If it surfaces at all at this point, it'd have to be as a promotion tool: Stevie would have to base an official summer tour around it or something to that effect. I'm not so sure about the documentary coming to life given the fact most of Stevie's released works have gone into Out Of Print status. :sorry:

If they are just NOW looking for a distributor.. This is going to be months and months away from release! Not sure why they don't just make a few thousand copies and sell it on-line...
Dave could be trying to do something like he's just done for his own documentary which is on the making of The Blackbird Diaries and The Ringmaster General (his new album), he's partnered with a wine maker, has come up with a Ringmaster General bottle of wine with him on the label and is selling his 90 minute documentary with the bottle of wine for something like $125 bucks! It's an interesting idea and likely done to recoup some of his costs for production... So maybe he's looking into some sort of partnership for Stevie's doc.

I'm absolutely stumped by this documentary issue....IMO it seems that two things must have occurred...Stevie and Dave (maybe WB too) had hoped the cd, IYD was going to be much more of a commercial success...since it was not as successful, no one is interested in spending any more money on promoting a documentary....
Then I thought that repackaging IYD with a few new songs and the documentary and Stevie heading back out on summer tour and do the morning and late night talk shows - eventually maybe she would sell an additional 25,000 to 50,000 units...but does that make it worth it for all the parties concerned?
I'm stumped:confused:

Before the editing was finished they should of put out a search for a distributor then.Forget WB.We seen the results what they did on the release almost a year ago.Nevermind they never help promote her cd.

I think WB did plenty in the promo dept given the budget they had to work with and her Management did a good job getting her in the press, magazines, radio interviews and placed on some really popular shows with massive audiences... Plus the Rod tour laid the ground work getting the early word out that something was coming - and a reason for her to be in the press... Just different times, different audience.
This doc has nothing to do with Stevie's label, it's completely independent, much like Destiny Rules had nothing to do with WB for Fleetwood Mac's SYW album.
I don't mind the wait as long as it's just that... As long as it's coming eventually, I'm happy. If the rug gets pulled out from under this, then I'll be slightly pissed off LOL.

I agree. But PBS got to air the show plus do a call-in to get funds to run their programs plus charge $250 for a donations.I think its a great Idea .But I think they can't get it done in 3 months time.I agree with MacMan on if the rug gets pulled out on this dvd production.I'll be livid plus all of us fans will be let down on this whole thing.

I'm trying to remain optimistic and continue hope that this documentary will see the light of day. The one reason that clouds my, "Happy Bubble," if you will, is that the promoters (WB & whom ever else) did not strike when the iron was hot!
The question is, Is it still hot one year later? And, I wonder what is exactly in this documentary aside from clips of making IYD?

Didn't dave just recently sign a deal for his production company with distributing documentaries of artists into movie houses and dvd releases. I am almost certain we will see this thing SOMEWHERE this summer.

This is probably exactly what has occurred. They handed the finished doc over to WBR back in February, I'm betting that Warners passed on releasing & promoting it because of diminishing returns due to IYD not being more of a commercial success. Leaving Dave, Weapons of Mass Entertainment & Stevie looking for distributors or perhaps even a cable outlet that is interested in picking it up to air like the Elton John/Leon Russell documentary "The Union" which aired on HBO last winter. However, the latter was filmed & chronicled by the great Cameron Crowe who has become quite the music documentary king in recent years, while the former was directed & filmed by Dave Stewart & WOME:cool:
One thing for sure is the Doc is already beyond anti-climatic at this point , so if it does not come out in some form around the time Stevie is on tour this summer, it will be yet another debacle of missed opportunity & bad timing. However, I'm pretty sure Dave, WOME & Stevie management are scrambling & doing everything they can to get this out with some distributer to recoup some of the costs of filming and editing.

I know this may not be a popular opinion but maybe the documentary isn't very good...I have not been a big fan of the secret love and moonlight videos. Maybe Daves talents at producing music doesn't transfer to making videos and documentaries. Maybe everything we love about the making of Say You Will wasn't captured in the IYD documentary footage The struggles, decision making, and the conflicts that we saw between Lindsey and Stevie may have been replaced with Daves weird imagery and quirky editing....just a thought:(

I was thinking If WB just take the DVD and package it with a copy of her IYD cd for about $25.00 to $30.00.Dave will get his cut WB will get their cut.The IYD cd will get more copies sold in the meantime.
Now if WB did received a advance copy months ago to screen the docu and said forget it.And told him. it wont sell. Thats a different story.Maybe thats the problem Dave is putting up with now.
In the meantime I hope they know probably the true Stevie fans like us will buy the DVD.
A regular music fan wont bother with the DVD.

Exactly! Most people won't buy Stevie's DVD. It is us diehards that will. Why do they and everyone else act like it has to be some massive money maker to be released? Even if it was just a digital release on iTunes, they've already spent enough time and money on it so they might as well make SOME profit off of it.

I'm not very optimistic about the documentary either. On one hand, we always have to wait for everything Stevie does...nothing is ever finished on time, there's always some reason everything is delayed, so on and etc, so we could very well end up with the documentary.
On the other hand, there is every possibility that:
~ it hasn't turned out as good as they thought it would & they're stalling so that they can figure out how to save the project.
~ WB isn't interested in promoting/distributing it because they didn't think there would be a big enough market for it, so it's just sitting there.
~ they are looking for a distributor other than WB and it's taking longer than expected.
~ Stevie, in her quest for perfection, has vetoed the inclusion of anything that doesn't portray the experience the way she wants us to see it and/or has stamped every last bit of entertainment out of it (much the same way she did in the DR doc when she wouldn't agree to include her argument with Lindsey) because she has to micromanage everything down the slightest detail...and it turned out kind of boring. --> We all know that she does this...you can see this drive for perfection in the way she runs her shows too. Back in the day, during Bella Donna & the Wild Heart, she was much more spontaneous and free on stage and Lori and Sharon were behind her just doing their own thing. Then everything changed and everyone had marks to hit and matching outfits and it was all choreographed down to the last second, etc...and it lost something. It's blatantly obvious in the Soundstage DVD that everything was staged and there was nothing spontaneous about it. Maybe this hyperactive micromanagement has been the fate of this documentary as well. Maybe when it was finished and edited together, the result was a bit of an anticlimax.
Now, hopefully no one will be offended by that last bit. I'm not saying she doesn't put on a good show and that she doesn't make a good product because she absolutely does. I'm not saying that the behind the scenes stuff for this documentary won't be excellent if we ever get to see it. Her hardcore fans, including myself, love all that stuff. I'm just trying to point out that Stevie wants everything to be the best it can be and she doesn't understand that we want to have the whole experience - the good, the bad, the boring, the exciting, the unexpected, the mistakes, the struggles - not just the best bits of something.

It bears repeating that Fleetwood Mac's documentary was released over a year after 'Say You Will,' and Lindsey's documentary was released nearly two years after 'Under The Skin.'
And for a few non-Mac-related examples, Madonna's two documentaries ('Truth or Dare' and 'I'm Going To Tell You A Secret') were each released a year after they were filmed, and Tom Petty's 'Runnin' Down A Dream' documentary was also released a year after the interview portions and 30th anniversary concert footage was filmed.
The wait for Stevie's documentary is not unprecedented and not yet cause for alarm. :)

It could. What I am still trying to wrap my brain around tho is her upcoming tour. Why go out and tour for IYD a YEAR after it has been released? It isn't like it is still burning up the charts nor has she been touring for it all this time. If they don't release the doc to coincide with this tour then everyone in Stevie's camp is bat**** crazy.

These are the same people who paid for all that filming of the Rumours tour and it never saw the light of day. Reading Ken Caillat's book recently reminded me of how much effort WB put into it, recording all the audio in highest quality to sync it up with the footage and all the behind-the-scenes stuff etc......and it's just dusty in a vault somewhere.

Dave said at the end of May that they were still setting up distribution (whatever that means) and that the project hadn't been shelved... It is an independent release separate from her record label - similar to what Fleetwood Mac did with Destiny Rules... So it's probably just a matter of how and when they want to release it.

But, she assured me that the project is NOT being shelved. In fact, when I asked her about that possibility her reply was, "Oh, no no no." She said these things just take time sometimes. She was really cool too, BTW.

Aside from promoting the new album, Stevie says her other impetus for touring this summer is to give herself material for a future project. “At my age, you start to really go, ‘I’m going for the experience,’” she explains. “As my mom always used to say, ‘We’re just making memories.’”
Nicks says that she writes her tour experiences “in my journal every night,” adding, “These are memories that I’m making right now…that someday will go into a big art thing: book, poems, you know, the whole thing.” No word on when that project will materialize, but Stevie has completed a documentary about the making of In My Dreams which we should see by the end of the year.

Hate to be a downer but for me it's very much an "I'll believe it when I see it" kind of thing by now. For Heaven's sake, Hollywood filmmakers don't take as long to get something to the screen as this. Filmed in 2010? Come on... what were they doing with it in 2011?! Stevie and Dave have messed us all around far too much with this with endless teasing. Either get the thing out for us to see or keep quiet. It all seems highly unprofessional. I will be excited to see it if/when it arrives but until then I'm being unnaturally skeptical.

I don't think Stevie has much to do with this. I think Dave Stewart might have too many pies in the oven. and I seem to remember some article about his having a proposed deal to do documentaries for theater showings? The Doc should have come out with the CD. What an amazing double package that would have been?? But you know we will get it whenever it comes out.. I just hate that they cut and past. I would be up for 100 uncut hours to while away the evenings..

I think she would have done better NOT going with the BIG record label too.. Too bad she did not do it on Modern Records... or better yet Welch Witch Recorsd?? "_)
She seems to be in a better place now so maybe more on the money decisions.. >>
d,
Modern Records is now pretty much defunct. Oddly one of Michael Jackson's brothers bought the label & it's assets during the mid 90's around the time Stevie bought out the rest of her Modern contract, along with the agreeing to release a Box Set (Enchanted).
Stevie soon after signed on to a 4 or 5 record contract with Reprise/WBR, making IYD her 4th contractual recording (after TISL, Crystal Visions and Live In Chicago: The Soundstage Sessions.)
In fact, Stevie may still owe them another release. Perhaps someone here remembers exactly how many records she signed a contract for in 06'. Meanwhile it doesn't sound like Reprise/WBR is releasing or distributing the IYD documentary, which most likely will be an independent release with Mass Weapons of Entertainment along with a yet to be named distribution deal. If she owes Reprise/WBR another release, I guess there is always the chance that the label could release her from any further obligations, or Stevie once again could buy out the rest of her contract. But honestly, I don't believe Stevie would ever go the the full independent route...but then again stranger things have happened!
Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac is a free agent, having only signed a 1 record deal with Warners for SYW. Not sure if that counts towards Stevie's tally or not. But it definitely gives them less incentive to record another record and shop it around again.

Any chance that also equates to Stevie fulfilling her obligations as well?
I would much like to see her with a label that would actually PUSH her music??
What's happened with IYD's is pretty lame!!

I've said before, but I think it bears repeating -- the wait we're experiencing really isn't out of the ordinary. Lindsey was already working on another album ('Gift of Screws') before they released the documentary for the album prior ('Under The Skin'). Fleetwood Mac's 'Destiny Rules' doc was released 17 months after 'Say You Will.'
And those are just Mac-related examples.

Your firsts sentence is the main point at the main problem. Stevie should and could have a lot more to do with her own product,
Although I get what you're saying about Stevie needing to be more involved in her own products, the fact that she's hands-off should have helped get this out quicker. If they filmed right up to the release date, or to the Wiltern show, she could have turned in, and gone on her way promoting the CD and then going on tour. Professionals could have taken over the editing, packaging, etc. and had that sucker out before the end of last summer. Stevie was still on tour, interest in IYD was at its peak, and sales would have been good. I'm still not sure why that didn't happen.
On the other hand, if Stevie wanted to be involved in the day-to-day details of post-production, that would make the delay more understandable. With her U.S. tour, Australian tour, and the death of her mother, it would only have been in the last couple months that she would have time to work on it.

I know Stevie wasn't happy with her record deals with Warner becasue Trouble In Shangrila...pre 9/11...it could have been pushed...It wasn't one of my favorites. I didn't like mixing, in particular...most vocal tracks synthed out Sharon and Lori...into an electronic white sound...she and the girls have that whole harmony thing sicne Bella Donna, just check the few clips of them in the studio during the recording of Blue Lamp and stuff...I didn't like that part so much and that is my first favorite part. The 2nd problem I had was with overproduction. Away went her really beautiful songs...hey, I dig the Planets Of The Universe, and the demo, I liked the words but, It didn't grab me like others. This whole album lacked catchy litte riffs, melodies...even her famous ..to song structure was gone...For example, Surprisingly, I really like, You May Be The One, from In Your Dreams. I have grown to love almost every song sans Annabell Lee. I love Poe, I just didn't dig, again, a catchy vibe. You May Be The One, grew on me...but, I used to dream that...you were an angel...you were an angel...etc....That is what I love.
Sorry, got off track. She is independant from WB deal with Fleetwood Mac unless there were contractual clauses. WB gave the biggest buget to record...but, come promo and interviews, and all the magic stuff...just like with with Stevie's, Trouble In...ok, we spent for the recording...go sell it. It didn't work...
I really wish she would give WB whatever she owes...if anything.
Interscope run by Iovine, and her whole new beginning with Jimmy, I think he could sell her to Techo fans...even if it was a Country Album. He still references to her regarding almost everything...they totally made each other in the biz. I'm not talking about him taking over producing or what have you...I think he would be a benefit for, at least, some creative suggesting...and with his belief and excitement in her...even making that chick sing Rhiannon, Tusk Concert Stevie Style...wind and all...phraseology...etc...He would sell Stevie...not a bunch of old lazy CEO rts that know zero talent or music if Janis Joplin, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Elivs were spoonfeeding them like Kindergarteners. Stevie's fame, fans and hype from Dave had IYD debuting at numer 6 or whatever...but, alas...the boys in the office ar on an extended business trip to a tropical paradise...from where they were born.
on a cocunut tree...
It will surface.
Shame on the Corporate world...it goes far beyond us being overworked, underpaid and hungry and homelesss...at least we could have some good music like hard times always had...
Sorry, I know some of you guys know I freelance sometimes, mostly political...and I hate it. That part came about by mistake...and here I don't often spell check...or structure.
Just my insanity at its best...

STEVIE NICKS PREPPING DOCUMENTARY FROM LATEST SESSIONS
7/2/2012
Stevie Nicks is prepping a rock documentary chronicling the making of her recent In Your Dreams solo album, which was produced by the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. We caught up with Nicks who shed some light on what a massive undertaking it's been to get the film ready for release.
She told us that the story is literally revealed in the album's sessions: "We filmed it. And we filmed it from February to December. And it took them all year to actually edit it from 100 hours to three hours and in the last four months we've edited it down to an hour-and-a-half. Um, it's really a magical little film, because it really shows you -- it's like and old fashioned rock n' roll film about how, y'know, you go. . . My idea and Dave's idea was Led Zeppelin recording at the Grange. So we said. 'We have. . . I have a big old house, so let's record the record there' -- and that's what we did."
In Your Dreams entered the Billboard 200 chart at Number Six and marked Nicks' first Top Ten album in a decade. There's been no release date announced for the new documentary.

I love that she is actually talking about it now, but I still cannot believe there is no release date. I mean, they should have some idea of when it will come out. They could at least pick a season! Hopefully October so it can come with a bunch of spooky witchy Stevie extras.

I completely agree with what I've out in bold here, so much so that I think we're at crossed purposes. When I said more involved this is exactly what I meant. Have the motivation to get the thing out there, be involved in such a way as to deliver a product to your fans in as timeous a way as possible, especially since it would have been perfect cross-promotion for the album.

I think she did not really need the first Rod outing last year.It was great to pay some bills. But it got in the way of her to get ready to get IYD CD released.Nevermind she got sick from that tour that ruined her release and a couple opening shows and the Today show appearance.

I would hope someone would have the marketing sense to offer not just the hour and a half version but a "deluxe" version of the whole 3 hours. Metallica released that rather loooong documentary a number of years ago about all their issues recording an entire album and then going out on the road (while various members went sober and tried to stay sober).... I'm not even a Metallica fan and I was riveted watching the whole thing.
Why they have not put people to work editing all the video etc from the Bella Donna recording sessions, which could be somehow packaged with the HBO concert video and all that is beyond me. Where is all the Rosebud footage?!? This band keeps recycling the same old crap. We at least got a [I]little[I] bit of previously unseen material in her Crystal Visions dvd package....but there's gotta be more.

I got so off track with the last post...
I never NOT believed that this would come out..
I wonder if it will again, have more than a Doc Dvd. I wonder if she is going to put out "her Mothers Record, so to speak.
Just in time for a grammy nod...she will probably have at least 1 song but, I suspect more songs seperate from the dvd.
Editing it down to an hour and a half?
+ouch+
I am conjuring up platform specs...you know? I think the dvd might just be a package deal...or a buy seperately deal. Maybe, and I would die loving this...a whole in your dreams concert....or at least the showcase songs iyd part of the setlist. Delux editions, fan additions...etc...
My life has been so...I cannot find a word for nothappybutnotlikereallybadjustfrustratedandafewtragedies.
I missed her 1st time around because Tom and I moved into my Moms as she was sick...its not bad, its kind of nice, we have a totally seperate flat asit had been converted to having 2 places...now. blabbering again, the house is big beautiful...and we are still here...due to one of my jobs, of 14 yrs fired me due to a disability, (kidney, bone) so, Toms business and whatever stories I offer or are requested...is our income. Hey, I have had too much and then too little...but, Im not Ramen Noodles stage or anything...all this to say, Tom and I haven't. Een to the 1st round of iyd Boston...and it looks the same for this month. I think she playing my birthday...22nd. Hell, my head...she's probably finished the tour and is doing Rod Stewart/Stevie Nicks...it like, where are the Vegas Feathered Show Girls Glittering their stage...?;) :xoxo:

You and some others read my mind as I am posting truly epic posts that should warrent A Ledgammy Award for brilliant insight, haha...the deluxe version idea etc...Also, sober is a very challenging and has a person going through life and it can be frustrating, nere racking, so so sad...for anyone that knows what I mean regarding that first 90 days...I never counted, I guess that is a Parralell to my life and Stevies, I don't believe in time...I just TRY to see at least a miracle a day...rather witnessing and pondering often oveflooked things...like, looking at your loved ones gold specks in his almost aquatic eyes...and thinking, what a work of art, a masterpiece. I am sober for almost, well more than 10yrs. I know, its not easy but it is worth the inital horror, like you are in a new place, a stranger to everyone, everything is a challenge, almost like being one of the chicks from CHARMED but being stripped of all your powers and your power of three...and your secret binky.I am sorry for all this BS but, I swear to God, the road is dark and scary in parts, and it can be dangerous but, if you hold my hand...and no matter what, never let go...on the other side is all beautiful smiling people, hugs from friends and family that adore you...there is bliss. And even though we have to live as a mortal among some that you want to feed them the deadliest poison, you just turn your eyes ever so slightly, and there is a white swan, so. Magically. Floating on the river and you are forced to see the miracle and its breath taking, they are not native to this area, actually this is a true story personal to me...I was sooo sad...and you want some sign or relief...and the beauty in life unfolds. If you let it, believe in it...and seek it. I don't even know if this post will come out correctly with the bold and stuff that is impossible on a phone but, hey...I just have to say it...and maybe it will help you or someone that can see past the crazy stream of consciousness...but I believe the whole thing is urgent enough to take the chance and believe its going to do what I wanted. Thank you. Jim I would hope someone would have the marketing sense to offer not just the hour and a half version but a "deluxe" version of the whole 3 hours. The Stevie Nicks Documentary Of My Dreams
Ami AngelowiczSeptember 18, 2012
“In Your Dreams,” the Stevie Nicks documentary of my dreams, will be premiering at the Mill Valley Film Festival on October 12. The cameras followed the Gold Dust Woman during the making of her most recent solo record, also called In Your Dreams. Obviously, I would watch Stevie Nicks talk about a piece of poop for two hours, but this really doc really does look amazing.
“With cameras in tow, documentarian [Dave] Stewart and diva Nicks set up shop in her home studio and reveal their collaborative creative process, as snippets of words and music undergo inspired tinkering and emerge as fully fledged gems. Throughout, Nicks shares intimate memories of childhood and her high-flying days with Fleetwood Mac,” says the premiere description.
P.S. That’s Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, by the way. If these clips are any indication of the rest of the film, it’s part art film/ part music documentary/ part magicalness of my favorite gypsy about her creative process. All she has to do is mention Edgar Allen Poe and Jane Eyre and I’m basically salivating. (Also the check out the second clip above, where Stevie talks about going on tour after getting sober.)

In Your Dreams - Stevie Nicks' Documentary Scheduled to Premiere at Hamptons International Film Festival October 7th & Mill Valley Film Festival on October 12th
Music Collaborator, Documentarian and Former Eurythmics Mastermind Dave Stewart Reveals Intimate Portrait of Grammy Winning Legend
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 26, 2012) - Rock legend Stevie Nicks in collaboration with musical wizard Dave Stewart have co-produced and co-directed "In Your Dreams - Stevie Nicks," a documentary portrait of the illusive Nicks as they embark on a musical journey to write and record the critically acclaimed album "In Your Dreams." The film will premiere at the 35th International Hamptons Film Festival on Sunday, October 7th and at the 20th annual Mill Valley Film Festival on Friday, October 12th which has already sold out.
Nicks, a multi Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, lead singer and emotional catalyst and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac and one of the most recognizable female rock stars and revered songwriters in the world, allowed cameras into her home as she holed up in a magical old mansion high atop the hills of Los Angeles with Stewart and a wild cast of characters. The vibrant documentary tracks the year (2010) which Nicks calls "the best year of my life." The result is a rare study of a fascinating artist on par with D. A. Pennebaker's classic Dylan documentary "Don't Look Back" or Madonna's notorious "Truth or Dare."
Stewart and Nicks, co-directors of the film, also co-wrote many of the songs on "In Your Dreams." The inner life of the legendary Nicks has by her design long been kept at a distance from the public. We learn in "Dreams" that her world features, costume parties, joyous dinner feasts, tap dancing, fantasy creations and revealing songwriting and recording sessions all of which are captured on film. Also cameos by Edgar Allan Poe, Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon, a massive white stallion in the backyard, owls and naturally a few vampires who appear in several "home movie" style music videos.
Along with tracking the Nicks/Stewart creative partnership, "In Your Dreams" includes plenty of other cinematic payoffs including rare never before seen personal scrapbook stills from Nicks' childhood and family life, and a wealth of candid backstage and performance shots taken over the last 35 years.
Nicks, who has sold millions of records as a solo artist, writer of such iconic songs as "Landslide," "Gold Dust Woman" and "Edge of 17," is regularly cited by stars as diverse as Taylor Swift, Kid Rock, Courtney Love, Sheryl Crow, The Dixie Chicks and John Mayer as an iconic favorite and heroine and is a continuous inspiration to the world's top fashion designers.
"I think you see in this film that Stevie just tells it like it is. She is who she is, and she doesn't change," commented Stewart.
"In Your Dreams - Stevie Nicks" Hamptons Film Festival - Sunday, October 7th at 3pm Sag Harbor Cinema
"In Your Dreams - Stevie Nicks" Mill Valley Film Festival - Friday, October 12th at 6:30pm at Smith Raphael Film Center

If MTV or VH1 were like they were in the 1980's They would of showcased about a half hour to an hour of Stevie's IYD documentary.
Now they play crap reality programming.
PBS could pick it up and run it.They are great with Stevie/Lindsey and FM videos.
I remember my local PBS station run the HBO show a couple of times awhile back and reruned the Soundstage shows quite a bit too.

Agreed... the roster for the Austin Film Festival next month has been released, and no In Your Dreams Doc. :distress: I am kinda surprised since Austin is the 'Live Music Capital of the World,' and big stars & their projects show up every year (including some pretty big debuts). I'm anxious to see what happens after these two In Your Dreams screeenings. Are these two being used as a bellwether on whether to continue screening the documentary, or to release it to DVD, etc?
