I just can't believe that this is anything more than the usual Mick 'well meaning but unfounded' rambling when he does interviews. Unless, of course, Christine has given him some reason to think otherwise.
Argh! I need to know.
"Fleetwood reveals that during a coming visit to Britain, where McVie nowlives, he will push her to honour a recent promise to travel back with him to Hawaii. It means she will be in town at the same time the band will be in rehearsal for their next tour."
The part in bold now makes me think that she may not even pluck up the courage to get on the plane, let alone sing...

Mick Fleetwood has said that he expects the retired musician to re-join the group
He just expects..
Anything is possible, of course. But he just expects.

Oh my God how amazing would that be? If she came out after Landslide and did Say You Love Me and You Make Loving Fun or something, then rejoined for the encores.....Jesus Christ, that'd be amazing. Even more amazing if she re-joined fully for just the UK dates. Maybe that would kick-start her to do some studio work for an EP!?
*faints from thought*

 gotta love love love Mick!
he first said Christine is coming out to see him and John in HI. now he's saying she half-promised him that but he'll see her when in England doing his advertising rounds and try to drag her back to HI... so even that part has not been decided.
i really hope Mick is successful and gets Christine to record some songs with them, and maybe even gets her on the stage with Mac for a song or 2 in London. but remember, that was a possibility the last 2 tours too, and she backed out... and i can fully understand why after all the years of not performing she wouldn't feel like doing that again... but maybe showing up on a song and doing a verse wouldn't be that much of a strain and it would be incredible for everybody!

the last time John did a Q&A I asked him if there was ever a possibility of Christine playing with them onstage (this would have been for the SYW tour) and he said there never was a chance of her doing so
I can't imagine she would want to play live. she hasn't done that for nearly 14 years
Be nice but I can't see it myself

sadly, you're probably right. This is all probably Mick's idea to generate tour buzz. But again, people do change over the years. Maybe Chris is just plain bored and needs to sing and play again, if only for a night or two.

That's true too. Though common sense makes me think that nowadays, Christine almost 70, has less intentions to sing in public than in the past.
But also episodes like the one happened on august 7, 1987, made me think (while I was reading Mick's book during early 90s) that Lindsey would never rejoin Fleetwood Mac:
Lindsey then came back into the house, very distraught. He shouted, "Get that woman (Stevie) out of my life that schizophrenic bitch!" Christine was furious. "Lindsey, look at yourself, screaming like a madman." There was a silence. And John McVie quietly said to Lindsey Buckingham, "I think you'd better leave now."
"You're a bunch of selfish bastards," Lindsey said, and walked out. He sat in his car in the driveway for fifteen minutes, obviously distraught, but nobody wanted to go to him. Eventually, we heard him start his motor and leave.
And now 4 pieces of that lineup looked so happy on stage. So.. anything can happen.

Sure, but in '87 Lindsey left because of personal differences with the others and a desire to do solo records. Christine left because the thought of going up on stage again and travelling stressed the hell out of her.
It's been 15 years. As you say, she's nearly 70. She won't do it.

There's a reason I've never seen Fleetwood Mac live, and probably never will. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the classic Rumours line-up hasn't toured Britain (Hi, remember us?) since 1980. Yes I know there was that all-too-brief 1998 Brit Awards appearance, but would you give a starving dog a rubber bone?
Christine is, for me, the heart and soul of the band and I just can't get too excited about the four-piece line-up cranking out another very predictable set list. If Chris does appear, maybe it will be an unannounced cameo at the end of the set at a London show. I really don't think she'd want the stress of performing a full set over several nights. Although I'd crawl across broken glass for a ticket if she changed her mind.

It's just Mick's pipe dream. He publicly expresses his thoughts and the press and fans go nuts with overblown reactions. It's not going to happen. Sure, Christine might socially meet with her former band members, but she is retired from the music entertainment business. People - get over it! The title of this thread is dubious and very misleading.

When we meet in a west London hotel, 6ft 5in Fleetwood says: “There are young people who are so happy this tour is happening.”
Now 65, the drummer has a healthy tan after years of living in Hawaii but has retained his English accent.
He says: “It’s a new generation that have been turned on to our music. Rumours is our most famous album but it leads to all the others. It’s like someone finding a Neil Young album and going, ‘What? There’s more?’
“Sonically it’s a very clean, un-gizmoed record which has been a huge blessing. We didn’t call in a slick, Hollywood producer and there were none of the sound effects you hear in music today.
“We made a beautifully recorded album that worked. It’s all about the music, which I don’t think dates and still speaks for itself.”
The multi-platinum album, which debuted at No1 across the world and spent 31 weeks topping the US charts, looks set to re-enter the UK Top Ten on Sunday.
It’s already spent a total of 493 weeks on the Official Albums Chart to date and, for the band, it represents them at their most accusatory and confessional.
As he tugs away at his white beard, Fleetwood says: “As a band who were experiencing a breakdown of personal relationships, the music was the only way we could talk.”
Buckingham’s Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again and Go Your Own Way were about the guitarist’s troubled relationship with longtime girlfriend, singer-songwriter Nicks.
Her song Dreams has the line: “You say you want your freedom. Well who am I to keep you down?”. You Make Loving Fun, written by keyboardist Christine McVie after she’d started an affair with lighting director Curry Grant, and Don’t Stop had personal messages to bassist husband John, which were hard to bear.
Fleetwood reveals: “We communicated through music — which hurt.
“Imagine hearing what was going on with your partner through a song? As writers, they were saying they were angry and hurt through music which, yes, were pop songs, but had a certain darkness.
“Fleetwood Mac were really accessible musically, but lyrically and emotionally, we weren’t so easy. And it was our music that helped us survive. But all of us were in pieces personally. I was the only one spared as I didn’t have to work with my wife. Jenny and I had broken up and she was involved with someone that I knew really well. It was hard, but I knew why.”
Fleetwood then started a two-year affair with Nicks.
He says: “I had pretty much left Jenny anyhow and I was licking my wounds. It was a mess and there we were in the studio.”
In an earlier chat with Nicks, the singer told SFTW: “No one was willing to give up Fleetwood Mac — it just wasn’t an option.
“Whatever happened between me and Lindsey or the others, the power of the band and the music meant more.”
Fleetwood adds: “It wasn’t heroics, and it wasn’t easy but as Lindsey recently said to me, ‘We were brave — emotionally brave’.
“God, there are worse things that can happen to people, but when couples break up they don’t then immediately spend huge amounts of time with each other.
“It would’ve been easier for us all to run away than make Rumours.”
It wasn’t just in their personal lives that they were suffering. Drugs, especially cocaine, were everywhere in the studio — a bag always stashed under the mixing desk.
Fleetwood confesses: “Stevie and I were the worst offenders. We took it to the ‘nth’ degree.
“We were the last to get off the horse and although we try to put it in good humour, we were very lucky to get through all of that.”
Nicks’ cocaine addiction resulted in a hole in her nose.
She reveals: “A plastic surgeon looked at my nose and told me it would collapse if I carried on.
“My vanity made me stop. I didn’t want to be a dead drug addict — least of all one with a collapsed nose.
“I called Betty Ford (Clinic) straight away but then I was given the tranquiliser Klonopin to keep off the coke. That was worse — I couldn’t move or get up. I was out of it for eight years.”
It was all a long way from the band’s beginnings in the Sixties British blues boom.
Fleetwood Mac started out in 1967 under the helm of legendary guitarist Peter Green.
But when he quit in 1970 and success dried up, the band drafted in first Christine then later the American duo Buckingham and Nicks to give the band a new direction — and the hits just kept coming.
Since Fleetwood Mac last toured in 2009, there has been talk of a new album.
The four band members — Christine McVie quit in 1998 after her fear of flying stopped her travelling — have been in the studio but Nicks’ solo career has delayed work. Fleetwood says: “I did think at one point that we may never tour again. And for once I was public about how I saw it. I am the worrier of the band and need Stevie and Lindsey back or we can’t go on.
“Lindsey had quit quit the band just before the Tango In The Night world tour in 1987 but we got him back in 1992 thankfully. But Fleetwood Mac now could never continue without Stevie especially.
“The truth is she is the only member that can go out and still command a whole audience’s attention span — in her own right in her solo work AND as a member of Fleetwood Mac.
“Anyway, I aired my views and worries and I’m sure it freaked Stevie out because immediately she was asked by everyone if the band would ever tour again. And, of course, she wanted back in.
“Then me, Lindsey and John went into the studio six months ago, because we just wanted to start something. Stevie had been busy with her solo album and tour and she had just lost her mum. So we just put the idea of a new record on the back burner.
“But she’s been in the studio with Lindsey and sung on two or three of his songs and they had a fantastic time. There’s about seven songs in total.
“We’re hoping we can put some new songs out as an EP around the time of the tour. Stevie and Lindsey are singing together more, as it worked so well on stage when we toured. Stevie and Lindsey are in a good place today, which is cool.
“And on the tour we’re intending to play a couple of new songs as well as the ones we have to play or we’d be shot. But we might reapproach some songs in a totally different way.
“I know John is keen for us to play Crystal (from the cult 1973 Buckingham Nicks album) as that’s the song I heard when I invited Stevie and Lindsey into the band.
“We might even let the audience ‘pick a song’ via some technology on the night and do a mishmash of the songs chosen.”
The big news for devoted Fleetwood Mac fans is that the band are reuniting with Christine McVie.
Fleetwood reveals: “I spoke to her just before I walked through that door to speak to you for this interview.
“I’m seeing Chris here in London before I leave and even though she loathes flying and she’s never been back to the United States since the day she left, she is getting on a plane and flying to Hawaii with me. I’m going to hold her hand all the way — even if I have to handcuff it.
“We miss her and love her, and I hope I’m a part in persuading her to return.
“She’s going to come and stay for three weeks in Maui — I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
John’s going to come over from Honolulu to see her.
“And then she’s going to LA to see Stevie, who misses her terribly and is really excited to see her.
“But it’ll be her decision. But we’d make her very welcome if she wanted to creep on that stage again.
“Fleetwood Mac are back and it’s going to be a great tour. It’s only right that Christine joins us too.”

So wait... all of this time I was under the impression that it was Frozen Love that Mick heard playing. It was Crystal? And John, I hope your wish comes true. I would probably cry if they played it (I'll probably cry at most things they play, though, now that I mention it).
Mick really REALLY seems to want Chris back this tour for whatever reason. But hey - not complaining. I just hope that she doesn't give in [and I doubt that she would] unless it's something that she really wants to do. I don't want her to be on stage if she doesn't want to be there.
I am so glad that they are entertaining the idea of letting the audience pick a song!

^No, I think that was a misprint. I think he actually said "and there's" instead of "as that's"- referring to John's fav BN song Crystal & the song Keith played for Mick, Frozen Love.
But, all this Chris talk is making me curious! Could it be they are really wooing her? Will she really do some shows? Or even an album?

One encouraging sign is that Christine's not dumb. She might not fulfill all or any of Mick's hopes, but if she wasn't down for something, then she wouldn't even come here. If she just wanted to see their grubby faces, she could wait until September when they will already be in her neck of the woods.
If she is flying, it's because she plans to do more than visit, even though I am pretty sure she doesn't have touring in mind AT ALL.
Of course, as Elle said in another thread, Mick may even have jumped the gun in saying that she'll go to Hawaii. That may not be concrete yet. We have to make sure she gets on the plane first, before we can really know it's not all just speculation on his part.

Great advice to both men of mac. It's this simple: If Christine is back, there will be another album. And that is what Mick wants. Stevie will have no way to back out. Plus with 7 Lindsey songs, that album is already mostly done anyway. amazing.

I couldn't agree more. If they have any hopes of doing something with Christine, they'd be wise to focus only on recording. If they put any pressure on her to play live with them, she just may hightail it back to England, never to be heard from again.

Does Mick have a 5 year span of missing time? Lindsey came back in '97, not '92. In '92, Lindsey was bad mouthing Fleetwood Mac to anyone who'd listen while touring to back Out Of The Cradle.
Mick, you need to get Sherman to talk Mr Peabody into letting you into the "Way-Back Machine" so you'll get your chronology correct!!!
Oh, and yeah, right on top of technology there, Mick....both Elvis Costello & the Rolling Stones were letting the fans pick songs for their concert sets 20-25 years ago.

 So true.
While I'd LOVE to see Chris tour again... I'd rather her be involved at all than scared off because they pushed too hard.
So if I were FM, this would be my gameplan:
- Get on Christine's good side, get her all buttered up and try to convince her to record with FM for one last time. (don't harass about tour, but make sure she knows you would love to have her and then let that be the end of it)
- Tour as the 4some as planned.
- Final studio LP with Chris involved if they have succeeded in the first step
- Do one last filmed concert (with Christine playing) and release that alongside the album.

I'm trying to envision what lies ahead for Christine: an 11 hour flight, with Mick holding her hand the entire time. Is that comforting? And even if it is, I'm not sure it's an adequate substitute for the liquor she used to have on hand in the past.
Michele
I'm cracking up thinking of the song choice that Fleetwood Mac would give for a web vote.
Lindsey: "Okay, so we do this web vote thing where you get to pick the song!!!"
Stevie: (3 minute diatribe about how she doesn't even know how to spell computer, and has never seen an iPad, etc)
Lindsey: "Let's see what song we will be doing tonight............Never Going Back Again, no, Gypsy, no, Don't Stop, nah, we'll do that one later anyway, and the winner is--Sara!!!!!!!!!!"
Stevie: "Oh wow, ahahahahah, I hope I remember how that one goes, ahahahaha"
Sorry, I think it's cool that Mick is even bringing this type of thing up...having a fan choice song would be neat, but I can't see them doing this in the same manner that the Springsteen does with E Street Band. They just grab a sign out of the audience from fans and spend a minute figuring out the keys and then letting it rip.
If the Mac does this, it would be more in line with how the Stones did it in '97-'98 (and for the 5 anniversary shows last year)....here's a finite list of songs and you can vote for which you want to hear. There have always been rumors that the web votes on the Stones' Bridges to Babylon Tour were rigged anyway.

They (the band) used that excuse with Say You Will and not having Chris have songs on the album. "What if she had the hit single" I believe was tossed around by Lindsey and/or Stevie. To that, I say, that bloom is off the rose. I don't think anyone has to worry about a hit single from any Mac album these days. I highly doubt any album would be driving ticket sales for the tour in 2013. If they can get Chris to record, then it's easy, just avoid her songs in the show. I would much rather have album Chris then no Chris at all!

Poor Christine. She should take a very heavy sedative. I'd prefer that to 11 hours of Mick, god bless him, cutting my circulation off in First Class. :D

I'd rather have her on an album than not have her on an album, regardless of the touring situation.
I agree. GIVE ME AN ALBUM! ;)

If they do Crystal... I will have a new huge respect for John McVie. I reaaaaaaallly hope they play Crystal.
Songs I would like them to play:
Crystal (haha)
Warm Ways (only if Chris tours)
Station Man- oh how i love that song, especially with stevie and lindsey
That's Alright
Oh Daddy- once again, only if Chris joins
Doesn't Anything Last
Smile at You
Little Lies- again, only if Chris is there
Think About Me- sorry, Chris again
Storms
I know I'm not wrong
Never Forget- Chris again
Love in Store- Chris and Stevie's harmonizing is amazing on that

If Christine were on board for an album, Stevie wouldn't want to back out. She'd be there at 5am every morning, with coffee brewing in their trusty Bunn, raring to go.
:laugh::laugh::laugh: you know it!
Meanwhile, if they screw up & miss this prime opportunity that Dave Grohl has just handed them on a silver platter, to market the 40th anniv. of BN with a proper release / live show / even a doc - I will be so mad.

I think all this talk about Christine coming back is so premature. I seriously doubt it will happen (even though it would be a dream come true if she did). Reminds me of all that talk about Sheyl Crow joining (although that was not a dream) a few years back.
I totally agree with someone's comment about prefering to see seeing Christine on a new Fmac album than joining them for some dates on this tour. What's all this BS about not wanting her to record if she's not going to hit the road with them to support it? I recently heard John say this and one of the others said it earlier too (don't remember if it was Lindsey or Mick).
Lastly, I think it's funny how someone will make a comment and change the perception of the real story. I could see how Mick's comment about Crystal could give a new fan the idea that it was that song, and not Frozen Love, that convinced Mick that he wanted That guitar player.
Reminds me of how so many people believe, including Lindsey, that that infamous 1974 call from Mick went directly to the couple. Lindsey often says "they asked me to join but I said you no. Not unless you take both of us" (I'm paraphrasing here). That didn't happen. Mick called Keith Olsen and Keith told Mick that they're a packaged deal. Then Keith called the couple and told them Fleetwood Mac wants BOTH of you to join.

I see what you're saying, however, this is really a strange coincidence that she is traveling to the United States after all of this time just to "visit" Mick and the gang. If it were any other time, I would agree, but people do change over time. Why is she coming to the U.S. now? Anything is possible.. fingers crossed. :D

Retirement or not, I don't think at least a guest appearance is out of the question. Now if they could talk her into participating in a new album, that would be truly something to look forward to. A new album with her full participation, I think would actually sell, and sell quite well.

She's probably bored out of her gourd.
Boredom could be a part of it, then again it sounds as though she hasn't seen the band for a number of years, and in the least maybe she just wanted to escape the English weather for a sunny-vacay. Hmm... I do really wish Mick's comments prove to be more than just hopeful meandering... ;)

 but you know better than Lindsey? were you there?
Keith said in sound city movie that Mick called him about the guitarist and he said "you may have a problem there, he wouldn't join alone" or something like that... this was interspersed scene with Lindsey saying the same story we always heard. either story is probably simplified for the sake of telling it... for all we know Mick called Keith and the Keith called Lindsey, than Lindsey said not without Stevie, than Keith called Mick back and told him about the problem, than Mick called Lindsey, and on and on - see what i'm saying? told in circles like this story doesn't sound nearly as good. so each of them just says "Mick called me" :)

Nah.
Fleetwood Mac could never do something nearly as cool as Cropredy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairport's_Cropredy_Convention), and now with Weston and Welch gone, I'm not sure I'd see the point.

Crystal. John's a hero.
Hi Everyone! Can I make my very first post about my dream opening? (Be gentle, I'm new) It would be this:
About 10 minutes before coming on stage they pipe through the speakers:
The Chain (original Demo)
Crystal (FM version with LB singing)
and then the curtains open and the first live song is Fireflies followed by the usual version of The Chain after which they just rock the house down for the rest of the set.
Why? Because the original demo of The Chain shows the love, Crystal shows the vision, Fireflies is about survival, FM version of The Chain is about commitment to each other and then the rest of the set shows what they have done over the years.

To make it happen, I bet Mick and Stevie, and maybe John, would give their cut to Christine. Lindsey strikes me as not really caring at this point, at least if she's not involved with the project.
So, when Stevie recently said she'd pool her resources and pay Christine $5 million if it would get her to return, I wonder if she said that for a reason. I mean had the subject actually come up and maybe she and Mick were saying to each other, "Hey we already signed the contracts and four of us are getting paid and even if Christine came back now, we would have no way to restructure the deal and split it five ways," so maybe did Stevie then say, "I'd pay her out of my own pocket," and is that what made her make that stray comment?
I mean, she is always saying something about missing Christine, but she never mentioned paying her money like that before (she did mention building her a kitchen after the Dance tour) and I just wondered if it came from anywhere. Maybe it came out of her head or maybe it was an offshoot of a real life discussion she'd had with someone.

I think she's said it more than once, too. Which would lend me to think that somehow that got put in her head for a reason. Kind of how going over to Lindsey's house sparked her bringing up that they all have nice houses over and over again.

Since leaving Fleetwood Mac in 1998, Christine McVie has stayed close with the band, but refused all attempts to rejoin the group, largely due to her fear of flying. However, that might be changing. In a new interview, titular drummer Mick Fleetwood said that he is doing his best to lure her back into the fold for their upcoming tour.
“I’m seeing Chris here in London before I leave,” he told the English tabloid the Sun. “And even though she loathes flying and she’s never been back to the United States since the day she left, she is getting on a plane and flying to Hawaii with me. I’m going to hold her hand all the way, even if I have to handcuff it.”
This contradicts McVie’s own words from last month, where the keyboardist/singer said she was content to be out of the spotlight. And both Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, independently of each other, admitted that her return was unlikely, but Fleetwood is hoping that being around her old bandmates will rekindle the desire to get back on stage with them.
“She’s going to come and stay for three weeks in Maui,” he continued. “I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it. John’s going to come over from Honolulu to see her and then she’s going to L.A. to see Stevie, who misses her terribly and is really excited to see her. But it’ll be her decision. But we’d make her very welcome if she wanted to creep on that stage again.”
Even if McVie decides against a return to the road, she will have the opportunity to see them. The band announced five shows today (Feb. 4) in the U.K. and Ireland in September and October, with tickets going on sale Saturday (Feb. 8).

I'm glad she's getting out of the house. It makes me sad to think of her shutting herself off from the world and letting her choices be driven by fear. This visit is definitely a step in the right direction.
Will it lead to her rejoining the group? I highly doubt it, although I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong.

We’re all ex-lovers, so we don’t have that corporate, guy thing where it’s just 'get the job done’. I think it bodes in our favour that, in a funny, shaky way, there is some integrity. We do actually love each other, for real. Unfortunately. ’Cause it’s tough.”
Eagles, anyone?

Here in the UK a lot of big name artists often appear on ITV doing a 1 hour 'special' of their greatest hits. Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees, Neil Diamond and many more have done it in recent years.
I'd love it if Fleetwood Mac did one with Christine returning as a one off (although obviously would love her to do some shows with them too) - I could see this show doing really well and having a similar impact to The Dance reunion. She wouldn't have to travel far either:D

“She’s going to come and stay for three weeks in Maui,” he continued. “I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it. John’s going to come over from Honolulu to see her and then she’s going to L.A. to see Stevie, who misses her terribly and is really excited to see her.”

seems like Mick is dialing it back on the whole Christine thing. This was posted in another thread

Only Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998, is staying away. She’s been leading a reclusive, distinctly non-rock’n’roll life in a Kent farmhouse ever since, having no involvement with Fleetwood Mac and never giving interviews — until now.
“We were very hedonistic,” says McVie, recalling the band’s reputation for excess in the fond manner of someone remembering high jinks at school. “But it was always fun because we never got into heroin or anything like that. If you got too high you had a drink, and if you got too drunk you had another line of coke. We did that every night until three or four in the morning. It was different back then. Once you made it you were completely nurtured in this little world.”
Why did she leave the band? “After I took my 95,000th flight something snapped. I became terrified of flying and I couldn’t face living out of a suitcase any more.”
So it comes as a further surprise to hear that, two days after our interview, she’s flying to Fleetwood’s house in Maui, Hawaii, before traveling to Los Angeles to meet the rest of the band as they rehearse for a world tour.
“No, no, no,” says Mick Fleetwood, the band’s genial, pony-tailed giant of a drummer, when I ask him if McVie will actually return to complete Rumour’s two-warring-couples dynamic that, in Buckingham’s words, “brought out the voyeur in everyone”. “We love her, we miss her, but no. She’s left. Still, she’s a huge part of our story and I certainly hope that when we tour in September and October she makes one little excursion to a gig.”

I'd love that, but feel the rest of the band burned that bridge when they excluded her from SYW because she didn't want to tour. Which was pathetic, really. She couldn't be on the album because she wouldn't be on the tour to play her new material. Because FM plays new material.

This is pretty much exactly what Lindsey said a few weeks ago about the Eagles, so it seems to be a safe bet that's who Mick has in mind although he's wise enough to avoid naming names. Smart move considering they share the same management now.

I'm glad Mick is backing away from the assertion that Christine could very well join them on tour if he worked on her a bit. He was getting a lot of people's hopes up prematurely.
