Its just been announced that once again Vanessa Carlton will open four of Stevie's shows, Detroit, CT, Virginia Beach and The Borgata. The last time I saw some different open for Stevie was in 2001. Would have preferred to see Marc Cohn. Oh well...

I don't mind opening act's as long they are short and simple..It's a buffer incase people like me are running late in traffic. It saved me alot of times not missing Stevie.Marc's set was simple and short. He was good.I was shocked:shocked: with the cursing that he did.

I like Vanessa. She also has a short and simple set.

Stevie and me do have something in common. We both run late.

The only opening act I enjoyed was Chris Issak. He's a guy I would have gone to see in concert just by himself.

With Vanessa, I'm just sitting there waiting for A Thousand Miles.

Yes Chris was ok.I like his tunes.Marc was ok .Memphis song was great.I was shocked with the cursing with the f word that he did.

I wonder how the Rod fans feel when Stevie will be opening for him in weeks.

I got unofficial reviews from two Rod fans. They were not happy with the Rod/Stevie pair-up. On the other hand, people in the audience really seemed to enjoy it at the show I attended last year (Philly).

I LOVED Chris Isaak. After his Stevie gig, I did go and see him and his band at the Beacon theater in NY. He was fabulous. I saw him twice the year he was opening for Stevie and, the one time was an absolute horror, weather-wise. My friends and I went to Jones Beach and it was overcast, cold and the entire orchestra section was covered in about a foot and a half of water (high-tide). Chris had this section of the show where he climbed into the upper area of the venue and, I thought, well, he's not doing it tonight, that's for sure. The man PULLED UP his pants and went wading. There was a trouper, if ever there was one. He was absolutely charming.

Come to think of it, I haven't been to Jones Beach since. I had front row and I remember looking into the water and seeing the submerged electrical cables and thinking...that can't be good. Did I move? No.

(I really should change my screen-name to Rambling Regina).

I figure some of his fans are not happy with the pairup again.

Yes I do remember Chris was walking through the water singing and shaking fans hands.

I was at the Detroit show last night, and I really enjoyed Vanessa Carlton! I'm glad she's been doing her own thing and not caving to pressures of the industry. I listened to her Rabbits on the Run album in its entirety last night after driving home from the concert. Stevie was wonderful, even better than last year! She talked a lot while introducing the songs, and she seemed more relaxed than last year. I'm glad that Ghosts are Gone is back! Her voice is in great shape, and I have a new appreciation for the vocals on In Your Dreams. It's a shame she's not just doing all solo shows this year- I will NEVER understand the logic behind the Rod Stewart pairing.

It's very simple, $$$$$ last years tour was a money maker, so if it works, do it again. It's a win/win situation, you get Rod's die hards, you get Stevie's die hards, you get a handful of fans of both. All of this adds up to sold out shows.

I went last year just to see Stevie but ended up really enjoying Rod's show. I would go see it again this year if it was coming around. I'm happy seeing Stevie solo, but would have no problem seeing the two together again.

I think Vanessa seems very sweet, and I think she's a great writer. I don't think her voice is anything special, but it's easy on the ears still. Her writing is the main draw, to me.

I LOVE Vanessa Carlton and was so glad that Stevie introduced her to us. I don't know why she is so unpopular with Stevie's fans. She writes beautiful thought provoking songs, plays gorgeous piano, has an interesting voice, and is about as humble as they come. I truly don't understand why everyone seems to not care for her.

A friend told me it was the label did the pairing.. said Rod Stewart wasn't selling well enough so they added Stevie Nicks.. Kinda screwed up her IYD's start but what do I know.... It does seem the ticket sales went alot better after Stevie was on the bill..

As for Vanessa Carlton, Stevie loves her so oh well...

That makes sense for both of them, you're right. Even if all of the fans aren't happy for the entire show, the Rod/Stevie pairing does always manage to draw from both fan bases.

Good point- I think her voice could mature very nicely, though, and it has a lot of potential. I hear flashes of vocal brilliance on some of her songs, but then it starts sounding "sweet" again immediately. Kind of frustrating, but I really enjoy her musicianship and lyrics.

If you listen to her early stuff, before the Stevie mentoring. you can really appreciate what Stevie did for her.. Still, she is no Stevie Nicks.... And I think without Stevie's continued support ...........

Yeah, I definitely agree that Rabbits on the Run is her strongest effort, but it's nothing close to what Stevie's done. It's a big deal for me if I can actually enjoy an entire album that's been released in the last fifteen years.

Actually I can name 3 albums in the last 15 years... The Dance, TISL and IYD's "_)

Have you heard the version of Carousel done with Stevie?

I love Stevie as much as the next guy, but I think this might be giving her too much credit for the progression in Vanessa's sound.

Actually, if you listen to all Vanessa Carlton's albums in their release order, you will find that they are all pretty similar til you get to Heroes and Thieves where, for whatever the reason, there is a distinct change. Does the fact she was was "studying" with Stevie Nicks during that album mean anything ......... who can say..... But being mentored by SN sure didn't hurt.... That was all I meant.....

And look at that..Vanessa is even wearing the famous moon necklace that so many of Stevie's fans have been wanting/buying. Coincidence? :)

You know what..."White Houses" is a damn fine song. The lyrics are so relatable to many coming-of-age girls with the stories of friendships and boys and summers of not having a care in the world, other than what your friends are doing and who is dating what boy. When you get older, you realize how lucky you were to not have had other responsibilities. Gosh, that song makes me cry when I hear it! Dammit:p

I actually think but for a few songs, Heroes and Thieves is Vanessa Carlton's best effort.
I do love Thousand Miles, White Houses and especially Carousel (the with Stevie Nicks version). But 3 songs does not a spectacular album make..
Just thought this thread could use a picture "_)Not mine btw

Yeah, I really can't stand her voice. I don't like her song structures either, but the voice is what ultimately turns me off. And piano, well, I really only like a few artists who feature the piano as their main instrument and her playing is not very interesting at all. I really don't see why Stevie likes her so much. Maybe she just wants to mentor someone who is clean, sober, and sweet so as not to sully her name. Think of all the artists out there who claim Stevie as a major influence: Courtney Love, Lindsay Lohan, etc. I think Stevie wants to distance herself from that.

WildHearted
07-11-2012, 08:58 AM
Lindsay Lohan also has no musical talent whatsoever so... that might be another factor.

And Stevie might really like the fact that Vanessa's main instrument is piano. You'd think she'd be sick of guitars after all these years.
