The motto I live by "Take on the situation and not the torment". I remind myself of this almost daily.

I've always been partial to the line in The Nightmare where she says:

"somewhere in her ancient ways, she walks through the night..."

I really like the whole stanza, but that line is my favorite. Stevie is admitting she feels like she's out of place in the modern world, and instead belongs to an older, simpler time. Despite that, she's still making her way by holding on to that simplistic beauty. I've always hugely related to the sentiment.

My favorite:
"Just how deep do you hold that dream in your hands
each night."

Oh I have so many favorites! I usually just lurk but I have to join in for this one.

"I have no fear, I have only love." - I find myself thinking that all the time, whenever I'm anxious.

"So we make our choices, when there is no choice. And we listen to their voices, ignoring our own voice." - This was echoing through my head all through those miserable middle school years.

"How the faces of love have changed, turning the pages. And I have changed, oh but you, you remain ageless." - I sign every letter to my grandparents with this little line. I adore it. I also have this on my wall, in little letter stickers, until a big picture collage of me and my dad, who I lost when I was 5. So it has personal meaning for me.

"As you walk away you know that I will call. If it's just to say goodnight, and that is all. Well alright, that's a lie. She says she wanted you to stay. But you know much better than she. She's better off this way." - This kills me every time! It's just so raw.

"Take on the situation but not the torment, now you know its not as bad as it seems" - I know it's been said, but this line deserves so much appreciation. It's like my mantra.

"Someday when we're older, & my hair is silver gray. Unbraid with all of the love that you have, like a soft silver chain." - I think this is pretty much every little girl's dream of a love that lasts forever.

"All I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming." - All of Sara. Enough said.

"I chose to dance across the stages of the world. Everyone said I'd never learn." - I just adore this. It's so Stevie. I was dying when she quoted it at the Borgata show I was at. and "Sometimes I think I was always on-call. Sometimes even I am allowed to fall." because I think it reflects Stevie's feelings on her life so well.

"Don't hide behind your hair, it's a bit of gold and braid." - I know this song was meant as a "get out of my business" thing to Lindsey, but I always interpreted it as being about confidence. And not hiding yourself from the world, and being insecure. It's something I always tell myself as a confidence booster.

" I bite my lip. Can you send me away? You touch, I have no choice. I have to stay." - I'm in love with pretty much all of Beautiful Child.

"Sunflowers and your face fascinate me. You go into the dusty pink day. I come calling unto you, but you run. You're the winner, long distance winner." - I adore this song and these lyrics. My friend Brian sent me flowers the other day, and he picked sunflowers and wrote "sunflowers and your face fascinate me" on the card, because he knows how much I love that line. and the lyrics to Races Are Run & Frozen Love deserve a mention too.

These two are obvious but "Don't blame it on me, blame it on my wild heart." and "Never have I been a blue calm sea, I have always been a storm." are just so relateable and pretty much exactly how I would describe myself, as well as Stevie.

And of course the lyrics to Landslide and Dreams are perfection. But they're quoted enough

"Thunder only happens when it's raining" will always be my favourite Stevie line, and my first (and probably only) tattoo.

Off the top of my head, I'm also partial to...

"Heartbreak of the moment is not endless" I wanted this as my tattoo originally, but my friend said it's "too emo"

"I decided yesterday that I would leave you. I'm alright"

"You say it will be harder in the morning / I wait for you to say, "just go" / your hands held mine so few hours / but I'm not a child anymore / I'm tall enough to reach for the stars / I'm old enough to love you from afar / too trusting yes, then women usually are" - just that whole verse from Beautiful Child. I had a period a few months back where I listened to this song on repeat cause it just summed up everything I was feeling at the time.

"My darling lives in a world that is not mine"

"Another lady, another time, another heartbroken state of mind"

"My first mistake was to smile at you"

"I hear there's trouble in Shangri-La"

so much more.... ;)

1. Wait a minute baby, stay with me awhile. You said you give me light, but you never told me about the fire........

Wow, just Wow... I agree with rhiannondontgo. The whole song is poetry in motion, the fire in the rain, the sage that inspires our dreams.

Stevie has so many great lyrics that it would be impossible for me to pick an absolute favorite, but one of them I find the most profound is from Jane:

Agreed.

Also-

You've left me now, and it's seasoned my soul

My mind won't rest and I don't sleep, not even in my dreams

Have you come to see, that my face isn't seen....outside my frost-covered windows

I haven't felt this way I feel, since many a year ago. But in those years and the lifetimes past I did not deal with the road. And I did not deal with you I know, though the love has always been

Love all the ones mentioned! Take on the situation but not the torment has gotten me thru so many tough times. Here are some of my favs:

"And the days go by... they go into the seas that have no shores, haunted by that same closed door, looking up at skies on fire ~ leaving nothing left of us to discover..."

"Hearts made of crystal crumble like castles of sand"

"Look at me with daggers, it won't do you any good. All the looks that you used on me don't work now that you've fallen."

"And as her world turns she feels so alone."

"When you hang up that phone, well you cease to exist."

"A dream begun in wine..."

"I heard the islands calling, I hear angry words flying across the ocean like some seabirds, never stopping. I feel my blood racing, I can't believe what you are saying ~ I used to love you so much..."

"Well you could use a dreamer somewhere on your side."

"...but I am something of a dreamer."

Off the top of my head...some favorite Stevie lines-

"It's the Wicked to Wizard of Oz"

"It's like Kashmir....but not."

And the ultimate line: "So, when Lindsey and I moved to L.A.................................

One of my faves finishes these lines^^

'So I search to find an answer there. So I can truly win'.

Also

'Time cast a spell on you but you won't forget me. I know I could have loved you but you would not let me. '

I love a lot of the words from 'Real Tears', 'Sisters of the Moon', 'Outside the Rain'...there's just too many wonderful lyrics to name!

I’ve always thought it a shame that so many of her best lyrics are in her lesser known and unreleased songs. (The public gets to hear singles like "Every Day" instead of songs she herself created as masterpieces.) The first ones I list are my top choices.

“Burning… burning… hopefully learning…”

“Well, you could use a dreamer, I think, somewhere on your side”

“And then he sees her coming, Heartbeats on the wind, Considers slowing down, But then he could never win”

“Just like the sea, I rock a little”

“Fire on fire, Rain on my face, Fever goes higher, What can you do?”

“Living in a sanctuary, was mine alone”

“And a song begins to begin like a wolf on the run”

“I have always been a storm”

“Running through the garden , I’m running in brilliant colors”

“Well you know me, I’m a nomad, I can’t feel bad about the way I am”

"And the days go by like a strand in the wind, In the web that is my own I begin again"

“I was the dealer, and it wasn’t hard”

“Come in out of the darkness”

“Jesse told me at an early age I could get away”

And not to forget, the two favorite Stevie pick-up lines:

“Sunflowers and your face fascinate me”

“In this town full of strangers, in this town full of fools, Venus doesn’t glitter when she stands next to you”

"i hope you find a love, your own designs of love..."

I never used to like this song and would pass it by and it wasn't until just recently that I gave it a listen all through and that line really hit me. I broke up with a guy once not because of anything he did but because we just weren't right for each other and that line makes me think of him all the time. I really wanted him to be happy.

My all time favorite is "All I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming".

And another one that really hit me was at a time when I was having a lot of personal issues, I was really lonely and depressed and Wild Heart came on... "Something in my heart died last night... it's one more chip off an already broken heart". That summed up my whole outlook.

I'd like to be your friend, i'd love to love you to the end ... til the end

Did she make you cry Make you break down Shatter your illusions of love Is it over now, do you know how to pick up the pieces and go home.

The stiletto cuts quick like a whip through the air

Heavy persuasion It was hard to breathe She was dark at the top of the stairs And she called to me

She's lonely, lost she's disconnected. She finds no comfort in her surroundings. Beautiful, Insecure, she has nothing. She moves from situation to situation.... like a ghost.

You can ride high atop your ponyI know you won't fall...'cause the whole thing's phoney. You can fly swingin from your trapeze Scaring all the people...but you'll never scare me.

Also any line with an oo in it ! I find it one of her more endearing traits. She does it so well. She oozes oo's

We were frail, She says, "Every night he'll break your heart", I loved you from the start, I should have known I'd be the broken hearted, But not all the prayers in the world could save us. I'm paraphrasing here this is not exactly as Stevie wrote the lyrics because I'm trying to recall from memory:angel:!

The feeling remains
Even after the glitter fades

Well it's better to have loved and lost
(Ah but it's better not to lose)
Than to never have loved at all

So I close my eyes softly
Til I become that part of the wind
That we all long for sometime

Destiny rules
And the spirits are ruthless with the paths they choose

I have no fear, I have only love

And sometimes...when they ask her about the men in her life...she says, 'well, they are poets...and yet they are priests of nothing...aah, but they are legends.' And I thought that there was a...connection.

Have you ever been in love
Have you touched the soul of someone, baby
Did the fear inside you make you turn and run

You say I have everything
Well, I've been living on dreams and chains
I sing for the things that money can't buy me

All I ever wanted
Was to know that you were dreaming
(There's a heartbeat
And it never really died)

The dream was never over, no
The dream was only lost
