This is so sad...RIP.
"Palillo had appeared to be in good health ... but was a heavy smoker."
I really must quit smoking. When I read things like that, I really get scared.

I was a heavy smoker for 20 years. I haven't smoked for ten years but I'm still suffering from the damage cigarette's caused to my body. Marijuana smoke(THC), despite what others will tell you, is just as bad for your body as the nicotene is.

I know. Thank God I NEVER smoked marijuana, I'm against every type of drugs. I only smoke cigarettes, sometimes cigars. The fact is that I quit smoked for 3 months (from february to april 2012), then I started again and this time it was worse: almost a pack a day. It seems I can't stop, but I'm trying. Maybe I will never completely stop, since I like the smell and the taste of tobacco, but at least I'd like to be able to smoke just 2-3 cigarettes a day as I did before..

Is that what killed Horshack.Smoking took my uncles life back in 2001 he was 66 and a health nut going to gym.
I never touch the damn things.I tried weed but it did not do anything to me .I end up choking with the smoke.

I'm really sorry for your uncle. We know the risks, but we are often unable to stop. Talking about marijuana: years ago on one of my forum there was a boy who was desperate since smoking weed created irreversible damages to his brain. He couldn't even play with computer, remember what he studied after just 5 minutes, feel emotions. He was seeking help. The doctor told him there was nothing to do, since a part of his brain cells had died. Drugs are the most stupid and dangerous thing that has ever been created by humans. Even tobacco smoking is dangerous: not tobacco itself, but all the carcinogens that are used in the manufacturing process. There are so many business interests behind cigarettes, so today industries are decreasing tobacco's dosage and increasing nicotine and carcinogens dosage: in this way people become addicted to smoking (due to nicotine), they can't stop and companies get richer, despite more people is dying of cancer.
Some people denounce tobacco companies when a relative dies of cancer: if you smoke, you do it at your own risk. Today we all know very well the risks of smoke, drugs and alcohol abuse, so in my opinion it's a senseless thing to do. At the same time, even if we have all the knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle, sometimes it's not so easy: even in the food we eat everyday there are toxins, hormones and other substances that damage our health and may reveal carcinogenic. There are people who don't smoke, don't eat meat (specially pork), don't drink alcoholic, don't use makeup containing lead, cadmium and almost other 515 harmful chemical additives, don't use their mobile phone every moment or for hours, but they also develop cancer. We just have to go out and breathe the toxic air pollutants to get sick. And if more people get cancer and spend more money in health care and medical drugs, other companies get richer. It's all a business and we are all manipulated! It's like they say: "Oh, you don't smoke? Don't worry, you'll have to eat so in a way or another you will assimilate these substances. In a way or another you will need to buy medical drugs".
We all know these things and this is a quite complex and dangerous topic to be discussed in a forum, so I'll stop here (even because I went off topic).

Thank you about my Uncle Bob.
I never got caught up on the smoking habit. My parents did plus my late sister did.
Thats what not killed them but it didn't help their health.
My other uncle is now on the portable tank now.He was a heavy smoker.

Thank YOU for these informations that will help me and other people fighting against this bad habit. Maybe I'll never totally quit 'cos I love tobacco's taste and smell too much, I honestly admit it with all my silliness, but at least I'd like to be able to decrease the number of cigarettes from almost 20 a day to 3/4, as I did in the past. After my gf left me in november, with depression I've also lost control of smoking. My body started sending me some "signals", like yesterday morning when I run to bed after a terrible chest/shoulders/back pain abruptly started.
My dad had a terrible heart attack in 2004 when he was only 45 yo and never smoked (no one in my family smoke), so anytime I feel a strange pain in the chest I get scared and sometimes I wake up abruptly during the night with the fear of dying. Suffering from Hashimoto's thyroiditis made me develop a tachycardia, overweight and endocrine problems and I know there's a higher heart attack risk. Anyway not only me, but everyone need to quit smoking or decrease the number of cigarettes to at least 2-3 a day. I've lost my grandma for cancer in 2004, she didn't smoke but I can understand what did you feel back then. Who has a relative that died or is dying from this terrible illness knows very well the pain, the agony and the despair going through his family and the patient himself, so if we can avoid developing a cancer due to our bad habits, it's better for everyone.
