LISTEN: Two Tracks from "Rumours Revisited" Fleetwood Mac Mojo Magazine Issue
The Mad Mackerel have posted two tracks from the upcoming "Rumours Revisited" FREE CD that comes with the January, 2013 issue of Mojo Magazine...
Yeasayer "Second Hand News"
The Liars "The Chain"
There's also "Songbird" as a download on their site The Mad Mackerel
Both VERY different from the original... Songbird is lovely though. Remember they are re-imagined versions, so they weren't going for exact replicas...
Looking forward to the magazine, and of course your reactions to the covers.

Nice. I'm excited. The timing could have coincided with a new project though, but this is good.

Oh my goodness Mojo. I just want to buy that issue in advance. I don't want to subscribe to your magazine. Stop making my life miserable. You'd make more money if you let me buy directly from you rather than going on Ebay to get it from someone else.

Mojo tells FM's story through video clips, 11-26-2012.
http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/2012/11/fleetwood_mac_the_road_to_rumo.html
"There are no second acts in American lives," opined F. Scott Fitzgerald. Lucky for Mick Fleetwood that he was born in Redruth in the far south-west of England, for few careers can have had more false finales than that of the beanpole drummer. Given fat chance when deserting mentor John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with bassist pal John McVie, but forging gold-star late-'60s blues-rock status as Fleetwood Mac, featuring the incredible Peter Green's spectral Les Paul; washed up when Green tripped out and shipped out in 1970 but soldiering nobly on with the help of canny hires Christine Perfect (later, McVie) and Bob Welch until the providential arrival of West Coast singer-songwriters Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks changed the game again. Fleetwood Mac's unlikely revival, peaking with the mega success of 1977's astonishing Rumours album, is explored in this month's MOJO magazine, as the group look back on a period of hope and heartbreak, music and madness, as love-lives were torn asunder in the pursuit of the muse. Audio-visual companion by Clive Prior...

Just bought this today:blob2:
So great to see FM on the cover and looking forward to hearing the CD of other artists covering their songs. There were only two copies left, apparently they flew off the shelves.
Have only flicked through it but there don't appear to be any new photos (most recent is a tour photo from 2009). Don't want to spoil it for people who buy a copy but just one small thing - Lindsey says that he would turn off the radio if he heard a track from Rumours playing!! Stevie wasn't too thrilled when she was told about it and had a bit of a go at him;)
Nice new interview with Chris, and a tribute to Bob Welch.
Hope everyone manages to get hold of a copy.

I can listen to the studio versions of Rumours songs on the radio just fine. What I'd like to be able to do is turn off the concert when I hear those songs on stage, Lindsey, especially during a solo show.

Yet the man has no problem flogging those worn out songs to death for these endless Rumours rehash tours.
Nice new interview with Chris
Somehow, it really caught me off guard that Chris granted an interview! I guess I figured that she'd washed her hands entirely of Fleetwood Mac. I so miss her being a part of the Mac sphere.

Lindsey (discussing what he'd do if he heard a song from Rumours on the radio now):
"My kneejerk reaction would be to change the station....God! Why is that? I guess it's because it might dredge up the subtext around the songs, and that's not always pleasant."
Stevie's reaction:
"Oh Lindsey, what's the matter with you?" :D

The guy who wrote the article had interviewed her before during The Dance era, she told him then that she was leaving the band to move back to England.
She's asked 11 questions, nothing too mind blowing (again I don't want to ruin it for people who would prefer to read it themselves) but I was interested to read which three albums were her favourites.

Not really. She didn't say much that we haven't heard already since she left, but it's still an interesting read.
I won't give away the album choices, other than to say that I thought she would have chosen Tango In The Night with 'Everywhere' and 'Little Lies' being such big hits for her - and the album selling so well...but nope, that wasn't one of her picks.

I know she said Rumours. She always has. As long as she says Tusk too (even though her songs on Tusk weren't outstanding), I am fine with it. I don't care about her third pick. HAHTF or MTM are great.

Ha! I'm disappointed. Lindsey likes to say that they all told him it was their favorite album in recent years. I would venture to say that only Mick and Stevie have told him this -- and Stevie didn't even actually say that, exactly. She said positive stuff about Tusk, but never said it was her favorite, I'd wager. It's just wishful thinking on his part. I don't think John or Christine ever told him any such thing.

I picked this up today at the counter of my local music shop. I haven't read the article yet (not expecting anything interesting) but I thought I'd get it for CD of covers. I've just reached YMLF and it's pretty bad... I like some of the bands on it (especially Yeasayer) but all these covers are just slowed down, echo-y and boring. I don't think the overall spirit has been captured at all.

It wasn't a case of 'I know something you don't know' I'm not that petty - I just wondered whether people wanted to find out for themselves.
Anyway her choices were:
1. Rumours
2. Fleetwood Mac (White album)
3. Mystery To Me (which she said was a distant third after the other two)
Slightly surprised Tango In The Night wasn't her third choice as 'Everywhere' and 'Little Lies' were massive hits and it was a big seller. Maybe it was because the atmosphere in the band was so bad?

She kind of breaks my heart a little with that, but ok.
And the white album needs a little love, anyway.

The white album is respectfully represented IMO.. they've got Rhiannon, Landslide, ISA... used to do Over My Head. Without Chris that leaves MM and Crystal.... I really don't need to hear Blue Letter when there are so many better choices from other albums.
I'd like to see Mirage or Tango get more love.

Well, me too, but I can understand why Christine wouldn't be the one offering those albums her primary affection.
From Christine's perspective, considering OMH and later SYLM kicked the whole thing off for this line up of the band, I can understand why it's one of her favorite albums. Not to mention it's the first time she felt that chemistry, where she just started playing a song she just wrote and Lindsey and Stevie automatically started singing along, without rehearsal of any kind. I mean it brings that memory back to her, so I can see her selecting it.
MTM had her Why which is probably on her list of favorite songs. Plus, it was a solid album all the way through for her and Bob. Selfishly though, I wanted her favorite albums to be from 1975 and beyond. Unreasonable I realize. The woman had a long career before that, but I'm biased.

Mojo calls Fritz "an acid rock band" I think not.
"All through Fritz, Lindsey and I were dating other people. I'm not sure we would have even become a couple if it wasn't for us leaving that band. It pushed us together."
"I'd get home at 6pm, fix dinner and straighten up, 'cos they'd been smoking dope and working on songs. Then from nine until three, I joined Lindsey on the music. Then I went to bed, got up and went back to my waitressing job."
"I scraped togetehr every dime I could find, went to Tower Records and brought all of the FM records. And I listened to them. Lindsey did not. He listed to the songs that had been hits in England."
"Mick was dressed beautifully with a fob watch in his vest pocket. John was so handsome. We went to dinner and we so had the best time. And I kept thinking, Oh my God, I can be in this band." [Oh, John is handsome now?]
"I think there were times when John was railing against something that was good for FM but not good for his ego. But sometimes I could go too far. I've always been the troublemaker in FM."
Keith Olsen: "I remember John coming up to me in the studio and saying, 'We used to be a blues band,' And I said to him, 'But John, this a much shorter road to the bank.'"
"Lindsey and I were fast, rich, beautiful and successful. And there is nothing like success to undermine . . . things."
In the studio Stevie: "I used to sit therer and read, corchet or draw while all this was going on and I would make my little suggestions, like a wingman."
The time they ate marijuana cookies Stevie says: "We sat there for hours just staring at each other."
Lindsey on cocaine: "I was never the guy buying the stuff. On Rumours, I don't think I went for more than 36 hours without sleep. Though I can't speak for the rest of the band and certainly not Mick."
Things got bad at the Record Plant. They were going crazy. Mick said, "One night I turned up and I saw John McVie, on his own, trying to master a bass part. This very well-grounded Scotsman was on his hands and knees praying, with a picture of his guru and a bottle of brandy in front of him. And John was so not that sort of guy. I knew then that we had to get out of there."
Intro to the chain is a reworking of Lola My Love. Hey, I don't think any of our musicians on the Ledge have ever said that!! I know longer trust you guys to tell me things.
LB: "I actually think FM is a better recorded album than Rumours. But we always knew Rumours was good and expected a certain outcome. I don't think anyone could have predicted the Michael Jackson world we'd find ourselves in."
Stevie: "I can be walking down the street and hear something and think, 'What's that? And a block or two later I realize I am hearing Mick's drums and John's bass, and it's a FM song playing. I can actually feel it in the ground. And it always makes me smile."
Um, this ^ statement makes me wonder several things:
1. What Rumours song lasts for one or two blocks?
2. Stevie walks fast enough that the same song is playing for one or two blocks, while she's walking?
3. It takes Stevie one or two blocks to recognize a Fleetwood Mac song?
4. When Stevie recognizes the Fleetwood Mac song after one or two blocks, she notices it because of the rhythm section? She never recognizes her own voice??
Don't get me wrong. It takes me a while to identify an FM song. I know it's FM but it takes me about 20 seconds sometimes to figure out what song it is, if I am in a public place and there is surrounding noise. So, it takes me awhile, but it doesn't take one or two blocks? And I usually recognize Chris, Stevie or Lindsey's voice -- although I don't recognize Lindsey as quick as I recognize the other two. I don't know.
Oh my goodness: "Christine sold her house in L.A., got divorced, went back to England, burned every bridge she had," says Buckingham with unexpected vehemence." [Please Lindsey, get a grip man. Did she make you cry, make you break down, shatter your illusions of love. Is it over now, do you know how to pick up the pieces...]
Mick: "FM were practically finished in 1974. I drove past that rustic hippy supermarket in Laurel Canyon a while ago. And I thought to myself. What on earth would have happened to me, to all of us, if I hadn't stopped there that day."

This band is just the band that keeps on giving with these one liners! Forget "Kids Say the Darnedest Things"! We have our own FM version!
I love your analysis of the Stevie comment about recognizing an FM song! The only reasoning I can give behind her comment is that sometimes, when I'm in my town center (strip mall like, e.g. Target, etc.) they play instrumental versions of FM - and the speakers are outside along the entire sidewalk. Are those blocks...no lol, but that's all I have!

You make a good point, because normally when you walk a block or two, you would pass many different structures and not just one building, from which the same song was blasting. Unless the place is the kind of strip mall that you mentioned.
Of course, Stevie was probably just walking on her treadmill! Michele
