View Full Version : Meet & Greets ?

Has Stevie stopped meeting people backstage? To be honest, I haven't been to a concert in a few years ( always seems to be a money issue involved), but I haven't heard any stories or seen any pics in a long time. So, has Stevie stopped doing the Meet & Greets ?

not sure about that anymore, I would think only if they were giving it away as a contest on the radio station or TV station in the area she is performing in and haven't heard of any contests like that since 1998 Enchanted Tour they did it hear at the show radio station was broadcasting live at the concert grounds before the show.

She's definitely doing selective meets and greets; check out the Hershey thread for a link to pictures. And unlike some other musician (who shall remain nameless), she doesn't charge for the privilege.

But how do you find out about the selective meet & greets ahead of time? I'm gladly paying more for a guaranteed meet & greet with "another musician" and I suspect many Stevie fans would as well if it was offered.

It's probably done through some of the promotions like giveaways, raffles and auctions that come with a meet and greet. In that sense, they have been paid for, in one way or another. Although, I'm sure that a few charity organizations can arrange them for free if veterans or the disabled want to meet Stevie, something along those lines. I don't think regular people can have one though.

agree. it's fair and square - you pay what is basically a symbolic amount and everybody gets a fair chance. no pre-selections.

Seriously! Me too! You gotta wonder how these people get those VIP passes. I get so bummed when I go to a concert and see those passes. You would think after 30+ FM/SN/LB shows a die hard would get an opportunity, but it has yet to happen. I feel like it is something I have to do!

VIP passes are guests/friends of the band. I haven't seen radio contest winners backstage at a Stevie show in years. Even the people who pay for the meet and greet are ushered into a separate holding area and are far away from her dressing room.

Those pictures from Hershey are of radio contest winners. PNC and Jones Beach also held similar meet and greet contests as well (however, pictures of those meetings have not emerged). Based on the line outside of her dressing room/trailer, I would estimate that 30 or so people got the privilege at Hershey.

I admit I don't go to shows in cities like Hershey where she is in a trailer or whatever. If there are contests for meet and greets then the fans shouldn't be vexed as to how to get backstage. I have been to shows in LA, NYC, PHX etc..for her solos and FM and always have backstage passes. I haven't seen her do a radio meet and greet ever. I did see a sign in the bank next door to the Beacon a few weeks ago for a reception with her beofre the show. There only people backstage in NY were guests of the band.

As I said I met other country artist with no backstage passes and contests

I met to name a few.

Boxcar Willie

Kathy Mettea I had her sign a tee shirt
Dottie West

Jeanne C Riley

More will come to mind later.

Most of these meet and greets were at fairs and at the Oakdale theater in town.

were these really m&gs or just catching artists before/after the shows or behind venues? many artists seem to be very open to meeting with fans after shows, without any structured m&gs.

this is the topic i'm very interested in after having several discussions with lesser known or up-and-coming artists on twitter. they mostly say they love meeting with fans afterwards, but are sometimes in a rush and really don't feel like they can do it.

re m&gs, there seem to be 2 extreme ends of the spectrum, and then everything in between - older bands and artists who charge something like $800 for VIP tickets which in some cases come without really meeting them:p, or in other cases with meeting some of the band members or individual artist - which might end up being basically taking the photo with them and that's it.

on the other end are artists who make it almost a part of the show to meet fans as they exit the venue.

one of the in-between variations seem to be what LB has been doing this tour - charging what is almost a nominal amount for a guaranteed m&g.

now, LB seemed to have been very approachable before or after the shows during the last few tours too, but that could be hit or miss, depending on the timing.

personally, i prefer current version of m&g that LB has been doing the last few months over the random behind the venue meetings. there is time set up to meet people and you actually know you will get to ask him a question or 2, and get a signature or a photo if you want these things.

wasting time hanging behind venues is not my preferred activity if i can avoid it.:rolleyes:

I suppose I could get behind some kind of "nominal" charge for a M&G if the proceeds were going to a worthy local charity or something like that. Or if you're going to charge for a M&G, make it a total immersive experience and charge accordingly- like $1000. But considering that Lindsey is a very successful, very wealthy musician with an incredible career, it seems kind of ridiculous that he would choose to do these M&Gs just to make a few hundred extra dollars; it kind of cheapens his brand as well as the Fleetwood Mac brand. It is not unlike setting up a booth at Comic-con and charging for autographed pictures...

see, but i don't want "total immersive experience" if what you mean is "backstage" access to food, laminates, posters and crap like that. now soundcheck on the other hand... that i wouldn't mind.

and what i might consider worthy charity might be very different than some artists' management.

i understand and have heard before what you are saying about "cheapening the brand" but a way to think about it is that he charges $100 for front row middle tickets, and $50 for the rest of them, if that's what you are worried about. i've seen him in small venues last fall where i paid more for 3rd row side than i paid for front row middle w/ m&g this year. so the money really is nominal, at least it has been so far. the other thing i can tell you is that it has been easier to get these slightly more expensive front row tickets that come with m&g than getting front row tickets at non-m&g events last fall. not sure whether it's the way they have set up the sale sites, or people go for cheaper tickets, but i was never able to get front row last fall even if i tried within first minute of sales, but i was able to do it in the same timeframe this tour when there were m&gs involved.

having been to several of these m&gs (and you had the experience of going to the free 92Y one last year), i think he really enjoys these and would be surprised if they are set up to make a few extra bucks... $50 for 20 m&gs is $1000 per show, and he did i think only 6 shows with m&g last leg, so he really cannot be doing it for profit, no?

can you tell i would say just about anything to make sure he doesn't stop doing these m&gs??:angel: i really really loved them, it was great having the opportunity not only to meet him but also ask him some of the questions that i've been curious about for a while... it's really amazing to have that chance. Thinking ahead to next year, the Fleetwood Mac (Live Nation) people better put some better VIP tickets out there this time around. I don't even think guaranteeing the first 5 rows is good enough (let alone the first 10). Promise me the first 2 rows, if I pay the money.

I'm with you. I've done the 'hanging outside the venue' routine and gotten a CD signed quickly - that was years ago, back in 2006. It seems he isn't really doing that so much anymore, at least not at the shows I've gone to. In fact, in Atlanta last year, he sent out Brett, Neale, etc. to "distract" people who were waiting outside the venue (there were about 12 of us) while he snuck off. It was rather lame, frankly, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

This meet'n'greet experience, on the other hand, means you're guaranteed a nice unhurried signature and a few words without worrying that he will view you as an annoyance... and it's affordable. I don't don't know what a "total immersive experience" is either but I daresay there aren't a huge amount of people wanting to pay $1000 to hang around while he does his soundcheck.

The only way I got to meet Stevie was by paying for it - $1000 donated to AHI. It was for a good cause, yes, and that was nice. However, it didn't matter to me what she did with the money. I was paying to meet Stevie - and it was worth every penny!

The Eagles are already doing that this year. They actually deliver on their packages.

Since they're all managed by Azoff, I see pretty much the same thing happening for Fleetwood Mac as happens for the Eagles (see the column on the right at the below link):

http://vipnation.com/programs/eagles-2012/

You don't meet the band or any of its members, but you can buy:
1) a front row seat for $995;
2) a seat in rows 2-10 for $695; or
3) a seat in rows 11-20 for $495.
The third option doesn't come with the rockin' bag of merch and free buffet that are included in the first two, though.

Hopefully, Fleetwood Mac's prices won't be as high. Dropping a grand is something I was happy to do in order to meet Stevie, but not something I'll happily do just to get a front row ticket (even if it comes with a free dinner and a couple T-shirts).

yeah see that's the crap i was talking about re "immersive experience" -

Pre-show party, including dinner & drinks
Exclusive Eagles gift bag
Hassle-free entrance to venue
Crowd-free merchandise shopping
Eagles VIP commemorative laminate
On-site VIP host

i have too much trash already in my small house, i don't need to get more just so that selling first 20 rows for so much can look a bit better.

although i guess people are paying anyway so much for these rows to scalpers so i'd rather the money goes to the band, but don't try to tell me you are giving me "VIP experience". parking on the other hand... that would be ok. and hassle-free exit (that they don''t offer).

i also love how they give you "crowd-free merchandise shopping" - after you drop $1000 you can also have a hassle-free opportunity to drop some more:laugh:

just checked these Eagles VIP packages and, you don't even know where in front row you are sitting (or rows 2-10). guess you can sit completely on the side in front row for that money? which in FM case, considering various fans prefer different FM members... well let's just say i would not be happy to pay the money and have to spend the evening on SN's side of the stage. especially when for that money i could get 4-5 front row center with m&g tickets for LB solo shows plus gas for travel and staying in nice enough hotels.

#2 is no good. The difference between row 2 and row 10 is too great a variable for $695.

However, I like #1. It's cheaper than you would pay to a scalper and also cheaper than what I paid for the Unleashed VIP packages (well, depending on the venue location). So, I would jump at this.

I just think it's important that it be front row center. They can't put you off to the side of the arena or it's a rip off. People should stampede if that happens. Plus, sometimes the way the stage and or speakers are set up, sometimes, if you are on the side your view is obscured. That's maddening.

But if it's front row in the center section, you can probably go stand where you want at the stage anyway, but you also have a pretty good view of both Stevie and Lindsey. I feel that I've made eye contact with both of them, even while being on one or the other's side of the stage. Also, Lindsey crosses over for ISA and GYOW anyway (or maybe he won't anymore), so I think you get to see your favorite.

I do like to look at Lindsey during Stand Back and when he's sitting in the wings during World Turning though. Sometimes, that is hard to do if you're on the left side.

yeah, if i need to listen to all the songs that i don't like and normally skip on CDs and DVDs :sorry:, i want to at least be able to look at what Lindsey's doing during that time... :p

or maybe FM show is really not for me.

EDIT: really sorry guys to bring the above up on SN board, it was just where conversation went. i'm trying to figure out whether to even go to an FM show next year, and if so whether to just go for the bleachers (since i've never seen FM live). and by songs i don't like i don't actually mean SB or WT, i mean Dreams, Rhiannon, Sara, etc - songs that FM will do for sure. Viv and my other roadtrippers always laugh when we are listening to LiB CD in the car and i just have to skip through almost every other song.

Oh, Ed.
You know perfectly well that if Stevie sold any kind of meet and greet, you'd be the second person in line. (I, of course, would be the first.)

Haha... the way I see it, once you start selling a "special" experience to a lot of people, it doesn't remain very special anymore. I like it when there is some prohibitively difficult barrier to entry that is not dictated by price alone. It's a crude analogy, but it's like the difference between going to bed with a hot lover vs. a hot prostitute.

Since they're all managed by Azoff, I see pretty much the same thing happening for Fleetwood Mac as happens for the Eagles (see the column on the right at the below link):

http://vipnation.com/programs/eagles-2012/

You don't meet the band or any of its members, but you can buy:
1) a front row seat for $995;
2) a seat in rows 2-10 for $695; or
3) a seat in rows 11-20 for $495.
The third option doesn't come with the rockin' bag of merch and free buffet that are included in the first two, though.

I think this would be all be pretty pointless since, for all intents and purposes, people are usually allowed to crowd around the stage regardless of their assigned seat.

yeah see that's the crap i was talking about re "immersive experience" -

Oh, I agree with you... that Eagles VIP package is utter bollocks. By an "immersive experience," I was referring more to a catered reception (with the band in attendance), backstage tours, Q&A sessions, photo/video ops, etc. - not too unlike the experience Mick offered on Unleashed. I don't want some laminated piece of crap that basically says "I am a tool for paying $1000 for this piece of 'laminated plastic crap." And if someone wants to pay all that money to avoid crowds, what the hell are they doing at a concert in the first place? I agree that I would rather spend the money on airfare, nice hotels and good food.

Just stand at the stage in front of Lindsey all night. That was where I ended up and it was awesome. That way, even if they're doing one of Stevie's songs, you're seeing it from his perspective. The playing, the harmony. It's all good!

True. If Fleetwood Mac were to sell these types of packages, they'd probably start limiting "at the stage" access to the first row only.... giving them wristbands or whatever.

Yikes, hope they don't do that. That would sure suck for the rest of us.

I think you should go once and then you'll know what you don't like. You think you won't like it and you probably won't, but I just don't trust that. I think you have to go to know. Be open to extreme possibilities.

Even songs I dislike have an energy and excitement in concert. Believe me, much as I adored, adored having Christine and Lindsey share a mic, World Turning is not one of my favorite songs and never will be. And listening to Mick yell and spit is the furthest thing in my mind from fun. Yet, I enjoyed World Turning in concert these last 2 tours.

Just go so you can tell Lindsey you didn't like it during his next solo tour and tell him why what he did perform did not make up for the failure to include Walk a Thin Line.

yes had already thought of being stuck over sn stage side! but lets face it 95% of people are there for stevie so i would be willing to bet you could find simeone in frint of lb who would swap!

If 95% of the people were there for Stevie, she wouldn't be playing 4,000 seaters solo.....:)

Aha! If only all things were so simple and black & white  Firstly, I guess you need reminding that Stevie (solo) just recently also headlined 15,000 -17, 000+ capacity amphitheaters (Jones Beach, PNC Bank Arts Center, etc.) in addition to smaller theaters and casinos. Secondly, I guess you have never heard of Fleetwood Mac fans who mostly follow Stevie in the context of Fleetwood Mac - The Band vs Stevie Nicks - The Solo Artist.;)

I used to do the backstage meet and greets for Stevie Nicks and they were not cheap. I worked with her when she did the Gold Dust Tour, Crystal Visions Tour, Tom Petty Tour in 2006 and Fleetwood Mac Unleashed Tour in 2009. From what I remember she only did them in selected cities and only a selected few got to see her. Here solo tours where around $1000.00 and they got one item signed and a picture, they were very fast too, but she was very, very polite to everyone and by few I mean like 20 people were allowed. Now when she visited Phoenix, AZ that was a different story, she would have a party and there a lot of people there. She would do the Meet and Greets before the show and have family visits after and we would usually stay late like 2 hours after the concert. Now for Tom Petty tour there was a contest from local radio stations to meet her and there were only 10 that got that. Again Phoenix was different, LA and Gainesville FL were on that list of being different and if you made a donation to the Heart foundation usually $1000.00 or more then you got to go to the party and meet her and the band. No autographs though just pictures and they were taken by a private photographer and sent to you later. Now for the FM Unleashed Tour, there were Meet and Greets just by Mick only, for most of the tour, except again Phoenix, some people got to meet the whole band, that one was by a big donation to the Heart Foundation, again private photographer, very few questions asked and one item signed. I know there were some angry fans at the FM tour cause they paid a big amount for the Mick meet and greet and backstage tour and other stuff and then they could not meet the rest of the group. I remember when I was done doing the backstage stuff we would split the group up for the private group meet and the rest would go have drinks, It was a big commotion and usually ended in arguments with the guests. Doing this now for many years I can defiantly tell you not all musicians are not happy to do the meets, they get asked very stupid, rude and inconsiderate questions. Also these fans that do this are not true fans just people looking to do business prospects and have some bothersome questions for them and just want to drop names, but I have met some really nice true fans that have some good questions or praises for the talent. I have even seen some fans get an earful from some talent or the publicist.

You might get to chat it up with the back-up band....and that can be very cool....but that's about it. Getting to actually meet Stevie, that usually happens to the people who know the promoter or works for the record company....something like that. I wonder if some guys still have too much to drink and try to put the moves on Stevie?

LOL I never heard anyone hit on her, I can tell you one fan asked her a very personal question about Lindsey at one of the tours and she politely tried to not answer it. But this guest was a little persistent and he was immediately escorted out. I know at one of the FM shows a lady tried to give Lindsey a kiss and he quickly backed away. I have a ton of interesting fan stories like one lady that was literally freaking out and crying hysterically because she could not meet Stevie. As we were taking her out she started striping and singing Rhiannon. I went back to the dressing room Stevie looked out and asked what was going on, when I told her she laughed and went back to her dogs. Yes Bubba, some radio stations get a little upset also when they are denied backstage access or time with the talent.
I have worked with other talent and can tell you, yes they do get hit on like the Pussycat Dolls, the guys from NSYNC and New Kids on the Block, and a bunch of other groups and talent, even Ozzy.

Wait a minute......a guy was asking Stevie a personal question about LINDSEY(???????).......I think I can guess what team he plays for......I wonder if the question had to do with "size".......I'm sorry but if I were to throw caution into the wind and ask Stevie a really personal question, I could come up with about 20 right off the top of my dirty minded head and none would be about Lindsey...or Mick...or Don...or Joe....

:laugh: guess that's not out of the question... if he'll only do a solo tour again in 2014!

plus, SN not doing just older songs / hits during her current H&S gig is making me hopeful that she might do some FM songs of hers that i would actually love to hear during 2013 FM tour (mainly her lesser played Tusk songs).
