View Full Version : Prediction: What will be "Storms" of Mac Tour 2013?

TrueFaith77

What do y'all predict will be the out-of-the-vaults song that the band brings to the Mac Tour 2013? I'm thinking for e.g. "Storms" for Unleashed and "Beautiful Child" for SYW.

I'm thinking "Walk A Thin Line" is a possibility given Lindsey has been playing it solo and that Mick picked it recently as a fave.

Also, I think I would soil myself if the band actually did "Dreams"?! But I don't think they'll ever take a chance like that. They play it too safe.

Lindsey made a comment about I Don't Want To Know didn't he?

So possibly that. I think there's a fairly good chance we'll hear something that dates back to the BN era to tie in with the 40th anniversary.

Didn't you mean to say Sister's Of The Moon?

I Don't Want To Know would make a lot of sense... it's an iconic song that's not a part of their live repertoire, it's a holdover Buckingham Nicks track, and it showcases the harmonization of Lindsey & Stevie. This is a very likely and logical choice.

Straight Back would be a cool choice as well, but I don't see it happening.

Save Me A Place was gorgeous on Lindsey's recent solo tours, and I think it'd make a fantastic addition to the Mac setlist.

The Ledge would be a lot of fun. I see Lindsey pulling this one out for his solo shows, but not so much for the Mac.

I love the idea of FM pulling "Sister Of The Moon" out of retirement more than what I fear the reality of it would be. I have no doubt that Stevie can still sing the song (basically it's the same chords (Am, F, G, C) as Rhiannon, POTU, Moonlight, etc.) But the missing key ingredient is the angst & menace of a younger Stevie of 30 years ago. I suspect it would be a grasp and probably a huge disappointment compared to her notorious performances of it during the "Tusk" & "Mirage" tours.

With "Storms" & "Beautiful Child" we had nothing to compare those performances with, we were just thrilled and excited because those songs had been beloved for so long and never in a million years did we expect the band would play those beautifully delicate songs live in concert.

My vote for a deep cut to resurrect would go to "Straight Back". That and bring back "Angel" and "Seven Wonders".

That would be sensational. The fast pace of SHN and I Know I'm Not Wrong are so much fun in concert, even for people who don't know the latter and Stevie even seems to enjoy those songs. I don't imagine that she likes The (Quirky) Ledge as much, but I think it would have the same infectious quality live, based on the old rehearsal tape.

Stevie took a solemn vow in New Orleans never to play that song again in this lifetime. Until she got to Florida.

I think alot of the choices others have mentioned would be great like I Don't Want to Know, Angel, Sisters of the Moon.

As a way to balance out the set, a song or songs from Mirage, Tango, or even Say You Will would be great since those albums are so poorly represented on FM tours and such.

I could see Stevie doing a kick ass Angel. I think they like to give Tusk some love now since it's become such a cult classic. I would love for them to pull out something like Crying In The Night or even do a medley of BN songs. Or even a short acoustic set of BN songs the way Stevie did that unplugged section during her Enchanted tour (I loved that so much).

it would be nice if they do several deep cuts from each of the 2 songwriters. just one song like they did during Unleashed and SYW tours is really almost nothing.

also, we've been telling Lindsey over and over that he should do some of his solo songs with the mac - so at least one solo song from each LB and SN would be nice (to either replace or add on to Go Insane and Stand Back). In Our Own Time being possibly a top fan choice for a LB song.

re Walk A Thin Line - thanks for bringing it up! i would of course LOVE to hear that song on the 2013 Mac tour  ... but however amazing it was, and however eternally grateful to him i am that he did it, you can't really characterize performing one verse of the song, once (after being heavily barraged by the fans for almost a day to do that song ) as "Lindsey has been playing it solo" :distress::shrug:

I could see them doing Crystal, but turning it into a duet of sorts since both Lindsey and Stevie have sung lead vocals on different versions. I would love for them to throw something rare in there, but if they do something they used to do live (Angel, SOTM, etc) it risks not being as good as previous live versions, and many of the songs they haven't played before just might not work out at all (Welcome to the Room Sara, That's Alright, When I See You Again). However, I would love to see them do Straight Back or Freedom!

Maybe it won't even be a song of Stevie's.

They have lost two, well, three, members within the last year, so quite possibly, they'll twist Lindsey's arm until he "gives in" to doing a Bob Welch tune. Brunning didn't write anything; Weston's contributions were very subtle (retrospectively major, but overall still very subtle)

Either "Sentimental Lady" or "Hypnotized" (or who knows, maybe even BOTH!)

I really love the 2 Welch era songs you mentioned. If they do consider a non-rumours era song I'd think Lindsey might consider 'Oh Well" again live but a Welch song could be a nice surprise..
Personaly I'd really like to hear more Tango material, Seven Wonders, Big Love (Full Band), more Tusk era stuff too especially Sisters of the Moon, Think about Me(maybe hard without Christine) Angel, SYW songs Miranda and Thrown Down, and I'll take anything live off Mirage.
Would be nice to get a Buckingham Nicks song or two somewhere in the set list also...even if it will be Don't let me down again..
Another song I'd like to hear live is Twisted. So many choices I hope they really surprise us all with something GREAT!

TWISTED would be really fun to hear live! Given they have so much FM material to cover, and likely won't stray far from a GH type set, I wouldn't hold my breath....

I hope to hear any of the following SN tunes:

SISTERS OF THE MOON
STRAIGHT BACK
SEVEN WONDERS
ANGEL
FIREFLIES

We might get a BN duet, but again, I wouldn't count on it... if so, hopefully, it will be CRYSTAL. Somehow, I see SN and LB doing a one off concert special (possibly filmed) to celebrate BN40. I don't think they'll use an FM tour to celebrate BN40.. but maybe!

I'd LOVE to hear NO QUESTIONS ASKED or AFFAIRS OF THE HEART... however, since LB did not originally play on either song, it is doubtful.

I was going to post a long one, but this post sums up a lot of my thoughts. Angel, and the one mentioned a few times, Straight Back, would be great.

I was going to start a thread about an idea I had rolling around, "A Trio of Tango", where LB starts it off with Big Love (full band would be awesome, but we know he needs the ego/kudos of solo), Stevie plays Seven Wonders and Lindsey brings it home with 'Tango in the Night'.

I love you Elle, but I don't want more LB or SN solo material, we have WAY enough FM stuff that doesn't get played to lose more to a Stevie or Lindsey old hit. Imagine losing a FM Lindsey deep cut for "Trouble" or a new single like IOOT. That would be lame.

What I'm hoping for in addition to mentioned above:
- One of the new songs Lindsey, Mick, John have been kicking around
- Buckingham Nicks
- SYW songs

I really hope Bob Welch gets a tribute and they play at least Hypnotized (Lindsey did it in 1975), or at worst he gets a mention. It will really be shameful if that doesn't happen.

Anyway, I really just don't want it to be Unleashed 2. Hey, Lindsey wouldn't let 'Rumours 2' happen, maybe we can draw an analogy from that. ;)

oh we are in complete agreement about Trouble! i wish Lindsey dropped Trouble even from his solo set like he originally intended (guess he must have chickened out).

but IOOT is hardly a hit, and you can even argue whether or not it was a single at all. i can bet that most casual FM fans don't know that song and it was a monster during SWS tour . it needs to come back when he has a backup band and FM could do nicely for that . but i could go for any of SWS rockers and would be a happy camper - e.g., TTWLG, One Take (FM would never have the guts to perform that one, i'm sure!:D). i guess EOT is more middle-of-the-road, safer, mac-ish song, but wouldn't be my choice.

similarly, i would think one of Stevie's IYD songs done with FM would very much please her fan base (i don't mean Secret Love), and i personally would much rather hear one of the IYD songs than Sara, for example.

also, i really think that doing just one deep cut per songwriter (like they did BC or Storms) is not good enough. i guess I Know I'm Not Wrong, although regularly performed during his solo tours, was LB's deep cut on UL.

so maybe one deep cut that was performed on previous FM tours (such as SOTM or Angel or What Makes You Think You're The One), and another never before performed deep cut would be nice (like WATL!!), for each of the 2 remaining songwriters in the band.

so again - i'm not saying replace LB deep cut with IOOT - i'm saying do both IOOT and a LB deep cuts. same for SN.

What I'm hoping for in addition to mentioned above:
- One of the new songs Lindsey, Mick, John have been kicking around
- Buckingham Nicks
- SYW songs

see, that's exactly what i'm talking about when i'm saying more than just 1 "deep cut" - so we agree again! yes to all 3 of these; some examples i can think of:

it would be amazing if they'd do one of the new songs that didn't come out yet (or they can do old one that never came out - Deep Dense! :xoxo: :p), kinda like Lindsey did Dancing at the beginning of his current tour, but i'm not holding my breath. and i'm not sure that i want to hear something like Dancing instead of IOOT or a Tusk or SYW deep cut, tbh.
Lindsey has already been doing Stephanie for months now, so if nothing else, that would be an easy choice...
definitely! again, as you know, Lindsey had been doing 2 SYW songs on his current tour - BTLH and Come. i love both of these. also, Murrow would be spectacular, for example! and i would love to hear Destiny Rules from Stevie's SYW songs, but i know that would not be the first choice for most SN fans, so leaving it up to them. i can live with SYW (the song), i wouldn't like TD.

Really? I tend to think Stevie lumps Sisters into the same group as her Street Angel tunes. It's a song that represents a drugged out part of her life she she prefers not to revisit. Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than to hear Sisters live (even if it's a much tamer version), but I just don't see Stevie agreeing to perform that one ever again.

Will reply to Elle's post in a bit..

It's a song that represents a drugged out part of her life she she prefers not to revisit.
While I agree with this quote and the post overall, if this was 100% true, why would she bring back other deep cuts from Tusk like Storms, and Beautiful Child? Those have references to her self-doubt and drug abuse (if veiled), and if it's the old-school witchiness, then Rhiannon could never be played..
It's like she sees Rhiannon as satisfying that vein of song, and with that being a hit and a fan favourite (I guess?), it gets precedence over SOTM.

Now I will say, instead of the snarky Rhiannon comment I was going to make, I saw Rhiannon live a week ago and it was really well-done, with the piano intro. No comparison to 2003/04/09 where she dug her own grave and shoveled in while singing, this was proper Rhiannon (of course Lori/Sharon help!!!).

Anyway. I would love SOTM. But for some reason, even Straight Back (an obscurer, less well-liked song) would have more chance. And I would love SB, too, I'm just saying, it's weird SOTM will never happen.

Mezzoforte's ironic point about us "getting" Soldier's Angel might be pretty prophetic too, high chance of that I would say. Although, like Rhiannon, any snarky comment I normally would make at this point has softened, since I saw SA live a week ago and it was eons better than the album version, performed with heart and good singing/guitar, with a good before and after story, if a little much.

Sisters of the moon is the obvious choice but I would love to see four or five acoustical numbers in the middle of the set. Maybe Long distance runner, Crystal, or Races are run. I Dont Want To Know would be nice or Angel would be a nice surprise but I see Sisters of the Moon making a return.

I'm not sure if Louie meant that SOTM comes from an era in which Stevie was doing drugs, or if it's just that her intense performances of that song were the result of being high. If it's the former, how could she perform anything but Say You Will songs?

^^ This x1000! After hearing the acoustic version of Gypsy I have longed for more acoustic FM/Stevie. For a band that loves rehashing their hits so much, it boggles my mind that they have never spiced them up by doing an acoustic set of them or even releasing an acoustic album, especially since Stevie and Fleetwood Mac have both released more Greatest Hits and live albums in the past 2 decades than they have studio albums!

Totally agree. Also I wouldn't be surprised if both Lindsey & Stevie perform a recent solo song seizing more cross promoting opportunity.
"Soldiers Angel" seems obvious for FM considering Lindsey's involvement in the recording of the song & Stevie's reverence towards it. Though I'd LOVE to hear FM take on "Annabel Lee" -- that, "Soldier's Angel and even "Secret Love" from IYD sound and feel most like Fleetwood Mac to me.

How about "Isn't It Midnight"? Its a Tango song from an album not represented well on tours, can be a "tribute song" to Christine, a la, Say You Love Me from the '09 tour, and its a deep cut.

Imagine Stevie and Lindsey rocking out to that song with Stevie doing some powerful rock/lead vocals, Lindsey's guitar solo, Mick and John providing a hard driving beat, and the back-up singers doing there thing ...face of pretty girl....!

1. The Chain
2. Dreams
3. Can't Go Back
4. Seven Wonders
5. Hold Me
6. Sara
7. Bleed To Love Her
8. Gypsy
9. Rhiannon
10. Hypnotized
11. Oh Well

Acoustic Set
12. Landslide
13. Never Going Back Again
14. Say Goodbye
16. Frozen Love
17. Crystal - Bring in band

17. I Don't Wanna Know
18. That's All For Everyone (Replaces Tusk)
19. Sisters of the Moon
20. Tango In The Night (Replaces I'm So Afraid)
21. Go Your Own Way

22. Blue Letter
23. Don't Stop

One would have thought after Chris left that they would have taken that opportunity to pull out allot of choice cuts either not done live before or not in some time and while they did give us Storms and Beautiful Child as well as Monday Morning and Sara they could have done so much more. Instead we got the Rumors songs done for the umpteenth time and allot of their previous work was ignored even going back to the lineups before B/N. Big Love has become a bore to me because we know he is a great guitarist so show us something else. Same goes for I'm so Afraid which is why I chose Tango in The Night. I don't want any solo material but if they are wanting to pay homage to Buckingham Nicks then include a song or two. Also since the passing of Bob Welch they really should include one of his songs. I was surprised that in the SYW tour they didn't even mention Christine other then playing Don't Stop and World Turning. I would have thought that Mick might have said something out of respect for Chris since it was the first tour to feature B/N without her.

Chances are that they will do Unleashed 2 with a few songs swapped in favor of other songs. My bet is that if nothing else Seven Wonders and Sisters of the Moon will be in the set list and perhaps a Lindsey song from Tusk.

I would like to see them drop Second Hand News, I'm So Afraid, World Turning, Gold Dust Woman, Big Love and Stand Back. This would be my idea of a decent set list

oh wow. we have such different tastes Matt! :)

GDW is probably my favorite SN song. i would absolutely HATE if that one is dropped before i hear it live.

same goes for ISA, SHN, and BL. no way should these songs be dropped. especially ISA and BL. casual people go see FM shows and ISA and BL are showcases while still jaw-dropping and enjoyable for FM hardcore fans. remember how you said that in Ottawa 10 k people listened to LB's solo show and were completely stunned, even though they didn't know most of the songs he played?

i inserted below my opinions on some of your choices, mostly the ones that i don't agree with, in red.

IThis would be my idea of a decent set list

1. The Chain
2. Dreams - drop it! (it will never happen, i know, but i can't stand that song:shrug:)
3. Can't Go Back
4. Seven Wonders - noooo (SN didn't even write this one!)
5. Hold Me - feels wrong w/o CM
6. Sara - booooring - drop it!!!!
7. Bleed To Love Her
8. Gypsy (my personal choice would be to drop it, but i was told i need to give it a chance)
9. Rhiannon - drop it! (again, it will never happen, i know
10. Hypnotized
11. Oh Well

Acoustic Set
12. Landslide
13. Never Going Back Again
14. Say Goodbye - nooooooo! can't stand that song. plus it's been done on tours before
16. Frozen Love
17. Crystal - Bring in band - noooo. plus again, hasn't this song been done live before?

17. I Don't Wanna Know
18. That's All For Everyone (Replaces Tusk) - noooooo! and wow? how can this song replace Tusk?????
19. Sisters of the Moon - yes!!
20. Tango In The Night (Replaces I'm So Afraid) - no, do both
21. Go Your Own Way

22. Blue Letter - noooo! not even written by FM, done live a lot already... why waste good space?
23. Don't Stop

so i just freed up a lot of spaces on your list which to me just seem wasted by those choices. ;) :sorry:

i'd add different songs of hers... but, well you know ;)

but, how do you mean? GDW, gypsy, landslide, IDWK, and SOTM - 5 songs!! :D

i'd add Angel, BC, Storms, Destiny Rules, SOTM, and let you all have FL. even SYW if necessary. i'd add some IYD songs. Stand Back can stay as far as i'm concerned.

see?

They sang Crystal live @ one of the last shows they did as BN. We have one very low quality recording of it.

It needs to be played.

ok, i'm starting from UL setlist and adding/replacing with my wishlist, while trying to tame my wishes and expectations. this is not a sequenced setlist, just list of songs, separated by SN and LB songs so i can be fair -

The Chain
Oh Well

LB songs:
Bleed to Love Her
Second Hand News
That's The Way Love Goes (solo song; In Our Own Time would be also great instead)
Tusk
Big Love
Walk A Thin Line
What Makes You Think You're The One
Red Rover
Murrow (or Tango, i guess... or Come!!)
I'm So Afraid
Go Your Own Way

(so, 11 LB songs)

SN songs:
Gypsy (and this is hard for me!)
Landslide
Storms
Angel
Beautiful Child
Gold Dust Woman
Silver Springs
Stand Back (Stevie Nicks song - if she needs something rocking)
Destiny Rules
IYD song choice (leaving it up to SN fans)
SA (??)
Twisted (w/ LB)

(so, 12 SN songs, but 2 with LB)

CM song:
Don't Stop

BN songs:
Stephanie
Frozen Love (although not my first BN choice...)
Crystal (i'm conceding you all this one! and i don't care who sings it, should prob be SN)

i'm sure i'm forgetting something that i'd absolutely love to hear but that's it for now.

EDIT: i knew i was forgetting something - i don't see Sisters of the Moon on my list above. i would LOVE to hear that one. and i can go for Say You Will complete with ridic lasso movements considering there is a cute melodic LB guitar solo in the middle of that song. :) so now i have 14 SN songs!! gotta add some to LB, fast. (oh and wouldn't be my first choice, but i'm ok with adding IDWK as another BN song).

I agree Dreams should be dropped but I knew it wasn't likely. Same goes for Rhiannon. In terms of the others ISA and BL are great but they have been done way too much. Even if you are a casual fan by now I am sure most people have heard these songs that he could bring out something else that showcases his skills. Heck I would enjoy hearing Murrow if not Tango. Tusk live bores me and what I meant by replacing it is that something else from Tusk could replace it so I chose an obscure one. I also included Seven Wonders because a) I love that song and b) BL can't be the only Tango song they do in concert anymore. I know they didn't write Blue Letter but they haven't done it in a while so I thought of bringing something from that album they haven't played to death. I also went with Say Goodbye as I liked the arrangement from the Say You Will Tour. As for GDW it is a great song but she doesn't do it well live anymore imo. SYW version was brutal. The unleashed tour version was better. I guess my main point is that allot of songs I dropped I did so because they have been overplayed and if this is the last go around. I would rather here songs I haven't heard before vs the same old same old. I hate the song Not that Funny but if he did live next year I wouldn't mind as it is something I have not heard live before.

I guess our tastes are different but that is ok with me. You can't please everybody.

^^ Haha, well I guess I'm a blasphemer too then. I much prefer Frozen Love to Crystal :)

I love these lists! I'm sort of amazed at how different our tastes can be! But that's really neat that they are! :D

Okay so here would be my dream set list. Bare in mind that my poor little soul has never had the pleasure of seeing FM perform live :distress:

*The Chain
(The rest are in no particular order, that would take way more thinking on my part lol)

*Oh Well
*Rhiannon - Love to see her do something different with this, give it new life!
*Landslide - Because you have to, I'm pretty sure it's a universal law!
*I'm So Afraid
*Never Going Back Again - Because it's just beautiful, that's why.
*Dreams - Again, I understand many have heard these standards numerous times, but honestly it's one of those songs which can never bore me.
*Sisters of the Moon
*Angel - Out of them all, this ranks in the top 5 of songs I want to see performed! I'd flip out if it actually happened!
*Walk a Thin Line
*Gypsy
*Straight Back
*Big Love
*Tango in the Night
*Silver Springs - I will cry if they do not do this. It is flippin well tradition! lol
*Bleed to Love Her
*Thrown Down
*Say Goodbye - I absolutely adore this song! I think their harmonies are beautiful and every time I watch them sing this on the Boston DVD I tear up.
*Destiny Rules - One of my favorite SYW songs
*Frozen Love
*Crying in the Night
*Sorcerer - Yes, Trouble in Shangri-La, but originally sung with Lindsey and I love that version that's floating around the internet.
*Shut Us Down - Love it when he sings this one live!

You may have noticed I didn't include GYOW. I actually do like what he does with the song live, but to me it's the most overplayed of all their songs. Sorry Lindsey! :xoxo: I can definitely leave GDW out if they play SOTM. And even though I love Tusk on the album, I've never been thrilled by the live performance of the track, besides that will force them to come up with some new routines ;)

I tallied everything up and that gives Stevie lead on 7, Lindsey 9, both 6 - at least how I envision the songs being sung. I think that's pretty fair :)

nicely said about how neat it is that all our lists seem so different. :)

i like most of your list - we have a lot of overlap on the never or rarely played live songs / deep cuts! (i bolded the ones you listed above that i would go with too.)

but - and that's one big but - you want to deprive people of strumming lindsey's guitar during GYOW?!?!?!? impossible, GYOW is usually such a lovefest with the audience!:xoxo:

hehe i knew that would be controversial! and honestly, i think part of it was my own experience with him performing the song solo. i know that typically it's supposed to be the audience lovefest, but i was absolutely incensed when the audience didn't go nuts at my concert! i mean, if you couldn't get on board with some of his other songs, you should at the very least be happy with that! hence, no guitar strumming for the audience :distress: - i think overall the audience was okay, but could have been a bit more lively to say the least :/ sooo since they didn't have the energy for GYOW it just felt sad... of course, i'm sure at an fm concert the masses will rave for it :)

i like that you're with me on angel! i think i watch the tusk performance of that song at least once a week  it always makes me wanna dance and sing along! :blob2:

In my dreams their entire set would be revamped. They have no new material to perform, so I wish they would revisit songs they haven't performed in a long time, or songs they never performed. And why on earth would anyone want them to continue opening their shows with The Chain? Yes, it's been a great opener, but it's become so predictably rote and stale. A new tour should have a new approach, a new sequence, and not feel too overly familiar.

1. Don't Let Me Down Again
2. Seven Wonders
3. I Don't Wanna Know
4. Miranda
5. Angel
6. Can't Go Back

personally, although i wouldn't wanna hear about half of these songs, respect to you for trying to put together the complete revamped list!

i'm not sure why would you add Trouble????? yes, FM never performed it, but until recently you could never ever get LB's solo set without it, and i'm all for him dropping Trouble from solo set! and really don't need it popping up in FM set instead!! :distress:

unlike Go Insane, where both full band and solo versions are just divine and so different, i don't like full band Big Love version at all, and don't wish to ever hear it. i'm puzzled by all the love and wishes expressed for the full band version of that one... maybe people want to hear whether SN would be in for joined grunts? :p:lol::lol:

i like the idea of Gypsy acoustic, like SN and LB did perform a couple of times before.

i would have to put some thought into how my completely revamped list would look. also, i've never heard FM live - so there are some songs that i'd definitely want to hear even though they performed them a lot - Chain, Oh Well, Silver Springs, GDW.

of course, i've heard most of LB's hits solo, either in one-man or a full-band versions, so i can live without at least some of them.

LB did have some shortened solo gigs (5-6 songs) where he didn't perform GYOW... although now when he figured out how to perform it even when alone, probably not happening anymore.;) but he always, always performs Big Love and NGBA, i believe.

similarly, i think SN probably always, always performs Rhiannon and Dreams (not sure about Landslide?), no matter whether her set is 5 songs or a full set, but someone can correct me if this is wrong. i would LOVE for FM to drop Rhiannon and Dreams, and wouldn't mind dropping of NGBA.

GYOW - as i sad before, it's just such a lovefest at about 2/3 of LB's solo shows, that i would hate not to have that.

ok, so this is just my list that i posted few days ago, with bolded songs that were either never performed as FM, or rarely (like only on 1 tour), and filling in SN songs i added as an edit. plus 1 addition (that i know they will NEVER ever perform as FM b/c it is still available just as a bootleg). in no particular order:

ok, i'm starting from UL setlist and adding/replacing with my wishlist, while trying to tame my wishes and expectations. this is not a sequenced setlist, just list of songs, separated by SN and LB songs so i can be fair -

The Chain

LB songs:

What Makes You Think You're The One
Red Rover
Murrow
Tango
Come
I'm So Afraid
Go Your Own Way
Deep Dense!! (i can go in the semi-BN category, kinda like Twisted and SA)

Landslide
Storms
Angel
Beautiful Child
Gold Dust Woman
Silver Springs
Stand Back (Stevie Nicks song - if she needs something rocking)

Why the distress? lol We are all just dreaming and speculating. I'm really not that crazy about any solo songs in a Fleetwood Mac set. Stand Back is the most egregious addition; it sticks out like sore thumb because it's not even in the general style of Fleetwood Mac, and more significantly it's identified largely as an iconic solo anthem of Stevie Nicks. Given the choice of all her other Fleetwood Mac songs, she kind of sold herself out and chose one of her high profile solo songs. It really muddied the waters between both worlds. I hate that it has insinuated itself as a set list staple of Fleetwood Mac.

Trouble is certainly a left field choice. I think it was his only solo single that got traction on the charts and radio play. It also stands out as a mainstream song that has a very Fleetwood Mac vibe (Mick plays drums on it!). I envisioned it not as a solo acoustic dirge, but more like the studio track, upbeat, with a full band and Stevie contributing vocal harmonies.

 because i can't stand Trouble in any shape or form so the thought of adding it in the FM set (which i'm sure will have enough songs that i don't like!), is very distressing to me lol. please no!!

i am however for adding some solo songs from both SN's and LB's most recent solo albums, as you can see on my list. i'd LOVE that.

hey if you want solo Lindsey song that Mick and John play on and that Lindsey said Mick would LOVE to do live - let's replace Tusk with Gift Of Screws!!

I can't speak for anyone else but me but I too have noticed all the requests for a full band version of Big Love. For several years now people have been requesting this. You are the only member that I've read so far that likes the song the way it is. I wanna hear the full band version because it has never been performed that way live. It has always been just Lindsey and his guitar and as magnificent as it is, it's just so stale in its repetiveness.

Yeah, Linds started the acoustic "Big Love" tradition with "The Dance", where he explained things had changed so the song had to. But FM are no longer 'freshly reunited', or whatever, and the anger between members has gone, I don't see the need for an acoustic performance in a band setting, especially when he plays it that way during his solo shows.

Now don't get me wrong- I may prefer the solo version if they played a band version. It just seems weird to go through the motions of LB saying the spiel "When we were making Tango, times were hard. I was looking out for love, not looking for love. As time went on, the meaning changed, etc etc", when that was 25 years ago, it IS stale.

As was said, the Chain as an opener is stale too, especially since they usually play slower songs afterwards (I noticed this with SN opening with Rock and Roll and then the next slower ones were out of tempo a few weeks ago). They need to start with a new song or one not performed for a bit at least.

He played it that way solo even before The Dance. Funnily enough, he has since played it's mate, Go Insane, with the band -- in his solo show.

Cory said they used to beg Lindsey for Trouble during FM sound checks for the SYW tour. Sometimes, he grudgingly obliged.

Yeah, I can definitely see your point. Although part of me finds his speech endearing, it was quite a while ago... Idk, I think everyone has heard it - they need to come up with new routines and speeches lol.

As for the Big Love debate. I love how he plays it now but would really enjoy the full band version. I think it would feel a bit more upbeat, less morose (a sentiment I do enjoy, e.g. Go Insane - a song I definitely don't want to hear played with the band).

Agreed back at you, which is why I think a lot of LB Mac songs (i.e. Tusk and SYW) have not been played live, too 'morose'.

I have empathy for your trouble with Trouble. Let's stay clear of trouble. Gift of Screws would be awesome!
yes!!

I can't speak for anyone else but me but I too have noticed all the requests for a full band version of Big Love. For several years now people have been requesting this. You are the only member that I've read so far that likes the song the way it is. I wanna hear the full band version because it has never been performed that way live. It has always been just Lindsey and his guitar and as magnificent as it is, it's just so stale in its repetitiveness.
why perform the full band version of BL, when there are so many other, more interesting Lindsey songs they can do? solo version is interesting and different, full band version is not - at least not to me.

no. Lindsey performed acoustic versions of Big Love and Go Insane since his 1992/93 solo tour.

i'm not sure i understand completely what several people are saying - he talks about 2 different things when introducing that song:

lyrics - looking for love vs looking out for love
arrangement - change from full-band to solo.

you seem to be mixing these 2 things together. the lyrics would still be the same with full-band version. so the part of his intro that everybody seems to object the most would still be applicable.

also, what he says about the person being able to change i believe has a significance to him that we may or may not understand. i partly interpret it as him changing from being drugged-up angry bitter person in the late 70s and 80s, to the more mellow, accepting, and contemplative person he seems to be today.

that's interesting and different interpretation. i think those songs are too off the Mac's middle-of-the-road sound, which he tried to change time and again starting with Tusk, and never seems to be really happening. they are more rocking, edgier songs... not mellower mac-ish songs people seem to prefer. i was actually thinking of something very similar when i was looking at my list of Lindsey songs that i would like to hear on FM tour, that are normally not performed by them:

i
Bleed to Love Her
That's The Way Love Goes
In Our Own Time
Walk A Thin Line
What Makes You Think You're The One
Red Rover
Murrow
Tango
Come
Deep Dense!!

look at the songs i bolded, especially Murrow, Tango and Come - they are heavy rocking songs with long guitar solos. maybe those would not be fitting for the crowd used to hear mellower Mac?

i remember reading some old reviews of SYW tour when LB performed both Come and ISA, and some people complained about having to hear those great guitar solos!?! so maybe your regular Mac audience would have a hard time with something like Murrow/Tango/Come all in the same set? (unlike LB's solo audience which is reveling in huge solos and getting to hear both Come and ISA!). although, it's feasible that next year's FM audiences will include new kids that heard FM on Glee and such, and maybe those newcomers will anjoy and appreciate stuff like those amazing guitar solos?

I have to address the last bit first! People actually complained about long guitar solos... That is so wrong :distress:

For me, how I'd like to see BL performed has nothing to do with what he says before the song. I definitely appreciate it was sort of a watershed moment for him. But, similarly to how many of us would like to hear rarely played songs, I'd love to hear something new about a different song. Presumably he has a few other tunes that are meaningful to him :)

I might be one of those complainers. On a FM stage Lindsey's guitar solo's bore me to tears because they seem to go on and on and on repeating the same riff over and over and over. That's why I hated Not That Funny live, because it was a loooooooooooooong 7 minutes that felt like 15. On a SN stage I'm bored silly with long guitar solos that Waddy performs. The intro to Edge is endlessly boring because of that.
If I'm watching Lindsey at a solo concert I'm not bothered by a long guitar solo because it's not taking time away from another part of the show that might be a bit more exciting then hearing 'wang wang wang.'

I'm so glad you said that about Waddy... Love him, but in my head I'm thinking Okay Stevie, where are you... lol

I totally understand  Whenever I've watched the Boston concert back home certain family members start to complain halfway through Come. Personally, I love those harder rock moments with FM. You make a good point about "taking away" from something else in an FM concert though.

yeah, and his guitar solos are not even very long, by comparison to other bands. they are pretty nicely measured. some bands manage to get in only 10 songs in 2 hrs b/c of various long solos

but agree with both of you - and that was exactly my point - FM audience (at least what seems to be considered their classic audience of the past) may not be appreciative enough of that kind of music - heavier edged, guitar driven. they'd expect to hear something else instead.

I would just add that in the old days, FM did more of what I considered an actual band "jam" on NTF, with one player responding to another player's riff in a way that seemed fairly spontaneous. We all know that FM doesn't do that kind of thing any longer.

Sorry, kinda posted replies to random snippets here. :(

I made my wife listen to the 12 (or so) minute version of NTF on a live Tusk bootleg back a while ago, she still hasn't forgiven me (she doesn't like Lindsey's Tusk work, although for some reason she likes IOOT/I/TTWLG).

no. Lindsey performed acoustic versions of Big Love and Go Insane since his 1992/93 solo tour.
My bad; I've actually seen videos of that (OOTC) concert series too!! :(

Same difference though, we know why you changed the song, that was 20 years ago, we don't need a solo extravaganza. Play it full band or change to something else.
I think he will always play it, though, because it was a #1 hit, wasn;'t it?

also, what he says about the person being able to change i believe has a significance to him that we may or may not understand. i partly interpret it as him changing from being drugged-up angry bitter person in the late 70s and 80s, to the more mellow, accepting, and contemplative person he seems to be today.
Oh, I understand it, the time during Tango was a nightmare, and things are 'all good' now. But the story has been repeated a thousand times, and we don't need it as a justification for playing it acoustically any more. If he wants to, fine, but the story needs retooling, it's not 1992/1997 where he just got done with FM turmoil.

Agreed, totally. I wish he would forget that mellow Mac nonsense, he proved with his GOS stuff on SYW he can mix them beautifully while not being too mainstream, like the examples you gave.

I remember tons of crowds cheering on Murrow and Come, etc, at SYW concerts, based of bootlegs I've heard.

Lindsey definitely needs to revamp his part of the setlist, though. SN's is going to include a lot of ploddy and predictable songs, Rhiannon, Dreams, GDW, Landslide etc and Lindsey needs to balance it out with the "left side of his palette", the "small machine" of his artistic side, if you will. ;)

On a SN stage I'm bored silly with long guitar solos that Waddy performs. The intro to Edge is endlessly boring because of that.
I never posted a concert review of my SN show a few weeks back, but you'll be happy to know Edge has been cut down, less intro nonsense. It was 10 minutes said and done, not 15 like on previous tours. The intro was half as long, maybe less. (May have skipped a verse during the main song too.) Thank goodness!!

FM audience (at least what seems to be considered their classic audience of the past) may not be appreciative enough of that kind of music - heavier edged, guitar driven. they'd expect to hear something else instead.
Well, but that's their loss. SYW was an album released as a FM album, you can't recall it and forget it now. Especially LB with all his big talk should insist on some harder, edgier songs from Tusk and SYW in the set, at least one or two. He only has so many Rumours songs to fill his hour of the set anyway ;)

completely with you (as you can see from my list)!

i can't tell you how happy i was to see BTLH and Come in his most recent solo setlist, considering he completely skipped SYW/GOS1 songs during the 2011 tour. (although 6 new SWS songs in the setlist were making up for it at the time.)

Back to FM, one more thing- talking about NTF made me think of IKINW. Do we want that to stay in the setlist? I thought that was awesome in 2009.. one of my faves from the show. Even Stevie got into it!

yes. unless you count Rock Away Blind that he ended up performing at about one third of the shows on audience request. which was nice, but he could have easily have a couple of other SWS songs in the set too.

i like IKINW live, it becomes a nice rocking song, although i find it more interesting on Tusk. but i'd rather hear something different / not performed yet from Tusk - like Walk A Thin Line, What Makes You Think You're The One, and The Ledge, to name just a few.
