View Full Version : which IYD song should FM do live 2013?

SN stated in some interview last week that they are seriously considering doing one song from each of their last solo albums - IYD and SWS. i love love love that idea and hope they follow through.

i'm creating 2 (or maybe 3?) polls, one with 10 songs from IYD and the other with 10 songs from SWS. please vote for which of the 10 you'd like to hear the most during FM live 2013 tour.

IYD poll:

there are 13 songs, so i can't put all of them since i think polls allow 10 max, let me know if you think i should add another poll with the remaining 3?

i took out SL since she's been doing it solo and people seemed underwhelmed by it - at least judging by posts i saw in SN forum? and then i don't know which other 2 to leave out so i'll just leave out the last 2. ;)

I think is a no brainer they are doing SA.

sorry i changed my mind while doing the poll - i thought i'd offer all duets as an option and so i couldn't leave the last song on the album off the poll.

so these are [somewhat random] choices for which IYD song would you like to hear FM do live 2013?

For What It's Worth
Wide Sargasso Sea
New Orleans
Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)
Soldier's Angel
Everybody Loves You
Ghosts Are Gone
You May Be The One
Italian Summer
Cheaper Than Free (Feat. Dave Stewart)

Sorry elle, but I totally disagree with this poll....only b/c I think Stevie is blowing smoke up our ars...yes, they are "thinking about it" which translates into Stevie talking Linds into doing SA, provided he can do "one" of his songs.

Call Me negative nelly, but I would rather much hear Twisted, Go Insane, Holiday Road, Stars are Crazy, Crystal, Frozen Love, Love Runs Deeper, Thrown Down, and even When I See You Again! than anything on IYD!

*note, if they do SA, I think this will be replaced at JazzFest for NO by Stevie

lol. but i remember you never hearing anything from SWS before i pointed you to some of the songs (that was you, right? i'm not imagining things?).

various lindseyfans were working really really hard on lindsey through all those meet and greets last year to try to get him to do some SWS songs on the upcoming Mac tour. as i said in the other thread i really don't care which song they do from IYD as long as we get one of the songs from my SWS wishlist. :p

i don't need to hear Go Insane (again!), when he has all these other stellar choices from his most recent album (although you did mention Stars Are Crazy which would probably be my next to last choice from SWS poll)!

I think it's a given it will be Soldier's Angel. FYI, some of the televised performances of Secret Love were underwhelming, I think because she was still getting over pneumonia, but I quite liked the live versions I heard during the tour.

i agree that's probably what will happen (SA). but i'm interested to hear people's choices here, not what's SN's choice! :D

cool that you liked SL on tour, i didn't hear any of the live versions, tv or tour, so i personally really have nothing to judge it by.

Yes, and yes. I did hear Stars are Crazy prior to that post, but you are correct. I think pretty much anything from SWS would fit perfectly with the Mac setlist. There are few Stevie-ish IYD songs that would work well, imo.

I'm not crazy about SN controlling the list "tit for tat", when she has so many other Mac and solo songs that would be better performed with LB/Mac. Oy vey.

I understand her reason behind SA and the message is a good one...but save it for Rod Stewart next year, plz.

but think about the monkey dance or kangaroo jumping - we wouldn't have any of these if LB wasn't bored during Stand Back! so we need some suitable replacement for that song :)

I think the Mac-iest IYD song is Annabel Lee, but that didn't make the poll. I guess my choice would be You May Be The One. It's a really powerful track, actually one of my faves from the album, and I think it would result in a really cool Stevie-Lindsey dynamic.

Just stick to Stand Back then so we can have all that Lindsey sexiness again! ;)

But we should still get a SWS song - need a quality song from a quality album! :D

Or even better - no songs from IYD, but TWO from SWS!

GAG is Great live....mb a replacement for Fall from Grace, but no replacement for SB

Let all us FM fans live with it, it has been a staple since LB walked out in 87. I'm sure Mick and Stevie couldn't agree more

oh i'm well used to backlash here! ;) :D

but again, read my reply to you somewhere above. do you really think they'll do 2 solo songs each? and why do you want to hear something you've heard tons of time already? didn't we all complain all the time how we want to hear something new?

actually, what i think will happen (but is not necessarily my first choice, and i'm not voting for that as MY wish) - SN will do both SA and SB, and count SA as both her recent album and duet with LB so not completely solo. and LB will do whatever his choice from SWS is (please Lindsey let it be one of the rocking SWS songs needing backing band! we can hear acoustic ones solo).

oh, you drive a good point, one which I really didn't consider before. And yes I still think regardless if LB foregoes GI for another (more recent) solo song, we will still hear SB And SA. SB is a staple, practically a FM song, so why not?

I personally would love to hear a recent song by LB (and I dont mean Miss Fantasy, et al) And Holiday Road....

But alas, I can't write a whole setlist I would like to hear (many the songs I mentioned above) But, as long as the songs are FM friendly and include a duet/harmony I say why the hell not?

i actually like the sound of many IYD songs, much much more than SN's SYW songs.

I agree, of course (on LB's rockin' tracks) WMYTYTH, Eyes, NTF, IKINW (which we already heard) But wouldn't LB throw the whole band for a loop if he bust into The Ledge one night? That would be nostalgic. Would love to see live.

Oh, I don't disagree. But I thought I'd offer another perspective on the "terrible album" opinion. ;)

Although, frankly, I don't think 'SWS' is a terrible album. There's a few really good songs on it. I just think Lindsey's been stuck in a major rut (ever since the acoustic "Big Love" garnered him so many accolades 16 years ago).

Stevie once said that if you told Lindsey something he was working on sounded like a previous song, he'd scrap it and go in a completely different direction. I wish he'd recapture that spirit. I miss the days when every album of his material sounded different than the album prior.

Why do they suck? Fans really should take the time to articulate their opinions -- at least beyond "it's terrible," or "it sucks." Well-rounded criticism is a good thing. It illuminates the subject and enlightens the reader. We can have differing opinions while respecting each others viewpoint. But when you say something "sucks," that doesn't tell us anything. Well, at least not about the album.

see i'm confused when you say that about SWS. i would understand if you said that about UTS which was acoustically (and LB himself said) majorly built on that acoustic BL / GI sound. it's also the album that brought him probably the most critical accolades (although he always gets them anyway).

i can agree that SWS is more of what we are used to hearing from Lindsey - but what we are used to are songs in 6 different styles!! how many artists or bands do that? most bands have one style only and milk it forever. LB has developed several distinctly his styles, including that acoustic BL/GI sound, and baroque-ish guitar sound like in SAC, and TPT, and SWS, and breezy perfect little pop songs with heavy words, and heavily rocking guitar-based songs, and 1000-layers songs like When She Comes Down... and than there's "rapping" on One Take (did he ever do that before?), and songs with signature electric guitar solo mostly during outros. so if he "in a rut", there's no reason for him to invent yet another style - he is making new music in his own style, which encompasses at least 6 different styles.

I still don't get why Stevie is digging in her heels so much in regards to recording a new Mac album after her self proclaimed amazing experience recording Soldier's Angel with Lindsey. If there is an In Your Dreams so performed by Fleetwood Mac, it will no doubt be that one. However, I just don't see that happening. I don't see Lindsey performing a Seeds We Sow song either. They've got new material to push with these freshly recorded Mac songs. Seeds We Sow & In Your Dreams have run their respective courses.

For me, 'Seeds We Sow' is largely interchangeable with 'Gift Of Screws,' and both albums heavily feature songs that could have easily been included on 'Under The Skin' (for example: "Time Precious Time," "Bel Air Rain," "Treason," "Seeds We Sow," "Stars Are Crazy," "Rock Away Blind") -- and which are direct descendents of the acoustic "Big Love" and "Go Insane."

So, yes, when people fall all over 'Seeds We Sow' as if it's a revelation, I find myself scratching my head.

Mind you, I don't feel that any one of his three recent albums is bad (although 'UTS' is certainly my least favorite), but they each have an "already heard it" quality. That was never true of Lindsey's music in the past, and I don't feel as though he's been living up to that "visionary" label lately.

Treason is very different, but the others you mentioned i agree are descendants from BL/GI style although heavily embellished with what i called baroque-ish guitar, that waterfall-like sound that he's been playing with a lot. but they are still moving forward even if you may not like that he's pushing that style. Rock Away Blind is one of his favorite songs for me (although granted i have about 20-30 favorites  ), while i can't stand the grating chorus of Time Precious Time and Bel Air Rain drives me nuts. literally, it's too busy but not in a good way like To Try For The Sun. imo, of course, i know many people who feel the opposite.

but you also have typically LB-ish Gift Of Screws on GOS; there's Tusk and there's GOS, those 2 songs are in their own separate category :nod:. and Underground at completely opposite end of spectrum. and you have In Our Own Time, That's The Way Love Goes and Illumination on SWS. when i first heard those - and Stars - live at Saban, and everybody loved Stars but i loved those other 3, i felt like a Lindsey-traitor because i thought those are not completely his style, unlike Stars. TTWLG can be a perfect little punkish song. although Lindsey says that it's in style of Come (for which he didn't write the music, Neale did), but i think although therare similarities those are 2 very different songs. TTWLG is much more accessible, while Come relies heavily on that explosive guitar solo. In IOOT you have both fast and slow, several melodies going, and that completely off guitar riffing.

and then you have Treason or End of Time... middle of the roadish not very interesting songs if you ask me. although words do save End Of Time somewhat, and i guess it's FM-y, and supposedly did well on satellite radio, but really not my cup of tea when i have all those other spectacular choices.

I'd rather not have him duet on something she's already sung on with someone else. I don't want him on Everybody Loves You, Stop Dragging My Heart Around or Leather and Lace either. Although, of the three, I'd probably pick the latter. He'd have to do better than Rod Stewart!

If he did Cheaper Than Free with her, I think I'd start a White House petition to have him deported.

you do know that regardless of his misleading last name Buckingham is not a part of English contingent of FM ;)

Leather and Lace with Rod is actually the only version of that song i like, can't stand Henley's voice. Rod's version is somehow gentle and warm.

The most FM-type songs from IYD are in this particular order:

Annabel Lee-Most pop FM sound Stevie has created in years, the fact that she didn't write the lyrics, excludes this from a top contender. Her Music, however pushes this gem to the top of her game along with Gypsy and Dreams. Interestingly enough, 30 years after Gypsy, Nicks didn't need the musical genius of LB to create this Masterpiece.

You May Be The One-Set in beautiful RnB roots and a wonderful chorus of a love lost, Nicks delivers a powerful ballad that would make any love scorned Stand Tall and lament "better to have lost in love....". Her vocals are delicate, yet foretelling and rhythmically on par here, with the deep bass and lead guitar that set the mood of "This is Not a love song".

In Your Dreams-The perfect duet and harmony for BN. Stevie is at the top of her game delivering lyrics such as "I'm at the other end of your night".

One can imagine this as a BN duet with the chorus and LB singing: "I'm at the other end of your night"; SN: "I'm always in and out of your light"; and SN "I'm right down the middle of all your dreams...Ohhh, In your dreams".

Later, one can imagine LB pleading with Nicks "Are all those tears necessary? In all that pain that you carry?" Nicks retorts "You just send those tears away" In unison they sing "Come in out of the darkness...It's a beautiful Day".

The song concludes with the two singing to each other "I'm wishing your wish, I'm wishing my wish......"

So there you have it IYD from IYD is the Best song BN/FM can cover on the next(this) tour.

This band doesn't understand math. If they must stick to the 23 24 songs limit then everything they say they're going to do just doesn't seem possible. 3 brand new songs. one each from IYD and SWS. mick wants something new and special tomhighlightnstevie and Lindsey. They're promising a couple rarities not including the new songs plus taking internet suggestions and i think buckingham nicks was thrown around a few times too. And this all would be very possible if they didn't have such a long list of MUST DOS taking up space.

One song I feel has no place in this crowded equation is stand back. I will be very poised of I see this song in the set opening night. I realize it's her high energy show closer but now we know that Gold Dust Woman can fulfill that need if played properly. Have the main set end GDW and GYOW and cut stand back. Or to answer the question in this thread, Ghosts Are Gone would work perfectly although I think there's less then a 1 Percent chance of that happening. So Soldiers Angel obviously makes the most sense. And I for one would be thrilled if that actually happened. It was my favorite song on the IYD tour and to have Lindsey play and sing on it would make it even better.

Soldier's Angel since Lindsey's there.

On other IYD tunes. What ever Stevie picks .If that happens.

It would be nice to hear IYD tunes.

It would be another plug for IYD sales.

My vote went to You May Be The One.

Great points you make there. Frankly, I'd like Fleetwood Mac to come up with their list of "must do" songs, then let each singer pick ONE and toss the rest of that list in the trash. This would allow them to perform their "must do" songs as an encore, like most bands do, and fill their set with stuff that actual fans want to hear, instead of just playing for the crowd who only owns the 1988 Greatest Hits album.

few hrs ago i would completely agree with you. but then i did the math in the other thread and (i mist be missing some obvious song??), there are really only 11 must dos (without Christine). so that opens 13 spaces!

here's my 11 that i think they'll never ever drop -

Don't Stop
Landslide
GYOW
The Chain
Big Love
So Afraid
Dreams
Rhiannon
Second Hand News
Gold Dust Woman
Tusk

Please no Soldier's Angel. I know i'll get b*tched at for this, but I just could never get into that song. Had to hear it live twice already at the IYD shows I went to. If they do an IYD song, I'd love YMBTO or FWIW.

I agree! Gawd, I hope there's no Soldier's Angel, but Stevie's probably already, "oh this will be so perfect, Lindsey and I can sing it together at every show!" (facepalm) But YMBTO would be cool!

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH

How could anyone not want to hear a Stevie/Lindsey duet on this!?!?

How is You May Be The One winning?
Not that it's bad, but definitely not a favorite.

I'd also pick Everybody Loves You. Soldier's Angel, maybe, but that's kind of predictable so I feel it's a given; I would say another besides that one being as I'm assumign it'll be included in the set.

I guess I'm not for FWIW because, from what I've gathered, it's not about Lindsey, so the context would be wrong, whereas YMBTW was admittedly about Lindsey (and on Dave's end, Annie Lennox). I'm sure FWIW would still sound great coming from the Mac, but I don't think the timing would be right.

This is what I'm afraid of. Don't get me wrong - I love that they connected over this. I love that Stevie cares so much about soldiers.

However, I can't stand the song itself. The melody sounds like a dirge and Lindsey's musical contribution is a surprisingly uninspired series of ker-plunks. Even worse, the lyrics are so (unintentionally) narcissistic they make me cringe.

Her heart was in the right place but I dread hearing that song live again. While the beautiful "Italian Summer" is my fave and I voted for it here, WSS would be exciting, uptempo, and high-energy. Wish I could change my vote to WSS, come to think of it!

Regarding SWS, I view it more as a continuation of Lindsey's previous work rather than a retread. I agree that's it's not a significant departure, though.

My true preference: no solo songs from either.

Personally I'd love to hear Lindsey sing "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie but mostly for novelty's sake, don't really need it taking up space on the setlist. I'm not sure FM should do solo songs on the tour in the first place though, but if it's an IYD song then I'd love "You May Be the One. I like the groove and especially that it's definitely about Lindsey. I think it's weightier than "In Your Dreams" too, though that's a lot of fun. "FWIW" is beautiful but there are other slower songs I'd like to hear. "Annabel Lee" is a song I'd like to hear with a FM that included Christine.

:laugh: see I'msoAfraid95 you didn't have to wait long?!

to answer the question about charting (although most people don't know about IYD or SWS, regardless): "The album entered the Billboard 200 in the week of September 24, 2011.[8] By reaching number 45, Seeds We Sow ties with 1984's Go Insane as Buckingham's second successful album after his 1981 debut Law and Order. Additionally, it also reached number 6 on the Billboard Rock Album Chart and number 5 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart."

a friend of mine once put it this way - Stevie is the worm that reels them in... once at the show there's someone else who actually always delivers (in spades!) for general audience (not just for ultrafans of one or the other band member). hopefully this time around Stevie will rise to the occasion too so everyone can be happy.

i was not there in 2003 or 2009 so just wondering for people who were - did general audience enjoy I Know I'm Not Wrong even though they didn't know it? what about Storms?

would general audience rock out to That's The Way Love Goes? oh yeah :thumbsup:

well, in 2009, I was the worm that reeled my sister, and she was completely mesmerized with Bucks talent. (still not enough to buy his CDs) But she would go with me to a solo show, no doubt.

I didn't notice much about others reactions to IKINW and Storms, however we had to stand the entire show (I was on the floor this time) So, everyone in the first 20 rows or so were standing the entire time. The people behind us sat most of the time.

I think as long as LB pulls out some pop-rock driven tune, the crowd generally enjoys it weather they know it over not.

Voted for and hope it is You May Be the One. But it most likely will be Soldier's Angel. Even though SN had the emotional investment behind the song's creation, it's a good but not standout song on the album.
For doubters however, live it truly comes alive. I had non fans comment on the power of her live performance. And with LB..as originally recorded..if that's her one IYD I still will be okay with it.

If not that, I'm at a loss to understand the reason then. We all have our preferences -- that's what makes the Ledge interesting. But there has to be something more going on to explain the phenomenon, no? I would think that simply not caring for Stevie, and/or her music, wouldn't be a reason to go into threads just to say so.

Why do you have to psychoanalyze why they're doing it if all you want is for it to stop?

If you were actually making a call for peace and mutual respect, I think it's kind of doomed to failure if you fan the flames of indignation in the process.

I'm always interested in what's behind the things people do & say (including myself). I feel there can't be change if we don't get to the root of what's creating the issue. But I guess the "why" really isn't important.

If I'm coming off as overly-touchy, though, then I'm still giving the wrong impression. A dozen "the entire album sucks," "the songs are all terrible," "there's someone else in the band who actually delivers" comments, and it had gotten old. Not because I'm being touchy, but simply because it seemed disrespectful to other fans. I'd feel the same way if Stevie fans were responding similarly to the 'Which SWS song' thread.

From Lindsey's song, which has always been a favorite of mine. :) I initially used my real first name (Brian) on the original Ledge boards, but you couldn't register a screen-name and soon there were three or four "Brians" posting. I see what you're saying. There's always been Stevie v. Lindsey factions here, and everywhere in the fandom. I love 'em both the same (in different ways lol) and I think that the reason some LB fans are so aggressive about praising Lindsey at Stevie's expense is that they feel Stevie undeservedly gets more attention than LB and they are trying to compensate for that.

And hardcore LB fans, I can say that some of these comments, in jest or not, do come off as pretty divisive. Many quite overtly convey an "us vs them" mentality, not just one or two posts in this thread. It's all over the board. This is coming from one who is not regularly accused of oversensitivity, and who is a hardcore of BOTH. ;)

Like I said, though, it's nothing new! SN hardcores can also get clique-y and make unflattering comparisons to LB; it's just not as aggressively done because there's no need to try to make up for a lack of external attention to their fave.

Jamie, Nancy... we love you too!

Nancy - i always appreciate your leveled and thought through posts. i think your analysis is off though. if it feels that Lindsey fans have been louder around here that may be just because we are much fewer in numbers on this board so you probably see the same people a lot. but people just express how they feel. Jamie has many times all over these forums expressed she doesn't care for Lindsey and his music - which is completely fine. i don't see why Viv or i cannot say the same about Stevie and her music without someone feeling personally offended.

teasing each other about "competing teams" should really not be taken as anything else but good fun. how many times have i read around here "i'm team Stevie". but if someone jokes about "taking one for the team" and it happens to be a Lindsey fan that's somehow offensive?

but back to IYD songs - i actually like songs on IYD much more than many of the SN's songs i've heard before. and i really really want to hear a solo song from SWS on the upcoming tour so i think it's just fair to have IYD represented too. plus everybody keeps telling me i'll enjoy watching Lindsey fooling around during SN solo song so i'm looking forward to it and trying to pick a song that will be most conducive to it.

just my opinion.

Like I said, though, it's nothing new! SN hardcores can also get clique-y and make unflattering comparisons to LB; it's just not as aggressively done because there's no need to try to make up for a lack of external attention to their fave.

I think it is as aggressively done, just not here right now, because those SN fans have left this forum. But when they were here, it was done in droves.

I had no wish to replace those fans with LB fans who acted in the same manner, but it happens on both sides. Until recently, it was much worse from SN fans simply because they outnumbered the Lindsey fans so much. They still outnumber the Lindsey fans, but they don't populate this board, the way they did in the past.

It's all good. But for the record, I DO like Lindsey - at least his work with FM. In all fairness, am mostly unfamiliar with his solo work, except for the hits he's had which I enjoy. The only thing I don't like ( if that's accurate) about Lindsey is that during FM shows he takes a lot of the attention, which is probably Stevie's fault because she tends to back away a little during FM shows. So I actually blame her for that.
The only other comment I had about LB was that he tended to yell his songs during the SYW and UL tours. I've been told, however, that he's improved so I'm actually looking forward to seeing him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lindsey during the Unleashed tour and he was a very sweet guy.

you know, i had Lindsey's Center Stage show from 1992 on the other day, and my teenage son walked by and commented "hey, that's really young Lindsey Buckingham but... what happened to his voice? he sounds soo much better now" (he has seen LB on his 2011 and 2012 solo tours).

that said, i have no clue how he might sound on FM tour. it is possible that for their respective solo tours, both Lindsey and Stevie sing in whatever key best suits their current voices - and when they do FM they need to find something that suits both of their voices. maybe that's much harder, i don't know - we shall see (well, hear)!

Not to nitpick, but Lindsey doesn't "take" the attention. He "earns" it by working his ass off. Read almost any review from the last two tours, and they'll back me on that.

That's not Stevie's fault. He's just that good, and it has nothing to do with what she does, or does not do. I don't think she holds back, anyways. She just hasn't been at the top of her game, especially on the UL tour. Rhiannon is my favorite example. I always want her to get into it, and go to town, but she never does anymore. I sincerely hope she brings it this time, though, because I, too, like the whole band and would love for them all to be at their best.

Well, you are too kind. I'm an avid SN fan and I totally get what you are saying. (Yes, she lead me to the band, I will not deny) But in the process I fell in love with Chris and Linds and all.

You are correct she seems a little lackluster with the Mac. This is not true of her solo performances (when I saw her in 2011) and the more recent clips with Dave Ghrol.

As I told my sister in 2009 that she seems to stear away from the spotlight with the Mac. She does her Dreams and (usually) delivers the goods with GDW and SB, but pretty much takes a backseat for the rest of the show.

My original theory behind this act was b/c she had a more sucessful solo career than LB (in the beginning) and she was just trying to be gracious towards LB. However, with LB's more recently popularity and output, I tend to believe that Stevie is just not feeling the "boys club" on tour and deeply misses Christine.

I could be totally off in my assesment and it is quite possibly that she is feeling a little inferior to LB. He's had at least 2-3 popular albums in the past few years compared to her one popular solo effort. IDK, I'd still like to believe that Stevie misses Chris a great deal and that explains her lackluster performances with the Mac. She does seems to get along great with her solo male-counterparts.

No. Fleetwood Mac is Fleetwood Mac. If Lindsey were Fleetwood Mac, then we'd all be paying hundreds of dollars to see him alone in a huge arena. Fleetwood Mac is a group that benefits from the combined efforts of ALL of its members.

I really don't understand the need to constantly compare Stevie & Lindsey specifically and pit them (or if not them, then their fans) against each other. The competitive aspect of it all is silly, quite frankly. The actual use of the word "team" is not the issue - and is rather irrelevant - for the chasm is more implied in the tone and nature of many of the posts.

The so-called "teasing" comes off as spiteful and childish. Why can't everyone like what they like and state their opinion without feeling the need to excessively rag on the other or pump their preferred up in a demeaning way? It's unnecessary.

Without the other, we would likely have never even known who either Lindsey or Stevie were. If nothing else, we can all appreciate THAT contribution, no?

For the record, this is coming from someone who is a fan of both (and actually when it comes down to it, I've invested much more time/money on Lindsey).

Actually, on this, I'm inclined to agree with Christine who said in 2004 that Fleetwood Mac now is just Buckingham Nicks with a very good rhythm section. That's what I feel anyway.

On Stevie's performances, I felt that in 03 she was nasal and soporific except for Stand Back which just blew the roof off the place. In 09 Lindsey was tremendous, but Stevie's voice sounded much better and she seemed to get into it a little more. That said, she still seemed not to be enjoying it.

I think the Mac-iest IYD song is Annabel Lee, but that didn't make the poll. I guess my choice would be You May Be The One. It's a really powerful track, actually one of my faves from the album, and I think it would result in a really cool Stevie-Lindsey dynamic.

I agree with you about Annabel Lee. YMBTO is also my next choice. Both of these sound as if they should have been FM songs instead of solo.

Well, I hate to throw my dog in this fight, but...

Sometimes Lindsey takes it. I have seen him do it with my own eyes. I didn't misinterpret it. It was the first time I saw them live on the UL tour in Atlanta, in fact. He barreled his way through the first few songs, milking the applause as if he was the only performer onstage. It was so obvious that John pointed at him in conversation to Stevie and said "What the hell?!" She just shrugged and shook her head. It passed, but he was definitely being boorish with his hamming.

That being said, I agree that Stevie was not on her A game and that she has much more potential that I would love to see shine on the new tour. I can't imagine how exciting it would be to see them both giving it their all, instead of "waiting on a bus unexciting" as she put it.

Anyway, I don't buy that Stevie was cowering to Lindsey onstage - in wardrobe or anything else. I think she does what SHE wants to do - and sometimes that means she wants to pick her battles, like anyone does. Maybe she senses by being low key that day/that night it keeps the peace. So, what? She knows him better than anyone. That's her choice, not because he is making rules over her.

Wow to your post. I wasn't there so I can't really comment on LB's actions. however, as you described, and I believe it is accurate what you witnessed. The band (MickVie) acknowledge and support the contributions of all singers/songwriters. But I also believe that they are somewhat fatherly- protective of Stevie, at least when it comes to LB and some of her worst critics.

So, what I'm getting at is if MickVie see the value and contributions and neccesary support of ALL performers, then why can't we as fans look past the competition (within the band) and be supportive, as well?

I also agree, that often times more than not, Stevie takes the high road and picks her battles.

I do recall that you said that John seemed miffed that Lindsey was getting a long standing ovation following IKINW.

Of course, Lindsey always does his prayer bowing, hand over the heart thing when the audience responds to him and you said that John seemed fed up with the grandstanding.

John and Stevie often look at each other that way. When Lindsey gives his speech to intro a song, referencing the band's future or past, they will glance at each other and look weary, as if they don't agree or think he is wasting time.

Yes, he had been sort of egging on the applause. Hands on knees, repeatedly yelling "Oh yeah!". It wasn't very generous to his band mates. I think it had culminated by IKINW with John's reaction, because he had been doing it after every song to the point of interrupting the set flow. It wasn't even that Lindsey didn't deserve applause but you know how crowds will start just whooping because something is going on. He took the first applause and then as it died down he kept it going when he should have or normally would have gone into the next song.

Oh, I didn't get that it was an ongoing thing after every song. I only notice him responding to the audience after his own songs, when I saw them.

I was interested in your comment in 2009 because I had noticed John and Stevie's facial expressions and eye contact during Lindsey's song intros and your observations added to my own notice of their interaction at other points in the show, so you gave me more to look for. I knew she didn't agree with Lindsey saying that they don't have a new album YET, before she said she didn't agree in the press, just by the way she was acting on stage when he talked.

As for the standing ovation, I appreciate the longer explanation. At the time, you didn't describe it as a culmination. You just remarked more on John and Stevie's reaction and John making the WTH gesture to Stevie following Lindsey's grandstanding after the one song, which turned out to be IKINW.

I think Lindsey plays into the audience response for sure after his own songs, jumping up and down after ISA, for example, running around the stage in a frenzy or being a "whirling dervish" as Stevie said. And doing that chest pounding thing or prayer gesture. I never thought of it as trying to steal anyone's thunder because the focus was on him anyway, as he does it following his own songs and Stevie gets to bask in it after hers, especially Rhiannon, Stand Back and GDW too. The way the show is set up, they each have their own time to shine, without taking the glow from each other. I don't see him hamming it up after The Chain, for example which, I suppose, would rightly annoy John.

I'm just glad they aren't trying to distract the audience during each other's songs as they have in the past.

Hmmm, not sure what category I fall into - I've been a Buckingham Nicks fan since I was 11 yrs old. I only started listening to FM BECAUSE SnL joined the band. I have always considered FM to be more or less a back-up band for Buckingham Nicks. I'm actually glad the Christine McVie is gone. So, the more duets the better as far as I'm concerned. I'm very happy with the lineup as it stands today with two powerful singer/songwriters. My only regret about the whole thing is the years-long conflict between Stevie and Lindsey. I just wonder how much beautiful music we missed because they were fighting each other in their songs instead of writing then together... :distress: And, it might not be popular but I find Mick Fleetwood a creepy Svengali type and I don't like him. That reminds me that I should have started setting up the venues for concert reviews the moment they announced the 2013 tour dates. It is time consuming and unless I do one or two a day, there's no way they are all going to get done by April. That's why a lot of times what we put in these threads is the only archived information that will be on the site, because it's so much harder to maintain the news and review databases.

That's her choice, not because he is making rules over her.

love reading these little tour snippets you described in this and follow-up posts - makes me looking forward to the tour! good to hear that audience enjoyed I Know I'm Not Wrong - that' was exactly my point somewhere earlier in the thread as to why he should do That's The Way Love Goes on this year's tour.

I don't see him hamming it up after The Chain, for example which, I suppose, would rightly annoy John.

yeah from CAD's description i don't see that Lindsey's behaving any different than on his solo tours - seems like he's soaking up audience's reaction to certain songs the same as he always does. you can call it milking it and i may agree with you but i'd rather performer appreciates and interacts with the audience then just going on to the next song like audience is not even there.

he also sometimes jumps around and stomps when he's happy how a particular performance turned out and i really don't see a problem with that considering that he works his ass up there and always gives you 200%. it's just a part of him the same as the stupid skinny jeans and opened v-neck t-shirts.

Yeah I'm not generalizing though. He didn't do the grandstanding at every show. I was at the Nashville show and it was all fine. Of course, that doesn't mean he didn't do it at other shows. It was that night, as I said, in bad enough form to garner a reaction from John who is usually so low key if it wasn't for his driving bass you would forget he was there.

I wish they would add some Nashville dates to this tour. I'd much prefer to go to Nashville over Atlanta. There's no chance they are coming to Birmingham :distress:
