Grohl and the Sound City Players, along with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, will make their network television debut on the February 14th episode of The Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman has never hid his love for Grohl’s music even recruiting the Foo Fighters to play Everlong on his first show back after heart surgery, referring to it as “my favorite band playing my favorite song.

My guess is maybe "Stop Draggin..." as it is relatively well-known, and will feature both Stevie and Dave singing.

That's why this tour is different. Instead of Stevie not being present in the studio, Stevie won't even be present in rehearsals this time around! ;) But maybe the show won't seem so rehearsed and robotic.

This is the performance that I am talking about. I remember it well, IYD was finished and a perfect time to promote the new single before the CD came out and instead she performs Stand Back (again) . After 10 years of waiting you would think that she would want to promote her new CD and not a song that came out on 1983! Just say'n :sorry:

It would be pointless to bring all of the Sound City players to Letterman for a song that would mostly be just her and Dave. I really don't even think Landslide is a possibility.

It will have to be a performance of "You Can't Fix This", it wouldn't make sense to do anything but this track. Let's just hope she has given the lyrics a last minute overhaul and that she doesn't wear those horrific sunglasses. She'll be in a studio and properly lit so there's no excuse for the shades.

I doubt the lyrics will be changed considering they've already recorded this song in the studio.

And I'm not sure, and this is all hypothetical, but I think the reason she is wearing the glasses on stage lately is because at some shows she uses a teleprompter for lyrics - her vision may have worsened in the past few years making it more difficult to read without them.

Either that or she just likes the glasses. She was wearing them indoors at parties and stuff too.

That band def rings her bell....seeing her with them is like seeing a whole different, revived Stevie, even when she isn't feeling 100%. That Krist Novoselic is a kick ass bass player! At last nights Hammerstein show there were 3 diff drummers including dave Grohl all of which were equally as powerful! I hate to say this but Stevie needs to change it up a bit with her touring band.

My guess is she's using them as a way to mask signs of aging.

Maybe it's because of her eye issue.

Stevie Nicks’ “Sorrowful Disease”

The queen of rock ‘n’ roll, Stevie Nicks, has a medical problem that's making her feel less than majestic.
“Why is my one eye always watering?” Stevie asks. “I call it ‘the sorrowful disease,’ because people always ask me if I’m sad.

“It’s bugging me to death!” she adds.

Dr. Lisa explains that tearing is a normal bodily function. Every time you blink, you wash your eyes out with tears produced by the lachrymal glands in your upper eyelids.

Excessive tearing may signal underlying health conditions such as dry-eye syndrome, allergies or a blocked tear duct.
Dr. Lisa recommends that Stevie check with her optometrist, and shares tips for relieving symptoms:
• Use artificial tears or over-the-counter eye drops to lubricate dry eyes.
• Increase humidity in your home with a humidifier or by boiling a pot of water.
• Drink plenty of water to maintain healthy tearing.

Anyone catch what Letterman said to her after about the Rhiannon similarity? At first I thought he was comparing the backing track of YCFT to Rhiannon..like how we compared it to bits of GDW and SDMHA. But then Stevie replied with "yeah 17 min" and everyone laughed.

I think, as Stevie fans, we've become enured to this whole "Sound City" project and the strange bedfellows she has been working with recently; it's like the new normal. But when you take a few steps back from what she's been doing... it is beyond surreal. If someone said ten years ago that Stevie would be recording and touring with the Foo Fighters in 2013, I would have laughed it off as one of those ain't ever gonna happen things. And she is like Switzerland in the Dave Grohl vs. Courtney Love war. Twenty years ago I would have never connected the dots between Nirvana and Stevie. How weird is all of this??

thank you!

i've been reading comments here and thinking along very similar lines.

the whole Sound City project is practically one big avertisement for specifically FM, BN, Rick Springfield and Nirvana (not that Nirvana needs it!) and is bringing great attention to FM and SN. whatever your opinion of him, Dave Grohl is still relevant and well known. when in the movie someone said that Nevermind making it big was like Fleetwood Mac all over again, that sounded so good, as a great complement to FM!

so i don't get these "Stevie is so supportive of Grohl and the whole project" comments - why wouldn't she be - it's bringing her, BN and FM to at least some new audiences. Grohl talked yesterday on Letterman about Stevie and Lindsey joining the Mac and when he mentioned FM people were cheering. it's basically Grohl supporting SN and FM, not the other way around (although sure, it works both ways). this is a great advertisement for an upcoming FM tour.

and, if FM finally releases some of those new tracks before the start of the tour, they may be able to get Letterman appearance too.

That's my Stevie!! Very proud of her.

I noticed that too. Very confident. Loved it & made me feel this song finally!

I'm glad Stevie had a blast when she was under the weather.

One problem was the overdriven guitars were over riding her voice and it was hard to hear her voice.

I enjoyed Dave G's interview.I agree what he said about today' s recordings with the artists using Autotune. Its not real.

Personally Its like athletes using steroids.

This was a great performance. She looked and sounded amazing, and seemed to really be having a food time. I agre with those who said she looked comfortable and not as nervous as she tends to seem in televised performances.

Fantastic. Hope this sort of energy carries Over to the tour.

I think Stevie - and the planets of the universe - have aligned exactly where they are supposed to be and allowed her to find her true self again.

She needed to get back to her rock roots and just have fun making music again. Her incredible confidence on stage might be a reflection of this new, rejuvenated, creativity spurt.

so i don't get these "Stevie is so supportive of Grohl and the whole project" comments - why wouldn't she be - it's bringing her, BN and FM to at least some new audiences. Grohl talked yesterday on Letterman about Stevie and Lindsey joining the Mac and when he mentioned FM people were cheering. it's basically Grohl supporting SN and FM, not the other way around (although sure, it works both ways). this is a great advertisement for an upcoming FM tour.

I heard David Grohl on a podcast (I think the host was Marc Maron) and he talked extensively about Buckingham Nicks on that show. And you know that I am into the Grizzly Bear Egg Cafe and to them (Mike Quackenbush and Clayton Morris) the emphasis Grohl's Sound City put on Buckingham Nicks was very important. They talked about it in their podcast. So, this has all been good publicity for Fleetwood Mac in general.

In fact, everything is converging (Christine talk, etc.) to keep FM constantly in the news for one reason or another. Hope they ride this train right into the tour.

Stevie was urgently in need of a strong TV performance. Many of her IYD (& TISL for that matter) TV performances fell flat (except EO17 on America's Got Talent) but that was an oldie. Stevie never sold "Secret Love", and FWIW, while a great song, just came off too nice, not wow, what was that! And I'm not even 100% in love with YCFT, but Stevie sold it to me last night!

After watching last night, it became more clear that Stevie would serve herself better if she did more rockers to sell herself & her music. The "Secret Love's" & "Everyday's" need to stay in the background. And while she's at it, she may want to consider getting a younger & tighter rock band. I loved when Waddy came back for TISL after being gone for 15 years, but I'm beginning to think Stevie should consider getting a new band & band director if & when she decides to record & tour solo again.

I've been saying for a while that the powers that be have forgotten how to market Stevie and how she was first presented to us as a solo act - a straight forward rocker. For those reasons, Every Day and Secret Love (and even Rooms On Fire, and Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind) were not ideal choices for singles. Fall From Grace, Ghosts Are Gone, Listen To The Rain, and Long Way To Go were huge missed opportunities to lead off with a rocking first single and keep Stevie's confidence (imho) intact or at least less unstable.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the band. Waddy is great and there is no denying that....but she def needs to freshen things up a bit. The rest of her band is good also....just at this point I think too familiar to her, and they dont seem to be pushing her buttons so to speak. GDW was amazing at Hammerstein as was SDMHA and hell even Landslide felt refreshed! Hats off to Stevie! Even with the remnants of the bug thats bugging her....she nailed it! Imaine what that band could do with Fall From Grace....Rhiannon....EO17.....No Spoken Word and many others!

Diamondsnake, was there truly drama at the rehearsal or were you just joking? I'm curious...

I was there for the rehearsal, and Stevie came out and did not look that great. They did the song once, and then we all clapped and they were chit chatting. Stevie then came up to the microphone and said "I have almost no voice, and I am two seconds away from the flu". Then the stage manager was like: "what can we do?"

Stevie Stevie asked them to adjust the earpiece she had. She then started begging to wear her sunglasses. "I have really good sunglasses!" She said she needed to see the screen since it was a new song. I guess they decided she shouldn't wear them. They did the song again, Stevie said she needed to rest, and then they dissapeared.

The actual performance was 100 times better than the rehearsal! I think she must have just psyched herself up for the five minute song. She rocked!!! I was so proud of her!

This is a quote from Christine about Stevie, from 1976:

Onstage she's the goddess of whatever, but offstage she's very often like a little old lady with a cold or a sore throat. Yet she's amazing..she can feel like **** before she goes onstage but then she goes out there and pulls out the stops.

When I first watched it, I thought maybe she forgot the lines when she left out a verse, but I'm assuming they rehearsed it that way to shorten the song for the show?

YCFT is obviously the song that is being promoted for the LP. I am trying to figure out how this factors into FM releasing new material in the near future. In the past, Stevie would maybe have a song on a soundtrack just prior to a new LP, but it wasn't the lead track. I really like YCFT, but hope it does not detract from the new FM and vice versa. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect any of the releases to skyrocket to the top of the music charts. However, that would be very cool.

Really?? This amazes me that an artist of her stature would have to beg for anything. She should just channel her inner Diva (think, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Madonna etc) and say "I need/want my glasses and I'm wearing them and find a way to make this work for me". Yikes. The woman is 64 years old and a legend. Why is she begging for anything?? grrr

Believe me, don't believe me, it's all good -

I came across the line "She twirls around and starts to laugh" a few years back, on the Internet, under a pseudonym that looked "hauntingly familiar." ;) I thought it was a wonderful poem and thought it had potential to become a great song. My memory is *VERY* hazy on this, it may have been allpoetry.com but I haven't bothered to search for it because it seems very unlikely that I'll be able to re-find it at this point.

(And so yes, it was "she" instead of "he" at that point. That I'm reasonably clear on in my memory.)

I believe this song also has some elements of "Stay Away" in it. That's a wonderful unpublished song that can be found on Nancy's great site. (buckinghamnicks.net.)

I very much wish that one would be released as a song, as it is, because I think it has potential to be one of her best. imo it's incredibly deep. :)

Rock on!

Watched is Thursday. Have been away since. Time to comment. To echo many others, this was her best TV performance of a new song since Fall From Grace in 2001. By a long shot is a huge understatement. Not to lesson the greatness of this letterman performance but it's almost equally sad how she's gone 12 years shooting her self in the foot with lousy to mediocre TV performances with her new songs. And I'm lumping fleetwood Mac in here over all 2003. Really can any of us say if we weren't ALREADY huge fans of this woman would we be sold in any way from seeing Everyday, say you will, secret love, for what it's worth or even sorcerer which has been done really well at her comcerts but never on TV.

But You can't fix this was finally a complete 180. We got to see peak stevie on TV for a change.

I think Bob Barker will be upset if the owners debark their dogs.

They are more quiet now since I filed a complaint with the dog warden last summer.
If it keeps up they will receive a barking ticket. So far the dogs are quiet now.

SOUND CITY - REAL TO REEL Various
(Sony) 3.5 stars Album review: Sound City - Real to Reel

JAMES BELFIELD

The only way that Stevie Nicks and Rick Springfield were ever going to get into this coolest-of-the-cool rockers nightclub was if Dave Grohl was the doorman.

But the Foo Fighter's got an open door policy when it comes to the classics and his movie directorial debut is centred around the epic LA studio which laid down warts-and-all albums by the likes of Fleetwood Mac and the big Jessie's Girl Aussie artist.

This soundtrack is a swaggering rock-hits radio playlist of an album featuring legends as varied as Paul McCartney (who provides the best bits), Josh Homme, Trent Reznor and the Black Motorcycle Rebels.

In trying to cover so much ground it does come a little unhinged, but it's a tub-thumping reminder of a time when cutting an album meant making glorious mistakes as well as blistering ball-tearers.
