The other site, "The Chain", also disappeared. I even FB messaged the host, who was a former member here(who was bant for a really dumb reason), and got no response.

I guess band fan sites are becoming a thing or the past? Or we're all following some geriatric, dinosaur band?

Honestly, I think the Mac fan community is shrinking over all. A decade ago the Ledge had twice as many members. But the band has been so inactive for so long, that it hasn't recruited any new fans, and existing ones have stopped caring.

That is what I was thinking. Their fanbase is shrinking. Fleetwood Mac really needed to make a mark in the 1990s. In a way, they did with the dance, but it was with old music. Their fanbase is also dying out.

I also think that FM/Stevie have chased most of their fans away with their repetiveness. It's us diehards who spread the word but do we really want to when we're bored with the same old same ole?

Stevie & Mac could've kept us all interested if they'd release alot of 'stuff' that we've wanted over the yrs instead of doing nothing & ignoring us or so it seems. Heck I've always thought us die hard fans have had much better ideas of what to put out there than the band or Stevie solo herself. Its sad but so true. I used to be as 7 Wonders web site but didn't like it much anymore so I stopped login & just came here instead. Its sad but I guess were all a dying breed anymore. IMO :sorry::shrug:

Fleetwood Mac now exists purely to pad the retirement funds of it's 4 remaining members.I have pretty much given up hope that we will ever see anything creative from them again.I am grateful for Stevie releasing a very good new album just last year and for Lindsey's recent solo albums so clearly the two remaining writers in the band still have some creative juices flowing. At this point I'd much rather see them go it alone but as long as there is still some dinero to be squeezed out of the Fleetwood Mac franchise we are likely to see cash grab tours until one or more of them can go on no longer.:(

I'm kinda new to all this stuff, but if these other forums are closing down, is that good for the Ledge? New/returning members come to the Ledge?

I've checked out the Seven wonders site. It seemed very "Stevie" centered whereas I am "Mac" centered. Their "Mac" forums had very little activity.

There was very little activity during the IYDs drop on Seven Wonders. I knew people had lost interest in the website when the album was dropping. I think its sad, but they are at the end of the careers, so I guess I should of expected it. That used to be my favorite website.

Sorry to hear that another site's gone defunct. My message board died because people got bored.... and I got bored, too. I started getting interested again when they started doing new solo stuff, but it's not the same as my fervor at the height of Say You Will. There's nothing like Fleetwood Mac; it's greater than the sum of all its parts (IMHO). I'm not talking about the "Unleashed" trot-out-the-hits Fleetwood Mac, but the creative Fleetwood Mac.

Facebook does take a lot of traffic from message boards because it's so much simpler to hit "like" and make a one-line comment on an announcement than it is to think of a cogent reply on a message board to a more involved post. People used to come to the message board not only to chat but to get news, and now they don't need to get news here, so there's a drop off.

It's true you can't easily have meaningful and involved conversations on Facebook because once an item drops off the feed, it's forgotten - and most posts are news announcements, photos, and videos, things that aren't going to inspire a lot of deep thoughts.

That said, I enjoy the FM/Stevie/Lindsey Facebook pages a great deal and appreciate those who maintain them. They may not be conducive to discussion, but they do allow people to keep up to date and keep FM visible. Plus, those photos and videos are fun!

The lack of depth is a weakness of Facebook in one sense, but in another sense, it's a strength. Depth takes time and effort. I used to spend ages on LiveJournal typing out all my thoughts, but after getting used to doing one-sentence updates on Facebook, I gave LJ up because of the time it took. I did this in spite of the fact that what I was putting on Facebook wasn't nearly as deep. It makes me a bit sad that I no longer keep a ledger of my life, but every time I get the urge to go back, the time factor shuts it down. Facebook is easier and faster, and people like that.

However, Facebook has a lot of drawbacks, and I predict that eventually - just like MySpace - it will lose its appeal and folks will move on to the next thing. That may or may not include a return to message boards. Regardless, I hope the message boards stay around, if only for their archival value. That's why I haven't deleted mine despite the fact it's closed - the archival value of it.

No, there was a VERY similar board to The Ledge, a couple of years ago, that had a few disgruntled Ledge members. It didn't have much activity, after the initial burst, and slowly died out.

There have been other FM boards, too. Some public, some private.

Yes, there's many FM fans that don't use Facebook , but it is a factor in decreasing message board activity.

You're absolutely right that depth is better in the objective sense, but when you're pressed for time, it's often the first thing sacrificed. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but again, it factors into message board activity level.

I'm glad you haven't removed yours. Not that long ago, I visited it to read some of the old SYW concert reviews.

Exactly - even I go back and read those reviews sometimes. We were so detailed! It was wonderful.

I also remember Burnish.net. It was such an interesting and unique site. I never posted on the message board, but I remember there was a lot of drama that precipitated its fall, and it seemed the webmaster Tracey took it personally and lost interest in the site once the message board was closed. If I recall, it did get kind of personal... Lux and some other girl (I think her name was Danielle?) posting controversial stuff and being unhappy with their treatment by Tracey, division between groups of members with accusations of favoritism, some disaffected members starting an alternative board. I was friends with many of those involved and watched it all happen from the outside since I didn't post there, but I remember that at the time it all seemed like such a big deal - we were all so emotionally invested in the fandom and all its aspects that message board drama took on a life of its own.

I have found that many webmasters don't separate the worth of the message board from the worth of the larger site. I wish she would've kept the site up and just closed the board if the drama was too much for her, but it seems that in many cases the webmaster's personal investment fades without the message board's social aspect and encouragement from fellow fans.

Obviously, if there's no personal investment on the part of the webmaster, there's no reason to keep paying for domain and bandwidth that even static maintenance without updating requires. I have always said that I spent too much time creating my site to let it go and so I plan on continuing to pay those fees no matter what, but I understand why other webmasters might not feel the same way and may want to save their money. (When BuckinghamNicks.net goes offline, ask where to send the flowers, 'cause it means I'm dead.)

If it had not been for your site & board then I probably would have missed out on some of the greatest music I have ever heard. I found The Ledge last. Buckingham Nicks and Seven Wonders were the first boards I joined and helped propel me into full FM fandom.

Thank you for the kind words! That makes me feel pretty good. :)

Seven Wonders was really getting stale approximately 2-3 years ago! It slowly but surely began to serve a narrowing point of view along with lacking overall of engaging dialogue. I must have posted last on SW approximately right after IYD dropped but stopped even visiting many many months ago (so long I even lost track). SW seemingly suffered a painstaking long demise unlike other fan sites like sararhiannon & burnish.net which disappeared quickly and seemed gone in a blink.

And though it kinda sad to see another FM board bite the dust, Most interestingly, I see it as a referendum towards where one gets the quickest and most convenient access to current FM news bites in the internet social network. After all … firstly, I believe, getting the most current up to date information on The Mac and its band members is what drove most of us to participate, visit, or lurk on these boards to begin with. Secondly, would be to hash out & debate the news (or rumors) of the day with other fan members if one was so inclined. SW really stopped having current news updates, and the postings and traffic became static. Even though The Ledge has always been more robust, I sure hope the same fate does not happen on this board. I only say this because I have noticed quite a drop-off in current event postings and discourse over the last year.

Nancy, it seems to me that less people eventually posted on BuckinghamNicks.net partially because of the Seven Wonders website but your message board was the first Stevie Nicks-related message board I registered on(almost ten years ago) and I always enjoyed the website and learned so much about the more obscure music of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. I'm very grateful to you for that.

Thanks Travis! Those were good times. :)

If I recall correctly, Seven Wonders was created during a period when The Ledge was down for a couple weeks as a temporary alternate, then continued afterwards by appealing to certain demographics that felt a little marginalized or inhibited elsewhere.

Since the site was built around the message board, it's natural that it would take a longer time to "die." Static sites like sararhiannon.com don't have a visible decline like that. She chose to shut down her site for other reasons. I miss that one, too!

I don't think Seven Wonders went defunct over one person being banned, I think members slowly quit engaging or having any interest over there. I also just liken it to the changing times of the internet and public use. Me, I stay around as long as there's life and conversation anyplace. I sometimes wonder where people have went and what it is they're doing today. Who knew AOL would ever go away? Or it might as well. Stuff like that. I still find fun in being online and chatting with people. As far as fan boards, it takes everyone participating and showing an active interest or they will die. 3 or 4 members can't do it alone and I told everyone on 7W this two years ago.

I basically hung out at Seven Wonders. That was my main website. But in the last three years, the website lost a of patrons. What got me is Stevie's new album. You would think with all the hoopla that people would be posting alot and they weren't. It became a ghost town, which was very odd considering she had a new album. So I just migrated over here, but I really liked that site.

If it had not been for your site & board then I probably would have missed out on some of the greatest music I have ever heard. I found The Ledge last. Buckingham Nicks and Seven Wonders were the first boards I joined and helped propel me into full FM fandom.

Thank you!

I would also like to add my thanks because Buckingham Nicks was the first site I found when I started getting into FM around 03/04. It allowed me to hear the Buckingham Nicks album, which I probably wouldn't have been able to hear until much later. That album made me an even bigger fan.

You can check some of these old Stevie/FM websites out by going to the Wayback Machine by Internet Archives.

Some of the links on the Stevie/FM website still work and some links are dead.

Just type the url in the box and click "Take me back"

I also noticed a huge loss of members on sevenwonders after Timeless Barbara was banned. After her exit the site died a long, slow death.

Yes, I remember this time but not sure why she was banned!

Is "Timeless Barbara" the one who used to post here as "barbaolsomethingorother"? And she took money from people for merchandise that she never delivered?
