The best night time soap opera is back.
Yes, of course I'm talking about Dallas.
The two hour premiere was tonight on
TNT. While I hope the focus will be more
on the original characters, it still turned
out pretty good (for what it is).
Anyone watch it?
J.R. Ewing and Roger Thorpe. It's too bad
these characters never met on screen.

I loved Dallas! I actually went to Suouthfork Ranch when I was in Texas last uyear and it was a fantastic morning! You can walk virtually all round the grounds unsupervised after getting a little tour and some information from the guide, who was very fun!
There was only a tiny part of the ground we couldn't go through because they were filming some exteriors for the new show. Exciting! I'll upload some pictures later.
So, in short, I'm VERY excited about the remake! I was very dubious until I heard that Larry Hargman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray were back too.

tho i am more of a 'knots landing' fan (JR's brother gary was on it) i did watch 'dallas' back in the day~ i thought the new 'dallas' was fantastic & was happy to see the new characters, but mostly to see all the people they brought back~ & i loved that the opening theme song was basically the same, a newer version, but the same:D~

It's cool to know all you Ledgies watched Dallas.
For those who missed it, I think you can watch it
also from TNT's website. They had full episodes of
some of their shows available.
I heard it did very well in the ratings. And as cheesy
as it might be, I'm surprised the networks passed on
the chance to air it.
Larry Hagman looked like death warmed over. I guess
he's lucky to still be around with all his health problems
through the years.

I think it might be available free on Comcast On demand TV .I have not check it yet
.The 4 networks are busy with crap reality shows and boooorrring sitcoms .By right CBS should of pick the show up.It was on CBS on fridays at 9pm.Now they got CSI NY at 9pm.Which I like that show .Undercover Boss show could be dumped.CSI at 8pm .Dallas back at 9pm where it belongs.I hope the trend of reality crap shows will end .but it seems like more popping out from everywhere.
Larry Hagman A great actor. He is the same age as my dad was.
To come think about it.I wonder if they going to make J.R. more of a prick at his old age the he was 30 years ago.

1. Southfork was signed over to Bobby in season 13, while Ellie was alive. The will would't change that.
2. It was Bobby James Ewing from the start, never Robert.
3. Southfork is in Braddock, not Dallas.

Christopher was adopted by Bobby and Pam. His biological mother is Kristen, Sue Ellen's sister and the one who shot JR. She had blackmailed a few men, including JR, saying they were the father. After she was found dead in Southfork's pool, a man named Jeff Faraday tried to blackmail JR via Bobby, however, Bobby was on to his game and offered to buy the baby outright. When Bobby got back to Southfork with the baby, he was greeted by Pam, who had been in a psych ward after becoming so depressed about not being able to have kids that she attempted suicide, and she thought Bobby got the baby for them. It turned out Faraday, who had been murded by then, was the father.

I loved it!!! I thought they did a good job tying the old to the new, introducing the new storyline. Best of all, it felt more like the original "Dallas" and not that schmaltzy, slick thing it became towards the end.

Others I noticed:
The S and F in the Southfork logo was connected orginally. That's a brand for the cattle - it wouldn't have changed either.
John Ross was never blonde as a child as the picture on JR's table showed.

I think it's a kick.
Some of the dialogue is spectacularly bad ("Oil's in your blood, Christopher! When did you turn your back on it), and JR being in an assisted living facility for depression ("He's in and out, Mr. Ewing. That's how it is with clinical depression") was a wuss move, but it's a lot of fun, and Larry Hagman's still got it. I'll keep watching.

I agree 100 percent.I love the original Hoffs show .The digital FX were a total joke on the remake.Wow KITT turn into a pickup truck. Michael Knight {The Hoff} appeared on the first episode for a couple of minutes. If they did cast Hoff and Bonnie {Patricia McPherson} RC3 Peter Parros and William Daniels as the voice of KITT.Then The show would of last.
I'm glad the original l Dallas charactors are back on the show .That 2008 get together was a joke with the actors were just gabbing about their favorite parts of the series and showing clips from the series.

Ken Kercheval (and Cliff Barnes) is still alive and he will be on a few episodes this season, including the next two!
It wasn't perfect but so far I'm into it. It moves very quick so it's a bit jarring when you think of how Dallas used to slowly meander through a 30 episode season. There were a lot of twists and turns in the first two episodes, but that's the way TV is now versus "the old days." I think they have a good foundation and just need to iron out a few kinks/let the younger cast get comfortable with the characters they play.

I've just watched the first two episodes and so far it's ridiculous, drips with money and parts of the script are cheesy. In short, it's Dallas I'm pretty impressed so far! The new characters will take time to grow on me though and no, it wasn't perfect, but it's already suitably ott with the plot. The main thing about the show though is that it looks incredible! The final couple of minutes of episode one, in particular the final image in the football stadium, is absolutely fantastic.

Exactly! Dallas was always like that, I think a lot of people look back with rose colored glasses now, but it was exactly what you describe back then too!
The look/filming is amazing and very modern. About the only jarring thing I found was the interior of Southfork. It's hard to get used to that being the same house. I understand renovations happen, but that old set was so ingrained into my head that it's hard to accept the "modern" SF.

About the only jarring thing I found was the interior of Southfork.
That made me think of this story. It's going to sound like
one of my tall tales but it's the truth.
After hurricane Fredrick (1979) we went to check on our
cabin at Gulf Shores. The hurricane did incredible damage.
It was a two story house, and it completely wiped out the
first story. And amazingly the second story floated down
and rested almost on the original foundation. Even things
like dishes and lamps were still in place. You could have
actually rode out the hurricane in the top floor without
damage. Bottom floor your dead, top floor alive but scared
out of your mind.
There were all kind of things in the yard that were washed
up from who knows where. I still have the Louisville Slugger
that I found. But the thing that ties this in to Dallas is that
we found a lamp in the debris and took it back home with us.
My uncle restored the lamp for us. It was brass and wood
with what I believe were lion heads on the sides. Near the
end of one of the original Dallas episodes they were filming
in J.R.'s bedroom. And we were shocked to see that very
same design lamp on his nightstand.
What are the odds of that happening?

I did watch part of each new episode but to me it'll NEVER be as good as the original show was for about the first 7/8 seasons after VP/Pam left the show lost course to me. I'd also watched Knots Landing but not in the beginning I think I started watching in like the 84 season/85 or so til the end. Didn't Jenna finally have Bobbie's son though cause I recall her being pregnant when he married Pam again right? Why didn't they have his other son on too? Its a real shame that Pam & Bobbie couldn't have there own child--it was wrong it would've been awesome now--hind site on the writers part. I think the show would be better now for it. IMO anyway.

I imagine if the show takes off and has a few seasons, we will see other characters introduced including some of the other offspring (JR and Bobby both have other children). Bobby and Jenna did have a son, Lucas. He was being born right around the time that the Justice Dept seized Ewing Oil and Pam drove into the tanker. I don't think Bobby ever had anything to do with Lucas (at least not through 1991 when the show ended) and he was basically raised by Ray and Jenna. Not sure what their current status is, but it will be interesting to see if any other offspring show up. JR has two other kids in addition to John Ross (James, and the baby Cally had).

Dallas interiors were never shot in the house used for the exterior shots of Southfork. They were all done on an LA soundstage. I've visited the Southfork house and I think they actually used the house interiors this time.

I'm pretty sure Cally & JR were divorced - if not in the series then definitely in the three tv movies that aired later.
Jenna Wade was played by Priscilla Presley, but not originated by her.
Interesting. I just recalled Cliff Barnes had a daughter with Afton, middle name... Rebecca. Hmmm.... ;)
I believe the new series is filmed entirely in Dallas, but the interiors are a set in a studio somewhere in Dallas. Not sure if they have an outdoor set or if everything outside is actually filmed at the ranch but it's safe to say what we've seen so far has been filmed at Southfork (for exteriors).
Cally left JR in the last season and was pregnant when she left (I think!). JR and Cally's wedding is actually one of my favorite episodes of Dallas ever, despite being in one of the not so well liked "later seasons." The storm forcing everyone (including Sue Ellen and her future husband Don, as well as Cliff Barnes) to bunk at Southfork along with the bridge and groom was hilarious.
Priscilla Presley did indeed play Jenna Wade for years, but I want to say there were others who played the role before her briefly. Morgan Fairchild and possibly someone else.

Did Pamela officialy die in the old show? I read (we never saw the latest seasons in Peru) about she got severely injured in an accident and got burned, or something like that, and said goodbye to everybody but I guess they never showed she actually died, did they?
About the current show, I wasn't that impressed buy enjoyed anyway. It's the same old story of fights within a family so there's nothing new actually. But it was ok.

It would be great to see VP return. Some fans recently ran into her in LA and asked her about the new show. She was very open to it saying she hoped they called. In the past she was disdainful of Dallas, maybe she's mellowed and learned to appreciate what the role gave her. I think she wasn't in the 'Larry' club like some of the others.
I'll admit it, I did watch it. Well, I watched a DVR recording of it on Friday night. I used to watch Dallas & Falcon Crest every Friday night faithfully. I thought she was badly burned when she hit the tanker & she went away to 'heal' ? I did stop watching it after the season she wasn't on it but since Bobby was alive (since the dream season didn't happen) that also mean't that Katherine Wentworth (who tried to kill Bobby) was still alive too & I recall when Pam wanted to go away to heal someone was there in her room & it was Katherine. I do recall hearing that someone did come back as Pam but it was a different actress so a different face. Don't know whom that was. I didn't watch it anymore than. VP will always be Pam to me no one else. Also besides Morgan Fairchild that played Jenna Wade the first time there was one other actress that played Jenna before Priscilla but I don't recall her name either.

Y'know, I was just thinking about that. I don't think Joan Collins' health would allow, alas. I don't know about Linda Evans, but does anyone actually care about Krystal?
With the exception of First Fallon and First Stephen, the younger set was something of a disaster. When they changed Stephen's sexuality for the third time and Fallon returned inexplicably British, it all sort of went to hell.
I don't think we'll ever get a Dynasty reunion, but I guess if they could rope in Michael Nader, Heather Locklear, and Pamela Sue Martin I'd be in.

I have no reason to believe she's at death's door; she's just looked frail to me in the last few years. Wasn't there something about her passing out at the Oscars? She seems to be holding up well for her age, but the woman is 79, and doesn't look to me like she'd be up for shooting an hour-long weekly series.

I think the new show runners have done a great job of continuing the Ewing family story and although the season finale was really not much of a cliffhanger (aside from it being, quite literally, a "cliff" "hanger" with Cliff Barnes being in an airplane hanger...it set up the next season quite well. Lots of good drama with great twists and turns.

still watching & loving it~ the finale was fantastic~ HAHAHAHAHA at rebecca being cliff's daughter~
I am still watching & will keep on watching as long as it holds my interest. My husband has been watching it, too, & he's not usually into soap operas. Very surprised during the season finale. I never saw that coming.

Yes I love Dynasty too.I think they had one of those stupid get together reunion special years ago like Dallas did.Yes Alexis was a beech like J.R. was a pricker bush.
Also I enjoy Knots Landing,Falcon Crest and Flamingo Road. That was great 1980's TV.
i loved this show so much~ i have the first 2 seasons on dvd~ they need to release the rest:nod:~

I did see part of the finale on Wednesday night but I had missed some episodes in between. Its funny at the end I had a 'feeling' the person getting off that plane was gonna be Cliff Barnes---didn't release that Rebecca was his daughter but is this his daughter with Afton or someone else?? I really wish VP would show up next season. That would be awesome. I mean its that show that made it possible for her success as a business woman in real life too.
JR will never change. But I guess most people don't want him to really. Hopefully, I'll try to follow it more next season it starts in January. I hope theres more twists & turns ahead & more surprise cast returns that would be cool. They have to mix the old with the 'new' or us original watchers won't be interested. Its hard to get into the 'kids' when I haven't really cared about them as much as when they were little. We'll see really but the storylines have to be good as well as the writing if not it goes down hill from there. IMO anyway.:D

Just finished the second season of the "new" Dallas.
It was awesome!
New season starts this month, but I'll have to wait
until this time next year to see it streaming.
I'd like to say more, but I don't want to spoil anything
for those that might watch it.
Best soap opera on TV. Take that lovers of Downton Abbey.

I recently finished watching the First Season of this new Dallas. I had avoided it for so long because I love the original series so much. I just feared with all the pretty new faces that this reboot would be style over substance. Turned out I couldn't be more wrong! I was shocked at how absolutely amazing & true to the original this new series is. Now I need to go out & rent/buy the Second Season so I can get caught up in time for the Third Season premiere in a couple of weeks!

I recently finished watching the First Season of this new Dallas...
I can't begin to tell you just how emotional
the second season was. I didn't think a TV
show could make me feel that way.
I'd love to say more but I don't want to ruin
it for you or anyone else.

yeah i totally agree the second season of Dallas was really good and so much better than the first. that funeral scene with Linda Gray was heart-wrenching to watch! that was some real emotion right there.
cant wait for to come back this February!!

I'd like the new Dallas more if it used some of the older, though never developed characters (i.e. JR and Callie's son, and Lucas Kreb -who's actually's Bobby's son). I'd also love it if John Ross tried to completely screw Christopher over, but Sue Ellen blocks him after remembering that Christopher is her biological nephew. Little things like THAT would make the show awesome.

I guess that's not a spoiler since most know
what happened in real life.
At the risk of ridicule, that scene and the others
before and after concerning that character made
my heart hurt. I had to watch it by myself.
SteveMacD,
I don't remember Lucas Kreb.

Yeah, can't wait for the new season to start. Will be interesting to see what happens since J R's death (Larry Hagman will be missed). I was sad that they 'killed' off Pam though. Victoria Principal and Patrick Duffy were such a great couple back in the day. They were my favorites on the original show. But I guess Victoria isn't interested in doing any more acting these days. At least that's what I'd heard in an interview. She is a very busy business woman herself. Though I still wished she'd come back and they hadn't killed her at all. It'll be interesting to see how this season comes about.

He sure will be missed. I suppose they were already in reruns,
but I remember coming home from school and watching I Dream
Of Jeannie. And then came Dallas in the late 70's. So I kind of
grew up watching Larry Hagman.
J.R., Roger Thorpe and Darth Vader those are my favorite villains.
What does that say about me?
And Pam, never say never. This is Dallas after all.

Season 3 starts superbly. I think it's the best show on TV. (The best shows off tv are Blue, Borgia, and Web Therapy.)
Josh Henderson and Julie Gonzalo are the hottest things to hit tv since Ryan O'Neal and Barbara Parkins (Peyton Place).

I don't remember getting an invite to the premiere from you?
Split half of the season?
How many episodes this year?
Does a split season mean I'll be able to stream them quicker?
So many questions...
No Spoilers please - anyone.

I believe they said 15 episodes. I don't know about the streaming. It's prob the same.
Sorry about the invite! :) I just found out about it the day before - it must be a new thing the art school here in ATL is doing. Very Paley Center-ish. I loved it.
Keep watching and watch live if you can. They need ratings.

Okay, you're forgiven about the invitation - this time.
I hope it's at least 15 episodes. When you stream them it doesn't
take long to watch the whole season. I should make myself watch
one episode every two weeks so it will last. But I can't. I'm hooked.
I cut the cord as they say, so I can't watch it live. If it's axed, as
I don't know the ratings, I hope Netflix will pick it up like they've
done with other shows.
Yes, I'm still watching. I have to record it though. At the time it's on, I'm switching back & forth between The Voice & DWTS. But I watch it on Friday, the original night that it used to come on years ago. I love it. Very good writing & acting. My husband still watches it with me. We both like naughty Emma; she's like Lucy was. :D

I think the ratings will be much higher in the summer. Everyone is saying Monday nights were a bad choice for TNT to air Dallas.

Thankfully it's not on during football season.
It would seem that as good of a show it is, that
it would be great for network TV.
The only shows I watch on network TV are the
national and local news. And then Survivor.
PBS the rest of the time. Most of that being
music programs and documentaries.

OK so whom watched the rest of the Dallas season and what did you think of the 2nd finale this week. Do you think Christopher is dead or they just made it look like he died? I can't image they'd kill him off. Plus I do hope we find out and that TNT does renew it for another season. It really is a well written show. I wonder whom JR had another kid with now. A daughter any thoughts on this too? I mean we know he got around but I just can't think of anyone else right now. Doesn't mean that can re-write history since they do tend to do that. They could always bring Bobby's son to with Jenna Wade too? Who knows, had to bump up this thready since know one's talked about it this time. Please do tell me your thoughts OK thanks!!:D

I hope they killed him off; i think it was the perfect extension of the evil Elena put in motion. But they certainly need to cast a new stud to balance things out.

In all honesty, I think it is easily the best show on TV. It's brilliantly acted and ingeniously and morally written and much better directed than most TV--I love the triple jump cuts! I'm disappointed it doesn't have the following it deserves. For me, Josh Henderson's John Ross and Julie Gonzalo's Pamela are the hottest heterosexual TV couple since Rodney and Betty on Peyton Place--and also he's the best actor on TV. And Judith Light is brilliant as the villainous--I can't believe people don't tune it just for her. Plus the plot twists! I literally was standing up in my bed watching the mid-season finale. <3 Pamela. And Emma is now even getting interesting.
All of this means to say; I think we might not see a Season 4. :(

All of this means to say; I think we might not see a Season 4. :(Well you can go to Dallas Fanzine .com and they have interviews with the producer and yes Christopher was killed off. I think Jesse Metcalf wanted to pursue other things so didn't want to comeback for another season. I'm sad cause I really liked him. Plus he was a tie to Pam (the original other than Bobby or Cliff from the original Dallas show) so I don't think VP would ever come back. But yes they do need another 'good' guy. I do hear what your saying about Josh Henderson, he is a really good actor. I do hope they bring it back again. Go to that web site its really good has alot of info about the original show as well as the current show. You'll love it. Yeah, Judith Light is great I recall her days on One Life To Live as hooker Karen Wolek she was so awesome , she can do anything I believe. I think there nuts if they don't bring the show back for a 4th season. I hope Elena is pregnant with John Ross kid and not Nickolas/Jaquin whatever his name is. I don't like him at all. Ugh. I guess time will tell but I sure hope its back. :D:shrug:
Well, I must say that I was surprised that it was the season finale already. I mean, didn't it just start up again in August? It's hard to keep track on when they start back up, Under the Dome, Hot in Cleveland, Devious Maids, I have no idea when they are all coming back. Oh, Hot in Cleveland comes back in November, I think. I really liked Jesse Metcalf in Desperate Housewives. That is a shame that they killed him off. He wanted to do other things? Gee, he has plenty of time for that even when he's in the show; it doesn't go on for that long! The first part of the finale was a nail-biter, I thought. The second part, not so much. But for some reason, I can't really care about Elena, I guess because she was so bent on Ewing revenge. That is interesting about John Ross having a sister. They need another good Ewing since Christopher is gone. Anyway, I still like watching. My husband still watches it. And yes, I loved Judith Light on OLTL. That is when I knew she was a good actress. And she did a lot of crying on that show!
