Does anyone know exactly when the documentary will be released. I know she's been making the film festival rounds, but I've not heard a release date. Will it be on the big screen or HBO perhaps? Or will it go straight to DVD? I'm personally hoping for a cable release to HBO or Showtime, like the Elton John/Leon Russell documentary.

I was wondering the same thing. On Facebook there's a rumor that it's up to her management and she has left the project  I don't get it, she was so happy about it...

^^ I think that rumor came from Dave's comment on twitter in response to a fan asking if the documentary is going to get released on DVD. Dave said Stevie's management are the ones to ask now. If it's all in management's hands now, doesn't sound too promising to me.

I've been told by a credible source, that the problem is not with management or anyone else on Stevie's end -- instead, they're having trouble finding a distributor.

That's the purpose of screenings at film festivals. It's the case with all independent film not tied to a film studio or in this case, part of a record deal at a record company. You show it and hope someone picks it up for distribution either in theatre or straight to dvd release.

Could she do it herself? I for one would love to see it. Maybe a digital release?

What's the difference between downloading it on a Torrent and downloading it on iTunses, though?

Either way you've got a digital copy of it. But thorugh iTunes, it'd be marketed toward a lot more people.

Torrented VIds are better quality. They will give you a compressed crappy quality like YouTube then a Full DVD quality.

Unless Icrap gives you a choice of quality.

This. I'm not sure how it all works, if they need a distributor when released digitally exclusive through Itunes & Amazon - It would seem that Itunes and/or Amazon would by default become the defacto distributors. This seems like the easiest and most modern way to get the doc out to fans. And on the business side Stevie & Dave would most probably get a bigger cut of the sales cutting out the middlemen. If only 20% of people who bought IYD plucked down for a HD digital purchase of the IYD Doc (which go for $17.99 to $19.99 on Itunes) she could potentially sell @20K copies. However, realistically the majority of Stevie's fan base may not be Itunes downloading demographic...but who knows. "They" also may have been holding out for a bigger unveiling and have shelved the Doc.

If Stevie & co. are looking for a bigger pay day by selling rights to cable channel, that would probably help secure a deal with a distributer to sell it on DVD & digitally later . That's how Stevie & FM marketed their concert films in the 80's & 90's & SYW documentary in 2004. Exclusive cable debuts followed by video/dvd releases. With "Live In Chicago" Stevie had a deal up front with PBS's Soundstage which approached her first.

I agree on the older Stevie/FM fans that are not up to speed with the latest technology .They are probably still spinning LP's<CD's and watching VHS video tapes.I'm not a fan of the cell phone or texting.

They are NOT going to reach all of her fanbase with the digital only format.
Alot of friends my age and older cant stand computers. They rather spin vinyl.

I refused to spend anything more then $5.00 for a digital copy from Icrap .Netflix and Amazon.I rather have the silver disc in my hands.

I suspect that they're having trouble finding a distributor because... it's just not that good of a documentary. Don't get me wrong- I loved it as a fan and I savored every insight and random moment captured on film. But the target demographic for this type of release is the casual fan and/or the movie watching public at large. A straightforward concert film is a no-brainer; you just release and promote it like an album. However, a documentary about music is a different animal, especially since the audience for watching a concert performance is not necessarily the same audience interested in watching a 90-minute documentary. It fails as a music release because it, in fact, contains relatively little "finished" pieces of music. It fails as a documentary because it wasn't edited very well and it doesn't really have a plot. It only succeeds as a souvenir for über fans, which is an extremely limited base.

Upon further reflection, the one thing that separates IYD from other artist-centric documentaries that I've seen is that Stevie may be a bit too guarded for this to really become a profoundly interesting documentary. Here we see the artist at work, but always perfectly poised, hair and makeup always flawless, and she talks to the camera about, well... what she chooses to talk about. What we don't see is her humanity- her flaws, her reflections on daily life, where she stands politically, her motivations, her fears, her struggles, her personal life, etc. I want to see Stevie wearing pajamas and bunny slippers. I want to see her walking on the treadmill watching soaps. I want to see her throw a tantrum or yell at someone. I want to see more about her family life, her brother, her relationships, etc. This is what makes documentaries about people interesting. Indeed, the focus of the documentary is about making an album... but really any musician can just cobble together a bunch of studio footage and put it out as a documentary. Indeed, the difference between a so-so documentary and an exceptional documentary is the audience's emotional investment in the subject matter.

What you want to see is a documentary about Stevie Nicks the person. The IYD doc is about the making of IYD and so there's no talk about political views or showing her in pj's and bunny slippers (lol) or her family life. That's all personal and has nothing to do with IYD. I don't recall seeing Lindsey (or any of them) in pj's and slippers in the Tusk doc because it was about Tusk.

I'm just sad that this movie which she was so proud of might never see the light of day. Hence the fans who didn't/couldn't go to any of the screenings and are dying to see it (I'm one of them) are left out :(

You're right. I took someone who is a casual fan at best, and he thought it was really interesting. He knows Stevie from the radio but doesn't own a single album. He thought the look into how she made the CD was fascinating and is waiting for a DVD release so he can see it again and show it to friends.

Interesting viewpoint. I haven't seen the documentary but your comments about Stevie being "perfectly poised" reminds me of Celine Dion's recent documentary of her recent world tour. It was very interesting to watch but I always felt that Dion was performing for the camera. I kept waiting for that one moment when she dropped the F bomb or offered a genuinely spontaneous reaction to something. But that moment never came. I guess it must be a Diva thing! :D

There is no rule saying that you can't have a plot as well as a deeper exposition of the main character. It's called character development! And you are deluded if you believe that her political views and personal life do not affect or inform her music. Of course they do! I'm not saying that I want to watch 12 minutes of her walking on the treadmill. But it would have been interesting to see how she balanced living her everyday life with her work life, especially when it all occurred under one roof. I don't think it was a good idea to devote a segment to every track on IYD because they weren't all particularly interesting back-stories. I would have much rather seen a more holistic approach that only touched upon a handful of specific songs sporadically throughout the movie. The creative/emotional process of making the album should have been the main plot, not 13 individual sub-plots that are somewhat hit or miss.

Bite your tongue :p Upon seeing the film, my first snapshot observation was how Stevie's In Your Dreams Documentary was overall better and heads and tails more visually compelling and interesting than Fleetwood Macs' "Destiny Rules" - the making of SYW. Talk about heavy editing, most of the meat was gutted out of "Destiny Rules" to leave behind a fairly benign documentary. This from a band notorious for their soap drama -- you know there were many more temper tantrums, ultimatums and laser hot arguments left on the cutting room floor. Talk about potential. But alas, ego's, managers, & lawyers intercede and have final editing veto.

In this context, perhaps its important to remind ourselves that Stevie Nicks' aesthetic has always been, get some ribbons and some bows, and construct a beautiful package, even sometimes when it's tragedy wrapped inside a heart shaped box. Besides, Stevie perfected the cult of personality, the images on the wall. Stevie would never show her warts and all - she's never been that kind of artist. Even though her songs are personal, they are cloaked, and often times she seldom entirely reveals the whole story behind her songs, leaving some mystery. It's that mystery that captivates many of Stevie's fans. We're left with our interpretations and the rumors remain. Also this documentary was not intended to be a deconstruction of Stevie Nicks herself, so I wasn't expecting or anticipating that at all. That said, the vignettes of "Soldier's Angel" and "New Orleans" are not only the most stirring, and probably the heart of this documentary, They're the most socially and politically nuanced Stevie has ever come across, on record or film. I loved the small peek into Stevie's house, watching several captivating candid moments, the "to die" for beautiful never before seen still-shots scattered throughout, dress up music video montages. It was all throughly entertaining. Stevie narrates every song with glimpses (some small, some big) behind the inspiration & motivation for the songs. Yeah, theres little conflict, but what do you expect with this cast - Dave genuinely seems simpatico - when he's not producing, playing, or talking with little inflection, he's looking for his next martini moment. While Glen (the hippy) disappears than reappears out of nowhere higher than a kite;). This doc is clearly Stevie's show and she shines. Not only is it about making a record old school, as Stevie likes to remind us, for me, it felt like a love letter to her fans. A showcase & highlights reel of Stevie in the "best year of her life" making IYD.

You're right it may not be an exceptional documentary. But I'd squarely critique it as a solid B. And most importantly Stevie fans on this board & beyond would eat it up with glee. So as far as getting the doc officially released to the public, they are probably scrambling about how to market it -- even though Stevie is a legendary artist -- it cannot be denied that IYD wasn't a mainstream hit record and therefore this has become such a niche project. But it deserves to be released through some channels & not just sitting on a shelf somewhere in "The Vault" - where Stevie stashes all her other goodies.

Now I myself haven't yet seen the IYD Doc but I'm sure I'll agree with you. Its a shame she doesn't show just the 'person' that she is , that is 'Stevie' not just the muscial artist the acutal person. I think that in itself would be a nice breath of fresh air. That things aren't always perfect or have to 'appear' perfect to the public. Sometimes I think she thinks back to the Tusk doc maybe (of course if in her memory she does recall it??) they didn't have to show us everything personal just some thing here or there to make us feel like we are there & have some understanding of Stevie not just our (or your perceptions) of her. They could've also included 'live' songs recorded during the tour which would've been the more 'finished' versions of the songs included in the doc. Also the dvd should have the video's for the songs as well. There's always was to package things to make the more appling but I guess they wanted to go the more boring route or they don't think it'll sell very well. Sad, it seems they missed the boat it probably should've been included in a deluxe package with the IYD cd when it was released. Another missed opportuinity.

Stevie's been saying that the purpose of the documentary and not including full songs was to hopefully get people to buy the album. But in order to get people to buy the album, the documentary needs to be seen by a wide audience. Playing the festival circuit only won't cut it, it needs a bigger platform. Releasing the film as a stand alone DVD may not even be enough to entice sales of the album, since the album wasn't a massive success, there's no reference point to make you want to see the documentary. Had the album been a huge success, the audience would basically have already been build in. The documentary needs a large platform as a kicking off point. It needs to first be picked up by one of those TV stations that will air it repeatedly in north america, the UK and Australia or wherever, but in an edited form. Don't show all your cards! That would garner enough eyeballs seeing the film and hopefully want to see more of it... and again hopefully sell the album. Maybe what she's got on the back burner with Oprah could do the trick. Not sure what Oprah's crew filmed in Tampa earlier this year, whether it was just segments of her live show, or the whole thing. Speculation is that Stevie will take part in Oprah's Master Class or something like that. If the focus of that program on Stevie was the album, the making of documentary and the touring behind it, then that's a worthy platform to bring attention to the overall project. Stevie would need to somehow make this film available to the public to purchase shortly afterwards, otherwise it would have been all for nothing.

Aside from that, there are only two ways I can see this coming out on DVD. 1. Stevie needs to strike a deal with Warner Bros. for the film (she's covered for recorded music) and they would need to be the manufacturer and/or distributor. The DVD could be sold direct to the public through their on-line store - as a stand alone. 2. Make that deal with Warner's for the film but re-package the IYD album and DVD together, maybe throw one or two bonus tracks on the disc, and/or re-release it with all the music videos included and either re-release it properly with full on distribution or again, use the Warner store to sell it direct to the public. Make it a limited edition!

When you think about it, the way they've made the film with only clips of the tunes from the album, it's as if the documentary should have been seen first, getting the people excited for the album... Then release the album. But since it's kind of backwards, and nothing all that exciting on a massive scale to bring attention to the film... It needs something big!

That's how I see it.

Macman, I love your idea #2! One can only hope WB will be that smart.

For what it's worth, I left a brief message with Stevie's management saying that I hope this project hasn't been shelved, and that I'm sure I speak for many fans that are still waiting to see it.

Sigh. So frustrating.

I'm not talking about rules, the IYD doc has always been promoted as 'the making of IYD, the album' hence no bunny slippers. As for character development, there's no need for that. This is about the making of an album, working in the studio. The character of Stevie doesn't need exposition, this is about her work.
It would be stupid to think that her political views and her life wouldn't affect her music.... it's what she writes about! So no, I'm not deluded, never have been where Stevie's music is concerned. Her music comes from her life. Again, what you want to see is Stevie the person but what you get to see is Stevie the artist. In your opinion it would have been more interesting to see Stevie behind the scenes so to speak but she'll never show her true self in front of a camera. She never has and never will and that's the mystical side of her.

This is true. I recently bought the This is 40 soundtrack on Itunes to save $5.00, but then when I put it in my Amazon cloud, Amazon automatically upgraded the quality of it (after matching it in their library) and I noticed the difference and thought if it's something you really care about, then you aren't saving money through Itunes' compression.

Not to mention the restrictions you have watching your Itunes purchases on other devices.

I don't recall seeing Lindsey (or any of them) in pj's and slippers in the Tusk doc because it was about Tusk.

But you make me think of the Tusk photo shoot and how fun that was to watch (even bad quality) because of the silly spontaneity.

Actually, the director claimed Stevie & Lindsey were the ones who edited all the good stuff out of DR. He said the "fight" scene when Stevie got up & left the room & Lindsey went after her - was actually a lot more intense and that he begged them to let him keep it in - he felt it really showed their passion about the project. But, they didn't want their fans to see them in that light or in that real of a context - for whatever reason.

Michele

I 100 percent agree. Also If you hard drive, pen drive,SD/flash drive crashed .You are out of luck.Plus I don't trust those cloud drives either .You never know they might go belly up like Megaupload did in the beginning of the year.

I rather wait for the physical DVD to get release if it ever will happen.

I rather loose the physical DVD then the crappy files from Icrap.LOL
Atlease I will feel better to get another physical copy.So far I have not misplaced any Stevie/FM CD's or DVD's.

I'm still looking for my Christmas music 45's that I packed away when I moved in here 3 years ago. They will show up when I'm not looking.

Stevie is also a business woman too .She will get it out if she pushes it.
That was nice that she tagged along going to the screenings to promote the docu and do the Q%A's with us fans.

Also I like to mention and agree. This docu is really geared for the fans of Stevie.
I think the average Joe music fan probably past on checking this docu out.

I always assumed this would show up on DVD. Now that there's a risk it won't, I wish I could have hired some bootlegger to go in and film it :distress:.

That's hilarious.

But you make me think of the Tusk photo shoot and how fun that was to watch (even bad quality) because of the silly spontaneity.

Michele

That was fun to watch but it wasn't in the final product of the Tusk Documentary. I loved it when John Carried Stevie away and everyone seemed to have fun (except Lindsey).

Like we can't picture them fighting LOL.

Oh Lindsey was having fun I thought, fluffing Christine's hair and reeling the girl she was clicking the board in the downbeat or when Chris said she had her arm around him and he thought it was Mick and said, "Dude's got long arms." Michele

So what was the point of doing this and not letting the public see the finished product. It should have come out when the CD came out. She can still put it out before IYD fades away. It needs to be now.

In Stevie's defense I really think she did show her true personality on the commentary for the Crystal Visions videos.

Just to put things into perspective.

John Mellencamp recorded an album in 2009 called "No Better Than This", which was released in 2010 on Rounder Records, produced by T Bone Burnett. They filmed the making of the album. The documentary on the making of the album had it's world premiere at SXSW in March, 2011. The film screened a few times beginning January, 2012 in NYC and LA. The DVD was eventually released in May, 2012 via MPI Home Video.

My point: The timeline from when the album was recorded and released, to when the documentary premiered and screened, through to when it eventually made it to DVD is approx. 2 to 3 years, from beginning to end.

We could be in for a long wait.

I was one of the lucky ones to see this documentary - it was not a glorifed infomercial - its is a fantastic look at how each song on IYD was conceived. Naturally we cannot see everything but I found it fascinating and cannot wait for it to DVD to come out no matter how long it takes.

When it does come out I intend to view it with not only my beloved "Stevie Sisters" but with non-fans so maybe they can understand what it is I love about Stevie. I absolutely loved Stevie's sense of humor which is highlighted in the documentary:thumbsup:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I really feel this has turned into such a negative thread about the IYD documentary.

I feel we should be grateful for having Stevie still continue to make music whether it be solo or with the Mac. Life is so short and all of us can be taken at any moment.

Let's enjoy what we have and look forward to what is coming.

Wow... what a great, insightful piece of writing. It's an enjoyable and informative read. You clearly understand Stevie's character, and have a pinpoint perspective and objectivity about the context of her documentary. I hope, for my sake and for that of other fans, we will get the chance to see it.

Definitely agree. I feel like the only point in wearing fur is that it's a status symbol and it's to prove that you have the money to do so. And it's not like we aren't all aware that Stevie's loaded. She could rock some fake fur.
And to the other question, I don't mind the use of Leather. Or sheepskin. Because those animals are actually getting eaten, and would be dying anyway. That's very different from raising and killing a hundred Chinchillas just to make one tacky coat

I think you can eat meat and love animals. I love animals more than anyone I know. I've got dozens of pets, all rescues. I volunteer at the local animal shelter and wildlife refuge a few times a month. I've spent many a sleepless night sitting by a fire bottle-feeding a litter of abandoned wild rabbits.
But i'll tell you what. Bacon has got to be the greatest thing in the entire world. And I don't think that every other good thing i've done for animals is forgotten because I eat bacon for breakfast a few times a month. Just sayin'. It's not like that hunk of meat in the supermarket wouldn't have just been bought by somebody else. Meat is healthy. I've only had chicken and bacon in my life. But I enjoy it and I recognize that the meat trade will never be obsolete, and those cows/chickens/sheep/pigs will die whether or not you eat some Chick Fil A. ;)

Fur, however... different story imo.

Huh???? The animals that are eaten are treated far more inhumanely than those killed for their fur.

I'm aware. But I feel like at least those animals are being killed for a purpose. To be eaten. The world will never stop eating meat, y'know. So whether you eat meat or not, somebody else will. Because it's necessary for a lot of people. It's healthy. (And this is coming from someone who eats a piece of meat maybe once a month. I'm been a veggie since birth and just started eating small pieces of meat this year, when a doctor recommended I do so for my anemia.).
Fur, however, is not necessary. They're not killed for a purpose. There's no reason why we need to do that. I have 3 chinchillas and they're the sweetest things in the world. I can't even fathom that it literally takes more than a hundred of them to make one tacky, unattractive coat. :sorry:
No offense to Stevie or anyone else who wears fur. I just never could without feeling guilty that so many innocent animals had to die so I could own one piece of clothing.

Stevie obviously does not hate animals. She even did the Today Show thing for adopting shelter dogs. She's probably just set in her rock & roll ways from the 70s, and doesn't realize how awful the fur trade really is. Maybe she just ranks dogs as more important than minks/chinchillas. The way my stepdad will do anything to save a dying rabbit on the street, but kills mice in the house left and right. I don't judge Stevie. Or think she hates animals.

Yes, can we please stop with the false claim that anyone said Stevie hates animals. Geesh. Everyone has said just the *opposite*. And because we know she loves her animals, some of us had hoped she'd be more aware of the cruelty in the fur trade. (btw, if you don't think how we slaughter animals for food is inhumane, watch any of the videos on youtube about how it's done.--but that's another issue) As I said, it's a democracy, people can have different opinions. I tend to agree with Rhiannondontgo above that Stevie is from a time when a fur coat was the marker for success. I agree that it's sick. I was raised vegan and am sickened by how the animals are treated for the meat trade. I won't even buy eggs unless they're cage-free, actually. I also agree that Stevie should acknowledge the murder that takes place to make her fur if she loves animals so much. But, hey. She's a cliff-dweller from the old school. ;) A fur coat was a status symbol in her time. Everyone wore them. Cher, Streisand, Diana Ross, etc. My dad's aunt Connie was an big actress in the 60's and 70s. In every picture of her in my house, she's decked out in furs. Stevie's just from a different time than we vegan hippie people were.

And if you eat meat or wear fur/leather, it doesn't necessarily mean that you hate animals. However, if you eat meat, wear fur/leather AND consider yourself an animal lover, it means you are a) deeply in denial, b) a hypocrite, or c) you're just dead inside and lacking self awareness. If you are b), just own up to it, all the while recognizing the repercussions of your personal decisions; there are many things that I know I'm hypocritical about. But I pity the deluded a) or c) people who insist that killing animals for food/clothing is a perfectly humane, sustainable practice that does not adversely impact the environment, the suffering of animals or our physical health. And, for the record, eating animal products IS NOT a necessity for survival; as far as I know, no human deaths have ever been attributed to "meat deprivation." Sure, people are entitled to their own opinions... but that doesn't give them the right to make up "facts" and espouse them as truth.

For Christ(ine's) sake, she's wearing a FAKE fur. It looks like it was made out of a bunch of Macy's Potbelly Bears.

You make it easy for lazy people like me. ;)

It has always bothered me to see Stevie wear fur. The coat is obviously not real- hope the same for the hat.

I've never spent any time with a chinchilla, but I will say that cows are gentle and sweet creatures that do not deserve the torture they endure to end up on our plates, bodies and handbags. I am not a vegan and don't claim perfection (if it swims, I'll eat it). But I do try to do my best not to contribute to another creature's suffering. I just bought a pair of seriously bad ass boots that were marked down from $130 to $28. Man made- no leather.

Okay I'm done- where the eff is this documentary!

Correct, Dave has neither lied nor been evasive, but he has been restricted by the likes of Miss Nicks and her management. If Dave were truly in control of the entire situation, he would have had In Your Dreams (the album) released in mid to late 2010 and the documentary in the first half of 2012, but these were/are not independent releases.
Dave has been forthcoming in regard to information from day one of his collaboration with Stevie and has essentially been her muse/inspiration for the last few years. Thank Christ for Dave.

If they are having problems getting a distribution deal, why don't they make it available as a download? They would still make money from it and there wouldn't be the logistical problems involved with actually manufacturing the DVDs/shipping/and so on. I would really love to see this documentary.

As far as I can tell they have given more confirmation towards it in the last year than all the "well we should", " I don't know", "maybes" in the last 20 years. Stevie has even flat out said they are releasing it. They have also upped the ante to addressing a possible tour to tie in with it. Plus, there is the info I posted in the Rumours forum about the permission rights in the Dave Grohl movie and I would imagine that has created a renewed interest in the project which gives them new blood to market to. :)

Just saying - I think this is really happening.

That's a joke. Whatever restrictions her people may or may not have placed on him, trust me, things wouldn't be any better if Dave were in control.

He's done this before. He starts a new project, promises all these amazing things, and then he loses interest and it disappears. Superheavy. Ann Marie Calhoun and the Factory Girls. The Conspiracy for Good. Off the Record. The Hospital. Nadirah X. Platinum Weird. Weapons of Mass Entertainment -- that's the source of all these things, it's his production company and he calls it his "idea factory." When he launched it, there was this wave of interviews where he promised he was going to revolutionize media and save the music industry. Now it's on like its third incarnation, and the only things it's produced are music videos for and documentaries about all his bands that he dumped as soon as he got bored with them. About its only "success" is that ****ty Reba McEntire sitcom. It amazes me that he gets paid millions of dollars to be a "change agent" or whatever his bull**** title with Nokia is -- like, do people not look at his track record before handing massive amounts of money over to him?

He seems like a lovely guy, and he's been nothing but nice in my interactions with him -- but the dude's a ****ing flake.

Gee there are some incredibly impatient and ungrateful members frequenting this forum. It seems that the moment something is mentioned, an immediate release is expected. Dave Stewart is renowned for getting the ball rolling and as far as his collaborations with Stevie are concerned, he has most definitely come through for her and the fans. I think most of us, if we were being realistic, would concede that if Dave had not been at the helm of In Your Dreams (the album), it may never have materialised or else Stevie could still be toiling away on it. Trouble In Shangri-La anyone? Recording of that album began in 1998 and yet it was not released until 2001.
With regard to the In Your Dreams documentary, it seemed as though the anticipation for a release commenced from the moment it was revealed there would even be one. Some people were insisting it be issued alongside the album, but it hadn't been completed by that stage. In fact, the final editing was only done just prior to the brief cinema run it experienced late last year.
It would seem that a dvd release would just be a natural progression at this stage, but who knows what is actually delaying matters? There could be further editing being undertaken, perhaps with the deleted footage being reinserted? There could be all sorts of additions being considered (full music clips, live footage etc) but furthermore, distribution might also be proving difficult. If this is the case, I'm confident Dave would do whatever he could to expedite the process, but this may be beyond his control.
It just seems foolish to be laying blame upon anyone at this relatviely early stage, particularly Dave, who has been nothing but encouraging of new input from Stevie. He has also gone on record as suggesting Stevie should attempt writing with Lindsey, which if it transpires, could lead to the ever elusive Mac album in the future.
Egg Cream, all of those artists you mentioned have actually released product so I don't understand your assertion that Dave is the stumbling block. Admittedly, Dave does seem to have a finite attention span and this may be the reason he continually oscillates from one project to the next, but the artists in question also have the ability to exist without him.
I wonder if Dave will be eventually held responsible for the "delay" in getting Miss Fantasy, Sad Angel, Without You and the 40th anniversay edition of Buckingham Nicks issued?

So when you laid the blame at the feet of Stevie and her management for "restricting" Dave, you were just speculating? It seemed to be stated rather definitively for speculation. Regardless, I am still curious as to what these mysterious restrictions are that would hold up release.

APerfectLie
02-09-2013, 05:48 AM
Lawd Jesus there's a fire! I think there are several problems here that everyone needs to realize. Dave is something of a dreamer. He dreams up ideas and shares them with us and we take those ideas as truths. Dave probably should be a little more careful in his announcements and not seem so confident that everything he does will come to fruition, and we must learn to not believe everything he says. Also, Dave is not Stevie's management. He is an artist himself AND he deals with all kinds of other projects. I think Dave has lots of great ideas and gets the ball rolling, but when things get tough he saunters away to other projects he is working on. If he were her manager and/or partner and dealt with Stevie only, I think she would be a lot more creative, risky, and prompt. Alas, that is not the case. So I am glad for all the inspiration Dave has given Stevie and I love that he communicates with us, but I do wish he would be a little more honest with his predictions/dreams/statements. Problem number two is with Stevie's management. I don't know what restrictions they do or do not place on Dave or the release of the documentary. What I do know however is that they suck. Why wasn't the Secret Love video released way earlier? Why was there no advertisement for IYD during the Glee episode? Why didn't Stevie do any real televised sit down interviews about IYD? Why hasn't the documentary been released? And some may be right, Stevie's management may not be putting any restrictions on Dave that are causing delays, but they are her management! If they aren't causing the delays, they need to be out there fighting to make sure there aren't any! However, this isn't anything new to us chiffonheads. We've been getting our hopes up for projects that are supposed to come and never do for years. At least this time the project was done and seen by the public, so I feel they have already put enough time and money into this documentary that they must eventually release it.

Billboard March 29, 2013, by Gary Graff
http://m.billboard.com/v/News/StevieNicksDiscusses/?KSID=bfdfe2750c9304836d9e249c30e15e27

Stevie Nicks says that making her latest solo album, 2011's "In Your Dreams," was "the best year of my life." And she's even happier to have it chronicled on film.

Directed by David A. Stewart, the former Eurythmics member who co-produced and co-wrote the album, the "In Your Dreams" documentary will be shown for one night only on April 2 in North American theaters; locations and ticket information can be found at www.inyourdreamsmovie.com. This follows showings at several film festivals during 2011 and 2012, most recently at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, where Nicks also performed with Dave Grohl's Sound City Players.

"It's a magical little film," Nicks tells Billboard. "It really allows you to sit right there with us through the entire year of the making of 'In Your Dreams,' and it's funny. It's really funny. It's really compassionate and it's at my house for a whole year. Dave's team during 2011 took it down from a whole year to three hours and myself, my assistant and Dave's editor took it down from there to an hour and 40 (minutes). It shows how hard it was to make (the album) and also how much fun it was and how magical it was. I hope that when people see it they really want to hear the record, even if they didn't know I had a record out." "In Your Dreams" debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in May of 2011 and has sold 188,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

STEVIE NICKS ON 'IN YOUR DREAMS,' FLEETWOOD MAC'S TOUR AND LONGEVITY SECRETS AT SXSW
As the film's promotional description notes, "In Your Dreams" documents "costume parties, joyous dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations, and revealing songwriting and recording sessions all of which are captured on film." Mick Fleetwood, actress Reese Witherspoon, Mike Campbell of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, co-producer Glen Ballard and longtime Nicks cohort Waddy Wachtel also appear in the movie, as does former boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham. The session that produced the song "Soldier's Angel," which was inspired by Nicks' periodic visits to wounded U.S. military personnel at hospitals on the East Coast, is also chronicled.

"I told (Buckingham) the story of the song and said, 'If you can't figure it out, it's not going to go on the record and I'm going to be destroyed because this is truly my most sacred and revered song,' " Nicks recalls. "He really saved the day on that; not only did we create something that's probably as Buckingham-Nicks as we have been since 1973, but...it really brought Lindsey and I back together. As he was leaving on the second day he said, 'I feel like we're closer than we've been in 30 years, and I would not mess with that for anything. I'm so happy we have been able to do this song and make it something we love, because I know that's so important to you.' "

Nicks -- who kicks off a tour with Fleetwood Mac on April 4 in Columbus, Ohio -- will also be taking the "In Your Dreams" film to the Toronto International Film Festival, with a screening and Q&A on April 15. "These are so crazy for me because I've never been to a film festival in my life before this," she says. "So that was really an interesting experience for me to go to a real theater and do a question-and-answer, and then see the film and then do another question-and-answer. It was great. And, of course, I just love doing anything that allows me to hang out with Dave Stewart, 'cause he just makes me laugh from the bottom of my feet up."

Dave Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, In Your Dreams, Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks fans, take note: for one night only, April 2, you can catch a new documentary on the Fleetwood Mac singer. In Your Dreams, follows the making of Stevie’s latest album of the same name. The man behind the album, musician and music producer, solo artist, and member of the Eurthymics, Dave Stewart, talked to Jack-FM Seattle‘s Lee Callahan about working with Stevie on both the film and the album.

“I’ve worked with many artists, Bono, Bryan Ferry, Mick Jagger, but there’s always been a constant association with strong female vocalists.” About the film: “It goes in and out of reality, manifesting what goes on in Stevie’s mind.”

“It’s a movie for Stevie fans, about the inside world that Stevie inhabits, and the inside of her big beautiful house.” We learn that her world features costume parties, elaborate dinner feasts, fantasy creations and revealing songwriting and recording sessions, all of which are captured on film. The film is whimsical and full of fantasy, Dave even participates as a top-hat wearing tap dancer. Actress Reese Witherspoon shows up in the film. “She invited Stevie to stay at her condo in Nashville, and Stevie replied ‘Well, that would be cheap,’ and Reese said, ‘Nothing’s cheaper than free.’” From there, Stevie and Dave wrote, sang, and recorded “Cheaper Than Free” together, and put the song on both their albums.

Stewart has had a rich career as a songwriter and producer for big name rockers, he also co-wrote “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” with Tom Petty, but says he did it with Stevie in mind. “I was actually writing it for her, and Tom said he wanted to finish writing it with me, for his album.” Dave Stewart has released two new albums of his own in the past three years – The Ringmaster General and The Blackbird Diaries.

Rock’s biggest names have come out of England – The Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, and yes, The Eurythmics. I asked Dave Stewart what was in the water over there. “It’s very dark and cold and rainy over there, we have to make our own amusement, plug in our guitars in our garages… a lot like Seattle, right?” Absolutely, Dave.

Before we parted, Mr. Stewart reflected on Ms. Nicks a bit more, saying she’s the most hard-working and focused artist, while some people make think she’s a space cadet or hippie, but she’s full-on, a whirlwind.

I pointed out that Stevie plays a mean tambourine and Dave said, “Oh she had to, because in Fleetwood Mac, they’d all take turns singing, so Stevie thougt, ‘what am I going to do, stand there?”

Dave Stewart has released two new albums of his own in the past three years – The Ringmaster General and The Blackbird Diaries.

Stevie Nicks: In Your Dreams
by Daniel Scheffler

There isn’t anyone on the planet that hasn’t heard a Fleetwood Mac song, right? Dreams? Rumours? Yes? Well the front lady of one of the greatest bands of the last century comes alive yet again with her " Stevie Nicks: In Your Dreams " let’s call it ’reality’ movie. In the vein of showing the behind-the-scenes, everything including guts and gore, the fans of aging rock stars want to either read their grotesque memoirs or see a rockumentary where their heroes reveal everything about their creative process.... and some more.

And the latest Stevie Nicks album, on which this DVD is based, with hits like "Secret Love" with its soft groans and "Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream)" acting as a the zeitgeist’s trance and a hopeful "You May Be The One" feels just right for this older, stronger so-called white-winged dove.

As the cameras follow the gypsy-like singer around her home with documentarian Dave Stewart (from Eurythmics fame) and crew, you realize just how talented and beautiful this Phoenix-born singer truly is. Forget the awards especially the eight Grammy nominations (holding the record for most nominations for Best Female Rock Vocal without a win), the various hit singles, the fact that she slept with practically the whole band, the hysterical witchcraft allegations, the signature shawls and capes - the genius comes in the quieter moments where she wants to get her artistry just right. And she does that like a tight ropewalker above the clouds.

Finally watched it on Amazon last night. I thought it was great! So many good parts, like the Lindsey/Stevie Destiny Rules "Bob Dylan" feud, then fast forward to Stevie putting Lindsey in his place about the "war" and Lindsey relenting with his hand in the air saying "Oh-0kay." :xoxo: Is it me or does it seem maybe being a dad all these years may have mellowed the Lindz. Also found myself peeking around Stevie's house with a silent "ooo-ah!" - Like that cool-looking jellyfish thing. That thing is ultra cool and I want one! And the puppy dog nuzzling the flokati rug was cute too. How about when Stevie says she's going to have a broken hip and foot by the time New Orleans is over trying to teach Mick how to do the drum part. The look on his face as the camera cut over to him. So much fun to watch! What a world she lives in.
