't sing it as heartfelt as twenty years before. And the production and arrangement fits to what it is at that moment.

I agree with those who feel there's no way shell drop it. She never drops the special songs she either does for the first time or not in a REALLY long time. Just think back to the Say You Will tour. Literally 6 of her songs were dropped at one point in that tour but Beautiful Child never left because she went to all the trouble pulling that out. she even dropped Gypsy before it.

So then likely so far we have pretty much confirmed and or 100% likely;
The Chain
Dreams
Rhiannon
Tusk
Big Love
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
I'm So Afraid
Go Your Own Way
Sisters Of The Moon
Don't Stop
Silver Springs
I'm sure there are a few others that are likely, but hell we're getting Sisters, I'd say a few more odd things could happen? *shrugs* Also, more importantly, does that mean my hopes are true and World Turning will be missing?! Please God..... AND since Mick needs his solo *eye roll* maybe that means Not That Funny will be back?

The Mac Is Ready to Get Back (On The Road): “I’m in rehearsals with them now. We go from ‘Go Your Own Way’ to ‘Sara’ to ‘Never Going Back…’ to ‘Landslide.’ This time we’re actually doing ‘Sister of the Moon,’ which we haven’t done since 1979 or 1980. And it’s dark; (sings) ‘Intense silence as you walk in the room,’ and people are like, ‘What does that mean?’ That’s me talking to me, talking to my alter ego and the person that’s having a hard time being a rock star…Twenty-four songs is what we’re doing. I’m sitting there looking at the board going, ‘Oh my God, we’re only halfway through. We have 12 songs to go and we’ve been playing for six hours!’"

Sara and SOTM are both pretty long songs too. They probably take up the length of 3.5-4 average songs. So, I'm sure they will bring down the total number of songs played a bit. But it will give us something to sink our teeth into ;).
There's nothing worse than a song ending just when you're getting into it, right?

This again? Really? :distress::rolleyes:
And I'm also not a Stevie fan and here's my comment. Sara is boring, rambling, way too long song that should not be played in an FM set. I would rather hear two or three other songs that don't put me to sleep, even if they are other Stevie songs. There isn't even any really good guitar parts to redeem it. However, I am excited for SOTM, but only for the guitar.
I love you.

i comment on issues and things i care about. saying that i commented, as a woman, on a woman's issue i care deeply about just so i can upset someone is pure bs, and if people cannot see that i cannot help them with that.
yes there are many people here purely to stir the pot and that has its merits on entertainment boards (a lot! it's an entertainment, we can't be all serious about it all the time!). it also has merits in prompting people to look at different side of things, in some cases.
in this instance, i was not trying to stir the pot, i was just stating my very strong opinion about the issue i care about... giving you in the process the reason [people seem to keep asking me about] why i get annoyed with SN as a person. there were many times over the last 3 years when i saw similar issue pop up and i didn't say anything, out of the respect for some of my good friends who like SN. i wasn't going to say anything this time around, even though i saw that RS title and it irked me (i even googled SN and feminism!), but then someone posted the whole thread on it, titled similarly to that RS article, and i just couldn't resist posting a small comment expressing my disagreement. it snowballed from there with some very uncalled for responses which i mostly ignored, and some very civilized discussion from several others.
you all are saying i shouldn't comment what you all don't want to read. isn't something inherently wrong with that argument? free country, first amendment, etc? this is a public board. i'm speaking very generally now - if a public person says something, don't we have a right to call them on it if we don't agree?
there were some really good posts last night in that thread.... there's a lot of just piling on just now it seems from what i can see glancing through, mainly chiffon-blinders-wearing posts, showing me the door of the forum since i dared to disagree (as you AGAIN just tried here!), and not giving any substantial thoughts. i've said there what i had to say, and so i have no reason to go back there anymore. if you don't like what's there, you don't have to read it.
ok i'm now once and for all done with this subject. if someone wants to discuss this with me more feel free to PM me.

Exactly...I'm certain it will be extraordinary but in an entirely new way. I know the spirit of the song will still shine through!
That's the best way to look at it! Stevie hasn't performed the song in more than thirty years. It would be unfair to compare it to performances from so long ago.
I'm wishing that this signals a radical change in the set list. I hope this isn't just the one token, unexpected song. It would so sweet if they dig deep and perform some Buckingham/Nicks songs, as well as never/rarely performed songs.
It would be great if half, if not two thirds of the set list not be the same old same old. If they open with The Chain followed by Dreams, it will be sadly disappointing. When they first began performing The Chain in 1977, it was near the end of the set. It should go back there again.

It would be great if half, if not two thirds of the set list not be the same old same old. If they open with The Chain followed by Dreams, it will be sadly disappointing.

everybody's been right - they are just old conservative playing-it-safe-even-if-it-doesn't-sound-good and probably lying-about-doing-bunch-of-deep-cuts-and-new-songs band.
by bunch of deep cuts they probably mean SOTM. we know they don't really know anything about numbers - 1...6... it's all "many". :p

To my ears, "Sara" is one of the most sublime pop songs ever committed to tape, and Stevie's vocals on the recent live versions bring it to yet another level. I'm happy it's still in the setlist. I'm also thrilled for the long-awaited return of "Sisters Of The Moon." Would be outstanding if "Angel" found its way into the set too.

In terms of songs with Stevie on lead vocal or lead duet vocal, the only ones from the 1975-87 era that haven't been done live with Fleetwood Mac are "I Don't Want To Know", "That's Alright", "Straight Back", "Welcome To The Room...Sara", and "When I See You Again". I'd be more excited if they were doing one of these (except "When I See You Again") than SOTM. I guess a case could also be made for "Fireflies", but I always think of that as a live since it was on "Fleetwood Mac Live".

Couldn't agree more:thumbsup:
I love Smile At You, definitely in my top 3 on SYW. Love the arrangement, beautiful heartfelt vocals, exquisite guitar playing and sublime bass playing - perfection!

Absolutely true. SOTM is too atmospheric a song to introduce first. They need to just launch into it and let it take hold of the audience. But for IDWTK, I think they should give a little background on it, going all the way back to BN. That would be great. It would be as fun as the Gyspy intro Stevie was doing before.
Also, since Rumours is already out, it's too late for that, but I think it would have been fun if they tried to promote the re-issue by going on a few talk shows and performing IDWTK, the forgotten nugget from that classic.

I also wouldn't put it past Stevie to say she's gonna perform SOTM just to sell more tickets only to later tell a reporter she couldn't keep up with the energy level. However in this case I really do believe that she is gonna perform this song on this tour.

I think she's committed to the song, too. You know how Stevie loves the number 3. This will be her third Tusk song that's be recently unearthed. Beautiful Child in 2003, Storms in 2009 and now Sisters in 2013. It all makes perfect sense.

The gap for "Sara" was 18 years - 1986 to 2004. There was some hear'say that she did it once on the BTM tour, but nobody has ever been able to confirm it.
I would actually DIE if "Sara", "Sisters of the Moon" and "Angel" were ALL in the set. I. WOULD. DIE.
Having said that, the 04 and 09 versions of "Sara" kind of bored me. It's my favourite song of all time (my favourite live version is the 81 HBO special version), but the recent performers have been kind of lacking, apart from Soundstage.

No, it's 16 years; "Sara" was performed in London in 1988 (a bootleg exists). I'm not sure if this was a one-off, or whether it continued throughout the European leg of the TITN tour.
"Sara" is honestly not my favorite song live; it's one of those two-chord songs (ala "Dreams") that really requires a specific type of production that can only be rendered in the studio. When you remove all of the "haunting" effects that make the Tusk version so memorable, the somewhat banal simplicity of the song just does not hold up under the scrutiny of a basic live arrangement, especially when it goes on for 10+ minutes.

It's interesting so many people feel this way now. Ledge members pleaded SO long & hard for Sara to come back. Personally, I think 21st century Sara utterly trumps 70s/80s Sara. To me, the modern Sara fixes what made the original translate to stage so poorly. They fixed the pacing/progression of the song. To me, the older versions were just so slow & wandering. Utterly boring. But I think the modern versions are pretty fantastic. Plus, oddly enough, Stevie's current voice seems to work better for the song onstage, too.
I guess I am alone in totally despising Angel, too. Now that is a boring, wandering, anticlimactic song. I'd much rather hear Sisters Of The Moon with Beautiful Child & Sara. I wish I could add Storms to that list, but Stevie just couldn't make it work live, IMO. Stevie's voice just wasn't up for the task.

Agree completely. I can remember before the 2004 tour started how any time setlist discussions could come up, inevitably, people would be begging for Sara to be unearthed. I like "Angel", but as a concert song, it does not have a climax musically, only vocally, and I don't think Stevie can muster the throaty screaming peak of "Go track a ghost through the fog, BABY!!!" Like she did in 1980 through 83'.
Whereas "Sisters Of The Moon" has that musical climax even if Stevie does not speak in tongues. I see SOTM evolving to stage in the 21st century much like GDW has. Undoubtably it will be more subdued but meanincing and atmospheric.

Mid-tempo songs like Sara, Gypsy, Dreams, Over My Head, and others are hard songs to do, esp when trying the set the right mood and pacing of the song - not too fast yet not so slow. I do sound at my church and we have problems with mid-tempo songs very often.
They outta do like a trilogy Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, and then Sisters of the Moon or maybe Gold Dust Woman fading into Sisters of the Moon.

IMHO Storms was really hard to capture live and ended up a sort of loud monotone braying rather than the half-whispered beauty of the original. Sara is also a drone when done live, it needs a dramatic build and atmosphere which seemingly cannot be achieved live - it ends up sounding like chanting over a chugging, stuttering instrumental. Nowhere near the masterpiece of the recording. For FM, Beautiful Child is perfect live, and solo, either BATB or HAEWAFY still work marvellously.
These ballads are the reason I love Stevie.

I have low expectations for "Sisters," in that I'm not expecting a replay of a 1982 performance. But I think that she'll still do a good job and try to keep it true to her original demo. I hope she tries to sustain those long notes after the first two verses (i.e. "to me..." "of the moon..."), instead of "to me, yeah!" and "of the moon, yeah!"

I suspect it will be different from night to night. Sharon and Lori will probably do the high harmonies and Stevie will go for the note only when she feels up to it. She already does this now with "Gold Dust Woman." But I do suspect there will be some "yeahs" or some descending melisma worked in there.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up. The Mirage version was amazing, but given how long ago that was and the energy needed every show I don't think Stevie will be able to produce something similar. My hope is that she has reworked it to take account of her voice now and to allow her to perform it frequently, so that it isn't dropped before I see them in London!

I, too, am very excited to hear "Sisters," but I don't have high expectations. I expect it to be much like the modern-day "Rhiannon"—a satisfying performance but nothing spectacular.
Wouldn't it shock everyone if she took "Sisters" back to its original dark piano demo? That could be interesting......

BUT... I LOVE Sisters Of The Moon :D So I'm lucky they will perform it...
I'd be satisfied with a piano version (THEY'D HAVE TO RELEASE A LIVE RECORDING OF THAT IF THEY EVER DID THAT) as well as a version that focuses on Lindsey's guitar playing skills:]
Yes, Stevie's voice isn't as capable as it once was, but just hearing them do that song once more should be suffice! I mean, what do some people expect.. they're not trying to make another live record, they're just providing us the chance to hear them live and have a good time... So I don't think we should complain!
