From what I've gathered on Twitter, she opened with Rock and Roll, followed by Secret Love and Dreams...although those two could have been switched. I'm just going from what @stevienicksnews has retweeted.

Not happy she still has Rock & Roll in the setlist and I think she should open with one of her own songs. However, being at the front of the set makes it a lot easier to forget, so I like it there better than at the back.

So, I wonder if she came out in the top hat. That's a nice entrance look. Michele

Me too. I've long thought of "Stand Back" as being almost a signature song of Stevie's. I know "Edge Of Seventeen" is always going to close a Stevie Nicks solo show, but "Stand Back" is prominent in her solo sets AND with "Fleetwood Mac." It makes no sense to have a signature song open a set.

I'm too exhausted to post much, but just few tidbits till someone puts up a great review.

She came out in a black dress, or possibly 2 pieces...shorter skirt...black top had semi see through sleeves if i recall. She had on some kind of bracelet or cuff on the sleeves. She looked fab. I was about half way back cause i got a seat last second, but I'm sure those up close can give a much better description.

She didn't do the red dress at all. Had the appropriate GDW and SB shawls, in fact she commented that the SB shawl was the original one from back in the day. I'll be honest, i don't know from my vantage point if she changed totally for Rhiannon, but whatever she came out in was on until Edge where she wore white.

Few other things I remember:

Some of you may know that NYC was around 100 degrees today. But by showtime and given the location of the venue the weather was great. Windy though. When you see video you'll see there were times were Stevie's hair was covering her face. She made the best of it. Nowhere near the Sturgis show, but it was constant wind and at one point she's like...ok wind, i'm done with you. I enjoyed watching everything sway and shimmy from the wind though. It just made it seem less staged if that makes any sense.

She was hysterical this evening. She kept cracking little jokes and making just funny comments. I can't explain it exactly, but she seemed more spontaneous than I recall in awhile. She even said she just watched rehearsals last week cause she lost her voice and well, she's winging it. She just seemed to go with the flow moreso than I've seen her previously.

When introducing Annabel Lee, she gave her schtick about Poe, and blah blah, then she said "but he was married...not that it has every stopped me before..." That got a good rousing response. She was just so matter of fact about it.

What else....Edge was awesome....given my seat, not a prayer for the edge walk, BUT the verse and wail that were missing last year are BACK!! I was ecstatic when I heard her go there.

She dedicated Landslide to Rebecca and Liz, the former being I assume her friend for many years and I assume the latter being Rosenberg. I noticed a pic of her mom stayed up at the end for awhile. And I thought she was going to do something for her mom there, but she didn't then.

But after Love Is. She just stood at the microphone and guys...she pretty much lost it. It was heartbreaking...just started to tear and explain how the first half of this year has been so hard. She didn't say why, but we knew. And she thanked us and said that after tonight, and having this performance, she now knows that she will be ok. Totally paraphrasing there, and I'm sure the ledgies up close will give much better specifics, but it definitely had the feel of the Woodstock HAEWAFY ending.

Overall, she was amazing and I think she enjoyed being there as much or more as we enjoyed having her there.

Oh, that's just hilarious. I love it that she's having so much fun with her own history.

Poe was married to his 13 year old cousin and it probably is best if he did cheat.

What a touching moment you described at the end when she talked about how hard the year has been and cried. How intimate.

Thanks so much for the review.

Just back from Jones beach. Very tired but a few observations for you. Before Stevie came out, the venue audio system played Fade Away (Stevie singing). I wish she had actually sung it as an opener instead of R&R since I think she would have fun singing it and it's a great song. Stevie mentioned that she had lost her voice and was not able to sing in rehersals so that she was "flying by the seat of her pants but it wasn't the first time". I thought her voice sounded good.
Several pictures of Stevie's mom have been added to the Landslide slide show including a closing photo of Barbara Nicks wearing a Stevie moon necklace. Stevie seemed very upbeat and was quite chatty while introducing the band and her new songs. She talked about hanging out with Edgar Allen Poe 200 years ago and telling him she was going to write a song to his Annabelle poem. She said Sharon and Lori were there too (hanging out with Edgar). Love silly Stevie.
Soldier's Angel was great live. There was a strong breeze but not a Sturgis storm, and the effect was magical. Stevie mentioned that she doesn't have her own children but feels like a mother now to those brave young soldiers. She asked the audience to give a little to the USO and a wounded soldier's charity. It is clear to see her dedication to our troops.
During the show Stevie commented on what a good wind machine the actual wind was and further into the set she said that she had it with all the wind and commanded (with outstretched arm)the wind to stop. Unfortunately for Stevie, she is not a witch and the breeze kept blowing.
Love Is was the closer. It was quite moving and very quiet (No shout outs that I could hear) and afterwards Stevie started to cry and said she hadn't sung in 5 months and thank you to her small (?) audience that it made her feel like she was going to be alright. Very quiet followed by big applause.

Thank you to the Newsday contest for the complimentary tickets! It was my first time to Jones beach and I thought the venue location was spectacular!

I just got back - I think this post captures the spirit of it perfectly, i.m.o. I'm sure she's okay but she was still crying when she left and walked backstage, all the way. If I saw right Waddy put his arm around her to comfort her. But I think maybe it could be said that they were "healing tears," and I'm sure she felt the love and support from the fans who understood what was going on.

I'm too wiped to say more now; I just got back and I was a witness to a minor motorcycle accident on the way home so that's made things even more intense. The guy's okay but he was in a bit of pain and yeah, he had been drinking. If I may say so without sounding "crazy," it was one of those interesting coincidences that I happened to be there to scream "911" at the top of my freaking lungs until the cops finally showed up.

VERY brief notes on the concert itself, Stevie in my opinion did the whole f.u. to age thing THREE times tonight, screaming and holding notes at practically the top of her lungs for the ending of three (3) songs - I believe they were GDW, Moonlight and Edge. We're talking 15, 20 seconds here, maybe even slightly more. WHOO-hoo Stevie!
And - she knows we love her. ;)

Oh and

STEVIE

Well my worst fears have been realised - she's still persisting with ****ing "Soldier's Angel". Everything about this song and her pompous accompanying spiel makes me want to vomit. It's time to stop following this woman.
Oh and lazy setlist as usual, she couldn't even attempt another tune or two from "the new album"...

me too! It bothered me tremendously when she opened with it! But why Rock n Roll, especially since she's doing all the new songs, which is wonderful but that takes away from songs she can do from the rest of her catalog. Sorry but there's no room in this set for covers. It needs to be ALL STEVIE. I still think Rooms on Fire would be a tremendous opener!!!

yeah kinda agree (but I'll always follow this woman)! I think "For What It's Worth" and "Secret Love" suck on stage. 'In Your Dreams" seems like such an obvious song to do live yet it remains unplayed. "Italian Summer" could be epic, too. But unfortunately, I'm not writing Stevie's set list (at least not yet) so I'm very happy she's still out there, looking and sounding great!

Really? Just because of SA?

I don't really understand any disappointment with the set list either - pretty much mirrors the Australian shows (which we don't need reminding were awesome), and from memory it's the first real US tour where the IYD songs are getting a run? Seems fair enough to me

Personally, I think that set list sounds pretty wonderful. Yeah, we all have our pipe dreams about what song should be included - but she added two new songs from the last time I saw her, I think, so I personally wouldn't be complaining. And all of the songs she has in the set from IYD are some of my favorites, except for Ghosts Are Gone.

Now I"m even more upset that I won't be seeing her this tour.

Thanks everyone for the reviews! Her quip about married men had me cackling, and the way she ended the concert is so very touching. I hope everyone who went had a good time.

I'm puzzeled also. I want to say Stevie, but she said she didn't start smoking until the 80's, and the picture looks like it was taken before that. The smile, and the hands look like Stevie, but I don't recall the hairstyle. If it is her Mom, the resemblance is stricking.

To you and anyone else going tonight to PNC...dress VERY lightly as I'm sure everyone knows it's going to be close to 100 today, and PNC retains alot of heat and humidity under the roof. It's not close enough to the ocean to get a sea breeze.

I loved hearing the new songs. For me it was my first time to hear them outside of Secret Love. I really think they come alive when she sings them in person. I am so grateful to have theses new songs and that Stevie is excited to share them. I thought Soldier's Angel was very moving and her intro clearly shows how much this song means to her. I think her explanation gives a lot more insight to the song for the casual fan.
I had a great time.

No, I don't thinks he dropped anything, she just added two (which is why I can't understand why anyone would complain about it).

stand back
secret love

moonlight
gold dust
soldier's angel
annabel
for what it's worth
rhiannon
landslide
ghosts are gone
leather
edge
love is

Don't forget she sang Landslide last night. She said she's been on television 100 times and everybody wants to hear the same song. Stevie said to them "Don't you want to hear something different and they always say no?" She said she feels blessed that she has written a song that means so much to so many people.

The little girl on stage during the edge walk got hugs from Stevie. I think this edge walk was extra special. Maybe some of the Ledgies who have been at the stage for several edge walks can comment, but it looked like Stevie was really into it.

Also for the first few songs before "go to tent" Stevie looked lovely with the hankerchief hem skirt (not ruffles),no gloves and red nails. I'm not a big fan of the metal chains hanging off the cut-off gloves.

I will never understand the schism that exists between Stevie's concert voice and her voice on television- totally different. From what I can tell, there was not even the slightest hint of that hoarseness you could hear on "Up All Night" or even in that snippet of "The Rose." She sounded really good and did not appear to be straining to hit any notes; however, she did "go lower" in several spots.

Ironically she mentioned at one point that she had lost her voice during rehearsals and that she would just come in and watch the band rehearse without singing. I think this just adds to that cathartic moment she had at the end; she was relieved that she could still do this. She wasn't just on the verge of crying; she was pretty much bawling. Poor thing. :distress:

Although she sounded great, it looks like she slowed down considerably from last year's tour. Stiff. I am not sure if maybe it was the stifling humidity or whether her back was bothering her. Or maybe it's the fact that she hasn't given a concert in seven months.

BTW, that's Brett Tuggle, not Scott Plunket. And, yes, the stage arrangement was changed drastically with just Stevie, Waddy, Jimmy and the girls remaining in their former places. It doesn't seem right to me since stage left (Lori's side) is jam packed, but stage right is almost empty. It made more sense to have Darrell and Al at stage right. Also, there is no percussionist, which honestly makes everything sound a bit more "raw" if that makes any sense. It's definitely noticeable during "Edge."

The blue shirt towards the right in the picture has her wearing the white/cream dress from secret love video. the one to the right of that looks to be her walking through the forrest in moonlight video. i guess there's only 1 shirt with tour cities

I will never understand the schism that exists between Stevie's concert voice and her voice on television- totally different.

That's been baffling me since 1983.

Well on television, what you're hearing is recorded straight from the mic at her mouth. At a concert, you're hearing her voice echoing through speakers into an ampitheatre.

And then also the fact that she's probably more comfortable at her own concerts than she is at other events...

She always said doing TV/Filmed events made her nervous. Must be that?

Thanks to all who posted details of last night's show. Sounds like it was great overall. I was worried how she'd sound after first hearing she had lost her voice days before.
Touching but understandable how she was crying at the closure of the show. Being it her first tour date after her Mom passed, I'm sure it was hard for her. Good to know that the fans aided a little in her healing process.

Good job guys!

This is hard to imagine. I'm sure if I hear it it would sound just fine, but imagining it sounds empty. And interesting to think about the intro without percussion. I guess it's just Waddy revving up on guitar before Stevie walks out.

I'm puzzeled also. I want to say Stevie, but she said she didn't start smoking until the 80's, and the picture looks like it was taken before that. The smile, and the hands look like Stevie, but I don't recall the hairstyle. If it is her Mom, the resemblance is stricking.

She looks like her mum to me in that pic. I read this letter where Stevie said that her mum smoked for 70 years: http://rockalittle.com/stevie_letter_jan19_2012.htm
And they were very similar when Barbara was young :) I saw a pic of Stevie smoking too, not in the 80s, but in the 70s, even if it's rare to see Stevie with a cigarette in hand. She's not like my Chris that in EVERY pic appears with a drink and a cigarette, as if it were her trademark :D
I loved the concert review written by Amlyn and Buddy, you can feel that Stevie is a very strong, but sometimes also a sensitive woman who need to be "cuddled" and requires sweet attentions. Quoting what Ghost Tracker said, "I'm sure she felt the love and support from the fans who understood what was going on".

During the last 2 days I was thinking about the fact that she wears a lot of clothes, and I came to the conclusion that Stevie understood very well the meaning of the words "One must suffer to be beautiful".
Let me explain this: wearing many clothes, specially when it's hot, is not a purely eccentric behaviour. It help you burning fat and eliminate toxins through sweat. The more you sweat, the more you lose weight and throw away dead skin cells and body waste that you can't eliminate through urine and feces (because skin is like a sponge). Summer is the best time to lose weight, but it's important to reintegrate the fluids losts by drinking lots of water. Maybe Stevie hasn't the time or the opportunity to go running or do other sports, so the best way to keep fit is by sweating.
After more than 10 years of suffering for achieving a healthy weight (since that terrible medicine almost ruined her life, thanks to the "amazing" doctor), she's in perfect shape now and this 2011 pic shows Stevie in all her glory:
http://s2.imagestime.com/out.php/t739293_img9347.jpg (http://www.imagestime.com/show.php/739293_img9347.jpg.html)
(I wish I could have a body like hers)
We don't understand how fit she is, since she wears all these clothes, but when she take it off that's the fantastic result. She and Chris have been blessed by God for having such a perfect body. Obviously it's not only a gift from Nature, but the result of many sacrifices through the years.
People, remember: if you want to stay fit, you have to sweat too! ;)

Set list: it's a great thing she sings "Stand Back" (my fav), "Landslide", "Rhiannon" and "Gold dust woman". I wish I was american too or I could already live in the U.S.
I'd like to see her or what is left of FM in concert before it's too late. She now holds the key: Mick can't decide alone without her. FM will exists untill Stevie will wants it to exists.

Stevie mentioned that she had lost her voice and was not able to sing in rehersals so that she was "flying by the seat of her pants but it wasn't the first time". I thought her voice sounded good.

Really? I mean come on, how many times does she need to rehearse the classics for pete's sake? Maybe some of the brand new ones, but..... I tend to think Stevie OVER-rehearses and her stuff can sound rote even early on. It's probably just her nerves but I recall her saying during the crazy touring years (going straight from a solo tour to a FM tour and back again) that she could be standing up there half dead and still sing those songs she's sung them so much.. She could take a lesson from Rod Stewart on that and just lighten up!

actually.... wearing several layers of clothes is a good way to stay cool.. Insulation works to keep you warm in the cold and cool in the heat... depending on the material and the layering technique. Because of health issues, I have to be very careful about over heating and have been layering for years.. Looks a little odd at times, but works...

I am also sure she suffers from arthritist and not just because of her age.. Hey she is just AMAZING!!

I agree, I am not crazy about the cover songs if she wants to sing them cool, she has an amazing catalog of songs from her solo and FM alone but hey we are lucky she is still touring enjoy the show there won't be many tours left so we can take what Mama has willing to do still she is 64 yrs old and still rockin you go Mama. I will enjoy the show when she plays Mohegan Sun Arena on the 12th. I was there lat night with the same friend who was 8 months pregnant when we saw her at MSG. We both thought she sounded great and was in a fun frame of mind. Loved the Poe story.....she really does have a good sense of humor. She was cracking up during the band intro's, something about people being in different places than she was used to. The little girl was brought on stage during the egde walk and had her pic taken. We were way up in the $20 seats, I don't mind the setlist because quite frankly you never know when this may be the last show you get to see so I am just grateful I get to go and have a great time. (And I only spent $20, so no big whoop if I don't love every song....I would be content to never hear Dreams again, but for others they love it.) Jones Beach always has quite the cast of characters in the audience and it is almost distracting because you can't take youe eyes off some people...like the guy who fell down the stairs. If you are in doubt about going, get the cheap tickets. You won't be disappointed.

That's just her Stand Back-shawl, she (almost) always wears it when she does Stand Back. She used a Stand Back shawl with smaller gold dots on the Unleashed tour and this one (not the same as the one from '83, I believe) she used for the Crystal Visions tour.

I don't hate it :) At the contrary, I think they're both very beautiful. The problem is that there's no room for another song in the set list, so you have to take out another song if you want to add the one you like. For example, for "Italian summer" (that I love for obvious reasons) I had to do the same, but I didn't want to take off her old and famous songs such as Rhiannon, GDW, SB etc... :)

I had a great time at JB.I have to say Stevie was not the only thing hot there. It was hot like a mother there.Yes we could of use the over high tide in the place that day to cool down.

As of my review.Short and simple Stevie was awesome. She said there was now or little rehearding .Shes a pro .She did great.I'm glad to see she mixed up the setlist this time around.I'll forgive on the Rock and Roll cover.I never cared about the original Zep version. She always done a great job on that song.I'm glad that Enchanted is back on the setlist.I'm glad she kept L&L in the setlist along with Steve Real helping her with it.He has a awesome voice. She probably keep L&L in the setlist when she continues with Rod on the 20th.I broke down and got two tee's and a magnet.I wish she would produce a program but they will take time to make up and cost to print up.We have enougth photos on here to make up for not having a program.

My seat was great and got up and got a handshake. As for my neighbors.I had a tall guy on the left of me kept moving into into me .In which I was getting annoyed and ruined a couple of photos and video ops .On that and I endup bumping into the guy in the right of me .He was alittle annoyed.I apoligized to him at the end of the show.It was hot and all of us were short fused.I other then that I had a blast and I did not see many drunks staggering around.

I can't stop thinking about Stevie in tears at the end of this show. I found it very moving and it caught me off guard. I wish someone caught it on video, not because I want to see Stevie get choked up again but because I would like to better remember what she said when she was so moved. Anyone get the moment on video?

I had a great time at JB.I have to say Stevie was not the only thing hot there. It was hot like a mother there.Yes we could of use the over high tide in the place that day to cool down.

All week we've been hearing about the scorching weather in NY and I thought about the concert, but I figured that maybe being off the water would cool things down. All it seems to have done was wind them up, but it still sounds like a fantastic show and a great memory to add to your store.

Thanks for the review.

No problem. There was a little cool breeze off the water while walking around .But at the seats .It was hot with the hot bodies close to each other .The anti-perspirant deodorant was working overtime that day LOL.I'm glad it did not stormed that night.

The wind was whipping on the stage.I hope it cooled Stevie and the band off.

I forgot to add about the wind blowing Stevie's hair reminds me of the Sturgis video of
Solders Angel. She looks so beautiful with her long hair blown in the wind.

I agree about seeing the stage-talk videos! If anyone has them, please share.

I know someone on youtube has the whole concert filmed but they only put up a few songs.

Yeah,I hate when you tube posters insist on cutting songs abruptly at the very end after going through all the trouble.

Really? Just because of SA?

I don't really understand any disappointment with the set list either - pretty much mirrors the Australian shows (which we don't need reminding were awesome), and from memory it's the first real US tour where the IYD songs are getting a run? Seems fair enough to me

what? you want someone to reiterate how FREAKING AWESOME the aussie shows were?????????? kinda sad now in hindsight but they were fkn fab in the moment :wavey:

Minus emailing the dude who has the whole show ;) does anyone have a full EO17 with edge walk from Jones Beach?

In the one full clip on youtube, the dude filming takes a bit of a break during edge walk. Not that I blame him!

Following the Gypsy Highway: Stevie Nicks at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre

STEVIE NICKS
Friday, June 29, 2012
Nikon at Jones Beach Theater
Wantagh, NY

THE TRUTH
I have been a Stevie Nicks fan since my early adolescence; I can’t exactly remember when I fell for her, but it was many moons ago, when her warm spiced drink of a voice first vibrated the bones and cartilage of my ears into submission. I really got into Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks in my early teen years. I was at a peak in my Fleetwood Mac craze in 1997 when their live album The Dance was released. If that CD were a record, I would have worn through the vinyl; I listened to it so many times. I greatly love Fleetwood Mac, but was also drawn into Stevie’s solo career, having always found a sort of solace in her voice and poetic imagery as well as her enigmatic and witchy iconography. I remember listening to her Timespace album over and over in my room during high school, it was the first way I introduced myself to the majority of her work. Luckily around that time her music was featured in Practical Magic and she was having a bit of a comeback of sorts. I found Bella Donna, and so on and so forth until she was tied to my heart in a tight hormonal knot. So for all of these reasons Stevie (Fleetwood Mac) was on my Bucket List. I had to see her before I died! Or she died! I had to see her! So in early 2012 when I heard that she was touring, I freaked. I saw that she was touring with Rod Stewart for the Heart and Soul Tour, but I wanted to see Stevie alone. I didn’t want to share her with anyone. If she was sharing her stage time with anybody, I wanted it to be with Fleetwood Mac! So I panicked, looking at the tour dates, and I found a couple of shows before she joined him where she was alone. None all too close; I think I found three that were doable. The beginning of the tour started in New York. The Nikon at Jones Beach. I could do that! I franticly purchased tickets for my best friend, Hilary, and I for an epic drive and concert. I realized it was 6 hours away...and right on the beach...and in LONG ISLAND! At least, I THINK I realized these things at the time? I purchased the tickets months beforehand and sat on the idea of having to drive that far and through the traffic I would have to in order to see Stevie. I tried my best to remain Zen. “Oh, I’m doing it.” Finally, the day came. It would be a journey of decently sized proportions to finally witness the live performance and essence of the woman whose music has been an emotional salve for me throughout much of my life. In June of this year I traveled to see Stevie Nicks at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater with my best good friend and it was “Bucket List Epic” in SO many ways!

THE DRIVE
The drive to Long Island was basically insane and great, in a road-schooled, fight-or-flight, nervous-cool kind of way. I had never driven through traffic like that in my life; I had never been on a 6 lane expressway as the driver in a vehicle before. This entire trip was very symbolic of my growth and personal ability. We were just a pair of best girls on an epic adventure, like Thelma and Louise, only hopefully not even remotely like Thelma and Louise, other than the car ride, and an added concert. Maybe more like Gypsy 84? Yeah, probably NOTHING like Gypsy 84, other than we were heading to see Stevie Nicks. (Crazy movie; watch it if you haven’t.) Best good pals...on a road trip to the big city beach venue to see a female rock and roll icon and put our feet in the water. Instead of driving off of a cliff we were going to stand head to head with the ocean and look Stevie Nicks straight in the eyes. Well, at least into her large sized eyes on the teleprompter. This wasn’t just a concert; this was a journey of a lifetime. No big deal.

There really is no telling what can happen on a road trip adventure, so I kissed my child goodbye that morning and hoped to face this travel demon bravely and wisely. I had a copy of printed directions and a Tom Tom, as well as a copilot; this would be fine! It was only Hilary and I on this trip, the fate of the evening rested in our hands. We were 6 hours away from the Nikon. Would we see Stevie Nicks that night, or would our car plummet off of the George Washington Bridge? There was no doubt in my mind that we would roll onto the beach, stand in the surf, and then view a momentous performance by Ms. Stevie Nicks as the sun sank into the sand. Let’s went!

Behind the wheel, I was on fire. When faced with wild traffic and the expressways, I immediately went into the survival mode needed in order to traverse the roads with the city folk. I had ridden into New York City and large cities before, although I had never driven into such an area myself until this point. I wasn’t going INTO the city, but I was driving through the Bronx and heading at NYC and through it, on to the historical Long Island shore. I made myself proud, real proud. There were moments during this trip where I looked out at what I was driving through or past and I was taken back by the fact that I was commanding the vehicle. “I’ll ride anywhere with you,” Hilary said upon our return. We had survived tolls, city merges, The Bronx Expressway, a loop dee loop designed on acid. I gained a lot of driving knowledge and experience on this trip. It has prepared me for great things. We arrived at Jones Beach on schedule. We pulled into the Nikon elated with “GOAL” practically beaming out of my pupils and asked about gas, forgetting there were no service stations in the park. We drove back into Long Island and got some gas for our home trip and bought lunch at an authentic Long Island deli before heading into Jones Beach for the evening of evenings. I even made myself proud there, and we even talked to an authentic Long Islander that gave us directions to an excellent deli to eat at. A sandwich and a drink and it’s back to the beach.

THE BEACH
The beach was centering; it was the calm before the storm, or afterwards, or the eye? I’m not sure, it was something. It seemingly took us forever to trudge through the sand, our shoes in hand, my camera dangling from my neck snapping pictures along the way. It was a real in-the-moment moment. The drive was the first leg of our journey, the first “battle”, our second was the ocean. We were on a mission. We had to get to that water. It was the symbolic end of the drive. GOAL! Hilary had never touched the ocean before; she had seen it and been in the sand, although she had never submerged her feet into its lapping surf. Its vastness is somewhat unnerving to her. Understandably so, it’s as deep as the void, the metaphor is strong, but that’s another story and battle all together. The prize was to sink our feet into that sand and let the tide pull away, burying our feet slowly; one of the best sensations in life. I remember doing this as a child during our trips to the beach. How could I describe to her how momentous this feeling was? She simply had to experience it for herself.

Jones Beach was really neat. You could see the Nikon across the Ocean Parkway in the distance while standing on the beach. The sand felt amazing and we stood for what seemed like hours watching people swim and play, watching the waves come in and roll out, listening to the birds in the moment. A part of the goal was accomplished. We had made it there, at least! We stood recharging ourselves in the wind of the waves for awhile. Let’s roll on.

THE NIKON
The Nikon is an impressive venue, a circus of sorts behind the gates. There were booths and venders everywhere. We purchased Zippo lighters from the Zippo booth; ironic, we travel all the way to New York and we buy Pennsylvania made Zippo lighters as souvenirs. I also later got a Stevie Nicks t-shirt and magnet as swag. The Nikon is an amphitheatre alongside the bay, open to the heavens. The nosebleed section surely would have a bird’s eye view of the ocean, in this way I wondered if they could charge more for worse seats? Ha! We got yummy fruity drinks and then got settled in our seats and awaited Stevie. We missed the opening act completely, but the timing was ultimately perfect, so who cares. We were there for Stevie Nicks.

THE STEVIE
Stevie is some kind of a musical goddess. Ms. Nicks is truly everything she seems to be. Not that I am biased but seriously if any one of you talks bad about Ms. Nicks I will backhand you with a vinyl copy of Bella Donna and choke you with a flowing scarf. She was so very intimate with the audience and so emotional during her performance. She had nice personal chats in between songs, talking to us like we were old friends. She even started crying at the end during her “goodbye”. She was conveying how important this night was to her, being the first night on her newly starting stretch of tour after weeks of battling voice problems. The unconditional love and acceptance from her fans touched her in a way that we were able to experience first hand that night. She honestly loves us.

THE SETLIST
I was prepared for the setlist somewhat because I had familiarized myself with her 2011 setlist. This was still the same tour, basically, promoting In Your Dreams, so I was so glad that I had done so because I was basically aware of every song that she would play for us that night, aside from their order and a few surprise covers. I think she opened with Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll, followed by Enchanted, I believe. We heard everything from Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, Landslide, Leather and Lace, Stand Back, Edge of Seventeen. From her In Your Dreams album she played For What It’s Worth, which brought me to tears. I had been waiting to hear that song and in a weird way, that's what this trip was all about, and I had a moment during its play under the moon light at the Nikon, 6+ hours from home...just me and my best good pal. She also played from In Your Dreams: Soldier’s Angel, Secret Love, and Annabel Lee. So many new songs, so many classics; so many songs that were so incredibly moving to experience live were performed beneath a gorgeous moon in a gentle wind. This concert was the most emotional one I have ever been to in my life. It was a triumphant, I-am-woman-hear-me-roar kind of feeling! I cried and my heart pumped and I smiled and bounced. Gold Dust Woman literally made my nipples hard. Stevie Nicks totally gave me hard nips! Bless her darling heart!

THE ATMOSPHERE
It was a clear evening with crisp air and was slightly windy along the waterside. The night air from the bay kept blowing up across the crowd, blowing up across Stevie Nicks. Her hair and scarves and black flowing dress danced in its gusts like magic. No hat for her on this night, for she surely would have lost it. The wind blew her golden hair into her face continuously throughout the show, a shimmering air-made pyrotechnics show, making her all the more glorious and captivating. The moon was ghostly and blanketed under a shroud of clouds. We floated back to the car on a high that could never be relived, refelt, or recreated.

THE VOICE

Her voice was like literal butter, melting down my ear canals and over my ear drum and inner bits like they were freshly popped corn kernels. I couldn’t believe that I was hearing her voice in real time and not on a recording or on television. I reflected on that fact and immediately my eyes welled up. I had been listening to Stevie Nicks for so long. It was a real life goal seeing her perform live, and she lived up to everything I made her out to be. It was amazing that she was having such problems with her voice because other than a few places, you couldn’t even detect flaw. You wouldn’t even be able to tell she had no voice a few weeks prior. She was obviously a little worried about it but carried on and she was marvelous. I commend her for being so open and frank about her plight with the crowd and her love for everyone just seems so genuine and heartfelt. She sounds just like herself, she sounds just like Stevie Nicks. This, unfortunately, can not be said about everyone that you see live.

THE DRESS
She dressed like a night gypsy, in her traditional flowing black shawls and scarves, with corsets and boots. Toward the end of the performance she changed into a beautiful white ensemble. During her performance of Stand Back she did the traditional spin, somehow managing not to fall in her huge platform boots. She later said that the shawl was the original “Stand Back Shawl” from the video, I believe she meant. I had been listening to this song hardcore for a week or more at the time and had hoped I would be able to hear it. Later on the drive home it would be playing as I was speeding along the Bronx Expressway flowing with the night traffic. I was empowered in that moment. Smiling to myself, I knew we would get home fine. There were no worries in that moment. I was driving home on the high of a major goal accomplished with my artistic vein pumping. I was high on experience.

THE CONVERSATION
She carried on a conversation with the crowd like we were old friends, talking of things from years ago or preparing for this tour. She was very emotional because of the height of the night; this was the first night of her new tour and her voice had given out a few weeks earlier. She discussed her obstacles and her accomplishments, all in a tone that let you believe you could really be her pal. She seemed like such an honestly cool woman, and she even commented on how she is remarkably like how she used to be before she became famous. Her guitarist knew her back in the day before these days, and he plays with her now. She said he can verify it. Imagine, being friends with someone and then touring with them after they are a famous music icon.

THE BAND
Her backup singers are made up of her sister-in-law and other women she has known for years. Her guitarist she has known since before she was famous. They all have a really good stage relationship. The guitar is really great and the drummer was very enthusiastic. They did an excellent job recreating her songs, especially considering the Fleetwood Mac ones were done without Lindsay Buckingham and her solo stuff was heavy on the synthesizer. Stand Back was a good version and very fun, it sounded good, though obviously not like the original. She spoke of how Prince came into the studio while they were recording it on her AXS Concert and laid down the synthesizer track and then disappeared. Now two keyboardists can’t recreate what Prince did on that record. But it was still a great attempt at recreation of the classics, and a wonderful show of the new stuff.

THE GRACE
She was incredibly gracious with the audience, exiting the stage after the encore and the bow, but then coming back out to shake hands and greet all of the audience members in the front rows which is something that I had never seen before in a performance. She was touching children and taking flowers. There was a man by her side with his arm around her waste, lest she be swept away by a fan or the wind or fragility. (Perhaps insurance against those boots?) She was wonderful. She was a lady and a true entertainer.

THE LESSON
The drive home was rough, being that I left New York around 11PM and didn't get into native terrain until heading on 5:30. After my copilot fell asleep I blasted Old Crow Medicine Show and sang to myself to keep myself awake. There were some blurry eyed moments on the interstate but we rolled into town just as the sun was coming up. I dropped off Hilary and went the long way home, stopping at the crossroads view to watch the freshly risen sun over the rolling hills of home. I gathered myself and let what just transpired settle a little, and then headed on down the grove to put myself to sleep, a new woman. This ride and concert brought out my inner feminine strength and was just what I needed at that moment in 2012! "See, we don't need the guys. We can go ANYWHERE!" Hilary stated. True that! It gave me an energetic burst that got me through more days of that year, and released a lot of emotion while giving some areas in my life a crystalline piece of closure. It was kismet.
