What song (just one) would you take off of any album with the Rumours line up+ Say You Will?
Fleetwood Mac (1975): Sugar Daddy
Rumours: I Don't Want To Know (Silver Springs is better)
Tusk: What Makes You Think You're the One
Mirage: Empire State (why is that on there?)
Tango in the Night: When I See You Again (Stevie's vocals are too weird!)
Say You Will: Red Rover
Some may disagree with my list but whatever, everyone has an opinion, I want to know yours.

1975 White Album: Warm Ways
Rumours: I Don't Want to Know
Tusk: Not That Funny (or, frankly, most of LB's songs)
Mirage: Empire State
TITN: When I See You Again
Say You Will: Silver Girl
for the record, My Little Demon would be cut from The Dance and Fireflies would go from the 1980 Live album.

I pretty much agree except I love Warm Ways haha, i should've included The Dance and Live, and i agree with those as well. My little demon was sort've a stupid song haha.

Whereas I love Sugar Daddy! It just cheers me up because it's such a happy song, plus you get Christine laughing right towards the end.

Fleetwood Mac - Sugar Daddy
Rumours - none
Tusk - Think About Me (I like this song but have always felt it would have fitted Mirage better), Never Make Me Cry, That's Enough For Me.
Mirage - Love In Store (although like the live version), Book of Love, Wish You Were Here, Empire State. My least favourite Rumours line-up album by far.
Tango - You and I (Part 2). I know people knock Stevie's songs on this album, but given what she was going through I find them quite haunting/touching.
Say You Will - What's The World Coming To, Running Through The Garden, Silver Girl, Bleed To Love Her (already on The Dance so didn't see the need for them to include it here).

Fleetwood Mac (1975): Blue Letter
Rumours: Oh Daddy
Tusk: Not That Funny
Mirage: Empire State
Tango in the Night: Family Man
Say You Will: Silver Girl
You didn't include The Dance... "My Little Demon"

Say You Will - What's The World Coming To, Running Through The Garden, Silver Girl, Bleed To Love Her (already on The Dance so didn't see the need for them to include it here).
I think the SYW version of Bleed to Love Her is better than The Dance one because the harmonies are so layered and lovely. It was the last one where you hear the three Rumours lineup singers harmonising and it's special because of that. (I'm never clear on Steal Your Heart Away whether Christine is singing on that, or just playing keyboards.)

White Album - Warm Ways (or Sugar Daddy, either way really)
Rumours - Oh Daddy
Tusk - Honey Hi
Mirage - This was harder than I thought... but probably either Empire State or Only Over You
Tango - Family Man
Say You Will - Miranda

Fleetwood Mac (1975): Sugar Daddy (cheesy)
Rumours: Don't Stop (super cheesy)
Tusk: What Makes You Think You're the One (OBNOXIOUS)
Mirage: Empire State (awful)
Tango in the Night: None (though Joan Of Arc would have been a better choice than When I See You Again)
Say You Will: Say Goodbye (the weird speediness kills it; the live version is gorgeous, though)

Fleetwood Mac: Warm Ways - puts me to sleep
Rumours: NONE
Tusk: Save Me a Place - too draggy
Live: One More Night - how do I not remember this song?
Mirage: Empire State, Only Over You, Oh Diane and maybe Straight Back
Tango in the Night: Caroli-ine-ine-ine - gets on my nerves, Mystified - at times I'm mystified at this song, Family Man reminds me of Popeye, Isn't It Midnight
The Dance: My Little Demon - bores me and I hate the beginning sound effects, it would have been better as just an instrumental but I do get a kick out of watching them perform it on The Dance
Say You Will: Murrow Turning Over, Silver Girl, Say Goodbye - I hate this version, prefer the live.
Live in Boston: Come, replaced with Gypsy or The Chain

If you can do that then I want to take off Silver Girl, Goodbye Baby and Running Through the Garden.
Lol. Why is it even when the thread says you can pick only one do people always seem to pick three or four? ;)
In that case, most of SYW and Mirage would have been culled by me.

1975--sorry, like it just the way it is.
Rumours -- although I like "I Don't Want To Know"...I would put "Silver Springs" on instead. (even thought it wouldn't fit an LPs running time)
Tusk -- oh don't get me started...suffice it to say I'd trim this sucker down to a single album.
Mirage -- would've tried to convince them to not even release this one...just release "Gypsy" as the single with "Hold Me" as the B-side and let it go at that. Well, being that it was their first NEW album of the CD age, release a 4 song CD single: "Gypsy", "Hold Me", "Eyes Of The World", "Wish You Were Here"
Tango -- Dump that piece of dog feces called "Welcome To The Room...Sara" and replace it with "Book Of Miracles", but make Stevie finish it so it ended up as "Juliet".

I can't really pick any to eliminate.

Well, being that it was their first NEW album of the CD age, release a 4 song CD single: "Gypsy", "Hold Me", "Eyes Of The World", "Wish You Were Here"
This is an interesting concept. How about two 12" Singles, one for Gypsy and one for Hold Me, each with two b-sides?
Gypsy, with Eyes of the World and Wish You Were Here
Hold Me, with That's Alright and Teen Beat
I wish FM had utilized the 12" Single and E.P formats with habitual frequency.

White: "Warm Ways"
Rumours: none
Tusk: "Never Make Me Cry"
Mirage: "Wish You Were Here"
Tango: "Family Man" or "Welcome to the Room...", it's SO hard to decide.
The Dance: "Sweet Girl"
Say You Will: "What's the World Coming To"
I like Christine McVie a lot more than this post makes it seem. I just like her rootsy stuff more than the sleeker pop. Stevie Nicks basically didn't do a single thing wrong for me until Tango (when it comes to Mac records).
People, I must terribly say, that WE'RE SO CRUEL!!!!! Hehehehe
My list:
- Fleetwood Mac: Sugar Daddy, definitely
- Rumours: I don't want to know and Oh Daddy (please!)
- Tusk: Storms, That's enough for me, Never make me cry, Honey Hi
- Live: Never going back again, Landslide, Fireflies, One more night, The Farmer's Daughter
- Mirage: NONE
- Tango In The Night: None, I suppose...
- The Dance (CD version): I change Big Love, Go Insane, Landslide and Say You Love Me for Gold Dust Woman, Gypsy, Over My Head and Songbird.
- Say You Will: None

White album - Sugar Daddy.
What an utterly utterly appalling song. Embarrassingly woeful.
Rumours - Oh Daddy.
Easily the weakest song on the album. Also I would move Songbird to the end, or near it. The contrast between that and Go Your Own Way before it is too much, and almost kills the flow of the record halfway through.
Tusk - Nothing.
My favourite Mac album, I've listened to it so much I probably couldn't drop anything on it. Sure there are songs I'd probably skip depending on my mood on a particular day, but nevermind.
Mirage - Only Over You.
Never liked this song. The opening vocals are enough to annoy me. Also Empire State, that sounds like it should really have been on Law and Order instead of a Mac record....
Tango in the Night - Welcome to the Room...Sara
The song title alone sums up the whole song. Utterly appalling and devoid of imagination. When I See You Again is also quite poor. Family Man only survives because of the nice guitar work on it. And also because those 2 Stevie songs are far worse.
Say You Will - Silver Girl. I actually like the melody to this song. But the lyrics are just terrible. Yes, even worse than the lyrics to Family Man.
I'm not even going to attempt to comment on their live albums. There are so so much songs they could have released/performed instead of what we have, especially on the Live 1980 album. Personally I would rather a whole new Live album from that era released, instead of any more remasters.

Warm Ways, Oh Daddy, and Only Over You are some of my all time favourite songs. To me, most of Lindsey's contributions are the disposables from the FM catalogue. He really should have stuck to singing backup and producing what the girls did.

Ha ha :D
I am more inclined toward Christine and Stevie's material. I have tried and tried to like the bulk of Lindsey's 'Tusk' songs, for example, but I just don't get them. That said, when he is on form, I think he is incomparable: Go Your Own Way, I'm So Afraid, Caroline and Tango in the Night are, for me, pretty sublime.

Fleetwood Mac: "Warm Ways." It's pretty, but ZZZZZZZzzzzzz.
Rumours: None. I like some more than others, but I can't imagine this album without each of these songs. And, yes, that includes IDWTK over "Silver Springs."
Tusk: None. I love it as is.
Live: "One More Night." One of two Christine songs I hate.
Mirage: "Only Over You." The other Christine song I hate. I'd toss "Empire State" too.
Tango: I'd drop "When I See You Again" and "Welcome to the Room...Sara," and swap "You and I, Part I" for "Your and I, Part II".
The Dance: I liked all the new songs, but would have added "Gold Dust Woman" to the CD.
SYW: "Silver Girl."

Fleetwood Mac - Crystal. We already had the song recorded and although it's a different time signature I would have preferred another Stevie song instead with her lead vocal on it.
Rumours - I love I Don't Want To Know so I'd go with Oh Daddy because it's the only song I despise. Would have put Silver Springs instead. I also agree with moving Songbird to the last track and have Silver Springs go after Go Your Own Way.
Tusk - I agree with don't get me started. I'd trim this down to one album immediately.
Live albums I won't comment on.
Mirage - I regret to admit that I don't know this album as a whole too well.
Tango In The Night - None but if I had to, I would cut When I See You Again and replace it with the FM version of Juliet.
Greatest Hits - As Long As You Follow and replace it with Seven Wonders which really was a hit. I also would have released No Questions Asked as the lead single.
Very Best Of - since there was no new music, I won't cheat by cutting one.
Say You Will - any track from Lindsey except Miranda, What's The World Coming To?, and Peacekeeper and replace it with Not Make Believe.

Sugar Daddy's amazing. A great blues performance, sung and played with a lot of spirit. One of my favorite Mac songs period. Same goes for Oh Daddy. I don't know why so many people are hostile towards these songs--unless they are just predisposed to Stevie and Lindsey's material.
Let me reiterate: Sugar Daddy is awesome. Oh Daddy is amazing.
We're all entitled to our opinions and I felt it necessary to register mine here to balance things.

when i see brilliant songs such as Red Rover, Murrow or Come (not to even mention What Makes You Think You're The One which i LOVE) on the list of things people want to cut i realize over and over again how wide the range of FM music is, and how disparate the musical tastes of their fans are.

People who dislike Oh Daddy and Sugar Daddy can be great fans of her other songs, just not those. I think those songs stink, but I think the world of Over My Head, SYLM, Only Over You, Think About Me, Wish You Were Here and on and on. I don't know why you'd read an SnL bias into disliking those daddy songs. It's like saying people who hate Warm Ways probably are predisposed to cashmere.

and I see how desperate the musical tastes of their fans are.

Thinking of what Aleuzzi and Elle were saying, I would add that while you'd expect to get different sounding songs from different singers and songwriters, I think there's a lot of variety if you break the song catalogs down by individual as well. I think all of them have a wide spectrum of sounds, as opposed to someone like Chris Isaak, whom I love, but he just has too many songs that sound alike for me. I feel if I have 10 of his songs, I have everything he has ever done and can do and I don't feel that way about the Macsters.
I was thinking of Sugar Daddy and saying to myself that it would have fit perfectly on IMT next to Anything is Possible or Bad Journey . Yet, Meantime also boasts Calumny which is a complete departure from those songs, I think. And this is true of Lindsey and Stevie's repertoires as well.
We have a nice range of diversity just from each of the artists, separately.

why desperate?
Because some of the songs that some of us love really sound HORRIBLE to others, giving rise to much wonder and head-scratching.
Michele

yes i realized that about Lindsey when i first started looking into his music, and at first it was too wide of a range for my taste and i listened to just certain stuff but couldn't stand others on the other end of the spectrum... but i learned to appreciate it. (well, most of it. still just say no to Say Goodbye :p)
and i was just thinking the same about Christine's material the other day. how different her songs on Tusk are from her songs on Tango, for example.
so definitely agree, each of the 3 songwriters has a very wide (and yes, sometimes disparate lol!) range of material.

For what it's worth I love "Sugar Daddy" and simply adore "Oh Daddy", the latter is just haunting and spooky and so atmospheric to me. And the former is pure simple fun, I see it as the cousin to "Blue Letter" on that record. Those two remind me of living in California.
Christine's slower ballads tend to give me problems, not "Songbird" or "Mystified", but most of the others. "Warm Ways", "Brown Eyes", "Never Make Me Cry", "Only Over You", "Wish You Were Here". As for Lindsey I like quirkier things like "Murrow" or "Red Rover" more than middle of the road "What's the World Coming To", that song's a brand of sweet sounding straight pop that I think Christine does better. Though some of his Tusk songs give me problems ("Save Me a Place" and "Walk a Thin Line") so nobody hits a home run every time.
Of course I'm not trying to proselytize though :) To each their own, I just think it's fun to talk about.

yup. i kinda feel similar re Christine's slower songs vs her pop stuff.
re Lindsey i love a lot of what you call his quirkier stuff - love both Murrow and Rover - and cannot stand What's The World Coming To, so we agree there too. i consider Second Hand News an example of his perfect pop song, not What's The World.
i'm surprised about your view on SMAP and WATL though. many people seem to love one and hate the other. i'm in the "love WATL" but bored to tears with SMAP camp, but many of my LB-loving friends are all for SMAP whereas WATL is just growing on them after he did it in Chicago.
i feel validated by Mick loving WATL though.
and i have to say that out of 2 versions on Tusk deluxe reissue, i like the faster demo version with "please toe the line" in it much much better.

"Warm Ways", "Brown Eyes", "Never Make Me Cry",
I have a BIG problem with those. Snooze.
As for Lindsey I like quirkier things
I like quirky Lindsey like The Ledge, Time Bomb Town, Wrong, GOS. I also like commercial, pop Lindsey like Trouble and, the lesser, Did You Miss Me, but no, I don't like songs like WTWCT or Peacekeeper. I don't know what category they fall into. I just am not into them. Also some of the ballads can make me weary, like Time Precious Time. Maybe he's doing some intricate, tinkly guitar playing during that song, but yikes. The way it was placed on GOS right after Great Day, bringing that album to a screeching halt, I had to wear a neck brace for the whiplash.

Elle,
Have you heard Mick's version of WATL from The Visitor? People like it.
Now, my favorite song on a Mick album is Lindsey's I Want You Back. Yowza. Like a dog without a home!

i can't stand that side of commercial pop middle of the road snooze fest pop Lindsey like Trouble and Did You Miss Me.
however lift-me-up (while words if there are any really there are kinda dark) perfect pop Lindsey like Second Hand News, Monday Morning or The Right Place To Fade = very Lindsey but also very pop perfection.
and you know i'm in complete agreement about TPT - gorgeous guitar, but that was his "my-hooks-need-to-be-grating-and-suck" period.

yeah i like it much less than either Tusk version, i actually dislike it. but Deerhunter version is really the only one that does WATL justice.

yup. i kinda feel similar re Christine's slower songs vs her pop stuff. Some of her pop stuff I can take or leave too, like "Hold Me" and "Love In Store". On the other hand I love "Little Lies" and "Think About Me", so it just depends. "Everywhere" is the one that really frustrates me, I think I could love it if the production was more earthy. I hate the windchime thing, and the harmonies in the chorus are too layered for me (at least I think those are overdubbed harmonies?).
re Lindsey i love a lot of what you call his quirkier stuff - love both Murrow and Rover - and cannot stand What's The World Coming To, so we agree there too. i consider Second Hand News an example of his perfect pop song, not What's The World. And "Go Your Own Way", though that can fit as a rock song instead of a pop song too (personally I think it's all some degree of pop in the end anyway). Anyway cliched addition, but cliched for a reason, it's still my favorite Mac song even if it's obvious. It's just tremendous.
i'm surprised about your view on SMAP and WATL though. many people seem to love one and hate the other.Oh really, that's interesting. The first time I heard Tusk all the way through I lumped "Save Me a Place", "Walk a Thin Line" and "That's All For Everyone" into the same mental category and thought I'd just never get them, but also that 6/9 wasn't bad. Now I've come around to "That's All" and love its weird spaciness, but the other two remain more or less equally lukewarm to me. They both seem to share a moderate tempo and prominent strumming, and a somewhat sad mood. I do like the lyrics to "Walk a Thin Line" a lot.
I like "Peacekeeper" more than "What's the World Coming To" but not as much as I wanted to. It has some cool lines, but it feels kind of derivative of the pop genius he's proven capable of. I'd call them mainstream pop rock, just not gems of the genre.
Some of Lindsey's songs do seem more fun to play than to listen to.
ETA: I also love "Holiday Road" and think it's great Lindsey pop. Don't shoot me.

^Yes, I like the WATL lyrics a lot more than I like the music.
I like most of Christine's uptempo songs and I wish that her later ones (Heart of Stone, Save Me and BTM) had come out during the Rumours era. The only thing I have against YMLF is that of her popular, fast songs, it's my least favorite, but it seems to be FM's favorite. And I just get a little miffed at having to hear so much of it. If I didn't hear it so much, I would like it more.
Hold Me I put in a category all of its own. Top 5 FM song for me.
Michele

it's all great just has to be in the right tempo and arrangement. which it is NOT on Tusk. he can do much better. and i wanna hear how good he can do with that great of a material.

Nope, you're not alone. Two of my favorites..especially Peacekeeper. But I do like Miranda too, and Red Rover is in my top three LB songs, ever. I wanted him to play that so much on his solo tour. He plays an instrumental version of both Red Rover, and Peacekeeper, that play before his shows. They're absolutely gorgeous!

When I got SYW, I wanted to listen to just Miranda, EFO and Thrown Down on a loop. Just those 3. I did for a couple of days, but then I stopped myself, so as not to burn out. I had to have a rule that I had to listen to the album as a whole.
18 or nothing baby.
Very much into Miranda.

Fleetwood Mac: Sugar Daddy (I like this song but still my least favorite)
Rumours: I would say nothing, but gun to my head...Songbird. I know I’ll get stoned for this. It is a beautiful and lovely song, but my least favorite on the album.
Tusk: That’s Enough For Me (only song on Tusk I don't like)

White Album: Love it as is, but would love to re-write history where the band records a killer version of Sorcerer right before I'm so Afraid.
Rumours: Would've squeezed Silver Springs in there somehow. Rest as is.
Tusk: Trim down two Lindsey tracks and polish up Beauty and the Beast, if had to choose, What Makes You Think and That's all for Everyone.
Mirage: Only Over You, one of the few Christine songs I could do without, add If you were My Love.
Tango: Sorry, all three of Stevie's embarrassing contributions.
Behind the Mask: Don't listen to this one enough to comment.
Time: As Above
Live '80: take away the new songs and add the Chain, Gold Dust Woman and World Turning.
Say You Will: Murrow doesn't fit and Silver Girl, rest is pretty good.

Fleetwood Mac - Sugar Daddy
Rumours - (only cause I have to eliminate one) Oh Daddy
Tusk - That's Enough For me (hate the yeah yeah yeah)
Mirage - Oh Diane (hate it, though I like the quick musical break)
Tango - When I see you again (by a LANDSLIDE)
The Dance - (basing this on new songs) Temporary One (though I like it)
Say You Will - (wanted to love this album but haven't listened to it in years...) Peacekeeper (I was embarrassed by what a Kodachrome ripoff it was...I cringed every time I heard it)
