Ooh, i see it says official selection of the Hamptons International Film Festival. I just looked that up and that runs 10/4-10/8!

I know that doesn't help other people on the left coast, but makes me excited that i can see it here.

I just hope it's on a Saturday or Sunday. OMG, I will be out there anyway, so this is just too awesome! I seriously doubt Stevie will be there, but then again... I hope Dave is there at the very least. And I love how Sharon, Lori and Waddy get the movie star marquee treatment in the poster.

I just googled and there's a LOT of film festivals in NYC in the October time frame, so hopefully one or more will bite. I keep hoping that she'll schedule a Q&A thing like Mill Valley here since she's coming into town for the Elton John fundraiser in the middle of October. Makes perfect sense!

But it seems a bit tortuous to end her tour in Florida, fly back home to California, fly to New York the next week, fly back to California again for Mill Valley, and then fly back to New York again a few days later for Elton John. Even flying in first class or a private jet, that's gotta be grueling! But then again... it seems that the Hamptons Film Festival will be the world premiere screening, so it will be particularly special. No matter what, I'm just so happy this thing is finally happening.

FINALLY!! All the pent up eagerness for the IYD doc is becoming a reality! It would appear that the doc will be making select rounds at film festival circuits this fall. I'm holding out hope for a Denver/Boulder area screening.

All this exciting documentary news has me re-listening to "In Your Dreams" all over again with fresh ears after giving the album a much deserved break -- still a stunning record.:D

I agree. I honestly thought the doc would never see the light of day so this is truly a surprise. I too have been relistening to IYD. Funny how I hear it differently now that it's aged a little...I think I love it more now than when it first came out.

What makes you say that? The snippets I've seen where Stevie was talking about For What It's Worth being about her coming out of rehab for Klonopin & adjusting to life totally sober for the first time in decades was pretty moving to me. I thought Dave's music videos for In Your Dreams were gorgeous, so I expect a pretty great product with this documentary. :)

I am a bit perplexed about all of this. I think it's one thing to produce a DVD intended to showcase each of the songs on the album for the fans of her music, but it's another thing to release a documentary to a general film audience like they seem to be attempting here. It means that the story has to be compelling in its own right, the music notwithstanding. So the challenge is to somehow make this entertaining to someone who is not very familiar with Stevie or doesn't even listen to rock music. Sure Stevie's life story is compelling, and surely some day it will be told. But this is not it (I think). Or maybe I'm expecting too much. It could be just another documentary ala Elton John and Leon Russell. But since Stevie is co-producing, I suspect it's not going to be half-assed.

The video for Moonlight was half-assed. I'm hoping any videos on this thing are done a lot better than that. I can't wait to see Italian Summer,Everybody Loves You, and Wide Sargasso Sea.

I am envisioning it being in the same general formula as the Destiny Rules documentary: essentially it'll showcase how a veteran artist records & releases new music while navigating the ever changing recording industry climate. I expect this documentary to be a bit warmer & more personal than Destiny Rules, though... which really looked at Fleetwood Mac from a remove. I expect to walk away from the IYD doc feeling fuzzy & happy to be a Stevie Nicks fan since Dave is the mastermind behind the project. The Destiny Rules documentary did not have that effect on me... it focused on the cold business side of recording industry politics & the gestational drama from the band's recording of the album. Destiny Rules showed so much compromise & fear, and not a lot of accomplishment and triumph. We KNOW that Stevie came away from In Your Dreams with the exact opposite experience, so I expect her new documentary to reflect that. :)

I really like that it has an inside shot of her house. Obviously, that is where all the action took place. It's like she is haunting her pad with her music. I'm really loving all the covers we have gotten from her in the last 6 years—Crystal Visions, Soundstage, In Your Dreams... high quality stuff.

I don't think it's intended to have widespread appeal. I think it is meant for Stevie fans, "intended to showcase each of the songs on the album" like you said, even though it's opening at film festivals. They probably think the people who will be in attendance there are SN fans and all the other attendees will skip it. And the people who seek it out in theaters are probably expected to be Stevie fans. I mean, I don't think they imagine it's going to have political or cultural significance like, for instance, Shut Up and Sing might have had. There are things about Stevie's career that could express something in mass terms, rock and roll, women in rock, her fashion, etc., but just from what little I've seen, I don't think IYD is really going for that.

If you have a "theatrical release" ie your film shows in theatres, it makes you eligible for awards like Golden Globes or Academy Awards in the documentary category. Filmmakers who want to be fresh in awards voters' minds release their work towards the end of the year (voting happens first of the year). So maybe they are hoping something could come of this...

^If they are wise they should have it out by Christmas (which probably means it won't happen:cool:)

I'm wondering if Stevie & Dave have a fully committed distributor commercially for this movie/doc yet. This may be a small theatre run to see if they can generate great reviews and land enough interest to get this released in other formats (cable and/or DVD).
Lets all pray (to the commercial gods) that Stevie gets rave reviews and some positive press with these small screenings!

Heck at this rate she may be cross-promoting IYD (as well as the Doc) while touring w/ FM tin the Spring. I can totally see Stevie & Lindsey incorporating some of their recent solo songs on the next FM outing. "Soldiers Angel" would seem like a pretty likely given.

I would be happy with just being able to be one to ask her a question!!!

Question:
"So Stevie, what was going through your mind when the skinny little girls were jumping into the pool while you were singing Wide Sargasso Sea?"

Answer:
"I was remembering that one special time in 1972 when Lindsey and I were swimming in my mom's pool with my Grandad playing acoustic guitar and Lindsey kicked up such a splash that it ruined my Granddad's concentration. Then Lindsey emerged from the pool, grabbed that guitar and started composing a song he later called Stephanie."

Someone could always use the documentary as a segue into the Rhiannon movie! "So there were a lot of dreamscapes and movie like filming in this documentary aside from the actual real-life footage. You have spoken before about wanting to make a Rhiannon movie, has filming and editing this documentary reignited your desire to do so?"

 Yep, it definitely would be an awesome segue into the Rhiannon movie. I wonder if her thoughts about it have changed much since she was interviewed by Larry Flick, during the Unleashed tour. She told him that as long as she was in good enough shape to tour, that is what she wants to do. When her touring/recording, starts to wind down, is when she wants to focus on her Rhiannon movies, her cartoon about the Ladybug and the Goldfish, a poetry book, and even an art show. So, as excited as I would be to see all of the above, I would totally miss seeing her in concert, and putting out new music. That interview was over three years ago, so I wonder if that is still her game plan. In the meantime, I'm so psyched for the documentary.

I think the end is near. I think it's really strange for people to entertain thoughts that she is going to do a Rhiannon movie, or pull a big suprise. In Your Dreams was her big surprise for her solo career. She may do a Buckingham/Nicks album, hell, maybe even a new Fleetwood Mac album, but the huge suprises are over.

I don't think anyone SERIOUSLY thinks the Rhiannon movie is going to ever come to fruition.
