so, i was watching E! this morning, and from what i can see, both steven tyler AND jennifer lopez have left American Idol... which, in my Stevie Nicks obsessed mind means she should be a judge on the show. who's with me here? right? how do we get something like that trending on the interwebs? :p

i'd LOVE it! but it won't happen... Idol is beig chased down by The Voice in ratings among 18-49 demo so they are going to get younger judges. guarantee it! i also can't Stevie committing to such an itensive schedule , nor sitting through those horrific auditions. her life is too comfortable now. JLO and Steven Tyler neede career revivals, Stevie's has neve really gone away except for her early 90's klonopin haze.

cool Idea but I don't think American Idol will be much longer on the air the ratings are really down, Even I don't watch it anymore only watched it when Stevie was on that was it for this season for me or any other unless she goes back on the show if there is one this season. I would rather see her do a new album than be a judge.

No i-DULL. considering how she is always going on an how the music business is broken ,this is one of the reason

I agree .The music Biz is dull.If they start producing music that make since like the old days.Back when Rumours was out .Almost all the tunes in the top 40 were great. Now if we are lucky to get a half a dozen that are good in the top 40.Music died in the 1990's way before the internet freeloaders hijack the tunes.

One think I do like with today tunes is the beat. Its very catchy.

TV is in the same dept as music .Its the pits.

Hahahaha Its my age.

I would love to see Stevie weekly on tv.As long it does not get in the way of her touring. This would be a good reason to me to go out to buy a 60 big screen tv.

I agree .I just heard on the radio that Steve is leaving to get the band back up and running.

Ed McMahon's Star search had a 12 year run .It was revived with Arsenio Hall for a season in 2003 which probably American Idol killed it off.

Aretha Franklin, who's one of the most highly respected singers in the industry, says she really wants to be an Idol judge. So, if that's the case, I don't think the show is going down in popularity as quickly as some think it is. If not one of the regular, full-time judges, then maybe Stevie Nicks can have a gig on Idol as a guest judge for one or two of the theme weeks.

I thought the same thing when I heard that J.Lo and Steven Tyler were leaving. I heard this morning they are considering using celebrity guests with 1-season contracts. If that's the case she might be able to fit it in if Idol survives the next few years. It could be a good gig for her.

I like the idea of Stevie judging but then I'd have to watch American Idol! Shudder.

Regardless of what you think of American Idol (dead, not dead, good, bad, dull, etc...) Stevie just doesn't have time for it.

Jennifer Lopez has said more than once that she's relieved to leave the show because she'll actually have time for her own projects. I can't imagine Stevie having the time for a gig like that.

I hardly believe being a judge on Idol is a huge commitment of ones time. Yes, they have to travel to auditions for a few weeks. But during the actual live tapings, it's just a matter of showing up, responding to the contestants, and then going home. There are no scripts to memorize or technical rehearsals. In aggregate, it's probably about 30 days of work per season- not a bad gig at all! That still leaves plenty of time for writing, recording or just vegging. It's a ridiculously cush gig for the money they are paying, and Stevie would be a fool for turning it down if given the opportunity. Yes, I would prefer if she didn't do this; I don't think it is consistent with her artistic persona. But at the same time I would love to see her on national live television for two or three hours every week.

I don't want her to do it, but I do think a season of exposure on this show will increase her concert box offices. I bet Jennifer Lopez is pulling in higher numbers now when she tours and Tyler hopes to realize those too. Not to mention possible commercial endorsements.

Stevie does nothing (that we know of) but tour a couple months per year and the odd random visit to Walter Reed. This still leaves her with no time to (seemingly) really accomplish anything else. Her last album took - how long - 6 months to finish?

That 30 days of work for AI is spread over the better part of a year - the live show alone (after the top 16/18/24 are picked) is almost three months of live filming every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Can you imagine Stevie showing up on time to anything three days per week - even if it's only for three months?

I'd be fine with her taking the job. It would be entertaining. :woohoo:

But that's the thing... commercial endorsements. Stevie has never come within ten feet of allowing her music or her image to sell products. By contrast, J.lo is selling cars, makeup, hair products and lady shavers; Stevie would never do these things. Surely, Stevie could easily be a spokesmodel for anti-aging creams and hair products. And a Stevie perfume would be ridiculously obvious. But I don't think Stevie is interested in money that much. As such, a high profile national gig like this would be kind of wasted on her.

Nobody ever said that Stevie was some kind of Type A personality that feels the need to be actively working every day of the week. Surely she spends a lot of her down time relaxing. But she also probably spends a lot of time dealing with the day-to-day responsibilities of being a wealthy older celebrity musician- visiting doctors, lawyers, therapists, accountants, musicians, label people, etc. And, of course, I would assume she dedicates some of her time to creative pursuits such as writing poetry, writing in her journal, drawing, tinkling on the piano, etc. As for IYD, I get the impression that it took the better part of 10 months to complete, probably because they had the luxury of recording at her home without worrying about studio expenses. Plus it sounds like they were taking so long because they were also writing songs along the way. And then you have to consider that she dedicated a month preparing for the brief run of shows in the summer.

When did they go to filming three days per week? I thought it was just the live show and the results show, which can add up to a whopping two-to-four hours of live airtime per week. Yes, the schedule is spread out over several months. But that still leaves her plenty of time to do her own thing. I highly doubt that J.Lo was at home the whole time rehearsing her expressions in the mirror or perfecting her cackle... er... well... okay, she probably was, but that's not the point. The point is that this is a supremely easy gig that requires virtually no prep time or any creative bandwidth. The hardest part of the job would probably be battling Los Angeles traffic to get to the studio on time twice a week.

In the first half of the live show, there are boy performances one night, girls another night and a third live results show. Once they whittle the contestants down to a group size that can perform in the timeslot, it goes to two nights weekly.

Without shame ( ) I will admit to watching every season from Season Two, forward.

I just hope Stevie won't go on being a judge the show is painful to watch they really need to end it the ratings are not good at all for a while now. Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey and Pattie Labelle I hear are interested need I say anymore these diva's will tear the place apart and the young singers are like who are these old people well except for Mariah Carey well she is middle aged now like 42 or 43 the other diva's are in there 70's or older.

Really American Idol really needs to be cancelled.

All reality tv should get cancelled.

I rather have the older judges then younger ones. The older judges have more experience in the biz then the younger ones do.

I could not stand Simon.I would love to punch him in the nose.To bad Steve is leaving.

Maybe they should only have the viewers vote instead of the judges on the show.

i would love it if scripted television made a resurgence. good stories, watching people telling stories, not that reality tv isn't telling stories. it is. it's just that these stories are so juvenile, it boggles the mind to think of how we are dumbing ourselves down, even in how we're entertained....

but, i also live in LA and have a lot of friends who work in reality, and for the very company that brings you such shows as American Idol, America's Got Talent, etc. and i know that reality shows are too cheap to produce and make a ton of money, and that's just good business. so, they ain't going no where. i figure, might as well use it to entertain myself. i would personally love to see Stevie 3 times a week, talking and judging the art of performing, singing, etc. i think the show has completely revived Steven Tyler's and Aerosmith's career. Hell, Jennifer Lopez is making music again! i know everyone wants to think: Stevie doesn't need Idol like those other assholes, but, if you think about it.... she could possibly get so much more out of this!! you know, mama likes her greenbacks and sharing her music to an even broader audience, and who can blame her?

Vulture Recap by Dave Holmes, 1/6/2016

http://www.vulture.com/2016/01/american-idol-recap-season-15-episode-1.html

Shelbie "Z" James is one of those people who says the word kin a lot and pronounces Friday as "Frotty." Shelbie stole the scarves from 12 of Stevie Nicks's lamps and wore them all to her audition. She does a very sultry version of Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" that suggests she's lived the lyrics. She is lovable, and she is through to Hollywood. I can already picture her duet with Elle King during the finale.

To be named a judge on a long running singing competition that is in the twilight of it's run and "jumped the shark" a number of years ago is just beneath Stevie. With all due respect, this is the worst idea ever and if Stevie ever decided to become a judge on this nearly cancelled show, it would be an all time career low.........just sayin'.

Her brief appearance on American Idol that one time with Jimmy Iovine is enough to make me cringe at the thought of her ever doing it again! It was so commercial, even down to the way it was shot. Definitely not for Stevie IMHO. It does nothing for her mystique. :distress:

I dont know why all the negativity on Stevie being on TV.I'm glad that she is on TV on any show. She making up the TV time that she missed hiding out from the TV cameras in the 70's ,80's and 1990's.So what that she shows on on crappy shows like that stupid sitcom,The Voice,Awards shows and this show and AHS.Other bands and artists from her era had their faces plastered on TV shows and specials over those decades as I mentioned and Stevie and the Mac stayed home probably watching them.

Maybe she will be on the finale get together.

I hope he's joking, since she previously said that she hoped for Hillary Clinton to be the next president and (first woman president) of USA.

Edit:

Q: When I interviewed Cher last year, she said was 100 per cent behind Hillary Clinton becoming the next U.S. president.

A: Well I am, too. Hillary is experienced. Bill Clinton will tell you that he was in college with her and she was so much more motivated than he was. She’s the one. When I first met her with her [daughter] Chelsea, it was such a moment. She’s funny and she’s really nice. You don’t think that when you meet her but she is really sweet.

Q: Why is she the best choice?

A: She’s so damn smart. As far as the Republicans go—and my parents were both Republicans—there is no rising star. If you think of the great Republican presidents, there is no that guy. There is no John Kennedy rising in the Republican world. There is no Ronald Reagan. In the Democratic world, there is no that guy either. There is Hillary. Period. She’s my around age, and I’m 66 and a half years old. I hope that she doesn’t go like [whispers]: “I just can’t do it,” because she has a daughter, a granddaughter and a life and Bill. You have to forget about your life and determinedly and totally throw yourself into being the leader of this country.
