Apparently it's gonna be some sort of a Q&A?
AN AFTERNOON TALK WITH…STEVIE NICKS
With her bewitching, emotionally charged songs—from “Rhiannon” to “Landslide”, “Dreams” to “Gypsy”—singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks cemented her status as one of the most distinctive female voices in rock history as a member of Fleetwood Mac and through her own solo career. Among her extraordinary accomplishments: over 40 Top 50 hits, 13 Grammy Award nominations, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 with Fleetwood Mac, over 140 million albums sold, and a repertoire that has inspired a generation of artist, songwriters, and performers. In 2012, she now steps behind the camera with another rock legend Dave Stewart (the Eurythmics) with IN YOUR DREAMS – STEVIE NICKS, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of their 2011 album. Join us for a lively conversation with one of rock music’s most distinctive voices. IN YOUR DREAMS screens on Sunday at Sag Harbor Cinemas.

These Q & As are really great. With fan involvement, you get different questions than the ones interviewers would ask. It's like having personal time with the celebrity, even though it's in a group setting.

There are two ticket listings on the site - one for the screening, and one for the Q&A. I bought both.
I hadn't realized that there were two separate tickets at first, so I'm posting this to make sure that everyone else planning on purchasing doesn't just buy tickets for the screening and wind up out of luck for the Q&A.

Yes, i figured that out earlier this morning. Sneaky!
It took awhile for the site to get up and running, but i got them.
So psyched for this!
For anyone who was wondering, the Conversation and where they are showing the doc are within walking distance..prob less than a 5 minute walk, if that.

I'm going to take the megabus from Philly, and then take the Long Island Rail Road from Penn Station to Bridgehampton. Would anyone be available to give me a ride from the Bridgehampton station to the theater in Sag Harbor? I would happily provide gas money. They appears to be 5 miles from each other, which would be a short drive, but a long walk.

New Stevie Nicks Documentary Premiering in October
by: Jeff Giles
In what will surely go down as the most exciting news of the year for Wiccan candle and/or scarf enthusiasts, Fleetwood Mac‘s Stevie Nicks has been announced as the subject of a new documentary, ‘In Your Dreams – Stevie Nicks,’ set to premiere on Oct. 7 at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
Directed by Dave Stewart — the erstwhile Eurythmic who co-produced Nicks’ 2011 release, also titled ‘In Your Dreams’ — the film delves into the writing and recording process behind the album. According to a press release, cameras followed Nicks as “she holed up in a magical old mansion high atop the hills of Los Angeles with Stewart and a wild cast of characters,” tracking her on what she calls “the best year of my life.”
The film promises to reveal Nicks’ long-secret inner life, which reportedly includes “costume parties, joyous dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations” — and, of course, writing and recording music. In addition, ‘In Your Dreams’ is said to include cameos from “Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon, a massive white stallion in the backyard, owls and naturally a few vampires who appear in several ‘home movie’ style music videos,” as well as Edgar Allen Poe, who has been dead since 1849.
“I think you see in this film that Stevie just tells it like it is,” observed Stewart. “She is who she is, and she doesn’t change.” There is no word on any home video release plan for this film.

So there's no cameo from Lindsey regarding say.. the Soldier's Angel recording?
Really?
Really.
Really.
what would be the ultimate question to ask Stevie?
I am attending and completely blank
lying awake at night not being able to sleep
cannot even imagine that in one week I'll be in a room with only 300 people and Stevie Nicks will be one of them

Haha, I entirely agree! And yet Reese Witherspoon is mentioned?... *sigh* Well, don't give up hope yet. Maybe, for whatever silly reason, they felt Witherspoon would be a good way to attact attention to the film, trying to get more mass appeal? If it were up to me the entire documentary would be of them making Soldier's Angel

I don't mean to sound like a downer but if your gonna ask stevie a question why would you ask her something you already know the anwser to? we already know fleetwood mac is gonna tour next year and it's highly doubtful she's working on a new solo album seeing she just finished a 2 year tour to promote this one.
If i was gonna ask her something i'd ask her about remastering and re-releasing her back catalog and
releasing her older concert videos on dvd or blu ray. maybe the reason they won't release it because they may think it's not wanted or won't sell. I think we all can agree that in your dreams shows ''classic'' stevie
so what a better time to re introudce the stevie we all fell in love with to a new generation.

Good point.
I might try to ask her if the tour she just finished will be her last large-scale solo tour, though, as some got that impression from what she said at a recent show and I'd like her to say definitively whether or not that's what she meant.

But Dave did tweet that he was working on a new song of hers, so I think it's still valid to ask what it's for. (Unless you think the Fleetwood Mac tour automatically means they are recording new music, but I'm not making that leap.)

I really don't think she meant that. It was the last night of a tour that has been going on for a year and a half, and she always says something a little special when a tour comes to an end. I could be wrong, but I certainly hope not.

No, no, and no. All she said in Estero was that it was the final "big," full, 2 hour and 10-minute show of the tour. All tours come to an end (unless your name is Bob Dylan). And this tour just happens to be winding down with a couple of smaller private gigs. The writer of the review was dead wrong.

A good documentary has conflict. Do you think this will have conflict? The year of a happy Stevie will entertain all of us fan(atics), but anyone else?
Destiny Rules had conflict, plenty of it, but not enough 'warts and all'. I fear this documentary won't be anything more than a puff piece. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not sure. All she's talked about was how great that year was for her. The only "conflicts" that have come up are her initial reluctance to co-write (which I'm not even sure would have been filmed), and then their inability to match the SA demo thus having to recruit Lindsey.

Hi all,
I'm staying in NYC for the premiere and I'm trying to figure out how to get out there on LIRR. I tried to purchase tickets online but they mail them to you and I don't have that time. I was wondering if it would be too late if I purchased them from a machine in NYC (the website tells me you can do that), or if the trains would fill up, etc.? I've never used LIRR before so if someone with some knowledge could clue me in as to how this whole thing works I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!

There are ticket machines for LIRR all over the place plus a handful of human ticketing windows. It shouldn't take more than a minute to buy if you have a credit card (in good standing).
Do keep in mind that there are no LIRR stops in Sag Harbor; in fact, the nearest LIRR stop is in Bridgehampton, which is about four miles away, and trains do not always stop there. IMHO, I would book the Hampton Jitney or the Hampton Luxury Liner bus, which actually drops you off right in front of the Sag Harbor Cinema. It's a bit more expensive, but it's less hassle (several stops throughout the city) and it's direct (i.e., no changing of trains/connections).

Credit = debit. Always.
Also, cabs in the Hamptons are not cheap. By the time you pay for the taxi, you will be paying about as much as you would have paid for a bus. The Jitney has WIFI and sometimes they even serve complimentary snacks/water.

The problem I noticed is that the Hampton Jitney gets to Sag Harbor at 11:20, and the event is at 12. If the bus is late, you may not make it to the event on time.

I was having the same issue with the jitney, if you don't get to the theatre 15 mins before the Q&A or Documentary start they're going to let people with passes and stand by people in.
After all the research I did I think LIRR is best
yes you have to pay for a cab to Sag Harbor from Bridgehampton but I'm making sure I'm there in time
Im hoping to get into Bridgehampton around 930 and if ur on the same time schedule I'd be happy to share a cab with you

Take notes if you don't have a photographic memory. ( that's what I did at the listening event at Sunset Sessions last year, remember?)

Okay you lucky guys that are going to this - the rest of us are counting on you to report back as soon as humanly possible. We want DETAILS of the doc and of course the conversation beforehand. Take notes if you don't have a photographic memory. ( that's what I did at the listening event at Sunset Sessions last year, remember?)
I'll be waiting patiently. Have fun and don't be afraid to ask Stevie a question! You'll likely be shaking in your boots when you do, but it'll be worth it because she looks right at you when she answers. :)

We had just been talking about that look in an old picture of hers. She was in this pink dress and the hole had turned itself around so that it wasn't on her shoulder any more and it threw me off as being odd. Stevie Nicks discusses her First Film at the Hamptons International Film Festival
The Hamptons received a visit from California rock royalty Thursday night when Stevie Nicks drove into town. On Friday afternoon, Nicks, the face of Fleetwood Mac and a solo artist in her own right, began granting interviews to discuss her first film, "In Your Dreams: Stevie Nicks."
The documentary chronicles the making of her 2011 album, "In Your Dreams," which was produced by Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard. It became the singer’s fifth album to enter Billboard’s Top Ten.
Stewart and Nicks co-directed the film, which will have its world premiere 3 p.m. Sunday at the Regal Southampton. Nicks will also be interviewed before a live audience earlier that day at 1 p.m. at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor.
Nicks, 64, sat poolside at the Maidstone hotel to talk about her first film and her first-time jitters. Here's an edited version of the conversation.
How did you choose the Hamptons festival for your world premiere?
I can't tell you that, because I honestly don't know. I've never been to a film festival. I've heard of Sundance and Cannes, but I've never gone to them, so I really have no idea.
So who made the decision?
Probably Liz [Rosenberg, powerhouse publicist, relaxing in a deck chair nearby]. Dave and his people spent all last year editing the film, probably 10 to 11 months, down to three hours. And then on Feb. 1, me and Dave's editor and my assistant Karen [Johnston], we started editing at my house. So we edited for four months to take it from three hours down to an hour-40. I've been on tour, editing, on tour, editing. So really this has all come very fast. I was just told by the powers that be that the Hamptons film festival was fantastic, and that I was lucky enough to have been asked. I'm thrilled to be here, because I've never really gotten to spend any time here. I'm not leaving till Monday.
How did you and Dave Stewart meet?
We met in 1983. He wrote a song for me in 1985 called "Don't Come Around Here No More." He brought it to me and we went in with Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty to help. I went home that night and when I came back the next night Tom had written it. Not to be horrific to me, it was Jimmy and Dave and Tom for 24 hours, so they just finished it. And when I came back the next night I was just furious. I fired Jimmy. I couldn't fire Dave, because he was my friend. ... You can't be mad at Dave. There is something about him, there's no place for anger.
He came up to the house one night [while producing the new album] and said to me, "We should film this." I said, "Dave, that's a lot of work ... that means I'm going to have to do my own makeup, I'm going to have to dress up." Because Dave totally dresses up, every day. I think he dresses up at home.
He always did have a dandy look.
Oh, very ... And Dave said to me: "Listen, darling, if you don't like it, we'll take it out. If you don't like any of it, we won't use any of it."
In the early '80s, there were very clear divisions between the new, synthesizer-based bands like the Eurhythmics, and the previous, guitar-rock generation. Did you feel that vibe back then?
I loved a lot of the '80s music, so I was able to relate to everything. I had huge hair. I had a massive perm! I loved the '80s, and it was a really super, dress-up time, so I loved it. And I was sorry when it was over. I loved it much more than the '90s. I was really sorry when grunge came in, because I was not grunge. And really, neither was Fleetwood Mac. So Fleetwood Mac just stayed a great elite '70s band, and that's still today what we are.
And the '80s did embrace you, as did MTV.
And that was really my solo career, which started in 1981 and went all the way till now. For me, that was "Stand Back" and "I Can't Wait" and "Talk To Me." A lot of those songs really fit into that whole genre.
Are you coming to see the film?
I'll be the one cowering in the dark, with my hands over my eyes. I'll be all the way in the back row.

I recorded the first q&a audio but not the second brief one afterward,
LB was indeed in the doc - twice. One segment focused on SA. The other focused on why Dave is a better collaborator than LB because LB tries to tell her what to do. To illustrate, they replayed the "you wouldn't say that to Bob Dylan" footage from Destiny Rules.
The doc went song by song, showing making of footage and also footage of what inspired her. My fave part were the Italian fireworks and storm that inspired Italian Summer.

Agreed. Boring. But, predictable in a way, since Stevie obviously knows its one of her favored lines by fans and she's quoted herself in interviews since using that.
Edit: I mean the reuse of the Bob Dylan line is boring & predictable. I guess it could be a way to let us know what a true miracle it will be if we ever get new FM music. Lol.

Lindsey was key in creating Stevie's best even when she was at her lowest (eg. TITN). She should refrain from slating him in public.
Meanwhile I am burning to hear details about this documentary and whether it was a work of art, a study of the process of collaboration in making an album, or a narcissistic embarrassment.

Stevie Nicks on Film: 'The World Used to Give You More of a Chance'
Fleetwood Mac memories were in the air on Sunday as the legendary lead singer showed the world her new music documentary at the Hamptons Film Festival.

Since the early ‘70s, iconic songstress Stevie Nicks has been living and sharing her dreams through music that has touched a universal nerve over the years — even if you’re not a fan of Nicks or Fleetwood Mac, you’ve heard the mega hits like “Dreams,” “Landslide,” and “Stand Back” on the radio, on the jukebox, or over the P.A. at the grocery store.
As part of the Hamptons International Film Festival, Nicks shared her thoughts about her sweeping musical career and her latest solo album, entitled “In Your Dreams,” to a lively audience at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor on Sunday afternoon before the debut of a music documentary that chronicles the making of the album.
“The world used to give you more of a chance — they might not like everything on your album, but they might like some of it, so they’re going to listen to all of it,” she said during a Q&A session at the Bay Street.
Nicks and longtime musical soul mate, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, took the love of album-based songwriting to new heights right out of the gate with “Buckingham Nicks,” an acoustic-driven songfest that is still available only in its original 1973 vinyl form — much to the chagrin of a few fans from Westhampton Beach who stood in line outside of the theater with that very album in hand Sunday morning.
“We hope they can get back together again and perform these songs,” said Lisa Pastor of Westhampton Beach, holding the “Buckingham Nicks” album for a photo opp. “We just love Stevie — you can just relate to her songs, everyone can.”
Nicks and Buckingham, Christine and John McVie and Mick Fleetwood got together, broke up, and got together again over the years, and through their own raw emotional experiences made one of the best — and best-selling — albums in 1977 called “Rumors,” and that album and those songs — “Dreams,” “Second Hand News,” “Go Your Own Way” — permeate the world of popular music to this very day.
Before taking the stage for the Q&A Sunday, the Stevie Nicks of then and now was featured in a teaser clip of “In Your Dreams,” explaining that she never took lessons or played by any rules creating songs — rules take away from the authenticity of the heart, she said.
But with the help of producers Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and Glen Ballard, “In Your Dreams” does follow the rules Nicks laid out for herself with Buckingham long ago, with and without Fleetwood Mac — the concept of the album is everything. Released in May of last year, the solo album is the fifth to crack Billboard’s top ten for this down-to-earth songstress with lasting universal appeal.
“The old way, up until not that long ago, was the only way,” Nicks said during the Q&A. “And that meant, you know, you make a record, you sequence the songs so that even if someone doesn’t like the third song they’re probably going to listen to it anyway because it comes out of the second song and goes into the fourth song beautifully.
“And I wanted to make this new record at my house, because, as Fleetwood Mac did even as recently as 2003, you don’t have time limits as you would in a studio, and you are instantly more calm. You are able to really be yourself.”

I agree, I love them both, whether that be together or in their solo projects, but I don't see the necessity or fairness in consistently slating him, as you said. I hate to say it, but it just makes her look like she doesn't take any sort of criticism well...
Haha sometimes I feel like my sentiment towards these two are like those of a child with divorced parents, e.g. The Parent Trap. I just feel like screaming, "Be nice!" LOL
That being said, I'm happy to hear he is in this doc at all! Hopefully it will come out on dvd asap :)

That seems unnecessary.
Of course, I haven't seen it, so perhaps it makes more sense in the context of the whole film.
No, it was unnecessary. Perhaps they had a fight or something. IMHO, The whole purpose of that segment was to make Lindsey look like a dick. Nothing more, nothing less. First, she talked about how much she loved working with Dave because he didn't get mad when she contradicted him, and he just went with what she wanted to do and didn't try to change her lyrics or tell her what to do. Then, she brought up the Bob Dylan thing (which she also brought up during the Q&A) and they showed the clips from Destiny Rules.
In the later SA segment, he didn't speak, but they did show him playing, listening intently, some smiling... and Stevie said she thought Lindsey was the only one who could do SA with her, that it wouldn't work without him. She said it felt very Buckingham Nicks to her. I thought that was nice. She also said that the experience finally healed them. (I thought they were supposed to have been healed years ago!)
When she talked about this in the Q&A earlier, the interviewer said that he was surprised she still fought with Lindsey. Stevie said it was because they never got over each other, and that Lindsey never got over the fact that if they had stayed with BN and not joined FM, then the two of them would have gotten married and had kids and all that.
I found out my submission wasn't in it. But..
1. Was there any footage from the Wiltern show?
2. Was there any EDGE WALK scenes that looked like it was shot from the audience?
During Ghosts Are Gone and also at the end, there were snippets from the Wiltern show. These all appeared to be professionally filmed. None of them showed faces of fans or took place during the Edge walk.
oh, and isn't LB now to blame for Christine leaving after the Dance too?
In the Q&A, she said that Chris left because of panic attacks and fear of flying, but that the straw that broke the camel's back was when FM didn't win the Grammy in 1998. She said Lindsey wasn't happy about losing either, but I didn't get the impression she meant Chris left because of his upset about it.
t just makes her look like she doesn't take any sort of criticism well...
That was my impression, too... especially since Lindsey was right. It's not good form to switch voice and tense. Stevie is brilliant, but guess what, even geniuses should be able to handle constructive criticism that actually has a legitimate basis. It's not like he said "Wow, you suck!" He was making a valid point.
BTW, Lindsey did not try to change SA's lyrics. She was just repeating the SYW incident with her complaint, which again I thought was lame since it happened almost ten years ago and has nothing to do with In Your Dreams except the whole "This is why I can co-write with Dave but not Lindsey" schtick.
To be fair, though, she said positive stuff about Lindsey too - like how he was the only one who could do SA, and that he was the love of her life and she never could truly get over him.

Meanwhile I am burning to hear details about this documentary and whether it was a work of art, a study of the process of collaboration in making an album, or a narcissistic embarrassment.
It talks a great deal about how much fun Dave and Stevie had together as well as the way they worked together. Tons of footage of them recording, goofing around, etc.
Work of art? Masterpiece? I don't know about that, but as a Stevie fan, I was fascinated.
Each song was discussed, although some got more time than others. She also discussed her childhood a bit. There were tons of old, rare photos flashed across the screen. Lori and Sharon got a brief segment. We've seen bits of the video footage from the various songs before - you get more of them here. The "Italian Summer" segment is wonderful. Of course, the "New Orleans" and "Soldier's Angel" segments were more intense. Lots of real world news footage there - photos of injured people, things like that. IMHO, the best parts of the documentary were when we stepped out of "our magical fun times in the mansion" to "here's why I wrote this." I also loved watching the way they played around with musical ideas and developed the songs. It really makes you appreciate how instinctively gifted she is.
At the Q&A after the movie, Stevie said she did this movie so we, the fans, could enter into her world of songwriting and maybe in a way it can help us all become songwriters in a fashion (it sounded much more poetic when she said it). I thought that was nice.
Side note: YouTube uploader Flaming Crystal, whoever you are, be very proud. It was your video of "Secret Love" that Stevie used when they couldn't find the cassette tape of the demo. Dave films it playing on his computer.

I wonder if she took back the Joe Walsh thing because of all that crap he said about her on Howard Stern. The infamous roadf--k comment and whatever else. And then he seemed kind of indifferent about her on his recent interview where Stern asks him about her. Idk if she would have found out about it but if she did, she couldn't have been happy.
I have an interview somewhere from I think 1994 and she tells the entire story about why she and Joe broke up and says she can never replace what he's been to her and all this other really sad stuff about it.

I think she was referring to George & Tammy too. Waylon and Jessi had some ups & downs but they were together for I think 25 years or so before Waylon's death. George & Tammy were married 6 years and had a huge duet career together almost the entire marriage, then the divorce sort of caused a rift in the careers. They did continue to have hits together afterwards, recording an album after their divorce with a hit single, "Golden Ring" and then again 5 years later with "Two Story House". After that, with Jones' addictions out of control and Tammy being controlled by her then-husband, they would not record together again until 1995, 3 years before Tammy's premature death.
I had not heard that Tammy was there...I heard it was Elizabeth Taylor
Tammy and Stevie were at Betty Ford at the same time, but Tammy did not stay for the duration. She left to have emergency surgery (she had severe adhesions) and got addicted to painkillers again while recuperating. Unfortunately, this pattern never ended and resulted in her death at 55 yrs. old.

When I first saw Destiny Rules I sided with Linds on that discussion, then I saw her point - I think it does sound beautiful the way it is, but like you said, he seemed to approach that issue very cautiously (like he knew it might not go over well hehe).
I like that she said "they" couldn't get over each other, because whether it be in songs or interviews it always seems to be "his" issue. It reminds me of the line from Shut Us Down, "I know that you must lie sometimes/To hide the truth you're trying to find." Just my rose colored glasses interpretation. And yes they always seem to be "healed" every few years or so... lol
Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and videos! I'd love for her to write that book full of wonderful vignettes :) I chuckled when she said to John, "What the hell!" upon seeing the Mac jet for the first time lol - I'm also pretty excited at the idea of her making another solo album! Hi Everyone!
I was able to audio record yesterday's Q&A. The sound is a little low so you will have to crank it up, but it should be the complete interview.
http://www.mediafire.com/?r6nk1iv06a6aks7
The first 3 minutes include a Hamptons film festival rep thanking sponsors and then they showed a 2 minute teaser of the documentary, which was mostly showing Stevie playing and singing Dreams from her house spliced with footage of her singing Dreams circa Rumours era. The actual interview starts around the 3:30 mark.
It was such an incredible honor to be there yesterday and I'm still reeling from the fact she was just a few feet behind me while watching the doc. I truly hope she will do more of these screenings and many more of you will get to experience this amazing glimpse of Stevie's world.

This is great as an insight into Stevie's songwriting process and I love that. However, it's just a documentary. When I think "solo projects" I think her brilliant music. This documentary is ancillary to that, and thus I feel it's not really comparable.
It's definitely much better than one more live DVD, though, and I'd love it if other musicians were to emulate her and give us insight into their processes as well. You feel like you're working with them as you watch, in a way. It's a very intimate feeling.
There are no new songs or full length videos. Instead, portions of each song would be played as they were discussed, and footage of Stevie and Dave (among others) at the mansion working on the music or just having a good time was interspersed with colorful "fanciful" footage like we see in the Moonlight and Secret Love videos. It worked, except for the actor they hired to represent Poe as she talked about Annabel Lee. He would just pose and look dramatic, and it was very cheesy.
The best footage was of Stevie doing Italian Summer in her glorious red gown, outside, high above the trees on her mansion's large balcony. We saw a bit of that on the trailer. This gives us more.
The live footage was very brief but that's fine with me. Been there, done that! I was a bit surprised they didn't show any footage from the crowd outside the Wiltern, instead showing at the beginning fans who they seemed to have interviewed before some other show. No biggie, though. We were all saying the same kinds of things!

I finally got to watch the videos posted from the event... thanks to the folks who posted!!! Very interesting.
I couldn't help but think of her collaboration with Sheryl Crow as she was talking about how well she and Dave worked together. The repeating pattern of her working with someone and believing she has finally found her one true collaborator and everything is great (some of which is her selling the product) but then in Stevie fashion she eventually gets bored or whatever and has to move on. I wonder what it's like for people she's worked with who have been lavished with great praise about how this (whichever is the latest) collaboration is by far the best and easiest and etc and then a few years later hear her talk about someone else and how the new collaboration is better than anything that came before (including you).
On another note, I watched the interview onstage this morning after a super hectic crazy busy morning where I was needing to manage multiple demanding tasks at once and I thought, man I soooooo want her life..... she has "people" to do EVERYTHING. I almost died when she talked about how she doesn't even put the date --- just the day of the week coz she can at least remember that---- on her journals.... "and I just hope somebody wrote 2012 on it"...... man, how GREAT would it be to live your life and never ever ever have to worry about any of the mundane stuff--- there are always groceries in the house, always fresh linens on the bed and in the bath, always toilet paper on the roll, the house is always clean, just say the word and a meal appears, you don't even have to walk your own dog! You just show up and be "fabulous"-- other people have done your hair, your makeup, picked out your clothes-- you just step into them..... Sigh. I'm not criticizing, I'm in awe. I would kill for that, especially on a day like today!

Stevie Nicks, Melissa Leo close out Hamptons film fest

Stevie Nicks and Melissa Leo helped wrap up the last big day of the 20th annual Hamptons International Film Festival, which included an awards ceremony for the winning films and a screening of David Chase's "Not Fade Away," the closing night film.
Sunday was a day to see a platinum-selling singer and an Oscar-winning star in action. Nicks, whose self-produced documentary, "In Your Dreams," had its world premiere here, spoke at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theater and thrilled the audience with an impromptu medley of several songs, including 1981's "Bella Donna."
At East Hampton's Presbyterian Church, Leo read scenes from a screenplay titled "The Buck Decision," playing the part of a poor Virginia woman. Her fellow actors included Michael Stuhlbarg ("Men in Black 3") and veteran character actor Harris Yulin.
Alan Cumming hosted the Golden Starfish awards at East Hampton's Guild Hall, where David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," starring Bradley Cooper as a bipolar man, won the Audience Award for best feature. "No Place on Earth," about a Jewish family that lived in a cave to survive World War II, won the Audience Award for best documentary.
Trudie Styler, the wife of Sting and a festival juror, helped present the juried awards. Two films won for best narrative, "Kuma," about a Turkish family living in modern Vienna, and the WWII drama "Lore," which also won the Kodak award for cinematography. "Colombianos," about a college student helping his brother kick a drug habit, won for best documentary.
The festival continues Monday with screenings of the winning films.

Did anyone get video of those parts?!?

She's a chatty Cathy...I love it. Sorry to see some seats in the theater were empty cause i can't believe it. I don't know about the rest of my Ledge friends but this is oldest I've seen Stevie look...I mean she looked like a 60-ish year old woman, which she is of course. Don't get me wrong, it was going to happen and I still think she looks great for her age. It's just reality. I guess finally seeing Stevie for the first time looking mid sixty-ish and it kind of makes me face my own mortality. Was I in denial? LOL. Hell, I think she did a great job. I'm glad it wasn't such a question and answer session but Stevie just talking...perfect. She was in control of the room, which she should be. I love this lady!!!
Anyone in Austin think she may come to the SXSW Film Festival this Spring? I will be there if she is for sure. I will be there for the film anyway. If it's in the film festival, I would love to meet with my fellow ledgies to see it. :D

During the Sharon and Lori segment they play an acapella version of what seems to be a recent recording of them harmonizing that missing verse from "Lady from the Mountain." It's the verse that goes "...think you could use a dreamer, I think somewhere on your side... If that woman could make you crazy." I love how extended musical interludes from the album are played throughout the film, and it's particularly effective in "New Orleans," where that musical motif at the beginning of the song is sustained like some kind of funeral dirge amidst the footage of destruction and desperation. There is also a snippet of the original version of "Soldiers Angel" (without Lindsey) that Stevie said was "creepy, but not brutal enough."

Did you there’s a film festival in the Hamptons every year? Virtually every city, it seems, has one — and the Hamptons have put on a fest for the last twenty years or so, attracting celebs shilling films and industry folk. But this particular festival–held this past weekend–was special, because Queen Of Flowing Sleeves Stevie Nicks attended and performed. Really makes me wish I could have been there, but since we haven’t invented Stevie-Nicks-related time machines yet, we’ll just have to settle for the pictures.

Thank you for the link, MacMan. :xoxo: I just finished watching, and it was great. Stevie is such a full-0n kook, but that's one of the many things I adore about her. I also love all of the tantalizing contrasts in her personality.
Everything, to Stevie, is beautiful, magical, and as warm as a cashmere blanket. Yet she seems to have a good grasp on world affairs.
She's unabashedly narcissistic, but simultaneously altruistic.
And she knows how to make the commerce side of the music business work for her, while still nourishing her artistic vision.
If this documentary captures all of that, then we're definitely in for a treat.

STEVIE NIXES A DISHY AUTOBIO
Fleetwood Mac is famous for drug-addled affairs between band members. But at the Hamptons Film Festival premiere of “In Your Dreams,” a documentary about the making of her 2011 album of the same name, Stevie Nicks told Confidenti@l she has no plans to write a juicy tell- all.
“I’m never going to write that kind of book,” Nicks said. “If I do anything, it will be just vignettes of the magical moments of my life.” Go your own way, Stevie!

Hamptons haven: Long Island film fest is small but robust
Oct 22, 2012 -By Doris Toumarkine
Another surprise came from a Stevie Nicks doc tucked into the appropriately spacious but slightly funky Sag Harbor venue (think theatres of the ’70s and ’80s that housed rock concerts). Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac fans turned out in noisy numbers for the exuberant and thoroughly thrilling docIn Your Dreams—Stevie Nicks, a delicious account of the legendary singer and her collaboration with Eurythmics original and renowned pop producer/musician Dave Stewart. Honest, intimate and music-packed, the film has the charismatic Nicks and Stewart front stage and center as they record their album. Yes, this often seems like a full-length promotional music-video for their latest album, but fans couldn’t ask for more. Both in fact pushed the promotion by appearing for a post-screening interview and the audience went wild (well, not that wild, as it was the Hamptons).

Ok I just finally watched the hour conversation she had and she's taking her usual inaccurate recollections to a new level. She says by the end of the TISL tour not one song was left from TISL. Not only were there still 4 songs left by that tours end but 2 sorcerer and fall from grace remained in every set for the next 10 years. Damn it stevie. That's not even recalling 1977 wrong. That's this decade.

This reminds me of John saying he doesn't have any memory of a lot of things, but then he'll hear Mick talking about them and a vague recollection comes floating back to him at that point. You're in a pretty dependent situation when you have to rely on Mick Fleetwood for your memories, because I'm sure his mind was not rock solid during those years.

This might be off tangent, but I wanted to say something about how she always seems to mention that the industry is a mess due to internet piracy, etc.
I have no doubt it's an issue, but I really don't think that her music, or even FM's, is at high risk for that sort of crime. And I say that based solely on the fact that her fans are dedicated and want all the little bits and pieces, e.g. liner notes. Also, if record sales are lower than she is used to, say from 1977, it's because the music industry is different, but I don't think piracy is entirely at fault for that. There are so many niche genres. I get incredibly frustrated with today's mainstream music. If it was 1977 some of the great indie bands I listen to would be on the radio, but alas, for whatever stupid reason, they are not. Even relatively popular groups like Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros or The Black Keys do not get the air time they would have in a different decade. It isn't that there isn't great talent out there these days; it's just that no one gets to hear them! You have to dig for the good stuff.

that's great! i guess it depends on where you live. when i lived back in the states i always had to keep my black keys cd in the car if i wanted a listen. on the upside, i love the uk because i hear FM allll the time! i even hear Albatross quite often :)

It's true. I definitely hear different FM songs when I travel than I do at home.

Oh my.... I'm afraid after watching the Conversation video it caused me to spend money over on ralphlauren.com! I was intrigued by the comment about a cashmere dog sweater, but I ended up buying these Stevie-inspired booties instead. (I love Ralph Lauren too) And what a deal... free shipping, on sale, plus an additional $8 off!

I couldn't imagine having to dry clean my dog's sweater... she wouldn't like it, it would make her sneeze, I am sure of it. :distress:

cute boots! My dog has a cashmere sweater, I think it's from Ralph Lauren, but it was a gift from a friend.

Thanks! Can't wait to get them in the mail! Still remember the day I got my first pair of Stevie boots in the mail from Maia in Hollywood. WOW! I've been sitting here trying to figure out a way to make the dog sweater work. I hand wash my cashmere sweaters and lay them on the rack to dry. Can't see why the same couldn't be done with a dog sweater. The Lauren ones are so cute and classy. Would make a nice Christmas present. :D

Oh my gosh, I always thought the doggy cashmere sweater sounded over-the-top, ridiculous, but now...

If I had a little dog, and the money, I would definitely get one! Soooo cute!

I'm loving the cream colored cable knit sweater, but that black polo with the big gold pony is adorable too (and machine washable.) Stevie's hairless doggie probably really appreciates the cashmere. What we won't do for our furkids. One of my neighbors said when he dies he wants to come back as my dog... :D

[I'm not sure if this interview with Callie Bundy is one that has been seen before or not. Star Watch media just did a formulaic press release pushing it, so I don't know if it's always been available or not. You can see it here.]
