In the Mirage concert video, they finish the show with Songbird, and Christine singing .. Like never before... Thank you Los Angeles WE LOVE YOU!!! ...like never before

In the Tango concert video, they finish the show with Songbird, and Christine singing .. Like never before... Thank you San Francisco God Bless You!!! ...like never before

In The Dance DVD , they finish the show with Songbird, and Christine singing .. Like never before... Thank you and God bless everybody goodnight! ...like never before. She didn't thank the city cause I guess she knew this would be a DVD and a special reunion show so she replace the city with "everybody". However she did thank the city that year during the Reunion tour. I remember on thanksgiving day I was in NYC, and at MSG she said Like never before... Oh New York New York Thank you! ...like never before (actually can't remember if she said Thank you or God bless you but I do remember she mentioned twice: New York New York, and her voice kind of broke).

So did she start to thank the city during the final song, Songbird, since the first time they chose to finish with this song? And well, there's a 2nd question, when did they decided to use Songbird as the final song? Since the Rumours tour?

Maybe the ledgies who are fans and went to shows since the 70s know the answer.

PS: I remember Songbird was not the final song in 1997. Actually they came back to sing Farmer's Daughter, but she said Thank you to the city during Songbird anyway.

Oh Villavic, you're so lucky!! *____*
I'm so angry I was born in Italy and only in 1983. If I was born before, maybe in 1950-60 and in the United States, I'm sure I would have followed her and FM everywhere!
Well, she was often the only one (except for Stevie) who always thanked the audience, because she's always so kind and nice with everyone :)
I hope some older fan will help us solving this new mistery :D

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU David for this gift!! :D
She's so sweet, caring (am I wrong or was she saying to the audience "also be careful when you drive to home tonight?") and her husky voice make my heart skip a beat, as always! She makes you feel protected, it's wonderfulhttp://www.interfaithforums.com/images/smilies/wub.gif
I love the way she plays the piano during this performance too!

1997 was my first opportunity to see the Mac. In the 70s and 80s Peru was not a destiny for band tours. I guess the first band who performed in South America was Queen, in the early 80s in Rio de Janeiro, though I may be wrong. Later Rock in Rio 1985 (huge rock festival with Queen, Go Gos, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, etc..) put the continent in the map. Nowadays here in Peru we receive several artists.

So it was also a dream to me to see the Mac live. When they reunited in 1997 and learned they will tour, I decided to see them anyway. Internet was already born and I could get my ticket thru Ticketmaster. Having relatives in NJ makes easier to stay in the NY-NJ area and that made me decide to choose that city. Besides a thanksgiving holiday (and the shopping;) was a plus for that short trip.

Back to the topic, maybe chili D or other ledgie who attended gigs from the 70s knows the answer.

To my knowledge and based on all the bootlegs I have heard, either Stevie or Christine always thanked whatever city they were in sometime or near the end of the show.

You're right. My questions should be When did she start to close the show with Songbird and thank the city within that song?

Probably sometime in the summer of 1977.

Probably sometime in the summer of 1977.

That's right, I just discovered that maybe she started to do it in the "Rumours tour". I'm not sure if it happened from the first concert (February 24, 1977 at the Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY), but in the video of the japanese concert at Budokan, Tokyo (1977-05-12) she did it and from that moment on we know she sang "Songbird" at the end of every concert (since in 1975 they ended with "Hypnotized")

Chris would usually dedicate the song to the city before she played it in 1977 and 1978. She must have started thanking the city during the closing bars in 1980—for example, in Chicago in May, she does so.

You are great, David.
And all of you, of course! Long life to The Ledge! ;)

I see in the BuckVie tour she didn't finish the shows with Songbird but with Game of Pretend (she even mentioned that in a funny way before singing  ) and in in this case she thanks LA. For those who were at a show, did she thank the city where you went to see them?

I think its fairly common for Chris or any act to thank the city during the last song. There are a few times I think artists are afraid to comment on a city because the venue is in another town away from the larger city. I live in Miami but many venues are closer to Ft Lauderdale. Do they say THANK YOU MIAMI, THANK YOU FT LAUDERDALE, THANK YOU HOLLYWOOD. So they usually don't want to sound stupid and don't say a word or generically say Florida. Stevie could go through an entire show in the 80s and not mention the city because she probably forgot where she is at. I saw Chris on her solo tour and she thought she was in Detroit. She apologized but she really felt bad. I think you are reading too much into when and if a city is mentioned. On the 2015 show Chris mispronounced Greensboro, NC and said something like Greenburg. This is why sometimes they stay quiet.
I think a better question is when did Chris stop telling people to drive safe on the way home. She did it through the 70s. I think she did it at the US Festival in 1982 and I think she did it on her solo tour.
If you ever hear Chris's solo concert in Jackson NJ its really funny. She is playing Great Adventure Amusement Park. But Chris kept asking the audience what is the town's name? She keeps insisting she's really smart and knows the town is not Great Adventure. She was so freaking hysterical because this keeps going on through the end of the concert. Finally someone yells out Jackson. And then she dedicates Songbird to Jackson.

Stevie didn't thank the city at the end, that was Chris's thing, but she did very often dedicate Landslide to the city they were in. (for example, if you listen on the FM Live album she dedicates it to London). She started doing this early on, dedicating it "to you" before singing it almost from the start and then modifying it to dedicating it to the city.

True. Its the beauty of a spontaneous live concert. During the 1987 tour before any music started Christine always yelled out "Hello Pittsburgh (or whatever city they were in). Then after Say You Love Me, Stevie would most times say something to the city too. Neither was guaranteed every night but it was typical. Its a nice personal touch when artists acknowledge where they are. They don't always do that.
I remember in 2014 Quebec suffered a horrible terrorist attack and the Mac played the next night. The band took from flack on this board for not acknowledging fresh wounds in the city they were playing.
Going back to Chris's Jackson NJ solo concert, there was a horrible dark ride/fun house fire that killed 8 teenagers a week prior to her show at the park. She mentioned it and dedicated Songbird for healing. Class act!
