View Full Version : Stevie Nicks would have strangled Nicki Minaj

Last season on “American Idol,” Stevie Nicks was a coach for the contestants. But she says she’s glad she’s not involved this year, now that smack-talking Nicki Minaj is there. Weighing on the rapper’s recent outburst against Carey, Nicks said, “How dare this little girl! … If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.”
Sitting poolside in East Hampton New York promoting her new documentary, “In Your Dreams,” the still stunning 64-year-old is on a rock and a roll. “I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it,” the former Fleetwood Mac star promised.
Nicks also revealed if she and Lindsey Buckingham were starting out today they would “absolutely” go on “American Idol,” “The X Factor” or “The Voice.” “That’s how you get seen these days,” she explained. But, Nicks says, “I would have had to drag [Lindsey] kicking and screaming. He probably would have given them the finger.”
And would she ever judge a show like that? Nicks insists, no way. “If you stick me in the middle of a burning fire,” she says, “I don’t think I’d like it very much.”

Haha she is hilarious! I love her! My favorite remark, "How dare this little girl!" Damn straight Stevie!
*Felt the need to add I don't think violence is the answer to anything, but I think you can find it funny because I don't believe she is in anyway being remotely serious in her statements. She is just full of drama. And obviously, she was asked about it. She didn't just bring it up to add her two cents.

Always with the strangling, Stevie. She really has been cracking me up lately.
I was dying when I saw this on twitter earlier under the headline "Stevie Nicks calmly discusses murdering Nicki Minaj"
Doesn't she love Mariah, and wrote her that letter about how "everybody else is crazy, and Mariah isn't", that Mariah always keeps in her jewelry box.

Well, at least we know that Liz Rosenberg is doing her job (for a change).
Accordingly, if this interview goes even remotely viral, I think Stevie should offer an apology. I don't think intimating physical violence of any sort is appropriate.

I think what she said was really funny and provocative. However, Stevie was talking about not writing a "tell all" because it would'nt be "classy," which I loved, and she was appropriately applaued for say so. But were her quotes about this really very, "classy?"

There's already idiotic like 13 year olds trashing Stevie for it on tumblr. I can't even understand half the insults because unfortunately I don't speak ghetto slang. (Despite years living in inner Atlantic City. ) But the gist is calling Stevie old or saying they didn't even know who she was (Not surprising that they wouldn't know decent music if they actually like Nicki Minaj).

Agreed. I think it's just entertaining. Stevie's drama and ridiculousness are some of my favorite things about her.
There's no need for people calling her a whore and insulting her on tumblr and twitter over a silly quote in an interview. I wonder if these Nicki fans know a single thing about Stevie when they say all this stuff. People need to chill out.

Yeah I agree. While I think her comments are a little funny, she shouldn't have gotten involved. She probably doesn't know anything about Nicki Minaj (I don't either). I think she was just saying that if anybody came at her the way Nicki came at Mariah, she would 'kill them'.
Other people don't know Stevie like us and don't understand her dramatic side and occasional silliness. I know if anybody ever said they wanted to kill Stevie, I wouldn't be happy either. So I get the Stevie-hate coming from Nicki fans. I'd prefer they didn't mock her former addictions and call her a whore though. That's not cool. In my opinion.

I remember Stevie saying something along the lines that she sometimes wanted to slap Jessica. It was one of her rants against computer technology and she said that sometimes her niece wouldn't even pay attention to her and would be so engrossed in the virtual world that she'd be rude to Stevie, making Auntie want to strike.

This just breaks my heart. I love Nicki so much. We don't even know the full story yet, and as far we know it is all for publicity. Of course I understand Stevie's perspective completely. But why is this video only Nicki's response? What did Mariah say that set her off?
Either way I hate this so much. 2 of my favorite artists ever are now "feuding" and then my Goddess has to make such a strong opinion on it. I wish it would all would just go away already :distress:

AMERICAN Idol execs can thank their lucky stars they didn't hire Stevie Nicks as a judge: explaining an on-air strangling to the censors would have been difficult.
Nicks, who was coach for the contestants last season, weighed into the on-air feud between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, telling The Daily that she would have sent Minaj to the place where the rooms are permanently on fire if she had been in Carey's shoes.
"How dare this little girl. If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it."
The bust up between Minaj and Carey resulted in Minaj calling Carey "boring as f***" and threatening "off with your head!".
Carey said afterwards she would be beefing up her private security and has been seen at recent Idol auditions with several bodyguards.
Carey told ABC News popular reporter Barbara Walters that she feared Minaj would "shoot her," after rumours were swirling that Minaj threatened her on the Idol set.
"Nicki walked off the set and multiple people heard Nicki say, 'If I had a gun I would shoot the b****," Walters said on ABC's The View, adding that Carey told her over the phone "she can't take a chance" and has "hired extra security."
Since then, Minaj has tweeted: "Hey yAll. Lets just say nicki said smthn about a gun. ppl will believe it cuz she's a black rapper. Lmao. I'll then hit up Barbara n milk it."
"I guess it hurts 2 have the producers tell u to ur face that nicki is the best judge we've had since simon," she added. "Awww, poor u. Keep them lies cmn. Barbara walters didn't reach out from our team barbz. I guess we're too dangerous. Don't shake if u don't wannA get shook!!!!"
On second thoughts, maybe an on-air strangling is just what Idol needs.

Now, Nicks regrets her comments and says they came after a grueling day with the media.
“I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews. It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said,” she said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

Hopefully the apology will get people off her back; however, a lot of times acknowledging that a silly comment like that was out of line will do more harm than good, imo. She might have been better off just leaving things be.

No age doesn't make you dignified. But by age 64 the person who wrote Landslide should have learned when to keep her mouth shut. This reeks of a publicity stunt for her movie, eventhough it probably isn't.

What does writing Landslide have to do with anything?
Certainly, this comment wasn't necessary. But I believe she was asked about it, which is why she even made a statement about it in the first place.. so I doubt it had anything to do with trying to get publicity for her movie. It's not as if this is the first time Stevie has said something without really thinking it through (and I love her for that, because haven't we all been there?).
It was a harmless, amusing comment on a silly fight that's been in the news lately - the media ran with it, and that's unfortunate, but I really don't think it's THAT big of a deal. I might have said something similar when talking to my friend about it.. the only difference is that I'm not a public figure, and I didn't have journalists writing down my every word and making news stories out of them.

Nicki Minaj had, allegedly, threatened Mariah Carey with physical harm, so perhaps that was the impetus for Stevie's own threat of physical violence.
Was it appropriate for her to say? Was it classy or dignified? Perhaps not, but it was certainly entertaining and garnered her a whole hell of a lot of press.
I agree. As I read up on it online the last couple of days.

Smart move, Stevie, for the public apology...but I LOVE that Stevie isnt buying into this political correctness b.s. that we can't call out poor behavior for exactly what it is......I LOVE Stevie even more knowing that she is offended by this "rap" culture where even the women performers act like souless fools..Stevie, you might not want to admit to wanting to kill Nicki but never stop identify trash when you see it I LOVE YOU MORE TODAY!:blob2:

Ironically enough my daughter came home from High School today saying some kids were asking "who is Stevie Nicks" because of the gossip. By coincidence only, she was wearing my 35 years old Rumours shirt and was able to point Stevie out to her classmates, although many were somewhat familiar with her.

It was very smart of Stevie to apologize. There was no way she could have protected herself from die hard Nicki fans who potentially were thinking about "popping a cap in her ass" because of what she said. It wasn't worth it. Stevie learned a lesson today, the old adage 'think before you speak'.

I'm a youngster who was in highschool just last year, and I've never met anybody who had no idea who she was. Maybe they were out there but never asked. I wore Stevie/Mac shirts very often, got a ton of compliments, and everybody was so excited for me when I got my first Stevie show tickets. So I don't think she's that irrelevant imo. Maybe they don't know any of her new stuff, but most somewhat cultured teenagers know her as a legend, and know the hits. I would doubt any Nicki fans would know her, as most are like urban middle school kids and probably don't listen to anything that isn't modern.
Certainly, this comment wasn't necessary. But I believe she was asked about it, which is why she even made a statement about it in the first place..
I agree. I don't think she was looking for trouble. They probably asked her how she felt about it, or about American Idol, and she just went off without thinking. Personally her honesty and tell-it-like-it-is attitude is adorable to me. And I like that she still does it. It could be much worse. Stevie is fairly tame compared to people like Cher, Madonna, Courtney Love, etc.
Besides, all publicity is good publicity. Maybe some kids will rediscover her and buy some records.

I love Stevie more than life, and completely understand her saying this in the flaky, dramatic, exaggerating type of way she says a lot of her wacky quotes. But to people who don't know her and don't understand the way she talks and acts and know to take it all with a grain of salt, it kind of looks insane that Stevie was talking about murdering a woman she has never met due to a fight she has nothing to do with.
I will certainly stand up for Stevie always, and am actually entertained by her feisty quotes lately, but I can understand them being angry because if anybody ever said they wanted to kill or hurt Stevie, I would be a very angry person.
That being said, Stevie is cracking me up lately. You go girl. :xoxo:

A friend told me that Ms. Minaj has had Twitter "feuds" with other celebrities, including Cher. Sounds like someone doesn't know how to play well with others.
I have a feeling Stevie & Cher could take her. And if they don't manage to finish her off, Mariah's voice would surely make her head explode. ;)

Sorry if this has been posted already:
The Bottom Line
Behind-the-scenes document is for big fans only.
Venue
Hamptons International Film Festival, World Cinema: Documentary
Directors
Dave Stewart, Stevie Nicks
Stevie Nicks and producer Dave Stewart co-direct a diary about the album they made together.
THE HAMPTONS, NEW YORK — A diaristic doc whose appeal is limited strictly to megafans, In Your Dreams: Stevie Nicks chronicles the collaboration between Nicks and Eurythmics member Dave Stewart on the 2011 album of the same name. A raucous premiere here (with viewers applauding after every song) suggests Nicks has enough admirers to fill special screenings here and there, but the film is best suited to a CD/DVD Collectors' Edition package.
PHOTOS: Stage to Screen: A Brief History of Contemporary Concert Movies
Nicks and Stewart share directing credit on the film, displaying an enthusiasm for effects -- from filters to fisheye lenses -- that sometimes exacerbates the choppiness of Shane Mclafferty's editing. Their stylistic flourishes fit more smoothly in the music video-like sequences scattered throughout, where 19th-century costumes and the occasional vampire or magician matches the music's mood.
The film opens "somewhere in Southern California," where Nicks has decided to set up mikes in the middle of her sprawling old house and spend the better part of a year piecing a record together with Stewart and some other old friends. Having handed Stewart a book full of writings (she uses the word "poems" pretty loosely), the two collaborate on making songs from them; the film gives each track its own bit of screen time, whether it was inspired by a long-ago post-rehab romance ("For What It's Worth") or is little more than an aural book report about "Wide Sargasso Sea."
STORY: Stevie Nicks: 12 Revelations From the Grammy Museum Event
This may suit devotees, but more casual fans will wish for a movie that doesn't assume we already know everything there is to know about the singer's career. Only one brief tangent on her childhood makes its way onscreen, and there's almost no talk of her early solo outings or her heyday with Fleetwood Mac. (An enjoyable bit of keyboard noodling on "Dreams" is as close as we get to the glory days.) Old bandmates Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham do drop by to record on new songs, though, and we are treated to a funny story about the time Nicks tried to steal a Mike Campbell tune that became Tom Petty's "Runaway Trains."
Though unconvinced viewers may snort when Nicks compares herself to Bob Dylan or treats lyrics scribbled on hotel stationery like relics of great import, we do see things partly explaining her success: Knowing she's not getting what she wants during a track's playback, she proves to have remembered one of Stewart's guitar solos better than he himself does.

More like Liz, her publicist. She used to work for Madonna (She doesn't still though, does she? I'm not sure), so she's got to be used to getting divas out of sticky situations. ;)
I don't think anybody pulls more stunts and says more controversial things than Madge. So Liz is definitely an expert.

To me, the sad part is that more press and attention goes to the judges than the contestants...and it really DOES mean the world to most of these kids.
Unless I'm mistaken, the orginal Mariah-Nicki blow-up happened when they were discussing a contestant. Can you imagine being the poor kid who had to stand there and listen to that crap, when all you want to do is make it to the next round?
But, AI knew what they were getting into before they hired Nicki. I don't know her from Adam, but I have seen some of her performances on shows and ... ugh. Still, they knew there was bad blood between her and Mariah and ...I'm sure they play it up to the hilt.
Why would the reporter have mentioned this to begin with? Seems a stupid question. Ask about mentoring/about the rumors that they wanted her to be a judge...but, a feud that she had nothing to do with? Weird. Of course, she took the bait...but, she's loveably wacky so...I wasn't the least bit shocked.

Most of Nicki's fans are teenyboppers. Most rap fans don't even take her seriously and they see her as a pop artist. I highly doubt anyone is going to actually do anything to Stevie besides spew a bit of venom. So there is no need to overreact. That is how it is now with social media. If you say anything bad about an artist or do something they consider a slight, their their stans will rip you apart or threaten you. This is the mentality of many fanbases of current artist. Justin Bieber's stans attacked and threatened Esperanza Spaulding for winning the best new artist Grammy. The poor girl did nothing, but that didn't stop them. They eventually got over it and she was fine. I don't like it, but that is just the way it is.

However, I've seen so many celebrities get attacked by other celeb's fanbases and it usually amounts to nothing but a bunch of morons running their mouths behind a computer screen. Most of these kids wouldn't dare talk like that in real life, but they become tough guys on the internet. As for Nicki fans, they will do just the same. Most of them are young girls. Just to give you an idea, some of her fans include people like Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Sophia Grace (the little girl from Ellen), so her fanbase resembles girls in that age group.

Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks says her beloved late mother would have saved her from viciously attacking Nicki Minaj over Minaj’s threats against Mariah Carey.
Nicks, a recent coach on “American Idol,” put out a public apology yesterday for saying that her friend Carey should have “strangled” Minaj “to death,” and blamed it on a long day of interviews.
But Nicks revealed exclusively to Page Six that she’s still struggling since her mother, Barbara, died at age 84 in December after a battle with pneumonia.
Nicks told us, “I am a very emotional person. I saw what I had said and I didn’t sleep all night."
“I have been touring since June . . . I lost my mom a couple of months back, and usually I would have called her to ask, ‘What should I do?’
“My mother would have said, ‘You rushed in to save your friend Mariah. That is not wrong. What was wrong was the words you used. You are a writer. You would never say those words, and that should be a lesson for you for the rest of your life.’
“I could have taken my mom’s view on it, but instead I took out the insane soldier. From the bottom of my heart I would say I am very sorry.” She continued, “[After I saw my words] I felt, did this really happen? I don’t even recognize my words. Could this have been a ‘Law & Order’ moment? I can’t tell you. I don’t know.”
Of Carey, Nicks said: “When she was having some issues a long time ago, I wrote and told her, ‘You are wonderful, and you have to keep singing. Don’t listen to everybody else.’ I have so much respect for her; she is one of the greatest singers of all time. I guess I was just being extremely protective.”
Nicks, on tour to promote her album “In Your Dreams” and also releasing a doc with the same title, said she’s used to vicious verbal attacks.
She said, “At 64, I’ve learned to roll with the punches, but it is never easy . . . I have been through some terrible times, and the odds are I shouldn’t be here now. I am lucky to be here. My armor is up, but people can get through your armor sometimes, and wound you.”

If you ask me, she was in rare form the entire day. Very sarcastic and silly and even more ramble-y than usual and had a lot of dry humor and eye-rolling going on. But I found it entertaining, and I think she's being mature by saying she's sorry. So it should just end here.
Let's just hope Mariah and Nicki don't decide to repond....

Here's the #1 reason for why Steve Nicks should've been an American Idol judge this season. Stevie Nicks was once a mentor on that **** show, so The Daily (via Gawker) asked her what she thinks about the bitch brawl between Mimi and Nicki Minaj. Mimi might be scared that Nicki is going to bust a hot pink bullet into her cowardly lion weave, but Stevie Nicks isn't scared of Nicki at all. Stevie would be making dresses out of dyed black sheets in prison if Nicki came at her like that.
"How dare this little girl...If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it.
You really don't mess with a crazy witch whose last fukc was eaten away by cocaine a long time ago. If American Idol is still using mentors, they should get Stevie, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin to do it. Then they should gather those three in a room, throw Nicki Minaj in there, lock the door and tell the children to cover their ears, because it's not going to be pretty.
It's a damn shame that Stevie Nicks never had any children, because she'd make an amazing abuelita.

I thought this was cute, what she said about AI in 2003. It's funny how she just says she would handle Simon, but doesn't say how:
Out of curiousity, have you seen American Idol?
Whenever I can. I love it. It makes me laugh. If I was 20, I'd be down there trying out.
If Simon said you couldn't sing, how would you react?
I could handle him.
And if you were a judge?
I'd be just like him. "Get another job. Next!"
