It says 6 discs. So there has to be at least something really special on some of those discs. And if there are, I see no reason to whine about how "again" this is. It has the potential to be just barely under the excitement of a new album if its done well.

The picture also does confirm the Rosebud Film. From the looks of things it's Rumours on vinyl and cd, two discs of outtakes (1 Recording Sessions Roughs and Outtakes, 1 More from the Recording Sessions), two discs of the Rosebud Films (just guessing on that second one since it is clearly a shot from the Santa Barbara concert), and then a replica of the tour book maybe or hopefully a new booklet.

I don't want to encourage this behavior on their part, but for an FM addict, it does look irresistible.

My friend told me that they have repackaged Star Wars every two years since it came out, so maybe we have it easy.

Yeah, I have to say that this looks really interesting. It's more that just the 2-disc reissue from a few yrs back. I hope it sells well, which would encourage the powers that be to continue reissuing other Mac items, i.e Mirage,TITN, etc.

Is the Rosebud doc DVD or just CD?

The scope of this package is a lot like the "archive collection" sets they've been releasing for Paul McCartney -- and then some. (The McCartney releases, on average, feature 3 CDs, a DVD and a book.) Looks like we're in for a treat.

I'm looking forward to seeing the full track-listing. Hopefully a press release will follow shortly.

U.S. Version of Amazon only shows 3 disc set to be released 1/29/13... I hope they release the 6 disc version in the U.S. as well. :distress:'

It looks like disc 1 is full album, disc 2 is outtakes cd, and disc 3 is the DVD.

17. Mic The Screecher
18. For Duster (The Blues)

and then the DVD of 'The Rosebud Film' and the LP.

I'm pretty sure the Amazon listing is a little messed up since the DVD is actually "disc 3" in this package and the outtakes are discs 4 and 5. But anyways.

From the looks of things, the one outtakes disc is just a retread of the second disc from the Rumours reissue from 2004. Luckily for us, there is a 3 disc "Expanded Edition" that will also be available, and will include the disc of outtakes that haven't already been released.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited for this set. I wasn't sure what to think, but it looks like they are giving us a lot of great stuff. I'm most excited to see "Keep Me There" on there. What is this "vocal verion" that I see listed? Anybody know anything about it? Also excited to see an "early take" of "Doesn't Anything Last". I really liked the version of it on the 2004 reissue and I'm intrigued to see what they have here.

My only real complaint is the live set. I'm pretty sure they were still playing stuff like "Station Man" and "Tell Me All Things You Do" in 1977 and it would have been cool to get some Buckingham Nicks era versions of those songs on CD and DVD.

This is wonderful, thank you.

I wonder if this means we are getting full versions of the extras (like Keep Me There) or just the ones we've gotten on the reissues before. Probably not.

Mic the Screecher. They ought to be ashamed of putting that on again.

Another Rumours??? As I said in other thread, Rumours is my favorite album, but enough is enough. More outttakes from the Rumours sessions? Or worse, the same ones released in 2004?? I think they have forgotten their other albums. Tango, Mirage (never re-released), the White. and of course Tusk. Sure there are also live recordings from the Tusk or Mirage tours not included in the 1980 Live album. But noooooo... it has to be.. RUMOURS!!!

The UK page looks a bit more interesting but what will include the (US 3-discs) "expanded" edition?? Anyway, sorry I don't find it wonderful. I just find they are enclosed in Rumours, are they underrating themselves?? (about the rest of their work).

It so ironic when I read Mick's book about his thoughts during 1978:

Fleetwood Mac now found itself whipped by backlash of all stripes. First there was the general backlash that perennially affects rock music's biggest acts. Ask Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, Bruce Springsteen. How do you follow, let alone top, the best work you've ever done in your life, work that almost killed you to complete?

I guess they never asked anybody :S

Let’s talk about the new music coming out. There’s another deluxe “Rumours” package coming out with more unreleased stuff. After the DVD-A and the previous deluxe release what’s left in the vaults for that?

“You’re asking the wrong guy (laughs). I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but it’s a marketing thing. I don’t have much invested in that. What my function is when these things come out – someone else finds this stuff, finds stuff that hasn’t come out before. Then it’s my job to make sure it’s OK, that it’s something I’m comfortable with… that the whole thing makes sense or even relates to the ‘Rumours’ album. Having said that I’m not a fan of repackaging things over and over again. I wouldn’t lose any sleep if this package didn’t come out, let’s leave it at that.”

It’s frustrating to fans to get that again while the surround-sound mix of “Tusk” is still sitting in the vaults.

“We did it! Getting Warner Brothers to put it out is another matter. And getting the band to want to put it out. That was my baby and there’s a certain subtext of it being the undermining factor of the brand. Maybe there’s a certain sublime level of suppression going on – not that anyone’s sitting around saying that, it’s just not on anybody’s A-list of things to do (laughs).”

Here's an article/press release, with purty pictures (the same ones from the amazon listings):

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/fleetwood-mac-rumours-super-deluxe-edition-6-disc-box-set/

I'm excited for the two versions of "Keep Me There," Stevie's demo of "The Chain," and the duet version of "Doesn't Anything Last." The pièce de résistance, however, is definitely the Rosebud DVD.

I wonder if the live disc is culled from a single show, or if it's a "best of the Rumours tour" kind of deal. I'm also wondering if the Rosebud DVD will include the "Don't Stop" and "Dreams" promo clips (which were also shot by Michael Collins and his Rosebud Films production company).

Yeah, that's definitely confusing. I'm wondering if, A) the original intention was to include the DVD in the 3-disc set and the photo mistakenly corresponds with that; B) the contents of the 3-disc set initially matched the info given to press but they decided to include the DVD at the last minute instead; or C) the DVD being displayed in the photo is just a big ol' tusk-up on someone's part. (My money's on C.)

Like BLY, the new outtakes and live discs, and the DVD are the draws for me. And I imagine that's true for most every diehard.

Me too, their voices will no doubt be stunning as this was Stevie's prime period in terms of her high notes and harmonizing consistency. I too will buy the set just for that, and dueting on Never Going Back Again will have us all wishing it was the version used on the album. I would be excited about a white album box set too if I knew there was a Mac working version of Sorcerer in the vault somewhere.

I wonder if we've now finally got "all" of Rumours and there won't be a 50th anniversary version ;)

It does look a bit irresistable. I smell a collection in the making ... Everything They Ever Released or Published Having to do with the Album Rumours. Don't get me wrong, I do love the album - but why do I allow myself to keep buying these things?!?! :] Now if Janie Hendrix, et al. would do the same with Electric Ladyland, I'd be in Hog Heaven!

The pièce de résistance, however, is definitely the Rosebud DVD.I have that somewhere already in good quality: I think VH-1 showed it in 1998, in the wake of the reunion hooha. So I'm a little more interested in this live CD. What is it? (Rhetorical question.) They've leaked a bunch of soundboard concerts already, so I hope it isn't one of those. Besides, I can't believe that this package would sell a soundboard—it would instead be a traditional taping of front-of-hall levels and audience noise.

There was a lot of 1977 stuff on the 1980 live album, so even though a lot of time has passed, I'm sure the record label can get its hands on more of that.

It's on grainy film, and the indoor stuff is very dark. Weird, I didn't know anything about this!
I was going through my CD's the other day and came across my Rumours rerelease from 2004 and was saddened because the acoustic Gold Dust Woman/If You Ever Did Believe skips on it from my carelessness.

BUT NOW THIS! This is super exciting!

And a Stevie acoustic demo of The Chain!?!!?? HELLO.
This is a real treat; and I hope it's not too expensive but it probably will be lol.

My only complaint would be how there aren't many "new" songs. But still, yay!:]

MTV/VH-1 snaked the soundstage footage for their on-air rotation (back when they played music videos 24/7)

And, again, I'm in the audience of the UC Santa Barbara show, about 15 yards from the stage, straight back from Chris' keyboard set up.

The opening acts that day were Small Wonder (a short-lived band from Canada who were playing their one & only US gig that day...5 years later while touring Canada, my band had the unbelievable opportunity to open for Burton Cummings...whose keyboard player, Jimmy Phillips, had been Small Wonder's keyboard player.) and UFO (whose guitarist, Michael Schenker left UFO just a couple of shows later).

Classic Album to be Available in Deluxe and Expanded Editions

December 12, 2012 9:00 AM ETFleetwood Mac couldn't quite come together on a new album, so the band is going with a tried-and-true classic instead: they're planning to mark the 35th anniversary of Rumours with deluxe and expanded editions that are due early next year.

The new three-disc expanded edition will include the original album, a dozen unreleased live recordings from the group's 1977 world tour and a disc of unreleased takes from recording sessions for Rumours. The deluxe version includes everything in the expanded edition, along with an additional disc of outtakes, a DVD of the 1977 documentary The Rosebud Film and a copy of the album on vinyl. The expanded edition will cost $24.98, and the deluxe edition will sell for $99.98.

Rumours has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide since its release in 1977. The new versions are due January 29th on Rhino, and will accompany Fleetwood Mac's first tour since 2009, which kicks off April 4th in Columbus, Ohio.

fair enough if you have enough Rumours cds, etc. - i get that - and i even get that 83 bucks is a lot of money, but for what you're getting, i think it's fair. you're getting 3 cds, a dvd, and an lp. i love vinyl, but what sucks today is how expensive it is, i assume because the demand is just not there. i know SWS was about $35, which is commensurate with the cost of all new artists on vinyl. i've seen them go from anywhere between 20 and 40 bucks. the black keys had a special edition lp that was mighty expensive, had to skip out on that one.

Buy the whole thing and you have 6 different gifts you can give various people: "Here's a vinyl copy of Rumours for you. Here's a Fleetwood Mac DVD for your brother."

The thing is, the collectors who will pay for this already have all the Rumours they can stand and would also pay $85 for an obscure album like Mirage. Man, you remaster Mirage, give us outtakes, and put the US Festival on DVD in one package and I will walk through the desert for it, in high heels, carrying a portrait of myself under one arm.

fair enough if you have enough Rumours cds, etc.

But doesn't that defy basic economics? The higher the demand = the higher the price.

Yes!!! I think the people who are really going to buy this for themselves would also buy an amazing packaging of any FM album, and more diehards would go out of there way for something completely new. I also think a new record would sell more than this! Of course, new music would cost more to make, but at least it keeps the band fresh and alive. As far as gifts go however, idk. I honestly don't know that many people I could give Mac gifts to and even if I did I can't buy it until after Christmas :[

We don't know that. Stop trying to get specific information. It's a secret. Just pay the $85 and don't ask questions. As MST3K used to say, "the plot of this movie is none of our business."

http://www.antimusic.com/news/12/December/13Fleetwood_Mac_Reveal_Rumours_Reissue_Details.shtml

Anti Music, December 13, 2012

Fleetwood Mac have revealed the details for their deluxe reissue plans for their 40 million selling album, Rumours.
35th anniversary reissue of Rumours will be released January 28/29 by Rhino as an expanded edition and the deluxe edition.

The expanded edition's three CDs includes the original album and the b-side "Silver Springs," a dozen unreleased live recordings from the group's '77 world tour, and an entire disc filled with unreleased takes from the album's recording sessions.

The deluxe edition includes all of the music from expanded version, plus an additional disc of outtakes a DVD that features "The Rosebud Film," a 1977 documentary about the album, and the album on vinyl.

The disc of 12 unreleased live recordings from the band's 1977 Rumours tour features performances from concerts in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Nashville and Columbia, S.C. The songs include album tracks like "The Chain," "Oh Daddy" and "Songbird" as well as "World Turning" and "Rhiannon," two tracks from the group's 1975 eponymous release.

Producers also have compiled a selection of 16 unreleased recordings from the album's sessions including early takes of "Go Your Own Way," "I Don't Want To Know" and the popular b-side "Silver Springs." There are also several demo recordings, including one for the outtake "Planets of the Universe," plus an instrumental version of "Never Going Back Again."

The deluxe edition of Rumours features three additional pieces. First is an 18-track compilation of session outtakes originally released in the 2004 reissue of the album. Next is the original album on 140-gram vinyl. Finally, there is a DVD with "The Rosebud Film." This 1977 documentary by Michael Collins includes interviews, rehearsal footage and live performances of: "World Turning," "Rhiannon," "Say You Love Me," "Go Your Own Way," "You Make Loving Fun" and "I'm So Afraid."

As previously reported, the current lineup of the band, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks will kick off a 34-date North American tour in April.

I wouldn't know. I studied English literature  lol But, I just assume the cost of production would make the prices higher if they couldn't sell as many as say a CD, or a digital copy. Having to make the production worth while? In that case wouldn't the iTunes version be the most in demand? Yet, that's typically the cheapest version you can purchase - I always assumed because it isn't a physical item. (Haven't taken any form of economics since high school, sorry.)

But that's beside the point. If you bought each item separately, it would potentially cost more than $83.

Only World Turning and I'm So Afraid are in front of a live audience. The rest were filmed on a soundstage. I've owned this for 100 years, just not in pristine form.

Does anyone know what edition of Rumours on vinyl is included in this pack, is it the Steve Hoffman pressed at PALLAS remaster that was released in 2011 or the other EU (non-pallas) edition that was released in 2009. Both editions could be purchased as single disc 33rpm or double disk 45rpm.

before ""branding " Bands had a looser set and often changed nightly , so the all the songs from Rumors were played at some point along with unreleased stuff during the tour instead of now where the same set list can last years with little or no change , " to preserve the brand" and not upset the casual fan who feels slighted by not hearing a hit from 30 years ago, so going to multiple shows were great because the set was different even if it was just the order they played them

I am so excited about the deluxe set, I just wish the 5.1 Audio DVD would have also been included.

I have a copy that I purchased when it first came out, but it seems to be out of print and going for almost $200 on Ebay.

If any of you fans have not heard it, it is amazing. The sound is amazing and crystal clear. You can hear things on it that you cannot on standard stereo sound. I just wish the record companies would have continue making them. Although, the "Say You Will" DVD audio....doesn't sound like it was mixed right and doesn't sound great. But Rumours.....the DVD still gives me chills when I hear Silver Springs....

 Happy New Year 2003 !!! best wishes for you and your family...

regarding the upcoming anniversary edition, I'm still looking for some snippets/excerpts via itunes or amazon.com; nothing so far... (there's 2 live tracks on rolling stones web site on the other hand)

but the following track-listing on hmv is interesting, because there is more details about what will be the new unreleased material (if we can trust the info provided by hmv)...

Dreams-take 2 is something that has never circulated so far ???
I can't wait to hear this early take.
another interesting thing and finally a good surprise : The Chain is sung by Stevie... sounds and looks like an acoustic studio demo; whereas I was expecting (and hoping) an alternate take with a killer guitar solo....

Too bad that the piano demo haunting and lovely of Silver Springs isn't planned on this re-re-re-issue.
The one which circulating has a lot of pops/cracks and sounds distant...
I would have hoped a crystal clear upgrade...

This release is totally unecessary! Rumours was expanded & remastered in 2004, along with Fleetwood Mac and Tusk. This is just Warner/Rhino milking the "Rumours" name. I find it hard to believe that the extra material on this new edition of Rumours is any better than what has already been released. What about all the other Fleetwood Mac albums that have seen no remastered or expanded treatment? It's about time they did something with Live, Mirage, Tango In The Night and Behind The Mask, aswell as all the albums from 1969's Then Play On to 1974's Heroes Are Hard To Find. All these albums have been severly neglected. The record company should be putting their efforts into those albums instead of milking the "Rumours" name just to cash in! They're just scraping the barrel now! They should be ashamed of themselves by the way they are poorly handling the Fleetwood Mac back-catalogue. The catalogue deserves more than this!

^ I feel the same way about getting a remastered Mirage and Tango in the Night. I'd also like a remastering of The Dance footage and to see it released in another format. Hell, I'd be interested to see all the other takes they did for The Dance that didn't make it onto the DVD/CD.

Anyway, at least this new Rumours set has a lot of previously unreleased goodies. I think it's a bit overpriced, and I wish they would have included a copy of the DVD-A... but you can't always get what you want. ;)

It's just a cash-in job. It seems Lindsey himself has said he's not too keen on this latest re-hash of Rumours either. Read the section of this interview about the new "Deluxe" Edition of Rumours. I can't believe he virtually says the same as what I've said! I hadn't seen this before...

^ I can understand the reluctance to put out the non-remastered albums individually but can't understand why they can't make a career retrospective work financially. I bought the Pink Floyd Discovery boxset which was a beautiful thing in its own right never mind the quality of the remastered albums. This is probably the only way to make the entire back catalogue work.

Though I too still waiting and wishing a Tango and Mirage expanded releases & bonus tracks, I do find interesting these Rumours tracks, whenever are not the same of the previous expanded version.

Hard to say if the extra material will be any better than the previous ones, and in my case that's not the point. I always love to listen differente versions of a song, want to know all the rehearsals and alternatives they were evaluating (like the different versions of Gold Dust Woman included in 2004). Better or not, they are interesting.

But I do believe the other albums are unfairly forgotten, too.

I just checked my cloud -- it's only showing the 'Rumours' album proper, and none of the music from the additional CDs as of yet. Glancing at my orders, the set hasn't shipped yet. So perhaps that's why.

I get a little upset with the Cloud Player though because sometimes it won't transfer a whole album. It will tell me that certain cuts couldn't be matched, so they can't be downloaded onto my device. So, like with Amy Winehouse's Frank, only about 6 cuts ended up in Cloud Player. If I bought it from Amazon and it's in my cloud, how can it not be matched?

The only "extras" are demos of songs I already know, live music that's not as good as what I already have, and a DVD of something I've already seen. I don't need/want another vinyl, another copy of the last reissue, or anything that won't give me a new perspective on the band. AND, I ESPECIALLY don't want a cheesy t-shirt I'll never wear or a poster that totally sucks.

I'd MUCH rather have a "Tusk" or, even better, "Mystery To Me" box (with a live set set featuring Dave Walker).

This screams of "Didja?"

I'm literally so excited for this. I'm pretty sure you can pre-order it tomorrow (1/28) in the U.S. as well. I already have disc 1 and disc 4 because of a 2 disc cd pack I found at Barnes&Noble and I love Listening to the Outtakes.
Second Hand News (Outtake): Includes a little countdown from Lindsey otherwise no other significant differences.
Dreams (Outtake): No major differences
Brushes (Never Going Back Again) [Instrumental Outtake]: An instrumental take on the song, features a really pretty intro, one of my favorites on the disc.
Don't Stop (Outtake): No Huge differences
Go Your Own Way (Outtake): No major differences except Mick comes in later and it doesn't give off the same energy, but still a nice listen
Songbird (Outtake): No huge differences with Christine's piano and vocals however this version features more Lindsey.
Silver Spring (Outtake): Version is 6 minutes but other than that, no huge differences
You Make Loving Fun (Outtake): Has a quirky intro and a longer instrumental section in the middle, harmonies are different and instead of saying "All I wanna do" after "YOUUUUU MAKE LOVIN FUN" they alternate between "Feelin' it's time to try" and "Beginning to wonder why"
Gold Dust Woman #1: at the beginning you can hear Lindsey screaming which is strange, at the end instead of Stevie's haunting dialogue you hear her haunting moaning!
Oh Daddy (Outtake): Nothing major except you can hear Stevie's vocals a bit which makes the song more haunting and I overall enjoy this version more than the original
Think About It (Outtake): A more rock version of the song featured on Stevie's First Solo album "Bella Donna"
Never Going Back Again (Demo): A short instrumental version of the song.
Planets of the Universe (demo): An early demo of the song from "Trouble in Shangri La"
Butter Cookie (Keep Me There) [demo]: an unfinished version of a pretty cool Christine Song
Gold Dust Woman (demo): A stripped down version of the song with just guitar and drums.
Doesn't Anything Last (demo): A very short, pretty, demo song from Lindsey obviously about Stevie
Mic the Screecher (jam): a weird little "jam session" with a screeching noise in the background
For Duster (The Blues) [jam]: a bluesy 4 minute jam session.

I'm an old school/new school hybrid, I guess. For my favorite artists, I HAVE to have a hard copy of their releases (that's why I'm really hoping FM's new tracks will be released on CD in some way or another, even if it's just as part of yet another "hits" package).

But I do also love the immediacy and convenience of digital downloads. For example: I can hear a track by Mumford & Sons, love it, go to amazon.com and buy it -- all within a matter of minutes. Really can't beat that.

The nice thing about the AutoRip feature that LittleSpacey, Elle, Michele and I are all talking about, is that when you buy a physical CD through amazon, they're now automatically adding that album to your Cloud -- at no extra charge. So, not only do you have the hard copy, but you also have a digital copy that you can transfer to an iPod, Kindle, etc. It's a pretty cool feature, IMO.

It has been very frustrating when some of Lindsey's songs have not been available as hard copies, especially since DRM features prevent you from transferring them. My car downloads music from my CDs into its own hard drive. It downloaded all of Seeds We Sow, but it won't download the bonus Sleeping Around the Corner because of licensing restrictions placed on the track. The car will only download from hard copies, not from my Kindle or Ipad, so . . . it's very hard to keep music all in one easily accessible place, to listen where and how I want. Sometimes the downloads are in lower quality (Itunes). So, yes I want the hard copy whenever possible.

Fans want hard cds and vinyl too.

As far as Amazon goes. I have no idea what they're dong. I don't know if mine has shipped yet, because I only went on Amazon after I read Little Spacey's post. The item is still listed as pre-ordered. I haven't received a shipping notification yet.

I looked on Amazon earlier and it was up for £54 with free postage. Much better than the £70 that it first went on sale for.

So even though I'd have preferred remastered versions of Mirage and Tango In The Night with bonus material, I'm still reasonably happy that this thing is coming out. Since I'm not too interested in the DVD, and I already have the 2004 Rumours release, I'm getting the 3-disc configuration.

Anyways, I decided to sneak over to the UK version of iTunes and listen to the samples up there. And I gotta say, I really dig the "acoustic duet" versions of "Never Going Back Again" and "Doesn't Anything Last".

But definitely the coolest part is hearing the vocal version of "Keep Me There". And the coolest part is that it is now pretty obvious that "Butter Cookie" was likely just a jam where Christine was singing lyrics from "Keep Me There", as both songs share lyrics. I mean, i suspected the songs shared something in common besides just similar titles, and now this confirms that suspicion.

Anyways, totally psyched to listen to the full versions of these three songs, at least.

Anyways, totally psyched to listen to the full versions of these three songs, at least.

i am also getting the 3 disc version.

A friend of mine got the 3disc version a a download from Amazon, we listened to it and I have to say the original album sounds significantly (!!!) better now than on the remaster from 2004. There's a great difference in my opionion and this alone justifies the new release (for me, at least).

I'm still wondering whether I should get the 3-disc version or the super deluxe version. Hm...

Can anyone tell me, whether there's also an upgrade on the outtakes that were already released in 2004?

Just opened it. Looks nice. Please the cd's are in cardboard sleeves (a rarity in modern boxsets.)

Just about to import into itunes and will give it all a nice long listen tomorrow. The live cd and the "more from the recording sessions" being the ones i'll be heading to listen to first.

It is the super deluxe version. I ordered it as soon as it was announced and Amazon kept to their promise of charging the release price for pre-ordered items. The price might have gone up since mine shipped. Pricing on Amazon is very much a moveable feast.

Cheers Phil:thumbsup:

I should have pre-ordered when you did! It went from £70 to £49 then and has now stuck at £54. One seller selling it for over £80 I noticed:rolleyes:

Am torn about buying this in case concert tickets go on sale as I mentioned, so might download a few tracks to stop the agony!

Omg!!!! Just listened to disk 3 More From the Recording Sessions. Love it!!!! Especially Doesn't Anything Last, the Chain (demo), & Planets of the Universe. These 3 songs make the whole package worth buying. it's weird to have a clean copy of POTU piano demo. Love Stevie's original The Chain song. So glad to finally hear it after so many years. Doesn't Anything Last is so great as a duet.

To clarify, there are two versions. One has the Rumours CD, the new disc of demos/outtakes and the live CD. 3 discs total.

The super deluxe version has the first three items, as well as the demo/outtakes CD from the 2004 Rumours remaster, a vinyl copy of Rumours, and a DVD. 6 discs total (one is vinyl, one is DVD).

Don't 100% quote me, but I believe it is a completely new and unheard version. Not the early piano demo from Crystal Visions and not the fully formed track from the 2004 reissue.

Loading it in my iTunes, it seems to be the only one with the 5:31 running time.

This version seems like an inbtw of previous version. A demo definitely, but a fully realized and completed track. Before the final 1/3 of the song "follow you down.." etc. there is a repeated "don't say it.." three times..which is new right??

HAPPY RUMOURS DAY, ALL!

Not having this yet is killing me. I streamed the live album on Rolling Stone over the weekend and it's incredible. That performances of "Rhiannon" is otherworldly.

The reviews are all over the map regarding the sound quality and what I can't determine from them is if the main album is newly remastered or just the 2004 remaster resequenced to place "Silver Springs" at the end.

For those hung up on the $90 price tag (like I was) for a package, about half of which we already have, I sprung for the iTunes version (only $30). Sure, you don't get the vinyl and it would have been nice to have the packaging and liner notes, but you still get all the great audio (Disk three is AMAZING).

I am absolutely loving it.

I think this version of NGBA with *all three* singing and harmonizing might be pure perfection.

The live footage of Over My Head is on the early/mid 90's Fleetwood Mac "Going Home" documentary. It was never included in the Rosebud film. There's also some footage of Rhiannon from that same show floating around somewhere. It may be from that same documentary or perhaps it was from The Mick Fleetwood documenatry "Two Sticks and a Drum".

For the record, this is a different piano demo of Planets of the Universe than the one that we already have.

They're very similar but not the same. This one is a little bit slower and the vocals are softer.

I love how in a lot of the early takes they'll be singing a line and you can hear them say "chorus" or "verse" as directions for the others to go. It's like real life click-track.

that early take on GYOW is at the same time interesting and horrible :p:lol:.

i was wondering about that - what song did they bring in the studio first - GYOW or Dreams? who came up with those thunder lyrics first?

this version of SHN reminds me of later LB demos like Given Thing where there's barely any words and he's just mumbling something word-like to a melody. interesting to hear songs being in the process like that.

have to agree with people saying SN's voice and singing sounded great at the time. Dreams and especially that early version of the Chain sound like pretty little folk songs.

I'd say probably GYOW was brought into the studio first, since it was played liveas early as '75, and Dreams wasn't even written until they were already in the studio working on Rumours.

HOWEVER, when they played it in '75, it had the chorus lyrics as we know them: "you can go your own way / you can call it another lonely day."

So I don't know if he changed them as a response to Stevie writing dreams, or if he changed them and then Stevie wrote dreams... or what.

interesting. those 1975 live versions sound so much more like the version we know now (without the second verse and enormous guitar solo), than that studio outtake. do we have any idea about dating of that studio outtake (is that info in the liner notes)?

And though this means i'm saying goodbye to my social life (or food) for a few weeks, i'm really happy about it. The packaging is great, but i never buy box sets so i can't really compare it with anything else. It's clean and pretty, and complete. The quality of the Rosebud DVD is not mind-blowing but good. Hey everybody. So...

About the box set version, what is the track-by-track commentary like? Is it just little anecdotes? Or something more in depth? And does it cover just the regular album, or do they cover the extras, like "Doesn't Anything Last", "The Chain" demo, and "Keep Me There"?

And anyways, not that anybody cares, but I gotta say the "new" outtakes disc is soooo much better than the 2004 disc. For one, I think "Keep Me There" with the Christine vocal is great. So interesting. The demo of "The Chain" is just amazing. Both of these songs are so revelatory to the story of the classic version of "The Chain" that we all know.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but you got Stevie's chorus from her version of "The Chain", then you got the ending of Christine's "Keep Me There" along with the guitar part from Lindsey's "Lola".

Anyways, besides those I really like the "acoustic duet" versions of "Never Going Back Again" and "Doesn't Anything Last". I gotta say though, I'm kinda surprised there even is two versions of "Doesn't Anything Last", as it just kinda seems like a snippet Lindsey never quite worked out. Maybe something that he threw away quick. But it seems like something they actually kinda worked on.

Overall, I can't understand why something like "Butter Cookie" was released in 2004 when they could have released this proper version of "Keep Me There". It seems like "Butter Cookie" was a jam with Christine singing some of the lyrics from "Keep Me There". What would be the point of putting out "Butter Cookie" over "Keep Me There". Although at least now we understand why it was titled "Butter Cookie (Keep Me There)". I gotta wonder with some of the early versions of other songs. The versions on this disc are so much more interesting than the ones they put on the older one. It's almost as if they compiled the 2004 version with the intent of making sure they still had some good stuff to release later. Which isn't to say the 2004 version was bad though. I'm still glad we got "Think About It", "Planets Of The Universe", "Doesn't Anything Last", and "For Duster".

Listening to the various incarnations of Go Your Own Way, it occured to me for the first time how absolutely clever Lindsey was with this song. Perhaps it was on purpose - perhaps it was an accident, but he created a chorus that Stevie could sing along to with gusto, and really get into. Even though sometimes she didn't, it's always the best when Stevie and Lindsey would both fire those lines off at each other with ferocity.

I don't know that it was necessarily written before they joined Fleetwood Mac - but it was performed on the White album tour. Could have been written anytime before then.

Also, the second verse with the infamous 'packin' up, shackin' up' line wasn't present during the early live performances.

Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumors' to re-enter Top 10 over 35 years after release

The band's 1977 collection debuted at number 77 on February 27 of that year, meaning the record will re-enter almost 36 years after its initial outing.

However, it wasn't until the following year (January 1978) that Rumors finally hit number one on the UK chart, reports The Official Charts Company.

To date, Fleetwood Mac's Rumors has spent a total of 493 weeks on the Official Albums Chart, making it the most charting collection in British music history.

It is trailed by Queen's Greatest Hits at 484 charting weeks and Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell with 474 weeks.

Fleetwood Mac's Rumors is due to re-enter the UK Top 10 this Sunday (February 3) after a deluxe re-issue was released earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Mick Fleetwood has confirmed that the band will headline some UK shows later this year, and teased the possibility of a new album.

I don't know how they can stand to still talk about all of that. If I were them I wouldn't be able to control myself from rolling my eyes or looking otherwise disappointed any time the typical Rumours questions popped up.

Now, if they wanted to ask something NEW about Rumours. (if there is anything to ask) that'd be nice. Even if someone just asked what their favorite song on the album was. That's still boring but at least it's not "so you were breaking up. how was that?"

What's great is that you hear that you get the chorus CHORDS from "The Chain" from "keep me there" -- but the lyric and melody from Stevie's "the chain" laid over "Keep me there." In fact, it almost sounds note-for-note. like they just swiped the Chris vocals (and rhodes) from "Keep Me there"'s chorus and plopped the "you dont love me now..." words over it. It's a fascinating give and take and evolution in song-writing study.

Yes, they could ask about the demos on the new box set. They'd be asking about old songs, but the information we'd be getting would be new, at least.

Although, earlier this week when a music reviewer talked about the "you can roll like thunder" line and how it was a snipe at Dreams, I made fun of him for not knowing the GYOW lyrics:laugh:. Even if SYW didn't sell what they wanted, the new album release got them a lot of publicity too. So, if they want a tie in, they could always have gone that route.

Oh, I don't disagree. I'm just thinking of the difference between the level of promotion we're currently seeing as opposed to what we saw for Unleashed. And they still have the two new songs for added promotion as we get closer to April.

I wish Stevie's IYD have this kind of promotion in 2011.

So how are the liner notes by Stevie and Lindsey? Anything interesting?

Also, apparently the lyrics to Second Hand News used to be "won't you lay me down in the frontyard and let me do my stuff" (or maybe it's junkyard?).

Lol! The liner notes are amazing! I loved their comments & the more personal insight. For instance, Lindsey saying GDW is one of his fav songs of Stevie's and Stevie's echoing how Lindsey & Chris were musical counterparts. I also liked Stevie saying NGBA was his Landslide and that in Dreams & GYOW they were really saying the same thing.

Listening to the different GDW takes, it really is just as haunting a song as Rhiannon is. Beautiful.

I was at the Outback today and Rhiannon came on and within 10 minutes they also played someone's cover of You Make Loving Fun. I am so proud of the depth of diversity within this band.

Is there any other band where you have this many people with different strengths and styles coming together and not in a haphazard way, but in a way where they so enhance the beauty in each other's unique qualities? There are more talented bands to be sure, but I don't think anyone else boasts such variety to such great effect. I can't exult them as a group enough.

So totally and completely agree. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I apoligise in advance for massive spelling spacing or grammar errors. Im using an ipad and typing a long review on touch screen is torture.

I finally picked this up. It's just such an amazing release. The chain and keep me there are 100 percent equivalent to us getting 2 new songs released. So that is the perfect hold over until the 2 or 3 actual new songs get released. And the one is a new Christine movie song so that's a win win.

the live album is 90 percent perfect. Rhiannon and world turning are my favorite s. for as many times as world turning and gold dust woman have been part of shows or tours that have gotten official releases and not made the audio versions, it's about damned time they both are here. As chili said earlier the only song that's still not properly officially recorded and should've been is you make loving fun. Dance version doesn't cut it. So 5 percent loss for not being the full show And another 5 for YMLF being one of the exclude. The rest they left off doesnlt bother me. And I should freaking add 5 points back for them finally having the balls to keep landslide off the cut. I'm so afraid would've most likely been awesome. Might've been my favorite released version, but we have enough of those to keep me happy. Same with oh well.

Now the new demos disc is probably overall better then the 04 disc, but it's great we have both and it's great that it really is all different.

The chain trilogy is the highlight of this disc and the whole reissue. I agree with others in being puzzled how none of this made the 04 version but this is well worth the wait. Gave us a great gift we didn't know we had to look forward to in 2013. And I love how they all follow each other. I will say I might like the mumbled Christine singing to hearing the actual words. I'm shocked no one has mentions the reapperence of the if you ever did believe lyrics at the end of the chain. She sang those lyrics in every demo she did that year apparently. But it fits the end of this song way better then at the end of that gold dust woman demo. The creation of the official chain is one of the most fascinating things in the macs history.

The rest of this disc is not shabby at all. I love the addition of Stevies vocals on NGBA and the lack of her vocals on IDWTK. Seriously I wish both of those songs were reversed and released as they are on this new disk. Not just ver vocal but the new instrumentation on ngba is incredible. My 2 least favorite songs on rumours vastly improved. The only thing missing is AGAIN, you make
Loving fun. That song has not fared well on this package.

But for me the burning question is this. Does the main feature sound any different to how it did on the 2004 remaster?

If you mean the actual Rumours album itself, then no, at least not to me. It sounds exactly like the 2004 reissue. Even "Silver Springs" is the same version as on the 2004 reissue, and not the single mix, even though it's identified as a B-side in the liner notes. The only difference is that this song is tacked onto the end after "Gold Dust Woman".

Not sure if the difference is due to listening to the mp3 rip of the 2004 re-issue & having the "mixed/mastered FOR iTunes" 2013 version; but I thought the new version sounds light years better than the 2004 re-issue. I actually sat down and PURPOSELY listened to the album all the way through both versions. (although I did flip-flop "Songbird" & "Silver Springs" in the running order of the new version)

Again, it's incredibly difficult for me to say nice things about Rumours, but I thought the new version sounded great. Heard things in the songs I never heard before on any other version.

Pickin my deluxe set up from the record store tomorrow - special order. Whoot! Didn't wanna wait for Amazon. My co-worker let me listen to his iPad yesterday, it had all the cuts on there from Spotify. There were several "gems" for me, such as The Chain demo. Don't recall ever having heard that before, but then again, these days - my recollector seems to be a bit worn out. Co-worker gave me heck for not simply downloading all the cuts on account of the high price of the full-meal-deal. If Spotify had the DVD available for download, I probably would have gone for that. Thanks for all the reviews and info - I had been waiting to hear about it before making my decision to buy. Between this, and other threads here, and my co-worker's iPad - I simply could not resist!!!

We discussed this in the thread specific to the song in the Stevie forum, I think. But yeah, it seems like a piece she really wanted to use but didn't know exactly where it should go - so she just kept adding it onto everything. I think it fits best on the end of If You Ever Did Believe like it ultimately ended up, but it definitely is a better match hear than it is on GDW.

The rest of this disc is not shabby at all. I love the addition of Stevies vocals on NGBA and the lack of her vocals on IDWTK.

Some of the flourishes on NGBA - the electric guitar, the awesome intro, etc - are really amazing. I am glad in a way that they weren't on the official release because the simplicity is part of the beauty, but I'm also very glad we got to hear them.

I finally got this today for my upcoming birthday. I absolutely love and adore this set sooo much. This is my first FM record album. It's so cool sitting there playing it on a record player like so many did back in '77.

Listening to the live album right now - Oh Daddy....

Congratulations! I was listening to vinyl last night, too, and Rumours sounds stunning. I love that inky dark silence at the beginning of a new, clean record.

Rumours Deluxe Edition (Warner Bros. / Rhino)

Reviewed by Raoul Hernandez, Fri., Aug. 16, 2013

In the parlance of Californication, ****ing and punching. Rock & roll's ultimate breakup album – four of five group members rending a pair of intraband partnerships and the fifth, founding drummer Mick Fleetwood, about to sunder his own marriage by taking up with Stevie Nicks – endures because it storms romantic volatility through a prism of rockstar sex, drugs, and a Beatlesque triad of singer-songwriters. Christine McVie's sweet spot ("Songbird") between the he said/she said of the UK survivors' adopted Left Coast folk-pop duo, Buckingham ("Never Going Back Again") and Nicks ("I Don't Want to Know"), melts into layers of acoustic urgency and electric hush as animated by Fleetwood and John McVie's heart-valve rhythms. The No. 8 bestseller of all time appended an hour's worth of outtakes and demos to the 2004 reissue (Nicks' early "Gold Dust Woman"), a trove now doubled on this 4-CD/DVD/vinyl LP set, including un-ironic Lindsey/Stevie duet "Doesn't Anything Last." An hour live on the ensuing world tour fills out the fourth disc, well-scrubbed to start – Christine McVie's "Oh Daddy," a slice of English balladry fit for Westminster Abbey – but exploding on Nicks' eight-minute spook and spell "Rhiannon," from Rumours' eponymous precursor. Finally, a 30-minute video promo finds the 1977 quintet on a soundstage crackling through the hits, though an unidentified bowl appearance with high-flying Lindsey Buckingham guitar showcase "I'm So Afraid" borders on acid rock.

Fleetwood Mac also enjoyed a comeback with the album "25 Years: The Chain" sitting at #1 for two weeks. The 1997 hit "Rumours" also nabbed a Top 10 place in the Singles Chart after a 33 year absence. The 1960s rock-group finishes the year claiming two spots on the final Albums Chart; #9 with "25 Years: The Chain Box Set" and #35 with "Rumours: 35th Anniversary Edition".

Whoever wrote the article must be seriously lazy..."1997 hit Rumours" (only 20 yrs off) "1960's rock group" They were a blues band until the early 70's Its' nice that they are getting some press but this is one of the worst write ups I've seen lately (fact wise)...This was asked in another thread but do the reissues count as "rumours" sales or is it just the original release that counts...
